1/2/04
Here I go! After losing 74 lbs after the birth of Sarah I was so proud! I even dumped my size 14 clothes and actually threw them out so I would be motivated to keep it up! Darn it! Didn't I fall off the wagon and since July have gained 15lbs.... The 12's still fit ,but my thighs and bottom are bulking up for winter... I made the decision that on January 1st I would become faitful again to my friend Dr. Atkins since I had such wonderful results...
My Program: Atkins ~ Induction
My exercize plan ~ Walk or Jog for at leat 20 minutes/ day
My weight goal ~ 15 lbs for sure (165) but I am open to maybe 10 more after that.. Then I WILL maintain it!
I made it all day yesterday.. Felt a little dizzy around bed time but that is par for the course for me in induction...
Today:
B ~ 2 hardboiled eggs, 2 small slices of steak, 2 ounces of cheddar
bottle of water
L ~ Scrambled eggs, salad w/ blue cheese dressing, bottle of water
S~ 2 slices of steak
D ~ roasted chicken, 1 c salad, 1 cu beans

Those first 3 to 4 days are the hardest aren't they? After that it becomes more of a breeze. I am on reinduction for SB and on day 6 so I know what you mean about the feeling dizzy for a while. Actually I get the killer headache but when that happens I know I need to push more and more and more water. Good luck you will do it! :cool1:

I remembered that I felt really yucky on day 3, but Awesome on Day 4.. Tomorrow is my 1st day back to school from Christmas break and it will be day 3.. I'm hoping I will be too busy to notice!!
And you are right.. Have to keep pushing that water!
Thanks for your support! I am going to love it here~ :flower1:

Hi Jen and Welcome to WISH journaling!
It sounds like you are getting back on track and that you are ready to go! :cheer2: Go Jen!!! Go Jen!!! Woohoo!
I noticed in your countdown that you are going to WDW for Christmas this year. We went in early December of 2004 and absolutely loved it! I bet you and your family will have a wonderful time!
Again, welcome Jen! You will find a lot of support and encouragement here. Take care!

Thanks Jen and Tracy! I am really glad to be here! :cool1: Yes! We are headed to WDW! I can't wait! I love the planning and anticipation as much as the trip now that we are under a year and it seems so real!
Day 3 ~ Feeling ok... Still get a little light headed at times... I know I am on the right track though... Today will be the big water test.. I know I will drink a full bottle of water before school and at lunch....I have to figure out how to sneak some in while teaching today as I have only a 20 minute prep all day.... It makes going to the bathroom an issue! Once I am home it is no big deal...
B~ 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 sausage links, water
S~ 2 ounces of cheddar
L~ Green salad with chicken and 1 oz of cheese, water

Jen, I am sorry you aren't feeling well. Hopefully it is just that carb headache and tomorrow you will feel like a Million Bucks!
Can you keep a water bottle on your desk as you teach? Both of my children's teachers keep large water bottles with them throughout the day. In fact, now the kids can do the same. I like that!

I have a flat of water behind my desk and I did really well yesterday! I know the water helps!!
I feel better this morning so I am thinking I am over the detox (ha! Ha! ) hump!
I'll add more later... :flower1:

Had an excellent eating and water day! I had forgotten how easy induction was after I made it past day 3! Can't wait to weigh in on Monday.... Although I seem to lose inches faster than pounds... I'll know by my pants...

Have a great trip! I wish I was going!
As for will power for me I think it is a determination... When I threw out my larger clothes I did it to keep myself in check and to remind myself I never wanted to be that size again.... So if my size 12's start to feel tight I know I have to do it!!! :flower1:

Day 7! I am halfway to 2 weeks on induction! I'll probably stay on induction for several weeks as I get my body reaclimated to this way of life!
Every day has been abusy day back at school as I chair several committees and do lots of extra things for the kids!
DH is staying home with DD today as his mom is unable to watch her.. I think I'll take the opportunity to grocery shop after school so I don't have to do it over the weekend!
Here's to a great day! :cheer2:

Thanks for stopping by ! I am really enjoying getting to know all of you! You are such a great, inspiring, motivating group!!!
Had another great day yesterday! One of my kids brought me a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting... I graciously accepted it and after she left deposited it in the trash!!!
Did our weekly shopping after school as our supermarket was having a meat sale... Meat, produce and dairy are pretty much the only aisles I pass through now! I speed walk through the others (sometimes i have to pick things up for dd)
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! :wizard: The pounds will be gone!

