Ok, I know this has been asked a hundred times...so here goes 101!!! I searched on the boards and only found two posts...

What songs would you put on a CD to listen to BEFORE your cruise, during your cruise and after your cruise? I want to get in the cruisin' mood, and then I want to listen to if after the cruise and remember what a good time we had.

Here's what I found...

Cha-Cha-Slide
by: Mr. C
Album Title: The Original Slide Album featuring Casper.

"Hey.....Hey Baby (OOH-AAH DJ Otiz sings it
-----------------------------------------------

I think I might put a few Jimmy B. songs on there...and the song Summer Breeze (was in some commercial last year...love that song)

-----------------------------------------------------

Any other suggestions? Any other songs that you remember them playing on the cruise? :cool1: :flower:

Funny you should say that... a friend of mine was a cruise ship entertainer- I always told him that should be his closing song for the week.

Is there a CD you can buy with most of this music? I know we have La Vida Mickey 1, which has some of these songs. But, are there any other CD's I can purchase to get into the Cruisin' Groovin' ?......

The thread kshabare linked is great. Thanks! That list was from 2003, have things changed since then?

I don't know how to burn CD's but I would love to just buy them. I have Beauty and the Beat which has Disney Songs in Steel Band form. Pretty nice.

I too have been thinking about putting one of these mixes together. Here's what I have on my list so far - a list of adult and disney tunes:

Sea Cruise (Frankie Ford)

Mexico (either Jimmy Buffet or original version by James Taylor)

Margaritaville (Buffet)

Beyond the Sea (Bobby Darrin)

Kokimo (Beach Boys)

Whale of a Tale (from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea)

Under the Sea (from Little Mermaid)

A Whole New World (from Aladdin)

Five O'Clock Somewhere (Alan Jackson)

Hot, Hot, Hot

Rhythm of the Night (El Debarge)

Vamos (from La Vida Mickey)

Pump Me Up (from Putumayo Caribbean Party)

Here's a link to an amazon CD called "Caribbean Cruise/Music for a Rainy Night" not surprisingly "When You Wish Upon a Star" shows up on that CD! Don't know if the CD is good, but it looks interesting

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004S988/qid%3D1109005191/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-3380899-4590537

Good luck with your mix. Let us know what you finally decide on!

When gathered my cruise song collection I used the songs I had already bought on CD's, searched Amazon in their music section (either by titles of songs or artist name) and iTunes. If I only wanted one song I searched iTunes first, if it was their I downloaded it for $. 99 cheap. If I couldn't find it then I went to Amazon and even the online bookstores of Barnes & Noble and Borders. It took awhile but I have enough party music that if it was played at the sail way the sail away party would be almost 90 minutes long!!!

Get the Party Started-Pink **warning, she does say the bad three word for the behind, DCL blips this out if they play the song. I wish I could.

Bouncing Off the Ceiling - A*Teens

Casper Cha-Cha Slide-Casper/Col'ta

We Like to Party-Venga Boys

Disney Mambo #5-Lou Bega on La Vida Mickey CD

Livin'La Vida Loca-Ricy Martin could also use Mickey version from above CD

Walking on Sunshine-Katrina & the Waves (CD with it on it)

Soak Up the Sun-Sheryl Crow

Electric Slide-Neville Livingston (CD Clasic Party Music)

Shout(Parts 1 & 2)- The Isley Brothers (CD The Ultimate Isley Brothers)

Conga-Island Party Jams (CD Island Party Jams by Drew)

Macarena(Bayside Boys Mix)-Los Del Rio

Hot Hot Hot-Island Party Jams (CD Island Party Jams by Drew)

Jump in the Line-Island Party Jams (CD Island Party Jams by Drew)

Bye Bye Bye-N'Sync (CD All star Jock Jams)

When the Sun Goes Down- Kenny Chesney

Drift Away-Nylons- (CD Best of the Nylons)

Kiss Him Goodbye-The Nylons (Cd Hits of the 60's)

**You know, I always wish I had a sound file of the horn to end the above song to, The song is a live version and when it ends it just needs to have the Magic sound her whistle.

Beyond the Sea-Bobby Darnin (because it is a classic and we are out to Sea :) ) You know, I could use some sunshine.

