Just got a call from a friend who informed me that as of Nov. 1. Delta will not have non-stop service from Islip to Orlando any more..need to stop over in Atlanta first!!! Bad news.

I'm not to sure of that. Currently we have 11/21 ressies and just booked 11/27 ressies for friends the other day...

Just checked Delta website and many flights have stopovers in Cincinatti AND Atlanta! It has been such a pleasure flying out of Islip. Very disappointed to hear about the change.

I just checked the dates we are travelling in Feb. and there are no non-stops. My friend got a call from her travel agent today. Pluto I hope you are right and I have the incorrect info!
If this is true and the flights are changed, will Delta call all the people already booked on the non stops?

I was wondering why all of the flights I was checking prices on disappeared! Guess I won't be flying out of Islip anymore. I don't get it, these flights were always packed! I'd like to make the lamebrain whose idea this was sit next to my kids on a non-direct flight. See how smart an idea he thinks it is after that!!!

I just called Delta and was told nonstop service to MCO from Islip was discontinued. Maybe Jet Blue should move in and take over Delta Expresses old nonstops. When I checked on the website my October flight is still non-stop. YUK<YUK<YUK! I had been passing up a LGA flight for $218 in favor of waiting for Islip prices to drop for Easter. I just put the same LGA flight on hold for $267.
I loved the convenience of driving ourselves to Islip. Anyone know any reliable local limo companies?:earseek:

I just checked as well, that does suck, unless I hope its temporary...That will make Southwest even busier!

I wouldn't wait for Delta to call you. Now that they've changed the flights, they will automatically assign you to new flights, which might not be at all convenient. The flights will fill up, and you might get shut out of the best times. Also, now that you're flights have been changed, so has the equipment, and you no longer have seat reservations.
Call now, do'nt wait for them to call you!!
And Jet Blue can't "just move in". Delta owns the gates and slots, they would have to want to seell them to jet Blue (doubtful) and get various approvals for same.

I called Delta last night. Yes, it is true. No more direct flights out of Islip. They claim they were not profitable. If it wan't for the fact that I have a voucher, I would be flying Southwest in March. I agree with other posts, every flight I have been on was full. Makes you wonder. As for me, I will continue to use Islip as it is only 5 minutes from my house and I park for free.

CVG is Cincinnati, a growing Delta hub.
I flew into there a few times over ten years ago, I don't recall much about it, so it wasn't bad or great. But things can change a lot for the better or worse in ten years.

I called Delta and found out they had automatically re-booked me. Since the flight going down now has a stop over in Atlanta we arrive 1 1/2 hours later. That wasn't too bad. BUT the flight coming home which was scheduled to depart 3:40 - they changed to a noon flight!!! I was unhappy with that, so now I'm coming home the next morning and it is costing me more $$ to stay another night in a hotel!!!
If I didn't have Delta vouchers, I would not be flying them!!!

hold on -- are you saying that they cancelled your already reserved non-stop flight?

When I called to ask if it was true that Delta was no longer flying non stop to MCO they said "yes"...and proceeded to check my flights...they already had me moved to other flights. He said it was a good thing I called, since I was able to move around the return flight before they were all sold out. We are going President's week and you know how crowded it is then.

just hung up with them. Sure enough they changed flights for 11 of us without any notice! Not happy at all! Had them issue a full refund and booked Southwest, a little more money but don't want a 2 hour layover on a 2½ flight! what a shame!

Pluto - were you able to get non stop on SW? How much? Looks like Southwest will be my choice for trip after this next one! If I ran Delta I would be trying to ADD flights at Islip!!!
Pluto4President
08-03-2001, 03:23 PM
Yes, I got non stop and have used them before. I paid just over $300 ea r/t. Leaving the day before Thanksgiving, so they get ya. That was for 6 of us, the other 5 are coming down 11/27 with the same return and they were $232 rt.
On the other hand, yesterday I booked a flight for a DVC WDW getaway 9/29-10/01 for $130 r/t on Southwest.
The only drawback is the non-reserved seating. But people are usually pretty good about letting kids sit near their parents ºoº

Just read in Newsday that Delta is adding new flight to Orlando from JFK starting Nov. 1. The flights leave at 7:15am, return flight leaves Orlando 6:40pm. Those were the flights we always took from Islip!!! Although the flights we took at Christmas time were always fully booked, our flights to and from Orlando last month had many empty seats.

In my opinion, if they weren't filling the flights, they should have reduced them. I believe they had at least 2-3 flights leaving ISP to MCO in a day.

We were flying out of Isp in Dec. When I checked the website hoping for a price decrease, I noticed the flights were not there. I called and was told that we had been moved to different flights . I e-mailed Delta to complain and received an answer stating the changes were made for $ reasons. That was yesterday. Today I called and asked to cancel my flights and received a full refund. 4 tickets at 229.50 each. I asked if they might change back to direct flights in the future and the agent said this was a major schedule change and they would not consider changes until spring of next year. I hung up and booked on the internet for JFK, I will never use LaGuardia again, and paid 166. a ticket. The savings was 250. so I feel a limo won't be a hardship. My friends and I are upset about this and hope another airline will start to fly direct or that SW will add more direct flights to the schedule as they only have 1 now. I was also told that the new schedule would begin in Nov. I changed to JFK because the direct SW flight would cut our last day short and the tickets were more $. By the way, the changed flight on the return left at 10:30 in the morning.

I would have liked to ask for a refund, but we are using vouchers that we got last Feb. because we were bumped since the flights were OVERBOOKED. Now with these connections thru Atlanta, I hope we don't get bumped and end up with more Delta vouchers!!! I'm looking forward to flying SW next time. I'm just glad I found out about this change - especially since I didn't like the return flight they had put us on. I wonder when Delta would have gotten around to callilng us.

About CVG....it is the only airport that I will willingly have a layover at. I've been thru there 3 or 4 times in the last 6 years. It is very easy to get around. I think once our gate was in concourse C (could be wrong about that, sorry it's been a while) and we had to take an actual bus from the main part of the airport. Even then, we had no problems. No different than taking the monorail at MCO.

DisneyHumbug--It might make sense to fly out of LGA or JFK to get a non-stop flight.
Spirit left ISP when they sold their gates to SW, SW is trying to get more gates in ISP. I wouldn't be surprised if SW picked up Delta's gates and added more flights.

Lewisc - parking is too expensive at LGA or JFK, and since I'm much closer to Islip, we've gotten spoiled flying out of there...and I'm stuck with Delta since I do have the vouchers...but next time I'll look into Southwest...

Thanks for posting this or I never would have known. There were six of us booked. We had rearranged dates and did alot to coordinate our trip to go down together. I called and changed mine to the JFK 7:15 and return 6:40. But my SIL who had 3 tickets was in S. Dakota. I had to pretend I was here and change flights so we had the exact flights. What a pain. The thing is the flights seemed full from ISP and the flights we just rebooked at JFK were empty. I will certainly miss going out of ISP.
Thanks for this post!

Last time we went to JFK (March) from near Port Jefferson -- the limo ride was about $80. We used the limo service used by my husband's company as I wanted reliability more than anything. We may have been able to find a less expensive ride, but making sure we get to the airport safely and on time is my first priority.
We used to use Delta out of Islip -- but I now love JetBlue!! The planes are great, the people are great, the prices are phenomenal, they're are almost always on time (or early), and the girls love those in-seat TVs. I also found that Delta basically overcharged for most of the seats out of Islip -- and the inconvenience of getting a limo ride far outweighed the extra expense. They also serve great snacks and give you the entire can of soda!! (I know such a little thing, but it makes me very happy).

Disneybug-Sure we'll pick you up on the way! LOL But the only problem there is six of us already. I'm not sure yet what we'll do. We are going Nov. 27, when are you going?
BTW, I'm in the same boat I really wanted to use SW or JetBlue I'm sick of Delta but we had vouchers.
How is the parking at JFK? I havent' gone out of there in 4 years. I usually take a limo to Laguardia and the cost was $60 total (last week) including tip, but one way.

LOL Poppins - I meant would you share the information with me??? We are not going until the February break...I haven't gone out of JFK since summer '97 (a lifetime ago)- and we took a limo that time, but don't remember the cost...I was at LGA last week (my daughter went to Denver) - that place is horrible when you compare it to ISP or MCO!! If Delta bumps us again, I may try LGA next time...if we don't get bumped, I'm switching to Southwest.

IMHO LaGuardia is horrible. We flew from there last Jan to save on the ticket prices at ISP and would NEVER do that again. We left over 1 hr. late due to the amount of flights going out and the return was worse. We sat on the runway for 1 hr. after seeing all of NY, LI, and NJ for over 1 hr. JFK has to be better.

OMG -- I just checked in here to see about the National codes and I saw this thread. I can't believe this...I'm very upset!! I travel with 2 carseats and changing planes is just not an option for us. Plus we are out east and getting to JFK is a major pain in the butt. Oh man, better get offline and call Delta and find out what they did with my Nov. flight. AHHHHHH!!!!!

I agree about LGA. It's the worst airport in the country in terms of on time performance, poor attitudes, dirty, being hassled by gypsy drivers and vagrants, etc. I'd rather drive to EWR, which I hate, but it's a lot better than LGA. JFK is another alternative, but for some reason there aren't a lot of good deals out of there.

I booked on the internet for 166. and if the price goes lower you can get a credit for future flights. They are good for one year. I want to try Jetblue out of JFK but their price was 200. Our return is Dec. 22, so that might have something to do with it. So this time we have Delta Express out of JFK. The early am out and around 6 PM return. I also noticed that the new flights from ISP are no longer Delta Express. That could be why they added the flights on to JFK last week.

Maureen, I read somewhere that you could not get credit for reduced airfare when you purchase it on the net. So glad that I heard wrong! Was that through Delta's site ? How do you work it online to get a credit?
maureenmac
08-09-2001, 09:24 AM
The way it was explained to me is - if you purchase on line and the online price is lowered you can receive a credit. If you purchase online and the price for resv over the phone is lowered you can not receive a credit. Hope I am right? Anyone ever have success with this?
maureenmac
08-09-2001, 09:40 AM
Debbie - your question got me thinking of where I heard this info so I called Delta and asked. The answer I received was if the price goes down, call Delta and they will transfer you to their Website desk and you will be issued a credit.
poppins50
08-09-2001, 10:57 AM
I did it with the my last flight. I booked it over the internet and watched the prices go down $35 per passenger (we had three). I called up and they gave me the credit right over the phone. The only problem I ran into was when we went to use the credit.
1.My SIL said with a voucher you have to go to Delta and purchase ticket to hand in voucher. Thank goodness she was wrong.
2. Didn't make sense to me so I called a few times. You can purchase tickets over phone with electronic vouchers but not over the internet. So you lose any extra miles for booking over the internet and prices were less over the internet.
3. The only real problem I faced was we had two electronic credit (because prices lowered 2 x) and it took 4 phone calls but I was finally able to purchase tickets over the phone instead of going to Delta.
4. If I didn't have those electronic vouchers I would have cancelled and asked for a refund of Nov. flight to go on SW or Jet Blue.

BTW, For Long Islanders, there is a lady's night mini DIS Meet at Chilis in Westbury, being put together by Ripleysmom. It's Aug. 17 on a Fri. night at around 7:00pm. There are about 6 or 7 women going as of now, that are looking forward to the Margarita's. I would love to meet more Long Island Dis people (even if you don't like margarita's:D ), so if your interested PM or email me.

We couldn't get pricing for nonstop from Isp to MCO for Pres Week 2002 back when we booked in May. Never figured it was because of Delta's cancelling the flights. Ended up getting LGA - TPA nonstop for $180 x 5. This was a pure economical decision and we'll deal with the added hassle of LGA.
Would love to share some 'ritas with you, but we're way out East on the island...Westbury would take 1 1/2 hours drive. Not much fun on a Friday night. Enjoy ... :jester:

It took 3 phone calls and an hour and 20 minutes on the phone but we got our flights straightened out. We are actually saving about $550 for 6 passengers by flying out of JFK. Unfortunately Delta was the cheapest fare at JFK...I wanted to fly another airline since they're screwing Long Islanders but money still talks. We got fares of $154.50, $143.50 and $84 for my DS. They wound up cancelling our old flights and booking the new ones but it took a while b/c they needed supervisors at every turn and we had 2 different ressies. Plus we had electronic vouchers from the old tickets that I wanted a refund for and it took a while for them to figure out how to do it. They wound up applying them to our new tickets even though it was already booked and paid...their mistake, they should have done it that way the first time.
So...it seems to have worked out OK. I got prices from LIALS, Classic & Winston but hopefully someone will be able to drive us and pick us up. Hopefully the kids can put up with an extra hour and a half of travelling. I know I can find a way to use the extra money we saved!!
I would love to drink Margaritas with you guys...Chili's is my favorite place to drink...mmmmm!! Unfortunately we're pretty far from there but have a strawberry one for me!!

We also had credits applied to our original tkts, I purchased them at MacArthur in order to use them. When I asked if they would be reissued or considered as cash in the amt paid, because the new ticket prices from JFK were cheaper, them recommended that I cancel the Isp resv and book new tkts on the internet. They credited the full amt to my charge card and I saved $250 on 4 tkts.

Maureen-Thats great I didn't even ask to do that, I just assumed with the vouchers they wouldn't do that. Well you know what happens when you assume.
Linda- I now what you mean everytime I got on the phone it took forever because the supervisors always got involved. But you got a good deal.
Disneydreamer-Traffics going your way, Nassau county is a ghost town. LOL But I understand. :)
Sorry you all can't make it. Last time was at Jaypd's house in Bohemia, but I don't think anyone thought of posting on the transportation board. Next time we'll pick something further out east. I lived in Center Moriches for 10 years and have all my inlaws in the East Moriches. I miss it so much and I want to move back but my DH refuses to do the commute. He's spoiled now, he only drives 10 minutes through a county park and he's at work, so unless the company closes there is no way he's moving again.
BTW the last Delta agent I talked to said to check our flights again. Because at the end of Sept. they are making more big changes. She would'nt say much after that. Which worries me because the flights I switched to are empty. So I'm hoping they wont' cancel. So I guess we have to keep an eye out on these flights.

Poppins50 - I wouldn't worry about the 6:15 from JFK, according to the Delta Website that flight was just added by Delta Express. They also added a return flight that comes in after 9PM. Sound familiar? Sorry can't make the Margarita night. Will be on vacation, unfortunately we aren't going to WDW. We all can't wait until Dec. for our first trip at Holiday time. We usually go in Jan and miss all the Christmas Festivites.