Good job at avoiding those sweet-wicked treats! That was sweet of the student though. Have a good day.

01-08-2005, 08:44 AM
I'd love to know the amount of chocolate, brownies, cookies, cupcakes etc I receive in a year! I know it must be staggering!!!! My students are so sweet! And they know I love chocolate!
I know that my tough spot will probably be when I PMS as I crave choclate wickedly... I will really need your support to get through that! Luckily it is a couple of weeks away! (Glad I planned it this way! I will have almost 4 weeks of induction under my belt!!!)
Tonight will be sort of a test.. We are going to DH's brother's house for our 1st winter installment of family game night... It is dinner and "Battle of the Sexes".. I have planned to bring a big veggie tray and dips. Dinner is burger and dogs and I know I can do a burger no bun and veggies and dip.. A good friend of ours who makes KILLER desserts is bringing dessert.. I know I can do this as I'm not craving... I think I'll either just leave the room when people are eating dessert or down a giant glass of water!

What grade do you teach? I used to teach 5th grade before becoming a stay at home mom. Not only would my students bring goodies in for me, but the kids in the younger grades who wanted to come upstairs and see the "really cool 5th graders" would bring goodies as well. ;)Whew! I gained quite a bit of weight my first year teaching and am still working to get it off.

:worship: Great job resisting the dessert, and CONGRATULATIONS on losing 8 pounds! That is incredible. Keep up the great work. As for the chocolate cravings. Russel stover makes some awesome lc chocolate. It is wonderful, and they sell them individually wrapped. That way, the craving is satisfied without having a ton of chocolate around the house. I can't buy the big bags of them. I don't have your will power, but 1 pair of mints will get me through DZone without a binge. Just a fyi.
Have a great day,

Now I'm fighting the cold! I have been taking echinechia and vitamin C since yesterday and took nyquil caps at 7 last night and was in bed at 7:15.. I kept waking up but I feel somewhat better today! Still I feel like I am fighting a cold..

My DH and I run a private music studio now, but I remember my days teaching k-5 and chorus in NY. Actually we lived on L.I. for a short time and that's where I taught public school. It was fun, but those concerts were always stressful. It was never the parents you had to impress, it was all the dept. heads! Best wishes on Tuesday. . .it'll be fine, I'm sure. The kids always pull out there best at the end.
Keep up the great work and stop by and visit when you get a chance.

Guess what! I trimmed my 2 mile jog down to 30min 56 sec last night! YAY! Yesterday it was 32.16! My legs are sore but a good sore... You have all really motivated me with the exercize and I know I'll see better results, when I am consistant.. I just have to make a pact with myself, that I get at least 30 monutes a day for me!
Tonight should prove to be interesting... We have having dinner at ny inlaws... My MIL is making Lasagne.... It has been a year and a half since I have taken a bite of the stuff...(I rarely eat pasta these days. It is the one thing that I never returned to after my 1st go around on atkins... I honestly don't really care for it.. That is amazing for someone who once ate pasta 5 days a week) I really hope there is salad! I don't think my stomach can take it! Wish me luck! :flower1:

30 minutes!!! I did my 2 miler in 30 minutes! That is the pace I am going to try to keep at for a while.. I am going to try to add another mile tomorrow! I check out the site about training for half marathons and the novice distance is 3 miles to start...
I can tell I am getting excited about how my clothes are fitting because I am finding myself look at the spring fashions in Lands End and LL Bean and wanting to buy colors! I am usually a balck, brown, dark color person.. The other day I wore my pink paisley Tommy Hilfiger shirt and foudn myself longing for COLOR!!!