(If nothing about CD the song came from iTunes)
I also have:
The Margaritaville 2 CD set by Jimmy Buffett
The Train, come on and ride
YMCA
Celebration by Kool & the Gang
Get Ready for this by 2 Unlimited
Gonna Make you Sweat Now by C & C Music Factory
Beauty and the Beat CD found on online book store
Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men
Whoomp! by Tag Team KiDJams

Have fun finding the songs and burning your CD's or storing the songs on the little iPod's. Ahh, I can hear the steel pans now. Kathy :cool1:

I would add Trashin' the Camp, from Tarzan (Phil Collins and N'Sync version). After our cruise, last January, I had this song in my head and couldn't figure out what it was until last month! This song will always make me think of the cruise now. DD1 and DS3 find it very funny and love to dance to it.

After reading this post about music, I decided to make my own. I used most of ths suggestions from the ones I have seen listed on this post, I have not cruised yet but thought that would get me in the cruisin spirit!!
I am going to actually make a copy. I thought come Christmas I am going to make some more cd's and give them my sis-i-law along with other cruise theme items as a gift. My idea is to put the cd, water cameras (disposable), flip flops, suntan lotion, etc. :flower: :cool1:

imho, any cruise cd that does not begin with buffett and end with chesney is not worth its weight in salt. return to margaritaville is a great compendium, add license to chill, and chesney's last three albums and you've got a great start. i'd also add santana's supernatural and shaman in the mix. bob marley and peter tosh will throw some spice into the mix as well. then i have to mix in clapton, stevie ray and bb king for some blues. i also like the new trace adkins, and george strait. also give me toby keith's last three albums.

Don't forget " Upside Down Bouncin' on the ceiling" by the A-teens. Our girls had a blast dancing to this at all the sail away parties. :cool1: It took the great people at this board to help me find the name of the song and the artist(s). Even the staff at Virgin Records at Downtown Disney after our cruise couldn't think of the name or artist. It's a definite must. We got it 2 weeks after we got home, and have played it ever since. Although I admit it does make us sad when it's done, because then we miss the DCL even more.

Just yesterday I was thinking of this, and the song was stuck in my head all day.

Picture this: Upper deck, Cozumel sail away party. About ten new friends. two EMPTY bottles of Bailey's Irish Cream on the table.

And the music comes on.

You know, they know it. Up to dance:

AY, Macarena.

Ayup.

Now it's back in my head.

Get it out!

Since our first cruise in 1998, "Go the Distance" has for some reason always brought me back to the cruise. I remember very well Hercules singing this song in the show on the cruise and he did so well.

Then there's YMCA, Celebration, the Macarena, and the Cha Cha Slide - of course!

Then after our last cruise, two songs that I already had to remind me of our trips in 1998 and Disneyland Paris, now remind me of our last cruise and that would be "Remember the Magic" which is from 1998 and we heard it before the "Golden Mickey's" show and then "Dancin, a Catchy Rythm" which is from the parade in Disneyland Paris and we heard it before the Kid's Cub graduation.

So those are the main songs that remind me of the Disney cruises.

There was this Phil Collins thing they played every goldurned time the ship left port.

And for some reason they kept playing whatever song that creepy old guy dances to on the six flags commercials.

At least nobody sang the Titanic theme in the Promenade lounge this time although I will not be ready to hear "Smooth Operator" again for a very long time (I think they sang it every night while I was in the internet cafe.)

DH and I were just talking about this the other day. We've been on 4 Disney cruises but for some reason BNL songs always remind us of our cruises. Particularly because on our honeymoon cruise we spent a lot of time in Sessions listening to music via the headphones by the portholes and we always listened to BNL.

What great memories! Music always reminds me of certain times in my life.

Oct 2003..there were 2 "entertainers" singing and they started signing "Oh, What a Night" (December of '63)"

Evertime I hear it now, all I can think about is how I couldn't remeber who sang the song and spent 2 hours that night asking random people on the ship who was the artist.

The 4 Seasons, of course!

I am putting together a CD of music that reminds me of our past cruises. Songs like "Let's Get This Party Started", "YMCA", "I Won't Say I'm In Love"(from Herc. show).......I thought this would be fun to listen to on our 7 hour drive and prior to cruise....I've got my dd (9) and 5 of her friends going.....it will a surprise.....so, this music could be getting them in the mood without even knowing it........

