Hi Everyone :wave2: I have enjoyed for so long reading everyone's journals and seeing their success and have decided that the journal will hopefully help me to stay committed and accountable for my choices. ::yes:: I joined WISH in September of 2003. I found these boards by accident and Tammy (PartyofSix) helped encourage me to come out of lurkdom and start posting which I did. ::yes:: I had just begun to lose weight in August and was on a 1200 calorie a day diet. DH and I were doing this together and actually started with a version of the Subway diet but soon got tired of that so we started learning how to cook and eat completely different than we had in the past. In September I also signed up for a WISH buddy who has really been a huge part of the reason I have continued on even despite gains and setbacks. ::yes:: At my lowest I was 185.6 (from a high of 243) That was in about Oct/Nov and has climbed steadily since then. I really gave myself too many "off days" that turned into "off weeks" during the holidays. I decided to begin the WW plan. I did lots of reading online especially here. I bought the WW points books but do not go to the meetings. I have found the switch over to WW very easy and I'm really enjoying learning about how to get the most bang for my points. :teeth: I am finding how much I love fruit when I remember saying not even a year ago to someone that I didn't eat fruit because I didn't like it. My favorite foods at the moment are grapes and apples so that's quite a change. I actually told my DH that I'd rather have a big bowl of grapes than ice cream and he told me that was a victory in and of itself and I realized he was right. :) I hope that I'm making changes that will stick with me forever. ::yes:: DH is so supportive. He does anything and everything he can to help me and keep me motivated. He is completely easy going - especially about food and eats pretty much anything I cook and has become such an adventurous eater compared to the burgers and pizza guy I married. :teeth: He lost 100 lbs and got to goal last year but has edged up a little over the holidays and is working on getting back to goal. He is lucky in that he doesn't have very far to go. :teeth: DH is a runner and my goal is to be able to run 3 miles with him this summer in parks around town and down by the lake. I think that would be such a celebration of the changes I have made in my life to go from being the girl who parked as close to the mall as she could to the girl who's running around parks. :teeth: I'd also like to run my first 5K in November. It's a local 5K that supports arthritis and is held at the zoo. My DH ran it in 2003 and I walked but this year I want to run!! I'm up to 1 mile without stopping on the treadmill and hope to be up to 3 miles by the summer and then will continue to try and improve my speed. Everything I've read about running says to concentrate first on endurance then speed so that's what I'm doing. DH and I joined a gym (the WI winters aren't very condusive to running :teeth: ) on Jan 3rd and have been trying to stay committed to going. The yucky weather this week has made my motivation waver quite a bit but tomorrow I'll be there working doubly hard for skipping today  My goal has been 3 days a week working on cardio and strength training but my true goal is to get this up to 4 days and maybe eventually 5. I'm additionally trying to eat a lot more organic foods. We have been trying new things every week and so far we have been really happy with all the things we have tried. ::yes:: I'm a big fan of a soy milk milkshake that we have found. It takes so decadent but only 3 points for a cup and has 2 g of fiber! I also want to learn more about portions so I can recognize right away when I'm served too much or have even served myself too much. I have been trying to always eat one serving of anything even if I have points for 2 servings so I can get more accustomed to what an actual serving is. I want my changes to last a lifetime. I want to continue to be healthy and take care of myself and not to ever have to lose this weight again. ::yes:: So that's a little about me.
As of my weigh in on Sunday I was down to 200 (down 7.8 lbs since January 3rd. :Pinkbounc ) I also lost 6" in two weeks. :Pinkbounc My goal is 144 and more importantly to be FIT! I plan to post often and to try to offer encouragement and support to all of you as well!

Thanks for the welcome! :) I wil post later today how my day is going. Hoping to get to the gym for a nice long workout tonight. 5-10" of snow predicted tonight and tomorrow so I want to get in a good one in case I don't make it tomorrow. ::yes::

I'm so disappointed in myself for skipping the gym AGAIN! Why is it that it seems like such a good idea at 4:30 to skip but when 7:30 or 8:00 rolls around and I realize I've lost yet another day of exercising that I feel VERY bad about it? I wish that I could remember THIS feeling at 4:30 instead of the part of me that just wants to get all my errands done and come home. DH and I both felt bad about it tonight and committed to each other that we would get there 4 times next week but I know my WI Sunday will probably reflect the week of NO exercise. :( It seems when I get one part of my diet/exercise routine in a good groove. In this case I've been OP every day since going on WW Jan 3rd but the exercise has come harder to get into a routine for. Inspite of my goals and my brand new gym membership. If anyone has any suggestions for getting me MOTIVATED to use said gym membership I would appreciate it so much! :) On a positive note I picked up a blender tonight and I'm looking forward to finding recipes for healthy smoothies and shakes. We are expecting a snow storm so I stocked up on good for me goodies at the grocery store and the only chocolate in my cart were WW desserts and a box of No Pudge brownies - these are great by the way. :) Picked up soy crisps which I've never had but would be only about 1-2 points for 25 of them. Hope they are yummy! :)
Off to read some of your journals and check in on you all!! :flower1:

Hi there and welcome. :flower:

Is there a way you can go to the gym in the am? I know it is hard to get up early but I find if I don't go in the morning I find a ton of excuses not to go later on either. Especially if I have worked all day I am too tired to go at night. Just a thought. Have a good weekend. :flower1:

Hi Kaye,

My suggestion is to make an appointment with yourself. Write it down. Once the exercise becomes habit, you will find yourself missing it when you don't. You've got 1/2 of the equation down. Great job.
Have a great weekend,
Beth

kayeandjim00
01-21-2005, 10:49 PM
Thanks very much for the suggestions everyone. We would like to be able to go in the AM but I don't think it would be possible to do it unless I got up around 4:30  :teeth: I am going to try writing it in my planner and our planner at home with times and what machines I want to do so I can have more of a specific plan in mind and hopefully that will help me to stop making excuses as to why I can't and instead remind me that I should. ::yes::

For the weekend my goals are to

1. Get 4 fruits and 4 veggies a day. I saw that on another journal
and realized that the weekends are also where I fall off on the fruits
and veggies and don't get them all in so that will be my goal this
weekend - to be conscious of getting those in. ::yes::

2. 80 oz of water - I have been getting in around 64 oz but with the
lack of exercise I hope that extra work can help flush out a little bit of
weight so I'll show a loss at my WI this Sunday. ::yes::

3. Make A Specific Plan For Exercising Next Week I want to put my
specific plans in my planner to help remind me at work when I am g
getting ready to leave and feeling weak - hopefully having a set plan in
mind will help me keep that committment to myself. ::yes::

4. Do Something To Pamper Myself Take a bubble bath, do my nails,
spend some time just reading. Something to recharge my batteries
this weekend.

I can't remember which journal as I've been reading several tonight but someone mentioned that they just keep saying the weight they are hoping for the next week in their head when they are tempted. I'm going to try that - it sounds like a good concrete reminder of what extra bites over an entire weekend can do. ::yes::

Kaye,
Welcome to the WISH Journals! Tammy (PartyofSix) is such a wonderful inspiration, isn't she? She found a plan that she could work and she did it! I really admire your goal of wanting to run 5K. I wish I could figure out how to run, versus jogging in place (which is exactly what happens when I try to run! ) You and your DH should be SO proud of the changes you have made in your lives! I look forward to following your journey to GOAL!

Stay warm this weekend!

Hi Kaye,

I'm new to the WISH board, but I loved reading about your journey. You're doing a great job so far. I'll eventually get around to posting more of the specifics in my own journali, but I wanted to respond to your post. I am so impressed with your goals. I have gotten out of the fruit habit (love ice cream, too). Let me know if you have any good veggie recipes.

Running is really the best exercise, if you can do it. Yesterday I signed up to run in my 3rd 5K race. I ran the first one on my 41st birthday last spring. It sounds like you are on the right track, and it's great that you and your husband can do it together.

Keep up the good work,

Sherri

Hi Everyone :wave2: Thank you for the encouragement and for visiting my journal!! ::yes::
I've done well so far today - I've actually only had 7 points for the day but I know dinner is going to be a little points heavy (10) so I want to leave some wiggle room for snacks since we are pretty much in for the day with all the snow. ::yes:: And being home turns on the munchies in my mind  After breakfast this morning I washed 3 cups of grapes to keep in the fridge for that mindless eating I tend to do when I'm hanging out at home. I've eaten them all already! but I guess it's better to have 3 cups of grapes than 3 candy bars. :teeth: It has snowed about 13" here they say and shoveling out the cars this morning was quite the job! I'm a GA transplant and even though I've lived here 5 years it's actually my first big snow storm so I've had fun playing in it today. DH and I went over to inlaws to help them shovel but FIL already had everything by the time we made it over there with the awful roads in some spots. ::yes:: I was actually looking forward to the snow shoveling to get some extra exercise as it's taken care of here at our complex for us but I'm sure after about 15 minutes of shoveling my attitude would have been different  Trying to get in more water as I'm way short of my goal and way short of the veggie goal as well. Working on my plan of attack for exercise next week and will update later with that! Here's a pic of my DH this morning at my inlaws. The road was not yet plowed and at 5'5" it was up to my knees! :)

Hi Kaye,

I just discovered your journal!!! You have made soooo much progress since Sept. I know exactly what you mean about slips turning into weeks, etc. But you are back in the game and doing great. Running is addicting!!! One of the few addictions that are good for us ::yes::

BTW I love soy shakes, too! I make mine with Slender Soy, frozen berries and ground flax seeds. YUM! and only 3 pts.

Your snow picture is a great idea! In a few hours I can take one and you'd be hard put to tell them apart! Ours just started to get heavy. More shoveling. More APs. Yipee

Your weekend plan looks great. How's it going?

