The food was fine- McDonald's -which IS what we had in mind for a quick late lunch yesterday with our party of 5 adults and 2 toddlers. Plenty of outside shaded tables to get settled for a lunch break. About a 5 minute wait to get to the order taker in the line.
But THEN...more that 20 minutes to get the FOOD! :earseek: The staff behind the counter had peoples drink orders lined up all over the place and kept hovering at the window where the cooks put the orders out for them. No one would say what the delay was...it couldn't have been volume because I've seen that place serve a LOT more people in a lot shorter time. There were no LIDS on the drink cups  when they handed me my tray and I was so glad to have the food I just assumed the lids were at the condiment station. But I couldn't find them. When I asked an employee I got I got a blank stare and a shrug and "I guess we don't have any".
A VERY "unDisney-like" experience IMHO!!

I don't think that the AK restaurants have lids since they don't have straws (although I've never really paid much attention). Straws would be dangerous to the animals, since so many people don't put their trash in the trash cans. But the CM should have known that.

Thanks for posting, Ann. Sorry you had a bad experience, but its always helpful to hear the good and bad. Hope you had better luck at other places.

No lids, no straws, no coffee stirs because they are very harmful if the animals ingest them. Same rules at the zoo here. But I am very surprised the CM didn't know! Maybe that CM was new or was just helping at AK for the day?

Sorry you had a bad experience. It ALWAYS seems like a zoo (pardon the pun) in there! Not only that but although the chicken nuggets and fries are McDonald's the burgers are not. I NEVER thought I'd say this but McDonald's burgers are better than theirs!

Thanks for sharing- we were considering going. But with so many other place to go, I think I'll choose another.

The Lid/Straw policy is park-wide ... none of the restaurants within the park itself will give you lids or straws (including our Cast cafeterias), for the safety of the animals.

(Rainforest Cafe gives out straws, but technically, they're not in the park)

Oh that makes sense (about the plastic lids/straws) now that I know! Maybe they should post educational signs ....right in the line at that counter to give the patrons something to read during the looooong wait ;) :teeth: haha

thanks for the info / input!

they should put up a sign about the lids and straws. Not everyone knows they are a no-no at zoos. None here at the local zoo, either, but there is a sign telling why.

I know I've seen a sign to that effect inside Pizzafari, and I'm pretty sure I've seen one inside Tusker House.

I had the same experience in July of 2004. It was chaotic and nearly intolerable for sevice.

So we are not talking about the character meal breakast here? this is a counter serve?

They do have a character breakfast buffet here, but after breakfast it turns to a counter service restaurant with lunch/dinner food. I believe Ann is talking about the counter service lunch.