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:  :wave2:

How funny, I always equate " I Won't Say I'm In Love" with the cruise too! I also have a Ipod play list of songs that being me back too. These other songs are on it are:

Betty Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes
Millenium - Robbie Williams
Venga Bus - The Venga Boys
Let's Go Crazy - Prince (as sung by the Charles Marshall Band!!!)
8th World Wonder - Kimberly Locke
Take Your Mamma Out - Sicssor Sisters
Thriller - Michael Jackson (80's night)

Most of these songs were either on the TV video channel or played in Waveband / Rockin Bar D.

The Matchbox Twenty song "If You're Gone" reminds me of a Wonder cruise that we took in 2000. It was playing over the loudspeaker in the area outside the Buena Vista Theatre (I think that's the name of the theatre) before a show.

When we took a 4-day Magic cruise in 1998 they had karoake night and a teenage girl sang the song "Brandy" by Looking Glass. She had such a beautiful voice that whenever I hear that song on the radio it reminds me of that cruise.

When we took a 7-day magic cruise in 2002 I was into Tom Jones at the time and now the song "It's Not Unusual" reminds me of that cruise.

Dont know if this one has been mentioned but i love
'On My Way' from Tarzan, they played that at the kids show in the theatre at the end of our 7 night cruise whilst showing photos & video footage of what they had been doing in the kids club during the week.
Makes me cry everytime i here it & very appropriate words when setting off on your vacation!

How about "Help Yourself?" But only because there was this awful ad with Regis Philbin and an SUV on a cruise ship.

I have since learned that "On My Way" is from "Brother Bear" and I don't know if they still play it whenever the ship pulls out of port or not.

another vote here for "On My Way". The lyrics are perfect for summing up how our family feels when we are leaving for a cruise...

Tell everybody i'm on my way
New friends and new places to see
With blue skies ahead, yes i'm on my way
And theres no where else i'd rather be

Tell everybody i'm on my way
And i'm loving every step i take
With the sun beating down, yes i'm on my way
And i can't keep this smile off my face

Cause theres nothing like, seeing each other again
No matter what the distance between
And the stories we tell, will make you smile
Or really lifts my heart

So tell'em i'm on my way
New friends and new places to see
And to sleep under the stars and could ask for more
With the moon keeping watch over me

Not the snow nor the rain, can change my mind
The sun will come out, wait and see
And the feeling of the wind
In your face can lift your heart

Oh... theres no where i'd rather be
Cause i'm on my way now
Well and true
I'm my way there
I'm on my way now

Tell everybody i'm on my way
I just can't wait to be there
With blue skies ahead, yes I'm on my way
And nothing but good times to share

So tell everybody I'm on my way
And I just can't wait to be home
With the sun beating down yes I'm on my way
And nothing but good times to show

I'm on my way
Yes, I'm on my way :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

"My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic.

On our first cruise, the duo in Promenade Lounge sang that nearly every night and we got a kick out of it. So we giggle nearly every time we hear that song.

Also, any Jimmy Buffett song since I so often hear his tunes while cruising.

I have a cd one of my Dismeet friends left in our fish extender. I will look to see what songs are on it. I absolutely love it.

That sounds great - the more songs the better.:)

The song "Cheeseburger in Paradise" by Jimmy Buffet will always remind me of my first Disney Cruise. They played that song no less than three times the morning I laid on the beach at Serenity Bay.

Money money money by Abba, comes to mind. It reminds me of a DCL cruise.

Okay, now that this thread has been revived, I need to add a couple of songs myself for a playlist I am compiling for this year:

Southern Cross - Crosby, Stills & Nash
Come Sail Away - Styx (yeah, it isn't really about cruising, but it fits)
Cool Change - Little River Band

Still working on some others...

Just thought of a few as I was downloading some songs to my ipod - of course, the Beach Boys. Not sure if these have been mentioned yet.

Surfin USA
Surfer Girl
Surfin Safari
Catch A Wave

Any one have any more song ideas?

I've heard of people receiveing a CD of different music played on the cruise. Mainly I think these were CC members, but I have also heard of others getting (I guess) a copy of this in their FE. I know at one time someone had a link to the music on the boarrds, but the original post was a few years ago and since that time, the connecting site no longer exists. Does anyone know where I could find these tracks. I have no idea what the songs are, but I know it would be great to listen to on the drive down...or while I'm sitting here "working".

TIA,

Tim

The CD you mention was given to CC members in the mail (I did not get one even though I have cruised with DCL 16 times) but hey...that's life.

I did eventually get a copy and it is mostly just generic steel drum music and one track is the ships horn "When you wish Upon a Star".