26:45! I did 2 miles in 26:45!!! Go Jen! :cheer2:
I really had wanted to try 3 miles, but I am getting a blister in a really wierd place on my left foot.. I had some blister things to put on it but I could feel it slip off at the 2 mile mark and I decided to stop, instead of pushing myself and getting a bad blister and not be able to run at all... I am feeling really great with the exercize!
Unless school is cancelled tomorrow since we are under a windchill warning for temps of -45 F I won't be runnign tomorrow due to my concert.. I wanted to get a good run in today!!!
I made a crustless quiche with ham, cheddar and mushrooms and am going to try an asian stir fry of veggies... That will give us a couple of meals and will make life easy!
I am guzzling the water like mad... I am about to enter PMS week so I think I will not even step one foot near the scale... Well is is only -31 with the windchill. Uusually it is -31 without!!!.. That is positively balmy for this time of year! :cool1: The problem is it was in the 50's above last week and I wore fleece... That is like an 80 degree temp change!! They rarely cancel school for cold, although last year when we had a week of -35 without the windchill and the high for the days was -25 the bus fuel finally started to gel up.. We have the largest geographic school district in NYS so we have kids that catch the bus VERY early...
Now we have a new Supt. who doesn't seem to want to use snow days or close early.... We have 4 snowdays we can use and haven't used 1 yet.. That is amazing for here!
Perfectly fine today though... I just want to get my concert done... Then I can concentrate on all the other stuff for the rest of the year (5more concerts, 1 recital, 1 5th grade musical, 1 st grade musical)etc...
I probaly won't have a chance to check back in today! Here's to a great eating and water day! (My adreneline is humming.. Does that boost your metabolism?)

It's only 10.5 below zero (no wind chill this morning).. I suppose it is OK because they are getting ready build our Ice Palace for our WInter Carnival!! We need the ice!

OS after being bad yesterday, I ran 2.25 miles and walked the other .75 in a total of 36 minutes! Those are 12 minute miles baby! YAY!!!
We are under another windchill advisory which will probably change to a warning! Accuweather is forcasting wind chills to reach - 54 F tomorrow morning... Oh Yay... Not... I am starting to really hate winter....
I have definitely hit the wall now with my concerts... I was glad to do my exercize yesterday, but I couldn't get up this morning and I over slept... I Have NO ENERGY at all today! Luckily my teaching day today isn't too bad!
Hopefully my energy will build during the day!! At least I am looking forward to my run! I bet that is helping me with my sleep!

You're doing great!!! Now, start counting your days again without chocolate! You made it 19 days...maybe you'll make it more next time! (because we know we can't LIVE w/out chocolate sometime!!) I know what you mean about the "hangover" effect of finally reaching that goal you've worked towards for months and then waking up the morning after and feeling drained and not quite sure what do to next. Give yourself a day to enjoy it! And start right in again, right?
I'm sorry your family is ill. Its been two weeks since I came down with a flu bug and I'm not quite healthy yet - just want to sleep and sleep and sleep!
You can do a 12-minute mile! That is terrific - I was walking about that pace last summer when I got out there every day. I don't think I could sustain it for more than about 3.5 miles though.
You must have an amazing amount of energy to teach elementary music! That must be like being on stage all day long. Everytime I do a teaching observation for my program, I am overwhelmed by the energy that teachers must exude to their students to gain and keep their attention. I used to do that when teaching skiing - but its the same for social studies! Does the energy you get back from your students help you to stay engergized too?
Thanks for your encouragement in my journal. It is so amazing to be down and without motivation and then find someone who says get back in there and do it. Makes me want to do better.

You've had plenty of challenges the past few weeks and you've gotten through them like a trooper. I hope your DH and DD feel better soon. Nothing worse than having your baby feel bad, but we know how bad it can be to have a cranky sick hubby :earseek:
I know what you mean about getting tired of the cold. We're not even close to being as cold as you and I'm so ready for the spring. We haven't hit our snowest month yet (March), so I have a long way to go. The stores are starting to put out their pretty spring colors and I'm DYING to buy stuff, but want to wait until I can get the weight down a little more. Colorado is notorious for having 80 degrees one day and 30 the next. Gotta love the weather :earseek:

Good news guys! I am back in the land of the living.. Thank goodness for Tylenol Severe Congestion day and night!!! I actually feel good today! The good thing about this bug was I didn't eat much at all this week.. I couldn't smell and I had no appetite at all! Today I can breathe through my nose, I don't ache and it is supposed to be in the 20"s above zero!! I am going to take DD out to ice skate for a little bit.. I think the fresh air will do me a world of good. Our kids at school were inside everyday this week except yesterday due to extremely cold windchill's... I do think that is a huge problem as we keep circulating all of these germs..

