Can you only sign up to be a Disney Vacation Club member at WDW or can it be handled over the phone????
My wife and I are looking at becoming members, but have not decided as to which resort to choose. We honeymooned at BW September of last year and absolutely LOVE it... (we where upgraded to a Concierge room overlooking the BW above spoodles.
We also love the WL, but have never state there.
We can definitely do the DVC with the help of Disney financing (WLV), not sure if we could swing financing on our own for BWV (Boo Hoo).
ANy body know if your first purchase of DVC has to be in person at WDW?????

As long as Disney has registered in your state, the deal can be done by phone and mail. I believe Pennsylvania is a registered state(as most are). If you have not got the intial introductory package yet, you can call and have it sent.

Your first purchase of DVC does NOT have to be "in person at WDW", unless your state has not approved the DVC resort. (For example, I understand that NY has been a bit slow in approving DVC sales for NY residents).
I'm sure that if PA is one of those states, someone else will explain it more clearly. You can also just call DVC and one of the guides will be able to tell you if a sale to you over the phone is possible. I do know that several DIS posters have reported buying "site unseen".
Good luck with your decision.

Hi -
We just made our first purchase site unseen in June. We had contacted DVC last year and did have a tour scheduled for last year, but due to an illness, were unable to go. When we felt ready to buy this year, I just picked up the phone and did the transaction over the phone. I received my documents a few days later, signed them and we closed about 2 weeks ago!!! We did pay cash, but that wouldn't make a difference. Good luck!!!

We bought sight unseen, over the phone at BWV last summer (August to be exact), then did an add on at WLV while on our first BWV stay this past March. Jim McCoy was our DVC over the telephone guide, and would highly recomend him, he was GREAT ! He came to us on his day off while we were there in March, to meet us, and do a walk through at WLV. A hell of a nice guy.

hi: just adding a little note- the only properties available directly from disney are vwl, hh, and vb. you should purchase where you plan to spend the most time; your 11 month priority at your home resort is great. depending on your usual vacation times, getting into another dvc resort at the 7 month mark isn't always possible. if you get your hearts set on bwv or okw, you will have to purchase a resale.
