Ok, here goes, I just counted and I have a grand total of .... are you ready for this......
30 pins to trade... I realize some of you out there just fell off of your seats laughing, I hope no one snorted a beverage through their nose!
Anyway, fess up, some of you have to only have a few traders too.....right........???

I only have 10 and only 3 are moderately tradeable. So I think you are the big time.

I'm totally with Duckfan... I only have about 10-12 traders. I might have about 30 pins TOTAL... maybe. I know my mom laughed when I showed her the pin trading book that I made to take with me. :D I took one of those small zippered day planners, and put my own pin page (that's singular... one pin page) in it, along with two pieces of felt. :D :D :D But hey, what can you do...? Go out and buy a bunch of cool pins, and spend a bunch of money, just so you'll have a bigger collection before the big pin event?... Hey... Not a bad idea... ;)

Well, to be honest, I have gone to many pin meets with only 10 or so traders-- I could never afford to buy 2 or 3 of a pin just to have traders...I have been working hard since last November to get some traders!
So cool, I feel better and you guys make sure to find me-- I know we can trade!!

I think I have more than 30 traders, but does that really matter if I only have 3 or 4 that anyone wants?
I always seem to acquire as a trader some pin that I think is really hot, but no one ever wants. As a matter of fact, I think that sometimes a pin becomes unpopular just because I bought it as trader. ;)

Here Here Robyn!!!
I am THE worst speculator...BECAUSE I buy it, no one wants it.
Wanna trade Robyn :)

That's a good point.
The number of tradables becomes a relative concept, then.
If you only have ten, and they are all sought after, you're in better luck than you'd be if you had 20 that nobody cared for.

So, if Deb or Robyn buy a pin you can count on it being a http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/puppy.gif of a trader? I'll have to remember that!

If there is a box of LEs on the counter near the cash register . . . Do I buy more than one?
Oh, no.
And tomorrow, will there be any of these pins left anywhere in WDW?
Of course not.
You don't want to know the list of pins I walked away from -- because I knew no one would want those pins.

Perfect examples on why it's best to buy what you like.
I thought the Sun Wheel spinner was SO NEAT, I bought three. And I still like them -- all three of 'em! :jester:
I really bought the Bad Boys pin as a trader too. No interest. But not that I have really promoted it. It is just listed on my Pinpics as a trader.
I do think it is funny when a pin comes out how many people want it, or to see how high the bids go on auctions. Then six months later ---
When the 4 WDW post card pins came out I bought them right away. I really like them and always have. But I know most people don't.
I'm not a Pooh or Princess person. So it's just a matter of taste.
I wish fewer collectors liked HM and PotC. That would make it easier (and cheaper) for me!;)

That is in the small trades group. Being a virtual newbie I have right now 10 LEs
for trade and several racks....not many but not horrible either. I do have a couple
good pins, but I sigh to think of what I will have to give up to get my poor hubby
his much sought after Hat Pins.....mine are all 3500 LE or higher....sigh!!!!
I have a full set of July 4th dangles coming, but I dont know if they will make it
before the event. I leave next Wednesday early, and have my fingers crossed.
I worry I dont have anything good enough for Jeff and Lauri as a gift/trader for
the lanyard. Oh Well!!!! such is the life of a new trader.
Hey maybe we should set up our own little table, so we dont feel so strange
amongst those with books of traders......lol!!! Heres to us the little guys, may
we find just the right pin, and have just the right trader......Cheers gang.

I always seem to end up with ones that look really good on pinpics but nobody ever wants them to really trade for. Ask Robyn who is holding some of mine right now. Then I buy some that traded well before and bang......nobody wants them either. Moral, spend money on pins you like especially when you can't buy many. High spot.....having friends take them to disney to trade with cast members. It is fun to have mystery for a while.

I have a total of 46 pins; 14 are traders, but of those 14 I only know of 1 "sure" bet, and though it may be "sure", I don't mean "hot"!! And I have 3 possible traders, which means I like them, but if someone wanted to trade they aren't really great so I would part with them--but of course since they're not really great who would want them?!! In fact, I must confess, that today was the first day in this 6 week adventure (since I started collecting) that I got a little discouraged, and thought I might not ever really get this little adventure successfully "off the ground". Guess I need a little cheerleading......:(

I've more or less finished organizing my traders for next week.
My new medium pin bag has four pages.
I've categorized them up as follows:
Page 1: Pins people seem to want.
Page 2: Pins people should want.
Page 3: Pins nobody wants.
Page 4: Pins I don't even want.

Ok, I'm making a "small fish" trading sign! Just look for it at the meet :)
Then we can all safely approach and know we're among, small, timid trading friends!! :bounce:
And you big fish are not allowed to come laugh at us from the side lines!
We're having fun, thank you very much! :D

I object.
Even though I have alot of pins I still consider myself a small fish. I don't really enjoy trading because I don't follow e-bay and don't know a pins "worth".
I know I paid $8.50 or $10.50 for my LE's and I try to trade for a comperable priced pin.
I absolutly HATE when someone I am working on a trade with tells me that it is going for $200 on e-bay, or it is signed. I know what they paid for the pin, and they know what I paid for the pin. All else means nothing to me.
I make an offer for a pin and if it works then good for me and the other person, if they spout the pins cost on e-bay I write that person off as a potential trader.
Wasn't this all supposed to be for fun?
And those of you with small trader stock, remember, we all started that way, and if I have a pin you want, make an offer. I have been known to give away Millenium banner pins for two or three common rack pins. I just wish I had more to help some of you out.
So, can I join you guys in your small trader table, I promise to play nice. Peggie

Peggi is right - she has a wonderful heart and will try and help whenever she can! That being said, all my Ct cronies know that we have a medium sized collection but only a handful of traders. Rog and i get pins because we like them not to trade. For us it is comfortable that way. On occasion we'll have extras of some but rarely! Think that qualifies us as "small fish" too! But it means there is more room to swim!!!

Even though I have over 500 pins I only have 18 as traders. My sense of what's a good trader is never accurate. However I have found lately that when I traded some of these pins for other pins, I used those pins to get the pin I want. Does that make sense?
When I go to Downtown Disney in CA or to the pin shows, I find it easier buying pins (as traders) that people have mentioned wanting on the boards.

Someone recently counted off my traders in Pinpics, rejecting an offer and telling me that 38 was very skimpy and limiting.
:( O U C H :(
But then, I had requested that person to please not choose anything from my keepers list. ;)
In spite of such "inferiority", I've made some nice trades in the last few weeks! In fact, my mailbox today looked like it was Christmas! I got over 6 padded folders with lovely trades from Japan and all over the US in them! :bounce: :bounce:
So what I am trying to say is, don't let them bother you. If someone does not need what you have, somebody else will. :D

Another small trader here. Only reason I have more than 30 traders for this meet is cause I ransacked Ebay, and maxed out a couple of credit cards in the process LOL.
I always trade for what I like and have had many people including cast members (Scott ;) ) cringe when I've made a trade cause it was not equal. Oh well, I come away happy, and that's what counts.
So, I'll be looking for your sign Kathi. Count me in! :)

When the big Pin Adventure Meet was first announced, I pointed out that there would be several levels of traders. I don't remember what I originally called them, but it was something like this:
Level 1: The senior crowd -- Piles of pins and pin knowledge. (You know who you are!)
Level 2: The middlers -- Reasonable number of traders, confident enough to solo.
Level 3: Newbies -- A few carefully acquired traders, more or less in awe of the big fish, but willing to jump in and test the waters.
Level 4: ???? -- Not completely in touch with their surroundings, but able to respond to commands with assistance.
And then there were the "hangers-on" -- I think I said this included those who came along because their significant other made them and some people who stumbled in to the meet while looking for the restaurant.

Well, let me join the *small fish* club too! :D I've been trading for a while and have now gotten to the point where I have (drum roll) 1 pin and 1 pin set of three left to trade. :) I've traded for things I like and I'm very happy with my humble collection. Of course, now I'm hanging out at the *e* site trying to acquire some pins I like but I'd much rather trade for them. It's much more fun. I don't have any hopes of ever joining the ranks of the elite pintraders. I just don't have the means or the energy.
Wanda ~ I think the comments made about your traders was awful!:( It's a shame that someone felt the need to be so cruel.

Hi Everyone! This seems to be the place for me too! I've found that
most of the pins I think will trade well, sit in my bag. Then the ones
I'm not crazy about, so only buy one of, everybody wants. So I agree I get
what I like, and I know that someone will want to trade, sometime. I really
think everyone from the boards is more than willing to trade, and help people
out. I was having a horrible time trading at WDW, I almost gave up, but then I
got together with some super people from the boards, and wow, I had a trading
frenzy. I'm definitly in the small fish category, but you guys make me feel like a
a super trader!! So if I have only a few to trade or a bunch I know they'll find a home!
Wish I could join everyone at the pin event, but I'll be cyber cheering my partner along!
Go eeyore64!!!

Love that little fish you have swimming around in some of your posts - is it possible that we little fishies could have our own "fish in the pond?"
I may have about 30 traders, but they are also the ones that everyone else has had forever!! And, yes, I fall into the category of picking up more than one of something "neat" because I'm sure it will make a great trade. Example: I picked up extra 4th of July park dangles so I could trade for the ones I didn't get. I was SURE I could make a trade. Guess what I still have? ;) So,I am a small fish. After a few embarassing pin meets where I couldn't make one trade, I decided to just buy what I liked and trade with CM's. I have a lot of fun trading with the CM's. As Mickey said, I don't know what pins are hot or what they're going for on the auctions, so my knowledge is limited. But, I am having fun and I love my pins. I won't be at the big pin meet, but it's nice to know I do fit in somewhere! :D :D
