Hello. This is my first time to this board. My DH and I and are 2 DS are traveling with my parents, my sister and her husband and son, my brother and his family, and my husband's sister and her family, and my niece. There are a total of 18 of us. :grouphug:

We are in 5 category 11 staterooms on deck #6.

Can't wait to go! :boat: :cool1: :boat:

Welcome welcome!

Where are all the other 7/8/06 cruisers!

Our group is 11 in size ranging from 60+ years down to a 7 y/o. Always great cruising with a gang of folks! The time is counting down quickly!

ljql_5969

I have spoken with a few others on the cruise line forum so I know there are others out there! :flower:

Our ages (at the time of sailing) will be : 6, 6, 9, 10, 10, 12, 15, 26, 34, 35, 35, 41, 45, 45, 46, 46, 67, 75

The 9 year old and the 12 year old (my brother's kids) will actually be celebrating their brithdays onboard so they will officially be 8 and 11 the weekend we board! :sunny:

I cannot wait! This will be our first DCL cruise although not the first cruise for my DH and I or my parents. The remainder of the group have never been on a cruise. It sure is expensive to go in July! But, we really wanted to go as a whole family :grouphug: and so that limits the time of year when we can go. I hope it is worth it! (I mean I know I will enjoy it, I am just hoping that the rest of my family does since I am the planner).

From your signature it looks like you have been a couple of times. I guess I will be trying to benefit from your expertise. Have you always gone during the summer? :confused3

I wish they would stop lurking and show themselves! :confused3 :earsboy:

Yes, we will have one birthday a week after the cruise so we are celebrating it on board, too. It's actually for the eldest member of the group so she should get a kick out of it.

It sure is expensive to go in July! But, we really wanted to go as a whole family :grouphug: and so that limits the time of year when we can go.

Same with us. My wife and I always cruise in October/November and the only reason we're going in July is because the rest of our group isn't "available" any other time. They all have kids and can only go when school is out. As for prices, I posted a message on this over on the main cruise boards--we booked in October of 2004 and since then the price on our 4 staterooms has gone up just under $7000! :earseek: :earseek:

From your signature it looks like you have been a couple of times. I guess I will be trying to benefit from your expertise.

Have only been on one cruise--A 4 day. This October is our 2nd one (also a 4 day) and next July is our first 7-day so we're newbies as well!

I wish I realized that the schedules came out that early! I booked in February thinking we were early. For my DH, me and my 2 kids, we paid $5212 for a category 11 (without air)! Not sure if the prices has gone up much since then. I wonder what the prices were when they first came out in October? On second thought, maybe I don't want to know. Everyone in my family is okay with spending that because they all agreed to go but I still would have liked to save some money.

When we first started thinking of cruising (in early 2004), we went to AAA to get prices and none were out for 2005. Well, then in March or April of last year, the prices came out and it was for California. So, AAA told me that the prices for 2006 would come out around the same time this year so that is why I waited. Now I am kicking myself. :guilty:

I have thought about suggesting to everyone to wait until 2007 but don't think I could do that to the kids for a second year in a row since they thought we were going this summer and now they are all set to go next summer!

Hello there! :wave2: My family and I will be on this cruise too. :flower: So far we've managed to get together about 42 people spread out all over the ship in different catagories. I'm wondering what they will do with us at dinner! :grouphug: Try not to worry so much about the cost. We booked early (snagged 4 of the SPH's :teeth: ) and we still paid a lot more than I would have liked to. But if you are cruising with kids and you don't want them to miss school :teacher: , you really don't have much choice. Besides, you have over a year to pay for it! This will be our 4th Disney cruise and we can't wait. My youngest DD will be celebrating her 8th birthday on board. princess:

ljql_5969: glad to see your posts! I've been meaning to send you a post to see how the planning is going. Wish we were there already! :rotfl:

Yeah for your daughter. I think a birthday onboard will be fun. We have 2 kids in our party celebrating that week also. :flower:

Planning is going pretty well. I am still sending my monthly Disney emails to my family to keep them up-to-date. I have been a little concerned as of late with the passport talk, but we'll see. I am just hoping nobody in my family drops out if they have to incur this extra cost. So far my travel agent has said no dates are definite yet. She said they are just suggested dates. :confused3

My parents already have theirs because they went to Italy. Mine is expired and the rest of the people going do not have one at all. :guilty:

I have been keeping them up-to-date about that and the possible cost. I just wish the government would make up their minds and say something definite. Everyone on the boards makes it sound definite which I think it will be eventually, but the website that everyone is referring to just says that they are suggested implementation dates. Who knows? :confused3

Glad to see you joined the thread! :goodvibes

And I wish our countdown was closer too! especially now with all of the updates on disneycruise.com. I am ready to make my Palo reservations!

Thank god I found you all...me and family are have DCL withdraws this summer with the cruise heading west. Until a few minutes ago I forgot what our cruise date was, I just called DCL and was thrilled to find out my fellow cruisers have started to chat. This will be cruise #4 for us, we booked it last summer onboard.

I will be crusing with DH, DD (15 at cruise time) and DS (10 at cruise time). I know my DD would love to start a link for all the kids who will be in "the stack" to chat. She has made alot of friends in the past on board and thru the disboard.

So since we have a year to wait .. sob, sob ;-( I look forward to getting to know ya'll.

Where is everybody from, we live in South Florida.

The majority of my group is from Louisville, Ky. We have one family that is from Southern Indiana. We have 1 boy that will be 15 at the time of the sailing also. I will see if I can convince him to jump on board and check out some messages. :flower:

We also have some 10 year olds going! I cannot wait. This is our first DCL cruise! :goodvibes

We have 3 families coming from North Florida and the rest are coming from Virginia and West Virginia. We have a lot of children going, ranging in age from 4 to 16. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm bummed about the Disney cruise heading west too. :sad2: We've been on a Disney Cruise every summer for the past 3 years. I wanted to do a 3 day this month, but Florida Resident rates never came out. (We're headed to Disney in a couple of weeks for a soccer tournament, so at least we'll get to see Mickey this summer! ::MickeyMo ) I've been hesitating on the passports too, especially for the children since they don't last as long.

