Julie!!!! You know me so well! Yes, as I sit here with a 20 oz cup of hazelnut coffee w/skim milk & sweet n low. When I am done this, I will have had 40 oz of hazelnut coffee, probably 10 oz of which was decaf and the rest hi-test. Getting ready to switch over to water. I had 80 oz yesterday and am aiming for that again today. I've noticed my skin is very, very dry this winter but marginally better when I am getting my water in. :cutie:
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk
L: LC panini; veggie soup
S: pretzels
D: turkey chili over green salad; veggie burger w/kechup, pickles & ff cheese on lite MG EM
dessert: WW fudge bar; FF popcorn
As of 7:10 pm I've had 60 oz water.
By 10:30 pm -- 76 oz water.
Heading out to the gym now, since i won't be going tomorrow night -- we are going to the theater to see "MARATHON".

Today’s WI – 1-7.5
Geez, why does it surprise me that after being so on-plan for 3 days and exercising 3 nights in a row, my weight is actually UP today? I should be used to this by now. I am definitely NOT a walking advertisement for exercise as a pounds-lost facilitator (where is that “shaking her head in disgust smiley?”)
Hoping that 1.1 pounds will fall back off by tomorrow a.m.
I think I may actually have to increase my daily caloric intake about 200 calories to continue to lose. I remember a few months ago, I was having a hard time getting any movement on the scale until I started eating MORE (healthy foods, though) and that helped.
I think when I get home tonight, I will cook some whole grains to add to my mostly protein & veggies & fruits menu. I know I have barley and whole wheat couscous & brown rice at home, and easy to prepare. I think if I add those things back in to the tune of about 200 calories a day worth, it may help. Definitely worked some magic when I went to WW core plan a while ago.
We are going to see the “Marathon” movie tonight, so I am packing my own popcorn and will buy diet soda there. I may even take my dinner with me or eat it in the car on the way, so that I am not tempted to splurge at the concession stand.
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; lite multigrain English muffin w/1 sl FF cheese
(planned)
L: veggie soup; green salad
S: turkey chili
D: LC panini; 94% FF popcorn

Hi Cam :)
Quick question...are you tracking your weight daily? weekly? I only ask this because I also keep track of my weight...I weigh myself with every trip to the fitness center (3-5 times per week). I've found that it fluctuates so much on a day to day basis, that it's better for me to just take a monthly average and compare that data with previous months.
Seems that I can eat everything in sight and stay the same or actually lose weight...then I can eat totally healthy and go up a couple pounds....but my overall average each month has consistently dropped. I think a lot has to do with water weight.
Anyway, just some food for thought. I KNOW you are going to fit into that smaller dress size...keep your chin up :)
Have fun tonight at the movie!! Give us a review when you get a chance :goodvibes:

Thanks, Stacey & Scott!
Scott, yes, I do step on the blasted scale every morning. Fortunately, it weighs to the tenth of a pound, so there is often satisfaction even for the tiniest bit of loss, and it helps to minimize the disappointment, too. LOL! I really "only" count the Tuesday morning weigh ins and that is what gets logged in my weight watchers etools. Fortunately, I have seen 5 pounds dropped since January 1 and I am really hoping that the 4 week mark on Tuesday will show a continuing downward trend that will have made all the effort this month worthwhile. :thumbsup2
I will definitely be back with a movie review tomorrow. I have been looking forward to this since my race partner, Rhonda, sent me an email with a link to the website. We live in a VERY small town. I will be curious to see whether we recognize anyone in the theatre, especially from the local races we've done and from when Howard did the Delaware Marathon and the local 1/2 marathon. :cool1:

Hi, everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. I can't ever remember being this swamped before. I brought in a HUGE new retention that had been in the works since before marathon weekend. I found out Friday night about 8:15 and have been working non-stop ever since, including 16 hours in my office yesterday.
I did get to the gym Friday night for an hour and Sunday night for an hour, but have been stress-eating everything in sight, including last night when I got home at midnight. UGH!! I have to get this under control. Fortunately, the scale numbers aren't skyrocketing, but I really have to learn to not eat when I am stressed.
I know I am suppposed to start my Minnie training this week. I am hoping to start carving some time out.
Thanks for all the good WISHes and positive vibes! I really appreciate it! :grouphug:

Thank you so much, everyone! I am beginnning to panic already about the Minnie 15k. I just took on this huge case and haven't been able to get to the gym since Sunday night because I've been working such long days (some as long as 16+ hours). Now, we have another case proceeding on an emergency track that will consume my time through at least 2/25. I just don't want to get to the end of February and feel as badly as I do about having wasted January, as far as weight loss and workout efforts go. UGH!!
I stress-ate again last night. None of it unhealthy in and of itself, but the volume was outrageous -- a WW pizza (8 pts!!! and it was NOT worth the points), a WW salisbury steak dinner (5 pts), 2 small pieces of cod (3 pts), some organic hash browns made with pam spray (~3 pts). Can you imagine? 19 points eaten after 8 pm? I hadn't had breakfast and had a LC panini and popcorn for lunch (9 pts total) and an apple and a pear (2 pts). How ugly is that!!! 30 points!
Back on track today. But here it is 10:25am and I haven't even had time yet to figure out breakfast. I think I might have an apple in the fridge. :rolleyes1:
It will be another weekend of working constantly (except when we go to the beach 2 hours away for the polar bear plunge for special olympics).

Keep hangin in there, Cam! Minnie - 10 miles? You could do that in your sleep by now!!!! No worries about that... you CAN DO IT with no problems!!!!
Polar bear plunge......brrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! But fun!!!!!! If I were there, I'd probably jump in , too!
I totally understand the food issues....here, too. Some days I really do think we're related!
Have a good weekend & DO NOT overdo!!!!

Okay, so now it's 12:15 and I STILL haven't had anything other than coffee. I am SOOOO hungry. :rolleyes1:
I now have a teleconference for 1 and another for 2:30. As much as I hate to do it, I may have to impose on one of our staff to pick up lunch -- only if anyone is going out in this torrential rain. I think I have bouillon cubes in my drawer if no one is going out. :lmao: Yes, I usually do have food in the freezer, but I think our cleaning people share my fondness for LC panini. ;)

Well, I got to the gym Saturday for an hour and then worked all day until DH and I went to Davids for me to try on wedding gowns. He was just an absolute sweetheart and loved the outing. I was so distressed to learn that working so hard to get down to a "normal" size meant next to nothing when you try on wedding gowns. I had to go up 2 1/2 sizes!!! I had really thought I'd be able to pick any style I wanted because of the size I normally wear, but bridal sizing limited my choices on some of the designers. I left there elated to have found several that look nice enough if I don't find something else, but really depressed about being back in a size I thought I'd said goodbye to forever. I am hoping to really buckle down to lose more and somewhat quickly so that when it is time to order my gown, I'll actually have some idea of what it might look like on me.
Today has been completely controlled:
B: coffee w/skim milk; pear, banana (4 pts total)
L: 2 small pieces baked cod; mixed (frozen) veggies. (6 pts total)
Hoping to be able to stay 'good' when I get home.

Good job getting to the gym this weekend :thumbsup2 .
Don't worry about the wedding dress sizes. I think the whole thing is a ploy. My wedding dress was from the 1940's, but I can remember getting fitted for bridesmaid dresses for friends weddings and always having them order a dress two sizes too big. Low and behold the dress comes in and literally falls off of me and I get to now pay $$$ for alterations! This has happened to me at least twice. So hang in there and don't worry about what the bridal store size says.

You can lose some more lbs before more wedding gowns! You still have quite a while to pick something out. I don't know you're plans, but I'd say for sure you have a couple months. I was told mine would take a while and actually bought it before I got engaged and it came in within two weeks! Go figure!

Good morning, everyone! Well, after feeling like death warmed over for the past several days, I am starting to feel a bit better. Last weekend, I kept telling Howard I felt achy and tired and my joints hurt. I did the polar bear plunge for Special Olympics Sunday and afterwards felt so shivery that I couldn't warm up. I slept all the way home from the beach (2 hours). Worked a long day Monday and by 1 am Tuesday, was downstairs on the couch with terrible stomach pain and all-over body aches. Felt sick and got up to head to the powder room and fainted. Got up and barely made it to the bathroom where I got so sick that I can't even remember the last time that happened. At some point, I woke up on the floor of the powder room, too weak to call upstairs to Howard or to get up the stairs and obviously having passed out again. Scary. I was home from work sick all of Tuesday and Wednesday. Came in to work yesterday but was horribly sick all day and avoiding all human contact. I feel much better today.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday the scale dropped 6 pounds! It got back to normal between yesterday and today.
I haven't been to the gym since last Saturday, but last night I started my 100 crunches & 100 pushups/day self-challenge again. So, that's one day down and a kazillion to go! ;)

Thank you, sweetie! I figure I'll try on gowns the weekend of 2/22-24 but probably won't order until May, maybe right after Minnie weekend, so that I can be sure of what size to order. I think even if I only drop another 10 pounds, it should make a difference, because I am so short. My only concern is that I might find my dream gown and then find out that it is discontinued by the time I go to order it. That would be a nightmare!

