I have been reading other's journals and got inspired to try losing the extra weight AGAIN. I am at 245lbs (ETA:later found out my scale was wrong, actually 250lbs) right now and would be very happy getting below 200lbs as a short term goal. We are going to Disney in May 2006 and I would love to be at 145lbs by then. I am a stay at home mother of a boy and a girl. I am 5'8" and started putting on weight before my first pregnancy in 2000. I topped out at 270lbs when DS was born in 2003. Since then I have lost some weight but seem to be stuck at my current weight.

1. My first problem is snacking late at night. I plan on not eating after 7 pm.
2. I stopped drinking soda and now drink mostly water.
3. I have had luck with Slimfast in the past and plan on doing a modified version of that. Slimfast really helps with my chocolate cravings.
4. I will right down EVERYTHING that I eat. I have done this before and I think twice about eating something if I know I have to right it down.
5. Need to exercise. The only problem I have is finding the time, very hard to do with a 2 and 4 year old. We have a home gym in our bedroom so I think I may have to get my butt out of bed @ 5 to workout before the kids get up.

Welcome Lizzydoll!
Finding time for exercise always seems to be a challenge. Have you thought of trying an exercise tapes? I have had great success with the Walk Away The Pounds (WATP) tapes. They come in 1, 2, 3 and 4 mile lengths. The 1 mile is only 16 minutes long. They would be easy to fit in and they are easy to do - no complicated steps. ::yes:: The 2 mile is a great tape - only 30 minutes. Heck - I think they are all great tapes. Just wanted to offer them as an option.

Welcome Lizzydoll,

You seem to be doing really well. The WATP are great. You need very little room, and it takes very little coordination. I have none, and have never had a problem. I highly recommend them. Target has them.

Keep up the great work,

LOL! My DS climbs all over me when I'm trying to exercise, too. Once I was doing crunches and when I laid back down he was under me!!! I think climbing/jumping DS add to the calorie burn LOL.

Hi Lizzy!

I am new also! You can do this! When I gave birth to dd in 2001 I weighed in at 238lbs.. I was mortified!!! It took many months of tears and agrivation until I realized everything I was trying wasn't working.. As a last ditch effort I tried Atkins.. For me it was a godsend... I found out I was a certified crabo junkie... I was able to get down to 159 in about 9 months and keep it off... I threw out my fat clothes. Then I went to WDW... Then summer and butter pecan ice cream made a presence... I tried to be good but I got lazy.. on January 1st I weighed 180 (I'm 5 ' 11')

It is now Janaury 7th and I am down to 174... My goal is 155 and keep it there..

Keep it up with the journaling! It will keep you motivated!

B-slimfast shake
S-chocolate banana smoothie
L-steakburger on tortilla wrap
S-no fat yogurt
D-slimfast shake
S-will have an apple

Water - 96 oz may have another 16 oz before bed

Exercise - if I can get the kids to bed before 8 I will do some stretching then TRY to do 10 minutes on ski machine. It's been along time since I've been on it so I don't know if I can do it but I'll try. First, I'll have to remove the laundry that needs to be ironed from it. Works great for hanging things.

I have been entering what I have been eating into Slimfast.com's nutritional log and have been doing around 1300 calories a day. I don't know how many I should be doing but I have not been hungry so I guess it is ok, unless it is too much.

I think I may post a before picture to motivate me. I figure if I am really embarrased by having my before picture up, I will be extra motivated to get some kind of after picture that won't be as embarrasing. Even if it is only a few pounds at a time.

Way to go Lizzydoll! Those pictures can be such a motivator!

Which Slimfast are you drinking? I drink one each day, but when I went to Target they were out of the original ones, so I bought the Optima with 50% less sugar. Tried one today and it wasn't that bad. Keep up the great work!

Hi Gail. Right now I have the Optima because they were on sale at Shoprite this week. I don't like them as much as the original, I guess because they are less sweet. Actually, I usually buy the Target brand. It's just as good and cheaper.

I just did .5 miles on the ski machine and 2 sets of 20 crunches. I know it's not much but it's a start. I also did some stretching. I never realized how hard it is to touch my toes with all this fat. I actually had to tuck my stomach roll to get a good stretch.

Hi Lizzydoll
You are off to a GREAT start! I can relate to your list-- my biggest challenge is night-time eating. From dinner on to bed is a struggle. I also write down EVERYTHING I eat. It makes a huge difference in awareness. Now just "squeeze" that exercise in and your golden!!!! :cool1:

I did get on the ski machine last night. I did .5 mile again. I think I will try to do that twice today. I have to see how bad my toe hurts with shoes on though. I stubbed my pinkie toe on weights that were sitting on the floor. It's purple this morning and hurts pretty bad. I also did 2 sets of 20 crunches.