I need to start a news letter for our bunch too. I'm certain most of them don't know about this website. :wave2:

Hi gang..

We'll be joining you! We just got off of the Magic this morning after 14 wonderful days from Fl to CA. It was a great cruise! Will be my DW, Tracy, DD Taylor who will be 6 and a half and me Jim.

We were fortunate enough to have one of the Cat 3 rooms for the Panama cruise and it was wonderful. I booked for next year while on board last week and asked for the same room anytime in June or July of next year. But all of the cat3's were gone. Then Danielle said that for the July 8th sailing she had the Walt suite available. I said done. DW almost jumped overboard. She thinks I have lost my mind. So all of you have an invitation to join us for a few little get togethers in that great cabin.

Next year will be our 4th Magic cruise and although we just got home about 6 hours ago..we are already looking forward to next year. I'm looking forward to talking to all of you over the next year and seeing you on board!

I kept up with the repo-thread and it looks like everyone had a WONDERful MAGICal time on board! Do you have any photos posted anywhere? I'd love to see them.

Welcome to the thread, and look forward to meeting you (and everyone) next year!

No pictures posted yet. Just started unpacking this morning but I will get some pictures up somewhere as soon as I can.

We were lucky enough to meet Chuck and Janis in the Walt suite during the cruise and spent some time with them in the cabin. The last two years I always wanted to see that room! Rest assured that because we were lucky enough to get it, we are more than willing to share it for some fun times. I'm told that many times that door is closed the entire cruise! Won't happen on the July 8th cruise....

Okay, I feel better. Hello everyone. Got this from my TA yesterday via email :

"Good Evening!

As promised, here is the latest information in regards to your cruise and passport requirements. It appears that everyone, including children, are going to need passports for any cruise after 2006.

Disney Cruise is requiring valid passports for all 2006 Disney Cruise passengers including children. If you need to get a passport, this link to the US Department of State may be useful to you:"

Anyone else heard this? Is it now "the law"? :confused3 I know it had previously only been a "proposed" thing.

We are back from our Boston trip..boy am I looking forward to next summer's cruise! Even though Boston was great it was exhausting. DH and I have decided cruising is the better way to go for a 7 day trip!! You can relax, have fun and visit interesting places.

Welcome Joanna, I see you are a fellow Floridian, where do you live. We are in south Florida (Coral Springs). Are you also a fellow gator? DH and I have a mixed marriage..me a gator, him a seminole.

Now I have a question...

Is it a little early for hurricanes? I heard from several of my relatives that are going with us today and they are concerned. Just wondering? :confused3

ljql_5969 I like your thinking..lets get stranded, no more work..
Stuck on Castaway Cay... :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Funny you mention hurricanes..I was just sharing with a co-worker my concerns about next year. I live in the Ft. Lauderdale area, so as hurricane experts (LOL) we concluded this was extremely early for this many storms. Last year Charley was at the begining of August, Andrew way back when was mid August. So this many this early isn't common, actually it's a record, 5 name storms by July 11th.

I would get the trip insurance just in case something comes up. We are more then likely driving to the port the morning of the cruise, but I still think I am gonna spend the $$ for the insurance. If you haven't purchased any yet check some of the other sites besides Disney's, theirs is expensive!!

Well I better start obsessing about Emily now..isn't the media great! According to them we are doomed!!! Wish me luck...and all the other Floridians on this cruise.

My kids start back to school next week :teacher: (August 8th) so we've been busy trying to get everybody ready and back in school mode. I can't believe how early they are going back this year, but the good thing is they will be out on May 23rd.

I am having such DCL withdrawls this year we (okay, I) are frantically trying to book a 3 day. Only problem is my DD HS doesn't give us the full years calander. They only tell us the major days off then tell us on a month to month basis the teacher workdays and misc. days off. I hate taking kids out of school but may just do it this year.

Who did everybody book with? I am still with DCL but thinking of switching to a travel agencies if they offer an additional discount.

As of right now we still have early seating for the 4 of us, we are 75% sure we are going to switch to late seating. Our kids are old enough to stay up late and I feel bad that I may be taking an early seating from a family with little ones. So if anybody is wait listed for early dinning on our forum, party of 4 let me know. If I do switch it to late maybe I can give you my seating.

I'm hoping that all the online kinks will be worked out before our time to book Palo's and spa appointments. I can't wait to have Palo's brunch again, it is incredible!!! I would love to do high tea, but DH isn't having any of that so if anybody else has a DH who won't join them maybe we can do a ladies tea. I really wish they would let you take daughters..but adults only.

I highly recommend switching to Dana Allensworth at ***********. She can be reached at **************. Almost guaranteed savings. For our group, we've saved just under 7 *thousand* with her.

The online system worked fine for our cruise this October. I wouldn't worry; It will definitely be ok by the time we book for this one next year! Adults only is the Palo policy, and rightfully so. I'm quite sure some of the ladies in our group will want to go to high tea. I can check with them; I'm sure they'd love to join you.

I booked with Small World and not sure I saved all that much. Definitely don't think we saved 7 thousand. They offer a rebate.

My kids start back to school in 2 weeks (4th grade and 1st grade). My older DS is ready. My younger DS is not ready. LOL!

My DS is also currently a 4th grader. Maybe they can hook up and hand out in the clubs. My DS is addicted to baseball, would play and/or watch 24-7 if allowed and of course loves video games..yuck!!

Good luck with start of school.

My older DS (4th grader) LOVES baseball. His Fall league is starting soon. He is also an avid tennis player. He will turn 10 about a month before the cruise. He has a cousin who will be turning 9 right before the cruise and he is also a baseball nut. And they are both video game nuts! (I am going to have to watch charging priveleges for those arcade cards!!!)

I would love it if they could hook up together. My son is shy about meeting new people so if he knows about meeting someone beforehand, that would be great!

