Careful - the port wont be open that early and if its hot outside you're going to be pretty miserable standing there in the humidity. You might want to shoot for 10-ish.

I wish they had pirate night when my kids were little. Now there is no chance of them dressing up.

if I have a rental car could I drop off the luggage :cool1: and the car and catch a shuttle back to the port by 10? and if I do that my wife  and kids wait at the hotel for the 11 o'clock shuttle to the port and meet me there... so she and the kids won't have to wait in the humidity :sunny: and lines as long. or what time is the earliest I could drop the luggage? :confused3

06-16-2006, 09:03 PM
That sounds like a logistical nightmare. I guess theoretically its possible however I would just as soon hire an outside company like Tiffany Towncar to bring you to port.
To answer your question, the earliest theyll accept luggage is 10am, however they arent going to let you drop off luggage by yourself and then take off. That'd be a huge security risk anyway. If they did this then who knows what people could give them to bring into the terminal!
suRfergiRl91
06-17-2006, 07:40 AM
I would just take whole family to drop off luggage. If they are accepting luggage it means the terminal is open. They would not have to wait outside very long. Then you can leave and take the car back.
For the best answer on alot of questions you should search or ask on the main disboard for disney cruises.

Keep in mind some shore excursions DO sell out quickly. If you dont have access to do stuff online, you're best to split your party up and have some people head for Palo ressies, another group to head for Spa ressies, and the last group to head for the Shore Excursion desk. This way you can cover all your bases.
You want to pretty much ignore them, too, when we're filing in to the ship as they direct us to Topsiders/Parrot Cay - Just tell them you want to get in line to make reservations - they will understand.

Is your DS wearing a tie on formal night? What about a suit coat? :confused3 I think I am going to go for the tie with my 2 DS but not sure if they will wear the jacket. (Actually my 10 year old already told me he does NOT want to wear a jacket but I thought if I knew of other kids wearing them, I might convince him!)
My 10 year old is so excited about meeting your son! He was asking about him the other day and wondering if they would share the same interests and if he would really want to hang out and what is he like and so on! My nephew is turning 9 the day before the ship leaves so hopefully the three of them will have a ball together. :)

Well, we were up in Canada this past weekend and just got home a couple of hours ago. Dropped the docs off to the rest of our crew that will be flying down on 7/5 for 3 days in the parks before the cruise. They were overly excited. Was so funny, actually. We went out to lunch and were talking about the trip and as soon as we sat down on the radio we hear a song that in the chorus goes, "I'm goin' to Disneylaaaaand". How apropos. Has anyone ever heard of this song? Who sings it?
We also picked up a couple of bottles of icewine for after dinner @ Palo so we're getting stuff together now. Single digit dancing soon! :cheer2: :cheer2:

my dd does not want a door sign, she can't believe i am even thinking about it..oh well, that gives me more incentive to get it done in time!!
ljql- i have not purchased any dress up clothes for my son so i don't know if he will have a jacket, definetly a tie. if i find a jacket that isn't ridiculusly priced i think i will have him get one. he looks so handsome dressed up, usually he is in t-shirts and basketball type shorts so the change will be nice. if your son likes ps2 & baseball as you said they will get along great. my son is pretty easy going, likes to keep busy and have fun. he seems shy but once he hangs around somebody for awhile he's not. maybe while we wait in the terminal i will bring cards or uno, something a group can play to break the ice.
mousetrainer-my dd is also 15. she hangs out with alot of older kids (incoming jrs). i hope the stack is great for the teens..boy if they aren't happy NOBODY is happy!

Hi everyone!
My sister, 8 year old daughter, and I will be cruising on the Eastern 7-08-06 Magic. Anyone else have an eight year old daughter?
This is our second Disney cruise, although it is our first 7 night trip. We are staying at Old Key West for three days first and then on to the ship. Can't wait! This is my first real vacation in 2 1/2 years...I've been in Graduate school and just finished in May. I have put my poor child on the back burner, so now it is time to CELEBRATE!!

We have reservations for dinner at Palo's for our first night on board, but I really hate to ditch my kid on the very first night, although she can't wait to go to the Oceaneer Lab. She loved the Oceaneer Club when we went on the four night cruise several years back. She never wanted to do anything with us!
Isn't there a tea with Wendy or something? Do I need to make reservations for her to do that? I hate that we can't do the Tea with her. We have done a mother daughter Tea at Christmas every year since she was three. It's a huge event at our house. I wish there was something I could do with her!!!

