My parent shave been gone for a while and keep sending DD postcards. When she got home from school today I told her she had a postcard. She said "Another one?" thinking it was from her grandparents. Well imagine her surprise when it was from "Ariel"! She ran to the door when her daddy came in to tell him that Ariel sent her a card! Thank you for sending this to her (I think it was Chris). She was so excited!

My DH and I were talking about sending postcards to our niece & nephews when we leave for BWV in a few weeks. A cute idea he came up with would be to write out a postcard to the child that you know saying that their favorite character was asking about them or something & you can say that the character wanted to sign the postcard. Then take the postcard w/ you to a place where you know you are going to see that certain character (that may require a bit of proper planning) & get them to sign the postcard for your child. It doesn't matter if the characters have to write over the entire card...that's what makes to so charming! And of course....don't forget to take pictures of the character signing the cards! We thought this was a great idea & would go over extremely well.

My 6yr old got her's in the mail on Saturday. She was on cloud 9. She took it to school yesterday and showed all the class. Her's was from Cinderella. Her teacher had a mini lesson on how the letter "C" sometimes sounds like the letter "S".

I'm pretty sure each hotel has a mailbox. I know for sure the values do. They're usually right next to the arcade. You can ask a CM at the front desk to find out where yours is.

Anyways, he has never really traveled anywhere away from home (he's in his 50s) and he is thus far underwhelmed by WDW. I was hoping someone could send him a postcard to the effect of "Hey, I can't believe you waited so long to come see me!" and have it signed by Mickey (or Goofy, or some other highly-recognizable character, as he is not a huge Disney fan). I think he'd get a kick out of it. I know this is a little different than sending cards for kids, but I thought I'd try. PM me.

Okay I feel stupid because I don't really get this. Do I mail it from here (home) or when I get to WDW? Will the kids notice the postmark? I'm all for Paying It Forward (my fav movie message!). Can someone who has done this PM me and 'splain further. thanks!

Basically the way it worked for us back in 2006 was we found someone who was going to be at the parks a few weeks before us and gave them my DS and DD Name address and favorite character. When they were at the parks they found post cards with the characters on them and mailed them to our kids Saying "can't wait to see you in a few weeks"

The kids flipped out when Mickey and Minnie sent them post cards and knew they were coming.

Then a couple of weeks before I was going to Disney, I posted a message on this thread and found 5 kids to send postcards to. I hope they enjoyed them as much as my kids did:cool1:

FYI, in case you don't know....If you go to the Customer Service at the front of the park you can get your postcards and stamps AND they will mail them for you! That way the children get a WDW postmark and it is less time and effort on your part. This is the way I did ours in March in DHS. I love your "Paying if Forward" idea, it is so "Disney" to fans to work magic for each other like that.

If you have trouble finding someone to whom you can send cards, you might try sending some to a child with a life-threatening illness who is going to WDW on a Wish Trip. The central meeting thread for such folks is Wish Trippers Unite. Just click the "Home Page for Wish Trippers" link in my signature.

I will also let those folks know about this thread as I am sure they would like to Pay if Forward as well.

There is a movie by that name, about a boy who begins a trend of doing good deeds for strangers. The theory is that the stranger will return the favor by doing a good deed for another stranger. In that way you "pay forward" for good deeds instead of paying back. I hope that makes sense.

In this case it means sending a postcard from WDW when you are there, allegedly from a Disney character, to a child who will be coming on a trip. The card would say something like, "I am looking forward to meeting you, Johnny, when you come to my home... signed Mickey Mouse."

I am really excited about it. We have two sets of twins and a couple other kids that we are sending to this year. It will be fun! I always write a script for them up before our trip so I have a little more time to be creative. It helps later when we are at Disney. I only wish we could see their little faces when they get them in the mail. I really enjoy buying and sending postcards. It's one of my favorite activities.

The big Disney gift shop (don't know the name) in Downtown Disney sells stamps at the information desk.

Also, the selection of characters is rather limited. Mickey and Minnie (sp?) are easy to find as well as the Castle, Tinkerbell too. But other than these I did not see much variety unless I was looking in the wrong spot.

She freaked out. My husband read it aloud to her (she is 2 1/2) and it said how Cinderella and Tigger couldnt wait to see her. She put it on and off the refridgereator like 20 times that night. She kept showing me, saying Mickey at Cinderella's castle sent me a letter.

Thank You Thank You Thank You...This made her week. She has since, showed Grandmom, Cousin Megan (same age) and today she took it to 'school' to show her teachers.

DD8 and I are taking a very special (and first!!) mother/daughter trip to WDW Sept. 20th - 27th. We have been to WDW only once and it was a brief trip with no knowledge of parks (can you IMAGINE!) before hand. THIS trip is one we have been waiting on for FOUR YEARS! Whew! I hope it to be extra magical as I (and a very special Dis'er) have been able to keep the magic alive for DD and she still believes the characters and all magic are all too real:thumbsup2

DD and I have done the cruise for the past two years and I have mailed cards to Dis'ers out from Castaway Cay each time....it's always a blast! If anyone could possibly send my daughter, Maddie, a postcard from "Tink" prior to our trip in September....I would be very grateful!

It also had Magic Kingdom stamps and was mailed from there....Did my fairygodmother write the note and just have mickey sign it? do we sign it ourselves? where do you get the stamps? and do you leave the mail at the front desk? Where is the best place to get postcards? We have dinner at Crystal Palace the first night we are there, is this a good start for the signature on the postcards??

I too am looking to find where the best place is for postcards, where to mail, etc. I know when we've done this before, there wasn't a great selection on Disney property.
I think most people write and sign the cards themselves, copying the character autograph. This is a site someone mentioned earlier on for examples of character signatures:

Click on the character, and you'll find info and their autograph. I know you're
VERY creative, so this should be easy for you! ;)