I'll have to send you a picture so your son will know who to be on the watch for!

What airline? I tried booking through travlocity.com and they are saying I cannot book until 330 days out. I did a check to see about flights around that time of year and I am coming back with about $260 or more per person.

I need to check in to group rates also. Southwest is cheaper but the flight times out of Louisville are limited.

Did you book directly with the airline? Maybe the 330 day thing is only for internet bookings. :confused3

Let me know. Thanks!

Hi Everybody,

Only 44 more Monday's (not including today) to go to work before we enjoy our Monday at Sea!!

I almost fainted when I saw the prices for our cruise. Between early booking and moving our onboard reservation to this trip we got a great rate. We had some friends who wanted to go with us, since they are a family of 5 they were looking at the cat 4..ouch was that price high!!

Besides it being blistering hot in south florida nothing else new to report. I wonder were Stuart has been? Hope all is well with him, haven't seen any post from him in awhile.

Have a great day :earboy2:

Marie you're hilarious! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Okay, let's really get technical:

From and including: Monday, August 22, 2005
To, but not including : Saturday, July 8, 2006

It is 320 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date

* Or 10 months, 16 days excluding the end date

Alternative time units:
320 days can be converted to one of these units:

* 27,648,000 seconds
* 460,800 minutes
* 7,680 hours
* 45 weeks (rounded down)

Take your pick! :earboy2: :earboy2:

I can't *believe* the price of the cruise now!! Sofar for our whole group our savings from booking early and then switching to *********** (Dana) are just approaching $8500!!

I don't even want to *know* what the Cat 1 suite is going for now. Jim, I think you got a steal!

At least the media didn't have a weeks advance notice to hype it up. They already cancelled the kids schools for tomorrow and Friday (hmmmm...maybe I can hop on the wonder??). I think I need more luck having the kids house bound for the next few days!!

Hello everyone!

saw this thread and decided to post. Right now we are booked on this cruise. Me, DH and 2 DD 18 & 20. I have been debating about keeping this one or changing to the end of July. I liked this one because the second Pirates of the Carribean movie is due out early July. Thought it would be fun to be on board for that. pirate:

I am also on this cruise with DH and 2 DS 8 and 4. I was tempted to abandon this one for any one of the cheaper cruises in Sept 2006 but am worried about the kids and school. My only solace is the fact that we may be able to see the pirates of the carribean on board with all the hoopla that comes with it. So we'll see how it goes.

Just wondering. On the Magic, what day do you normally book Palo dinner for? :confused3 I was thinking of trying to do the brunch at the first or second day at sea, but was wondering about the dinner. Also, for brunch or dinner, can I book anyone else in my family that wants to go along with us? Or do they have to book separately? :confused3

The brunch is more important to me than the dinner as breakfast is something that my DH and I don't get to sit down and enjoy together on a normal basis and we both love breakfast. Now, I am just hoping I can get in since I am a first time cruiser and will have to wait until all return cruisers have made their reservations before I can make mine. :guilty: :sad2: :sad1:

MBFergie

It has been our tradition to end the cruises with Palo on the last day. Some say there is too much going on but we manage to get it all done without too much stress. As soon as dinner is over we grab the kids and go to the "Till we Meet Again" in the atruim for pictures.

I don't care when we make Brunch ressies for as long as we make them. The food is incredible!!

Don't stress about your timing of making the reservations. I think they save some for each group and then save more for those who didn't know you had to book onboard.

Just wish the time would fly by...we are still hoping to get a 3 day in if the offer Florida resident rates in Jan-March.

Have a great Monday..yuck!!

Thanks Marie! It proabbly sounds crazy, but the breakfast is really the more important of the two meals to me (and I know my DH). We really love breakfast/brunch.

I wish the time would go by faster too! I am so ready to go already. I have my busy time at work right now and I keep trying to look to January or February when things will calm down again and knowing that this cruise is on the other side of a completely, ridiculously crazy time at work, is a good thing to think about.

Thanks for the advice.

Well guess we will be buttoning down the hatches here again in Sth Florida. Thinking maybe after 40 years in the sunshine state some snow might not be so bad.

Some other roof damage and alot of trees are down everywhere. No electricity (thank god for DD laptop!) until who knows when and the city is under a curfew. Guess they are being very strict after all the problems in New Orleans. We live in Coral Springs, it about 15 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale.

Anybody else going crazy getting ready for Christmas!! I could really use a cruise RIGHT NOW!! The weather in here has been bizarre, still warm (don't hate me) but we've been getting alot more rain then usual. It's made it hard to decorate outside, not to mention that last night's rain shorted out all the lights I had on the house and deflated by Santa out front.

So all you with 10 year old boys what are the hot toys. My son is only telling me he wants an ipod and new catchers gear. Expensive, but need some other ideas that don't involve a PS2! Of course my DD14 wants every article of clothing she sees.

Thanks! I have been doing LA Weight Loss. I am trying to lose another 20 lbs. My mom, sister and niece that are cruising with me in July are doing it as well. My mom has lost almost 60 lbs. She's my idol! :teeth:

I will say that based on pictures of the food I have seen on board, I am not sure how good I will be able to be. We did cruise on RCCL in May of this past year after I started the diet and I gained about 5 lbs. But I worked out everyday and took the stairs all the time. A week after I got back and started drinking my water again and getting back into my regular routine, I had lost pretty much all that I had gained. So hopefully, this cruise in July won't be too bad on the diet plan!

Hey there, nice to meet you.
My daughter would love to chat and meet people before we go. Unfortunately she is grounded from the computer for a while though as she neglected a few of her bio homeworks. She too is a Freshman is H.S.. Hopefully she will be back online in a few weeks.