Thank you so much, Tracey, Tracy & Beth! You guys are the absolute best! :grouphug:
We had such a nice time at "RENT" last night. Afterwards, we met the actors who played Roger, Joanna, and Maureen, all of whom were just fabulous. I was concerned the kids would be disappointed because it would be so different from the movie and the movie soundtrack, but they were just blown away. The cutest thing happened. Jenn was watching one of the members of the "chorus/swing" who was really, really cute and I kept giving her the binoculers every time he was on stage. Well, he then plays the drug dealer, and I go "Oh great, Jenn, your new boyfriend is the drug dealer!" And she starts giggling and going "Oh, NOOOOO!!!" Andrew goes "Nice choice, Jenn." and does the rolling his eyes thing. (I love the interplay between them and it is somethign I will really miss when Jenn goes back to campus tomorrow. :sad1: Well, afterwards, as we were leaving the theatre, I told Howard that Jenn thought the guy in the chorus/swing who ended up also playing the drug dealer was so cute and he goes "hmmmm. . . positive cash flow. THAT's not a bad thing." And we were all cracking up, walking down the street to the car and he tells her he is just trying not to be too critical, trying to look at the bright side. :lmao: It was just so much fun.
So, after being up until nearly 3 am, I was up at 7:15 and went to the gym for 2 hours. First hour on the TM I had a very exciting new PR -- 4.35 miles!!!!! :woohoo:
Second hour was a relaxed bike ride -- 9.35 miles.
Overall calories burned -- 728
Wedding gown shopping is in 2 weeks. Started doing my 100 crunches and pushups again on Thursday, though I'll have to make up for yesterday's since it was just too late, by the time I went upstairs, to do them.

Thank you, Tracey! Actually, I posted pix in my wedding planning journal on the DIS Disney brides forum at page 10, in case you want to see them.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1659796&page=10
I am still looking for advice on what style people think looks good on me. On page 12 of my journal are the two dresses I hope to try on in less than 2 weeks.
I couldn't get to the gym yesterday. It was a busy, productive day. Took Jenn grocery shopping, then we drove up to NJ to meet a friend for lunch and I got some cute new pieces at j.jill. Then home to send Jenn off to campus. Then in to work for a few hours. When I went home, I was determined not to sit in front of the computer or tv. So, I did 2 Leslie Sansone workouts -- walk & jog and walk & kick. With stretching, it was 70 minutes of me being on my feet instead of my butt.
Of course, after having pfchang's for lunch and then eating dinner very late after my workout, the scale was UPPPPPP this morning (2.2 pounds. UGH!!! ). Oh, well, I'll just have to work harder and not eat so late. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for looking, Stacie! I am so glad you like the two that I like best. When I try on the second set, I won't be posting pix because I don't want Howard to see them (and he is ALL OVER my PJ. ) I really want him to ultimately be surprised by whatever gown I choose and even what styles I narrow it down to on the next go-round, so when it comes right down to finding "the one" I won't post them on the DIS but will be soliciting opinions via PM. :lmao: It was so much fun to try on gowns for him and to see what he liked. He was so complimentary about how everything looked on me but was critical of some of the dresses -- "too plain" -- "not bridesy enough" -- "nothing special about that one". I think whatever I ultimately choose, he will love, but it's nice to hear his ideas. Interestingly, he loves #1 of the second set, even though I don't think it was originally anything like what he expected me to look at. When we spotted it in a bridal magazine he said "you HAVE to try that one on." That dress still makes me swoon! :faint: I am desperately hoping for the opportunity to try it on. :lovestruc

Good morning, everyone! Thank you all for your very kind notes!
My friends Judy (honeibee) and Kathy (Valentine) are coming next weekend to go gown shopping with me. I am really excited because I never got to do that the first time around, and I really value their opinions so it will be great to get advice on the various gowns!
Tracey -- I thought about the corset back, but am worried about having a "muffin top" around the back of my dress! ;) Certainly something I'll have to focus on during my workouts this year.
Nothing else is new on the fitness/weight loss front. I am still up and down within the same three pounds. I seem to have this whole "maintaining" thing down pat -- LONG before I have reached the number where I should be maintaining!
I know exactly what the problem is. Late night eating in volume. Last night, I did move upstairs with a good book as soon as I'd finished what I'd planned for dinner and dessert. It's funny --there were girl scout cookies and 2 kinds of chocolates and reese's peanut butter cups all on the counter and I splurged on pretzels. :confused3 I am convinced that if I could re-program myself to eat a very reasonable, filling dinner and nothing after that, I'd really see the scale drop.
Okay, this is my challenge to myself. When I get home from the gym tonight, I'll eat a lean cuisine and some veggies and nothing else. I'll be curious to see how many days I can sustain this behavior.

Thank you, Tracy! It was a crazy busy weekend, starting wtih a 16+ hour workday Friday. Howard was so sweet and brought me dinner around 8:30 and stayed with me until I was finished, which was after midnight and drove me home. :lovestruc
I am really driving myself crazy with the uncontrolled eating. This is definitely "mental". Friday, it was because I was so stressed and "deserved" junk food. Saturday, it was "well, the farmers' market is only open Fridays and Saturdays and I won't get back here for at least 2 weeks, and I really want jambalaya AND gumbo, so why shouldn't I have it?" Yesterday, it was "well, we are with friends and they have all this food prepared for us, so I am just going to enjoy it and worry about the scale later." Last night at the chinese buffet with friends, it was "I've never been here and look at all these foods I've never tried before. yum. I'll get back on track tomorrow." I am so mad at myself and all I can do is get back on track today. I really can't figure out why I am being so compulsive. :confused3 Even when I am doing it, it isn't mindless eating. I am very aware of being out of control and yet, I am not pulling myself back. I know it is all a matter of willpower. I just HAVE to get myself under control.
I packed food for lunch and pre-gym dinner today. The only thing I can try to plan is NOT to eat at all after the gym. I'll let you know how it goes.
Tracey, shall we commit to each other to be totally controlled tonight? I'm pretty competitive, but not so much that I can't abundantly rejoice when I and my co-challenger both succeed. :cheer2: Are you with me on this? Here we go -- day 1.

Julie and Tracey-- Thank you for the sweet compliments to Howard. He really is just incredibly wonderful. I just can't believe that after more than 25 years I love him more every day. :lovestruc
Tracey -- I hope you were able to sustain your good behavior last night. ;) I didn't have time to eat before I left the office, so after the gym I ate an apple. When I got home I made salad for today and also cooked steamed mushrooms & onions, barley, whole wheat couscous, and 2 tiny sweet potatoes. I ate the 2 baby sweet potatoes and steamed mushrooms & onions over whole wheat couscous. No other snacks! :woohoo: So, I think we count Monday as a victory for both of us, right?
Last night I didn't have much time at the gym. I did TM 60 mins 4.19 miles (447 calories). Speed was an issue but I did gradually raise the incline for the last 20 minutes from 3.0 to 4.0 to 5.0. The calorie burn increased significantly with each increase in incline. I also did 25 minutes on the bike 4.35 miles (136 calories)
Total since Friday -- 85 minutes; 8.53 miles
This Saturday is wedding gown shopping at the Demetrios salon. I am so excited!!

