Hi! We go to WDW the 19th-23rd for the first time. In case we don't get good advice at the resort - question:

What is the best way to get from All Star Sports to the wilderness lodges for dinner at Artist Point one night and the Hoop De Doo show another? I'm not quite clear if we have to take the bus to MK and then the train....

Thank you!

It may be best to take a bus to MK. Then take the boat that goes to WL and Fort Wilderness.

Artist Point is in the Wilderness Lodge, Hoop Dee Do is at Fort Wilderness. They are two separate resorts, but you can get to both of them via the same boat from the MK. Just make sure you get off at the right stop each night!
The MK train doesn't take you anywhere outside the MK.

I would grab a cab from the all stars...very easy and takes a lot less time.

If you don't take a cab..allow at least 1 1/2 hours for travel time.

Take WEBRAY's advice about the cab. It may be fun to take the bus to MK and then the boat to GET to AP and HDD, but you're not going to want to do that to get back. You'll be pleasantly full and the commute back could wreck the mood.

We take cabs all the time at Disney.... not to the parks for the day, but when we have somewhere we need to be, like a dinner at a resort. It saves so much time and you don't have to leave so early and travel so long.

How much does it cost on average to take a cab from resort to resort, let's say the values to one of the MK resorts. We just got back from WDW and did the bus thing from resort to resort and it took FOREVER. Next time I would take the cabs, but don't know how much I should budget for that. Thanks!

Am I one of the few that feel the bussing is great? Its part staying at a resort so why would I want to pay for a cab? The MK/boat plan is perfect to get to WL. Another idea would be to head to DTD and switch busses there. And lastly, 1 1/2 hours for traveling ???

If you use the busses the absolute worst way to do it is to switch at DTD. That is what CMs will tell you to do but it takes the longest because of the three bus stops at DTD. The best way is to take a bus to a park then transfer to the other resort's bus. For MK resorts, go to MK and take the monorail. For Epcot resorts, go to MGM and take the boat (there are no busses from Epcot or MGM to the Epcot resorts).

wow. And add to all of that the option of going somewhere after the 5 PM show (e.g. epcot if open late that night) whee this will be fun

World Showcase is always open until 9:00 pm so you can certainly go there after the 5:00pm show. Catch the bus to the TTC and then the monorail to EPCOT.

Just for clarification, there is no monorail to WL and FW although they are usually classified as MK hotels.

The boat to FW and WL are fun but another strategy is to take the first park bus that comes along. At that park transfer to the resort bus.

Regardless, if the MK closes early on the night you dine at WL a taxi or the bus to DTD might be your only option to get home (besides the bus to TTC and monorail to EPCOT and bus to your resort if EPCOT is still open!)

THere's no rail to wilderness lodge but is it a far walk from the closest rail stop? (looks like the polynesian...)
THanks!!!

You can't walk from the WL to the Polynesian. Really, just follow the suggestions on the board. IF you're going to Epcot after dinner, you'll have no trouble finding a way there. Take the bus to the TTC, as BCV23 said, and then the monorail. Then take the bus from Epcot back to your resort when you're done.

I can't find the abbrev guide quickly - what is TTC?

THANK YOU!!!!!! This board is truly fantastic - both with its "userability" and the amazing amount of good advice.

Thank you thank you. I can't wait!

If I am going from resort to resort, I usually take the bus/boat/monorail to my destination. I usually take the WDW transportation back to my resort, but on a few occasions, DH and I have taken a cab home. Usually it is late, and we are tired, and just want to get back to the room, ASAP. Or, we were dressed up for a night out, and I didn't want to spend all that extra time in my fancy shoes (Victoria and Albert's)! :cheer2: We tend to take a cab back to our hotel if we had dinner at AKL (Boma or Jiko), because all the transfers back to the resort are long and tiring, especially after a full belly and good wine! :cloud9:

Our experience in paying for a cab, (we have stayed everywhere from All-Star to Carribbean Beach to Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk) the usual ride costs between $10-16, plus tip. Budget about $20 for each cab ride you plan to take.

TTC = Transportation and Ticket Center.
You can get boat, monorail or bus connections there. Even taxis! There is also a GIFT SHOP (and the kennels and Lost & Found).

We took a cab, around $12. Faster than bus and cheaper than renting a car. We got to the resorts early to explore. Last trip we resort hopped. It was a lot of fun. No pool hopping though. :flower:

luv2roam - aaah thank you for clearing that up!

Oh I just can't wait to get there! It will be 5 below zero tonight (we've had a really mild winter) and I can't wait for some upper-60's temps!!!!!

Speaking of cabs , how are the rates around Disney, say from All Star Sports to Pleasure Island?

Andreaplants, as of a month ago the TTC only serves two of the resorts by bus, the WL and FW. DTD has two stops and not three. The stops are The Marketplace and Pleasure Island. They don't stop at The Westside now.