sarahsmom73

We are headed to WDW from 12/23 - 12/31... We have to wait for all of our new teacher calendars to come out! My DH, brother and myself are all teachers and so is my Dad but he is retiring this june! It is family christmas trip and we are all really looking forward to it!
I am definitely feeling better. I did take dd ice skating (it was her 1st time) and boy was I whipped after... I think it is going to take some time to get full energy back!
Well after not eating a whole lot last week DH decides to bring pizza home... Some help he is! SO today I will go grocery shopping, and plan the meals for the week. If he wants to sabaotge himself, that is fine, but he is not going to sabatoge me!!!!
I think I am going to have to do small exercize until all of my oomph is back... I want to exercize, but I lso don't want to wear myself out to the point of sickness again...
Catch you all later!

Hi Jen - I'm glad your doing better. This is such a bad time of year with the kids and everyone else getting sick. Try and take it easy with the exercise until you feel 100%... it'll take you longer to fully recover if you don't.

I am grasping to our Christmas trip... It definitely brightens the gloomy winter days...It will be fun to have a count down buddy!!!!
We have an excellent week weather wise.. sunny and in the 30's!!! I took DD skating again after school... It was only her 3rd day and she was skating on her double blades with out me and without holding on to a cone! I am really proud of her as she is only 3 1/2!!! We ended up staying almost an hour and she really pitched a fit when it was time to go home!
I know I am still recovering from this darn bug as I was in bed and asleep at 7:30 last night... I put dd into bed and then I got into mine... DH thinks I am nuts but I was really wiped out!!! I actually felt that way at lunch! Monday is my tough teaching day as I see over 280 kids in one day! It is a lot of energy to expend!
I am plugging away on the low carb.. I ate a small handfull of M and m's yesterday.. Total stress reaction... I'm not beating myself up about it though... With all the dancing I am doing with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders I have been neglecting to count that as exercize!
Off to school!Have a great one!

Hi Jen,
I'm so glad you are feeling better. The ice skating with your daughter sounds fun. I know we had fun skating this weekend, of course, I fell more than I skated.
You are smart to take things slowly right now. Listen to your body, and you'll be 100% soon.
Take care,
Beth

When your daughter is done learning to skate, do you think she could teach me? I have a problem with skates. I guess they prefer to see me on my bottom versus my feet.
Take care of yourself and don't overdue things. I hope you feel 100% soon!

Well I go 50 minutes in on the tredmill last night!!! So I had 110 minutes total between 2 30 minutes classes of dancing and the tredmill.. I am pushing myself harder and harder because I want to lose this weight...
On a side note the exercize had been great to combat stress.
Our niece has been hospitalized since last friday with bacterial pneumonia. It has been pretty resistant to anitbiotics and the day before yesterday a surgeon was called in to remove fluid from her right lung. They thought they would see improvement yesterday , but they aren't. Her Pediatrician (who is ours too) may be tranferring her to a city about 2 hours form here today. They have seen 5 cases of this bug there. It is pretty scary for everyone!
My Dad is being sent to a neurologist for an issue he is having with loss of strength in his hand and tingling... He had an MRI the other day and yesterday his doctor has decided to send him to a place a couple hours away in the other direction to see this specialist...
I have to exercize or I am going to lose my mind! My stress level is at top and I am most apt to cry at the drop of a hat! I set aside how I am feeling at work (school ~ My DN's mom teaches with me and I hear rumours all the time ~ makes me crazy! and my dad teaches there as well. ) The only good thing is I haven't really turned to food.. I am forcing myself to exercize longer and harder to try to get that runners high!
I hope there is improvement today in my niece!

Well as of yesterday the fluid in my niece's lung had dropped so that is a good sign.. She is only 7 and is on morphine for pain... There are 4 other kids in Burlingotn with the same thing and unfortunately it is taking a long time...
As for my dad, his doc thinks it is a disc in his neck, but the Doc isn't sure about nerve damage... He isn't seeing the neurologist until April 7th and that seems so far away!
I have a snow day today! We are supposed to get clobbered today with around 16 inches! It was our 1st snowday this school year and boy do we need it! We have tomorrow off to celebrate winter carnival so a 4 day weekend sounds great to me!!
On the downside I ate some cheese curls last night... I craved salt in the worst way... Guess that means extra tredmill today for me!!! That's OK
Thankd for all of your concern! You are all keeping me sane!!! :flower: :flower:

Hi Jen! Have you been sneaking over to Tara's house to get cheese curls? ;) Keep those things away from me! I don't know if I can be as strong and only have a 'couple'.
Your poor niece. I hope she continues to improve and they find some antibiotics to kick that bug's tail! It's so hard when our little ones are sick. to you and yours.
I hope your Dad starts improving as well. Maybe some anti-inflammatory meds will give him some relief before he gets to the specialist (which does seem FAR away!). DH has had 3 back surgeries but in the low back - all because of ruptured discs. Not fun, but can be fixed.
Have fun on the treadmill today while enjoying your snow day! :bounce:

That is really wierd about the cheese curls because I was laying in bed last night craving them!!! Oh well, that was yesterday, and now you have a fresh new day without cheese curls!!
Glad to hear your DN is doing better!! :Pinkbounc
April 7th. does seem far away, but that may mean that the doctor doesn't think it is a serious problem, which is good news! I hope your DF isn't in a lot of pain or discomfort!
Stick with the dancing and keep at that treadmill!! Do you use weights when you walk on the treadmill?? I was just reading today about the benefits of weight training combined with cardio! It builds your lean muscle wich in turn burns more fat!! The article was saying that adding 1lb. of lean muscle will burn 50 more calories a day!
Keep up the great work!! You can do this!!

Thanks everyone!
The procedure went well... DN was to spend the night in ICU just as a procaution... Our house has been so sick lately we have yet to go visit her.. DH started with diarrea and now has a sore throat... I really don't want to bring anymore germs her way... It would be one thing if she were our child, then of course I wouldn't be as concerned..
It seems like everyday in the morning we get news that things are looking up and within a few hours things aren't looking so great... I am hoping that today will look a little brighter... I guess my BIL and SIL and DN have had so many visitors that DN has melted down again and again... I have a hard enough time doing hospitals and I would hate to be the one who made her melt down again (and she is out of it on morphine for pain)..
What would you do if you were me?! We haven't sent anything to the hospital yet as DN really has been out of it. We want to send or bring something when she is at least with it.... Do you think we are right by keeping our germs home? We are in contact with BIL and MIL many times daily to get updates... Unfortunately there is nothing we can do at this point... Sorry to go on and on... I just had to get some of this out.....
As for me I shovled 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes in the afternoon and did 4 miles in 52 minutes on the treadmill! More for stress relief than exercize, but hey, it fits both circumstances!!!! :cool1:
I hope to get more tredmill time in today... I am shooting for 60 minutes... At this rate I wll meet my 1000 minute goal and maybe surpass it.... Then :wizard: all the fat will melt away!
DisneyEnthusiastic
02-11-2005, 07:30 AM
Jen...I know you don't want to take your germs to the hospital...but, in my opinion..I would make that trip to the hospital. If you were so sick and couldn't get out of bed...that would be one thing, but showing up is support for the parents. You could show up at the hospital and let them make the decision whether to let you see her. There are just as many germs floating around the hospital..unless she is in some quarentine. Don't worry about DN having a meltdown...and yes...bring flowers, a balloon, a stuffed animal..something that when she is with it...they will tell her that you and your husband gave that to her. I'm sure it would mean a lot to your SIL & BIL if you guys go. That's my opinion.
On the exercise trail...WOW :earseek: you are doing awesome!! It sounds like you will pass up your 1000 minutes in no time!! Keep it up! The fat is saying..."I'm melting"
Take care! Good luck and :grouphug: for you & your family.

Hi Jen,
I am a ccu nurse, so I am biased. Stay away until you are healthy. The last thing your neice needs is to get the flu on top of the pneumnia. Her immune system is already working overtime to fight this infection,. She doen't need a virus to boot. Send her a bouqet of flowers and a CD, so she can listen to music, or a book on tape. There is nothing to do in a hospital. She is sick, tired, weak, and cranky. It is expected that she would have some meltdowns.
You are doing the right thing.
Take care,
Beth

Thanks guys!!! DD and I did 1800 flowers.com and sent a teddy and 6 valentines mylars!!!
I spoke my MIL this am and DN had a good night.... No fever.... This is the 1st time in almost 2 weeks with no fever and after another ultrasound on the lung there is no fluid... So she has the drain and she also has a feeding tube. Before she got sick at 7 years old she weighed 42 lbs. (my DD at 3 1/2 weighs 4Olbs) This am she woke up and wanted a donut! She is being moved back off of ICU this afternoon . I guess the drain will have to stay for a couple of days. I am an emotional wreck.. I have kept it together decently until today and now that it seems to have turned the corner for the good all I want to do is cry! Please continue to pray that we are over the hump! I truluy appreciate all of your kindness and encouragement for me , and that I am doing the right thing!

Jen -- I am so glad to hear that DN is feeling better, and I definitely think the teddy bear and mylars are a fabulous idea. I am sure your BIL and SIL are so grateful that you are being considerate in not sharing your germs.
I can't imagine how emotionally exhausting this whole ordeal has been for you and your family. I will keep your niece in my prayers. I hope the weekend brings more good news for all of you.

Jen, I'm sending more prayers and good wishes for your DN. Wonderful news that she's well enough to be moved off ICU!! :cloud9: I'm sure the teddy bear and balloons will brighten up her room and make her smile.
Staying away from the hospital is the kindest thing you can do. Your DN doesn't need the germs and your BIL & SIL DEFINITELY don't need the germs - they need to stay healthy to take care of their daughter.
If you really want to help, send a healthy snack basket so your BIL & SIL can have some food and keep up their strength. Also, you may want to send a chapter book that they can read to your DN. Those hospital hours can be long and boring, for kids & parents alike.
Congrats on breaking your plateau!! Keep up the great work - just reading about all that exercise makes me tired! :teeth:
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :sunny:

Thanks again... I don't know what I would do without all of you! :grouphug: This has been emotional , difficult week.. At first I tried the tough guy attitude to keep the emotion down so I could go to work and do my job...As the week wore on and and my neice got worse instead of better the emotions ran higher.. So this has been my safe haven.. the place I can come to to get out what I need to.. And it really does help.
In one aspect it has made me step up the exercize... I just finished 60 minutes on the tredmill.. I ran 3 miles and walked 1.5.... I burned 700 calories and burned off more stress and emotion than that... This whole situation has been an eye opener for any parent... and for someone like me who is an emotional eater it really has helped to have the journals and the exercize.. I now know that the exercize high really does make me fell better than the food high...

Hey sweetie! You can cry all you want! We all have very shapely shoulders from working out that you can cry on. ;) Seriously, after the week you have had, it is very important that you release all of that pent up emotion. We are here for you, girl! :grouphug:
I am glad to hear that your DN is improving! Wanting a donut is a very good sign!:) We will keep all of you in our prayers. :grouphug:
I think that staying away from the hospital while you and your family are trying to get over the flu is a good idea. Like Beth said, your niece's immune system is already working overtime. I bet she loved the stuffed animal and the balloons! Maybe you can call her in a day or two when she is feeling better.
Take good care of yourself this weekend. Know that your WISH friends are here for you. :grouphug:

Like i have said all week , you guys are the greatest!!! :grouphug: I feel a lot better today! Ok , so it is only 6:36 am....
DN LOVED the balloons and teddy. I guess it was a bright spot in her day since everyone that went to visit her said she was pissy... I take that as an excellent sign!!!! She is acting more like my neice!!!!
My hips are a little sore this morning... That's ok... I know I burning the fat!!! I am a little disgusted that the darn scale isn't moving... We need to have a scale bashing session!!! DH keeps reminding me I am probably building a ton of muscle... He said there is no way I am gaining weight from eating since I have been a tredmill maniac!!! It still annoys me , that with as hard as I am working the darn thing won't move!!! At least my clothes are getting more and more loose!
The plan for today is to get my 60 minutes of tredmill in this morning... We will be headed to our town's Winter Carnival Parade around 11:30... Tonight is the Bud Shootout on Fox.. (Yes.. I admit it, I am a NASCAR junkie!!! Shhhhhh... don't tell!!)
"onwards and downwards!!!" (I hope)

Jen:
I found bacterial pnemonia between 1998-2000 and was hospitalized several times during those years. It was finally Cipro that kicked it BTW but the side effects were almost worse than the pnemonia. I feel for your neice...I hope she doesn't have future breathing problems due to it...I now have asthma when I didn't prior to coming down with the bug the first time.
Congrats on busting through your plateau - exercise did the trick? I've really got to get back on my walking program. Exercise is really the only thing that works for me.
Go easy on yourself and remember to stretch after all that exercise - you won't feels as stiff. I'm proud of you.
Less stress this week, OK.

I am really hoping for less stress!!!! DN's draining tubes may come out today or tomorrow! She is very ornery which is a great thing! That means she is getting back to normal!
As for me... Well... I have some foot blisters... yay... I'll have to get some tape... That will help... I think I am getting yet another cold... I am really starting to get annoyed!!! ARGHH.....
My mood is a little off.... Little things are annoying me right now... I am finding that I am just grumpy and want to be left alone... Oh well.... This too shall pass...
Sorry for venting!

Good news!! DN may be released tomorrow!!! Thanks for all the support! I needed it!
I did 5 miles today on the tredmill!!! YAY!!! 67 minutes... I ran for 4 and walked 1!
I am starting to suspect something might be going on with my thyroid... I plan to call m y doctor tomorrow to make an appointment... I'm moody an dcan cry at the drop of a hat (more so with the stress of the week) I am not sleeping well and haven't been for some time, the skin on my hands is sooooooooooo dry even with 84 1/2 ounces of water per day....My TOM is wacked out... And my hands will sometimes get tingly.. I am always freezing.. I don't tolerte cold at all!! I was thinking carpal tunnel, but after doing some research on hypothyroidism I think I might need to get checked..
We'll see...

Wooohhoo! That's great about your niece! I find it is the ornery ones that get better quickest! ;)
Hope your doctor can help and hope you are feeling better soon! Let us know how it goes! :grouphug:
Congrats on the 5 miles - that is wonderful! I am yearning for a treadmill. We had 5 minutes of sunshine here today and now it is gone and I can't bear the thought of running in this gloom! Maybe you and I both just need to get out and run in some Florida sunshine! :sunny:
Great news about your DN. I bet the family is so relieved.
Good job on the 5 miles. I'm going to start working on running on the treadmill more... just need to work up to it
I hope you get some answers from your doctor. If it is your thyroids, atleast you would know and can get medication to help. Good luck....

Well it's Monday... No loss ....again... It has to be because I am gaining muscle... There is no way that nothing is happening with 60+ minutes / day on the tredmill! I burned close to 800 calories alone yesterday! It would be nice to see a significant loss here anytime...
I know!!! It's because I'm not eating any oatmeal!!! :rotfl2:

Happy Valentines day!
I don't get the oatmeal thing but you look very cute rolling around on the floor down there!
I share your pain - diet and exercise almost every day for three weeks and yesterday I was back up to where I started three weeks ago. How is that possible???!!!! Guess I am not going to make the Valentines day challange.
Anyway, hope cupid is nice to you today! :lovestruc

Hey, sarahsmom73 -- I am so with you on that whole "what the heck is happening with the scale" thing! I am also exercising for about an hour a day at least 5 days a week and so far have not see scale results. We will definitely have to keep telling ourselves we are building muscle and the weight will come off eventually. The key is to stay off the scale. Keep up the great work! You are almost halfway to your objective, pound-wise, and I will bet your clothes are much more comfortable, too!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi Jen,
I am glad to hear about your neice. That is great news. If your thyroid is off, it would explain the plateau you are on. Keep us posted.

I hope your doctor's appointment goes well and that you get some answers about how you have been feeling. Please know you'll be in my prayers. Update us when you can! :grouphug:
Glad to hear DN is home. Hope she has a full recovery soon.
I know what you mean about that damn scale. It's so frustrating to work out as hard as we do and see very little to no drop. We just need to keep it up and it'll happen

Well... the Dr. appt.... My thyroid is being tested... My diagnosis is a bit of a shock for me.. I have been diagnosed with depression. My doctor feels that because my life is good (I have no marital problems, etc... ) that this is a purely chemical imbalance... So I am now being treated for that imbalance....
I almost fell off my chair as I never considered myself depressed, but then again, I guess I never really knew that sleeping problems, mood swings and irritablilty among a few others were warning signs...(I've never been down in the dumps daily, or had suicidal thoughts or anything like that!!!)
My doc did tell me they have seen a huge rise of depression here this winter.... Yikes! She did do the blood test for thyroid as my weight is up from the fall and she can't find a reason that I am not losing weight with the exercize and diet.. Apparently depression is another sign of hypothyroidism as well...
This certainly has been a wild couple of weeks... I am sure it will be an interesting couple more as we wait to see if the medication is a good fit for me..(This is hard... I'm not much of a pill popper unless they are vitamins)

Wow! I have a friend who has a chemical imbalance and suffers from depression. She always says it is worse in the winter then it is in the summer. It is good for you to have this information because now you have the tools to help yourself.
Are you going to be doing Oprah's bootcamp?