I need to buy a new scale. I weighed myself this morning but the dial seems to be sticking a little so I had different weights everytime I tried. I will probably pick up a digital one on Friday when DH gets paid. Since I could not get an accurate measure I am not going to post my weight yet but I looks like I may have lost some.

I finally found a picture that has been taken within the last year. I don't like to have my picture taken. Anyway, this was taken in October so I was the same weight as I am now. This is going to be my Before picture and when I get to my short term goal of 200 lbs. I will post another. Sorry about the fish but it was the only time I let someone take my picture.

Hi Liz,
I'm no expert at measuring, maybe some others will chime in with their ideas, too. I try to do weekly measurements (I bet every other week would be better to really see results). Just the basics or however you want, just be consistent. Try to pick the same spots each time and hold the tape the same "tightness" each week.

The basics are upper arm (I just do my right but some people do both)
bust (I do fullest part)
waist (I do smallest part)
abdomen (this one is tricky to get the same each week-- somewhere a couple of inches below the belly button)
hips-- I do two hip measurements; the smallest and the largest. The smallest is probably where most people measure hips, the largest is around my saddle bags  . I'm glad I kept track of both measurements because I can see the "bags" getting smaller in the measurements!!!!
THen there's thigh (another really tricky one to get the same spot each time)
Calve (again, I just do my right but alot of people do both-- you'll probably find one is larger than the other).
I guess you could throw in ankle if you like :)

Good luck!!!!!
Sundie

B- slimfast shake, 1/4 c. raisins
S- cheerios w 1/2 c. FF milk
L- will have can albacore made w 1 tsp mayo on onion bagel
S- will have FF yogurt
D- will have slimfast shake
S- will have an orange

Water - so far 48 oz.

Exercise - hopefully I can get on the ski machine and do crunches after lunch, if I get enough time I may start to do weights. Lets see how well the kids can behave while I workout.

I am getting my new scale tomorrow, I had to wait until DH got paid because I want a digital one that measures body fat too. The scale I have now says I lost 10 lbs but I am not sure if it is correct. The dial sticks sometimes and it is hard to read those little tick marks. We will see tomorrow. I am also going to pick up a measuring tape. We only have the metal retractable ones you use for measuring rooms and stuff.

Hi Lizzydoll,

You are doing great! Keep up the great work. As for measuring your thigh, I do what they did at Curves. Stand with your feet shoulder's width apart. Let your hand fall to your side. Measure right under your index finger. It is the same every time.

have a great day.

GREAT tip, Beth!! I also used a freckle as a marker but your way is much better. ::yes::

Have fun with your new scale, Lizzydoll. I love my new digital but I don't put much merit into the body fat analysis part. I lost 55 pounds but only 2% body fat. Not sure how that is possible. :scratchin ;)

No, I don't think I am getting a Tanita. Are they supposed to be good? The one I was looking at is at Walmart.com. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2676644&cat=46338&type=1&dept=4044&path=0%3A4044%3A4045%3A46338

Sundie, that is too funny. I bet it would hurt. :scared:

01-13-2005, 03:58 PM
That looks like a pretty cool scale. Says you have up to 4 users. My Tanita scale lets anyone get on and then you have to press other buttons to measure body fat. I like the one you're going to get.

I have the Tanita and it is good. I hardly ever check the body fat reading for two reasons 1) you have to punch lots of buttons to get it set up, 2) it fluctuates a real lot. I read somewhere that the measurement is very sensitive to your hydration level. If you are going to measure body fat its best to do it in the mid day when you are well hydrated.

I like the scale you picked out. Have fun :)

PS that's a great tip on thigh measurement!

Sundie

geetey
01-14-2005, 12:45 AM
Yep ::yes:: I have a Tanita as well. It is a great scale but I read the same thing about measuring your body fat. You need to be hydrated and it is best to measure mid-day. So... skip the weight part and just focus on the body fat reading for that mid-day trip to the scale. ;)

That Walmart one looks COOL!

Lizzydoll73
01-14-2005, 10:15 AM
Well I got my new scale today. Unfortunately, my old scale must have been way off. I thought I had lost 10 lbs because it was at 235 this morning but my new scale says 242. :sad1: Oh well now I can start fresh with my new scale. I ended up getting one from Linens N Things because the one from Walmart was available online only and I did not want to wait any longer. It was also cheaper and I had a 20% off coupon. :D This is the one I got.

Not meaning to sound bad....but you probably did lose that 10lbs, and started at a higher weight instead of 245. Either way..you should be proud of what you have accomplished...so don't get discouraged. You now have an actual weight to start with. I don't blame you for not wanting to wait for that other scale. I love getting those 20% off coupons!

Hi everyone and thanks.

Sundie - I plan out what I am going to eat the night before and stick to that. It's not to hard because I am eating almost every 2 hours so I never get hungry. At 7 pm I go brush my teeth and use Listerine, nothing tastes good after that so I don't munch at night. Now I just need to be more disciplined with exercising.

Michelle - Thanks. I just need to step up exercising a notch. But at least I am doing something, right?

Gail - I have made Wed my official weigh in day but we all know I am on it multiple times during the day. You're right about the Optima. I did buy it when it was on sale but usually buy the Target brand. I think I will switch back to the Optima even though it costs more because it has 190 calories instead of 230 in the Target brand. Two of those a day is an extra 80 calories I can use somewhere else.

Jen - Happy Friday to you to and thanks.

Thanks Jen!
I am so sad. The canopy that covers our deck collapsed from all the snow. I had been knocking the snow off of it yesterday but all the snow overnight made it buckle. I knew we should have taken it down. Lesson learned. Here is a picture of it and a picture of my DD and DS in the snow. We had alot of fun but the wind is really whipping so we could only stay out a short time.

Today is my weigh in day. I lost 1.5 lbs since last Wed. :cheer2: I'll take what I can get since I really didn't exercise much last week and I got a visit from TOM this morning. :rolleyes2 I get sooo tired when I get my period, I can barely keep my eyes open. The kids yelling and screaming is the only thing keeping me awake. I also become the biggest klutz. I drop EVERYTHING. Last year I hit the house with the car pulling in the driveway, all because of TOM. :rolleyes1 I try not to do too much now when I get my period. It's just safer that way.

Have a great day everyone.

Kids were in a Halloween parade & costume contest today. Not sure how long the parade was but we walked about 30 minutes so I am considering that for my exercise today. ;) Isabelle was a pirate and Anthony was Sully from Monsters Inc. Anthony won best costume in his age group. His prize was $10, not bad for a costume I bought on clearance at Target last year for $3.75. :teeth:

Thanks gradtcher!

I can't believe how much candy I've eaten this week. I have not kept track of anything I've eaten. :guilty: It figures I would be PMSing while we had all that chocolate laying around. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day and I am not going to beat myself up for something I can't change.

OK, now that the holidays are over I can get back on track with my diet. Yesterday I realized that we are going to Disney THIS May. I wanted to be at my goal weight of 150 by then but I don't think I could drop 60 lbs in 4 months. Yesterday and today I exercised about an hour each day. I didn't track my food yesterday but I was not bad.

Today's food:

B: apple toaster strudel
S: reduced fat PB & J on a slice of toast
L: Lean Cuisine Mac & Cheese
S: 6 slices pepperoni
D: slimfast shake
S: sherbert

Was going to put it in my BR with the other equiptment but now I am thinking of putting it in the living room. That way when I am watching TV at night I can "ride". I guess I could always watch TV in my room and "ride". Well see how big it ends up being.

I've been getting really tired in the afternoon. I guess it's from lifting weights? :confused3 I get so tired that I NEED to take a nap. When I wake up I feel guilty about sleeping so I exercise some more so I guess it's a good thing.

Checked the status of my exercise bike on Walmart.com, it has shipped and should be here tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Well, off to take a nap.

I weighed myself today. I am down to 209.2 lbs from 212 lbs. That's a 2.8 lb drop from last week. :woohoo: I am so glad I earned my 40lb clippie back. I was feeling really bad about losing that. Next stop, 45lb clippie. :thumbsup2

Have not exercised yet because DH was home sick. We watched Flight Plan. I feel very guilty about sitting around. Maybe I'll get on the exercise bike when the kids go to sleep.

I read on the Budget Board about Universal passes, kids play free with paying adult. I convinced DH that we should do that since we will be down there already. He said yes but only if we stay onsite at Universal. So now I have to figure out where to stay. We are thinking of Hard Rock. I've never been to Universal so not sure what to plan. So far we will be doing Disney for 7 or 8 days, a day at SeaWorld and now we need to figure out how many days at Universal.

I've been pretty good with food this week. Unfortunately the weekend is coming and I always end up eating more when DH is home. I've been taking long walks with the kids to get ready for all the walking we are going to do at Disney. DS still rides in the stroller which is good because he walks sooooo slow. Tomorrow is Fri so I will find out if I lost any more lbs.

Lizzydoll73
04-28-2006, 06:32 AM
Today was my weigh in day, down 1 lb to 201. I was really hoping to have lost more but I'll take it. I just have to remember to be eat better this weekend. I will take the kids for a walk and I do have to mow the lawn today so that should be my exercise today.

Lizzydoll73
05-05-2006, 06:11 AM
Down from 201 last week to 199.6 this week! It was so exciting seeing that 1 and not a 2! Now I just have to stay in the 100's. We are leaving for Disney next Friday and I think I am going to bring my scale to make sure I stay on track. We are driving so I can pack heavy. :teeth: So far this is the eating plan that I've come up with.

I am going to have my Slimfast shake for 1 meal
We are stopping at the grocery store so I will pick up some fruit, yogurt and other healthy snax
I already know I am getting Pita Quesadillas at RFC, don't know how fattening but I gotta have :rolleyes1
I plan on getting kids meals at some the counter service restaurants, an adult meal is just too much food for me and I don't know if I have the willpower to NOT eat the whole thing
We are doing a character breakfast at Cape May Cafe late so that will be my lunch for the day
I know I will walking and swimming alot so not concerned with exercise

Any other suggestions for not over indulging at Disney would be appreciated

Congrats!! My opinion, you look AWESOME!!!

Lizzydoll73
06-04-2006, 07:14 AM
Thanks Julie! Last night I went out and bought the same shorts but in sz18. The sz20 were kind of baggy so I am thinking maybe that's why I don't really see a difference.

Well, I finally got everything unpacked from our trip. It's so sad. We are not going back until 2009. Three years is such a long time but at least the kids will be 6 and 8.5. They were 3 and 5.5 this time and it was a little hard. It was great seeing their little faces light up though so I am glad we went while they were still young. I started planning already. :teeth: I loved the AKL and would love to stay there again but I am considering the Contemp also because it is so close to MK. Well, I am glad I have 3 years to figure out where to stay and to save up for it.

Well I weighed myself this am. Down to 197.8 which I am happy with because I did not stick to my eating plan while at Disney. The first week I was good but the second week I caved in. My new short term goal is to earn my 55 clippie by Father's Day.

I had planned on staining my deck and mowing the lawn today but the weather looks a little iffy. :guilty: I did manage to get some laundry, dusting and vacuuming done though. My kids have had a cold and now I think I'm getting it. I woke up with a sore throat this morning and it is still scratchy.

Well, I still feel like crap. I hope I start feeling better soon. The good part about being sick is that I was down to 194.4 this morning so I earned my 55 clippie. Hopefully when I am feeling better I won't gain anything back. I also took my measurements today. I am so glad I took my measurements when I started because even though I don't see a difference in my picture I can definetly see the difference in numbers.

Ugh, I think I might have a sinus infection. I really don't like going to the Dr. I hope this passes and I don't need antibiotics. I was down to 193.6 this am which is ok by me. We are going to my mom's for lunch today. She is making ham and potatoes. I probablly won't eat too much because I don't have much of an appetite feeling the way I do.

Thanks Julie. I am feeling much better but I still have a cough. This morning I was 191.2lbs. I am so close to the 60lb clippie. I would love to get that before July 4th!

Lizzydoll73
06-28-2006, 09:31 AM
I earned my 60 clippie! I was 188.6 this morning. I started exercising again so I think that is helping. I am really motivated now that I am more than half way to my long term goal. 150 here I come. My next short term goal is going to be earning my 65 clippie by July 12th. That's 3.4lbs in 2 weeks. I think I can do it.

Lizzydoll73
07-05-2006, 08:17 PM

Today I was 185.6lbs. Just a little more until I get my clippie! I had to stop working out last week because I pulled something in my neck or back. I think I'll wait until next week to start up again.

Lizzydoll73
07-27-2006, 08:32 AM
I was 184.8 this morning! Don't know how I lost almost a whole pound in a day but I am changing my clippie to 65. I am so happy even though my neck is still killing me. Next stop 180 so I can get my 70 clippie. It would be nice to get this for my Bday which is next Sat but I am not going to put a time limit on it since it took me longer than I wanted to get the 65 clippie.

Lizzydoll73
09-08-2006, 08:25 PM