Oh, Tracey, sweetie! I am so sorry I wasn't here to support you!! I had a MAJOR crisis at work. I mean MAJOR!! I am just dreading going in there tomorrow knowing it is still hanging over my head. But you poor thing! Chocolate? :scared1: I am going to go check out your journal and see if you got past the craving. Sending you huge hugs, hon!
Caryn -- Thank you for coming to visit here! I know I am so lucky to be part of the WISH team. I just don't know what I would without my journal buddies and the WISH race team. They've gotten me through a 70 pound weight loss, 2 full marathons, 3 half marathons, 2 15ks and many 5ks. They also keep me motivated to train year-round! :grouphug:
You should check out the events/competition board here and check in on the weekly training thread. You'll love it there -- everyone is so warm and welcoming!
Not much time for the gym tonight -- work crisis meant Andrew and I didn't get to the gym until 7:45. UGH!
30 minutes elliptical - levels 3 & 4 -- 2.32 miles -- 305 calories
30 minutes bike --levels 5 & 6 -- 5.1 miles -- 169 calories
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk
S; apple, WW yogurt
L: whole wheat couscous w/steamed veggies; green salad
S: apple
D: steamed mushrooms & onions over whole wheat couscous and a green salad with some shredded turkey breast; 3 oz baked cod (unbreaded) (I was craving protein)
I am not eating anything else tonight and calling night 2 a victory.

Thanks, Julie. Unfortunately, the fallout from the crisis will be huge and around for a long time. I am so fried and so sick of dealing with problems created by others.
I am totally needed comfort food today. So outrageously stressed. Needing to find my happy place. I just wish there were something I could do for our DFTW vow renewal to distract myself, but alas, must work instead.
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; pear
L: salmon fillet, whole wheat couscous
S: 10 pistachios; 94% FF popcorn; banana
D: 2 vegan patties w/fat free cheese on lite multigrain english muffins; whole wheat couscous; 1 svg fat free mini pretzels
Howard is taking DS home from school today which means I should be able to get to the gym tonight. I think I really need that stress reliever, especially if I am going to keep up with you, Tracey & Julie, on the no late night or volume eating challenge. So far, I am 2 for 2. I am hoping today/tonight doesn't do me in!

Hey Cam,
I wanted to thank you for the kind words on my journal. My WISH sisters are the absolute best!
I can totally relate with the compulsive eating that you are now controlling. Wayt to go for being 2/2. Can I join you on the challenge. I struggle with night time snacking.
I hope the fallout from the crisis isn't too horrible. Remember, you are only one person. There is a limit to what you can accomplish in a day.

30 minutes elliptical -- 2.16 miles -- 285 calories
30 minutes bike --5.2 miles -- 140 calories
Dinner was 2 vegan patties on lite EMs with fat free cheese; a little whole wheat couscous & a serving of fat free mini pretzels.
I am done eating for the night and calling it another victorious day!

Thank you, Stacie! My journal and WISH friends are really, really helping me to stay motivated.
I really wanted to TM last night but my right ankle has been bothering me. I am pretty convinced I need new shoes. The support in the right foot seems to be angling my foot in a weird way and I just can't seem to tie in the right way to get it secure. So, I figured I shouldn't do the TM in those shoes. Hoping my back-up pair are in better shape for my LR this weekend.

L: barley w/beef broth; green salad w/3 oz salmon fillet
D: barley, 1 chicken nugget, 1 pierogie, carrots, 3 oz baked salmon fillet; 3 oz baked flounder fillet
dessert: weight watchers 1 pt chocolate cake

I am having such a bad day. I can't even stand myself at this point. I was supposed to go wedding gown shopping with two friends this weekend, but it looks like the weather will prevent them from travelling. And I won't be going without them. The weather has put me in the position of being at work without staff, doing secretarial stuff that I can't bill my time on and being totally inefficient and overwhelmed.
I just ate half a donut.
Food today:
B: apple; coffee w/skim milk; 2 multi-grain low-fat eggo waffles dry
S: 60 calories worth of low fat, sliced turkey breast; 1/2 donut; lemon tea
Several of us in the office are ordering in lunch. I restrained myself to a roast beef & swiss on whole wheat with pretzels. What I really wanted was egg salad on a potato roll with cole slaw on the side & chips & a brownie (this is what someone else ordered; it took a lot NOT to say "make that 2"). Unfortunately, none of this will make a wedding gown look better on me. I really need to get past being so down today. And I really need to stop scrounging for more food that I really don't need to eat.

Tracey -- you have NOTHING on me, sweetie. Totally blown weekend as far as food, starting with eating too much of the wrong things Friday night at a charity event, then Saturday night hanging out /"celebrating" with friends after wedding gown shopping, and panera & then cheesesteaks yesterday. So outrageously stressed working last night until after midnight and the next few days will be hell. My stomach is so sick today after over-indulging this weekend. UGH!

I can't believe I found FOUR gowns I LOVE! I am going back in 2 weeks to try on my dream gown, that only 2 salons have; the manager of this salon is having it shipped in for that weekend so that I can try it on. :yay: PLUS there are 3 more the manager said she thought I'd like that I'll also consider. I can't believe I won't have to "settle" for anything. Any of the four we narrowed it down to on Saturday would be so wonderful!

Thanks, everyone for your support. Work has been more stressful than ever in my career. I vacillate between not being able to eat anything for fear of it not staying down, to stress-eating everything in sight. Surprisingly, I am still the same weight as a week ago. :confused3
cross-posted from my planning journal on the DIS brides forum:
Work has been so busy and stressful that I haven't had much DIS time! :sad1:
First, I wanted to say what a GREAT time I had trying on dresses with Kathy and Judy. They were so supportive and non-judgmental and honest and I didn't feel self-conscious at all about being undressed in front of them. That is a HUGE deal for me. Our bridal consultant at the Demetrios Salon at Macy's Cherry Hill was so sweet and helpful and very, very patient. We ended up being there more than 3 hours!!! I don't know how many dresses I considered and how many I tried on but Kathy and Judy think close to 20! Kathy is involved in the theatre so she spent a lot of time under my skirts, straightening and tugging! LOL! Judy helped me maintain modesty, being in charge of the panel you can insert in the back of a dress to cover your skin so you can go out to the pedestal/mirrors. It was SUCH a positive experience that I absolutely intend to buy my gown there.
When all was said and done, we had 4 gowns that we all really liked on me. I have pix of me in them and will email the link if anyone wants to see. Just PM me your email address. :)

Hope you're having a great week!

03-06-2008, 09:44 AM
Wow! You guys are all so wonderful and so faithful. :grouphug: Thank you so much. I have been beyond overwhelmed and just not coping well. The stress at work has been beyond compare and there is so much going on with our friends that I feel like I should devote all of my time to being there for them, which I just am not in a position to do.
I think I've unofficially dropped out of the Big Loser challenge (I just haven't had time to visit the thread and have "forgotten" to weigh in this week) and one of my spark team DIS teammates is taking care of the March exercise challenge for me. Those are the types of responsbilities/commitments I normally love because they help me stay on track and provide fellowship opportunities and lots of support and encouragement. Alas, I am of no help to those groups right now and I am viewing the commitments as additional layers of stress instead of in the very positive way they should serve.
Unfortunately, my stress eating has been out of control and even the thought of trying on and probably ordering a wedding gown this weekend has not been motivation enough for me to get my butt in gear. Sunday night was the first night I'd slept in a week and since then I have only been doing marginally better. Usually I am so good at coping with stress and though I may vent, for the most part, most people can't tell how stressed I am. Monday night, however, my friend/partner walked me to my car, really trying to urge me to let him drive me home or to the Y but I told him I was fine. I ended up crying all the way to the Y and pulling over to try to pull myself together before seeing anyone. Last night a friend sent me an edible delights gift to cheer me up and I was an hysterical mess on the phone with her when I called to say thanks (love you, Carrie! ). By the time I got off the phone with her I felt so much better. I think I need hourly Carrie fixes in order to stay "up" and motivated, though, and I just HATE being so needy and high maintenance.
There are so many things in my life I can't control right now. You'd think I'd seize control of my eating. And I really think that getting back into a training routine (especially with the Minnie 15k being only 8 weeks away! ) will help.
This morning's breakfast was coffee cake that I didn't need and should not have eaten. I have to get back to logging my food and exercise and really thinking more about it. And I HAVE to get out of this funk. :confused3
Thanks for letting me vent. I'll be better soon. I'm sure of it. :thumbsup2

I do hope that the stress at work can decrease soon. I am worried about you. Are there any yoga classes at the Y? Maybe some quiet time(and non-trainingfocused time) would help you center. I understand what you mean about controlling your eating, because the rest of your life is out of control. I am struggling with this too. I am trying to just focus on a day/an hour/ or a minute at a time.

