AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! We're getting REALLY CLOSE!!!

I haven't had time to read the last half of last weeks threads yet. I just got back into town from a wedding. I have read a few threads with short posts though. It's amazing how much things can change in 5 days!

I'm feeling like I am ready nad rested and can do anything now. So for the first time in some time I plan on following my scheduled walks and seeing how my calves react to that. I believe I'm only scheduled to do 2 or 4 mile walks this week with the exception of Staurday- at which time I'm supposed to do a 12 mile walk! Can I do it????

How is your training going this week?

I just read the last half of last weeks thread.

YOU GUYS ALL RULE!!!!

You're such an inspiration to me. Thank you for that!

Lisa- I'm so sorry to hear about your pain in the bum! I understand how you feel about wanting to do the training, but being told to calm down and not train. I wish I could tell you that I followed what I was told to do. Well, I guess for the most part I did. I've really stayed away from walking big distances and even walking daily. Juts do what your trainer says. They know how to fix these things. Sending pixie dust your way!

Dawn- AWESOME!!! WTG with the mileage and time!!

Who else needs pixie dust sent??? Maybe we can get the tag fairies to send some to the injured masses in time to repair us for the marathon!!!

I'm starting this training thread with a rest day. I ran 3.5 miles yesterday. My last long run is Thursday morning, and I am so nervous! 12 miles!
The bad news is my new shoes are hurting one of my toes. I'm getting "runner's toe" where you hemorrage under the nail bed. Time to go back to my old shoes. Hope my toe gets better in 3 weeks!
Good luck this week This should be the week that everyone does their last long push and then taper, taper, taper. Have fun and enjoy how far you've come. :)

Everyone is doing so terrific. I'm getting excited to meet everyone. I just found the website for GU and found there is a sporting good store in my town (DUH I hadn't even thought of that because I think of that for things like kyak's, hiking, skiing, etc) I'm hoping to find the pack that is like a fanny pack (unless it doesn't hold much else). I'm thinking I want a pack large enough to roll up long sleeve cool max shirt (I don't really want to throw that out since it's so lightweight).

The GU website say's that you should take one 15 minutes prior on an empty stomach. and then one every 45 minutes and one right after you completete your exercise. So does this mean that you shouldn't eat before the marathon in the morning? Is anyone using the GU20?

Everyone hang in there.

In answer to questions posed earlier about what/how we are proceeding:

Sorry, can't answer the gu question. I am planning on something else before race start and then trying to decide on the gu during. I found I can tolerate about a half portion some miles in then add the other portion a little ways down. I guess I will take 2-3 packs withme and probably plan to only use maybe 2.

I have had that nauseous feeling and figured it to timing of my eating. If it is too close I don't like that I think.

I am planning on wearing a tighter fit shorts or if really cold, then tights. I will layer on from there. Still have to gather the goods, but I have what I want. Socks I will wear a pair I got from Fleet Feet, but can't remember the brand. They are the pair that actually have a left foot and a right foot designation and mostly seamless as my feet are so sensitive.

Need to find a blanket to bring along.

I am in the crosstraining taper mode I think. We will see how this week goes. Not sure if I will up my training from the last way too low level or just keep it at what I have been doing.

I hope to try to keep track of all that is going on and some way hope it comes together. The myriad ov posts has my head spinning to try to keep things all straight about our planned meet ups.

Good luck today to everyone.

Keep on keepin' on.

Eat breakfast before hopping the busses--something light...take the gu 15 minutes prior to race start--your stomach will be sufficiently ready for gu at that point if not completely empty. Gu is intended to digest quickly and if you eat it with food which takes longer to digest--I don't think the Gu will work as it is supposed to.

I'm having it out with my coach--not really--I think it's PMS..I asked too many questions and provided too much info here and not enough there--and basically was told to chill out!

If I don't work out--I'm going to grow!!! And I don't mean taller! I've already gained like 2 pounds from last weeks hiatus!

You know--my kids started this whole pain in the **** thing--and I was doing just fine from their birth until about a week ago! GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE...

he always says to ask for a modified schedule if you need one--so I needed one b/c I didn't want to do too much--so he gave me one...and I asked for a different one...grrrrrr!

I hate PMS! At least I won't have to worry about that and the after effects at Disney! I think I'll put lime green Mickey's on my butt and when y'all are ready to take me down--you'll know who it is!

Gotta go read/surf about this - I have this periodically too - didn't know it was called runner's toe. Mine usually takes a few days to feel better - but one thing is the nail area seems to really thicken - so this last time I actually filed and smoothed the nail and it seemed much better. Also, sometimes I lose the nail too. I have also put vaseline on the toe and that seems to help on the longer walks - PM me if you want more conversation.

Lisa - sweetie - sounds like PMS to me - all I can think to add is -"this too shall pass" - I will be looking for those lime green Mickey's tho :earboy2:

Karen - OF COURSE you CAN DO 12 MILES - Piece of cake - and then just think after you do it - the mind game is WON - you will have done 12 miles and what's a lousy one more when you go do the real thing!!! Sending PD your way and yes, add me to the list of those (if you got one) for needing some PD too - my "bun" pain is still there and I am just thinking positively that it will NOT be a factor January 9th.

Everyone - you are doing a great job - and BTW where in the heck is Kimmickey we haven't heard from her for a while - do we think that Uncle Sam is keeping her from her training ?

Can't wait to meet everyone - and let's start a thread after the holidays with pictures of those who will be at WDW so we can have a jump start on recognizing one another. What do you think?

Keep up the good work everyone !!!!! Gotta go check out runners toe and then should get busy being a Santa helper too :wave2:

Hi there,

I just did 3.5 miles on the TM. Got my new bra's today! I love them so far. The test will be wearing them while doing a long walk. I plan a 10 mile walk this week some time.

I got the "runners toe" or black toe as someone called it last week when I did the 5 & 8 mile walk. My nail was sore for days. Today is the first day it really feels better and I felt like I could walk. The skin itched around it last night. I heard they call it black toe because your nail sometimes gets black and falls off. I bought new shoes 1/2 size bigger to hopefully alleviate it. I also got new socks tonight too. I hope this takes care of the problem.

wooohooo....I just did 10 miles!

I am so siked. I just got off treadmill, I havent even firgured out time yet........I actually reset my treadmill, when it hit 100 minutes.......So that plus 39:15 minutes...
total of 139:15 minutes......ahhhhhh

ahhhhh
ahhhhh
lol
can someone figur that out for me........
I have to say the SOCKS WORK!!!!!!!!!!
I wasnt able to find cool max but found a pair just for running at models they were about 8 bucks.......
lolI am so cheap but glad I spent the money........They seriuosly work my feet DO NOT HURT AT ALL!
(perhaps tomorrow! lol)

Anyway thing is, I am a waitress..sooooooooooooo
I can wear them for work!lol
I really do feel good.........about half hour into it, I noticed I was comfy at walking for 2 minutes then running for 3 or four minutes..........
The core of my run I did just that and I am not een sweating that bad.....pacing defintly works.......
last treadmill biggie was 2 hours long ( I did time rather that distance) that time, I did 8.25 miles at the 2 hour mark........ thhis time I uncovered the LCD ( I cover the whole darn thing with duck tape cause I find myself looking to much) I uncovered it at 2 hours just out of curiousity and found I ran more pacing myself at this rate I was at 8.75! thats a hal fmiule faster than last time.

I was so tempted to do the whole thing but honestly, I got bored.I was watching tv and had just had enough..........
sorry I am going on and on but I couldnt wait to get off and post thatttttttttttt

I really think I can do this now............

Love you all for your support and advice.......

P.s for those of you who have followed my ticket dilemma, guest communications finally contacted me and they are trying to reissue my lost tickets.............

I just posted on last week's thread, but I'll post again here. Everyone is doing so well in their training. I am admitting that my training isn't where it really should be, but I am going to start the 1/2 and see where it takes me. Thankfully I think I have convinced AnnieT to start with me. We both have been away for a while.

I am nervous about what to wear, what to pack in a fanny pack, what to eat (before & after) and how how to get enough sleep the night before. I appreciate reading about everyone's techniques and thoughts, so please keep them coming. I am making notes on things and bookmarking items too. I have got to get me a new pair of shoes and try them on several walks, so I know that will get me out there. I also need to figure out the socks, bra, etc.

Keep up the great work and the inspiration that you all are giving us all. We are all in this together. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

I feel much better now--although PMS is sneaking it's way into my mind. Blast womanhood!!

I was studying the map--"the think system" ;)

Anyway--when you are walking through the MK parking lot on your way to contemporary hill--you only have 4 miles left..and then when you get into MK, it's only like 2 miles left...then you just practice your--gotta get through MK as quick as possible--you know, like we do when we hit the parks ;) And you are almost done. Just think--a quick jaunt through the park!

I think that I will be walking from MK to AK--anything but running, so that I won't even think about turning off. I am also going to carry the map with me and mark the time splits on it--so that I know that I have to be at mile such a such by this time or that. This way--I know if the sweeper is going to catch up to me...I don't want to get picked up :)

I think you NC'ers will be very surprised how many of us that have been training all along are feeling the EXACT way you are now! Most of us have never done a marathon before and many of us have injuries that we just don't know what will happen with them! I love your attitudes and the fact that you are all trying .... even if you think you won't be able to do it. I think you may be surprised!

I didn't have any official training today.... but I worked REALLY hard at my first day on my new job.... at THE DISNEY STORE! Boy! Am I tired- I was on my feet for 4 hours straight! I'm telling you right now, if I hadn't been training for this maarthon, I never would've made! Tomorrow- I WALK FIRST THING IN THE AM.... BEFORE I go to work! How do you working women do it??????

Hi everyone YIKES we are close now. Less than 3 weeks to go! I can't believe how fast the time has gone since we all signed up for this "endeavor". I can't wait to actually meet all you guys!!! Sending loads of PD :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To all that are injured that you heal quickly and to all that are not injured that we stay healthy! I probably won't have time to post much this week as I still have loads to do to get ready for Christmas but I will be thinking of all of you and doing my best to get my walks in. I have my 8 mile (tapering back :D ) walk marked on my calendar for Wed and I just hope the roads aren't icy so I can get this in. I am too busy right now to be getting tooo nervous but next week at this time I will probably be starting to go crazy  . Nerves, excitement, packing and making sure everything is set fot DH and DD whom I am leaving at home, yep I'll definitely be starting to go crazy next week lol.

I'll try and check in as much as I can this week so I don't fall to far behind on how all my buddies are doing. In the mean time just keep repeating WE WILL NOT BE SWEPT, WE WILL NOT BE SWEPT! Have a great week everyone! See you real soon!

Trained today according to plan. (50 min. on the treadmill run2 /walk3). I am nursing my blisters but they are not too bad. I ordered Wright 's no blister socks from REI today. Merry Xmas to me!! I'm feeling really good about this race. I did 10 miles last weekend and could not believe that within about 15 minutes after I finished I really felt back to normal with sweaty clothes. Big Surprise to me. The Penguin knows his stuff. Regular training this week, 1- 8 mile and 1 - 5 mile and the real taper begins!!
Wiskband - We are on the same plan and about the same place. (Your faster!)
Tomorrow i have to go the funeral of a fellow teacher's husband. He ignored the beginning signs of lung cancer and it spread to his brain. It is really sad. No training for me but comfort for her.

Better news - My stepson is in the state and with my son in Minneapolis. My husband will go and pick him up tomorrow and my son will be coming home on the 24th. Haven't seen my stepson for almost 2 years.

Just got my hoppers in the mail. Starting to feel real!

Hope everyone has a good training week and a fab holiday!!!

Good morning everyone. It's so exciting to read about everyone's success and everyone is doing so terrific.

Darn it all if I didn't get sick. I've had a deep cough every once in a while since last Friday. Last night after doing the 3 miles on the treadmill it started to get worse. I went straight to bed, took some nyquil and passed out into a very good sleep. Haven't slept that good in a while. Bad thing is I woke up this morning with a VERY deep cough and my normal voice is sounding scratchy. It also hurts very bad to cough from my chest. I think I may make an appointment at the Dr. this afternoon and go home from work early. I need to get better soon and a cough is the last thing I need trying to do a marathon.

I went to the sporting good store that was supposed to have the GU. They don't have it and the guy didn't even know what I was talking about. UGGH!!

Renee- Awesome job on the 10 miles. I have to do my 10 or 11 mile walk this week too.
Dcaff- I hope your blisters get better. I bought the same anti blister Wright socks too. I hope they work well. I like that they are thin.

Cherly- We will not get swept, we will not get swept! I believe !!

Lisa- Hang in there. Sending more pixie dust your way that you make a full recovery before the race.

Hey Tammy & NC. I believe you will do better than you ever imagined even without the advanced training. Ihaven't trained much since June and it's amazing how well my body is responding.
Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone! I did 3.5 again this a.m. and felt great. I went back to my old shoes and my toe is thanking me. Yes. the nail began to turn purple-ish, but I think it will return to normal or grow out since I switched shoes. My last lon run is Thursday!

I am relieved to hear that you are nervous, too! It's an excited nervous...how will the run go? Will I finish? Will I have pain? Will it feel easy or be a struggle? Will I freeze or will it be warm? My goodness, will it rain?! LOL! What if I fall on my booty? No, just kidding!

Happy training everyone. If you are on to taper already, I am jealous! I need to pick up some lime green Mickeys for my backpack in the parks. I'm not sure that I'll make any meets as I have a friend with me who doesn't DIS and would probably think I'm a looney for meeting up with internet people! (even if you are all nice!) ;) Hope to "run" into you in 2 or so weeks!

Hi ho! Everyone

Tinks, you could bring along your friend too. If not, good luck in your run.

Lisa, I want to thank you again for all the help and inspiration you have provided through our journey. If you need some help during your taper I would recommend that you check the Marathoning for Mortals book by John Bingham. It specifically addresses the difficulty that many of us will have during this time. We want to continue doing and it is difficult to back off as we must at this point. Pulling for you to get through this. Oh and if need be, I'd be happy to "kick you into gear" during the first half.
:earboy2:
Karen, ohboyohboyohboy, this weather news will make it perfect. Even if it is a bit cooler. Sure beats the frozen tundra we have here. Oohhh and a cast member now too! That is good news. Good thing you have been in training that you could make it through your first day inthe "theater" for sure.

Melanie, sorry about your being sick. At this point if you can't find gu by now, maybe you can try for some sort of candy boost? I know "Team Canada" was using strawberry twizzlers or something like that I think.

I had a decent workout at the gym yeaterday. Five minutes recumbant, 30 minutes of eliptical cross trainer, 30 minutes of TM and then upper body machines and stretching. Whew! It was great!

Everyone that I did not mention we are doing a great job. It's almost here!

Hello ladies!

Glad to see everyone is ready to go! Take care of those sore bodies!

I finish my last long run this coming Sun.-15 miles. It will be my longest. The last time I maxed out at 14 miles, so we'll see. :o I too, feel like I've been slacking this past week or so. Too much to do, in too little time. Yeah, Karen, that working mom thing is tough sometimes-but it all comes together in the end!

We still haven't made any dining arrangements and I'm trying to juggle meeting up with some other people I know who are running. Hopefully, we'll get to Trail's End on Saturday.

We are planning to do the family 5k and kids' races. Is anyone else doing that? I thought I remember a few people were planning to go.

Have a great week, and enjoy the holidays!!

Thanks Lily!

It actually took my coach to say this:
"Just do what feels comfortable, and if that is nothing, then do nothing. You are as prepared as you are going to get. It is not one week, two weeks or three weeks that is going to make the difference. It is the total of 20 weeks and the adrenaline rush you get on the course, taht will carry you."

Which I read as--if my pain in the butt keeps me sitting on my butt--the liklihood is High that I will be able to race no problem. I just said no to working out today!!

I think I will swim again tomorrow--but with using noodles and just simulate the running motion with my legs (very funny looking I would think to on-lookers as it looks like I am moving like a snail through the water).

Ho hum--had to modify my diet--no more sugary concoctions for me as I don't have any high cal burning runs ahead of me to off-set that.

Lisa- it's always nice to know you have a sense of humor! When all else fails- humor can go a long way!! Be thankful you can swim laps. I can hardly move right now. I think between 2 days in a car and standing for 4 hours at worok I did my back a real disservice. I'm going to see my friend the chiropractor today to see if he can straighten me out before I ahve to stand for another 4 hours at work today. If I can get into see him, I'll try doing some walking after. But I'm telling ya right now, if I continue to ahve back problems because of this job, I will quit so I can do the half. Ugh, Karen, I feel your pain. Maybe a nice hot tub soak would help the back. ;)

:cool1: I somehow posted on last week's thread, so am reposting it below. Thanks, Lisa, for pointing this out. Heck! I finally get to do some walking, I want it noted! lol :p

Good morning! I had another good day, yesterday. I started the late morning off with my first massage. mmmmmm. When we finished she told me a couple of more stretches to help my hip/thigh/backside. Apparently there is a muscle back there that will shorten and cause pain (along with the ITBS thingie). . . and I always thought that it was sciatica or something.

After the massage, and a quick bite, I had a long, hot bath in the jacuzzi tub. Then I zipped over for a quick visit with my mom, picking up/dropping off shopping for/from Susan.

After supper, I was determined to finish the job that didn't get started the night before-wrapping-but wait! I decided to walk. DS-20-said, "Yeah, right. Do you know how COLD it is out there?" COLD? DD's just grinned and said, "See you in an hour or so, mom!" (Can you tell that he doesn't live with me anymore, and that I have changed myself?) Did my walk in good time, finished my wrapping and then popped a couple of ibuprofen (had been warned that I might feel a bit stiff from the massage) and headed to bed.

Now, what is it about wrapping that, just when you think that you are all done, you trip on a bag of 5 items that needs to be wrapped? And then then when you are sure that you are done, you remember that gift that you hid in the closet? And of course, just when you are positive that that is it. . . you remember. . . you haven't bought the lottery tickets yet?

Wrapping counts as cross-training, right? :earboy2:

On my honor--I am NOT exercising again until MONDAY.

I promise...the marathon is more important that a tad little bit of exercise!

An oxymoron--but that is my promise...NO EXERCISE, NO EXERCISE, NO EXERCISE!!!

Check up on me on Monday (though I might be out of town)--if I exercise before then----THROW a really big book at me (just don't aim for my back).

I was really achy today--but I think it is b/c I made the mistake of getting in the hot tub. That is so against what I have been doing in training--no heat after any kind of workout!

So I'm letting the pain be gone--and will avoid exercise to make sure it is gone.

What a Wish challenge this is--so don't all be jealous at once--I'd trade you in a quick second! ;)

This may be long. Good and bad news but my marathon is still intact.
Good news: My step son arrived Tues. night. Great to see him. He got to surprise his 6 year old son at his Christmas program on Wed. My son finished his last final on Tues. Now he has 1 semester of clinicals and he will be an RN!! He's really excited!! I'm still on my training plan , Today 50 min. on the treradmill. I have been crosstraining in the mall and grocery store like everyone else. I am on Xmas vacation from school today too.
Okay some bad news but okay now.
Karebear: Do you know how wonderful 50 degrees and 70 degree sounds to me?
To start it was -29 below this am when I woke up(no wind though). Started my husband's truck for him( he has one more day of work) He works inthe Heating business and today is a really busy day for him. The worst was yesterday at 8:00 am when my 17 year lost control of her car on an icey overpass and hit the cement bariers 3 times. She is okay. Just a bit stiff and very emotionally shaken. Her airbags went off and she was wearing a seat belt!! Her little Dodge Neon actually held up very well. The damage is limited to the front . The Highway patrol did not give her a ticket ,because up here went it gets really cold, exhaust freezes on contact on bridges and froms black ice. She was only going 45 mph. We thank God for his blessings in the situation. All is well. Hope everyone finds a moment to relax and enjoy your own blessings among the hustle and bustle. Happy Holidays!!!

Beckie, to you and especially your daughter. We had a similar thing last Christmas, and we, like you, considered our daughters' lack of injuries a Christmas gift to us all. I still can't believe how well they (17 and 12) handled themselves. Our Neon, however, did NOT survive the swim in the creek....and I got my ECHO as a present to myself. :) The worry and adrenaline that you've been through is your crosstraining for the week! I agree about the weather. ANYthing will be better than today. I'll get my walk just walking to the postoffice, and my fingers will be crossed that I don't fall on the way. No day for time, just safety.

Lily, part of my pain, goes to the front of the thigh. I figured that any stretching that I do, will help my whole body. Ice is good, too, I hear. (Me, I prefer mine-ice, that is- in a glass. :drinking1 but that can work, too!) Seriously, if you need the NSAIDs, don't forget them.

Lisa, you know what you have to do. NOTHING! Enjoy the respite, and don't worry! I finally checked my time from Tuesday night, and I couldn't believe. I think that it was my fastest time ever. :teeth: Rest is as important as the run!

Karen, how much have you spent at your new job? :D I know that I would OWE the store, if I worked there!

Wrapping update: Yesterday we had Christmas with my favourite cousin and her family. When we left DH opened the van trunk and said. . .are you ready?. . .. :faint: "What's this?" Um...that would be the last minute present bought last week that obviously fell under the seat. I figured that I had wrapped it and forgot about doing so. Noooooooo. Quick, grab that bag that one of the gifts came in. Write on it. Kyle Love Mom and Dad Phew! DONE....again.

Dcaff....how scary! Thank goodness she is o.k. I thought we had it cold! (-4 tonight) I guess I won't complain.

My good news.....I finished my last long run this morning! :) 12 miles under my belt and it wasn't that bad!!! (eleven was worse last week for whatever reason.) My toe feels good and I feel great. I pray I feel this good on race day.

Merry Christmas and Happy training everyone :cool1:

We leave in 2 weeks :cool1:

no time for catching up still :) still on training program here in snowy Ohio -- about a foot or so of the white stuff dumped on us yesterday, so I did my 2 mile WATP twice this morning for my walk, it's not the same but it's something. I plan on an 8 miler tomorrow morning before the holiday festivities all day at my house. Merry Christmas everyone ((((HUGS)))) -- i shall return next week

Hi all!

I think I took tapering off a little too seriously this week. I've done very little walking since my 10 miles last weekend. Today, and probably for the next two as well, I'm going to do a walk/jog on the mini-trampoline. It's raining here and the kidlets are home, so a walk outside isn't possible.

Well, tuesday was DD & DS's last day at their preschool. We told them they "graduated." I'm busy trying to find itinerant service providers that have openings. DS's IEP meeting is scheduled for the 4th of January, so hopefully I'll find therapists by then. This whole thing has really been a nightmare. One good thing is that an acquaintance of my husband is a lawyer who specializes in educational law. He has been giving me some advice on how to write an effective formal letter of complaint and the appropriate people to send it to. I'm hoping this prompts a full investigation of the director and the school. At this point I'm not planning on personally bringing the school to court. I would have needed to keep the children in the school to make any action successful, and I'm not prepared to expose Ds to a discriminatory environment any longer. The lawyer thinks that I made the right decision. Now my goal is to change things for the other children. At his IEP meeting I'll put my formal complaint into the record so that it's noted that we left under protest. Hopefully that will keep the school district from eliminating future services.

I am sooo going to need this vacation. The marathon has become almost secondary to the recharging of energies/morale that my family needs. I'm still participating, plan to finish, and can't wait to meet all of you wonderful people, but the marathon just isn't my focus right now. Maybe that will change after Christmas and after I get all my letters sent.

Keep up all the good work everyone! Two weeks from today I'll be flying to Orlando!!!

Hello WISH WALKers!
I know I haven't been able to post, but I am definitely keeping up with the threads. No long walk for me yet - not quite sure what to do about that. Our basement flooded (from the humidifier) and then the furance died, and as a result my asthma has flaired up big time. I am currently on day 3 of Prednisone but the doctor doesn't want me walking outside because of the cold temps (currently 10º here with a windchill of -5º) and I can't walk downstairs on the treadmill because of the water damage. Anyone know if I could 'crosstrain' the 10 miles instead? I am willing to do 2 of the WATP 4 mile tapes and then the 2 mile WATP tape continuously if that would help keep my training going. I can do that in the family room up here. Lisa, do you think that would work? I know it isn't walking, but it is continuous movement for 2.5 hours. I should be able to get back outside by next week for the scheduled 5 mile taper walk.

Everyone is working so hard and I am so proud of all of us!! I wear my lime green Inspire bracelet from Bev everyday! I know I am feeling that pre-race excitement but I am already thinking about doing this again next year! :earseek: Of course, that will have to be confirmed when we see how I feel 17-18 days from now. ;)

Lisa - you have STRICT orders! No exercising, or I will have to pull out the whip to keep you down and resting!

Karen - you are a Cast Member! WOO HOO!! Now you have double duty. Being our WISH leader AND keeping us posted about any Disney Store deals! :teeth:

Melanie - I hope you are to get to the doctor and get that cough taken care of! It's hard walking long and fast without being able to breathe properly!

TLily - I love gym workouts you are getting in! I miss having a gym and am looking forward to finding one after the marathon.

Debbie - Massage! Mmmmmmmm!!! I forsee a couple of those in my future upon our return. DH gets a monthly massage for his bad back and has found an RN/Massage Therapist that knows her stuff. No accidently hurt muscles from her. :)

PixieChick - 15 miles! WOW! I am SO impressed with the full marathoners! I am envious of your Mickey Medal - just not sure I have what it takes to get it.

Decaff - Whew! I am so thankful that your dd is okay. Hugs to you and yours! Scary stuff!!

Twinsmom - I am so sorry that you having these problems at school. I hope you can find some reasonable solution to your school situation. In this day and age, you just wouldn't think you would have to deal with something like this! Keep working on the family thing - the marathon will still be coming in January. :)

All my WISH friends! We are doing this!! I feel the surge as we get closer!! GO WISHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: Jan 6 is up on Accuweather.com - high 72, low 53, partly sunny! Let's hope that holds true for the rest of our days there!

Yes ma'am--this is why I told myself--it is sooooo tempting..and that is why I'm still at the point I'm at this moment! I asked my mom about her back issues (she's 100% disabled)...the good thing from this pain in the ummmm rear..is I do not have any shooting pains going down my legs.

Good news--I've switched to biofreeze...going to see if not icing but just using this stuff will work for my "cool" therapy :cool1: . I just don't feel anywhere the amount of pain necessary to requiring icing--but just enough to be annoying (from my workout and dumb post-workout hop in the hot tub)...and the biofreeze is working on it Oh, so nicely.

Yippee skippy--I like those numbers!

I've been sick all week with a horrendous cough, and I haven't been to the gym at all :guilty:

I am on a hunt for tight running tights that will help with my thigh problem. I've ordered a couple of different types to see how they do. I don't want to have to wear a girdle for the race but at this rate I may have to for compression.

I bought running socks and they feel heavenly. They make a real difference. I've been doing 3 miles at a time on the treadmill (fast walk, only a couple of minutes of running per mile) and I am able to hold my own with it. Tomorrow if there's time I'll try for more!

I'm both excited and scared, lol.

Good thursday Evening Everyone,

I've only had one round of treadmill walking this week but I've done two days of mall walking (shopping). Today was cross training day. I've been sorting and wrapping presents since 5:30 this morning. I'm almost done. I've had a few breaks to shovel snow. I don't know who sent this stuff our way but they can have it back. I bet we've got two feet of the stuff. My DH didn't go into work today because he wouldn't have made it without going in the ditch. Our subdivision just got plowed around 6. The road into the city is now ploughed but quite icy. I'm hoping a salt truck goes down there before 7 tomorrow when I''m headed to the grocery store to pick up the stuff I need. Somehow I got volunteered to make the dressing for Saturday. I'm going to try and get some walking done tomorrow on my treadmill and a long walk on Sunday.

I hope that everyone has a safe, happy and stress free Christmas. Be sure to walk off some of that supper on Saturday.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow WISH Walkers!!!

Wowzers everyone! You are all doing so well! Either really doing, really trying, or really trying not to (Lisa) :teeth:

I haven't gone to do anything out or in. All that is going areound here is snow removal. I did not make it to work for the half day I was scheduled to be in. I spent 4 hours messing around in this horrible snow stuff today. Good news is that we can get the cars moved around now. I'm very tired so off I go.

Stay safe, stay warm. It won't be long now.

I know this looks familiar to some of you in the midwest right now......

<a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSYYYYYYYYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_4_9.gif' border=0></a>

But in 2 weeks, this will look familiar to ALL of us!

<a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSYYYYYYYYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_1_16.gif' border=0></a>

BUT for now.... all I want to say is

<a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSYYYYYYYYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_2_58.gif' border=0></a>

I have had back spasms all day today off an on. I finally took some tylenol- and that helped alot. It dawned on me that I have not seriously walked in about a month now. I hope I'll beok for the half. I think I will as when I ahve walked my long m ileage in the past month, my time was ok and I was not tired at all from the walking. I'm just not sure, as far as the back goes, if I should try walking or not. I'm sorry that others are injured too, but at least I feel like there are those out there that understand the frustration of an injury you don't really want!!

Just wondering how Grammy is doing with her injuries???

Debbie- I have spent a grand total of $10.48 at my new job! BIG SPENDER!!! I LOVE this job- it's really quite fun and you can't leave there unhappy-- you smile so much at people it just stays with you for hours afterwards. I will be happy to make everyone aware of future sales! It would be my Disney Duty!

Now- I just really wannt to wish all my friends the nicest holiday weekend you could ever have. I will be thinking of you all and thanking our Heavenly Father for some rather special friends I have accumulated over the last year or so. You have all made such a positive impact on my life. THANK YOU- for being such a great source of strength and encouragemnet to me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas--

Yeah--hubby is letting us drive to my mom's house tonight!!! He is such a softy...it will probably be our last traveling at Christmas with the kids...we've been to my mom's house the past 2 years on Christmas Day and hubby wanted to spend it at his family's house--but it breaks the Thanksgiving/Christmas Day rule. Last year Thanksgiving at his parents house, so my mom got Christmas. Should have been flip flopped this year--but then everybody decided to got to his brother's in Atlanta...which means that my mom got Christmas again. I'm such a meanie--but he's whining that his bro' is coming down just for Christmas day to which I replied that I am not the UPS delivery truck and don't like spending the holidays picking up and dropping off packages. And we saw is brother at Thanksgiving!!! Okay--rant over--it will be a happy holiday and hubby will enjoy his new toy (robosapien robot).

The sacrum pain has subsided--very nearly tearfully, I prayed last night over the whole ordeal and "made a deal" with God--so bad I know...I just asked to be able to run and if he just made the whole darn thing go away--I promised not to exercise until Monday. They were playing that "You raise me up" song on Z88.3 (Christian Radio Station)--so I just basically begged. I woke up this morning...still with the achy back problems that I've been having when waking up the last week or so...but the sacrum pain is virtually non-existent. I am so hoping it is an answered prayer. And since I have now promised God I wouldn't exercise--I am now bound to it! (Not that I wasn't before--but you know what I mean ;) ).

Karen--just do what I am doing and do nothing and give it a go on the 9th. They told me at 3 weeks out when this happened that my lack of activity will benefit me more than pushing through. I know that your hiatus has been a bit longer--but remember all the training you have done and all is not lost!

Merry Christmas to all!

Just wanted to say hello and wish all who celebrate Christmas a Very Merry Christmas! My training seems to be going the way of many others in that it has been derailed by my left foot swelling so much that I cannot get my exercise sneakers on (I already have a 4E with the ace wraps and they don't get any larger) so it has been whatever I can get in with the cheap ones that are a whole size bigger and do kind of fit my feet. I am hoping to do 4 miles on the treadmill at work as I am doing the overnight (someone has to and it is holiday overtime). I am just going to do my best on the 9th. Also I will try to be in the beginning of the last corral to possibly give myself a few extra minutes.
Hoping everyone gets better quickly.
Decaff, I am so happy that your daughter is ok. It must have been very scary for you. Cars can be replaced, people can't.

Merry Christmas to all my WISH marathon buddies! Have a safe and blessed weekend. All that are traveling stay safe. I luv you ladies and wish you all the best  Those that are nursing injuries have a relaxing weekend and I will say some extra prayers for you and some extra prayers that those of us that are injury free stay that way. I will have lots of time for praying today because we have to get to church 45 min. before mass starts to make sure we have a seat and we have to have a seat becaues DD is an angel in the playet that is part of the special 4:00 service.

This frigid cold weather is tampering with my walks. Wed. was supposed to have been my 8 miler but with windchills of -10 I just couldn't get out there and the treadmill is broken so I did my 4 mile WATP. Today it is even colder, if that could be possible, so I will be doing WATP again. Hopefully they are right about the warmup on Sun., 25 sounds hot compared to what it has been the last few days lol, so I will hopefully do my 8 miles on Sun.

Keep up the great work everyone and again a Merry Christmas to all!

wahoo!! The family was very surprised with their trip. My husband immediately started doing the numbers and wished I had told him before he spent so much on gifts. I'm so glad not to have to keep a secret any longer. My friend says that Christmas is the time for secrets and lies. This year was truely that. My son was at his girlfriend's family's home and said he would not be home until this morning early. He surprised us and came home at midnight Christmas Eve. I love having all my kids under one roof. I slept so well!! We spent the day eating and playing Texas Hold em on the new game table. And more eating and now some are watching "The Sound of Music" so playing video games and watching DVDs. I love a full house.

I haven't moved for 3 days. I need to do something tomorrow. I moved my 8 mile to Monday out of convinence. Next Sat. a 5 mile and then the real taper!! I'm so excited to do this !!!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for my DD. She is fine and even drove yesterday. She is still sad about her car but the body guy says it shouldn't be too bad. Don't know what Too Bad means though. They went out to look at the car and were surprised at the minimal damage. She said her hide a key was still under the bumper. LOL!!

Everything is going well. Hope everyone had a Peaceful and Relaxing Christmas!!! Blessings to you all!!

Good morning everyone!!!

I feel like sweet and sour pork this morning!! I ate so much yesterday- and I have the sweetness resting and relaxing- and realizing this marathon is in 14 dyas..... but the sourness of knowing that I have rested and relaxed for the last month and know that this marathon is in 14 days!!! My back has been so out of sorts- hoping the resting isn;t the cause of it.

2 WEEKS TO GO!!!!

How was everyone's Christmas?

I had a great Christmas. Very relaxing and got some Disney Dollars!!! Yeah!

For the next two weeks my focus will be healthy eating (no white flour, no sugar). I just feel better all over (and especially my joints) when I eat right. I want to show up on Friday feeling the best I can. We'll just save that dragged down, sugar coma, feeling for the end of the week! ;)

I'll be doing a nice long slow walk today, and do easy morning walks each weekday.....kind of like I'd always do for WDW 'conditioning' anyway. I visit the chiropractor this Tuesday for my final 'realignment'.

I had been trying to find out some information regarding the massages at the race, but haven't gotten a response to my PM or e-mail to my friend. So, if you think you may want one....just throw some cash in your fanny pack I guess.

I'm getting soooooooooooooooooooooooo excited!!!

My last long run is done. 15.4 miles! Next week, I'm scheduled for 10 miles on Saturday. I figure that's a great way to start the new year. :D My legs are a little sore, but not too bad.

Karen: hope the back gets better soon. You can do this!

wiskband: I don't start a taper until next week. Any more than that and my legs would get "funky". How are you feeling, do you need the extra rest? Personally, I don't think a half requires much of a taper (a week is fine)or things like carb loading. I also don't worry about much more than water and some gatorade during a race. I bring a gel pack with me just in case. But I'm not very experienced and can only speak to how my body has reacted, so take my opinion with a grain of salt!

Becki: glad to hear your daughter is okay, and that you had the whole gang together!

geetey: I wish I was a full marathoner--I  the mickey medal. But no, I'm a half marathoner like you. I just do better mentally knowing I can cover the distance. 10-12 miles is pretty easy for me now, so it just made sense to keep going.

Good training to everyone!

Merry Christmas Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great christmas, and that the injuries are healing.

We have been at my in-laws since Thursday, very relaxing and way too much food.

Santa was very generous to us all. I received a foot spa, and a heart rate monitor!

I went for my 8 mile run yesterday (yep on Christmas Day). I went after opening gifts and before dinner. It took me 2 hours 10 minutes and 39 seconds. Last weekend I ran 10 miles in 2 hours 17 minutes, so I was definately slower yesterday. But I attribute that to the hills. It is all hills here. My elevation varied from 35 ft above sea level to 425 ft, so my legs got a great workout! Not that I planned it that way.

I am feeling good today, no aches or pains, and I hope that everyone else is feeling good, or will be soon.

I just asked my coaches (Ever so delicately so I don't get "coached" at ;)) for guidelines on the minimum I can do so as not to cause problems and such...no gym access until Wednesday b/c we will be going to Tampa first thing in the a.m., so I asked if 2 more days would make a difference on the restart and will be awaiting word on that.

Did my long walk this morning. Woke up early (before 5:00) and decided this might be a good 'test' run. Had a sandwich, grabbed my fanny pack and radio and out I went. Did I let 10ºF (windchill->4ºF) and snow deter me? NO!!! Off I went into the dark at 6:45. Used my Power Gels and even a bit of the Clif bar to sustain me. Had my water, but it froze on me. That was when I knew that it was cold out there! :earboy2: Felt myself walk quickly and slowly depending on the time, and ended up doing my cooldown for the last little bit because the roads had gotten busy with traffic and slick with ice. End result: 9 miles in just over 2½ hours. I'll take that! :flower:

I had a wonderful Christmas yesterday with my family. Lots of goodies to eat...does that constitute as carb-loading? Hope everyone else had the same!

Wrapping update: The kids were talking about their gifts yesterday, and I realized that there was one box (one with the books for the girls, snowboard helmet for DS17 etc.) that hadn't been distributed. We did that when we got home last night. This morning, DS17, was off to shop. I asked him what he was going to buy, and he told me. I replied, "But [I]I I got you that." Nope. The electric razor? Nope and "I was real disappointed about that, Mom." A search through the house came up with a bag of gifts (the "big" ones! :earseek: ) for him and a couple for his youngest sister....and you guessed it....they had gotten overlooked and were NOT wrapped! :faint:

This is a repost, since I really posted on the wrong thread. I think that I should go back outside and clear my head!.....NOT!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of my WISH friends. In 2 weeks, we'll be at our family celebratory dinner! My training has basically been non-existant this week as we were swamped at work, huge snowstorm, and of course all of the final preparations for Christmas :charac2: I've decided after talking to Debbie that I am not about to attempt my final 8 mile trek outside. I know my feet would freeze, and I'm not about to attempt to do it in my boots, because I think that might just mess up my feet. Since we're going away tomorrow afternoon, I have resolved myself to getting up early and doing a 2 hour "mall walk" -- of course the way it's been snowing, I'll probably be crosstraining prior to that by shoveling my driveway ;) And then it's back to work for Tues/Wed/Thurs and I foresee some extra hours needing to be put in there. Not sure when I'm going to actually get packed for this trip!

Had a wonderful family Christmas yesterday. We had my FIL and DH's siblings and their kids in the morning for breakfast and presents and then my entire family (20 people in total) for supper and waaayyy too many presents yesterday afternoon/evening. I'm very lucky because the only thing I was responsible for food-wise for supper was to put the turkey in the oven, and take the home-baking my Mom sent out of the freezer. Everyone else brought absolutely everything else. It was a great family day, and after supper, Debbie/Nancy/Susan/our Mom/myself sat down and figured out our "theme parks game plan" for Marathon weekend! :) Susan bought all of us girls Disney tote bags that say "2005 Disney Dreams" on it -- how totally appropriate!

Just remember, life is very busy right now, and whether your training is going well, or not well due to circumstances, these last 2 weeks will not be the deciding factor in this race. It's what you've done over the past year that is the key! A year ago I couldn't have walked 13 miles straight even in a lot more time!

Peace and blessings to all for a safe and injury free next 2 weeks!

say -

first, WHEW - made it through the holidays - always do - this year had some extra time as no way I could make it to work on Thursday (oh too bad an extra day off for me) (did that 8 miler on the tmill) tho it did make a big change in plans for us with that big "dump" of snow in the midwest - okay - we had the white Christmas - now bring on the sun! Still made it to Molli's enjoyed a full day of "jammies" only on Christmas day - a brief shopping spree this AM to replenish for next year (wrap, gift bags, etc). Then back home to a broken water pipe - DH opened car door and let out an "OH NO" and by then, I saw a river of water coming from under the garage door. But, I am so thankful that it was the garage only - I had this fear I would open the door to theh house and step into water - nope - didn't happen - so I sent up a mighty Thank you - thank you - and truly feel so blessed that it was just the garage! (Pipe fixed and we have water, so life continues on......)

Secondly, you guys are just the best bunch of friends/marathon trainees/folks around!!! - I have read your posts - laughed a bit, tensed-up a bit, shook my head a bit, offered my advice (well in my mind I did), and said prayers for you too. Whoever thought that a chat board could really and truly make "names" become friends - can't wait for the event so that we can just make it "hands on"

Geetey - I did go look at the 15 day weather today and 50's is shorts and short sleeves for me - what you other guys thinking?

Karebear - thanks for asking - my 8 miler did go so much better than the 11 miler - I do have one more massage scheduled - so I am thinking this is doable :earboy2: I don't mind saying I am nervous - but I don't think I am any different than the rest of you - so I am just hearing Dr. Phil saying - only good things in (thoughts) so that is the only recall you have - and I am focusing on the Bingham t hought - that getting to the start line is a VICTORY!

Okay - here's my one tidbit of advice to those you have back spasms - several years ago I had herniated disks and I would take advil/motrin only when I needed it (like one or 2 here and there - my dr. explained that it was much better to get on advil/motrin (whatever works for you) and stay on it until the inflamation was gone, because each time that you take it, it takes your body a little longer for it to become effective as a pain reliever (tylenol generally is not the drug here, but advil family) . So just my 2 cents, take it faithfully for a few days and let it really work to reduce inflamation. I hope this is making sense (and of course there is a disclaimer here that I am not practicing medicine, just passing along the words of wisdom of my doc). I still have some periodic back pain and I use a muscle relaxer when I know I am on the edge. I plan to have it with me and take it after the event to help my "hammies" behave - so I can enjoy the parks too!!

Okay - I've rambled long enough and DH is thinking we might need some dinner - I am thinking food - had enough of that for the last few days - tomorrow is the time I am FOCUSING on the event - here's my cyber high 5 to all of you that are all ready in the mode and to all of you who are claiming Monday as the day to claim - YIKES - there just "ain't" that much time left - let's do it!!!!!!!

Hugs - good week to everyone and ONLY positive thoughts - wooohooo we can do it!!!

BTW - ohMom, Evansmom, Carol (Evansmom's mom - an official cheerleader) and I - we all have our nametags ready and just waiting to wear them !!!

Good Sunday Evening Everyone!!

I too didn't get too much walking in this week. Today was another cross-training day...shopping for two hours and then a half hour of shovelling snow. I was planning on doing my long walk tonight on the treadmill but I've been putting stuff away, etc and have decided that I will tackle that task tomorrow morning. My DH gave me a DVD/TV combo for Christmas that I'm going to put in the basement so that when I'm walking on the treadmill I can watch a movie and not get really bored.

We had an awesome Christmas and now I've got to figure out what I need to take to Florida. Since I'm driving down I have a bit more planning to do. I must find the glow in the dark necklaces and put them with my t-shirts, etc.

My DH gave me a running box for Christmas which included running gloves, blister cushions, power gels, blistex pro relief (it's lip balm with an analgesic..which I needed after last weekend's very cold walk), bandages, sportslick and a note which read as follows: "I know you have worked very hard to get to this point. But you have remained focused on the goal and for that I am so proud. I know you can do it and I will be with you every step of the way!! (even though he'll be stuck at home with the kids) And no matter what happens you will always have won the Donald medal in my heart!!

Wasn't that a great gift. I think we can all listen to his words. We have been committed and the final result doesn't really matter because we are successful in the trying.

Now, I think I've got enough motivation to get through the next week.

Have a great evening and carry the Christmas spirit with you for as long as you can.

That is such a great note! I decided to skip the outdoor walk today. We had rain and snow last week followed by a deep freeze - the sidewalks and side streets are a real mess. I walked home the other day and fell twice. I don't want to do that again. So - today it was WATP 2 miles. Not sure what the game plan is for the rest of the week. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

The registration for '06 will open in the spring...and yes, if fills up pretty quickly...This year it was completely full and closed by early August.

I know this is last week's thread but since my last workout was Sunday night, that is where I am posting. :)

Christmas was wonderful here... first time in 7 years we spent the actual day with family. Typically we are piling into the car the day after Christmas to drive 6-9 hours to get to our families. 20 people... lots of food... lots of fun... definitely a full house.

Sunday is my injection day and I have to walk for an hour afterwards, but I decided to 'go for it' and did 11 miles of WATP. I used the 4 mile Super Challenge - did that twice and then rewound and did the final 3 miles for the third time. I know it isn't the same as walking on the treadmill or outside but with my treadmill out of commission and the weather too cold for my prednisone (only 2 more days of that!), this was the best option I had. I finished 24 ounces of water, 12 ounces of Powerade and felt strong at the end, except for the leg lifts. (The leg that gets the shot is always weaker several hours following.)

To all of the WISHers, I am SO proud of everyone! The Penguin is right.... the VICTORY is getting to the Start Line! Without the support and encouragement of each and every one of you, I don't know that I would be ready for this, so THANK YOU!!!!
