Are the prices for car rentals better if you rent a car outside of the airport? If so, can anyone recommend any company and is there a shuttle from airport to offsite rental. I'm looking at 5/28/05---6/4/05 , 2 adults and 2 kids if that helps.
TIA

You can save a few bucks sometimes by renting from an off airport location, but the hassle of waiting for the shuttle and schlepping your luggage along often outweighs the small savings. The offsite locations are very close by (mostly on McCoy road), but a party your size I'd stick to the short walk to the garage to get a car (it will be pretty hot when you go, so carrying luggage in the heat will be felt). With good use of discount codes, you can probably get a National or Alamo or Dollar rental for pretty cheap onsite at MCO.

Hertz is offsite and their rental prices are competitive with onsite. Their shuttle is always waiting and is a quick ride to the lot. One person could go pick up the car while the others were waiting for the luggage.

When leaving Orlando you could do curbside check in with the luggage and then return the car. We found using Hertz was quicker than using National onsite.

If you belong to AAA they give a great discount at Hertz.

I also used Hertz with no problem at all. In fact, at times the wait for on-site is longer than hopping the shuttle (e.g. Alamo). Thrifty is down the street from Hertz and I've used them too with not problems. Obviously, the more luggage you have makes it a bit harder to get on / off the shuttle.