Wow! You guys spoil me rotten with your support even when I have been so woefully absent from here.
So much has been going on that has kept me away. I have been outrageously swamped at work -- more so than ever in the 18 years I have been practicing law. It is quite draining and makes for long days, late dinners & late-night stress eating and no time for the gym.
This past weekend, we flew to Denver on Saturday night, drove almost 3 hours through a blinding snowstorm to Beaver Creek, CO (arrived 3:15am our time, 1:15 am CO time), attended my dear friend/partner's wedding on Sunday night, and left the resort at 10:15am on Monday morning--arrived home Monday night close to 11pm. I had congestion symptoms while there but have been really sick with every cold symptom above the neck imagineable since we got back. ICK!
Went to the gym last night but my equilibrium is off because of the congestion, so I rode the recumbent bike for an hour and that was it.
My weight yesterday morning was up exactly 10 pounds from when I was at the lowest adult weight ever. I was so frustrated with myself. Just a day of drinking lots of water, eating the right foods, and an hour of exercise brought me down 2.3 pounds, so now I am 7.7 away from my low point. I NEVER want to be at this number again, and I really, really NEED to lose a significant amount before I go for wedding gown measurements/ordering in May.
Thank you to everyone here who provides so much love and encouragement. I really, really appreciate you guys so much! :grouphug:
Oh, and for those who have asked, here is a link to my shutterfly album showing the wedding gown I have chosen:

Okay, it's a relief to see the scale moving down now that I am drinking lots of water and eating less processed foods. Down 3.9 since Tuesday, which just convinces me it was from our "vacation weekend" and sodium. Now that the water weight is gone, I have to persist so that real weight will come off.

Thanks, everyone! Happy Easter!
I am working from home most of the day on taxes but will have to go into the office later to prepare for an emergency hearing tomorrow.
I am still so sick with this blasted cold and can't hear out of my left ear at all. The sneezing has subsided but the coughing is worse (court should be fun -- lots of cough drops). I feel so wiped out from being sick for 8 days. UGH!
Back soon, hopefully with a more positive attitude. :grouphug:

Oh, I'm sorry you're sick--and at this time of year, when you have so much work to do with the emergency hearing, you're planning so much for the VR, and you're getting back on top of everything. :sad2: I hope you feel better soon.
On a much lighter, brighter note--that dress. Oh, my! You're glowing in the pictures. And everything about it just screams YOU and your relationship with Howard (here, I'm thinking of the bodice, but I don't want to be more specific in case Howard reads your journal). You two are very blessed to find each other.

Thank you, everyone, for your good wishes for my health. :grouphug: I saw my doctor last night. One of the first things he said (I ADORE him!) is "I'm sure you have a marathon scheduled sometime soon, so let's figure out how to get you healthy!" Isn't he darling? I did correct him and tell him it is a 15k and it is early May, but this is impacting my training tremendously. :sad1: Anyway, my cold symptoms are better. The congestion is still bad but the worst of it is that I can't hear out of my left ear at all. I don't quite understand all the medical stuff, but my ear drum is retracted and the eustacian tube (?) is not functioning. There is a lot of fluid in the inner ear which is why I am so dizzy all the time. There was some other stuff he said but I don't remember. He gave me a nasal steroid spray, mega oral steroid (he had me take the entire first day's dose of 6 pills last night all at once), maximum strength sudafed, and direction to chew gum constantly, except when I am sleeping. He is concerned that if the pressure in my ear is not relieved soon, the eardrum will rupture. If the steroids & decongestant don't help by the beginning of next week, he will have his office get me in to my ENT on a quick basis.
Sorry that was so long!

On to the things that are important for this journal. I am concerned about the fact that I have been eating compulsively and that I am up about 7 pounds still from my lowest adult weight. I really want to get back on track and try to lose this last 30-35 pounds. There are certain events we go to every year and I find myself being very resentful that each year I am STILL doing WW when I go to these events, and yet I have not met my goal weight yet. I really think I need to get on with my quest and finish it up.
So! I am going to a new WW meeting on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. and am determined that I am going to start and maintain a downward trend and just keep it rolling. A fellow DISer and Disney bride to be lives nearby and goes to my gym, so we are going to come up with a schedule that works that gets us both to the gym together a couple of mornings a week.
Here I go!

Thank you, Tracey! Howard is unbelievable and truly the proof that God answers prayers in a really big way! He spoils me rotten with his love and support. I told him this morning that I am going back to WW and he said "you know I think you are absolutely perfect and I love your curves, but I will support you in anything you want to do." :cloud9:
So, tomorrow morning, I'll do my fresh start at weight watchers. Friday, I am meeting my fellow DIS bride at the gym at 6:30. I am sooo excited to have found a workout partner. I am hoping I dont' bore her to death! ;) I'm psyched that she is going to teach me how to use some equipment I've never had the nerve to ask about -- the rowing machine and some upper body equipment. And hopefully I will motivate her in some small way to repay the favor. :cutie:

Thanks for the warning, Tracey! My back is still fragile from when I tore my middle trapezoid muscle (?) in September and went through physical therapy into mid-December.
I went back to WW this morning. The last time I was there was 7/3/07 and I was up 4.2 pounds. That's 8 1/2 months. Glad that I only gained 4.2 pounds but it is a trend I am determined to halt. It's time to get serious and get this finished. Just like a marathon. The reward is at the finish. There is a lot to be gained along the way in terms of discipline and strength but for me nothing will be as satisfying as knowing I finished what I set out to do.
As of this morning, I am 32.6 pounds away from my goal.
Today's food plan:
B: coffee w/skim milk; multi-grain light english muffin with ICBINB spray & 1 slice fat free cheese (2)
S: fresh cut fruit (2)
L: huge lettuce & tomato salad (0); can of solid white tuna in water (4); lite popcorn (1); diet Dr. Pepper (0)
S: celery w/laughing cow light cheese (1.5); WW cheddar twists (2)
D: LC panini (6); baked potato (11 oz before cooking) (4)

Thank you so much for visiting, Amy! I fear I have been a terrible WISH journal buddy these days. Today is literally the first non-deadline day I have had at work since I took on a huge case on 1/25 (except for 3/17 when we were flying back from Colorado!) My equilibrium is still off because of my inner ear issue and I can't hear out of my left ear at all, so I am disappointed that I might not get a LR in this weekend. :sad1: I am going to be an optimist, though, and plan on a 5:30 am outing to the gym this Saturday. Once I get there, I'll have to see how things go as to whether I can TM at all.
Thank you so much for the compliments on the dress! I still go look at the pix on shutterfly every day. :lovestruc I just can't believe I will wear something so exquisite and I just can't wait to see Howard's face when I do! Of course, I'll have to make sure I don't do the typical taper-weight-gain in the weeks leading up to the marathon/vow renewal weekend! ;)

Sorry to hear you haven't felt well and about the ear. I've been constantly struggling with fluid in my ear and I can feel when its there and the Dr.'s always say if I go in to early that it looks fine. But yet I know the fluid is there because I get the vertigo, probably the "dizziness" you are feeling. I've had vertigo spells for years now though since I was 20-21 when the first occured for a whopping 8 days straight. I've had them as long as 10 days but I have gotten to where I can function through it. Thankfully its not around that much anymore. But interesting they say its your tubes. All the tell me is take this blah blah blah.
I find that claritin helps a lot with the ears though when I take it because the itch like mad so much. They've been bother me the last couple days again but my insurance ran out in Feb. AHH!! I had a nice dry stretch of no problems after the last time they gave me some pretty strong antibiotics. I found one in the bottom of my purse(the last dose too) that I totally forgot to take and forgot all about. I really need to see an ENT again though for the problems over the last year and half I've had well over a dozen ear infections, often double. :confused3 I will have to look into this tubes stuff, I was suppose to have tubes put in my ear when I was little but the chiropractor of all things really improved them and so my mom never scheduled it. I didn't have many problems with them(my ears) until the last few years.

03-28-2008, 07:17 AM
Oh, Melissa! I can't imagine suffering those problems chronically. This has been bad enough and it has been only about 13 days of this.
Last night went well. I split my WW cheddar twists and ate some while my dinner was cooking and then the rest before bed. It took care of my need for a snack before bed in a very controlled fashion.
The great news is that my workout buddy and I spent an hour at the gym this morning and it was so much fun! We had a great time chatting and she showed me how to use some new equipment. :thumbsup2

Food Sunday was a disaster. I did really, really well until mid-afternoon when I started snacking. I never ate the "real" lasagna I made for the family (I made a fat free, whole-wheat noodle version for me) or any of the garlic bread, but I did munch on leftover bread from cheesecake factory Saturday night (we never should have brougth it home; I should have acknowledged I'd be the one to eat it and should have left it on the table at the restaurant). After dinner, I ate some of the kids' Easter malted milk balls and then 5 points worth of weight watchers desserts. UGH!!