An idea for the 4pm gym excuse: At 7PM when you regret your decision, write yourself a letter reminding yourself how it felt at 7 to not have gone. Then, next 4PM, read your letter! Hope that's helpful :)

Hi Everyone :wave2: Thanks for stopping by my journal. ::yes::

Here's my weekend Goals progress :)

1. Get 4 fruits and 4 veggies a day. Saturday - Made this one!

2. 80 oz of water - Saturday - Made this one!

3. Make A Specific Plan For Exercising Next Week Saturday - Made this one!

4. Do Something To Pamper Myself - Well I didn't do any of the things I thought I would but I did just DIS all afternoon which was quite relaxing :)

As for today it was my WI day and I was down .8. Now I will remember this next week when I think "I don't want to go the gym" For me exercise is a MUST. When I don't my loss shows it. I NEED to remember this when I'm making excuses for not going. I did all the same things this week as last but my loss was only .8 compared to 3.2 - exercise is not something I can skip. I KNOW this but sometimes pretend I don't I think  :teeth: The good thing about that little .8 is it put me BACK into Onderland which is cause for a little celebration as it's been several weeks since I saw those numbers! :cool1: :Pinkbounc I did however make it there a year ago and swore I'd never be back... this time I am SERIOUS! :) No going back, straight forward to goalville. ::yes::

OK now on to my gym goals. Got this all worked out last night while watching a movie and I'm ready for a new week. :)

*Gym Goals for week of 1-24-05
1. Rain or shine/sleet or snow - no more excuses. If I can go to work I can go to they gym. ::yes::
2. Remember how I felt when I missed this week. And how great I feel when I step off that treadmill after a good run.
3. Remember my goal and how I'd REALLY like to get there by early July (Independence Day would be great! ) instead of early August. Extra Exercise=Extra Calories Burned. Extra Calories Burned = More Pounds Gone.

Tuesday 01/25/05
Gym Day - 1 mile run - balance of 30 minutes walking - lower body machines
Thursday 01/27/05
Gym Day - 1.2 mile run - balance of 30 minutes walking - upper body machines
Friday 01/28/05
Gym Day - 1.2 mile run - balance of 30 minutes walking - lower body machines
Saturday 01/29/05
Gym Day - 30 minutes on eliptical/upper body machines

I am now at 8.6/5 for the January Challenge and start the 2/14 challenge today so I'm 0/8 for that one. I'm seeing my dad and brother for the first time in over a year in Feb so I'd REALLY like to lose 8 more pounds by then. That would be great. :)

I've done well today! Need 1 more veggie and 2 more fruits before bed time so I don't know if I will hit that goal or not but have been getting in lots of water and staying OP. My goal today is to try to get in as many of my flex points as I can (shouldn't be too hard right? :teeth: ) I really haven't been eating too many of them but I know that won't always be the case and don't want my body getting used to the low end of my points allowance. ::yes:: I've still got 23 left so don't think I'll use them all up before bedtime but did use more of them than usual this week. I will have to start working more of them into the week maybe. I'm doing WW on my own and haven't been to any meetings and can't really find any info on APs. Is there anywhere that gives a good description of how they work and how they accumulate? And do most WWers use them?
I made a beef stir fry recipe from this month's Light & Tasty tonight and it was SO yummy! :) And 1 cup of stir fry with 1/2 cup seasoned rice was only 7 points and very filling. I will post the recipe on the Eating Healthy boards.

Kaye, way to go on the loss, getting back to Onederland and also doing so well with your weekend goals!

I have to tell you that I love, love, love the picture you posted! Living in Florida and never having seen a speck of snow I think that picture is absolutely stunning! I think if I woke up and saw that outside I would probably cry at the beauty of it. I know those of you who live there probably cry too but not at it's beauty! LOL

Hi Kaye!
I wish I did as good as you are with getting those fruits and veggies in! I admit - the fruit is the easy part for me, but I seem to keep falling shy on the veggies. I am going to keep trying!

I love those goals you have set out for yourself! Planning ahead will help staying on track just that much easier! I know you can do it! You've done so well!!

Hey There Kaye,

I love the picture. I love the snow, but hate driving in it.

You are doing an awesome job. Making the list of goals and planning it out will really help.

NOW for the important stuff! CONGRATULATIONS ON HITTING ONEDERLAND!!!!!!!!! That is awesome. I know that you aren't happy with the loss of .8, but it is still a loss and not a gain.

Keep up the amazing work,

Kaye:

I'm so glad that you have committed to being healthy and to journaling. I know I had my best success when I was posting my meals and exercise...need to get back to that as it really keeps me on the right path.

WW seems to be a good plan but quite complicated. Atkins is easy to understand for me - I now know approximately what is good and bad for me, but it makes it difficult to follow at times when I really want a nice piece of french bread.

Going to the gym is a tough one - I think with any exercise opportunity that you have to make it a habit. For me than means making it 5 days a week for nearly 6 weeks...unfortunately to get out of the habit it only takes a few days.

Best of luck to you and thanks for stopping by my journal. I will try to get by yours as much as possible!

Kaye--I love that you do a gym schedule. What a great idea! I think I'll do the same. I like to work out, but I don't always make it to the gym as often as I like because I think I can always do it tomorrow.

