OH MY GOSH !!!! WE'RE GETTING SO CLOSE!!!!!!!!

Welcome home CHeryl- pleas feel free to ask any DVC questions- I do what i can to convert all my friends to DVC! We want details ! DETAILS ! I SAY!!!! Please- tell us about your crusie.

Congrats to everyone this week. You have a ll done so great.... again! BUT I have not- I'm gonna try to start walking again tomorrow. I was supposed to start Saturday, but I've been pretty sick all weekend. Better to get through all the flu/sinus infection/just feeling crmby all around stuff now I guess. I'll let y'all know how I do tomorrow- hopefully I'll feel like I have some kind of energy to do this!

Is anyone else starting to FREAK OUT yet? <a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSYYYYYYYYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_6_1.gif' border=0></a>

6 more weeks!
Yup, I am starting to stress some. I know I've got it down time-wise, I'm just going to be nervous and getting more so as time draws near.

Everyone keep at it. We can do it!

Hi everyone! After over a week without my internet access at home, Susan-Ontario's DH came over and fixed it all up for me :love2: I just finished reading last weeks thread. Lily, you SO ROCK! And Lisa, WOW on that awesome time for your 1/2 marathon. I did find the same thing when we did the Niagara 1/2 ... trying to drink the water out of the cups made me almost choke on it sometimes. I had 2 bottles with me for about the first 8 miles, and that was really heavy. So I think I'll do the one bottle thing, and fill 'er up at the water stations.

I did not get the appropriate amount of training in this week, but then I knew I wouldn't. For those that are injured, take it easy ... you need to recover fully before you do too much training.

Cheryl ... welcome back from your cruise!

Happy Training week, everyone!

Good Sunday Evening Everyone,

I'm sending pixie dust and prayers to all my fellow trainees for good health, easy training and a great week!!!

Today was a rest day but this week I'm really back into it full time. Like Debbie said we did 5 miles yesterday in 80 minutes. I was very pleased. My foot hurt a bit today and I think it was because my shoes weren't tied up tight enough.

Cheryl--you'll love DVC. When we bought we did the resale verses Saratoga and eventually bought at Saratoga. PM me if you have any questions.

The only stress I'm feeling right now is how my DH is going to make out with my clingy 3 yr old DD while I'm away. Fortunately my niece is going to come and spend the weekend to give him a bit of a break. He's not used to dealing with her on a continuous basis.

Have a super week everyone!!

I love the start of a new week.....haven't wrecked my eating or exercising schedule yet! Ah, a clean slate. However, I seem to be out of groceries again....always dangerous. Perhaps if I commit to a Subway wrap for lunch, I won't wander into a sitdown restaurant and order something naughty.....however did those french fries get on my plate??? AH, and I should WALK to Subway, it's not too far to do on my lunch hour and it's going to be in the 50's tomorrow, so I won't get hot on the walk. What a brilliant idea.....see what happens when you just show up on the WISH thread?

Oh, anyone staying at POP, please check in here:
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?p=7005983#post7005983

Ooops, getting late time to hit the hay....60 MIN walk tomorrow morning!

I have been MIA for a long time. Life has just been very busy and I have been neglecting myself. I am really worried now that I will not be able to finish the 1/2. I have put back on my weight and I haven't started any training yet and I can't remember the last time I was on the treadmill. Do you think it is possible to start working up my strength now or is it too late? I don't want to get started on that day and find I can only go a mile. Any advice on how to start training at such a late date or should I just chalk it up to lesson learned and not even worry about trying? Thanks for your help.

Tammy- I say try to do what you can do. There are plenty of us that are doubting what we can do as this half marathon draws closer. Just last week, there were a couple of posts that sounded just like yours! If you get busy and really focus, you might be able to do it. You've already paid the registration fee- you may as well do what you can. Even if you don't finish, at least you can start knowng that you've done everything you can do to start it!

I just want to make sure that everyone here saw Dawn's generous offer to make lime green scarves for us to wear on marathon morning. She has enough fabric left for 9 more, so if you haven't signed up for one, make sure you do!!

Tammy - don't give up! There's still time to get ready for the 1/2. I'm not sure that I'll be able to finish in time either, but the real victory is in the attempt! A year ago I would never have thought it was possible, but now I know I at least have a chance at finishing.

I had a less than stellar training week last week. However, the rest seems to have done my left knee and hip a world of good. This week I'm going to get back in the groove, but slowly. Today, Wed., Thurs., and Fri. I'm going to mall walk for 45 minutes each day (I have a doctors appt. on Tuesday...I'll try to get in some cross training on th exercise bike). Saturday I'll do a "long" walk of about 5 miles. The following week I'll get back on track with a longer walk.

Hello one and all!
Wow - it's weird getting used to the new board format.
To answer your question, Karen, YES! I AM FREAKING OUT!!! I am still not confident in my ability to maintain the pace needed. My short walks don't seem to be boosting my long walk times, but I am going to keep at it. Today is my scheduled day of rest -- good thing since it is pouring cats and dogs here.
I went to Target and got some of their knock off coolmax clothing. I even found some pieces on clearance! :jumping4: (I love a bargain!) I will be trying those out this week. I really need to get my clothing/fanny pack items perfected. I am afraid of overdressing and being too hot.

:cheer2: Here's to a good week! :cheer2:

I am off to check in on the POP thread! :cool1:

Hi all--just checking in!!!

Take the training slow--you still have a month and a half--and the most your longest walk/run needs to be is about 8 to 10 miles..if you can keep pace with that, you should be fine for the half on the 9th. IF anyone who is having training problems can even join a gym and get on the elliptical or swim laps to keep up your cardio--that will go a long way while you are letting your body heal. We have one girl who severely injured her foot while riding her horse--she has been keeping up on the elliptical (praise to her--she rides that thing for 2 and a half hours :earseek: ). She is still heading towards doing it--though she is still having some issues--but she has been able to train without setting one foot on the ground.

They say not to increase your total weekly mileage by more than 10% a week during training. So if you are going to try for really training for the half--I would set yourself up with a schedule and try to stick to it. If your body is really telling you that you can't do a day--then certainly don't do it. The times I have listened to my body, it has been very beneficial! 6 weeks is tough--but you can do it!! Remember this--they don't start the sweeper time until the last person crosses the finish line--so try to be towards the front of your corral--that should buy you a couple of minutes to be ahead of the sweeper.

:cloud9: :cloud9:
A local Massage Place had a one day sale--half off gift certificates--I bought 4 for $110 to include 3 1-hour massages and 1 90-minute massage. Regular price $220--I am a very happy camper. I will use the 90-minute this week as I have been too long without and am having lots of problems (they always go away when running--very odd, but that is just how my body has been functioning for 10 years--workouts are GOOD things). And I got to try before I bought as well--they were invited to the Space Coast Marathon yesterday--so I got to enjoy a post-event massage right away...it is very good for getting that lactic acid loose so that you will eliminate it--Virtually NO SORENESS today--even after I was afraid b/c of the fear of overdoing it yesterday. While it was free at this event yesterday--from what I hear it isn't free at Disney--so I say definitely pocket a twenty or two and head to those massage tables post race. Or do what someone else did and book a Disney massage--your body will LOVE you!!!

I am very excited!!! Hubby agreed to the massages no questions asked (half off and a lifetime of muscle issues--he happily agreed so I'd quit bugging him for massages :) ). I wish I could have bought more! Now all I have to do is coordinate with my chiropractor and I will have a very happy body for my 16 mile run this weekend (that almost sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it :scratchin )?

Posting this as an FYI that I submitted on another thread to explain the finishing time/pace requirements at Disney--hopes this helps--REMEMBER--"Just keep swimming, swimming...Just keep swimming, swim swim swim" (I was shouting this yesterday during the half--I am a big dork!!!). And the 15 minutes to cross the start line--that is for the runners in the mid-corrals--it will take a while for the back of the pack to cross--my TIP--go to the front of your corral!! 16 minute pace calculates to a 3 h 29.6 minute race time--so it is 3 and a half hours.

I think 3:30 is the maximum (official) time allowed to finish in. I may not make that time, but I can't imagine they'd pick me up if I want to continue! I checked the official stats for the half alst year and they were recording people atht had 17:18 minute miles. According to WDW- you have to do a 16 minute mile- so I think there may be some leeway- not a lot, but some.

They don't start the sweeper clock until the last person crosses the finish line--it can take a solid 15 minutes at least for some to cross the start line--so it wouldn't be fair of course to start the clock right away. When that last person crosses, the time starts. That explains the fudge factor on some people's pacing--I think anywhere between 16 and 18--you should be good! Just make sure you do get to the front of your corral--that will be you some extra precious seconds on your pace. The 16 minute/3 hour 30 minute pace--will be what that last person has to achieve before being picked up. If anyone isn't meeting this pace at the 10K point, I believe (so half of the half)--then he/she gets picked up. Make sense? I should post this on our thread--so others can see.

And yes they do pick people up regardless if you want to finish or not. One of our team in training ladies--just missed the van--they let her pass the checkpoint (she had a prosthesis and the official was watching the clock--our coaches were running with her--they always keep track of us :)). As soon as she passed--the van pulled into the road and blocked any other runners (they weren't on her tail--so it wasn't like that ;) ). No runners were allowed past that point (or walkers!). Into the van/bus they had to go to be transported to the finish :(

Today, for the first time in 6 days, I walked 2 miles. And guess what??? I didn't have any pain! No shin splint pain- it's amazing to me! I did my walk pretty slow though- 20 minute mile walks.

Lisa- you have me scared that I will be picked up by the sweeper now! <a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSYYYYYYYYUS' target='_blank'><imgsrc='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_7.gif' border=0></a>

I liked it a lot better when I thought I had some kind of chance. :guilty: Now, I feel like I'm doomed. But I'm still gonna try to beat the time I need to so I can finish.

