2005 is the year for me to get healthy - after 41 years of junk food, I'm giving it up and joined weight watchers to learn how to eat healthy.

Someone had left information regarding Weight Watchers at work in the restroom on our floor and I took that to be a sign - I didn't even know we had that at the office. It wasn't fun getting on the scale the first time, however I did it.

I've been through WW before, however this time the leader asked....so what are you going to do differently? At the time I didn't know - as an analyst, I have to process the information then weigh all options, then make a decision. My decision was to go into it 100% which meant getting rid of the bad food and bringing in the good food. I asked my girlfriend to go grocery shopping with me and help me learn how to read labels. It took us 2 hours to get through Super Target and I never left the grocery side of the store! Wow, I walked out with a much better understanding of a lot of those words on labels. I thanked her by bringing all my 'bad' food down to her house for her kids. Who knew that Smart Start cereal isn't really that good for you if you can't have food with added sugars.

In the past 2 weeks, I've lost 11.8 pounds and learned that I really like cooking on my George Foreman grill - and the cleanup is a breeze. I made turkey chili last Sunday and am working at eating fruits and vegetables all the time. I've always drank a lot of water, I just wish I didn't wake up every 30 minutes to hit the restroom over night :confused3

Now I'm joining W.I.S.H to give and get additional support as we all face this challenge.

I've always enjoyed walking and bought a dvd player for the tv where the treadmill is. I watch 1/2 a movie during my workout and then finish the movie the next night.

I've thought about joining this board for a long time and tonight is the right night to take the plunge. First challenge I'm going to get through?? Disneyland at the end of the month - Blue Bayou Monte Cristo's and the Baked Caramel Apple are favorites of mine and a tradition on every trip to Disneyland. :guilty: I guess I'll have to find a new favorite on this trip.

Good luck to everyone on their journey!

Hi Diane :wave2: It sounds like you are off to a great start! It's amazing how many foods are packaged to LOOK like healthy choices, but when you read the labels... :earseek: And great decision about getting all the "bad" food out of the house! Just remember, there is nothing that you can't have with WW - if you really want something, determine if it is worth the points, and make your decision. As soon as I start thinking I can't have some food, that's exactly what I crave! 11.8 pounds is awesome!!! You are doing great!!! Keep it up! :cheer2:

Thanks Crzy4Pooh! Just got back from Super Target - I've never gone into a Target this often and only buying food! Being someone who hates grocery shopping, I would live on takeout - I'm learning how to cook even.

Welcome Diane! :wave2: I just started doing WW 1/3 and have lost 8.8 lbs. I really am enjoying the program. The more you learn about reading labels the easier healthier eating will be. Before long it will be a way of life and you'll forget what you used to eat. ::yes:: There are so many yummy subsitutes for our favorites that are better for us. Congratulations on your loss so far and I look forward to more of your posts. ::yes:: Be sure to check in on the WW Weigh In Thread here on the WISH board. :)

Welcome to WISH and WW! As for your trip to Disney...remember you have 35 flex points to use! If you want that baked caramel apple, then use your flex points for it. I have found that if I deprive myself it makes me want it more and more. I was craving chips and dip for weeks...I hadn't had them in over 1 year, and I finally gave in to the craving. I ate them, it's out of my system and I have no desire to eat them again. And I still lost weight this week too!

Good luck with your weight loss plan.

Thanks everyone. I'm really enjoying the core plan as it is simple and easy to follow for me. It's only been 18 days, but I see myself getting into a routine. I work for a very large company and our cafe does breakfast and lunch which is good for me. Oatmeal for breakfast - I bought some nutmeg over the weekend to sprinkle on it because I'm not a big fan of cinnamon (unless it's in a baked caramel apple!) and then for lunch I can get pretty much anything depending on what is being offered. Dinner - I'm learning how to cook on the George Foreman grill.

I know it seems easier now since I'm home each night and cooking - the big test will be my CA trip from Feb 25 - Mar 6. 2 weekends at disneyland and then a 5 day seminar in the middle! I'll have the laptop with me and will check into this board often. Both hotels have a fitness center, so I'll definately be bringing the workout togs as well.

thanks everyone for the great welcome - I keep singing a song from Aladdin in my head...."A whole new me..."...ok, so I changed a word :)

have a great week all!
