I don't know if this question should be here or in the Orlando hotels thread, but I thought I would start here.
We have ressies at POFQ, got the coded rate, and our plans changed slightly that now we will be in Orlando a day early. We thought we would maybe try one of the Value resorts but now those will cost more than what we are paying for a moderate. So, we are looking for an inexpensive hotel near the park just for one night. We stayed on International Dr. (I don't know which hotel it was) once, doing the same type thing, and it was a real dump. We thought we may try one of the Downtown Disney hotels. Any suggestions?

We have stayed at The Doubletree near DTD and it was great! I would highly recommend it.

I would bid on Priceline for a RESORT hotel in the Disney area. We are going in December and got the Wyndham Resort for 2 nights at $62 per night. A great hotel right across the street from Downtown Disney.

We have stayed at the DoubleTree (last Feb) and Courtyard (now Holiday Inn). Both hotels were nice. You can get great rates on the Internet or using PriceLine, Hotwire, etc.
The two hotels that are located the closest to DD are the Hilton and Wyndham. I have been in the lobby of both hotels and they seem very nice. Both are right accross the street from DD.

Stay at the Hilton in dtd, Club/Concierge floor is a must! It's also the only hotel in dtd to offer the EMH! :smooth:

Someone mentioned Priceline and Hotwire, so I thought I would let you know that I used Hotwire today and ordered the 3.5 star room for $44 in the Downtown Disney area. Unlike Priceline, this is not an auction--they list the actual price. The room is at the Doubletree that someone recommended within this thread. So, we think we got a sweet deal!

Just booked through Hotwire. $44 at the Doubletree. Never did Hotwire before. Hope there aren't any hidden surprises! Thanks for the tips.

What dates are you getting Doubletree for $44? I see there is a 3.5 star on Hotwire available for $44 for next weekend (Dec 3/4). The amenities are Restaurant, Fitness Center, Business Center and Laundry. Could this be the Doubletree? Sounds tempting.

I got the Doubletree for two different nights: the 11th and the 17th. (We're at OKW in between those two dates because friends gave us DVC points as a Christmas present. YEAH!)
The amenities (Restaurant, Fitness Center, Business Center and Laundry) description that you list is the same as the Doubletree that I booked. Check out www.biddingfortravel. They provide a good description of properties and their amenities for Hotwire so that you can make a pretty good guess about which hotel you will get. This site will also give you good advice for Priceline.

But is it the Doubletree in Lake Buena Vista or the Doubletree Downtown Disney? Based on info from betterbidding.com, it is probably Lake Buena Vista, right?
Still a great rate!

JTIGGER the Doubletree you booked isn't the doubletree that is one of the official downtown disney resorts. I'm not sure by your post if that is you thought or if your aware that there are two doubletrees in the area. The official downtown disney resort doubletree website is
http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/Doubletree.html
Either way that rate is still pretty good!

Since the room is just for our first and last nights, being close will be good enough (especially at that price!), but it is good to know for future reference that there is this difference between the locations.

We stayed at both the Hilton and Wyndham both on Priceline bids and enjoyed both resorts.

We stayed at the Grosvenor and it's the absolute closest to DTD/Pleasure Island. Our visit was wonderful, the rooms clean and large, the staff very friendly, and the prices were right.

We stayed 3 nights at the Doubletree in downtown Disney and it was great! Good amenities and staff was great! We also stayed one night at the Best Western in Downtown Disney and it was okay...good enough for one night. It made us appreciate the OKW and AKL much more!!
