As I recall they have a government rate that is the lowest rate to be found. Even lower than priceline! And it looks like a nice place.

Yes the Swan & Dolphin has government discounts. The rate applies to government employee on the federal, state and city level. The rate is $129 per night for a standard room and of course they are on Disney in the best location possible.
It sounds like you above posters qualify!!

There is also a "TEACH" discount for those who "teach".

Go to the resort board and look for the Swan/Dolphin FAQ by GLO. It has a list of the available dates way down on the bottom. It also has the best number to call when booking, and its filled with tons of info and pictures!!Enjoy ;)

It's not at the level of the rates we were getting from Priceline, but the SwanDolphin does offer extremely decent nightly rates for government employees. $129 per night - for the same rate you'd get for the moderates, you can stay at a deluxe hotel in the Epcot area, with wonderful transportation to the parks (the bus stops are the closest to the entrance, and the boat ride to MGM and Epcot is a slow, leisurely pleasure). You will need to show some sort of government ID at checkin for this rate.

Below is a link to the SwanDolphin FAQ that should help with any and all other questions:

Any more questions? Feel free to ask away! :)

It's interesting to see this topic....I called yesterday after seeing the "government employee" rate was offered...agent who answered told me it was only applicable to those in the armed services (I thought that was Shades of Green)...I told her DH was a retired sergeant from a large law enforcement agency -- "Nope, doesn't count"...maybe I should try again?? We're already reserved for $175/night in March....

Where did you call? It's true that Disney owned resorts do not have the government rate. The only option there is Shades of Green, which is available only to military or DOD employees. If you call Swan/Dolphin resorts directly, there is a government rate of 129.00.
Read Glos FAQ, as linked in Cookies post, for the available dates, phone number, etc.

Poohlovr....

I did call the Swan/Dolphin 800 number (I have it memorized by now)...the gal who answered -- Carmen?? -- told me that it was only for members of the military...I hadn't even gotten so far as to give her the dates, but we are going during a discount time listed on Glo's FAQs...I will try again tomorrow perhaps...it's certainly worth $50/day to keep trying until I get someone who'll give me that rate if it is in fact for ALL government employees...and a large sheriff's department used to qualify as government!! :)

Yes, call again! They are not for military! you need to call the hotel directly. If you get that again ask to speak with a manager, and explain what you want and how you qualify!

Forgot to mention that gov. employees and teachers of other countries also qualify for the discount!

Just remember that you need proof, and that you can only get that rate by calling the resorts direct, not CRO! ;)

I don't know if you saw my other post re: this topic...I called a few days ago and was told that since my husband is a retired cop (disability retirement from a large sheriff's department), that he did not qualify for gov't discount...he has to be 'active', not retired....

Do you have some way of confirming that fact that perhaps we don't?!?

My mom is also out of the Post Office due to a disability/retirement. Would love to know if she qualifies! That $129 rate is very attractive!

Just an FYI. I called the hotel directly and was told that the government rate is $129, but they only offer based on hotel occupancy. They said that if they have low occupancy you can get that rate, otherwise forget it. I tried to get it for Feb. 24 and they said they are at too high an occupancy level to offer that rate.

Sarah:

I don't believe that was the problem for me...I inquired about eligibility before we had even gotten around to dates...she just told me that non-active, or retired, gov't employees did not qualify for that rate...they had to be "active"...I would've understood being unable to offer due to high bookings...but I just hate thinking that this lower rate 'could' be available and I'm not allowed to take advantage!! :( :( :(