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Thanks so much to all of you for stopping by, I was so excited to see all my visitors :teeth:

Princess Michelle I'm a GA girl far from home so this snow is still new to me even after 5 winters I'm still a little amazed when I wake up to see a blanket of snow like Saturday. :)

Blueeyes101817 - This is my first week making such specific goals but I think that I'm a routine/list type person so I'm more apt to stick to something if I write it down (especially in public like here :teeth: ) I'm giving it a try and I'll let you know how it goes. ::yes::

geetey - The veggies are hardest for me as well. The fruits I could eat all day - but the veggies I really have to remind myself to get them in even though I like most veggies. I should get more raw easy to grab veggies to keep on hand. ::yes::

Strings - Thank you for the congratulations! :) I so HATE driving in the snow. And I'm awful at it. I try to do it as little as possible as I fear for my fellow drivers. :teeth: It's beautiful though on the weekend especially when I have nowhere to go and can just enjoy it through the window. :teeth:

LAinSEA - Thank you for stopping by my journal. I have told DH the same thing that for me going to the gym needs to become a routine just like being OP and making lunch before I go to bed at night. I know that my personality is such that once I'm in a routine I don't easily change it so I just have to stick with this long enough to get to that point. Thank you for the encouragement. :)

swilphil - I hope the gym plan will help you as well. Tomorrow is the test -day one for this week at the gym. I am doing everything in my power to not skip this week. If I had a meeting I wouldn't cancel just because I didn't feel like it and the gym needs to be the same for me. I know how exercise impacts my weight loss so I have to keep thinking those types of thoughts when I'm getting myself ready to head out tomorrow.

I'm going to try and post a motto for myself for each week. My motto for this week is going to be "I am worth the time it takes!" I need to remind myself that I am worth this time I'm taking out of other things I could be doing to take care of me and my health. My DH is so supportive and in that I'm lucky - he does everything possible to make getting to the gym easier for me and I need to take advantage of that and carve out this time for me to get healthy and get to goal! My body thinks it wants to camp out on the couch after work but after the gym it's thanking me for moving around after sitting all day at work. ::yes:: I'm really wanting to push myself beyond what I THINK I can do to what I can REALLY do! ::yes:: I hope that a 5K is just the beginning. ::yes::

Today was a good day I've been OP - need to get in one more water before bed. During the week I strive for 4 (16 oz) bottles and sometimes have to cram that last one in right before bed. I have had 3 fruits and 4 veggies today :Pinkbounc I'm going to be fixing a nice bowl of grapes for myself after this post so I'll be up to 4 fruits and then cap the night off with a WW Cookies and Cream Bar while watching 24. :) I'm striving for a 3 lb loss this week. It's aggressive but considering last week was small and I am planning to up the exercise this week I hope I can get there. :)

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Well I did it - I went to the gym and did everything as scheduled - :cool1: I even did a little extra. I did 1 mile at 3.5 MPH without stopping then did .10 at 4.5 MPH. I really worked up a sweat and felt that this was the best workout I have had since I started. I walked the balance of the 30 minutes and then did all the lower body machines. My legs felt like JELLO after that. But I felt so wonderful when I was done and felt so happy to have gotten one day checked off of my schedule. I was OP and even got in 80 oz of water today. The only thing that makes the gym harder I think is just knowing you have all your regular things to do when you get home - make dinner, make lunch for the next day, iron clothes, etc. Anyone have any tips for making that part easier? It really cuts into my DIS time too. :teeth: But I'll get caught up on the weekends. :)

Another day OP! :) I'm still up for the week (I weigh daily) but I have a feeling the Bloat Fairy is settling in for a few days. I will try to either drown her or workout so much she finds a more comfortable place to hang out :teeth:
Today was my off day and I'm glad as I'm VERY sore. Especially after a day sitting at my desk - seems everything got so stiff after a day at work. It's good to know those machines work though. :teeth:
Last night on a funny note I found the one thing that takes away my appetite... doing taxes :faint: It's the first time since I've been on WW that I didn't eat all 24 of them. After that I had no appetite and just wanted to go to bed.
Tomorrow it's back to the gym! :) Hopefully I'll get in all the things I scheduled and can report good things tomorrow. Have a great Thursday everyone :wave2:

Kaye,

Thanks for dropping by my journal. Your motto is great!

Suggestion for getting the veggies in is to make your dinner really veggie-heavy. I do lots of stir-frys, have veggie soup for lunch, etc. I also get in a lot of veggies by making a side dish out of sliced zucchini, yellow squash, peppers (green, yellow, and red) and sometimes a little onion or broccoli. Just heat a little olive oil in a wok, toss in the veggies and I season them with some Good Seasons Italian Dressing mix (about 1/3 of the packet). I don't know if you've ever had the veggie side dish at Applebees, but this tastes just like it and it makes me really enjoy eating my veggies.

Great job on the workouts! Does it help with the commitment when you realize you're inspiring others? A little positive peer pressure can't hurt any of us I guess.

Sore is good and bad, isn't it? Makes you feel high that you did something good for your body and makes you want to keep doing it so you aren't sore the next time but the actual soreness isn't so fun! LOL

Hi Kaye,

I have learned a new trick for veggies. I keep a batch of mixed veggies in the fridge and then add some to spaghetti sauce, pre-made soups, ect. Every little bit helps!!!!

I also recently discovered a way I can tolerate cauliflower. Boil it to "smooshy" consistency, then mash with some FF half and half, FF margarine and salt and pepper (other flavorings if you can think of them). Its very good. Personally, I'm pretty good with point veggies like peas, corns, winter squash, its the zero point veggies that I am training myself to like.

Taxes? Oh did you have to mention taxes :scared:

Keep up the GRREEEAAAATT work!!!!

Hi Everyone :wave2: I can't tell you how much it motivates and encourages me to visit my journal and read all of your messages :goodvibes: Thank you so much. ::yes::
Thanks so much everyone for the veggie suggestions. They all sound great and I'll be trying them out. ::yes::
Well today was good as far as food goes. Got in 4 veggies and 4 fruits :sunny: Had 80 oz of water and stayed OP. The bad news is I didn't go to the gym. I'm disappointed in myself but it was more or less a series of events. DH and I usually go together but I knew he probably wouldn't be going with me today as he had a big project he was working on and went in at 4:00 this morning and didn't leave until 5:00. :faint: So last night I was planning out my day and planning to go the gym right after work. Well to begin with I woke up this morning with a sore throat. Nothing terrible but noticable and uncomfortable all day and to top that off I'm walking like I'm a 100 years old  I'm SO sore - I knew I was giving 110% when I was there Tuesday but I'm starting to think 90% might have been more than enough. ;) I have such an awful soreness in my upper thighs - especially when I get up from sitting down or sit down. :faint: I am going for sure tomorrow - sore or not as I can't afford to miss another day. I'm disappointed that I won't get my 4 days in this week but partly think I did the right thing based on my soreness and not feeling 100%. What do you all do? Do you exercise through soreness? Do you give it a few days and go back to the same machines? I'm such a gym newbie when it comes to this stuff. :)
Additionally I have a diet LAND MINE approaching that I'm really starting to get panicky about. A week from Saturday we have dinner out with my IL's. It's a buffet place and I know what types of things to stick to but in my mind I'm thinking what if it's cooked in tons of fat and I don't know it :scared1: Any suggestions for a buffet dinner and the best choices that will cause the least amount of damage? Then Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday which is a party at my IL's where there will not be much in the way of healthy food :scared1: I'm taking some fruit but I know that I will be indulging in some of the once a year items that are there. Now on top of that - two weeks from today I'm going to see my family in GA. That means 5 days of not so healthy eating. Fried chicken dinners at my aunt's, cake at my grandma's, you get the idea. I have no idea what I'm going to do. In the past I treated vacation as a "do what you want - it doesn't happen often" but after the holidays and seeing how quickly this weight came back I'm terrified to get in the same prediciment. I need HELP - big time! :) Any suggestions would be so appreciated. I'm not sure what kind of plan of attack to have so I enjoy myself and don't spend every second thinking about food to the point where I end up binging but at the same time not throwing away all that I've done. I will take my WW books and count points as best I can but somethings I probably won't want to know the points for  :faint:
So that's today - hopefully I will have better news on the exercise front tomorrow. ::yes::
Thanks again everyone - your messages mean so much to me. :goodvibes:

Ok kaye,

Take a deep breath.

You did the right thing today. If you have a sore throat and sore muscles, you needed a rest day. I utilize the 2 day rule. If I know I'll be sore after a wokr out-it'll be worse on the 2nd day. I take 400mg motrin at night the day of and day after a super workout. You also shouldn't exercise when you are ill. I learned that the hard way.

What to do at a buffet...There is always a salad and soup. Start there before you hit the rest of the food. Go back to the table and eat that before filling a plate. This will help keep you away from the major temptations. Things that are usually safe at buffets are the roasted meats and shrimp cocktail. There is usually at least 1 veggie that isn't sauced, and usually baked potatoes available as well. Dessert can be fruit. Pineapple and kiwi are treats.

The SB MD wrote in his book, if you absolutely need to have something, try 3 bites. It will usually satisfy the craving without derailing our program. He is right.

As for your trip. Do the best you can. If you have to, stop by Wendy's on the way to grandma's for a salad. Have a piece of chicken without the skin. Is it a perfect plan? No, but there is only so much you can do. Worrying about it for 2 weeks will only stress you out, and you'll end up binging. Relax and enjoy yourself. You have all the tools you need to get to the weight you want. We'll be here when you get back, and Terry has a whip.

Have a good night,
Beth

Yikes! You do have a food mountain ahead of you!!!! I really like that "3 bite" idea. I think that will help you. Look for veggies everywhere!!!! Do the best you can, get your workouts in and don't sweat it. I'm sure you will get through just fine :sunny: You are wise to be preplanning your plan of attack!