I listen to anything with steel drums, a lot of Bob Marley and "Sailing" by Christopher Cross (sp?) Also...here is one you may not think of. Search for "Down by the sea." I believe it was sung by the guy who was the lead singer for Men at Work. I found the song on a video In fact...here is the cruise ship video on Youtube. This always gets me in the mood for a cruise:

Yea...someone already mentioned Boat Drinks. Love it!! One that they played at one of our Sailaway parties was "Let's Get Loud" by J-Lo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL7CW7p-25Q I don't think it really has anything to do w/ a cruise or water...but it was a fun song to get pumped up to. Yes, and Bob Marley is a must as others have said.

anyhoo,
Just wanted to add our favorite, not played on DCL but we requested it on CC and they did play it. :cloud9:
'Magic' by Kenny Chesney from his 'Be As You Are' cd.

Also his 'No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems' title track of that cd. This instantly puts me in vacay mode!

Do you have virus protection like McAfee or Norton? You probably do or else you wouldn't be getting a notice right? My notice said something like it deleted the trojan before it could get in my computer.
You should 1st update your virus protection by having it look for updates, new things to look for. (Mine prompts me to check for new updates almost daily.) Then let it do a full scan and see if anything shows up.
Good luck! :surfweb:

I'd buy something right away. I always prefer to buy it as a disc rather than buy online. Just in case... Dh buys the 3 computer subscription so 1 price covers all 3.
I'd be really leary about entering any passwords until you get some protection. Do you keep saved pw's on your computer?
Don't put this off! Get something right away and run a full scan.
Good luck! :goodvibes

I have always used the free program from AVG. You can google the site to get the free download. It has blocked lots of stuff on my laptop and our desktop computers for years.

I have deleted the link to the site with the CD on this thread so that noone has a problem. When I was updating the FAQ thread the link had a virus warning too. The poster who did this is no longer posting on the DIS, at least with that ID, so I just left it off the FAQ. There is no reason for anyone to have the possiblity of getting messed up with the link.

Not sure if you are looking for just Disney music for your CD but there has been a great wealth of "vacation mood" songs that is compliled. Here are two threads that I merged that have a bunch of songs. I have this playlist on my computer and listen to it all the time....love the tropical vibe from them!!!

There used to be a website that contained the DCL Shoreside Survival Kit. However, the link no longer works. I wonder if DCL had the owner take it down and I wonder if there is another one out there.

I assume that the Castaway Club still sends these out to new members.:confused3

I don't think they send them out regularly or send the same thing. Once they sent out recipes for tropical drinks, one time was the CD, one time was a puzzle, etc.

Be careful about making copies. Even if you are making copies to give away, it is still copyright infringement.

Not sure if this qualifies, but I found a youtube video where they were playing 'Reach' by S Club 7 during the Pirates In the Caribbean party. I have that in my playlist along with all the other great music here.

Enjoy! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQGDTyGf8UA)

I'm really partial to "Rock the Boat" by the Hughes Corporation. I don't think they play it on the ship but they should.

Didn't see the whole thread but didn't see this - the original version of "Hot Hot Hot" was by Buster Poindexter (AKA David Johansen) for those who do not prefer the Disney version.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Par-tay!!!! :woohoo:

Sorry--couldn't resist. ;)

I recently added "Say Hey (I Love You)" by Michael Franti to my playlist. It's got a great happy beachy Caribbean feel to it.

That's a great one. Dh and I both love it. Well, I started part of this thread way back in 2005, and went on the DCL Magic again last year (used the cruise list from 2005) and will be updating it for our cruise on the Dream 6/2011!!! The first time I didn't have an ipod!!! However did I survive w/out it?:lmao:

I made a couple of CD's for the cruise yesterday and will make several copies to give away. Got to catch a sale on blanks!

One has a little Disney music, some instrumentals, some pop and a little reggae while the other is mostly pop/rock with some Buffet, Beach Boys and Kenny Chesney. Both are quite a mixture of styles but appropriate (imo) to the cruisin'

See you on the maiden voyage for the Dream!

Recently returned from my first fabulous cruise. The song that will always take me back there is "Another Postcard" (with chimpanzees) by Barenaked Ladies. The DJ was playing it at lunch on Castaway Cay and it was just one of those perfect moments in life when you're just supremely happy, you know? You're just so content and free from all care and worry, and your feet are tapping, and your shoulders are swaying, and the person you love the most in all the world is sitting across the table from you grinning. What a trip! :flower3:
