Does anyone know if it is an equal substitution? If not, what is the substitution?

Denine-
I do this occasionally and have anywhere from terrific to poor results. Usually I try to start with about 1/2 c of applesauce in place of 1 c oil. If that doesn't seem like enough, then add another 1/2 c.
For some things like cookies, I use 1/2 of the oil needed and the remainder applesauce. For example if the recipe called for 1 c. oil, then I would add 1/2 c. & 1/2 c. applesauce.
HTH!

Thanks! Anyone else?

From what I have seen my wife do, it is the same amount of applesauce for oil. The cakes turn out pretty good, but there are some substitutions that don't save very well (like pumpkin pie filling and pineapple sauce).
Hope this helps.

I just made pancakes with unsweetened applesauce instead of oil. I double the amount of applesauce. They were great!

It sounds like it is trial and error. We made waffles with applesauce instead of oil and they came out pretty good.