THank you Tracey & Julie! I wish I hadn't blown it this weekend. Then I'd have cause for being proud of getting back on track last week and staying on track. I can't believe I used all my flexpoints this weekend and have a deficit of 3!! Pretty bad, huh? Still hoping that walking the straight and narrow until Thursday morning will result in a loss on the scale. I'd LOVE to set a goal of losing SOMETHING every week and never going up, but I have learned that my body doesn't cooperate that way and my weight can spike by a couple pounds overnight for no reason at all. Still, it would be SO NICE to get on a downward trend and keep it going. I really have to stop obsessing about the scale, though!!
And yes, Julie, looking at the picture of the gown takes me off into la-la land, daydreaming about marathon weekend and the events we are planning. So much fun!!!

Thank you, Tracy!
Started today at the gym again. I know I need to start getting in some major miles on the TM if there is any chance at alll of finishing the Minnie in the required time, but I feel like the more trained I am the more likely it is work commitments will keep me from going. I am such a pessimist. Here is how my mind is working --"It would be just my luck to be perfectly ready and NOT be able to go" and "It would be just my luck NOT to train and then to find that I can go." I am hoping to know in the next few days whether I will be joining the WISH team for Minnie weekend. Until I know for sure, my sadness and frustration about my lack of control over work commitments is overriding everything -- my training, my attitude, my ability to interact with the friends I may or may not see in 4 weeks, etc. It is beginning to hit me really hard and make me really depressed.
Food plan for today:
B: coffee w/skim milk (1); weight watchers breakfast sandwich (4)
L: green salad w/grilled chicken (4); multi-grain roll (4)
S: rice krispie treat (3) (this was a long-lusted-after treat that was planned for. ;) )
D: brown rice & corn & salsa; lite english muffin w/fat free cheese (5.5)
dessert: none

Okay, so I just ate a rice krispies treat and I am glad to say that I didn't do it becuase I was stessed or bored or because I "deserved it" or anything like that (my usual excuses). I ate it becuase I have been wanting one for a couple of months and could afford the points today because I didn't do a morning snack and won't have anything after dinner. Tracey - Actually, I am really frazzled about it because it's not just about the race, but also about seeing some friends that I won't see again until January if I don't get to Orlando for Minnie weekend. :sad1: AND it is so hard to get motivated and train without the motivation of the race. I also have a TON of stuff I want to take down for the vow renewal and put in the owner's locker, and it would be great to take care of that over Minnie weekend, too.

Geez, I absolutely cannot believe how many points I ate yesterday! It didn't feel like I was eating that much at all. The overeating last night really was the result of hunger and didn't feel out of control at all. I just have to get a handle on that and use some smarter choices to address late day hunger. Of course, it didn't help that I didn't get to make dinner until after 9pm. I am learning some important concepts at my weekly WW meetings and am looking forward to continuing to implement new thought processes and behaviors with more success, hopefully getting better each day.
I was at the gym by 6:30 again this morning. I only used the elliptical and the bike, since I am still sore from my 8 miles Sunday night and the strength training yesterday morning.
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk (.5); apple (1)
L: grilled chicken on whole wheat wrap w/lettuce, tomato & mustard (7); diet soda
S: popcorn (2)
D: green beans (0); LC pot roast (4); lite MG english muffin (1); 2 fat free hot dogs (2)
dessert: pretzels (2); WW choc raspberry bar (1)

I am really disgusted with myself. AGAIN. Last night's food list posted above looks bad enough, but I know there was more. I don't know what was wrong with me yesterday. I was ravenous at lunch time and ate more than I needed. Then, I had the opportunity to get home at a reasonable hour and cook for DS, who wanted hamburger helper. So, I broiled a large steak for me and DH and ate 1/3 of it. And that really should have been all I ate. I really wanted to be good, eat a sensible dinner and not eat anything after 7pm in the hopes of having a good weigh in this morning. Instead I binged and ate and ate and ate. Oh, now I remember what else I ate -- about 4 points worth of fat free pretzels.
When I stepped on the scale this morning, it was up 3 pounds from yesterday morning and I KNOW a lot of that was because of the outrageous amounts of sodium in the pretzels and the hamburger helper. But it was also the result of my binging. Just pathetic. So, I chickened out and used my no weigh in pass at WW. I thought it was more important to go to the meeting than to skip it because of my fear of the scale.
The meeting was helpful. The third part of a 3 week series on "Triggers". We've explored
1. food as triggers. It turns out that some foods that should be green light have become red light or maybe yellow for me, because I tend to overeat, perhaps because I have to get through my head that even healthy foods should not be eaten in overabundance.
2. emotions as triggers. I thought I ate mostly out of "stress", but learned that is an umbrella emotion probably made up of some combination of anxiety and frustration and worry in my life. But the reality is that stress is not really present at home at night when I am really binging and so the overeating at night might really be more habitual and perhaps, even some boredom or avoidance.
3. environment as trigger. Although going out is a dangerous situation for me, I have demonstrated I can order the right things in restaurants when I make the effort. And I have definitely controlled my environment at work to only have healthy foods in the fridge and in my credenza drawer. I even have almost exclusively healthy foods at home. So the issue isn't the foods in the environnment being the trigger, but more likely the emotions I feel in that particular environment. In fact, I do get home, breathe a sigh of relief and think "I deserve to relax now and eat whatever I want" and I have formed the HORRIBLE habits of eating at the kitchen table while reading a book OR eating at the computer. These are the habits I must break in order to NOT sabotage my efforts every single night.
So, I've decided to take some steps and make some commitments to myself. We started an 8 week goal challenge at WW today. It is almost 8 weeks to June 1 (when the WW week started Sunday, that was really the start of the 8 weeks). We had to write down a goal to reach by June 1. I wrote down 3:
1. I want to be below 1__0 by June 1 (down into the next "decade" -- as of this morning, that is 11 pounds, but more likely about 8). It shouldn't be hard to do.
2. I want to be comfortable (physically and mentally) wearing a pair of blue island print capris I bought last summer. This will require time at the gym and good eating, but also getting over a mental hurdle about people looking at this "fat girl" and thinking I shouldnt' be wearing such cute clothes
3. I want to make it to every single WW meeting between now and then and not skip any out of fear of the scale.
Now, the plan for how to meet those goals:
1. I bought a 3 month journal and I intend to journal every bite in it, regardless of what I've eaten, how many points it is, and even if I don't have time to journal on line. I am going to put it on the island in the kitchen when I get home and I am going to write down every bite I eat each night.
2. I am NOT going to read a book while I eat at the dinner table.
3. I am NOT going to eat in front of the computer.
Those are my goals and my strategies for getting there.

One of the realities that hit me coming in to work is that I really want something substantial to eat at every meal. In the form of a sandwich or a salad topped with good stuff. In order to do this and stay within my points, I am going to have to plan carefully. And I have to be willing to NOT use many points for snacks if I want to have them available for meals.
The first thing I did this morning (besides buying the journal) was to stop at walgreens and bought english muffins; low fat ham (lunchmeat) and ICBINB spray. I can do an english muffin w/ham & mustard & my morning coffee with skim milk every day for 4.5 or 5 points and hopefully that will hold me until lunch. Lunch can be a LC panini (usually 6 points). That still leaves me half of my daily points for dinner & snacks. I hope to do this for a week and re-evaluate next Thursday to see how it works out.
Food today:
B (at ~8:30 and my stomach is growling like crazy before 11:30 -- UGH!)-- english muffin w/3 slices low fat ham; coffee w/skim milk
L: baby carrots; LC santa fe rice & beans
S (pre-gym): apple
S (post-gym): WW one-point bar
D: 4 oz steak; italian style green beans
Dessert: vitamuffin brownie
Okay, so far so good. I didn't eat with a book in front of me or in front of the computer. DD is visiting from campus and we had a nice chat during dinner. :lovestruc
Activity today: bike -- 60 minutes -- 10.53 miles -- 332 calories
keenercam

Food went really well yesterday, and I ended up with a 5 point surplus, including 3 I earned at the gym last night.
Food today:
B: 2 egg whites; english muffin; 2 slices light ham; coffee w/milk
L (business lunch at a really nice restaurant): multi-grain roll (no butter); caesar salad w/lettuce, tomato, parmesan & grilled chicken (no dressing); coffee w/no cream; no dessert; no macaroons.
D: LC panini; italian style green beans
dessert: LF popcorn
As you can see, my lunch notations are more about what I passed up, rather than what I ate, because it took a tremendous amount of control and I am really proud of the choices I made in a situation that could have been disastrous. Yay me!!! :yay: :woohoo:
Activity:
30 minutes elliptical -- 1.93 miles -- 286 calories

