I want to do one dinner show with the kids (age 12 & 7) during our stay in Orlando. We've been to two shows. One was the comedy/magic show at Wonderworks (the name escapes me) but we loved it! Total crack-up! The other one we've seen is Arabian Knights. My DD thought she'd died and gone to heaven as she is such a horse lover. We thought the show was great (although I didn't get the story line itself) and the food, some of the worst we've ever had (at a restaurant that is :rotfl:

So, does anyone know anything about the above 2? I'm sure they are completely different but any input would be great!!

Thanks,
Jenn

I don't know anything about Fiasco, but DD4 and I've done Dixie Stampede and thought it was great. The food at Dixie is very good, much better than Arabian Nights. The horsemanship is very good as well.

Dixie Stampede is a great show! Great food too. Just make sure no one in your party has allergies. We took my DS, age 5 at the time, and he had a major allergy/asthma attack. Eyes watered, coughed, sneezed, the whole time. We were heading to the ER when we left but his symptoms quickly dissappeared when we exited the building.

Another yes vote for Dixie Stampede! We've been to the show two times in the past eight months. We went to the regular DS show in April and went back for the Christmas show when we were in Orlando for Thanksgiving week. The show is very enjoyable for all ages and the food is very good. I highly recommend it.

BTW, we've also done Medieval Times and Arabian Knights over the years. We enjoyed AK very much, just like you. I wasn't all that impressed with MT.

Sorry I can't give you any advice on Fiasco. I've never even heard of it. Who would give that as a name to a show. Sounds like a bad omen to me :teeth:

Thanks everyone, I saw Fiasco on Ticketmania. It's brand new and is a comedy show, and does look like it might be funny.

I've done a search about Dixie and not much comes up. Can you guys let me know what the menu is (that's not on the web site either), drinks? and the kind of a little review of the show.

Also, where is it located? Any bad seats? All info very appreciated!!! :)

www.dixiestampede.com should answer any questions. They have the menu on there. Dixie Stampede is along I-4. If I remember correctly, it's past the Sea World exit and before the WDW exits.

Thanks for the link, it does answer my questions but I was unable to find the menu. It keeps referring to the 4 course feast, but I can't find any specifics as to what that is. Can anyone tell me?

Thanks

Here's the menu:
A Mouth-Watering Tender Whole Rotisserie Chicken
Delicious Hickory Smoked Barbecued Pork Loin
Dixie Stampede's Original Creamy Vegetable Soup
Scrumptious Homemade Biscuit
Hot Buttered Corn on the Cob
Tasty Herb-basted Potato
Dixie's very own Specialty Dessert (Apple turnover when we were there)
Unlimited Pepsi, tea or coffee (Also, you can now have wine with your meal included in the regular price.)

Dixie Stampede is located on Vineland Road right next to the Orlando Premium Outlets; you can see it from I-4.

There really are no bad seats. We've been seated along the sidelines, midway up and also front row in the end zone. The view was great either way.

The show is a fun competition between competitors from the north and the south. When you purchase your tickets you have to choose which side you want to sit on, then during the show you cheer for your side. The horses are great with terrific riders, they also have ostrich races (with riders!), pig races, dancers, comedy. It's just a great all-around show. The pre-show is very good also but that's where they'll try to get extra $$ out of you for drinks and souvenirs. They also take a family photo before you enter the pre-show and then come around during dinner to sell it to you. They don't really pressure you, just wanted to let you know in advance.

Also for your DD the horse lover, if you get there early enough, all the horses are on display outside in their stalls so she can get up close and personal. My DS LOVED this!

Obviously, we're big fans, but if your family liked Arabian Nights, I can't imagine you not loving Dixie Stampede. And the food at DS is better!

Wow, Lisa! Great, great info. How early do we need to get there to see the horses outside the stables? My DD would love this. She volunteers now at a horse farm, just to be close to the horses.

Food sounds good, we were a little worried after Arabian Knights but it's true that we weren't there for the food......

Thanks again, great review and good to know what they're serving.

You're OK--- for a yankee fan :teeth: (We're originally from Boston & R.I.!)

Thanks again,
Jenn

Well, the pre-show starts one hour prior to showtime so let's say you book for the 6:30 p.m. show. You'd want to arrive between 5-5:15 p.m. to see the horses outside, a bit earlier if you'd like to see the horse belonging to the "Australian Cowboy" who performs in the pre-show. (His show is really something. He rides on the horse up and down the aisles of the pre-show room right past your table. You can reach out and pet the horse!) There are at least 12-14 horses outside prior to the show. You can also walk across the parking lot and see some of the bison in their large enclosure.

I think your daughter will love it!

We went to Arabian Nights last night. All I can say, is that if your family enjoyed that show, you will love DS. I wish would we have seen AN 1st. Maybe we would have enjoyed it more. We've seen DS 3 times, & were extremely disappointed with the show last night. Have a great trip! :)

I don't know if it's specific days but I've seen on their marquee a "Meet the Horses at 10am" You may want to e-mail them and see what the specifics are. I know when I was a little girl I would have gone bonkers to meet the horses!

I'm relatively certain that at least some of the horses are outside in their stalls during the day. Just before Dixie Stampede opened in Orlando, we just rode over to the building to see what was going on and several of the horses were in their stalls outside. I'm just not sure it's worth a special trip to the DS site if you'll be there for the show anyway.

Okay, now this could be a really silly question, but we go to the Houston Rodeo every year...other than the good food, do you think it would be worth a visit by my family or should we focus on another activity instead?

Fiasco? I haven't heard of that one, either! I do know that Skull Kingdom (which hasn't been doing too well lately) just added a "magic" dinner show, but I haven't heard anything about it.

This question may sound pathetic, but are there any loud bangs like gunfire or anything in the show, because I get very apprehensive? I have to put my fingers in my ears even for fireworks. Sad I know!

How about the Pirate Adventure dinner show? Anybody have any luck with that one. My DS (3) loves Pirates, but I'm worried that it might be too scary.

Dixie Stampede sounds great.. If you do the pre-show and dinner how long can you expect to be there? Can you take photo's during the show or is this not advisable?

no you are not allowed to take photos...
in total I think you will be there two and a half hours or something like that.

DS is a GREAT Show! the horses and "competition" element between the north and south are great

The food is also really good!

Dont worry, I think your son would enjoy this show very much! The stage (made to look like a huge ship) is really cool, and the fight scenes (during the rescue of the princess) aren't really scary at all.
The comedy is a little corny, food isn't THAT impressive (but not bad either), and the show is VERY kid oriented (they even invite the kids to do a celebratory kind of pirate march near the end).

We actually took our 2.5 year old and she loved it... she was shouting "Pirate! Look, Pirate Jumping!! " It was a fun show and I'd recommend it for alll kids, especially ages 4-12.

We've been to Dixie Stampede, Medieval Times and Arabian Nights in other cities. IMHO if you can only do one Dixie Stampede is the best.

Just back this week and went to Dixie Stampede on Tues. We've done two other dinner shows in Orlando, the outta control magic show at Wonderworks (loved it) and Arabian Knights which we enjoyed although the food might be the worst we've ever eaten out publicly.

We arrived at Dixi Stampede early and my daughter who is a horse crazed child really enjoyed strolling past the stables and checking out the horses etc. We booked late (2 days before) but still had great seats in the third row. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house, really. The preshow was fun with this electric cowboy riding his horse up and down stairs, between seated guests etc. The food was good and there was lots of it. Although I had heard that they didn't give you silverware, they did.

My DGD7 was picked to be in the show to chase the chickens and received a medal and it was the highlight of her trip. Just as a sidenote, they wanted my husband and I to be in it also (DH was picked at Seaworld too, I told him we must have "tourist dork family" scrawled across our foreheads :rotfl2: ) but because I didn't have backs on my shoes (was wearing Birks), we couldn't. It ended up we would have rode around on wooden stick horses, so the shoe thing ended up being a good thing!! But, if you like that celebrity, famous stuff, wear closed back shoes and you might get picked!

We enjoyed this show but surprisingly we found Arabian Knights more enjoyable (again, with the exception of the food). Arabian Knights horse choreagraphy (sp?) was outstanding. Really took our breath away and while I didn't really follow the story, I could have watched those horses all night. In fairness, DS is a totally different kind of show with more than just horses. It was good, stompin kind of fun-- but I have to say, it was gettin kind of looong and that Dolly look-a-like was startin' to git to me!!!! But, my DD12 horse girl liked the Dixi Stampede better, so what do we know?!

Oh ,and- it said no flash photography or video but when DGD went down into the arena, they did come up and tell us to feel free to photograph or video which we did, so in case you do become famous :) , you might want to bring your camera. I'm glad we had ours and we have this memory on tape for her!

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but would you mind explaining the "loved it" about wonderworks show? I'm about 90% sure we need to see this, but I'd love to hear your thoughts/experience with it. Did you do just the magic show, or the "whole shabang" with wonderworks, etc. Thanks for any info on this, and again, I hope the OP doesn't mind my adding to their post with more ?'s.

I think I am the original OP from way back when so you're not really hijacking the thread :) !

We just did the outta control magic show with the pizza dinner included. We didn't do Wonderworks or the laser show etc. We found the comedy / Magic show to be hilarious. Our girls were 10 & 12 and we all just laughed and laughed. We found it to be truly a family, funny show. It was pizza and beer, wine and pop and it wasn't bad pizza. I'm pretty sure with the coupons, the show and dinner for four of us was under $50. It's pretty tame comedy with audience participation. I'm not a huge comedy buff but I loved this show.

DS cost $151 for 3 adults. Right now, they are running a special that kids under 12 get in free with a paying adult. So, my DGD7 was free but DD12 was adult admission. I booked directly through them. Ticketmania is usually cheaper but wasn't running the child free special so I went directly through DS.

We did Dixie Stampede in Myrtle Beach last August. My DS 4 still talks about it. By far, the best part of his beach trip (and we did a lot.) We sat in the last row, which worked out for us because my DS2 was able to move around. I love the soup and bisquits. Yummy! Also we didn't have to pay for the 2 year old. They said he would have to sit on our laps and wouldn't get a dinner of his own, but there was plenty of room and plenty of food to share. Unfortunately he loved the soup and bisquits too!

I think for our Orlando trip we may try the Pirate show for something different. The boys both love Pirates. I hope they won't be disappointed. If they are, they'll just have to wait until August to go to Dixie Stampede again.

I forgot, it may be different in Myrtle Beach, but we took lots of pictures. We took a few of the show, that didn't really come out and lots of my boys enjoying the show. No one said anything to us about it. I can't remember but I'm sure I checked before hand.

The Outta Control show is $19.95 per adult. Are there any coupons in those little coupon books you find around town?

Dinner Shows are my favorite thing to talk about at work. I sell tickets to them everyday. I have seen every dinner show in Orlando and I think the best one for kids is the Pirates Dinner Adventure. Yes, Dixie Stampede is good, but Pirates is very interactive. They get all the kids in the audience involved. That alone made it my kids favorite. The food is one of the best too. They have all you can eat appetizers during the preshow.

We enjoyed the Dixie Stampede--especially the pre show with the horse that went up the stairs. The thing I didn't like was the beginning of the regular show when they ran the buffalo out into the ring. It may have been that the riders were getting a little aggressive, but the baby buffalo were getting knocked around quite a bit by the rest of the herd as they chased them. We felt sorry for them--they were SO CUTE!

This post has me thinking we need to see this show. A night away from WDW would do us good. When tickets are purchased are the seats assigned at that time (like Hoop Dee Doo Review) or do they asisgn your seats when you check in the night of your performance?

Thanks

I do know that Skull Kingdom (which hasn't been doing too well lately) just added a "magic" dinner show, but I haven't heard anything about it.

The official name is "Chamber of Magic at Skull Kingdom." The show is very simple, no big flashy tricks, and with an accent on comedy. My wife and I went to see it not expecting it to amount to much and we were both in stitches.

I've posted a full review here. (http://www.theotherorlando.com/contents/chapters/12/chamber.html)

For Dixie Stampede, your seats are assigned at the time you purchase your tickets, so the earlier you purchase, the closer to the action you'll be. In all honesty, there isn't a bad seat in the house. We've seen the show twice (the regular version once, the Christmas show another). One time we were on the side in one of the top rows, the second time we were in the first row but on the end. The view was great either way. BTW, when you purchase your tickets, you'll be asked if you want to sit with the North or with the South. At that time you can ask which "side" they still have the "better" seats available for.

Hope this helps. Have a great time, I'm sure you'll love the show.

I saw DS at Mrytle Beach and enjoyed it very much. The food was good, and the show and horsemanship very entertaining. After the show the horses were stationed along the walls so that the customers could talk to the riders and pet the horses from the stands. I don't know if all of the DS places do this.