Hi Kaye,

I hope your day is going well and you are feeling a bit better. We've all faced the challenge of buffets, parties, etc. We aren't always able to stay Op, but we do what we can. We also keep fighting, and that is what makes the differance. You will do fine. I have faith in you.
Have a great weekend,

Hi Everyone :wave2: I can't say thanks enough for all of your sweet and encouraging posts and advice. I think I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by being taken out of my "comfort zone" into the real world. I take a lunch to work and cook dinner at home every night since I've been on WW so what goes in my body is totally within my control (that's how I like it. :teeth: ) Going outside of these walls and the things I have prepared scares me that I might find it easy to eat all the things I know I shouldn't. I'm taking my food journal with me and I'm going to refer to it often to remind me how I eat at home. I know my Dad and brother ( who are of course skinny as rails  ) will have nothing healthy so I'll ask my dad to stop at the grocery store so I can get some of my everyday foods to have around. At least the meals that I can control can be healthy. ::yes:: They are completely supportive of me losing weight and are excited about seeing me (they've only seen a couple of pictures since I started this journey :teeth: ) and will think nothing of me turning down somethings in order to have healthier choices. It's my aunts and grandma that I worry about  I read an article I think it was in Self that mentioned saying "I'm not hungry" that won't hurt anyone's feelings and no one can argue how you feel. I'm thinking I might be saying "I'm not hungry" a lot. :teeth: Regardless of what happens - even if I fall hopelessly, completely off plan I know I will be back to WISH when I get back home and I can start all over again. ::yes::

Today went ok food wise - I was OP but didn't go to the gym. Yesterdays sore throat turned into a full fledged cold overnight and I was up quite a lot coughing and trying to breathe. I figured my fellow members at the gym might prefer I stay home with my germs :teeth: I didn't really feel up to it. Tomorrow's another scheduled gym day so I'll take it day by day and see if tomorrow is better and I feel ready to give that eliptical a spin. :teeth:

Thought I would post my menu today. By the way if anyone sees anything that looks wrong (points wise) or that I could do better with different choices by all means comment. WW is new to me and it's a learning process so I'm grateful for any advice. ::yes::

Breakfast - 1 Cup Raisin Bran with 1/2 C Skim Milk, 1 WW English Muffin with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter - 5
Mid Morning Snack - 1 Cup Grapes - 1
Lunch - 1 Turkey/Cheese Sandwich on WW with F/F Mayo - 3, 1 Apple-1, 10 Baby Carrots - 0
Mid Afternoon Snack - 18 Oat Grain Organic Pretzals - 2
Snack - 3 Imitation Crab Legs - 1
Dinner - 1 Smart Ones Chicken Carbona - 5, 2 Cups Green Beans - 0
Snack - 1 Cup Soy Milk Shake - 3
That's a total of 22 points and I'm supposed to have 24 so I think I'll have a WW Dessert now. :teeth:

Hope Everyone Is Having A Great Weekend :goodvibes:

Kaye--I hope you feel better soon. I think the key to getting through the tempting times is to plan as much as possible. I would just be upfront with your relatives and tell them what you are doing. Hopefully, they will be supportive. I've been in the same situation and just said what the heck and completely gone off the deep end. DON'T DO THAT. Do the best you can. If you have to have one "bad" food at a meal limit it to that, and get back on track at the next meal.

Hi Kaye,
I hope you feel better.

Your menu looks really good. Looks like you are careful to look for high fiber foods to get the most food for you point! That's what I try to do,too. And of course all that fiber is good, good, good!!!!!

I'm homeless :( I had my journal removed for now. I'm gonna lay low and then start a new one. In the mean time, I'll just have to hop from journal to journal until I get my own again!!!

You're doing so great - congratulations so far - I know you will hit your goal! Don't forget to be kind to yourself - espcially when you are not feeling well. At buffets you could just have lots of the salad to fill up, soups are great when everyone goes back for seconds and then treat yourself to a huge bowl of fruit at the dessert table! Good luck We'll be rooting for you!
PS - I like the "I'm not really hungry" line - I will use that in future.

This is my last full week before vacation so I want to work extra hard. I'd love to lose 3 lbs. It's been two weeks of tiny losses so I figure I'm due for a whoosh right? :teeth:

Another day OP! :cool1: Still not yet ready for the gym. If I can stop coughing I will be ok. I'm hoping by Wed to be back at the gym. I am hoping for a bigger loss next week with TOM out of the way so I want to work extra hard and hope for a HUGE whoosh. :) I had posted on another thread on the main board about Kashi cereal and I can't say enough how much I like it. I've been alternating between bagels and F/F cream cheese and Raising Bran with Skim Milk for breakfast but today I had the Kashi and was not hungry at all during the morning. I also took 1/2 a cup for an afternoon snack and it reminds me a little of cracker jacks :teeth: (I had the Kashi Go Lean Crunch). I'm looking forward to checking out the granola bars next time I'm in the grocery store as they sound very yummy. :teeth: I'm curious how others split up their points or calories during the day. Do you get more in the morning/afternoon and less in the evening or vice versa or is it 50/50. Lately I have been at about 11-12 points when I leave work and I get 24 so I have half left. Wondering if I should eat more during the day? I'm afraid when the night time munchies come I'd have a problem though. Input greatly appreciated. What do other WISHers do? :)

Kaye!
I am another fan of Kashi Go Lean Crunch. I just eat mine dry and it is great! I love how I don't feel hungry afterwards. My friends tease me that it is because I just ate cardboard and twigs, but I don't care. It works for me. Have you tried those Kashi bars Melanie mentioned? I am almost afraid to try them because they sound that good!