Beth -- You are such a darling to be so encouraging. I am so glad I was able to share my epiphany from WW with you. It was definitely an a-ha moment for me to realize that an environment could be a trigger because of the emotions we feel there. It felt SO GOOD to be cognizant and in control last night.
SO, I am THRILLED to know you'll be joining me in this 8 week challenge. I can't wait to hear what you think of your meeting tomorrow morning. i will check out your journal to see what you bring away from your meeting, since every leader is differnt. Way to go. :thumbsup2 Its motivating to read others keeping on plan. I suppose I should take more time to read all the motivating journals here. :)
I would love to get to doing Disney marathons. Maybe when I get moved closer to Florida. I'm looking between Tennessee(where Zoe's dad is) and Florida for a move this summer, so won't be long. I'm working to build back up to 15 min mile walking so I can start increasing distance before I start adding some jogging as I get more in shape.
Those ellipitical machines are hard for me. I think I finally figured out a pace that wasn't making my legs so sore in minutes but I was proud I lasted 15 minutes on it. My legs were sore for a few days after. That is some work out, so anyone that can get on there for 30 minutes is my hero. :) :thumbsup2

Thank you Jen and Beth!
I am really frustrated though I am not letting it impact on my forward progress. I realized recently, after the WW meeting on triggers, that my stress is often either frustration or anxiety or both. And I have often allowed my frustration at lack of progress on the scale trigger bad food choices. So, I am working on being very cognizant of these tendencies and to overcome those behaviors. Right now, my frustration at a total lack of movement on the scale is enough that I might make bad food choices. Instead, I am trying to muddle through this plateau and continue to make good choices DESPITE my frustration, rather than bad choices as a result of my frustration. :goodvibes I am resigning myself to the fact that I just might not see a loss on the scale at WW this week, notwithstanding that my rings are loose on my fingers and my clothes feel a little less constricting. ;) Just going to "keep on swimming" as my old WISH friend Jen used to say. I miss that girl!

I know I keep repeating myself, but you're doing just great! You're paying attention to your eating and how it needs to change (i.e. eating something substantial every meal), keeping track of things, exercising, paying attention to your triggers (and you have a LOT to be stressed and/or anxious about).
I totally understand your frustration about the weight loss. You're doing all these good things, and you're not seeing the scale move. And although you are seeing how your body responds--with the rings and clothing--it's small comfort when you see others weigh in who are losing weight but not working as hard as you are. (In terms of exercise, at least.) Remember, though, that you're an athlete; your body is much more efficient than theirs, more toned. (You may not believe it some days, but it's true.)
You just keep doing the good things you're doing, making those healthy choices every day, and soon the scale won't be able to resist your efforts & willpower! :cheer2:

Debra -- Thanks. Well, I think you are probably right, since I have been getting unprovoked compliments left and right about how I am losing so much again so fast. And yet -- the scale was UP .5 this morning! How ridiculous, right? I really do appreciate the encouraging words.
Last night, I decided to use all my daily points and 3 out of 4 of my activity points, just to see if a high-point day (26) might shake up my body a bit. Apparently, it made no difference other than that the scale was up .5 probably from eating the last bits at close to 10 pm. I'll get over it. ;)
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; sesame bagel with scrape of cream cheese (this is something I have been wanting and had been avoiding, but figured one time this week of a heavy-point breakfast after an hour at the gym is no big sin, especially since it won't be a problem to stay within points today)
L: green salad;small grilled chicken breast; english muffin; weight watchers 2 pt pretzel crisps; peanut butter granola bar
S: lite popcorn
D: brown rice w/shrimp & chicken & diced tomatoes (DARN! this did not taste enough like jambalaya! ;) ); whole wheat pasta w/diced tomatoes & fat free ricotta; tastes of "imposter"/free cole slaw
Activity today:
30 minutes elliptical -- 2.42 miles -- 321 calories
30 minutes bike -- 5.56 miles -- 169 calories

Hey Cam,
 I think the gain was related to sodium. You had a lc and hot dog at dinner. You were probably retaining some water. It will just be that much extra that comes off in the next week. Have you tried the WW cream cheese. THey are in a box of 6 or 8, and individual portions. It is enough for a bagel, and is pretty darn good. Bonus is they are portable.
Keep up your great work.

Beth -- I hadn't seen nor heard of those yet! I'll have to look for it. Although the smart thing would be to buy some fat free cream cheese and keep it at work. But that is one of those things that just does NOT taste the same in the FF version. I'd rather use barely a scrape than to switch to FF. Though I don't anticipate eating it again anytime soon. I actually felt kind of slow this morning, so I pushed the level up to 5 and then to 6 thinking that if I was going to spend half an hour on it, I might as well maximize calorie burn. I am hoping to know definitively next Tuesday. I am really hoping to be there to meet you and to see your medal at the finish line. Will you be at the WISH meet on Saturday?

Started today with a very exciting discovery -- the scale was down a whole .7 pounds!!! Yippee!!! Just so funny. That is IT since I re-started WW on 3/27. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks. So, I am actually hoping that maybe my body will start to cooperate and the scale will budge. :confused3
Went to the gym this morning and did 30 minutes elliptical and 30 minutes bike. I pushed the elliptical level up to 6 the whole time so that even though my mileage wasn't as high as yesterday, the calorie burn wasn't too much less. I also put the bike level up to 7 and 8 so that the calorie burn was a bit better, too. I am still taking it kind of easy because of the lost toenail and bits of trapezoid pain. Trying to be very careful not to sustain any kind of injury or pain in the event I am able to get to the Minnie. Still hoping that I will know for sure next Tuesday. I'll do a long training session in the wee hours of this Saturday morning.
Food today:
B (pre-gym): coffee w/skim milk; lite multi-grain english muffin w/ICBINB spray & 1 slice FF cheese
B (post-gym): apple; more coffee w/skim milk
S: WW yogurt
L: green salad; 2 oz whole wheat pasta w/chopped tomatoes & red pepper & 1/4 c. fat free ricotta; WW cheddar twists; celery & 1 laughing cow light cheese wedge
S: WW peanut butter bliss bar
D: LC panini
S (at the theatre): WW chocolate crisp bar
Looking at the food plan,I see I definitely need more points, so I may add something to lunch so that I can keep things light later today in anticipation of weigh in tomorrow morning.
Something interesting happened last night. I was thinking about dessert, a snack, etc. and was logging all my food from dinner (which was kind of a hodgepodge of different stuff I wanted to use up). I realized I only had one point left for the day and suddenly, my appetite for anything else just disappeared. Seeing it all laid out in my journal, and writing it all in, and doing the point subtraction flipped some switch in my brain, like "okay, Cam, you had as much food as you were entitled to and you aren't hungry, so why put another single point in your mouth? You can just stop now and know that you were in control and won't that feel better than anything you'd eat?" Yes, my mind actually thinks that way! :rotfl: So, I didn't eat anything else. And I was up for about another 3 hours. Wow! 3 WHOLE HOURS without food. Aren't I just the cat's meow? :lmao: Seriously, every once in a while you need to feel totally in control. ;)
I am thinking it's about 6 weeks until wedding gown ordering time. I really want to show up at that appointment knowing I am in better shape and a smaller size than I have ever been in my entire life (I am already the smallest size I've been since middle school; now it's time to be the size I am supposed to be!)

Well, the scale finally moved!! Down 2 whole pounds at WI this morning. :yay: The meeting was great, too. It was all about activity and it looks as if the leader and I were the only ones in the meeting who exercise pretty consistently. When I looked at my journal, I had one hour of exercise 5 days this week and another day of significant amounts of walking.
My goals for the week:
1. Use only daily points and activity points each day -- we don't have anything on the calendar that I can anticipate will present a points challenge, so I think I should be able to do this.
2. Take the stairs in the garage each morning
3. Exercise at least 6 days -- I am promising myself that if I do 8 miles Saturday morning, I will allow myself to have a small jambalaya for lunch and a small gumbo for dinner. These are my cravings every single weekend since I found a restaurant at our farmers market called Cajun Kate's, where the food is so outrageously flavorful and satisfying. Instead of doing a medium jambalaya and a small gumbo for lunch (like I have done previously), I will still allow myself both, in small portions, on a day when I will have earned about 8 activity points. Very do-able.
Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; regular english muffin w/half ham steak
L: garden salad w/grilled chicken & croutons (lunch out with a friend); cut fruit
S: garden salad w/half ham steak; pretzel crisps; lite popcorn
D: 2 oz whole wheat pasta w/asparagus, tomatoes & onions -- DELICIOUS!
dessert: WW 2pt bar
Activity -- 45 minutes on the bike while DS was at boy scouts. 9.2 miles -- 290 calories

Thanks, everyone! It has been such an up and down kind of week. Monday was the 3 year anniversary of my Dad's death and my Mom died 16 days later, so there is this sense of foreboding about that upcoming anniversary, too.
Having the girls' weekend away to look forward to is really helping me cope with a lot.
Catching up on yesterday's food:
B: apple, vitalicious muffin, coffee w/skim milk
L: garden salad; multigrain roll; quizno steak sammie; baked lays
S: tilapia
D: 1/2 kashi mushroom pizza, cole slaw, pretzel crisps
dessert: ww 1 pt bar, cookies

I really need to get out and do 8 miles today, but I have an incredible sinus headache, my left ear is really muffled and aching, and my neck hurts. Besides all that, I have a voracious appetite and the start of a PMS migraine. ICK! I'll probably head to the gym soon and just try to crank it out on the TM.
Food for Saturday:
B: panera multigrain bagel w/ 2/3 serving lite hazelnut cream cheese; ice water; coffee w/skim milk
S: egg beaters w/ham & veggies (very hungry)
during workout: marathon energy bar
after workout: flat out wrap w/ham & turkey & coleslaw
D: whole wheat pasta w/veggies
dessert: a couple pretzel crisps; weight watchers cookies & cream ice cream bar
Activity for Saturday -- TM 120 minutes -- 8.51 miles (811 calories)

Thank you, Jen & Tracey!
Well, I dragged myself to the gym yesterday, with some new videos and music on my ipod, knowing I needed to do 8 miles. I told myself every bit more than 4 I did in the first hour meant that much sooner I could end in the second hour. Did 4.38 in the first hour (burned 430 cals) and knew I only needed to go to 3.62 in the second hour. I was feeling a bit woozy and finished my powerade and ate most of a marathon energy bar in order to convince myself to start the second hour. Worked pretty hard and when I got to 3.62 I just kept going. It felt really good to push myself. Did 8.51 miles and burned a total of 811 calories.
I truly believe God gives us what we need when we need it. As I was finishing my first hour the young woman on the next TM was finishing her run and cool down and said I was "blowing up" the speed. She complimented me profusely on being able to walk that fast. It was the boost I needed to push it in the second hour and not wrap up early. :woohoo:
Back later to log food.
Food Sunday (another very hungry day):
B: egg beaters w/peppers & FF cheese; multi-grain english muffin
L: green salad w/feta cheese & grilled chicken; multi-grain roll; vegetarian chili
D: 1 1/2 turkey wrap w/laughing cow cheese; french fries; peanuts
Activity:
20 minutes floor & ball exercises:
100 crunches
100 push ups
hydrants
mule kicks
straight leg lifts

My workout buddy & I started the couch to 5k running program today. I have always wanted to run the entirety of a 5k and I did it once - on October 14 of this past fall. But during that race I injured my hip and I think it was really because I wasn't accustomed to running that long. And my time ended up being about the same or slower than if I'd walked. UGH! So, the plan is to train to jog a 5k by June 22 which is the end of the 9 week program. From then, it will be a matter of "training up" to jog the entire 1/2 marathon in January. And I'll have 6+ months to train to do that. It won't be easy, but it's nice to have the goal to work toward.
Food today:
pre-gym: coffee w/skim milk
gym: water
post-gym: banana; coffee w/skim milk; multi-grain bagelful (3.5 pts because it is multi-grain; really good and satisfies the "bread" urge in a healthy, portion-controlled way)
L: grilled chicken; asparagus; broccoli; garden salad w/FF feta
S: lite popcorn
D: tilapia; boiled shrimp
dessert ( ) -- 2 nutrigrain LF waffles; WW ice cream bar; WW 1 pt raspberry bar; doritos; lite lays chips; pretzel crisps
Activity:
bike -- 20 minutes -- 3.45 miles -- 100 calories (slow to baby my sore leg/hip muscles from Saturday's 8.51 miles! :cool1: )
Couch to 5k W1/D1 20 minutes including warm up + 4 minutes cool down -- 1.53 miles & 160 calories
20 minutes upper body strength training.

You're such an inspiration; I truly believe people can see your strength--it emanates from you.
And how exciting that you're starting C25K with a goal of progressing to the 1/2! I'm working on a similar program with the full (started in January); I find having that kind of deadline helps. Even if I don't reach it, the journey will be interesting. KWIM?

Thank you so much, Debra! I really appreciate the support I find here and just adore my WISH friends who take the time to visit my journal and post.
I keep thinking that even if I am still not able to run the entirety of a 5k by June 22 or if I have to repeat some weeks of the program and have not finished it by then, I should still be better off than I am today. At least right now I know I can do the intervals and if I HAD to do them for the entirety of a 5k, I could. I'd LOVE to be able to do intervals for the 1/2 marathon even if I can't "run" the entire race.

YIKES!! I was almost completely out of control after dinner last night and grazed endlessly on junk food. Thank God there isn't anything really "bad" in the house. I think I really needed some whole wheat pasta or brown rice or something at dinner and because I didnt' have it I was too hungry and hormonal to be in control afterwards. I thought I was pretty clever cutting a weight watchers ice cream bar off its stick and putting it between two nutrigrain low fat waffles for a nice treat. But once I'd had something sweet, I "needed" something salty and ate doritos crumbs (I like the tiny pieces in the bottom of the bag). I also grabbed 4 pretzel crisps and a serving of lite lays chips. Then I went to bed to read. I had to come back downstairs to get my workout clothes out of the dryer to set things up for this morning and I told Howard I was hormonally driven to eat. :lmao: He said "no more eating" and went to turn on the computer. I grabbed a weight watchers one point dark chocolate raspberry bar from the freezer and he came back in, looked at me with his kidding around exasperated look and said "I thought I told you NO MORE EATING!" I offered a bite, which he generously declined. Then he generously told me to go to bed and he'd take care of the laundry. What a sweetie! :lovestruc
I've told myself I won't step on the scale until weigh in on Thursday because I know I'd be so frustrated. At this point, my weight could be up as much as 4 pounds and I really don't want it to derail me, and even though I know it is cyclical, seeing a high number really does discourage me. I do have to be good today and tomorrow so that the damage on the scale Thursday isn't any worse than necessary.
Went to the gym this morning and just did an hour on the bike while reading and then talking with my workout buddy. Having it done early in the day really is great.
Activity today--
Bike -- 60 minutes -- 10.38 miles -- 308 calories
Food today:
B: multi-grain bagelful, small apple
S: vitalicious muffin
L: 2 multi-grain english muffins (lite) w/lite turkey & laughing cow cheese

Food today:
B: multigrain bagelful; coffee w/skim milk
S: apple
we are having a luncheon today to celebrate administrative assistants' day, so I am not sure what I'll be eating later. My goal is not deprivation, but control. :lmao:
L: ham & 1/2 slice cheese on 1 slice of bread; lettuce, tomato; green salad w/5 craisins & 3 almonds ( ;) ); pickle.
Okay, I am giving myself credit here for NOT eating chips, NOT eating brownies, NOT eating chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin OR sugar cookies. UGH!!! Too many temptations. I finally left the conference room where the food was set up. I hope our staff finish the chips. Those are really calling my name today. :rolleyes1:
S (5:15pm) -- vitalicious banana nut muffin (my dear friend Martha was talking about the banana nut muffins she made last night. I am sure this didn't come anywhere near close to the deliciousness of hers, but it was only 1 point. LOL!
D: tilapia; broccoli w/salsa; ham steak
Tomorrow morning is weigh in. I expect it to be a disaster but I know it is just cyclical and will balance out by next week. I have not stepped on the scale since Saturday. I am a compulsive scale-hound. I get on it before I go to bed. I step on it when I wake up in the morning. And I have to exert self control NOT to step on it if I get up during the night to use the bathroom. I actually fear that tomorrow will be a terrible blow when it is up several pounds. I should probably weigh myself in the morning at home. Just so that I'm not shocked at WI. No, no, Cam . . . STEP AWAY from the scale. Okay, I'm better now. ;)
This morning's workout (60 minutes total):
Bike -- 35 minutes --6.2 miles -- 171 calories
TM -- C25k W1/D2 -- 3.8/4.7 (too slow, probably, but that's okay) + cool down ---->>> 1.5 miles (167 calories)

Just catching a bit on your journal. Way to go on that 8 mile run and for pushing yourself that little bit further.
I hope to be completing week one of C25K in a few weeks. I went today and jogged the first interval but clearly not ready quite yet. I did walk faster at 3.5 to 3.7 mph on the remaining intervals and I felt great for that accomplishment. But to be able to finished 8 miles woohoo that is amazing.
You go girl. I have no doubt you will hit your size for that wedding dress for those renewals. :) You have an amazing attitude and motivation when it comes to this stuff. Just remember they run small compared to normal "jean" sizing or even normal "dress" sizing so don't be discourage if in "wedding dress" size you get is up keep in mind your "pant" size as you go in there and if that dress needs to go up its just because evil dress makers are off on sizing.

Melissa-- Congratulations, sweetie! Woohoo :woohoo: on those speedy walking intervals! I know 3.5-3.7 is not easy. I am really happy for you for how far you have come so quickly! I can't wait to see you doing the C25K program and to share your progress. Remember that speed isn't important. It's the minutes you put in that will count (as I keep telling myself! LOL!). Oh, and the really nice thing about the wedding gown is that it is made to order, so although I'll be embarassed by those high numbers on a tape measure, at least I won't have a tag saying some size that I don't want to see when the dress comes in. Eating was so bad this past weekend that I didn't even journal it. I am disappointed in myself about that, but I got back on track yesterday. I have to get rid of the mindset that I can eat all the extra calories I am burning at the gym. And I really have to get a handle on after-dinner snacking. This is a struggle I've had since my college days, and every once in a while I get it under control for some period of time. I really need to start focusing on that as the ONE behavior modification that I am going to make.
I didn't work out at all Saturday or Sunday. There just was not limitless time and I ended up at the office for 9 hours Sunday.
Workout Monday, 4/28:
Bike -- 35 minutes -- 7.17 miles -- 189 calories
TM -- C25k W2D1 -- 2.0 miles -- 238 calories
Workout this morning, 4/29 (had to drive the car pool, so limited on time)
Bike -- 60 minutes -- 12 miles -- 331 calories
I am meeting my workout buddy at the gym tonight to do C25k W2/D2. I am worried that we will both be tired at the end of the day and it will be more difficult, but it seems more important to do it than it is to do it easily. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Stacie! The funny thing about packing for this weekend is that the only stuff that is packed is the vow renewal stuff that I am taking down early and storing in Orlando. I have some piles started in the guestroom for when I actually get around to packing, but that hasn't happened yet. LOL! The list keeps getting longer, though! Today's addition was 2 over the door shoe holders for our villa at OKW, there are 6 women staying there one night and 7 the other 2 nights so it really helps us to stay organized. :goodvibes
Oh, and the only reasons I can get to the gym in the mornings is because it is between my house and my office, Howard drives the carpool for me most mornings so that I can go, and I pack a shower bag and a garment bag to either shower at the Y or at my office building. I am very, very fortunate. :cloud9:

Julie -- I'll miss you this weekend!
Well, after working out yesterday morning and last night, it took everything in me to get to the gym this morning. But then I thought about WW weigh in tomorrow and the taco bell I shouldn't have eaten last night, and forced myself to go.
Activty today:
Bike -- 60 minutes -- 11.71 miles -- 363 calories

Hi Cam,
Great job making it to the gym, despite not wanting to. You are an inspiration that is going to get my butt to Pilates tonight.
Have a terrific trip, and a fun race. I'll be cheering from Michigan.
Safe journey,
Beth

THank you, Tracy & Beth! I am feeling so lousy with allergies these days. After tossing and turning all night, I got out of bed at 4:51, took care of some emails, set up the computer for Howard to print my boarding pass for tomorrow, and headed to the gym.
Today's workout:
elliptical -- 15 minutes -- 1.27 miles -- 155 calories
TM -- 30 minutes -- 2.07 miles -- 254 calories
Today was week 2 day 3 of Couch to 5k which alternates 90 seconds of jogging with 2 minutes of walking (after a 5 minute warmup). I ate breakfast and drank plenty of water before going to the gym and drank water there. I thought it was more important to be fueled and hydrated than to worry about this morning's WW weigh in (I gained. ). The workout wasn't quite as hard as I'd feared. I am looking forward to starting week 3 on Tuesday.
However, this is probably the last time I'll check in. I'm off to see a mouse about a medal!!! And only 15k between me and the FINISH!

Hi, everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. I got really sick right before leaving for the Minnie with my allergies being out of control and had almost no voice by the time I landed in Orlando. The weekend was absolutely awesome, though I really missed having our 7th "Minnie Girl" staying with us (Judy and her husband stayed together and left for a Disney cruise right after the race). We had so many awesome meals, inclluding Boma, Olivia's, Yatitori House, Boatwrights, tea at the GF, 1900 Park Faire and Spoodles. Absolutely delicious food everywhere and I came back up about 5 pounds though almost every last bit of it is gone.
Activity since I was here last:
5/2 (Friday) -- nada except walking around Target and AKL
5/3 (Saturday) -- nada except walking around EPCOT
5/4 (Sunday -- race day!) -- Garmin says 10 miles in 2 1/2 hours (150 mins & 10 miles)
5/5 (Monday) -- nothing except walking around the outlets and the airport
5/6 (Tuesday) -- Bike - 17 minutes -- 2.65 miles
TM -- 24 minutes -- C25K W3D1 -- 1.63 miles
5/7 (Wednesday) -- nothing -- too sick
5/8 (Thursday) -- TM -- 33 minutes total including C25K W3D2 -- total 2.2 miles
5/9 (Friday) -- Bike -- 60 minutes -- 10.64 miles (308 calories)

Today's workout--
Couch to 5k week 3 day 3
walk --> 5:00
jog --> 6:30
walk --> 8:00
jog --> 11:00
walk --> 14:00
jog --> 15:30
walk --> 17:00
jog --> 20:00
walk --> 23:00
all of that took me to 23 minutes and 1.45 miles -- pace 15:50, best 12:42
jogged another .5 mile home in 6 mins 41 secs -- pace 13:22, best 11:46
total 1.95 miles 29mins 41 secs -- way too slow!
I am thinking jambalaya and tortilla chips may not be the best pre-workout food.

Thank you, Tracy! Truthfully, my allergies are knocking me out. I still have sinus pressure and headaches and my left ear has never recovered since mid-March, so I still feel fluid in there and I don' t hear very well on that side. No time to deal with it, unfortunately. Thanks for asking, though!

Stacie -- I felt like I met a celebrity (or LONG-lost friend) at the WISH meet. Matt probably thought I was some whacko! You are such a sweetheart for being so supportive and it was absolutely awesome to see you ROCK the Minnie! I hope you are truly, outrageously proud of yourself! :cloud9:

Thanks, Debra! You are a sweetheart for still being so supportive when I am being so lax! I'm glad I've been able to stick with the C25K schedule but other than that, I've been soooo undisciplined. I am convinced that if I'd watched what I've eaten since marathon, with all my working out, I'd have lost 15 pounds. Instead, I think I've gained 3-5. :scared1: And it definitely is NOT attributable to muscle. :sad1: Just a tough time of year in April and May, so even if I'd gotten myself in gear for a moment in the intervening months, I'd surely have fallen off the wagon and been dragged for MILES starting about late March.
I keep telling myself I am getting back in gear. And then I find myself eating compulsively in the evenings. HAVE to get a handle on that. I think I should start with NOT reading bridal magazines at the kitchen table and getting up periodically to find more food. :sad2: Also, I shouldn't "munch" on something while dinner is cooking. :rolleyes1

Hi, Cam. Just wanted to pop in here on your journal and say thanks for all your positive comments on my RR/TR. I do very much appreciate all the encouragement I've received here on WISH, and I hope to be around getting more healthy every day for a long, long time!
I am sorry you are having trouble with allergies/sinus issues. I have experienced that and it is no fun. I also know something about dealing with a chronic health problem or two, so I am very sympathetic when someone else is having to handle a health issue that doesn't go away quickly. Here's some healing pixie dust for you! (Can't find the pixie dust smiley - just use your imagination!:cutie:)
I hear you on the food issue. I have problems with eating when I get home at night while making dinner, also. It's just a battle we have to keep waging!
Hope you have a good day!
Susan
