I just found this board, and sure am glad that I did. I always pick up extra postcards while @ WDW and will on my trip at the end of the month (Oct.27th-28th). I live near WDW and have an AP and go at least once a month (usually more, except in the summer!) I do not have any children (yet!). However, I think this is a really neat idea. I'd love to send some postcards from time to time, but I don't really know how to go about doing this, as I've never gotten autographs before.

Do you just buy postcards at Disney and then go to Guest Relations to get them signed? Or do you wait in line at the character meets or get them at character meals?

I will definitely be at WDW during November and December. If someone explains to me how to do this, I will be glad to send out postcards to kids who will be there in January/February. I can get up to 5 postcards done. Just message me with the relevant info (address, name, a couple characters that are faves).

All you have to do is buy the postcards, write a note on it and "sign" the character's name. Then mail it. It's real easy and the kids love receiving them. I just completed 18 of them and mailed them last week. Those little mouseketeers should be receiving them real soon! ;)

What's the cost on this? I guess it's just the price of a postcard plus the postage, eh? So where can you get decent postcards without breaking the bank? I've looked at a few in WDW but of course my eyes are always drawn to the 3d ones. I'd like to do this for some kids when we go in December, but I don't want to promise too many and then not be able to come through because of $$. Hope I'm not being crass but we are on a bit of a budget and I don't want to overcommit myself but I do so want to help spread the magic.

Usually most people only commit to 5 or less. So, your looking at the cost of the postcard and the stamp. I usually try to get mine in the resort gift shop the very first day and mail them immediately so that I have it done. Good Luck!

In the past I have taken my postcards to the CRT breakfast and had all the Princessess sign them and then mailed them. That went over really well. And, if I know I'm not going to see the character at one of our meals, I just sign creatively for them! Have Fun!


Now, for my own little project......

My DDad has finally agreed to go to Disney World with us next September. My mother is estatic but he is less than thrilled. I was thinking about having a postcard a month sent to him till we go. Just trying to tease him a bit. Anyone want to play along or have another idea????

When we went to WDW in September we sent several postcards, one to a DD (4) of a coworker. She has carried it around with her everywhere since she received it. They left to go to Disney Saturday (an 8 hour + drive from southern Alabama) and received a phone call about 1/2 way there. They were taking my coworker's father to the hospital with a possible massive stroke. So, the car makes a U-turn and while worried about his father, they are trying to console their DD. Grandfather is still in the hospital, but doing well. They are in the process of rescheduling their trip and I thought a new postcard from Disney would help. If anyone is leaving soon and wouldn't mind sending a postcard to a very sweet, but unhappy child, I would so greatly appreciate it. You can PM me and I will send you the information.

For my DD 13th birthday, DH and I are surprising her with a trip to WDW. I've been struggling with a "creative" and "fun" way to tell her. A postcard from Tink would solve all my problems.

Last minute request...I just now read this sticky, and it's been up here forever! We are going pretty soon....leaving the 26th and returning December 1st. I've got 3 boys....ages 7 months, 2 1/2 yrs, and 4 1/2 yrs. The older 2 would just be in awe if they were to get a card in the mail!!!! If someone is going soon and would be willing to send out the cards for me, I will pay it forward with 5 cards when we go the week after Thanksgiving!

Check the list (a few posts above yours), pick someone that's going to Disney several weeks before you and PM them to ask. Everyone on the list has volunteered to send postcards, but it's incumbent upon you to select someone and PM them so they can get the information needed. PS -- find someone that doesn't have "full" beside their name becuase those folks have already made committments that fill up the number of slots they're willing to do.

Hi folks - sorry to randomly butt in and not read the last 95 pages, but I'm wondering two quick things

1) How long does it take a postcard to get from DW to most places (let's say Virginia)
My two young ones still don't know!!! [so hard, keeping it a secret though] we're getting to go for christmas (19-23) so I figured this would be a great way to surprise them

2) Is it a man thing that I find it slightly 'unusual' (or maybe, difficult, is the word), to just randomly PM someone on the list and ask someone to do it? :)

OK everyone I have made a big Big BIG mistake. I promised 2 families that I would send their kids postcards from WDW. I was to send 3 to a family with 3 kids and 2 to a family with 2 kids but NOW I CANT FIND MY FILE. I typed it up a week ago and now it is not on my computer. AND the problem is that STUPID me leaves in 4 hours for the airport. SO I am hoping that these two families will read this and they will PM me with the INFO again. I will try to get to a computer when I get to WDW.

I apologize for messing up the whole pay it forward idea. I can't tell you how sorry I am. If those 2 families will please PM me again with the info I promise to take care of those cards again.

I am hoping the gentleman from Maryland see my message and PM me. Thanks again for volunteering to take care of those. We are at the Contmp. and WOW the new rooms are unbelieveable. Crowds are not bad either. Longest wait at MGM today was 30 min posted but it was only 15. Thanks again.....

We had this done for our kids in 2005 and it was soooo magical for them. We also sent out 5 postcards and had so much fun spreading the magic on through that. We can't wait to do it again!

Not an exact guess, but I would say on average about 7-10 days.

Those are fast passes and you can find lots of info on them in the rides and attractions forum. You can also use the search function at the top of the screen.

We leave Tues, maybe we'll bump into you.