On St. Martin we're doing the Pinel Island Snorkle in the morning and then in the afternoon we're doing the Island Drive & Explorer Cruise.
I, too, would love to go and see the planes land at Princess Juliana Airport, however it looked at the flight schedules and it doesn't look like they have any 747's landing on Tuesdays. I'll have to look again.
St. Thomas, half of our party is doing the Paradise Point Tram as well as the Atlantis Submarine while the other half is going on a day excursion on the Marlin Prince (http://www.marlinprince.com) to go deep-sea fishing.
Once you get chicken pox, I believe you are immune to it for the rest of your life.
9 of our party will be at Boardwalk Inn from 7/5 - 7/8 prior to the cruise. My wife and I, however, are flying in on 7/7 and overnighting at the Swan.

EEKS! Chicken Poxs!
I hate the stress of before a vacation keeping everybody healthy. Thankfully my DS isn't going to be in camp this or next week.
We still haven't decided what to do in st. martin. I think I am going to research the french side some and set up a mini tour and a few hours at the beach. Since we live 10 minutes from the beach it's not a big deal to go there, but DH is NOT going to go for shopping either. What did you read about crime at Orient? I have the Eagle Catamaran excursion booked, need to cancel that soon.
I am saving the tea time. I will send you an email with my name in case we don't hook up onboard and you can call me on the ship. There is a good chance I won't even go because I will be rushing to get there from a massage to be ontime, even though I have never done a "proper" tea and would like to try it. AHHH..I am babbling!!
If you use firefox you will have problems logging on to DCL. I even have problems sometimes with AOL. The best service is when I go thru IE. Also, sometimes switching from high to low band or low to high band helps too.
There is a tea with Wendy. I think you go to one of the desk to get the tickets. It's over by the excursion desk, forget what it is called though. If you go on the main board and do a search for tea with wendy i am sure you can get all the info.
I have sooooo much to do and so little time to do it!! Where did the time go. I will be the lady wearing the same clothes everyday unless I get myself to the mall here soon. Work is really interfering with my cruise planning, thank God I can dis from work.
This time in 2 weeks we will all be in st. martin doing who knows what :confused3 ..but not working. :cool1:

For C can I sugguest deck 10 in front of the stack that over looks the stage. In the past we would meet there about 15 minutes before the sailaway party starts.
For A we can meet by the televisions opposite the counter, closest to the ship entrance. If all goes well we are going to try to be there right when the terminal opens.
For B I am assuming Deck 7 Aft, the secret veranda that ain't so secret any more. (Teen parents...if your kid is MIA check here or in front of the spa very late at night!!)

Oh wait till you see the kids that are in our lot. Sometimes it's like cats and dogs. This is going to be an interesting trip!
Alright, so we are going to be at the terminal around 10-1030am for sure. I will have a red baseball cap on and a red shirt - that should make me fairly easy to spot. If anyone sees me, feel free to say hello. Provided it's not raining, DW and I will make our way back to the deck 7 verandah around 3 and if anyone wants to meet there, fine and dandy too. So, hopefully we'll see a few people! Also, we're staying in 6524 with the rest of our party in 6526, 6528, and 6530.
Martini tasting does sound like big fun. Any ideas when it is exactly? I think www.castaway club.com (remove the space) has recent navigators.
Also, has anyone heard about special 4th of July menus that they have? I know it's not on our sailing however I'm hoping to snag one of the leftovers. My travel agent, Dana, at MIC DAN.COM wanted one.

hope to hear from you on 7/8..hopefully our ds will hit it off.
i wanted to share with everybody this info on orient beach, bikini bay. I think this is where we are going to go in the morning, then head to ship for lunch, son in clubs, DH to a casino and then some shopping for me and DD. this was a reply from the tapas bar and grille on bikini beach http://www.sxm-restaurants.com/orient/bikinibeach/index.html
Lockers are at Bikini in front of the Snack bar deck (Monokini).
We also have towels and boueys for rent.
Watersports doesn't belong to me, but they have jetski, boogie boards, jetskis, parachute boat, bananaboat, etc.rea.
now what is a boueys for rent?? here is a link to orient beach showing all the different sections http://home.carolina.rr.com/photos2005/LargeOrientPanorama.htm
the club orient section is where the unclothed hang out, even though you may see some others thru out other areas. orient beach is really long (over 1 mi) and many say the bikini bay area is very nice and good for families.