Jen--If you've been cooped up inside a lot this winter, you might have some sort of seasonal depression. I tend to get the blues in the winter, and I've taken anti-depressants before to get out of a funk. Let me know if you have any questions. It could all be explained by a hypothyroid. I feel the same way about taking medication, but you can take anti-depressants for just a few months until your body chemistry evens out.
I saw part of the Oprah boot camp show too. It sounds like a great way to really trim down. The people didn't lose as many pounds as I expected, but they sure did tone up and lose inches. I need to go look on the website for specifics. It sounds like it's all weights and treadmill work, which might not work for me since I like to go to classes. I did love the part about Pilates though, and I may start going to one of those classes.

wow, things have been a bit crazy, huh? Hasn't life twisted around a bit this winter.
Honestly, my life has been a total shocker of late, argh!
Sleeping problems can be a BIG indicator of depression, that was how DH got diagnosed too. He has been clinically depressed for years though, it just finally caused him to do something about it 2 yrs ago when it started to affect his sleep.
Good for you to get things checked out... Happy days to come...

It's a sneaky booger...
I got a diagnosis of "situational" depression in '99 & was placed on the same meds that Mom takes for depression maintenance ...the doc weaned me off the meds during my pregnancy & watched me closely to see if I was okay...I haven't been back on the meds since then, but I have my friends/family watching closely to make sure I'm "in check"...I truly didn't think anything was wrong with me in '99...DDs Dad got concerned (but didn't know what to do)...my Mom actually sat me down and encouraged me to make an appointment...glad somebody said something, I was a royal pain in the rear & thought I was fine...
I hope that you feel better soon...

Hi Jen,
Can I ask you something? How do they know? Is there something they can check? I mean if I went to the doctor and said, I can't sleep at night, I am sometimes quite grumpy for no reason, I am unhappy and can't seem to shake it even though I know I am a blessed woman. Is there an actual test or do they just say "Hmmm, you sound depressed." I also worry about letting something chemical help me feel better. I have sometimes wondered about this but thought I should just learn to snap out of it. When you described your thyroid worry I though it sounded just like me and now I think maybe I should go and talk to my doctor...

Wow Jen...that was a shocker of a diagnosis. I thought for sure it would just be the thyroid. :confused3 Good luck to you. :grouphug: Just keep up with the meds, as much as you don't like to take pills.
Take care!

 Jen,
It does sound like you may have a mild calse of seasonal depression. The meds can help tremendously. Just be aware that they are generally not fully effective for 3 weeks. I know you don't like taking pills, but please make a committment to take them for 1 month before you would decide to stop them. Doe is open about her bouts of depression, and would be a great resource, if you have questions. You are doing everything right. The fact that you are exercising and eat a good diet probably have helped minimize the symptoms of depression.
Take care,
Beth

My doc asked me a TON of questions... The sleep thing was big... I have not slept through the night in I don't know how long..... I was able to keep my emotions in check at school but I seemed to have very little patience at home... I got irritable very often. I have said to my DH a thousand times that "I couldn't help " some of my responses... We could be having a normal conversation and he would say something and it would rub me the wrong way and I would snap at him.... I was exercizing to get that runner's high to help my mood. On sunday I went into the bathroom and just started to cry. I think I knew there was something wrong... I came out in tears and told DH I was calling my doc... That something wasn't right.. I really thought thyroid and it still may be part of the problem.
I am committed to this for at least a year. My Doc told me she will never take me or anyone else off meds in the fall and winter. At this point we are trying this to see if it works. If it does great, if not we try something else. I HAVE to feel better. I have to admit I am nervous and am trying to sort all of this out as I would have never considered to be in a depression, but having family members on both sides beign diagnosed as depressed and were hospitalized in the past couple of months (1 was last week!) I am staring to think there may be a heredity thing...
Time will tell! :flower: I can do this and I can get better! :flower:
