I've enjoyed a series by Debbie Macomber. There about a small town in Washington state, and each book focuses on one family, but lots a characters overlap--there is some mystery, a little romance, some comedy--very light, entertaining reading. The titles are property addresses: 204 Rosewood, 311 Pelican, etc. I have them in hard back, but think they're available in paper.

The Jan Karon Mitford series is wonderful...also Bill Bryson's book on walking the Appalachian trail...Nick Hornby's "How to Be Good" or "About a Boy". For something different "Bringing Down the House"...nonfiction and fascinating...Michael Korda's "Charmed Lives"...I've had that one on my bedside table for 20 years, never get tired of it...any of Torey Hayden's books about teaching in a special ed classroom...Debra Ginsberg's "Waiting" and "Raising Blaze", both wonderful...if you really can't decide it is hard to go wrong with an Oprah book...I re-read "The Good Earth" this month...loved it...other Oprah favorites are "The Reader" and "Midwives". For a perfect example of a tragedy read "The House of Sand and Fog"...excellent book, I didn't see the movie, my sister told me it was slanted towards one of the characters, totally ruined the story.