Bikini Beach looks awesome. Thanks for that info. Our crew has been checking out St. Maarten sites all week trying to figure out what beach to go to. Even though my family lives in Florida near the beach we never get sick of it. Does anyone know if buses or taxis will take you to the French side of the Island? And what are their fares?
MBFergie
06-30-2006, 05:54 AM
Cabs will go to French side. Somebody posted that a family of 3 was $15 or $16 each way and said to try to negotiate. If I learn more, I will share. Did you find out about car rental? I saw one of your post on that.

Great Minds must think alike..at 10ish this morning I was smiling (I think the car next to me thought I was up to something) thinking about how in 1 week I would be entering the terminal. I've been running crazy all morning getting all the errands done for the week, getting the landscaping trimmed up and pool balanced so I don't have anything to do for the next few weeks. Now I get to start packing on Monday..YEAH! (anybody have any elves that unpack and do laundry for sale for 7/16)
Leanne I see you do Pampered Chef. I use to it many years ago and have lost one of my favorite recipes. It was a PC Jambalya. I think it was in PC More Stoneware Sensations, since that book is missing from my collection. It was great! Always a big hit at Madri Gras theme shows in February/March. Anyway, can you see if you have a copy of it or can track it down if you are part of any groups. Thanks..I have a friend watching the dog and wanted to make it for him.

Leanne I see you do Pampered Chef. I use to it many years ago and have lost one of my favorite recipes. It was a PC Jambalya. I think it was in PC More Stoneware Sensations, since that book is missing from my collection.
Jumpin' Jambalaya
1/2 cup green bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup celery, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup onion, coarsely chopped
2 garlic cloves, pressed
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) Italian seasoned tomatoes, undrained
1 cup sliced kielbasa sausage or cubed ham
1 cup uncooked converted long-grain white rice
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 can (14 1/2) ounces chicken broth
8 ounces uncooked, medium fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup frozen peas
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place bell pepper, celery, and onion in baking dish. Press garlic into bowl. Add tomatoes, sausage, rice, and seasonings. Stir. Pour broth over rice mixture. Cover and bake 55 - 60 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid has been absorbed. Remove cover. Stir in shrimp and peas. Cover. Let stand 10 mintues to cook shrimp until they turn pink.
I hope that is the one you are talking about! Enjoy! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Just checking in (lying pretty low just soaking in all of the helpful hints...THANKS!!!).
I can't believe we're almost going...been too long in the planning! My DW and DS (almost 7) and DD (3 1/2) are all packed, and I finally caved in and started packing today. Harsh realization that someone who normally packs only one suitcase for himself has an overstuffed suitcase and a garment bag that is stuffed too (and I still have some shoes that need packing). UGH! I laughed when they gave us 8 luggage tags, but now the laugh is on me (we'll probably be using 7!!!!).
We leave this Thursday and are staying at the Grand Floridian until Saturday. We have dinner in the castle on Friday and Chef Mickey on Saturday before we leave. It's our 10th wedding anniversary celebration, so this better all come together perfectly! :cool1:
We're doing the Dolphin Encounter on St. Maarten (my DD and I have the observer package), Coral Island and World Drive in St. Thomas and my DW is parasailing her way onto Castaway Cay.
Well, I look forward to the final countdown...hope everyone is packing less than us!

Jim,
All 11 of us have a 5:10pm dinner reservation at Chef Mickeys on 7/7 (Friday). You have a breakfast ressie Saturday morning then?? We're celebrating two birthdays at Chef Mickeys, too, so it should be a lot of fun!
Then, DW and I are taking off and hitting MK until 2am for the extra magic hours! :)
DW and I are staying at the Swan and the rest of our group are at Boardwalk Inn. We're leaving WDW around 830-845am to go to the pier.

Packing for us probably wont start until wednesday. Of course, it's just two of us and we arent coming down until Friday.
Anyway, do any of you have photo albums at all so we could perhaps know what each other looks like? On three circles (another discussion forum) we've got a list going with pictures and staterooms and everything for those on the 14 day westbound Transatlantic. Might be fun to have something similar for us so we know who is who. Anyway, our website is at http://www.*********************. The Zoccoli's website is at http://www.zocs.com/disney
It's going to be so fun to meet everyone. As I said I'll be at the terminal super early and will wear a red shirt and red baseball cap. I'll also get out to deck 7 aft around 3pm. DW and I are also definitely going to Match Your Mate on Saturday night. Hope to see some of you!

