So, with all the shoveling I have been doing for the past 36 hours, I thought I would see how many calories are burned doing this nasty nasty task!

(drumroll, please)
130 lb person: 354 cals/hour
155 lb person: 422 cals/hour
190 lb person: 518 cals/hour

Pretty impressive!! So, the question is, does this get counted towards the 1,000 minutes of workouts?

I say...bring it on!! :umbrella:

Michelle - you are too funny! I was wondering something similar. I spent a good 10 or 15 minutes scraping ice off my windshield and windows and didn't get a work out in this morning so I was wondering if I could claim it as part of my exercise too. I don't think I will but I sure felt like exerted myself as much as I would doing one of my Firm work out tapes! :cool1:

I say it can go toward the 1,000 minutes!!!! Goodness sakes! That's a workout. Especially if the snow is like here today......very, very heavy. If fact, now it is freezing rain. My kids said they couldn't even build a snowman because of the ice on top of the five inches of snow. They had fun anyway.

Michele.......I have to tell you........your pictures are SO adorable! Your pooch is a cutie. I have a samoyed named Penny(this is her kind of weather, but she almost disappears in the snow since she is white), I love dogs. You had a caption underneath the one picture with the stick recently, right?? What is his name? It was like, Sammy vs. the stick. Too, too funny and soooooooo cute. :D

OMG!!! Yes!! I had a caption under it..."Spencer vs. the stick" but I couldn't get it to stay under that picture. He is the neatest dog...he really amuses me! That pose was obtained by him bouncing off the door frame because the stick was so long!! He just landed, and I shot the pic!! :earboy2:

Oh yeah baby! I'm counting the morning shovel as 1 Activity Point (100 calories burned). There'll be more to come when I get back home, too!!!!

Bring it on :cool1:

I would count it toward the 1,000 minutes. I shoveled the front walk but I'm going to let dh use the snowblower for the driveway. :)

Spencer!! That was it! :teeth: Oh, I just want to squeeze him.

The snow has stopped here. I am so bummed..........I heard next week it's supposed to be in the 60's. Now what is up with that. I know some of you don't like winter.........but as long as it's going to be cold, it might as well be white. :teeth: otherwise it's just blah looking.

Wow! Very cool :). I shoveled about 30 minutes yesterday and 1.5 hours today. That's over 800 calories used. I made sure to stretch and do a little pilates when I came in.

I say it most certainly does!! That's tough work. We dodged the ice/snow bullet here near Philly! Thank goodness!

All snow is not created equal!!!!]

It was one thing shovelling the stuff that was on the ground this morning. It was an entirely different story coming home from work! The snow has been beaten down by rain/sleet and it is unbelievable heavy. But more minutes for me :cool1: yahoo

I would definetely count it as well! I went for a walk today too, and about 1/3 of the sidewalk wasn't shoveled. That walk was a lot more strenuous because I had to lift my legs so high with each step. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk! :cool1:

Just my 2 cents worth - but I'm sure show shoveling should count as exercise!