As a WWer, I typically use 3-5 points for breakfast, then 5-8 points for lunch, so the bulk of my points are remaining for dinner. I just haven't gotten out of the 'big' dinner mindset. We don't have BIG dinners - but I do use more points for dinner. I hope that helps! It certainly works for me. :)

I hope you continue to feel better!

Hi Everyone :wave2: I'm feeling so much better today and I'm actually excited that I'm going to the gym tomorrow. I made myself a new CD from walmart.com and I am all set to blast new tunes and burn calories tomorrow. ::yes:: Since this week may be my last time at the gym till after my vacation I'll concentrate solely on cardio as the strength training has gotten me so sore lately I could hardly move the next day  I'll get back on a schedule with the strength training when I get home. ::yes:: So my goal for tomorrow - run 1.10 miles at 3.5 and then .10 at 4.0 mph. Then 30 minutes on the eliptical. ::yes::
I'm going to visit my dad in Georgia not the mouse (this time! :teeth: ) I haven't seen him in over a year so he has only seen a couple of pictures of the "new" me :teeth: The work in progress pictures :) This will be an emotional trip as the Sunday I'm there will be the 5th anniversary of my mom passing away  and I know the week is going to be full of highs (seeing my family) and lows (acknowledging the worst day of my life :() and trying to be there for my dad. I seem to have the ability to be very strong when I need to be but then gravitate to "self medicate" with food when I'm alone but I hope to replace that with running in my old neighborhood this time. I know the running will help more than another piece of cake or cookies. ::yes::
I have been OP with 4 points to go today and Terry I picked up the granola bars  today! I'm almost scared to eat one  I'm sure I'll have a new addiction. :teeth: I'm going to have one tonight so I"ll let you know what I think. :)

Hi Kaye,

I love Kashi cereal! I think its the combo of high protein and high fiber that keeps you from getting hungry so long. I'm glad you are feeling better and excited about your new CD. I'm always so excited when I have a new playlist to listen to :Pinkbounc

I hope your family trip will be a really good one and even though you will have the sadness you will have the joy of being with your family and can focus on the positive memories of you Mom. When self-medicating, turn to exercise FIRST!!! It might do the trick without having to derail your weightloss efforts. If you feel the need to medicate with food, try all the alternatives FIRST, the "me" time, bubble baths, etc. and if you really need the food afterwards, well then have what you need :grouphug:

Thank you all so much for the support :grouphug: It means so much to me. Your posts brought tears to my eyes and I'll think of them next week when I feel overwhelmed to remind me food won't make the feelings go away. :goodvibes:
OK about the Kashi Granola Bars! OH MY GOSH! :hyper: They are so yummy! Granola Bars (http://www.kashi.com/golean_crunchbars.aspx?SID=1&Category_ID=50&Link_ID=80&) Over the past two days I have had both the chocolate peanut butter one and the caramel one! They are so good! I highly suggest them and I have the lemon one waiting for me to try next. :)
I got DH the higher points ones that are bigger I can't think of the name but they are a different line than the crunchy ones - I put it in his lunch today and the first thing he told me today when he got home was how good it was. :teeth:
As for the exercise  I somehow talked myself into not going. I have really got to get myself in gear. I feel like I have tried everything - writing it down, leaving out my gym clothes so everything's ready when I get home, it seems no matter what I do I find a reason not to go. I was sure the gym membership would cure the excuses but alas it hasn't happened. I know I have to make it a routine - once that happens it will be natural to me and I won't think twice about rather to go but I'm struggling right now with getting to that point. I'll keep at it though and know I'll get there soon. ::yes::

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Well another day OP! :cool1: Got in my waters, fruits, and veggies and I'm feeling good about my weight it seems to be on a downward trend - FINALLY! I am a scaleaholic and weigh when I wake up and go to bed and log it in my food journal just to get a sense of the patterns my weight takes. So far I've liked being able to go back and look to see what my weight normally does between Thursday and my weigh in on Sunday for example. No exercise today but had some errands so today wasn't a planned day. I think part of my mind is already in vacation mode. I know that when I get back from my dad's I've REALLY got to get serious with the exercising if I want to get to my goal in mid summer and belive me I do!! To add to the dieting landmine I have spoke of on occasion the past week I found out tonight that we are going out to dinner on Tuesday night for an annual steak dinner with friends for "Fat Tuesday". We've done it for years and I totally forgot for some reason. The choices are steak and steak  so I guess I'll be having steak. :teeth: I'll just do my best and cut calories and points where I can (like the bread basket). Have to keep a positive attitude and remember that life happens and I can choose to pig out and go off plan or have something that might not be the best for my plan but not overdo it. The next week is going to be a true test of my willpower. Wish me luck :teeth:

Hi Kaye--There's nothing wrong with lean steak. Only eat half of it and take the rest home. Have a salad and some veggies too. You could also opt for chicken or fish. There are tons of steak places around here, and all of them have non-steak items.