Hi JimGarth and Welcome aboard,
Congratulations on your Tenth Anniversary!! It is our as well, or at least it will be July 28th.
We will also be at WDW before and after the cruise, couple of nights at the Grovsner (sp) in Downtown Disney area and then after the cruise at Old Key West! One of the only reasons that we are actually going to the Magic Kingdom before the cruise is because it is my wife's birthday so we are going for her birthday!
My son just turned 7 this past June and my daughter is about to be three. Perhapsed they will get a chance to meet.
one quick question: Are you going to Coral World in St Thomas on your own or with the ship's tour? I was planning to do that on my own, but I'm not sure yet.

So far can only confirm a 1/2 day with another couple. Not that another couple is a problem but I have 2 kids..If I was sailing with my DH alone I don't think I would want to kids fighting on a tiny 35'-40' boat. I am soooo sorry! What about the catamaran? It was still available as of last night..... :surfweb:
We cancelled our shipwreck cove snorkel excursion last night. I was afraid once we got out there my daughter might freak and decide she didn't want to do it. She's a fish, so swimming isn't a problem, but she has never snorkeled before. We decided it might be better to try the package at Castaway key with the floats, bikes, snorkel and stingray adventure.
Also after purusing through the menus for each resturant, we have decided that we we don't want to keep our dinner at Palo's . I don't know if anyone would be interested in it...it is for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Let me know because I'm going to cancel it tomorrow. :confused3

May be too late to ask this question but just thought of it. Is there a standard to go by in tipping the people who unload your luggage at the port? I know we tip the people at the end of the cruise more because they get you through customs quickly and take the bags to your car in the parking lot. I'm just never sure how to tip those that help unload the car upon arrival. Any input appreciated.
MBFergie
07-05-2006, 08:04 PM
I usually $1 per bag plus a couple more $$. If we are there when the bring luggage to room I tip again. We bring $100 in singles & five for this and room service and whatever other small tips. Always come back with some but you never know.
My kids know that if they order room service there are singles to tip with. Alot of teens don't and I always feel bad.

hey. I was just wondering if anybody else hear the "Bright Star. Bright Star." announcement that came over the loud speaker one morning. We were at our character breakfast when it was announced. We asked our server and he said that meant there was a medical emergency. According to the room number they announced, it was right down the hall from my parents, but we never heard or saw anything because we were at breakfast. I hope everything was okay!

Actually, we apparantly stopped for about 1/2 hour to MediVac (via Helicopter) someone off the ship from Deck 6 (that's what we were told). Don't know what happened, but hope they were o.k.

I heard the announcement and figured it was a code for something but did not exactly what. I figured it was a medical thing but ignored it. I did not know we had stopped for a helicopter. I kind of doubt that we did, as I think that news would have made its way around the ship and/or there would have been an announcement made advising us and asking us to stay clear of the area. :confused3

OK...new dilemma...
While we were on the cruise, I spoke to the rebooking agent and asked her about 2008 rebookings. She said what I could do would be to book right then for December 2007, then cancel next year and rebook for 2008 (she said they'd give me whatever rebooking promotion was in effect at the time of cancellation - i.e. 10% off). I told her I'd talk to my wife and get back to her if we were interested.
Well, we decided against it (didn't really want to put down a new deposit this soon)....then...
Today in the mail, i get a confirmation for our rebooking (guess she put it in the computer just in case!).
Well, I was all excited and was glad she did that, but the deposit was due 7/18/06 (3 days ago)....does anyone think there is anything they can do? I'm willing to put the deposit down and do what she said (when 2008 dates are released, rebook at that time)....anyone ever experience something like this? I tried accessing this new reservation number online, and it says it's invalid (they probably canceled it)...Need advice!
Thanks, Jim :woohoo:

A couple of things here.
The boat definitely stopped. My sister and I left breakfast and went up on deck 9 after we had started moving but didn't really look around. So, not sure if there was a helicopter.
As for re-booking. We wish we had. We are definitely thinking we will sail in 2008. So, we wish we had re-booked for any re-booking credits! Oh well. Do rates usually come out in October of this year (or shortly after) for 2008? :confused3

Hurry up and call DCL. Tell them you thought they were putting the deposit on your credit card that you had on file (that is what they usually ask you if you want to do). He extended an invitation to me to blow the Mickey Whistle on our Thursday day-at-sea and I told him that was extremely kind, however a lady in our group was celebrating her 68th birthday the following week and could she do it as a birthday present - which of course he said sure. So, here's a pic of 6 (out of our group of 11) on the bridge:
