Anybody headed off on the holiday cruise of '06? The 10 day I mean. We got ourselves booked on the 10-day of '04 (12/18/04). Anybody already know they are going?

We were on the recent 10 day Christmas cruise and had such a wonderful time that we also decided to rebook prior to leaving the ship. We have deposited and have a room assigned. The only disappointment was not getting the additional 10% for this cruise. Oh well, it will be too good to pass up. We are looking forward to Castaway Cay on Christmas this trip since it was closed for swimming this past cruise. Look forward to seeing some of the same faces this trip. We met several DIS people this past cruise and I promised I would log in this time instead of just reading the posts. My daughter meet Jessica Weinhart (AFFF's daughter) this past cruise and really enjoyed talking to her. She hopes that she will see her again on this cruise.

we will have to arrange a meeting place when it gets closer to that time. It seems too far away. I can't believe i will have graduated before that vacation. Seems too unreal. I hope we can share some common interests since we like the same length cruises. I was also on the 10 day in '04. had a blast.

We also had a great time on this cruise. The only drawback was it went by too quickly and had to go back to work. I had never taken a Disney cruise before, but my wife convinced me to go this past Christmas as a family and I'm glad I did. I had cruised on RC to Alaska and three Carnival cruises and never really thought about Disney but I was impressed with the service and facilities on the Magic.

Are there two threads for this cruise?

DCLgodess

yes there are. i guess the admins should probably close this one, since the other one has more posts. but whatever. I'm not going to be the one to complain. its going to be such a great cruise. are you going The Land and Sea Guy?

Cary - yep, I thought your name was Ken. By the end of the cruise we were ordering one of everything. We were amazed your daughters ordered and ate from the adult menu. And they were so friendly and well behaved!!!!! Fran, older woman with light hair, just sent me an email talking about the lovely family next to us. I am glad we will cruise together again.

Sue - Well, what a small world. Enjoyed sitting next to you and your group! I read on here that children can order from the adult menus. So, I told them to look and order if something appealed to them. :D We have the first seating. I'm sure all the DISers will be sitting together again.

We were on the apl rotation. As we get closer to the sail date we can request our reservations be linked. Then we can be seated together. Normally the tables are for 4, 6 or eight.

Yes, for the next 10 day. We had apl rotation on the 10 day 04. I'll bet alot of the 10 Disers last year will end up on the 10 day 06 :D . I've heard talk on the other thread people don't want to pack on christmas day but, its no issue with me. We keep stuff pretty orgainized and it's no a huge ordeal. I'm looking forward to sitting next to other Disers on this cruise!

We can do it now! What was your favorite dessert? Mine was the chocolate lava cake with the vanilla ice cream on the side we copied from you. ::yes:: Nice touch!

I liked a chocolate dessert from the 1st new menu, maybe day 3 or 4. It was semi sweet slices w/ a mousse, maybe coffee or amaretto flavor. Of course the lava cake must rate a VERY close 2nd and you are correct, the ice cream made it :cloud9: .

OMG! no offense but that lava cake almost made me barf. It was way rich. I have the menus from the whole trip (thank you concierge service) so i am trying to remember which was my favorite. That would be so cool to have our tables near eachother. Now to convince my mom of that....

I have looked at all the menus and can't find this one. Was it possibly the Celebration Cake? Lawyers of cheese cake and strawberries, embedded in rich vanilla cream, glazed with white chocolate

maybe ice cream rather than mousse.

oh my. lucky you. i have been in there with a friend on my '02 cruise, but never stayed there. Now back to deserts. That sounds soooo good. My mouth is watering. I will have to look at the menus and see if i can find them. There are two sets i am missing, like "Around the World" menus, an one other that the conceirge service didn't give to us. perhaps it was on one of those.

Maybe it was the Chocolate Deadence - No real discription on the menu.

Hows this sound: Carmelized Apple on an Oreo Cookie Crust with Cointreau, Creme Fraiche and Cranberry Coulis. From Master Chef menu.