We are about an hr from NYC. Is this your first visit? If so, you should hit Central Park, especially if the weather is nice. The trees should be in bloom for spring and it is absolutely beautiful. Also there is a cool restaurant right outside the park called Jekyll and Hyde. It is somewhat interactive with spooky decore and the staff dress the part. I myself have not been there, but my teen was last year and she loved it. Also the Museum of Natural History and the Planetarium are great as well. They are right by the park. There is always a broadway play if you can get tickets and a museum of wax. I cant remember the name of it I believe it is Madam ......... museum of wax. It is filled with wax celebraties, polititians, historical figures....! It is cool.
Cant wait for the cruise, and yes it is my first Disney Cruise and my first curise in 20 years. The kids have never been. My brother and his family have been twice and love it.
Any pointers, suggestions on how to make the most of it both time and $$ wise is greatly appreciated. We are definately on a budget.
Talk to you

I know about teens being grounded from the computer. Mine gets very limited computer time and I have parental controls galore!

I don't know if you guys drink, but my DH like a beer or 2 on the weekend, since everyday is like a weekend day on the ship he goes through some beer. DCL does not have a problem with you bringing it on board yourself. We even throw a few in the towel bag when we head up to the pools. This is a huge saving for us. I'm not much of a drinker but I may bring my Magic Bullet since it is so small for a pina colida or two. I also lug on a ton of bottled waters.

The first time we went to St. Thomas we just did the cab to Megan's Bay. It was incredible! For lunch we ordered room service sandwiches and I had packed baggies to but them in so we could take them. At the time it wasn't a cost saving thing, just didn't know what they would have at the beach and didn;t want to have to come back because kids were hungry.

St. Maarten we did the Eagle Catamaran and loved it! But sometimes you can find excursions that aren't through DCL that are cheaper.

We've never done excursions on CC, not for trying, twice we've had parasailing cancelled on us due to weather. But it's never been a big deal. Castaway is awesome, if you get tired of the beach there are all the free games a Groupers Pavillion or playing a good game of sand volleyball.

I pretty much tell my kids if they want smoothies and game cards for videos they have to spend their own money. My son plays enough PS2 at home I hate the idea of spending times in a dark room playing more video games when you are on this incredibly beautiful ship.

Start now with 4 envelopes and label Head Waiter, Server, Room Steward and i forget the 4th one. If you stick some $$ each week hopefully by the time you go you have them all filled with the basic amount. And it is one less thing you don't have to charge on the ship!

very good ideas :goodvibes

Regarding bring you own wine, beer and water, doesnt that create a problem when flying? 1- weight wise, 2 - breakage wise and do the airlines have a problem with it?

Bringing our own wine, soda's for shore excursions and a cooler will definately save. Do soda's thru room service cost extra?

About how much are the smoothies, and virgin pina colads - my kids want to try some?
What about the cab rides from the ship to shore excursions? Are they regular "cabs" as in cars or are they Vans that our whole party of 9 can split?

If we should choose to do shore excursions on our own and not thru DCL how do we go about doing that? Can they be pre booked online like with DCL or do you need to do it directly at sight on the island and hope they are not booked up for the day?

Great idea about the tip envelopes. A couple of dollars here and a couple of dollars there will surely add up over the next 23 weeks
Even if it covers one of the tips, that one savings right there :)

Thanks for the info, keep it coming :grouphug:

For the 4 envelopes I think it is Head Server, Server, Asst. Server, and Stateroom Host/Hostess

We cruised on RCCL this past may and brought one of those hand blenders/mixers/whatever you call them (it looks like a boat motor) and used that to mix drinks. My DH packed Margarita mix (that already had tequila mixed in) and Malibu rum in bubble wrap and then put it in our luggage and that worked great. He always enjoyed mixing something up. :stir: We didn't buy the beer until the day of the cruise and then just packed it in our cooler. We didn't want to fly with the extra weight either.

We were glad we brought some alcohol of our own. :drinking1 It helped tremendously with keeping the onboard costs down. We also do alot of our own excursions since we have cruised a couple times now. It is a lot cheaper most of the time. :yay:

That is a good idea about the cruise tip envelopes. My mom started doing that already. I need to do that too!

I drive from South Florida to the ship so it's easy to lug the beer and wine:goofy:. Alot of people have their transportation source stop at the local Publix (grocery store) to pick up beer and wine. Or you can call Shirley with the Perfect Basket and make some type of arrangements for some beer and misc. stuff to be sent to your room.

If you have a favorite wine you like with dinner you can bring it to the table and they may charge you a corkage fee. We've never been charged but yet, but do know they have the right to.

Don't remember cab fares but a search on the reg. DCL board will tell you or just start a new thread. We were the first off the ship once and went to Megan's Bay. For the first 45 minutes there was hardly anybody there..peace and beauty!

I think the smoothies and virgin drinks are around $3.50 - $4.00 plus tip is automatically included. One a day can add up quickly. I will be bringing one of those portable things to mix them in, they are great!! (Did anybody see Rodney show where they gave kids Pina Colida that had alcohol.. funny.. :rotfl2: hopefully I won't do that.)

Soda is free with dinner and lunch in the restaurants but charged for at bars and room service. Also, they are coke products. Yeah!! :Pinkbounc

Anybody else with teens :hippie: you may want to book them the Castaway Cay teen tour. My DD at first was "why did you book that" then was glad I did after she meet so many friends who were going. From what I've heard it always sells out, so if they decide they don't want to go they can sell the ticket to somebody else in the "Stack". Elizabeth loved it! They get to go to places on CC that nobody else gets to see.

What exactly is the castaway teen tour? I did not see it on DCL site.
How much is it?
does it have to be prepaid, you said they could "sell" their ticket.

Does anyone know how to book excrusions seperate from disney. Is there a online site or something or do you have to wait till you get to an Island and then book? I hear it is cheaper but is it worth it?????????

Two web sites to check out...

http://www.cruisesonly.com/shoretours/default.asp?shoreRef=cs

http://www.shoretrips.com/

Also do a web search: St. Thomas shore excursions and you may find more stuff. I have info on private sailboats but they only hold 6 people. It is what we would love to do but haven't decided if we have the $$ yet.

I can personally recommend the Eagle Catamaran in St. Maarten. We loved it, and kids asked if we could book it again. The snorkeling wasn't great but the boat was a blast!!