Another day OP! :cool1: I got in all my waters and fruits but only had 2 veggies . Will do better with that tomorrow. ::yes:: I have officially decided to change my goal (for now) from 144 to 149. At 149 I will officially be "normal" and I think that's a good goal to work towards and then decide if I want to go further. So overnight I am 5 lbs closer to goal  I was so proud of how our healthy living has really taken hold when I was grocery shopping tonight. I have always heard you shop the perimeter (sp?) of the store as that's where all the healthy foods are. Well tonight I went down only ONE aisle other than the organic one. I like seeing my cart filled with things that I can eat and not worry about. Tonight the cashier actually asked if we were vegetarians (fish, veggie crumbles, etc.) we told her no and she said that we must eat mostly organic though which I guess is pretty much true as of late and I was proud of our progress over the past few years when I stopped to think about it. I have found organic foods to really taste SO much better. I got an organic spaghetti sauce to try last week and it is phenomonal! I like knowing I'm making a point of eating foods that are better overall for me. The cashier also mentioned we must really like Kashi Granola Bars  I don't even know how many of them I bought  They were low on all of them so I bought most of the ones they had. I am stocking up so I can take them on my trip as well. I thought that would be a great snack for when the pretzals and soda come around but much more filling. :) Well those are my musings for the day. Still no exercise but I am just going to commit to myself that when I come back I will work on that part as well. I know I need to do more than change my eating patterns and if I want to run that 5K I have to start moving. :) Have a great Friday night everyone. :)

Congrats on being 5 pounds closer to your goal!!! :rotfl: Woo-Hoo!!! As for the point distribution throughout the day - I try to have just under half left for dinner and snack. I am a scaleaholic, too! It has really helped me figure out how different foods affect my body, but I have to be careful not to let that number determine my mood for the day! It sounds like you are doing great, though! :cheer2: I will be praying for you as you go home next week! Hi Terry - The Granola Bars are really good. There are two different kind and I like the "crunchy" line better but DH likes the other ones better so I guess it's a matter of taste. :) I think they only make 3 different ones of the Crunchy line - a lemon/lime one, a caramel popcorn and chocolate one, and a peanut butter and chocolate one. I haven't tried the lemon/lime yet but the other two are fabulous. ::yes:: I actually saw some at Target tonight and stocked up on the peanut butter and chocolate as my grocery store only had one of those left yesterday. They must be popular as I was looking around the Kashi site and noticed in their store that those were backordered until 2-18. Glad I got several today. ::yes::
Today was to be the buffet dinner but alas it wasn't too be. I only got a temporary reprieve but with weigh in tomorrow I'm happy with that. :) We got there at 4:00 with FIL and the line was all the way to the entrance  It's a "seat yourself" place and with no open tables it would easily be an hour wait. We decided to come back on Monday night for dinner. I had a good plan so I'll just use it then. :) I've been OP today and actually have quite a lot of points to use up as I was saving most of them for dinner tonight and the dinner I cooked (spaghetti with veggie crumbles and f/f spaghetti sauce) was only 8 points. That's always a nice problem to have :teeth: Again no exercise but I did shop - does that count?
Tomorrow night is my first real test since starting WW - A Super Bowl Party! Wish me luck. I know I'll have things I dont' normally eat now but I'm going to try and keep it sensible. I have all my flex points so I should be ok. :)
Have a great Sunday everyone :sunny:

Those Kashi bars sound good, I'll have to try them out! I know what you mean about the Super Bowl tomorrow. It's going to be a rough day. My husband has to work till 10:30, so I'm taping it for him so we'll watch it when he gets home and I plan on making us some food in honor of it, like a taco meal and some potato skins. I'm going to work out extra hard tomorrow and the next day to make up for eating such bad food late at night:)

Hi Everyone :wave2: Sorry I've been MIA this week. It's been so hectic and I have just had no time to post. I leave tomorrow for my trip to see my dad which I am looking forward to. :) They (my brother and dad) have only seen pictures of my weight loss but none of the rest of my family knows about it so that should be fun to see their reactions. :) I have had a lot of eating "challenges" this week from the Super Bowl, to a buffet dinner, to a dinner out with friends lat night. I was pretty happy with how I did. Not perfect but definitely not too bad. Today I've been OP and I plan to do my best while I'm on vacation but not to stress about slip ups. ::yes:: And I'll be OP and exercising with a vengenace when I return. :teeth: Have a great week everyone! See you next week! :wave2:
