I find it funny, really I do! I think we've visited this question before but it just tickles me. Last night an older friend of mine came up to me and complimented me on my weight loss. I thanked her but could tell she had more on her mind. Then she proceeds to tell me that she's worried that I'll get too thin and that she doesn't want me starving myself. What?! Let me give you guys a typical meal for me for a day: Breakfast consists of 2 eggs, breakfast meat, a 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal or 2 slices of whole wheat toast; snacks: twice a day, usually fruit, yogurt, string cheese or nuts; lunch: tuna salad, grilled chicken salad or a big bowl of low carb soup with whole wheat crackers and dinner: lean meat, veggie or salad and long grain converted rice with dessert. Does that sound like someone that is going to pass out from starvation?

I know she meant well but ladies and gents I am 190 pounds and stand 5'1". There is no way and no how I could be classified as "skinny". Skinnier than I was when I wore a size 26, yes. But not skinny and about to pass out. I'm not angry at her. I know she meant well. When she asked me had I reached my goal, I truthfully told her no but that I was "close". What I didn't tell her was that I wanted (no needed) to lose at least 35-45 more pounds! I think she would have had me committed if I told her that!

Aren't people's perceptions of us funny sometimes?

Hi Lisa,

It gets worse the closer you get to goal. Don't let people bother you. What matters is how you think you look and feel. I wouldn't say that if you were starving yourself or doing unhealthy things to get that way. You don't look in a mirror and think you should be 90 pounds.

I had a girl at work who after I gained 10lbs after reaching goal in the summer who proceeded to say well I didn't think you looked good that way? (after I told her I gained 10lbs) Hello, she is taller than me and weighs less than me at goal? HELLLO??

When your short like we are our goal weights are going to be a lot less than the ones who are taller. The numbers sound scary to those who are taller. It all evens out though. There is a girl at work who's goal weight is in the 180's. She is very tall and I still heard a few people say she is getting too thin. I think when people see drastic losses it's noticable and people think your starving yourself to loose that much weight. One thing is for sure, I eat healthier and MORE actual food (cut way down on junk) when I am loosing or maintaining than when I'm not.

The main thing is we are all different. No too people are going to look the same at a certain weight than anyone else. It depends on genetics, bone structure, body fat structure etc. I know that some people got scared when they heard I was wearing size 4 pants. Well even gaining 20 lbs I can still wear most of those size 4's. It's just a matter of where your fat deposits. Mine does tend to be around the belly, but my ankles, wrists etc are super skinny. Heck my ring size is a size 4. That doesn't mean that I should stop where I am at. All this fat is unhealthy. I even talked to my doctor about (both OBGYN & Gen Pract.) and both agree that I could easily go to 110. Where I think I want to be is around 125. I looked good in the 130's but still had that big buldge of belly fat to loose. I think when I get to my goal (if I can maintain it this time) that I need to continue exercise, add more food and widdle the middle by exercising and gaining more muscle and loosing more fat.

I also think some people are afraid that you will make them look fat and it touches on insecurities they may have.

You go girl, you have done such a fantastic job. Those that say things are just jealous and scared!

Yes! I actually think people get used to seeing us fat and then when we lose a good bit of weight, they think we look too thin even though we are FAR from our ideal weight. I have another 22 lbs to lose and people tell me all of the time that I look good the way I am and I don't need to lose any more. Hello people!!! I still wear a size 12. I'm 5'5" and weigh 157.

I agree! I have people at work saying I'm getting too skinny and "are you going to lose more weight????" Even my office mate says things like that and she is much closer to goal than I am! But I think its the difference in us that has them startled/worried.

I also eat far more healthy food than I used to and way less junk food. For the record I am 5'6", 178 lbs, wearing a size 12. Did I just say that????? A size 12! Last year I was having trouble fitting into my size 22s!!!! But according to WW I still need to lose at least 30lbs to be at the top of my weight range!

 I thought it was just me. I get that and quite often, mostly from family. I eat like a pig still in my opinion, but it just goes to show how that for some of us, low-carb just works. My mom is constantly telling me to stop that crazy dieting, go get some real sugar and be normal like everyone else. I just ignore. I'm 4'11 shorter than most so weight really shows. I'm finally at the "governments" standard of weight. Technically speaking the low end for my height is 105 :earseek: I'm not trying to get that small, but I'm so happy where I am.

It is annoying sometimes that people with the best of intentions are just sooo into what you are doing.

My mom threatened to have me treated for anorexia when I was in high school--she took me to get weighed and said if I weighed less than 120, then off to the doctor I go...I weighed 135. People's perceptions are soooo funny sometimes. I get told all the time that I look great (sorry, not meant to be a brag)--but then if I say--well I could lose 10 - 15 more pounds..they're all like where am I going to lose it. Let's just say my butt hides my weight very very well--it's all hidden in my lower abs to my upper thighs. And as my husband says--I wear clothes appriately aka clothes that are flattering. Unfortunately--continued weight loss means other areas look really really skinny--but I can't help it. The day they come up with non-surgical target area fat lost--I'd be soooo all over it!

I actually have lost weight only through the SBD--but people think I have lost sooooo much weight since training--but it is all in inches. After I finish my marathon--I'm going back on the South Beach diet for 5 to 7 days--mostly to jumpstart weight loss again and to get rid of the cravings for the excess carbs that I required in training. I think doing a jump start would be the best way to get my diet back on track. But I probably will have to keep that a secret from most people who don't see what my tush looks like in a mirror. I hope to pick up weight training to help firm up the areas. I still jiggle when I wiggle :)

P.S. I don't think your diet sounds like you are starving. :) Sound very healthy.