Castaway Teen excursion:
The Wild Side (C-07)
Chart your own course and explore the wild side of the island. Snorkeling, biking and sea kayaking are all part of this 4-hour adventure exclusively for teens.
Activity Level: Active
For Ages: 13 To 17
Adult Price: $35 (ages 13-17)
Child Price: N/A
Duration: 4 hours

Thanks for the info. This will be helpful, but at a quick glance, it does not seem to be any cheeper then thru DCL. I would think booking thru DCL would be a more secure thing to do, especially if you not saving a good amount of money - yes??????

When my DH have cruised (with lines other than DCL), we have just found that we liked booking our own excursions for a couple of reasons:

#1. We did find some things that were cheaper :thumbsup2 (due to just doing a tour instead of having the "free lunch" that is included in many of the excursions offere through a cruise line.)

#2. We found it more flexible than following the cruise lines schedule of tours (for example, in Key West, we did the train tour. The earliest time RCCL offered the tour was 9:30 a.m. We got off the boat early with our friends and went by the train and got right on. We were practically the only ones on the train. Then, when we got off, the RCCL crowd came, filled up the whole train and it looked really crowded. We then had time to hit all the other hot spots for shopping and enjoying a drink before others. :teeth: )

#3. We were able to head out and do something else after we finished our own "excursion" instead of having to wait for the entire group to return to the ship. :woohoo:

So, those are just a few reasons why we enjoy doing excursions on our own. :cool1:

Also is there a formal or semiformal night where everyone gets really dressed, or is it mostly nice caual attire?

Hey Lynne-

Excited that you guys will be on board..if I remember correctly you were with a group from New Orleans area..was you DH the principal? A year ago I developed a underwater camera, had no idea what it was from. It was from the Golden Eagle Catamaran trip. (What a BLAST that was!!) I have a great picture of Dawn and family. I will have to get it to you. I thought about that whole group after Katrina. How did you guys make out?

Elizabeth will be thrilled to "know" somebody onboard. With the start of HS she isn't online much. I will tell her to post something soon.

Linnied-According to this board alot of people do. Trust me when I tell you it can save huge $$. The formal night has a mixture of dress..some all out with long gowns and tuxs, majority are nice dresses (evening type) and men in suits. Last 2 cruises I made son wear a suit, don't know if I will this time, but a shirt and tie for sure. Clothing at dinner can get to be a real heated debate on the boards!

Thanks for the info. We are all so excited and want to make the most of this trip. It is a gift from my family, as I would never be able to afford it on my own. The more money I can save on the little things, the more times I can say "yes" to the kids for their onboard stuff and excursions.
Any tips and tricks to saving here and there is greatly welcomed.

do all the excursions get booked up by the CC members before us newbies get a opportunity to make ressies?

We want to do the dolphin encounter on St. Martin, but cant book till 75 days prior, will we have a shot at it or will it be booked up by the time I get around to booking. I am not getting up at 2:45 am to book :crazy2: ( well I dont think so anyway)?

I'm putting a list together of everyone on this cruise so we can all get an idea of who is going, names, etc, before we sail. 6526 8 Patricia Adam (DS11) Andrew (DS9)

We have chartered the Marlin Prince in St. Thomas (marlinprince period"dot" com) for a fishing excursion for our group. It should be a lot of fun.

Again, sorry we will not be cruising with you. Now I have to tell DD Taylor (6)....this will be the hard part! But I at least moved the reservation to the 10 day Holiday cruise in December so we still have that to look forward to. Wonder if that Cat6 I have now has a piano in it?

Hey Marie. We just started practices here in Ky and our games start after Derby Day in May.

My husband and I must be crazy because we thought we could coach both of our sons' teams. We really do enjoy it though. They just changed the age requirements up here and the cutoff date for birthdays is April 30th and since my oldest won't turn 10 until June, he got held back in machine pitch baseball. Okay with us as we hear the first year of kid pitch baseball consists of a lot of walks and not a whole lot of hitting. He is one of the oldest on his team this year due to the rule change. But, he is fine with that.

My youngest is in coach pitch and with a field full of 5, 6 and 7 year olds every practice is an adventure to say the least! :goodvibes

I have never been to tea either but I am just so excited about being on the ship! I have cruised with my husband several times, but I love Disney and I am really excited for my boys. I cannot believe how quickly the months are going by now! If you don't mind me joining you, I would love to! Go ahead and count me in. Do you need me to do anything to increase the reservation to 2 people? I am a first time cruiser so I cannot make ressies for another 14 days. Just let me know if I need to do anything.

Also, meeting anywhere with everyone is fine with me. I am like you Marie in that I will be the one to unpack, get the room setup, etc. If I wasn't there, my DH and 2 DS would wear the same thing everyday because the didn't realize there was more in their suitcase! :rotfl: But wherever and whenever is fine with me.

I hope whoever gets the Category 1 is a Disboard member. I was really looking forward to seeing that cabin. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Talk to you all later!

When does your son turn 10, mine turns 10 on June 17th. The Little League age change is for all of the US so my son is also baseball 9. Our league does 9 & 10 year olds together, but start pitching 1/2 thru the 8 year old season. I loved when they went to kid pitch, first few weeks were walk fest but then it got exciting. Both me and DH are on our Little League board and we really need this trip to unwind after this season! I do schedules and with all our fields messed up from Hurricanes it's been a nightmare.

I already have tea for 2 so you don't have to do a thing. When we go we will just tell them who is from what stateroom. We can also try to add afew once we get onboard if more want to join.

Just a recommendation, unpack all your clothes into the drawers and store your luggage under the bed. We also bring a popup hamper for in the closet then when it gets full I seperate clothes by loads into garbage bags I bring and store in the empty luggage. When we get home the clothes are ready for the laundry room, already seperated. We love the over door shoe holder for all our stuff. I am bringing it to NYC even since the room is small and there will be 4 girls..eeks!

Okay...where is everybody else!!