My favorite meal was the Steamed Antartic Bass from the Golden Mickeys menu. :bitelip:

DM thinks the dessert was the 'Triple chocolate terrine on a bed of Rasberry Coulis and Vanilla Crisp'. Are these all the desserts from the dinner menus? That just doesn't sound right. Was there anything with pyramid (sp) in the name. It definitely was from the new menu cause Dennis, our server, thought it was special looking and he recommended it, even though he had not tried it yet.

Hi Lynda and Cash. I remember meeting ya'll on the elevator with my family on the 10 day.

Congrats on finding the mysterious dessert! I knew it could be done!

St. Lucia was our favorite too. We did the horse back riding. What an adventure. These were rescued horses from all around the island. The engish lady that owned the stable could not believe Disney chose them over two other professional riding stables on the island. She said she live in a house up on a hill with a view of the port. When Disney Magic pulled in that morning, she said it felt like royalty was visiting. She saw the pirate ship escort us in and knew the captain. Said the captain of the pirate ship was excited for days of the upcomming arrival of our ship!

yeah we were on the pirate ship and the captain said it was a honor for the port to recieve such a ship. I felt like i was in a dream on that excursion. We were going to do the horseback riding until the wonderful conceirge team got us on the pirates. Since I own a horse it wasn't that urgent I go riding again.

Jen, I got to ride the horse as it swam in the ocean. Very cool! It was privately owned land next to the stable that lead to the ocean. The reason this was neat is that there were no other excursions or other group there. Just the 15 that signed up from the Disney Magic. I like to say that. Disney Magic.

Now that I would love to do. swim a horse. Its always to cold or raining or too hot here to swim horses. :sad1: And riding on the beach is fun. I just love to ride period  . lol. Saying Disney Magic is fun. Most of my friends go "the Disney what?" its sad. I think Disney needs a tv commercial like carnival to let the world know they exist. yes i did, though at the time i didn't know he was also a member of the boards. It was great to meet him. He's really nice. The President was a really down to earth guy. He didn't draw attention to himself. My sister became friends with their 14 year old daughter. It was a good time. Once in a lifetime chance i always say. Cary, the prices the quoted you included the 10%. we did recieve the 10% b/c we booked at the quoted price. Since the price included the 10%, we in essence recieved it, but not an additional 10% off what is quoted. Do you understand what I am saying? Fluff Queen - we were in 7636 on the 12/18 cruise. It is huge. and if you move the deck furniture Cash will have plenty of room. Actually Jeanne could have used her walker on the way to the bathroom.

Hooray!

Stick a scooter, a dog, and six suitcases of clothes and spare medical accessories that sounds just about right...I can't complain, though, we usually get 6154 no matter which ship... Lots of room on the verandah for Cash's litter box...maybe TWO litter boxes on a 14-or 21-day...for sure, the single one got a little swampy after 5 days at Christmas...Then we had REAL excitement...

I booked 3 cruises while we were on board. Jan 28, 06 western, my sister's bday. May 27, 06 double cc and the 10 nighter in 06. I remember the person saying I got the disc for Jan and May but not the 10 nighter. I can't remember the reason.

Donna told me the same thing when I booked the trio of 06 Christmastime cruises. When I questioned it she showed me the part on the "Why book on board" advertisement where it specifically stated that the 10% was for 7-night rebookings only..So, although I booked the 10-night, the 4-night and a 7-night I only got, according to her, the 10% for the 7-night...
As I don't know how to go back and check, I've let it stand....ALSO, Donna booked me in a Category 5 at a category 11 rate because of the HA stateroom with the verandah for Cash (long story)... So I've left it alone except to mention it to my TA. Mysterious...

Dropped in to say hello.... Its getting warmer in Atlanta :cool1: . Sunday a possible wintery mix. :earseek:

When we go to cc on this cruise, I definately want to do the bottom fishing! I was signed up for it and as we all know everything was canceled. Every time I've been to cc it has been cloudy and cold. I'm wishing for good weather on this cruise.

Idea: We should get all the Diser's together and find a excursion everyone likes or can agree on and do it together! :grouphug:

I don't know how many Disers but, the navigator sure listed a bunch of us. And yes not all want to do things but some will! Think of all the fun this would be. Pictures, getting to know each other better....Would be a memorable experience! We should post this idea on the double scoup thread.

I was also on the 10 day '04 X-Mas Cruise. Met alot of great people from this board. So many so it was a bit overwhelming. Some I remeber, some I don't being names and faces challanged  . Sue, I don't remember meeting you however, I sat next to your Mom, Jeanne at the Ornament Exchange and just thought she was the sweeetest lady. How is she feeling?

We booked on board and was told immediately that the discount did not apply to the 10 day...too bad, ouch!!!!!

Stacey, I have not been on the boards at all. What has happened to Molly?

Yes, for the next 10 day. We had apl rotation on the 10 day 04. I'll bet alot of the 10 Disers last year will end up on the 10 day 06 :D . I've heard talk on the other thread people don't want to pack on christmas day but, its no issue with me. We keep stuff pretty orgainized and it's no a huge ordeal. I'm looking forward to sitting next to other Disers on this cruise!

St Lucia. It was very beautiful and the excursion we did was awesome. We did the Pirates Extravenganza. It was soo much fun. I also heard the diving was fantastic so I am excited to go back and dive. Plus the diving was with Sandals, and they are fabulous. Plus the people in St. Lucia were so excited to have the Magic come there. It was like a dream come true for them. Anybody else want to share?

St Lucia was my favorite stop. We were on the AM Pirate Cruise and at the end of the excursion two of the "pirates" (weren't they great with the kids) said of all the cruise lines they take on this excursion, these kids were the most polite and well behaved they had EVER seen. WOW!!

I did al little shopping and not much else. Next time I would love to see more.

Oh Boy, Lynda...let me tell ya, it has been a hell of a time since we got back!!

1. No, we didnt escape the "cough". Jim & I both ended up with pnuemonia. Jim was so bad that he had trouble breathing and has not had a cigarette in three weeks :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4: . Don't know if you noticed he was basically a chain smoker. He had a real scare. DD didn't get sick. I think it was because she was on antibiotics the whole trip for an ear infection.

Hang on, there's more.....

My Dad, who is 73 and tough as nails has lived with us for about 8 years now. He still works full time at a small neighborhood bar, smokes too much, drinks too much and doesn't eat hardly. Really, he weighs 130 lbs.

Where is she going with you ask......

Monday after New Years, Dh is in the bathroom at about midnight and hears Dad go downstairs...thinks nothing of it. Few mintues later he hears some commotion outside and lights. There's a cruiser, fire truck and ambulance in front of house. As DH gets to the door, very confused, he watches Dad walking down the driveway (wouldn't want to have the rescue personal come to you now would ya, Dad)but doesn't make it and collapses.

Of course, the cop comes up to DH (in nothing but his skibbies, by the way) to see what has led up to this. By this time I have joined they frey (in more than my skibbies) equally confused. Seems he called 911 himself, saying he couldn't breath. Later he tells me he didn't want to wake anyone. Can you say strangle him????? At this point he is on the way to hospital and they tell me he has stopped breathing.

magiroux
01-22-2005, 08:03 PM
In emergency, he is put on breathing machine and it he looked just awful. All I knew was for the last two days he had a cold. Well seems it was pneumonia (probably caught it from us) and his lungs were in bad shape.

He gets sent to ICU almost immdiately because emergency is so busy they got him on machines and out of there, they need his room.

Jump two days later...still in ICU and not really with it, come to find out from blood tests it seems he has also had a small heart attack (his second). they want him to rest and they will advise if more bypasses are needed. He tells his Dr that he cannot sleep in ICU (too much going on). No problem, he'll give him something to help him sleep.

Dr gives him Adavan (sp?).

Well................

01-22-2005, 08:12 PM
At 5:30AM the next morning I get a call from nurse. Dad is flipping. He wants to go home now.

I get Dad on the phone. "come getme" he says. "they are trying to kill me" and a whole lot of other stuff they made no sense. I get the nurse on the phone. What did you give him I ask, he's nuts.

By 9AM they tell me to come and get him or they are going to restrain him AGAIN!!!

He's home less than 5 minuted, he falls. He's coughing all day and he is still high from the pill from hell. I am just trying to get him to sleep it off.

By 10pm that night, guess who's back at our house? The cruiser, fire truck and ambulance. He can't breathe again. Back on the breathing machine. Now they start trying find out why he keeps stop breating and with CAT Scan they have found a tumor in his lung.

I caught it, too.....:flower1: No hair-raising stories, though. EEEEKK!

Just bronchitis and sinus infection... nearly threw myself out of the water bed one night and I'm still coughing....I can imagine it would hit smokers pretty hard, especially one growing foreign objects in his breathing apparatus...

Mary Ann,
First I'll say I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV......But....
What the doctor probably gave your Dad was Ativan. It is a generic form of Diazepam/Lorazepam, and in some cases rather than work as a tranquilizer, it can cause sleeplessness, agitation and rage.
It should also never be given to a heavy smoker, as it could then cause even more difficulty with breathing.
I learned to read a lot when we were taking care of Jay's Dad. I made the doctors change his meds more than once, and change the dosages several times. I also had to research food interactions with his meds. Eventually, the docs learned to listen to me.

We haven't even got to DH's Dad yet. He has been ill since August. Got on a plane to get on an Alaska Cruise and never made. Almost died, got med flighted back to Boston and spent about a month in the hospital. Had an infection complicated by his diabeties. They were talking amaputation and all kinds of nasty stuff. He finally gets fixed up and out of the hospital in October but hasn't recovered.

The day after My Dad's first visit to emergency, his Dad gets rushed back to Mass Gen and is put on Dialysis. He is still there and honestly we don't know if he will recover. I think Dh is just blocking this out. Does not want to deal eith it.

I feel so sorry for you. I lost my dad to cancer 2 almost 3 (Jan 27) years ago. Cancer can be a very hard thing to deal with. Tumors, even non cancerous, are pains too. Someone on every side of my family has had cancer or has it currently. Not fun stuff. Sorry to hear about your DH's dad. maybe we should all pray for a miracle.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and pixie dust coming my way. I really do appreciate it.

My Dad is feeling MUCH better and recovering nicely from the new bypasses. Next week he goes to the lung Dr and we begin to deal with that. Oh, the Dr advised that it was not a good idea in his "aggitated" state of mind to tell them what they found untill he had a chance to recover from his other issues. He only thinks they found a "shadow".

When we were getting off the boat the last time I saw Denise she was lying on the ladies room floor outside AP. Poor thing was SO sick!! So many people got sick by the time that cruise was over. I know what you mean about the cough. Dr gave us some killer cough medicine that DH & I now refer to as "The Happy Juice".

I learned to read a lot when we were taking care of Jay's Dad. I made the doctors change his meds more than once, and change the dosages several times. I also had to research food interactions with his meds. Eventually, the docs learned to listen to me.

Yes, that is exactly what it was and that is exactly the reaction he had to it. I kept telling the nurses (at 5:30AM) over the phone that something BAD had happened 'cause this was not the same person I left less than 10 hours ago. Of course, afterwards everyone says how commom his reaction was. They said more so in eldery but your comment about the smoking is interesting.

I told them NEVER to give him that again and do you know on the second visit after couple days when my Dad started complaining he couldn't sleep again the nurse actually tells him, "let me see if the Dr can give you an Ativan". OMG, I almost hit the wall when he told me. Thank God he had his witts enough to reconize that was what he should stay away from.

One thing I noticed right off the bat is there are many Dr's helping one patient but they don't seem to communicate with each other and FAMILY really do need to keep track of what's going on.

Sorry to hear about your DH's dad. maybe we should all pray for a miracle.

gaRry, hope you feel better soon. Being sick is never fun.

Jen, I am sorry about your Dad. This must be a tough time of year for you.

It's the original saga...ALL chapters. I printed all 50+ sections and brought them in a green binder as a Christmas treat. Passed it off to those at our dinner table....When the cruise ended it had found a home with Mary Ann. Have you read the saga? I just remembered it because it seemed just the kind of distraction that Mary Ann might need right now. I have one more copy...Christmas red binder... that I'd be happy to put into circulation. Someone send me an address and I'll send it off..All that is required is that the reader pass it on... I don't know who Mary Ann had planned to pass the green copy off to...

