If you haven't posted on the transportation forum yet, I would try over there. Orlando does have a public bus system but I can't remember the link. I'll hop over to the transportation board to see if I can find the name of it (lynx, I think) and then let you know.

The public bus system web site is www.golynx.com I think you can locate bus stops and bus numbers here that you would use. I read a post that the fare is $1.25 each way with no transfer fees.

Taxis would be more expensive than car rental. The rates in Orange County are $2.00 at the flag drop (first 2/7 mile) and then $0.25 per additional 1/7 mile. Plus waiting time charges if stuck in traffic or at lights. I live two miles North of Universal Studios and it is 16.5 miles from my house to the Epcot Parking Lot. Several years ago I had to get from the Contemporary to my room in Trinidad North (Caribbean) and the meter on the taxi was $13.25 (plus tip) and I know he drove the shortest route.

Also, you would have to factor in the cost between the Airport and your hotel.

It looks like your hotel has free shuttle service to the Disney parks. That should save you a few $$. You could then use that savings to splurge on a taxi for your day at Universal Studios. Taking the Lynx buses will involve transferring once in each direction and the buses do not run all that frequently.

Rent a car! It would be cheaper then taxis everywhere and far easier then hotel shuttles. Most hotel shuttles run only on a certain schedule, which may not be yours. Call the hotel and ask the schedule and practices i.e. do they go back and up when there are too many people for one shuttle? do they require reservations in advance for the shuttle? Don't forget, the car will save you time and aggravation, both of which may well make it cost effective for you. We rent a car on all off trips, which are usually offsite.
