View Full Version : Forget Food . . . Need Fun
We need 2 fun dinner meals, one at Epcot and one at MGM.
The Garden Grill and the 50's Primetime will both be CLOSED during our trip in 10 days. :guilty:
Must have food 2 picky little kids will eat. Checked menus and Biergarten & Morocco would be out. Mom & Dad will make due with whatever . . .
Not looking for a character meal, as we already have plenty of those PS.
So where do we go??? Thanks for your tips!

The only meal open at MGM that might be fun will be Sci Fi. Menu might not be right for your kids though. My s will only eat chicken fingers and i don't think they have those. As far as Epcot goes, we are bummed that GG will be closed. We were really planning on that one. We actually decided to skip having a fun meal at Epcot since the only other ones i could think of was Coral Reef, which gets not such good reviews, and Teppanyaki which had othing my younger son would eat. We will instead have breakfast at BC for the character breakafast and then enter Epcot via the International Gateway entrance, or leave Epcot and head to Downtown Disney to eat at Rainforest or Planet Hollywood.

How about Whispering Canyon? It's a fun lively place where nearly anything can happen. ;) Just be sure to ask for ketchup and Pepsi!

Fun at Epcot... I would suggest Mitsukoshi Tempanyaki in the Japan pavillion. Great food, and the kids love to watch the chefs cook the food!
At Disney MGM, really your best choice would be Sci Fi Dine In, if you are looking to amuse the kids.
Hadn't heard about 50's Prime Time. When will it be down and for how long? SIL is coming in Feb and we were thinking of taking here there.

Where did you read that these are closed? We loved Prime Time, I'd be bummed if they are closed during our trip.

What if you left MGM and went to ESPN club. DH and DS really liked that last summer. It's a short boat ride.

I know the Garden Grill wll be closed along with the Land pavillion. I'm quite certain 50's Primetime Cafe will be open.

I also remember seeing that Primetime was going to be closed while we were there, but I can't find any info anywhere on it now. Might want to check it out by calling Disney dining and double checking. maybe they decided not to close it!
(two dd's currently 5 & 7) One of my children is a very, very picky eater and one of our favorite fun places is Morroco. Before you rule it out I thought I would mention what we like.
I tell my dd (the picky eater) that the plain couscous is Aladin pasta, they also, have a plain type noodle she likes. At other Epcot restaruants I actually buy rice from china or Japan and bring it with us. But anyway.
Everytime we have gone the kids always got up with the Belly Dancer.
Before dinner we always do a mask at the kidscot area, then have Alladin and Jasmine sign them as these characters have always seem to be there when we go. So they get to see some of there favorite characters, do a craft, and belly dance in a beautiful restaraunt we really enjoy it.

My girls love Sci-Fi. They had hotdogs and burgers.

I'm in the same boat. We are doing sci-fi at MGM. I'd probably just do counter service at World Showcase in Epcot. That way everyone can get what they want. If you really want to have a sitdown, Coral Reef is fun because they can watch the aquarium.

i'll add my vote for mitsukoshi. i loved that place when i was little, and still do. the food is great and since they cook it right in front of you (very cool for kids) you can get it whatever way you want.

what about mexico?
its fun to see the boats float by your table ... :boat:
and the indoor "outdoor" atmosphere is fun
can't remember whats on the menu ... but my DD5 is picky and i dont remember any compliants ... do remember she loved the tortilla chips that they served before dinner
I remember having a hard time getting food for my kids at Mexico. My DH ran to China and got rice to go.
But otherwise we all liked Mexico the atmosphere (Mariachi players sp?, boat ride, stars volcanos, kidscot)
Thanks for all the responses.
I like the suggestions for plain rice, noodles, and cous cous. Our girls all love those. My 8 yo is like food adventures and sometimes our 5 yo will try something new. But the 3 yo eats noodles & cous cous. Period.
I have never been to Epcot with kids, nor in 9 years, so I have no personal experiences to draw on. I have only had sitdown meals at Biergarten, France, Morocco. Loved all 3!
We will only be in MGM & Epcot for half days - so we are not looking to leave and go to a resort.
For those who asked, this is from Intercot.com
"The Garden Grill in the Land Pavilion will be closed January 2 through April 6, 2005 - as they prepare the pavilion for the completion of Soarin"
"50's Prime Time Cafe will be closed for refurbishment from January 17-31, 2005. "

I like Mexico also and it was my dd6's favorite restaurant. (This shocked me since we did crt, psb, chef mickey's, gg, crystal palace and mickey's backyard bbq on the same trip.) :)

I would suggest Teppanyaki as well, but if they are picky, that may not work. My kids really liked their food at Rose and Crown (I think they had pizza & a hot dog), but the atmosphere is nothing special. They also liked the sweet and sour pork at the counter service Chinese restaurant. If you are willing to go to the Beach Club (just a quick walk outside the entry near France), I know they would find food they liked at the Cape May Cafe- my kids had a flippin hey-day at dinner....all the chicken fingers, hot dogs, fruit, rolls they could stuff in their little sweet faces! (they were 5 and close to 2 at the time).
I don't know what to say about MGM---my kids loved Pizza Planet! Again, it's counter service, but boy, they sure felt like they were right in the Toy Story movie!

Our DS5 loved Sic Fi when we went over Thanksgiving. Watching the big screen while eating in a car was FUN! He got a drink with the glowing ice cube, too. He didn't care for the first thing we ordered (he's a picky one, too) and they brought him another meal, no charge. We all had a blast!
