I've been watching the Candy Cane Inn for our dates - 3/5 - 3/10 - and the weekend rates went UP from $85 to $102! Should I book now so that I know I have lodging, or wait hoping that they will go down?
Bummer.

The rates do not go down usually. Since the Candy Cane is cancellable it is ALWAYS a good idea to book as soon as you know your dates. You can always rebook and cancel the original ressie. If they do go down it will not be until much closer to the dates.
Rates are generally based on bookings. So if bookings are on target they will go up, if they are low the rates will go down.

Did you try going directly to Candy Cane Inn's website. I don't even know if they have one. When I went directly to the Best Western Park Place Inn website ( not Best Western's website) I got a better price than from the chain's website. Hope this will get you your original rate.

Yes, I've been watching their site. Saw some dude on TV the other day giving tips and he said CALL the number - local number - that's how he's gotten the best rates.