I loved when they went to kid pitch, first few weeks were walk fest but then it got exciting. Both me and DH are on our Little League board and we really need this trip to unwind after this season! I do schedules and with all our fields messed up from Hurricanes it's been a nightmare.

Good luck on scheduling the fields. :)

I already have tea for 2 so you don't have to do a thing. When we go we will just tell them who is from what stateroom. We can also try to add afew once we get onboard if more want to join.

Sounds good. Looking forward to it! :thumbsup2

I am like you. I have always unpacked right away when my DH and I have cruised. I bring a laundry sack too on vacations and usually wash clothes early in the morning while I take some alone time. I am glad the Disney cruise has laundramats on the ship. I will probably walk a few laps and soak up the morning sea air.

We love the over door shoe holder for all our stuff. I am bringing it to NYC even since the room is small and there will be 4 girls..eeks!

Okay...where is everybody else!!

I have not gotten one of those yet. What brand do you have?

Also, have fun in NYC. I have always wanted to go there!

I just purchased a cheap clear over the door holder. I think I got it a target on sale for $2.99. I have even seen them in the $1.00 store.

One cruise treat I give myself is I pack everything that needs to be ironed and as soon as I get onboard I fill out the dryclean slip and have it done on board. Ironing only is 1/2 price of dry cleaning, very reasonable and when I get ready no running to iron!! It's the small thing that make a gal happy.

Our group is finally paid in full! :cool1:  :cheer2: :woohoo:

I have started making reservations! This is great! I thought I would have a difficult time getting in to things. Many people on the boards made it sound kind of bleak for first time cruisers. I got in to Palo for dinner on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and my TA is getting all 11 adults in for breakfast sometime that week! :grouphug:

Can't believe how close we are now!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Wow...that 2 hours of sleep I got was a killer....couldn't go to sleep prior to 3AM! Anyway, it was worth it!

Got into the Dolphin Excursion (7:30AM) in St. Maarten, Coral Island and World Drive in St. Thomas, and Parasailing and the Glass Bottomed Boat on Castaway Cay. Got my wife in for some spa appointments too and registered the kids (6 and 3) in the Oceaneer's Club.

Stupid question...I assumed that they'd bill immediately, but no credit card info was requested...is it billed at the time of the cruise on the final bill? Just curious....

THANKS! :cool1:

Glad everybody is happy with reservations.

Looks like a bunch of us will be doing the Stingray Adventure at 10:00am. I wonder how many they have at a time?

Back to the meets..

I still vote for in front of the stack, level 10 during the sail away party. Who wants to join me?

We can also do a meet on Sunday Deck 7 at sometime, maybe mid morning around 10am, for those who miss sail away party.

I am so excited about being back on the Magic. My DD is already negotiating her curfew. I hope there are alot of great teens onboard! It's always a good day when the 15 y/o is happy.

I would love to get together and meet. This is my first time on the Magic but I have cruised before so hopefully it won't take me long to get accustomed to the boat. Not sure what the rest of my family will do without me (just kidding). I can meet you there before the sail away party for a bit before getting back with my kids to watch the singing and dancing!

Can you believe it is almost May already?!?!!? My whole family is getting excited. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc I cannot believe school is almost out.

I too do not think I can make a meet during the sail away party. I am in a group of 9 and they all want to attend that party - me too since it is my frist cruise in 20 years.

Does anyone know what time the meet the character or welcome aboard breakfast is on Sunday? We made Polo brunch ressies (only day left) at 10:30 and I really dont want to miss the other breakfast.

MBFergie

Nobody would be missing the party. The stage is on deck 9. The stack is on deck 10 that overlooks the stage. It's actually is a great place to be during the sailaway party. Large area to dance and gather. Trust me I would NEVER miss the Sailaway party!! We can meet on deck 9 if you'd rather. It just gets extremely crowded!! I've done it both ways.

Sorry, again, Im going to be with 10 other people ranging from 2 to 65 and Im not going to drag all of them up to deck 10 during the sail away party and/or break away from them. It's also going to be pretty darn loud up there and it will be hard to hear each other. If it was later/earlier when things werent as hectic then I could break away, but if its going to be during the sail-away, then Im afraid Im out. :rolleyes1

Our ship is full...

I called DCL to find out about Florida Resident Rates on our sailing (there are non). The cm told me our ship is full. If I switch dates I can get a Cat 6 for same price as my Cat 9 and my son could play on the baseball all-star team. Only problem is there are not Eastern cruises with FRR and we don't have an interest in Western.

DW and I are flying in on Friday the 7th and, since MK is open till 2am that day for Disney resort guests, we've picked up day MYW-Hopper passes and will do MGM and MK that day. We're meeting up with our bunch that are staying at the Boardwalk Inn and having dinner @ Chef Mickeys and then DW and I will hit MK till we're unable to move anymore and then head back to our hotel and go to sleep. They are staying at Boardwalk, we are staying at the Swan. We will be at Port by 10am on 7/8.

I can't wait for my kids to see the ships. They saw the Delta Queen and The Belle of Louisville this week alot because of Derby and they kept asking how big the "Disney boat" was in comparison. So I will be thrilled to see their faces that first day at port!!!!! :lmao:

I take it the 14 year olds are twins...maybe friends...cousins. I have a 15 y/o daughter going and 10 y/o son. She was looking to chat with some other kids going on the cruise around her age.

We did the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St. Martin and loved it. Last year we did a speed boat in St. Thomas that took us over to St. John to snorkle..it was amazing!! We have also done our own cab to Megan's Bay, what a beautiful spot. This year we chartered a sailboat to take us out for 8 hours in St. Thomas/John.

On this ship we love bingo, shows, theme nights for adults, relaxing on deck 10 and reading on the chairs on deck 4. A bad day on the Magic is better then a great day at work!!

1) Relax! Breath!

2) Alot of people stay at the Raddison night before. I've stayed there too. Very nice pool area. They have suites that will sleep 5. http://www.radisson.com/capecanaveralfl

3) Personally we like boarding ship as early as possible to start the vacation sooner so I would skip the Space Center, save till Saturday when you get off ship.