By the way, has anyone heard from Denise? She wrote to me after the cruise but hasn't opened the reply and it's been quite a while...
I hope she's well. Lying on the ladies room floor is not a good sign....

Yeah, Love ya, mean it..... :love2:

Sue, I got your pm and sent one back. You'll love it. Del's Wife is quite a story teller.

Stacey, too bad I am going to just miss you. I'm looking foward this trip. I haven't been to Vegas since I was 15. Alot has changed. Hopefully I make it with all that is going on around here. I had to cancel a ski trip MKL Weekend and when my brother found out he said he will stay at my house with Dad if I ever need him to. He's a good guy.

Lynda, last I heard from Denise was when she responded to my email on New Years Day. I know she lives in one of the areas that got alot of rain. Hope her family is ok.

Well, it has finally stopped snowing here. I would say we got about 24-30". The snow stopped and fifteen minutes later the sun came out and it looks absolutely beautiful. We are having a Pot Luck at the neighbor's house tonite for the Pats game. I'm making Veal parm & pasta so I'm going to get cooking & check out for the evening.

Everyone have a great night.

okay when i was in 7th grade (2000) my mom and dad said we were going on a surprise vacation. They didn't tell us where, they just said it was for christmas. so we get to the airport, and they make my sister and and i sit far away, so they could check the bags to Orlando. We get to charlotte (at that point disney used US Airways for travel) and since my dad was handicapped (he had had half of his pelvis removed due to the cancer) we got one of those carts that drives you to the next gait. When we got to the gate and saw the sign said Orlando we immediatly screamed "we are going to WDW". "Nope" my mom said, "not quite". We get to orlando my sister and i plow people over to run to the baggage terminal. When we reached the DCL people, my parents yelled stop. When we realized we were going on DCL we were all excited. We spent a wonderful 4 days in WDW and then headed off to the ship. My sister and I sat in the very very front seats, so we would be the first to see the ship. when the bus got within site of the Magic, we were all excited. Then i got scared. I though we would surely all die if we went on the "titanic" Magic. It was huge! So i had to be drug over the gangplank. We had a nice handicapped suite, 8600. we loved it. So every other year, we go on a Disney cruise to celebrate "Life, and memories" of the wonderful vacation we had with him. Ironically, it was the last vacation he ever took with us. When he died, we went on one that year, and it just so happened that 2004, 2006,.... would be the years we go. And that conlcudes my tale.

Hi all! Good to see so many familiar names for this cruise! Yes, we too got sucked into the fun on the 2004 10-day holiday cruise and rebooked while on board. We're going again for Christmas 2006! Just wanted to drop in to say hello.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Your welcome. It makes me feel better to share it.

karaeric, do you have your info to add to the list if you are going on this cruise too? I would love to put your name on the list we have created. All i need is your stateroom number, your dining (late or main) and your dining rotation preference (APL, PLA, LAP).

Jen, Thank you for sharing your story and I'm glad it made you feel better to talk about it. What a wonderful way to celebrate his life & memory.

Each year I do a team for our Local Community "ACS, Relay for Life" in memory of several friends I have lost over the years to cancer. The night of the event is such a celebration of life of both the survivors (last year over 3000 survivors participated) and the memory of loved ones lost. The name of our team every year is "Smile...There's Hope" :D. BTW, 2 yrs ago our team was top $$$ raiser. $6058.00 for a ten member team. (I'm quite proud of that).

Hi Kara,

Thanks for joining in. Alot of us fell prey to the 2006 Holiday Cruise while on board (got us while we were weak). Actually everyone at our dinner table re-booked. I think Jerri is on a waitlist for one of the 14 day and if that comes through I believe she is gonna cancel this one.

I am going try to get in touch with Denise and ask her to come on over!!!

Hi Everybody !!
I'm jumping in the water looks fine :cool1:
Mary Ann I sent you some pics. Hope you get a laugh. Can I just start calling you Bunny? Or is there another single name name you prefer?
I feel for you east coasters with all the snow. I'm somewhat jealous, but I consoled myself by sitting in the sun yesterday in my bathingsuit wondering if the sand will ever come out. My sister says to think of it as a momento.
Have to make this short as its time to go get Sierra at the bus,
Cheers- Denise