Karen, don't worry. If we get picked up by the sweeper truck we'll just make a party of it. :cool1:

I went out tonight with my DS and did 2.4 miles in 40 minutes. Not very fast but it was a bit cool and that set my asthma off. The time did go by fast because my son just yakked the entire time. He is like a walking encyclopedia.

Have super night everyone!!

It is way TOO COLD here. I want to be back in the warmth of the cruise!!! When I did my 55 min walk late this afternoon it was only 35 not 80 like last week when I was walking on the Magic. OK I'll stop whining now. I didn't get a chance to drive the course I walked today but I felt like I was moving prettyu fast so I think my time is still doing OK. I am gettting scared now that we are at 6 weeks YIKES how can it be coming so fast! This is going to be a hard time to stick to the training for me because of all the hecticness of the upcoming holidays but maybe I'll scale down a little on the decorating this year and every week I am goingt o try and "schedule" my walks and crosstraining in so that I keep up with this. I have also found that I am spending too much time on the DVC board these last 2 days trying to learn as much about that to help us make our decision on that issue. These boards are just way too addictive for me. Exercise first, DIS boards second and everything else is falling to the wayside, oh well.

Keep moving everyone! WE CAN AND WILL DO THIS!

Hey everyone,
I am totally freaking out! I KNOW I can walk 13 miles, I just don't know that I can do it quickly.

I have been going to the gym but lately I've been so tired, I haven't felt much like going. The sun goes away and my energy level falls off so much.

Still, can't wait - it should be a blast! I'm gonna put my best foot forward!

It looks as if we have some very determined people here. I am glad to hear it! Everyone is trying to do their best. Do what you can and don't press beyond your limits, just press a bit.

Went to the gym with DH today. Had an OK workout. I did a 25 min recumbant warmup. Then I jumped on the cross trainer/eliptical for 25 min did 2 miles on that. Then did machine circuit and a stretch cool down.

Everyone keep on keepin' on. It is coming together and keep working at it. We can do this!

Hi everyone. This cold, dark weather is really depressing. I got home from work and decided I would do an hour walk before supper. It was still dark, but there were lots of people out BBQ'ing, and lots of traffic coming home from work. I did 4.10 miles in 60 minutes, so I'm pretty happy about it. And I felt good about making the time I needed for this.

Please do not, anyone, stress about the sweeper truck. I can tell you that I never thought I was doing better than a 15 minute mile, and that was me "going all out". I measured using my pedometer, as well as driving the course after. And on race day, we managed a 14 minute mile for about the first 9 miles, and then we actually slowed it up since we knew we would easily make the 3 hrs and 15 min mark. I don't know if my measuring was off all the time (I suspect so because my stride is longer than I have put into my pedometer), or if just the excitement of the race and the people cheering us on caused us to just go faster :moped: I have read on other posts that they do not sweep you if you've made it into MK in the allotted time (and that's the time of the last person to cross the start line, as Lisa has explained). And if you think about it, what's the point of sweeping you if you've made it through MK ... you're not in anyone's way between there and the finish line so I just cannot see Disney doing that to people that have made it that far. I'm very happy that I won't have near the nerves that I would have if we hadn't done the Niagara one. I know some of what to expect now (although waaaayyyy more people in Disney -- there were no start corrals for the start of the walking 1/2), so I think I'll be able to relax and just enjoy. My biggest stress is my fear of getting injured such that I can't even start the race. If something happens during the race, that's just bad luck and I'll be very :D to see the sweeper truck come along.

It's gonna be GREAT ! I wish I could take away some of the nervousness people are feeling. We're all going to be there for each other ... swept or not, we're all winners because we had the courage to even sign up for this thing! How many of us hesitated before we hit "send" on the registration. Didn't we all feel "what the heck am I doing?" And look at how far we've all come in the past 11 months. You are all "the wind beneath my wings" and I can't wait to meet everyone in less than 6 weeks!

Hugs to all ... LYMI

No running/walking for me today. It snowed! Didn't settle but there was snowflakes amongst the rain. For those on the east coast it wouldn't amount to anything, but for a transplanted aussie living in Vancouver it was cold! While I am prepared for a cold morning start to the half in January, I did not have the appropriate gear to run in the snow. I will try again tomorrow.

For anyone who is doubting they can finish in the alloted time, remember this...in October 2003 I ran/walked my first ever 1/2 marathon. My training time was 3&1/2 hours which was aiming for a 16 min mile. But about 1/2 way through the course other runners/walkers were cheering each other on, people on the streets were cheering , and the volunteers were cheering. That did amazing things for me, and my chip time ended up being 3 hours 19 mins, a 15 min mile - a minute faster per mile than I had ran/walked in training.

Sometimes the atmosphere will be added the boost to get you to the end!

Ahhh - I finally got my marathon package today - run/walker #22657.

And I got the confirmations and receipt of payments for our hotels - POP/Beach Club/Wilderness Lodge.

I booked the Segway tour, and made a PS for Le Cellier.

And while we were in Seattle on the weekend I got some Disney Dollars.

It's beginning to seem alot like Disney World!

I didn't mean to scare you Karen!!!!!
Now I feel bad!!!! I am very very sorry!

I just wanted you to be informed...it is better easy to take it easy on your legs--especially since you haven't been out in a week or so and have just recovered by a cold.

Okay, maybe I will just stop talking marathon talk now and officially resign from the thread. Good luck everyone, I was only trying to be helpful.

You will do NO such thing, my friend! You have provided us with lots of great info. We NEED each other ... we couldn't have come this far without the help and support we've received from our Dis-WISH friends. And this is exactly where we need to post our fears, because for everything that one person is feeling, there are another 20 out there feeling the same thing.

Sorry, no resignations allowed :grouphug:

Lisa loves Pooh....don't you go anywhere young lady! We need you!

And speaking of needing each other, the Family Reunion area at the end of the race will have colored tents arranged alphabetically with large signs. Shall we all rally at the W's?? What do you think? Will your friends and family agree to having a new last name, the WISHWALKERS, for the day?

I'm going to try and find out more about the massages that Disney will have at the race. The cost, length of time, etc. I know someone in massage school who mentioned 'working the marathon' so I'll try and get some details from him.

I simply MUST book my airlines today!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone :) Today is my day off - yesterday I did 40 mins cross-training with 30 min QuickFix stability ball and 10 min yoga. I was really looking forward to a day off today to get things done for the holidays around my house!

Do we have a WISH logo for our shirts yet? i ordered a white wicking shirt am awaiting it's arrival

great job everyone -- keep it going! Just think how much BETTER we are going to feel by maintaining our activity and healthy eating through the holidays!

Lisa- No need to resign! I know that your intentions were only to give a good warning and not to make anyone feel bad. I was just expressing my fear. I probably personalized it just a little too much. I'm sorry if I made you feel bad. We do need you here! You have provided us with some really valuable info- so please, keep on posting!

Jackie- I like your idea of meeting at the "W" tent. I know my family won't mind going there at all. What does everyone else think? And , YES, I think you'd better be buying those plane tickets soon! When you get that info on massages, would you kindly pass it on? I'd appreciate it.

Rachael- It sounds like you're all ready to go. I'm kinda half way there. After we do the marathon, we are staying for a week and then doing the cruise. I have nothing planned for the cruise! I feel pretty much paralyzed on making decisions for it. I just don;t get it! I can usually makes decisions pretty quickly when it comes to vacations! But this has been hard!

Mom- Meme has made some really cute logo's for the shirts. I'm not sure if they are completely finished- but I expect they're pretty close to being finished if they're not! I'm sure she'll post them when she's done.

Baileymouse- it's pretty obvious that you are not the only one freaking out! You're in good company! I guess all we can do is what you suggested- and that is put our best foot forward and run the race. We'll just keep cheering each other on.

Ya know- I just had a thought! Can they stop you from walking on the roads to the parks, or through the parks if you use a ticket to get in? I THINK NOT!!! ohhhhhhh...... my devious thought processes begin! ;)

Lily- you're right... we are a pretty determined group of people! It sounds like you're workouts are right on schedule! Congrats to you on your ability to keep on keepin' on!

Mary-Liz- You're right too! I did hesitate before pushing that button- and for about 6 months before I actually registered had backed out of the idea of even doing this half marathon! No matter what happens- I know I have trained my buns off and worked harder then I have ever worked at anything, to do this marathon. The victory is in the journey. I have learned so much about myself in this process. How can anyone be sad if they don't finish if they look at the broader picture?

Uh oh--another item for the fanny pack--PARK TICKETS!!! ;)

Okay, I won't resign--I am so bad on the motivating part--that I just try to stick to the factual information. I know everyone wants so badly to finish. Now I don't think they will handcuff you and throw you in the van :space: (no van smiley--so this was the next best thing ;) ). And I had another tip for today and in my sulking--I forgot what it was :(. So, I'll check back in later when I remember it.

Just keep swimming!!!!

What a great thread. I really needed to see all this support today. I am freaking out about the marathon--even thinking about not starting, but after reading all this--I HAVE TO DO IT!!!

Lisa, you crazy woman! If you think for one second we are going to let you get away from us, you are Goofy! :earboy2: We need all of these tips you are giving us!! By stating the facts now, you are giving us the info to change what we need to and to prepare even better. (still need to put safety pins on my packing list.. ) You may be run/walking with Team In Training, but you are a WISH Walker too! :grouphug:

You are all making me regret not extending our trip a day or two longer. My sister and I are basically 'outta there' on Monday. :( Rats.

Anyone planning on writing their name on their shirt? I have read that having your first name on the front of your shirt is a good idea. It allows the people cheering to shout out your name as you go by. I think I will need that boost!

Molli, have you heard any other news about the park tickets? Jackie, did you purchase the convention tickets? That is one item I really want to cross off my list! We definitely want to visit the parks and that 2 or 3 day hopper would be the most we want to go. X that... the most our legs can afford for us to go. ;)

It is pouring rain here today. :umbrella: Bleck It is supposed to turn to snow this afternoon/evening so I guess I need to just GO out into the mess and get my 50 minutes in. If I don't, those 8 miles on Thursday are going to feel extra long!

I shall report back later.

LOL - I like the idea of the "W" tent 'cause that's what my last name starts with! And since our maiden name was "Whittington", we (the 4 sisters) had already decided that would be the tent to meet up with our family members! And now it will be our WISH family there too ! :cool1:

:grouphug: to all who are feeling a little "unsure" right now. Just remember, we're going to be in the happiest place on earth, with some wonderful friends that have seen us through the trials and tribulations of training for the past year. I don't think it gets any better than that, my friends!

I should change my user name to LIG--Lisa is Goofy :upsidedow

I remembered my tip topic, but will have to check my files--I have some speed drill tips from our local running club--that may be just what you ladies need--perhaps on your cross training days...they are designed to boost your overall pace...basically, you do shorter training days at quicker than usual paces...

I'll locate it and post what I can. Now the tips are from a running club, but the principles should be the same for you walkers!

I'll have to e-mail my picture to someone--after you have celebrated at the family tent--you can all root for me when you see me cross the finish line at about the 5 hour mark! I'll be in purple shorts--a purple racing Team in Training singlet--white tech shirt on or tied around my waist--depends on how I feel. I'll give you guys my racing number too! Perhaps tie a lime green ribbon in my hair....hmmmm...now I gotta start thinking! (team in training colors are purple and green--but I can get away with lime green accents!).

One more add-on--my pace at the race this weekend was almost 2 minutes faster than my regular pacing--b/c I was running with someone I don't usually do--if you gals hook up before the race, the slower ones will feel naturally inclined to try to keep up--and the faster ones will sometimes naturally slow a little bit so that the slower ones can keep up--but fast enough to PUSH PUSH PUSH your way through! Try your best, YOU CAN DO IT!

Again, some more great tips. I didn't get on the TM today because our homeschool group was meeting to practice for the Presidential Fitness challenge. I ran with DD during her mile. I have to say that we didn't do it in a very fast time, but hey it is a start from nothing. I am getting on the treadmill in the morning though because we have no physical activity planned for tomorrow. I am so glad to be back on the boards.

:guilty: Okay, I am back to report in. I didn't go walk outside.

I did it inside instead! :jumping4: I hate that blasted treadmill. HATE it!! But I got my hard 50 minutes in, despite having to hold on to the railing. Lisa, I was working it like you suggested... walk at one pace for 4 minutes, punch it up for 1 minute, back to pace for 4 minutes, punch in up for 1 minute. Overall, as time went on, I was able to maintain the faster pace as my slow pace, and punch it up even more! Woo hoo! :cool1: I wish I didn't have to hold on to the rails, I think I could have gone even faster!! :earseek: My arms aren't long enough to hold on and stretch out my pace. Karen, I tried one of the Snickers Marathon bars as a boost before and during this walk. Can you say YUMMY?!?! It was the bigger one - Caramel Nut Crunch or something like that. Holy cow, that thing was good!!

I like the idea of a picture of ourselves. That may help people recognize each other. I feel my determination going back on the upswing!!! :jumping4:

LONG POST--
This is from the October 2004 Space Coast Runners Newsletter...I had to type it....

This is in regarding to speed training--for those worried about the sweeper--it is best to follow this--replace the word run with walk of course. I don't see why it wouldn't work for walking since you are trying to accomplish the same thing--get somewhere faster than you usually do.

Wherever it says run at 10K or 5K pace--this means to run (or walk :) ) these sessions at short distance pace which is faster than your long distance pace.

And, only do 1 speed training session per week--not during your long runs!!! Though the fartlek method (explained later) is very useful for getting yourself just a little farther ahead on race day!! And it makes the race feel less monotonous :)

EDITED TO ADD: Do not do speed workouts after New Year's weekend--this is your week to take relaxed walks--at your regular pace--my mileage that week will only be daily 2 mile runs and I'm doing the full--so for you walkers--NO SPEED work from 1/2/04 to race day :boat:

On with the article excerpt on Speed Work (it was originally from runningadvisor.com and published in the newsletter--though I coudln't find it on the website):

:moped:
Speed work consists of several runs of a mile or less at race pace or faster with slow recovery jogging between hard runs. Specific speed work training runs include intervals, fartleks, and tempo runs. Speed work is an important component of any advanced training program. The benefits include:

"*Training the physiological system to adapt to the additional stresses placed on it. The legs learn to turnover faster, the heart learns to work harder for a sustained period, the lungs learn to process more oxygen and the mind learns how to handle discomfort.
*Regenerating the body to run faster for a longer period after completing speed work.
*Maintaining a faster race pace.

Some final points regarding speed work:
*Complete one speed workout per week while building up for a race.
*To maintain motivation, focus on your race/personal goal while training.
*Do speed workouts with a group. Accountability and companionship do wonders for continued motivation.

Now that we’ve looked at speed work basics, lets take a look at some specific speed workouts.

INTERVALS
Interval workouts are made up of a set of short, faster paced runs over fixed distances for 220 yards to one mile, interceded with periods of light recovery jogging. Although there are many variations of intervals, the three basic types are:
1. Repeats—the distance of the repeating running segment does not change (ex: four 440 yard repeats with a 220 yard recovery jog in between each).
2. Pyramids—the distance of repeating running segments peaks and then returns to the beginning distance (ex: repeats of 220 yards, 440 yards, and up to 1 mile before returning to 440 yards and then 220 yards).
3. Ladders—the distance of the repeating running segments either steadily increases or decreases (ex: 220 yards, 440, 880, up to 1760 yards or run in the reverse order of 1760 yards down to 220 yards).

Looking to improve your speed in a certain distance? The table below should help you pick the interval you need to run.
Distance Interval
5K 220s or 440s
10K and under 880s
10K to Marathon One Mile

Regardless of the type of interval training workout you do, the long term goal is to improve speed on distances ranging from one mile up to marathons.

Some final interval training tips:
*Interval workouts are typically run on a track due to the ease of running predefined distances.
*Pacing for interval training should be determined in short distance races or runs such as a 5K. Use your calculated pace information to design appropriate speed workouts.
*Remember to do a recovery jog following your repeats. The distance should be half of your interval distance or more depending on whether you are a beginner or have some interval training experience.

FARTLEKS (editorial note—this one is the most fun to do and would work well for walkers, I think!)

Sounds like an intestinal order, doesn’t it? Actually, fartlek is Swedish for speed play. Fartleks are an unstructured, fun way to introduce speed training into your workout and consists of bursts of speed in the midst of your training run. There are a variety of ways in which to do fartleks and they can be run almost anywhere.

The advantages of fartlek training include:
*Training the body to run anaerobically (meaning without oxygen)
*Preparing your legs to absorb and feel a variety of paces.
*Enhancing your awareness of your ability to maintain varying paces at different distances.

To complete a fartlek workout you need to:
1. Warm up
2. Run at an easy training pace
3. Interject bursts of speed of differing distances throughout your run.
4. Speed should vary as well as bursts times. Bursts should be maintained from 15 seconds up to 2.5 to 3 minutes.
5. Recovery time should equal two thirds of your burst time but needs to be faster than an interval recovery jog.

Some final fartlek training tips:
*Pick a landmark and run your fartlek at a consistent pace until it is reached.
*Choosing a landmark to mark the end of a fartlek burst should continue until the end of the training run.

TEMPO RUNS
Tempo runs are the easiest of all the speed workouts to implement. No distances to keep up with and no split times to remember. Just run faster than your usual training pace and maintain a single sustained effort.

Tempo training is useful because it:
*Increases the body’s anaerobic limit in order to maintain a faster pace over a longer period of time.
*Boosts speed as the body becomes accustomed to running at or closet to its upper limit.

Steps to complete a tempo run are:
1. Complete your normal warm-up routine.
2. Once you have warmed up, pick up your pace to a level you can maintain for a predesignated time or distance. Your pace should be 80-85% of your maximum heart rate, if using a heart rate monitor, or your 10K pace.

HILL REPEATS
Hill repeats are basically what you believe they would be, fast-paced efforts to run up hills. They are considered strength training and are typically implemented following the completion of basic/mileage-building stage.

The benefits of hill repeats include:
*Combining cardiovascular (heart) and strength training (legs).
*Running uphill lessens the impact force of each footfall which significantly reduces the risk of an overuse injury.
*Enhancing mental toughness for upcoming workouts and races in hilly terrain.

Hill repeats are completed by:
1. Warming up appropriately.
2. Running the hill at a 5K effort pace. Maintain a good running form and don’t worry about sacrificing speed. Just keep the effort of a 5K pace.
3. After reaching the top of the hill, walk or lightly jog back down the hill and repeat the process.

CONCLUSION
Are all these special workouts necessary? Absolutely not. You are still a runner even if you decide to do the same distance at the same pace day after day. However, if you want to improve both your speed and endurance, doing at least some of the specialized training listed above will help you reach your goals. Stick to it and be the best you can be!"

:D The past two nights I have come home and immediately headed out for my walk. I think that that works better for me than eating and then trying to get the energy/gumption to actually do something. I did 60 minutes tonight, so that's just fine with me. It was cold, though, and the rain started while I was out. I'm surprised that it wasn't SNOW! :p

The W tent works well for me! Lisa, thanks for all your information. I like to go into things knowing as much as I can! Yep, you're going to hear us all freaking out with our fears and lack of confidence in ourselves. No speed work after New Year's? Long strolls? (I'm thinking that I'll need to walk off some of the holiday food! :earboy2:

Welcome back to those who we haven't seen for a while. Glad to have you back! :jumping4:

Hi everyone! I did a 30 minute stroll at lunch, which included a couple of purchases ;) and then I did Curves tonight for some x-training. I think I hurt my knee a bit last night on my hour walk, so I'm watching it carefully to not injure it further.

Have a good night.

Ok so I did it, I got back on the treadmill after about a 2 month rest!!!!!!!!thats right been a while
Instead of puching myself so hard however........My goal was to just do that mile in 16 minutes.
I was up to 5 miles in a hour but at this rate, I got 4.25 done and I wasnt really tired when I was done. I had to get off though...........family duties called.
anyway I have decided that one day SOON I will get on and actually see how far I can go!

Has anyone done this yet?

I had one other question ( this is my first ever marathon)
we all mention wearing a few layers of clothing right? Well arent we suppose to wear our number on the back of our shirt? SO if its pinned to the outer most layer does this mean as we shed we have to repin it?

Also, one more Q, for those of you who run/walk both the treadmill and outdoors, what are the differences (beside weather of course) I am only able to use the treadmill and can not get walks outside in my schedule, I am afraid that although, I may be able to finish a certain distance indoors, that outdoors will take a bigger toll on my body..

Just curious............
thanks all

Just BE CAREFUL--if you feel like you are going to fall or collapse--that would be too fast--but congratulations on the faster pace!!

Sorry, I should have clarified. I didn't have to hold on because I was going too fast, but because of some MS issues that have popped up. I am simply having difficulty walking straight. :confused3 Not a big deal when you have a nice walking path ;) but another issue when on the treadmill. :p Not to worry -- I have been to see my MS specialist and she has cleared me to continue to train. My gait is just 'off' a tad, and like I said, I veer to the left. I plan on having my sister walk on that side. She doesn't mind giving me the elbow to get back into my own space. :upsidedow

For me personally, I find walking outside MUCH easier to do. When doing one of my long walks, my pace is faster outdoors without feeling like I am exerting myself as much as on the treadmill.

Have you found a training schedule to follow? You don't want to do too much too soon and hurt yourself.

Check... http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm or http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/index.shtml for a training schedule that might help you. I am currently on Week 9 of my 14 week schedule. On the 12 week plans, you would be on week 7.

Meeting in the W's works for me....I was a Wilson before I married a Qualley. I should have stayed a Wilson -it's easier to spell and easier to read!

Lisa - send your race number, we will definately cheer you on! Nothing better than hearing your own name being yelled by strangers after 5 hours of running!

I forgot who posted about the massages, but I would be interested in hearing more when you get the information.

I got my first christmas present today! It arrived in the parcel post this afternoon from Australia. It's now sitting on the living room floor waiting for a tree to go under.

25 sleeps until Christmas morning! Which means about 40 sleeps until the 1/2 or full!

Molli, have you heard any other news about the park tickets? Jackie, did you purchase the convention tickets? That is one item I really want to cross off my list! We definitely want to visit the parks and that 2 or 3 day hopper would be the most we want to go. X that... the most our legs can afford for us to go. ;)

I will be addressing the ticket issue again this week. The number I have is for Disney Exhibitor Concierge 407-939-1717 open M-F 9a-5p. I think we all should call and harass them! I know before some human being told me we (marathoners) could get the 2 and 3 day hoppers.....I'm SURE I didn't dream it!

Finally got my airline reservations today. Got the flights I wanted and was able to apply the Sept credit to these tickets (from cancelled trip due to Frances) only had to pay an additional $26.

Now I have to select a Town Car service.....anyone have recommendations?
I also have to start a list of activities for M-W when my big sister comes to join me at Wilderness Lodge. Nice, sedate stuff, no wild rides. Figure we will HAVE to catch Off Kilter, British Invasion, Four for a Dollar, Beauty & The Beast, Festival of the Lion King, Illuminations. We'll be doing WISHES cruise Monday night (with some of you!). Hey.....where do we catch the boat???

OK, got to go pop in one of my exercise tapes.......catch you later and keep up the good work!

Thanks Gee......that is something to look forward to. I do hope the outdoors treat me better. I began a plan a few weeks back then dumped it, as well as everything else (eating plan) I have decided to just WING it. lol like alot of other things in my life. For example all of my college papers lol........ten pages due and I thought about them for 6 weeks but never actually got to them until the night before. :earseek:
Not that I don;t take this seriuosly but I always seem to amaze myself under pressure. Anyhow, as I mentioned, I didn;t do anything inparticular like I started out a while back, I was walking two minutes then running the rest. I stopped this because I had a feeling race day would come and I would just do what was comfortable. SO I decided to that now as well. When I was done (@4.25 I felt great, like I could do that 3 more times right then and there. I will try it to. As a matter of fact, tomorrow while baby is napping I may get 2 hours on the treadmill, I am going to see if I can double that. We'll say.
thanks for the suggestion and glad that hear that the pavement may be easier.

Renee, no need to do it all on the TM before our big day. You should be able to get in a longer walk or 2, but don't make the whole thing at this point. You could look up the schedule that was posted earlier up here and follow that. I think your idea of 2 hours if you can do that will work if you make sure to give yourself some off time after to recover.

W it is! Will look forward to meeting up with everyone. Is anyone going to go over to the Marathon after a bit to watch the others come in? I am maybe going to try.

Didn't do anything today. Recovery for me. We have a dinner obligation tomorrow. I may have to do that DREADED TM. Yuck. I hate that thing too.

I have been AWOL. My past two weeks have been beyond stressful and the last 3 days have been recovery. Not much exercise of any kind in there either.
Last night my DD had gymnastics from 6:30 to 9:00 so I went to my gym (that I pay for and haven't been using ( duh!) and used the curcuit and ellipticals for 120 minutes!! It felt so good to do that and to be done. I really miss working out and I forget how much. Tonight I walk/run. I'm back on track and reading Marathoning for mortals. I will be ready for the 1/2 even though I am terrified of it. My eating of course went out the window last week but I am back on track this week.
Hope everyone is is hanging in there and training well!!!

When I get time I wil read about the W stuff. Still looking for those dicounted hoppers. Wow they are expensive.

Thanks for all your support!!

I thought for those newbies to participating in events this tidbit of info might be helpful. The numbers need to go on the front in order that you can be photo-finished. Straight out of The Penguin book:

MARATHONING FOR MORTALS
A REGULAR PERSON’S GUIDE TO THE JOY OF RUNNING OR WALKING A HALF-MARATHON OR MARATHON
John Bingham and Jenny Hadfield

Chapter 14 Race Preparation
Those Last Dreadful Hours

Once you are back your hotel room, counting down the hours until race start, it’s time to think seriously about your race wardrobe. Since you’ve brought every piece of running apparel you own, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Even after 30-plus marathons, I still lay out, and put on, exactly what I think I’m going to wear on race morning. I’m not talking about looking into my luggage and making sure it’s all there. I’m talking about taking it all out, putting it all on, taking it all off again, and laying it out in reverse order—fireman style.

This is the point where I completely obsess about my number. I know just where I want it to be. I know that it has to be pinned on in just such a way that it hangs down over my waist. I don’t want it up too high or it will make my stomach look big. I don’t want it too low or it will make my legs look short. I’m not kidding!

If this is your first long-distance event, it’s worth whatever time it takes to get that number exactly where you want it. You know you’re going to want to buy the finish line photo and your are not going to want to look at a crooked number for the rest of your life.

Hope this helps. :D

 first off, must admit I have let my life get in the way of my trip planning! I emailed WWoS directly asking them what discounted park hoppers were available to marathon partcipants and got NO ANSWER! how tacky! Jackie, I just called that Disney Exhibitor Concierge number and asked same question, just matter of factly like i'm sure there are hoppers avaiable I just don't know who to call to get them. I had to leave my number and the gal who can help me will call back in an hour or so when she gets out of her meeting

for towncar -- i'm planning on becoming a dis supporter at a level to get a FL tour discount, anyone know what that discount it? we used them last dec and were happy with them. I"ll be arriving Friday just after noon and going to CBR if anyone wants to share a ride with mom and I. She'll be arriving 2 hours ahead of me and would love to meet someone for coffee i'm sure :smooth:

doesn't WDW know I don't need more stress

and to all those who are returning to our thread I say cyber high five to you! that's the hardest step, the first one, and coming back after a hiatus can be intimidating! you are ALWAYS welcome and i'm sooooo happy to see you :flower1:

today I got my warm buns out of my comfy bed, layered up and hit the pavement for a 50 min powerwalk with stride drills. let me tell you it was very very windy and spitting rain/snow :umbrella: that's me but i'm not so sure of the smile LOL anyhoo -- it's done and i'm glad, i was kinda a boost of my pride that i didn't let those nasty elements stop me i just DID IT! :hyper:

To answer your first question--pin your number on your lowest layer that you plan to expose!!! And just flash when they need to see it. You need that number to go to the finish line--you should be fine on the track--I had the same question as well. This is what I was told by my team. You can see in some of the on-line pics that people don't have the numbers visible--that is because they will shed their long sleeve shirts. There have been incidents of people in races (not sure if Disney or not) being denied entry to the shoot b/c they accidentally tossed their number with their cold clothes.

As far as repinning--you may wish to practice during your walks if you desire to use this method of keeping up with your number. But be prepared for your fingers to not work the way you want them to ;)

I got some input on this as well...........not sure if it was you but somewhere along one of these treads there was a link to a ticket page for disney Wide world of sports.....I think it was you.anyway I got so excited and I too called and thought I would be able to get some discounted tickets.
and I was told no as well......they kept referring me back to getting a package (although i told them I already got a room @ group rates) and anyway those packages are the same packages offered to anyone.

Heres my dilemma..........
I bought 5 7 day hoppers with 4 options in June 03.......
used 2 days then, 2 in december and this past august, we used 2 days on all but one ticket, my hubby stayed home...... so his ticket was safe at home. Somewhere somehow I either lost or my tickets were stolen ( all but hubbys ticket) so now I am out of 4 tickets with one day remaining and four options. I was really looking forward to using this one day left not to mention the options. I called ticketing and they said that guest communications would be able to research it because I still had my husband ticket in pocession. they would be able to hault use on the ones lost and reissue me new ones...........

Heres the problem, I can't get in touch with them.
I have emailed them 5 times since september and someone gave me a FAX number for them I even faxed them a letter and still nothing!!!!!!!!!!! I have explained to everyone that these tickets are very cruical to my marathon trip. I only plan on going for the weekend and have no money to purchase regular priced tickets............
This lead me to these wide world of disney tickets that I saw with 2 and 3 day tickets and great prices............

But its a no go!!!!!!!!!! they are used for certain events at the wode world of sports and are very restricted........

This morning I got desparate and called the allstar movie and explained my dilemma........Like everyone else, she said there is no number for guest communications and guest relations at the parks won;t take any calls either..........

By the way, does anyone know if the marathon reggie includes park admission for that day? and if so, which park?that would be great I would just have to buy 3 day tickets being that we still have hubbys tic............on second thought, I wasnt planning on parking that day I am sure I will be tired.....

Oh mom. let me know what happens with these tickets I am interested in purchasing them if they allow us to.........

I got this off of an earlier thread on this board. It links you directly to the WDW meetings and conventions site. You can purchase the park hoppers at a discount on this site, and they do have the 2 & 3 day hoppers avail, as well as an after 2pm-1 or 2 day ticket option. :jumping4:

another person posted the following about using these tickets:

"the special tickets have to be purchased by someone regestered for the event/convention (you) but can be used by your guest (supposedly immediate family). The first use has to be during the event/time of your resort stay. That was the part I had to get cleared up because the 'event' is 1/6-1/10, but I didn't want to 'start' the ticket till 1/11. I'm OK because I've booked on Disney property for three more days. The ticket has a 10 day life span from date of first use."

I have not purchased mine but am planning to purchase a hopper this way for my husband.

HELP!!!!!!!!! :charac2:

Can't help you much on the tickets.

The marathon registration does not include walking back into the park post-race to enjoy the park :( Otherwise--they'd have to let 18,000 people back into the parks for free.

Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you all know I did 2 miles today. Should've done 5- and maybe I'll try to do 3 more later tonight. But for now I did 2.

Just want to make sure that everyone here has seen my post about no planned events for WISHWalkers at the marathon. I really want to apologize to everyone for all of this falling through. I should've picked up the ball a long time ago. I do truely apologize. Hopefully, we'll be able to plan something's on our own.

Ah, Karen! Don't take it to heart. We can make some mini-meets out of this....more parties! We may not be able to get all together in one spot at the same time, but we will get together! I'm expecting a hug from 20+ of my closest friends!

Good for you for getting out there and walking. It's mighty cold here today, and it's a "rest day" I have interviews tomorrow, but I've already approached a colleague about walking between them tomorrow night. :)

Remember: Just slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!

ANY walking is better than NO walking, unless it's a rest day ;) I came home from work and did a 40 minute, still maintaining the 15 minute mile. I didn't feel like I was going all that fast, but it was really cold and windy, so maybe it made me go faster and I just didn't realize it. The next 2 days are probably going to be rest days for me because "life" is at it again.

Have a great night!

Hi and thanks......not sure about these tickets yet ( I am waiting for them to call me back) however, I stumbled upon some very knowledable folks at the number provided.
I spoke with someone who used to work at guest relations at the themem parks and she said that all I would have to do is bring the ticket that I do have and they would scan it void it and reissue me all new tickets. She was very pleasant and although I told her I believed her I mentioned that with my luck, Ill get there and this won;t be the case. So she transferred me to someone else (I believed) worked at guest relations calls center..he varified that this is the case. Anyway I am still wary that this wont work so I left a message with the conventions support and hope they will call me back and let me know if I can indeed use these tickets. you mentioned the dates 1-6 through 1-10. Is that an offical event period of time?

I am so torn, not sure what to do...........I would like to purchase these tickets perhaps two day tickets and just straighten out my other ticket situation while I am there and use them ( the lost tickets) another time.

Have you spoken with anyone about purchasing them and if this is considered a convention and/or event that falls into the tickets catagory?
Cause the other site that was posted (wide world of sports) I came so close to buying them until I called and they told me that the marathon does not meet the requirment to buy and use those tickets.......

Sorry so long but need some insight............

thanks

I was the one who made that post...I HAVE NOT YET BOOKED TICKETS THROUGHT THIS SITE. I wanted someone (live person) to confirm that I could start use on 1/11 (not 1/10 which is the date window listed on the site). However, I just went back to the site and it would process me the whole way through and sell me the tickets!!! I suppose to be safe I can just get the 3 day and if I don't need to activate it on 1/10 I can always go to a park for breakfast on departure day?! I'll do more research when I get home from work...and AFTER "Lost"

Heres what I found out (after that post)
I called again and was forwarded to a recording that stated they were closed but gave a number in case of an emergency...(not sure who would have a convention emergency...lol) after a few moments of thinking what may constitute an emergency........I CAVED and called...I spoke with a women named Beth and after about a 15 minute conversation, she stated that the marathon does constitute a convention and/or meeting. She says this is the case because so many people are coming for one reason..... I mentioned the dates to her as well jan6-10. she said that sounded about right. SHe also keot telling me that Group ressie should know all about these tickets and I would be able to purchase them over the phone with them.she also gave me the number I have for them which is were we made our ressies..... Heres the problem, I called them a week ago to find out if there were any discounts on tickets and they said No the only thing they would do is sell me a package or reserve my room ( which I have already done) I think I may just buy them.....I too went through the steps to buy them and noticed it didnt ask me what meetin and/or convention I would be attending. Which, is kinda odd.......the restrictions are you and only your immediate family are able to use them.so when do they plan on finding out who the user of the ticket is? I am assumimg at the gate just like a FL resident pass you would need to show your residency. So this leads me to, being able to purchase the ticket and hoping that when I get to the gate that person will believe me when I say "i am here for the marathon"..........

again, I am at a loss....not sure what I am doing.with my dilemma both these tics and my lost tics.......I feel I am taking a chance.......and I simply don't have the money the be safe and buy regualr hoppers.........

Ill keep you posted and if you find anything else out let me know please..........

I walked 4 miles on Sunday and 2 1/2 miles last night. Today was my twins' fourth birthday so I did not get in my cross-training. Tomorrow is a rest day. Then 2 1/2 miles on Friday, cross-training on Saturday and 5 miles on Sunday.

Like everyone else, I have gone back and forth on whether I should even start the race if I can't finish it. I have decided to go as far as I can. The victory for me is having the courage to start. I will continue to train even if I can't make it to the end. My ultimate goal is to be healthier and to avoid the early onset of diabetes that will inevitably be coming my way in the future. It feels so good to do something for myself for a change. Keep going everyone! We can do this! princess:

It was the phone number to this (Disney Meeting)link that I called...321-939-7129 a couple of weeks ago. A woman told me that, yes we were entitled to the tickets AND that as long as I had a reservation on Disney property, the first use date of the ticket could be 1/11 (the dates for tickets/event listed at the web site is 1/6-1/10....MARATHON WEEKEND DATES). I think before I actually buy them I'm going to call again to clarify exactly what the tickets say and what is required (ID?) when you use them. Does anybody remember who posted the original link?? And how she found the Disney Meeting site? Maybe because there are so many participants, they are not 'advertising' this option, but it is available to those who hunt it down??? I'll call tomorrow during business hours and let you know.

It was me, Jackie. I found the Disney Meeting web site by digging around. I can't remember what lead me to look under Disney Meetings. I know I started the search under Sports because these "good for 10 day only" tickets are very common for sporting events like AAU basketball tournaments. I know we had them available in July, but I wasn't the person coordinating our AAU basketball team's trip (we were in the processing of moving from TN to MO). Anyway, one search on the Disney website lead from one thing to another until I found those 'convention' tickets.

Just to make things more interesting... look at this thread on the Budget Boards... 2/3 day hoppers (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=690347) . I have signed up for the mailing list of Discount Orlando Vacation to see if there are ticket offers there. Mousesavers has them as a legitimate ticket broker.

I know it is easier for AAU stuff! Not sure why thousands of Marathoners shouldn't get a deal!

Renee,

Coolmax socks are the best, a little more expensive than normal. What sort of hurt? Blisters? If it's blisters or chafing type hurt then body glide works wonders, I buy it at my local running store and use it on my feet, and my inner thighs, and my inner arms (anywhere my clothes have a seam).

If they ache or it's a sharp pain, then it may be something like too much too soon, or plantar faciitis. Which means slow down.

I haven't done any training this week yet, and my long run this weekend is 8 miles. I am hoping to get a run/walk in tomorrow. I have even gone so far as to tell work that I have an appointment after work so I cannot work late. I do have an appointment with my running shoes, and the pavement.

I hope everyone elses week is going well.

I am up for meeting for breakfast on Saturday morning, and then heading over to the expo, or meeting up for dinner on Sunday night before we head to Pleasure Island.

For Saturday I plan on having a baked potato and hitting my bed early. I probably won't sleep much but I will watch tv or read, and be off my feet and resting. I don't do alot of pasta, rice, bread etc - it doesn't agree with my belly, so I have to load up on other carbs, but if we hit a food court - maybe Pepper Market for dinner, I would join in.

24 sleeps to Christmas Day!

For blisters--COOLMAX socks all the way.

I get knots in my feet--almost like tension spots one would get in the shoulders. I have GREAT shoes--and on long runs, my feet will start hurting at Mile 8. I have recommended the Foot Wheel. It was created for patients with plantar fasciitis (which I do not have)--but it is useful to get out the aches. You press and roll your foot on it and when you get to a sore trigger point--you roll back and forth over that one tiny spot for about 30 seconds or so (it will HURT). Essentially you are doing "myofascial" release on your tootsies. I work on my foot until I feel that most of the tension has been released. My feet eventually feel like heaven--this is after a 16 mile run. My foot wheel is a part of my post long run regiment as much as tossing off my sneakers and throwing on slippers. This is the next best thing to a masseuse--and I have never ever said that about any manual massaging device (I like the plug in varieties usually, b/c I hate working to relax myself).

http://www.worldcycling.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=STK3&Category_Code=UDFGIFTS

I recommended it to one of our other walkers--but I forgot who--she ordered it..I think she was happy with it.

Hope this helps!

I know it is easier for AAU stuff! Not sure why thousands of Marathoners shouldn't get a deal!

Well they attract about 18000 runners (12 regular, plus the rest from charity groups)...too many for Disney to want to mess with Discounts in my opinion. I think it is all about the bottom line and they know they don't have to offer discounts b/c athletes and families will probably do Disney anyway. Supply and Demand--the demand will be high enough, so no need to supply with cheaper rates (stinky, I know!)

With conventions--they want those conventioneers to spend extra money on top of working--like a working vacation. So it is easier for Disney to entice them with after 2pm discounted tix. Otherwise the conventioneers are more apt to do all work and no play. Plus with discounted tix--they are more likely to bring their families along which means more money again.

Just my casual observation.

Have you guys looked at APs as a way around your mess--and then just plan another Disney trip later in the year? Those PHP's are $$$$$. This is our logic when we buy tickets--it doesn't make financial sense for a Floridian to buy PHPs b/c they are much more expensive than our AP's. So perhaps if you could somehow plan 2 trips to Disney--then you would totally reap the rewards of being a passholder--then that can ultimately resort (pardon the pun) in reduced rates to stay on Disney property and such.

I guess I would have to say blister type pain or actually I should say it seemed that I was about to get a blister......

I just realized however, that earlier yesterday morning while I was out I got completely drench by the rain and my feet got soaking wet.........I was at a meeting so I stayed this wet for about 4 hours.........
My feet hurt when I got home and finally changed. My hurt is at the buttom ball ( the bone right under my big toe) and really no where else. you know that "flat feeling" you get when you walk too much........I am definitly gonna hit the store later and find some coolmax........
as well as glide, my arms were rubbing against my body and that began to hurt too.......

that is the number I called as well..... and as I said they were very knowledgable about many things except these tics in particular.......I hate to be a synic (<-----spelling? )
(lol) but she didnt know exactly what I was tlaking about, I had to read what I was looking at and as I mentioned she kind of rationalized the mararthon being a meeting or convention.........I think we can all agree it is but what I mean is she defined to me ( about a hugh amount of people coming for one reason) and then kinda came up with the anwser "yes" you can use them...... thats what makes me nervous.........
But i did talk to hubby last night and he said I should just chill out and buy them....if worse came to worse and we were there and there was a problem.....Disney is so good about customer service they would ( and i am so persistant...lol) it would all work out.........
SO I think I'll buy them......

However, i will wait till you post about what they said to you lol.......Just to be sure one more time.lol :D

Good morning everyone! This thread has been busy today!!!

I have a friend that bought the tickets through the convention site. I'll find out what she did, but I think she might have used WISHWalkers as her convention, which then allowed her to have the dates she needed open for the tickets. She ordered them, but I'm not sure if she got them in the mail yet. I'll let you know when I find out.

Hi all!
It's still been a slow week with training (best laid plans...). Today I'm definitely going to the mall to walk while the kids are at school. While I'm there I need to do some Christmas shoping for my grandmother. My mom helps her with shopping for everyone else, but Nana refuses to let Mom take her when she's buying something for her (my mom). She's a real rip! She'll be 85 in a couple weeks, and only retired from her part time job two years ago. She's only now (barely) beginning to admit that her mobility is diminishing. She's beginning to use the walker we bought her last year and is admitting that shopping alone is too much for her. However, her vanity is completely in tact. She never leaves the house without her makeup on, her hair done, and the proper jewelry to go with her outfit. She'd probably be appalled by the way I leave the house sometimes. We are truly blessed to have her in our lives. I'll pick up a few things for her to give Mom and wrap them for her too.

Saturday I'm planning on walking a little over 5 miles. My route around my neighborhood measures out to be 4.35 miles. This weekend I'm going to try doing a warmup mile that I don't time and then do the 4.35 timed. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey everyone- I talked to my friend and here's the scoop on the tickets.

If you look on the front page left hand column towards the top- it says " Tickets onlyvalid for 10 days from 1st use. First use must be by December 30, 2005."

So- Even though the official dates typed in on the site may be from Jan. 6-10, you can still use them beyond those dates, as long as it is within the 10 day limit from 1st use. Also note, that if you don't use them in January, they are good until Dec. 30, 2005. My friend says her tickets have no dates printed on them at all. I ordered a 3 day PH today and it said it would arrive by Dec. 16th- so you may not want to wait too much longer if you need them for Christmas.

WOOOO HOOOOO! I'm booking mine tonight!!!!

Edited to add: If they ask for a group name.....shall we use WISH WALKERS, like your friend did? When I called the Disney Meeting 321-939-7129 number they said you had to be part of a booked resort convention/meeting. I'm not concerned about that, if they are letting anyone who makes it to that site buy tickets and the tickets don't look any different that regular hoppers I'm going for it.

If you go to the link that was provided on this thread (by whomever provided it!) you shouldn't need to use a group name. It takes you right where you want to go. Evidentally the fact that you are going to be in the marathon is enough to get you these tickets according to others- right?

Thanks for the good news, Karen! I am buying those convention tickets as well. Especially after the info I read on the Mousesavers.com. It seems those become available to the ticket brokers at times as well.

Lisa, thanks for the AP suggestion. That is our typical thought process. However if I purchase an AP now, I will have a different expiration date from my family and we always get 2 trips out of our APs. Very cost effective that way.

Now, I would like to take a moment, if you would be so kind...
I was ROCKING today!! :cool1: WOO HOO!! Today was my 8 mile walk. I tried a new trail - it was a bust because it was an actual *hiking* trail - with hills! STEEP hills! :scared: I didn't get very far before I decided to need to go back to my typical walking path of a 4 mile loop.

It was cool/cold and very windy at times, but.... I finished 8 miles in 2 hours and 14 minutes!!! :earseek: That time includes my warm up, stopping at the van to get a new water bottle, blow my nose and grab some tissue, and picking up and putting my radio back together! Over half of the last mile was walking straight into a terrible wind (I was at 2 hrs 2 mins at 7.5 miles). I am SO excited!! Before that last .5 miles, I had a 16.26 mph pace! Including that last section, I maintained 16.75 mph pace!

Some things I noticed
.... I had a full Black Cherry Almond Clif bar 25 mins before starting (this will probably end up being my breakfast on THE DAY). Every 30-40 mins, I had another 1/2 bar. For the last 30 min push, I sucked down a Vanilla Bean GU. Not sure if GU gave me the kick I needed. I was feeling pretty tired but that wind was a huge factor. I will have to try GU again because it is easier to carry (smaller).
.... I was walking alone and having a radio made a HUGE difference! DUH on me for not bringing one before.
.... (this is terrible BUT it worked for me) PASSING people helps! LOL! ::yes:: This was a first for me. I am the one typically getting passed. Today I passed THREE people!! Granted they were all 15-20 years older than me.... I didn't want to catch to someone and then end up walking next to them in uncomfortable silence, so I would get close, pick my moment and GO FOR IT! I didn't want to pass them and have them pass me back, so I kept the speed on for a nice little distance and then resumed my usual pace. I see this being a huge tool for me on THE DAY. I will just pick a body and say, I am going to pass that person!

It's all coming together!! All of the hard training is paying off! :jumping4: :cool1: :jumping4: (Can you tell I am a little excited? :hyper: )

Terry I needed to read your post today! I was just getting online to tell everybody how I just am losing any steam I had built up to do any walking anymore! But now- I'm gonna go upstairs and walk on my treadmill. I need to do it, I want to finish this marathon- and, BY GOLLY, I'm going to do it !!!! Thanks! I needed your little shout of joy to move me forward!

PLESAE everybody- REMEMBER...... I'm no expert about these tickewts- I'm just passing on what I've been told.

Jackie- did you order your tickets yet?

I passed on the logos to Lily, who will kindly post them for others to download, thanks LILY :flower1:

I did it, I walked 5 miles today and at a 15 in pace :Pinkbounc I was also walking into the strongggggg wind. I feel great, except for my feet :sad1 but now with my slippers on they feel much better :D

Karen, what's the worse that could happen with the tickets? they email you and say no, right? you can always buy them at the park. I'm going to try it too. Where is that link????

Terry's got it - she's got the "zip" now - I can just tell that she is "rip roaring raring to go" (unless tomorrow is a rest day) she's got the "PASSING" itch! WTG! - awesome job - mmmm - is there a commercial in there somewhere for Cliff bars and GU, too :D I also think of passing as mini-goals - gives me a real boost to pick a target and then go and get em!!! Keep up the good work!

My hurt is at the buttom ball ( the bone right under my big toe) and really no where else. you know that "flat feeling" you get when you walk too much........I am definitly gonna hit the store later and find some coolmax........

I just had to respond to your comment. I had this same "hurt" a couple of years ago when I really got into heavy duty walking. Finally went to a podiatrist and I actually have a broken sesmoid bone. (bone right behind the big toe) I think it is a "fairly" common problem - I was fitted with orthotics and have not had pain since. Dr. did say that it is better to just leave alone (no surgery) unless it becomes too unbearable - again I do quite well with the shoe inserts. Now, I am not trying to say that is your problem, but if yours does not get better - I would suggest that you seek a dr.'s opinion.

Had a chat with oHmom (Molli) earlier and I am going to follow her lead on our park tickets and when we can meet, etc. as I have "hired" her as my personal TA for this trip - I figure it is well worth a few DIS $'s to have such good guidance :earboy2: - thanks everyone for your input on everything, I really am trying to absorb it all - I only get nervous about the whole thing when I read things like "24 more sleeps till Christmas" (yikes!) and trying to figure out what to wear, etc. I practice my yoga breathing, and remind myself to take it one day at a time!

This week I have been able to stick to the MFM training (where in the heck is Little Miss Mickey, anyway). I have been trying real hard to stay with South Beach diet foods and am losing that Thanksgiving "bloat" feeling too! Hooray - I feel like I am going in the "right direction"!

I think of all of you - so often during the day - and really can't wait to meet - I know that we will get it all worked out. I do like the idea of posting pix's sometime - let's think in that direction.

Also, I have a scanned lime green mickey (scanned lime paint chip) that I made name tag/luggage tags for our trip last Dec. I put board name on one side and WISH on the other, laminated them and tied them with green curly ribbon to luggage, carry-on, camera, etc. I plan to use mine again (yes, oHmom I will make you a new one, I didn't get her name just right, last time  Anyway, if you are interested and want me to send the file (it's a WORD document) pm me with your email address. I did have one person -recognize me as a WISHer while in the parks.

Keep up the good work fellow trainees - it won't be long

You can get the designs she is sharing with us here. (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=2134725456&code=13269635&mode=invite&DCMP=isc-email-AlbumInvite)
Save the pics that you wil use to your computer, or I think you can print them on your transfers right from the site.

The backs are the same.

Let me know if it works. If not, I guess we will need another plan to get these to everyone who wants.

I figure that maybe it might be easier to access. I am not sure, but I thought I would play with the "free" space I am given here as well. Trying to learn how to work this stuff too.

I am going to be away from the 4th-11th and hope everyone has time to get their shirts in order. I hope to check back in tomorrow once more. If a am not able to do so, then have a great week everyone.

running over to mousesavers to see about the tickets.

Here's the link:
http://www.mousesavers.com/wdwticketprices.html#myw

A two day park hopper would be $154 (plus tax) and valid for 14 days from first use. Another example: a 3 day park hopper with no expiration date $216. The longer the length of the ticket....the better the savings.

So what did you think of the Mousesavers info, Jackie? I think we would still be better off with the convention tickets. Unless I am misunderstanding something, the convention tickets are a better value.

If anyone is still looking for socks, I found the perfect pair at Fleet Feet. They are called Wright Sock Lite. They are thin socks (which I prefer) with 2 layers and Coolmax! I have some other coolmax socks but these are by far the best. I am going to get some more this week. I have found another piece of my marathon wardrobe!! :teeth:

Yes, the convention tickets are a better value.

Well, after running some numbers I've picked what I will do.....but I'm going to sleep on it. Under the new system a 2 day hopper (with a 14 day shelf life) is $164, including tax. ($10 more for unlimited life...but not necessary in my case) A CURRENT 4 day park hopper (no longer available for sale after 1/1/05), purchased in advance, is $215.13. My sister could pay for her two day usage ($108) and I'd have two days remaining. Pals from my high school (in Indiana) are planning a 'field trip' to Tampa in the spring (they all came here to Phoenix last year) and I could spend a couple of days at WDW (my AP doesn't expire till mid-April) and would have a two day hopper available for a playmate....one that only had cost me $108 and would have cost them $164 to buy in April. I know if I go with the convention ticket, come April I'll regret not doing in this way. I think this is what will work best for my circumstances. But will see what ideas a good night's sleep may bring!

These are my socks, too, Terry. For Canadians, I got mine at The Running Room, and would love another pair or two for Christmas....but since DH doesn't travel that way, I guess I'll have to pick them up for him. (and and you did an AWESOME job, yesterday, BTW)

I managed a 40 minute power walk between interviews last night, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. More interviews today. The first reports of grade one can be really hard on some parents. They seem to think that it is a parenting issue if little MarySue or Nickolas aren't quite ready for the academics. [sigh]

good morning all. i'm eating a small bowl of breakfast, small cup of international coffee and will be heading out the door in a litte over an hour for my 9 mile walk today. whewie, that sounds so far

i wish I had more ticket info that what I got. Andrew from the exhibitor conc. number returned my call and left me a message late wed. yesterday I called him back and he asked for my email for a link and he said "I think i'm going to make you popular among your group, I found your website to buy your marathon participant tickets" So I got the link, clicked on it and it was that same link I found on WWoS page a week or so ago. you know the one you put your "Team/Participant Name" in to enter. I put my name in and got the same dilemma of the date being wrong. So, now I reply to Andrew's email with that info and he say "I had tried your name to make certain that you could get in, but did not catch that! Good catch!

By clicking on the Guests Services tab at the bottom, it shows the number (407) 566-4985 for tickets. This office should be able to assist you with your needs, as they are specifically tied to the ticket/events office.

the number you had previously contact were more than likely the actual sports complex. Not necessarily linked to group ticket info.

Let me know if you continue to experience any challenges.

Good luck with the ticket and more importantly the race!"

Well I called the number and left a message. I think I'll reply to his email this morning that I tried yesterday, was on long-distance hold for quite awhile then left a message and no one returned my call. I'll wait until after my walk to see if anyone calls before 11 a.m.

i LOVE the transfers! Thank you thank you MaryEllen!!! btw -- i have a white shirt for whoever asked.

Good Friday Morning Everyone,

I haven't been exactly on schedule this week but yesterday I did get on the treadmill and try the "go at one speed, kick it up a notch and then go down a bit, go up etc. I found that the first speed I kicked it up to ended up being my cool down speed. Neat eh!!

The Canadian contingent that is related to me will be wearing white t-shirts because that's what I'm getting. I want all the lovely colours in that awesome logo to stand out well. I'm thinking I'll be wearing that t-shirt to the dinner on Saturday night. Well now I must get started here at work because when you go away on vacation your work is waiting for you when you come back home. I think I'm finally ahead of it and then month end came and now I have soooo much stuff to get ready for Christmas.

It's really cold and windy here today, but tomorrow it's supposed to be warmer. I hope so because I know I couldn't do my long walk with today's weather. I'd be using my inhaler every 10 minutes.

Have a super weekend everyone!!

hi and thanks for the new ticket info...although, I havent done the math it seems that if you want the same tickets you have used in the past, it will cost about the same...but it is nice to have options........
As far as my ticket dilemma, We decided that we will take or chances with my current (lost) tickets. Refreshing your memory........ I had 5 tickets lost four so I have been told by a few people that all I would have to do is take that one ticket to WDW guest relations, and they will reissue me new ones......... anyway I hope this is true, we have shortened our trip so that we may be able to spend more time with family so all inall, I will only be going to the parks one day which is what I have left on thsoe ticket ( and four options). Ill be going hopping friday and saturday, just relaxing and hopefully meeting you all at trails end, ( I could even use one of my options on that day ( if all goes well) and hit a WP, let the kids play and Ill lay in the sun. do the marathon sunday, wake up monday and go home.

I hope you guys work out your ticketing situations as well........

and I hope you all come to the trails end dinner...

Granny...... thanks for the info my the foot thing......that is interesting, I was glad to hear that if its not a big issue nothing needs to be done.
I realized however after I posted that that morning I had gotten my feet wet socks shoes and all during a huge rain fall, I happen to be at an appointment and had no choice but stay this way for about 3 hours. When I got home mty feet were hurting me then. It went away then I did the 2 hours on the mill ( which was afirst for ) I really pushed myself, I had only ever done an hour at the most.

anyway, I am off today to find coolmax and gonna experiment other sneakers.........

talk to you all soon.

And Lily ... have a great trip. We'll be thinking of you while you're at our most favourity place in the whole wide world! And Meme ... the logos are awesome. Since I want to wear my coolmax shirt for the actual race, I too will be wearing mine on Saturday night. And our own family had ones made up to wear post-race.

Need to do a long walk this weekend ... kind of counting on Debbie to motivate me into that ;) It's cold and windy here today ... oh wait, I guess that's just December!

I hit the thrift store today--and for less than $14 got a jogging suit/windbreaker, 2nd pair of wind athletic pants and a sweat shirt. Both pants have zip legs--so hopefully with pracitice, I will not have to destroy the pants to remove them easily. I figure since they are donating the clothes--I might as best I can keep my clothes in one piece. Now all I have to do is find a toss away blanket :)

Today is my rest day and tomorrow is my long day--16 miles!! Think of me and my chevrolet--"shev" your left and "lay" your right that is. My step-father used to say that to me anytime I asked for the car--take the chevrolet--but we don't have one--yes you do "shev" your left and "lay" your right. I didn't really like him all that much!

Off topic--sort of...

I was just able to buy tickets on Southwest Airlines to fly to Baltimore in January. We bought for our family of 4 and it cost us only $386. I know tickets are still available the other way around--and various cities are pricing near that price range. Might be helpful if some of you hadn't purchased your airline tickets yet. Also on the budget boards some were sharing of some deals on Independence Airlines--but I am not familiar with them.

Tiger Lily--tickets from Cleveland are $142 total per person

From Phoenix about $216

St. Louis $176

Islip $135

These are all on weekday flights--weekend flights may be a tad higher--not sure where else everyone else is from--Using quick reply and was reference the locations listed on page 7 from everyone's signatures.

I have gotten back into training . Tues. I did 120 minutes at the gym and today I did 60 min. (45 on the elliptical) I inpressed the ladies at the desk. They asked how long I was on the machine . I've started to get back on plan and have lost 3 pounds. Tomorrow I do an 8 mile walk/run. Might try it on a treadmill. We have had 4 inches of snow. I bought myself new running shoes yesterday. They are New Balance Bright Yellow and black. Great price. I can't seem to figure out why my toes go numb shortly after I start running. I have tried 5 different pairs of shoes and 5 combinations of socks. I've loosened and tightened my laces but no luck so far. They even go numb on the elliptical that has no pounding of my feet. Hope I can figure it out.
I would like to purchase the convention tickets but we are not staying on Disney Properties. Can I still qualify to purchase them? We will probably use them first on Monday 1/10. Would love to save some$$$. We will only need 3 day hoppers with a plus (5 adult). Haven't done the Math to check out the new tickets.

Thanks for your help.

my 9 mile walk for this weekend - yep -all done - did it on the treadmill - I know some of you "hate" it but I do okay - actually think I go faster on it as I can keep my pace set. Did it in 2:04 - happy with that - but mostly just happy that I got it done and now I am off to shower and move on with a busy day!

Decaff - I'll be thinking of you on tm - I just pop in an Oprah tape and go......... and the toe thing - my feet don't go numb but my long toes always bruise on long walks - today no exception!

Did my 16 miles in 3:05:23...wahoo!!! Coach says we are in our final phase and we can do whatever is enjoyable and easy and to not push it anymore. YEAH!!! I don't think I was pushing it today. I didn't hit the wall at 14 miles like I did 2 weeks ago...the legs were functioning well until the very end. I also noticed that my walk break paces are timing faster than normal. YEAH!

I shaved about 10 minutes off of my 16 mile time from 2 weeks ago :)

A note of encouragment--when the coach was telling us to not strive for our Personal Record during training--he was saying that if we can do a 12 minute mile easy now--that we should have NO problem getting around a 10 minute mile on race day. I want to encourage you ladies--b/c the proof is in he "wogging/walking/jogging/running"...My time last week during a race was phenomenal!!! The coach is saying that during a race--you can clear 1-2 minutes extra OFF of you pace time...that is what happened to me last week...so those of you walking at the 18 minute paces--you should give yourselves a pat on the back--because on race day--you will FINISH and get donald around your neck :) (I cleared about 90 seconds off of my pace during the race last week).

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

GO WISH TEAM!!

Lisa- it sounds like you're right on track too! COngrats on a great time. I would LOVE it if the race would take 2 minutes off my time!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we ALL will lose 2 minutes in the excitement of the event!

I did a toal of 6 miles today before I had to stop because the old shins started hurting again. But it wasn't an AWFUL hurt- it wasn't bad at all! I just really w ant to babay it so it doesn't get to be what it was!!! I did really great with my eating today too- which is the first tiem ini at least 2 months! I feel so much better too. Well- maybe something is starting to kick back in, and I really will be ready for this half marathon on January 9th!

Decaff- It's so good to see you again! ANd you have really not lost too much if you can go to the gyn and do what you've done! You're toie thing would suggest to me a lack of circulation in your legs. Well- maybe! That just doesn't seem right. Does it start right away? If it starts well into your walk, maybe your feet are sweeling too much for your shoes. Where have you loosened the laces??

Lisa - Great time!! What wonderful words of encouragement to everyone. I found that out when I did a 10k. Almost 2 full minutes off my best mile time. What a treat!!

Grammy - Thanks for the encouraging words. I bought my shoes a full size bigger than usual to prevent sore toes and it worked. Good luck!!

Karebear1- I like to get my walking done as soon as I get up. It always gets done if I put it first ,otherwise I think about it all day. I'm going to see the Chiropractor this week. He also is a Sports Med. person so I am hoping he can help with the toe thing..

I got in 125 minutes on the treadmill at my school this am. I ran 1 minute and walked 3 like the Book says. I started running 2 and walking 3. That worked better for me because I just wasn't getting in a full minute when I was switching. Felt good to be done. I think I made it 7.5 miles. Watched Sleepless in Seattle while I treaded. Went quickly. My toes started going numb. I started really wiggleing them to fight it off and it worked for a bit.

Tonight my older daughter went to her Winter Formal. She is so grown up but still wants my help. We had a hair appointment at 2:00 , got there at 1:50, told it would be a 30 minute wait, she finally sat to get her hair done at 3:20. She was suppposed to be at her friends for pictures by 4:30. We were driving home at 4:30. Got home at 4:45, she put on her dress, I grabbed her bag and sleepover stuff and we were out the door at 4:55. 10 minutes to get ready for formal!! Amazing!! Not even any tears. Kept telling her to take deep breaths. She looked beautiful!! The younger daughter went off to snowboard (first day). I'm just relaxing and watching a bit of TV.

Might take tomorrow as rest or do pilates if I have time early.

Hope all are well and training consistantly!!!

I'm going to double-check the mileage tomorrow because with all the moving of my fanny pack, I'm not sure if my pedometer was working properly. I'm thinking close enough. We did 7.1 miles, and I didn't feel we were pushing the speed at all. In fact, it was hard work in the fact that it was terribly cold and windy. We might not have been moving as fast, but we were definitely working as hard ::yes::

Congrats to everyone on another fabulous training week. 5 weeks from right now it will almost be time to get up and have a quick "wake-me-up" shower. I'm kind of wishing I had a TM now with this bitter cold weather. It rained for part of our walk today, and it was sooooo cold.

DECAFF38 - Has anyone mentioned getting your running shoes a half or whole size larger than you ussually wear? I had two different shoe guys tell me that and it has really worked for me. I moved up from a 10 to an 11 and it really made a difference (yes, my feet are boats).

Well, I'm finally back on track with my training (again). I did a short walk today so that I didn't over do it. I was able to do my 4.35 miles averaging right about 16 minute miles. Dh has been instructed to kick me out of bed for my walks the next 6 days. I agree with everyone who says that doing your walk/runs first thing in the AM is the best way to make sure it gets done. If it's too cold/rainy/snowy, I'll drive over to the mall. They open at 7AM for walkers.

I tried to post yesterday, but it didn't work! I did 11 miles yesterday in 2 hr. 30 min. I felt really good. Now I feel a lot less good, like a rickety old lady! I am afraid that my limbs are simply going to abandon me, they are VERY unhappy! (My mind feels better, though, because I found time to do it... and now I know that I'm not insane having the goal of completing this half!)

Sounds like you are all doing quite well! I will get that Jellyrolls meet thread up very soon. Friday night is what we're aiming for for that, right? I might make my way over there Monday night, too... We will see.

I can't wait to meet you all! FIVE WEEKS til race day! (We will be done by this time then!!!)

Keep it up! You are all so inspiring. Thanks, Karen, for getting me back on track! You were what I needed to remind myself that I have my own goals to worry about!!

Lisa- it sounds like you're right on track too! COngrats on a great time. I would LOVE it if the race would take 2 minutes off my time!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we ALL will lose 2 minutes in the excitement of the event!

We have walkers AND runners in our group--he was speaking to the whole group...so it is possible--you guys have to cheer each other on--that is THE trick! Keep up the good work--and you guys just walk your way to victory lane!!! You will shave time!!! The atmosphere is busy!!! You'll go faster and not even know it!!!!

Hi everyone

We were having computer problems agian and couldn't connect to the internet from Tues. until my DH finally got things working again today. I have a feeling we are going to be buying a new computer in the not to distant future :badpc:

This has not been a very good training week for me and I had such intentions to really be walking a lot and it just didn't happen  Wed I walked on the HATED treadmill for 60 min. and did OK but then when I was stretching afterwards I felt my right hamstring cramp up badly which left it sore until yesterday so today I walked outside and I got a blister on my left heel making me quite walking at 40 min instead of the hour I had hoped to get in. I haven't had a blister in months and I even wore my good socks. I feel like I am starting to fall apart and at all times with only 5 weeks to go when I need to be getting in that last good training. Well I've bandaged my heel and hopefully I'll be in better shape this coming week. Sorry for all the wining!

On a much cheerier note we did decide to buy DVC!!!! We decided to buy directly from DVC so our home resort is Saratoga Springs and I actually made our first reservation for June at the BC. I am sooooooooo excited!!!!!!!

Kepp moving everyone! We can do this!!!!!!

I'm off to run some errands and then I'll be back to get caught up here on the boards.

Cheryl, don't beat yourself up for a rotten week. You and I can start our own club. Last week is over and we're on to a new week. Let's begin anew tomorrow. We still have lots of time to get it all together and if we don't we'll have fun trying.

Have a great Sunday evening everyone and we'll see you on next week's thread!!

I did 8 miles today in 1hr 57 mins and 34 seconds. Not too bad. I am running 3 walking 2, and I walked the first 20 minutes, because I felt really stiff and sore. So it averages out to 14.15mins per mile. I'll take that!

Then I had just enough time to shower and dress, and we went curling for 2 hours. It was alot of fun, but should not be done after a long run! So I am going to take an extra rest day tomorrow, and I will run on Tuesday.

Sunday I did my 45 minutes of crosstraining. Today is a day of rest. :)