4) Pro of Disney Excursions: If you are late getting back the ship will wait for you. Con: Price is a little higher then booking on your own. If you check out site http://www.shoretrips.com/ its another service for booking on your own. If you are interested in a private sail or fishing boat I can get you info on that. This link is a great info on beaches in St. Thomas
http://www.usviguide.com/st._thomas_us_virgin_islands/st._thomas_boat_charters/st._thomas_day_sail_charters.html. Alot of great beaches! Also, where we dock there is a shopping area and a Cold Stone Creamery (it's a must stop for my DD, even though we have one here 1mi away). I highly recommend the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St. Martin. My kids still talk about it and that was 3 years ago. The snorkling was okay, the boat ride was a blast!!

5) Renting a car is a great option. If you stay at the Raddison you can take car back and the Avis I believe will shuttle you to the port. Since we live in FL we drive and never used Disney Transportation, but I hear it isn't cheap! With 5 probably cheaper for the car rental. Don't know if you like a beer or cocktail, if you do you can pick it up and bring on board with you. Great way to save some $$. DCL is okay with this.

6) For the time after the cruise. Check out Ron John Resort. Looks awesome!! http://www.ronjonresort.com/ I would go to Space Center when you get off the ship. There is always Disney or Universal too. We HATE the parks during the summer, but Universal is great if you stay at one of the onsite hotels (Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, Portofino..all Lowes Hotels). The hotel guest get to go in special quicker line for every ride by showing hotel key. Well worth the extra $ you may spend to stay there. If you give me an idea of what you are thinking for after the cruise I may have other ideas. There is a semi dude ranch around, fishing-lake or ocean, beautiful state parks, or shopping...whatever let me know.

7) Are you still relaxed and breathing?

MBFergie
05-19-2006, 09:50 AM
one last thing...if you haven't booked anything for Palo I highly recommend at least the brunch, but dinner is awesome too. There is also high tea. The spa onboard is nice but pricey. You can book that in advance too.

When you have time just read over trip reports and the main board. You will get lots of ideas. www castawayclub com is a great site to check out. They have menus and the navigators posted (navigator is a paper given out the night before showing all activities for the following day). Remember that things may change on our actual cruise, but it will give you an idea of what will be going on. I ususally try to get one early from room steward and go over with my family at dinner. We decide what everybody wants to do.

hopefully i've helped ease your mind. you are gonna love it. Are the kids boys or girls?

I will be looking in to the info you mentioned. We are bringing our DS 14 his friend from school (DS+FFS? 14) and our DD 7. I know the boys want to go snorkling so I know thats available for them. My DD just wants to have fun...the idea of going to the space center was I figured we have a couple of hours in the begining to burn... I thought to use them at the space center... just to say I went there... I heard it is a neat place to go but I did not want to spend to much time there. Is Palo only for adults, no kids right?

I don't even want to hear about hurricane season. I am still fighting with my insurance company for a new roof...we had 4 leaks thanks to Hurricane Wilma last October and they still won't give me a roof...ahhh! Hopefully I will resolve this before the next batch of storms start brewing.

I think I read somewhere this morning on one of these threads and now I cant find it - that there is a cold stone creamery where the ship docks in St. John/St. Thomas. Did I imagine that or is that true?

MBFergie
06-06-2006, 08:51 PM
Yes there is a Cold Stone Creamery in St. Thomas. When you get off the ship it is to the left off all the shopping, kinda between the ship and the tram. Ask the crew memebers, last time we saw alot of ship personel in there or at the internet cafe that was next to it. Beware they are on Island Time, therefore very slow! For whatever reason my DD loves to stop there (we have one less the 1 mile from the house..go figure).

I am really getting excited too     !!

We are all excited here too! :cool1: :woohoo:

My oldest DS turned 10 on 6/6! So yeah for him! His birthday party has me occupied right now or I would be bouncing off the walls waiting for our sail date to get here!!!

I thought that Pirates of the Caribbean was going to be coming out the week before we leave. It is cool that it is just coming out the day before! I hope we get to see it on the boat! popcorn::

Talk to y'all later!! :wave2:

I wonder if somebody ended up getting into the Walt Disney suite? If nobody is in the suite for the cruise, would they (cast members) let you peek in it? :confused3

I would love to just see the inside of that room! :goodvibes

Couple of little questions.

Is anybody doing door signs? I can't decide.

Leanne (sp?) are you giving your 10 y/o sign out priviliges, still conflicted on this. I think he will be okay... Also tell you Birthday Boy..Happy Birthday. My DS has 9 more days to turn 10. How is his baseball season going?

Yes we are all doing door signs. None of the kids on our good will have sign out access.

ljql_5969
06-08-2006, 05:32 PM
I have given him sign out priveleges bu told him they can be taken away very quickly.

Baseball was going well but we have hit kind of a slump and we have had ALOT of rainouts and make up games. Hit a lot of parent vacations so we have kids missing all the time. Hope your season is going well.

I did door signs for all 5 of the cabins in our party! :cool1:

I am attempting door signs for at least our cabin. There are two others in our party but dont know if I will get around to doing for them. Computer problems and my poster program is stuck in my other computer that wont power up :sad2:

My 11 year old will have sign out privilages, but like you ljql - they can be revoked.

I have a few questions for you pro's :

What is the disembark routine for US citizens?
Do we have to get off the ship by 9 AM?
We have a late afternoon flight and want to stay on board as long as possible because we do not know what to do until 3PM when we have to arrive at the airport!!!

Also we are huge krispy Kream lovers  - where and when are these served onboard :listen:

:Pinkbounc :bounce: :dance3:

MBFergie

Typically you disembark after your breakfast. If you have early dinner you have early breakfast. You cannot really wander the ship afterwards because they are cleaning up getting ready for the next cruise. Two years ago we were not able to disembark due to Hurricane Charlie causing problems and we were stuck onboard, even then nothing was open.

Have you considered going to the Kennedy Space Center http://www.nasa.gov/centers/kennedy/about/visit/index.html. You could always head back to Orlando and go to some of the outlet malls, downtown Disney or one of the short attractions like Ripleys Belive it or Not on I-drive. http://www.ripleysorlando.com/

I know the Krispy Creams are served on the breakfast buffet up in Topsiders. You may beable to get them at sit down breakfast too.

Baseball is going great. My DH coaches DS and they won their division championship. Now they are playing a Select Tournament (best 9 y/o) then we have All Star Try Outs. Don't think we will be on that because of cruise.
Hopefully the rain will stop and you have a great end to your season.

Marie,

I was reviewing our schedule and I don't know if my stomach will be able to handle Palo Brunch and Palo High Tea on the same day. Our brunch is reserved for Thursday with my whole family :grouphug: and then I think the high tea that you had reserved is on Thursday also. I think I am going to have to regretfully decline because I think I would be sick to my stomach if I ate that much. :sad2: I'm really sorry.

regarding the disembark - jee I am not even on board yet and I am concerned with getting off :guilty: - since we have the late seating, then we would eat breakfast that day say around 9 ish, and then disembark around 10 ish?

Welcome Shanfl..What part of florida are you from? We live in South Florida.

Lin-I think 10ish is on the late side to disembark. Once you are done eating they kinda rush you off the ship. I am thinking late breakfast was 8ish, I know early breakfast is really early!! Have you decided on your DD curfew time? My stictist rules are NO KIDS IN ROOM & DON'T GO IN OTHERS KIDS ROOMS UNLESS WE GIVE PERMISSION (can't find me is not permission) and at the end of the evening no walking to room by yourself! I would rather she walk a new friend to her room and I wil meet her wherever she is.

I finished all my paperwork online today   now to just pack and get on board!

I spoke to DCL today. All of our documents are in progress and should be sent out in the next few days. They send them out UPS 3 day select so I would say by the end of next week we should be doing the DOC DANCE!

Linnie - 10am is way too late to disembark. They kick you out right after breakfast so if you're early seating, expect to be out around 8, late seating around 9 - 930am.

I have not posted anything for a long time. My husband and I have been building a house for the last 6 months, so we have been a little busy. We have a very large group getting together for the cruise (11 cabins, I think). We can't wait! It's my family's 4th Disney cruise, but our 1st to the Eastern Caribbean. I need some help from you guys. We want to do a beach excursion on our own in St. Maarten. Can anyone give me any ideas? And want program are you using for your door magnets?

I think we may be going to Orient Beach on our own by cab. They have alot of stuff to do near by like jet skis and parasailing. Beware: it's very European aka naked people. There is the other beach where the airplanes fly right over you..forgot the name though.

You can print the magnets with any publisher type program. You just have to get the magnet paper or some lamanate the print and use stickable magnets. I purchased a tape role that has sticky on one side and magnet on other that I use to put up stuff on fridge, I think that is what I will use if I do them.

My DD is even getting excited. She was on reading everything today.

This is Maho Beach. We thought about going there but my DH wasn't sure.

We're doing the Pinel Island Snorkle Tour and then will head over to Maho beach so I can get clipped by a 747. ;)

I believe DW has used Quark for creating our door signs. We combine our door signs with pictures from previous cruises, too. See attached:

http://www.*********************/disney04/images/100_0762.jpg

Obviously since that sign was from our first cruise, we didn't have any cruise pictures to share. Now we have plenty such as:

http://www.*********************/disney05/images/100_2529.jpg

which was when DW was invited to sound the Mickey Whistle on Cruise #2.

So what's happening with this?

I've attempted to organize things a couple of times to no avail. My thought was to meet on the secret deck 7 verandah (as I've done on past cruises) around 3pm on embarkation day before the sail away party happens and before things get hectic.

The other idea thrown out here was DURING the sail away party.

Which is happening, if any? Nobody wanted to provide stateroom details :confused3 so I suppose we'll just all bump into each other here and there on board that is, if we know what each other looks like.

What does everyone think? Personally I think meeting during the sail away party will be difficult due to all the loud noise/music/dancing/and PEOPLE. It'll be impossible to talk. Anyway, whatever the masses choose. I'm not leaving my group if the meet is during the sail away party, though. :rolleyes1

So what's happening with this?
I don't care where we meet. I'll say that since this is not my first cruise but it is our first Disney cruise (and my kid's first cruise period). So, I can meet for a bit but will want to get back to them as they experience all their "firsts" :wizard:  on that first day.

We will be on the boat early as we are staying in Cocoa Beach and have rental cars. So we plan on being there when the port opens (that's 10:00 a.m. right? Or is it 10:30? :confused3 )

We live in Coral Springs. AAAH this weather is so hot and humid lately!!

I would love to meet everybody, but if my luggage arrives to stateroom I won't be meeting at 3. Maybe for those of us who are arrive to port early can meet there. I would love for the kids to meet then, I also will be getting there 10ish.

Oh, I hope they come tomorrow, we are all getting together for Fathers Day and that would be great if we have the papers to day dream over and fill out what ever needs to be filled out

As far as meeting - just pick a place and a time and who ever shows up shows up, if you try to "ask" a thousand of us you will get 1,000 ideas, times, locations
Maybe everyone could post a yes or no so you have an idea :)

I received mine  :goofy:  but we live in Sth Florida so maybe it arrived quicker for us. If you did go thru a TA it will go to them, then they mail it out to you.

Much smaller then usual though. Our last cruise each person received a book. Maybe since I did everything on line...it's one small booklet.

Here are some meet options:

1) Inside terminal around 11ish for those who will be arriving early. Since we don't have to stand in line this is now a great option!

2) 3:00pm on Deck 7

3) By the stack on Deck 10 right before the sail away. (great location to be for sailaway)

Not necessarily. The TA can choose who they are sent to. For example we had all four sets of documents sent to me since the rest of our crew live in Canada and we didn't want to deal with cross-border issues. You should check with your agent or call DCL, give them your file number, and ask them where they were sent to.
