HI all, wow this is hard for me to even write, but as of last night, I quit smoking! I knwo some of you may say, you can;t really say that yet, kinda premature, but I decided I have to start thinking like that. so, I QUIT! I am just so worried about eating now. You know they say you gain when you quit cause you start munching.
I am gonna need something to eat while driving right after I eat. I need to do something with myself. I have got some patches so the addiction portion is under control, I tink, its the habits. And I have so many, like sitting on front of the computer which is when I did most of my smoking. WHAT SOULD I MUNCH ON if need be?
I do LC so any advise would help......... tihnk I may pick up some sugar free lollies? that ok? fo LC?
thanks all.............

First, I think it is GREAT that you have taken this step. Yes, you have quit! That is wonderful!!! :cool1:
For me chewing gum helps me eat less. I think it works on the same principle as brushing your teeth. When my mouth is minty fresh, I don't want to ruin that. But, it's a bonus because you are chewing, too.
Best of luck for the next few weeks! I'm sure it is hard, but I know you can do it! :D

WOO HOO!!!! GREAT news, Renee!! Yes, I think you're doing the right thing by saying you've QUIT! A lot of this battle is going to be mental, not physical.
Keep a bottle of water with you and drink like a fish!! Start chewing gum during those tough moments when you were used to lighting up.
YOU CAN DO IT!!

Renee....big hugs to you!!! You can do this.......if you can walk a half marathon...you can quit smoking. As a once 3 pack a day smoker, I can tell you it is going to be hard....but doable!!! Looking back, for me it was more of a habit thing. The hardest time being while driving. Definately find yourself something to occupy your hands..one of those stress balls may work...I used a straw.....and "smoked" it until I became totally bored with that. I know you can do this....so just imagine yourself feeling so much better a month from now..it will get worse before it gets better.....especially when you get rid of all that crap that gets in your lungs. Be prepared to cough a lot. But just think, you will be so much more healthy and not smelling like a big ole butt!!
YOU CAN DO IT RENEE!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I think it's great!! Quitting is the best thing you could have ever done for yourself. Things that helped me were washing hands, drinking orange juice and for the first few weeks avoid the biggest triggers. For me I did not drink coffee in the morning and no alcohol. Good Luck you can do it!!!

I wanted to say Contratulations to You Renee! I know you can do it! I like the idea of the straw and water to change your habits. Hope you can find something to work for you. Ice cubes work to crunch if needed.

Congrats!!! What a great attitude you have! I can only second what everyone else has said... drink water, chew gum etc. And change where you get gas, grocery shop, or other places where you used to buy cigarettes. That way it will be a fresh start! Also maybe put aside the $$$ you would have spent and save up to treat yourself to a spa weekend or something that pampers you!
Congrats!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!

Congratulations!
I recommend cinammon sticks. They are approximately the same size and weight as a cigarette, and they give you a bite if you suck on it helping with the oral fixation. I used them especially in the car when I quit and they were a real help.
I agree that you will be coughing a lot. While you lungs start to work out all the junk you will cough ten times as much as you do smoking. Just know that the coughing will get better, not worse as it would if you continued to smoke.
For a long time I missed it, but then one day I didn't. You'll get there too.
Good luck!

TY TY TY all! its noe almost 3 oclock, I have been successful! I feel so good about this and I know this is it! This is a very bid deal for me! I have smoke since I was 13! thats 20 years! I cant even believe I can say that! I really do think that this patchi s helping me, so far its been all mental! Big time, the cravings come and I say to myself, "it'll pass" it'll pass". I made such good choices today too, Last night I began thinking we'll I shoudl slurge on food being that I am quitting! NO way! I am not gonna gain weight by quitting smoking!I will overcome that fact!\
So I headed over to the store and bought some gim and hard candy both sugar free. then I spotted the sunflower seeds! wow been a while! and my biggest challenge will be sitting in front of the computer. I smoke here alot so I will keep my seeds here and then wean myself off of them in a few weeks.
Most of all, I am trying to forget that I even SMOKED! and that seems to be working. I spent the dad with my dad and didnt tell him when he figured out that I hadnt froze him out of the car cause I didnt light up! he was so happy. He quit a 2 pack a day habit 9 years ago. He has been trying all day to tlak about it! I know he is tring to help but honestly, I just dont want to talk about it TOO Much. I go with this " I was never a smoker" type of feeling!
anyway, got some questions about label readin so got to go post a new thread.............. thank you all

AWESOME!!! Congratulations! I am sooo glad for you -- you are going to be soo much healthier.
As for the "oral fixation" habit I have, I am going through sugar free gum and mints like crazy with a glass of water nearby. It keeps me from reaching for something to eat.
Good luck and God bless!

Congratulations Renee!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
My mom smoked for 19 years and quit after her favorite uncle died of cancer. I was thirteen at the time. She hasn't touched a cigarette in 23 years. We are not known for our willpower in our family. If my mom can do it, so can you! You should be proud of yourself for making this very big first step.

WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START THE NEW YEAR!!! I can't even imagine how tough it must be...STAY STRONG and know that each day you can go without smoking your lungs will have that precious time to make themselves strong for you in the future. My grandfather quit cold turkey...he went right to Wrigley's gum...to this day anytime I get a whiff of Juicy Fruit I have fond memories of him. Also, add up how much money you normally would spend a month on cigarettes and for every month anniversary..use that money for something GREAT!!!
1. A savings fund for a future vacation
2. A great new outfit
3. A treat at a local salon
4. New pair of walking shoes (lungs will thank you!)
5. A new hobby...painting, crocheting, playing a musical instrument...
STAY STRONG!!!!

You CAN do it!
I keep a bag of celery (cut into bite size pieces) on my desk at work so that I have SOMETHING, ANYTHING close at hand. Celery burns more calories to chew and digest than it counts - I like that math!!!!
Just a suggestion....................

thanks again everyone, I was thinking of makeing this annoument on WISH "after" about a week of not smoking, in case I failed.
BUt glad I decided to do it "when I quit". I am the kind of person who likes to keep their word! lol. also, glad I did cause it posts like all of yours that keep me going!
Imhall......... its funny you mentioned the money saving aspect. I did the math and one pack a day cost me $17.80 a year! I kid you NOT, right as I saw this math, a disney commercial came on ( and we dont get many of those here in NY) and it was a new commerical that says a family of four can visit for 7 days for about $1500. or sometimes less!
that was a big boost for me! lol!
anyway thanks againa ll for the support!
keep it coming
day 2 and going strong!

I think you need to redo the math( or at least move the decimal) :D !! I have a feeling it cost A LOT more than that for a year in smokes!!! :earseek:
Glad to hear you are doing so well! :cheer2: :cheer2: Keep up the good work!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Lisa figured it out, so I can't take any credit here....but I will share what I learned.....use this for your clippie.
OK, that did not work...maybe try copying and pasting my clippie....I did have the code in there and thought it would just show the code...no luck there!! If all else fails, I bet Lisa can walk youthrough it!!!
Good luck!! It took me a while to get mine to the right size!

Congrats Renee on your decision!!! Think how much better your lungs will feel on the 2006 marathon.
My mom quit smoking five years ago, after smoking for almost 50 years--she had stopped off and on before, but this one works. She did a program through our hospital that included a tape--she swears that tape "programmed" her to hate smoking, and the smell of smoking. Good luck--and if you're tempted--post her first and will try to get you through it.
We're pulling for you!!

Renee, Renee, Renee.... it only took you a week after the half to quit???? I AM SO PROUD OF YOU GIRLY!!! You were talking about it at the start line as if it would be a while before you tried, but look at you now! Don't worry about what you eat right now- just take things one step at a time. A little weight gained is not going to be as harmful to you as smoking that next cigarette will be. I AM REALLY REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU! Keep posting- especially if you just have to have a smoke- we'll ALL be here for our friend.
