Good Evening All!
I am one tired DISer/Grandma today. After getting about 2 hours of sleep after booking ressies, we attended our GD's baptism - about 1.5 hours away. It was well worth it, but I am so tired.
Renee -- DH and Bob (our cruising friend) will be on the Bubba fishing trip in St. Maarten. I saw that excursion waiting for 3am to arrive and it's almost $30 less than fishing at CC.
Good Night All!!!

It's never too soon, we did a 3 day in May too.
Looking forward to seeing some more posts from you soon!!

Hi gang!
Denise - got a digital camera? I hope you're going to ask for your money back on that iron - Bet you'll get it!
I wouldn't have been upset if I hadn't awakened, but quarter of 3 came, the lights were on and I was bright eyed and busy tailed. It's amazing how much faster the boards are in the middle of the night!
Really looking forward to going to lunch in Parrot Cay and being able to relax and not have to think about making ressies.
Woogal, it must have been the day for cooking - Zuccini bread sounds great - rainy here too and I made the next four days meals. (We leave for Ohio on Thursday).
Sleep well!
No we were on the Aug. 12 Western. I think we're thinking it's too soon only because we will have to take DD8 out of school for four days...but we are slowly getting over that since we have taken her out the past two years - a whole week when she was in K and 2 1/2 days last year ..both for WDW trips..and she is none the worse for it. We try to take a trip of some kind every 3-4 months..but rarely repeated anything like this in one year let alone a few months...that's how much we liked it.

I didn't get up at 3 am but I was still able to get everything I wanted except for High Tea at 8:30 Sunday morning.
We have brunch on Monday, Palo Dinner on Thursday (our anniversary) and we are doing the rasul on Tuesday. ;) We did it before when it was still called the Suriel bath.
We had a busy weekend. We took our two godson's to see Cars at the Drive in Friday night, Saturday we went out to dinner with some friends and Sunday after church we had a baptism (our oldest Godson was baptised) and a church picnic. (inside since it was raining :beach: )
at least we have a three day weekend coming up

Good morning,
Athene, you still have a drive in movie theater??? I loved drive in movies when I was younger, lots of memories there :rolleyes1
Wish we still had them.
well I am sitting here hearing the dreaded word of the week, ERNESTO!!!
That is all that anyone is talking about today. I do feel badly for the Wonders thursday cruisers. depending on what it does on wednesday they could have delayed flights or have the ship have to dock at a different port, then they have to race to try and get there on time. If you have booked DCL transportation it wouldnt be a problem but lots just rent a car.
There has to be alot of stressed out people out there today!!!
I too sit there waiting for the ship to pass the two palms web cam every saturday and sunday that we are home. So you are NOT alone!!! I know I need to get a life on the weekends :rotfl2: Dinner does not get fixed until the ship has passed!!!
well time to run out and fill up my gas tank, just in case. We have a generator and some gas cans that are already filled, I have lots of bottled water and food and the propane in the BBQ is pretty filled for cooking too, so we are ready. I even have a new flashlight.
Denise, How is the toe today??

Jeff: I want to extend our welcome and hopes that you and your family will be joining us. This is an interesting group, but they seem pretty harmless overall!
To All you Nana Heads: I hope you had a great weekend and I hope this week is great to you! I am looking forward to the extended weekend. Hopefully, I will be able to finish up at my client's a little early this week, and maybe get a four day weekend!

Kathy,
There is a drive in theatre close to you. As you know, we live pretty close to each other and if you take 441 north, half way between Belleview and Ocala there is a drive in on the left, should only be about a 30 minute drive for you guys. They do play new releases so you won't have to go see Attack from Planet Mars.
Jeff-read your trip report, look forward to meeting you guys, if you join in.
See you guys later

Good morning Banana Heads
:welcome: JEFF AND FAMILY!!! By posting on this thread, you are now official Banana Heads as well! It's never too soon for another DCL! I'll PM some info to you about our Cruisemate List shortly. Oh BTW ... GO BROWNS! :lmao:
Here's some easy shopping, especially for those of us with a broken toe (OUCH!). Disney Store website has a really cute Mickey Photo Tote marked down to $9.99. I would bet that I'll see at least one of you carrying this on the ship!! http://disneyshopping.go.com/DSSectionPage.process?Merchant_Id=2&Section_Id=13840&Product_Id=190595
Denise, even though you broke your toe, I totally understand the need to go to Target. It's a woman's duty, regardless of the pain!!! :rotfl: (Hey, check your PM).
Kelly, you got a :rotfl2: from me! I don't usually have that much energy ... but it comes in spurts when it does! I usually can't figure out what to make for dinner either!
Lynn and Cheri, enjoy the recipe. I hope you love it as much as I do! (See Bill? SOME people like my zucchini bread!) :p
Jamie, I have a confession to make. I'm not really a Johnny fan, but a Capt. Jack fan (if that makes any sense to you). So if Johnny's on the cruise and not in Capt. Jack attire pirate: (complete with accent), then you can have him!
Linda: Drive safe this week :drive:. Hope it's a short, smooth ride!
Bob: Just saw your post. Don't you ALWAYS get an extended weekend?? I think I remember you saying something about you never work on Friday afternoons ... and of course you don't get to work until like noon on Mondays!!! :teeth:
Gotta run for now ...

Hmmm...let's see. WHO was it that couldn't bear to drag their self out of bed in order to get the ressies they wanted? Let's see, I was on the computer at 3:00 a.m.....

Welcome JD - hope you come aboard! The decorations will definately be up - complete with 'snow' at CC - Lampy has a great family pic on CC that he used for christmas cards. It's in this thread somewhere!
Denise - sorry about the toe - that's a major :furious: . Try and stay off it as much as possible - obviously you are making a good start by traipsing around Target  . Mind you, if we had Target in Canada I would likely be there too! You guys keep talking about such cool stores - Target, Kohl's etc. and I am sad 'cause we have a pretty lame selection up here. Oh well, I have no money anyway so maybe it's a good thing!
Glad to hear everyone got most if not all the ressies they wanted.
We are:
Palo Dinner Friday 8pm
Palo High Tea Thursday 3pm (may cancel this one)
Spa Villa Monday 2:30pm (thank God for our re-booking credit as this one hurts the old pocketbook!!!!!!!)
The owner of the barn where I ride unfortunately had a fall on the x-country course at the World Equestrian Games so is eliminated. Too bad, as x-country is generally his strength. It's gotta be depressing to travel all the way to Germany and get eliminated half way through. But, he is OK and his horse is OK so all is well.
Fingers crossed for everyone in FL and along the coast that Ernesto passes you on by.
BTW - you all are a chatty bunch for sure - I didn't log on during the weekend and had like 5 pages to read through! :teeth:
Talk to you all soon!!!!!!!

Good Morning All:
You have been a chatty bunch. I got on to make ressie yesterday morning and I had to spend 20-30 minutes catching up. We got some of the ressie's we wanted. We got the Golden Catamaran in St Marteen and the Captain Natica in St Thomas (zoom zoom on speed boats). I didn't get the brunch on Thursday at Palo's I wanted so I will most likely wait until the first timers get a chance and try along with them to get a ressie for Thursday (its my Husband's birthday).
I hope everyone stays safe with all the storms and hurricane in the forecast. We have rain today, but then back to normal tempatures of 80's and 60's at night. (Fall is almost here).
Welcome to JD99, we hope that you are able to join us. Most of us are quite normal, other than our obsession with DCL.
Happy Monday to everyone.

Tonya, which of the Golden Eagle excursions did you choose; morning or afternoon? I am sure you will be able to get Thursday brunch once we get onboard the ship, so I wouldn't fret about it.
I hope that everyone is having a great Monday....

Good Evening All you    heads,
Today was soooooooo rainy and we are suppose to get more tomorrow :sad2: :sad2: !!! last night Ds decided not to sleep again :sad2: !! It is really taking a toll on my and DH. We think we are going to start it on cereal this weekend and everybody told me that may help with the sleeping. I hope so :thumbsup2 !!1
Denise: Get Well Soon!! I hope your toe feels better :thumbsup2 .
Jeff: :welcome: Aboard!! You asked about decorations for the holidays. The boat has a huge Christmas tree in the lobby to take holiday pictures. I am going to do that with my DS!! They also make the Christmas cards on the ship and have them printed up by time our cruise is our. I looked on the boards and it's seems pirce is $30.00 to $40.00. I hope this was a help to you!!
Kathy: How is the Weather by you?? I hope everything is okay!!

Jeff and Family :welcome: I'm pretty new to this thread and I have to say so far things seem pretty normal :rotfl:
But seriously...everyone has been great!
I loved reading your cruise report and I'm so glad that things turned around for you. Your tips were great also.
Tonya - OMG- that banana is hysterical :rotfl:
OK, as a newcomer I have to ask...I totally get the Wild Turkey thing...but what's with the banana. I tried going back and reading a lot of the thread but I don't think I can get thru all of the pages!!!
Lynn - hang in there! DD-our first-was not a great sleeper either. She seemed to have this every other night pattern for waking up. Me and DH took turns - him one night me the next. Actually on a few occasions DD fell asleep on top of DH's belly - hey, whatever works! I was NOT a pleasant person during that time - I'll admit it. I think it was teething - both of our kids got their first tooth at 5 mos. and had ALL of their teeth before they were 2 years old. Have you tried whisky? Not for DS - for you and DH!!!!!!
Now I'm really excited about the cruise. Booking all the ressies has made me catch cruise fever I think - we can't wait!!!
Have a great night everyone!

Lynn,
our weather was beautiful today but by tomarow night that will change. We just dont know if it will just be lots of rain and wind gusts or worse!! Steve and his mom Pat live near me so whatever we get they will get too. If you dont hear from me on Wednesday morning it will be due to the storm. we often loose electricity even without hurricane strength winds, just tropical will make us loose it, so we will see what happens. I am well prepared either way.
Dh just finished pulling weeds in the yard. when he got by the center of the back fence Minnie went running up to him and was very upset. soon he uncovered 2 moldy chew sticks and 3 dead baby snakes she had killed and burried!!! She was very upset he found her stash of burried treasure!!!

Greetings to all. You have all been so welcoming, we couldn't help but book this cruise! Now all we have to do is get over the guilt of taking DD7 out of school for 4 days. She's always been fine with it but this year is second grade and they have already ramped up the homework.
So I guess I'm officially a wild turkey or a dancing banana. How will i know?
We did the booking but not without the usual drama that surrounds anything we do. Usually in November we have a short school break around Veterans Day when they have inservice days and we usually use our DVC points to go to the Beach Club. With our other cruise, we forgot to even try to get the booking. So today as we were saying "BCV or Cruise..." and leaning heavily toward cruise, I said, let me call just to check on availability as I'm sure they are sold out by now. Of course they were for both the early and late November dates. So I asked about banking my points.
I've never done this before and as a relatively new member of DVC I had NO idea of all the rules Shame on me for not paying attention, but the nice lady at DVC told me that I basically would lose 1/2 of my points since I missed our banking deadline. Huh, there's a banking deadline? Yes, I didn't have a clue.
So DW called back to see about using our points for the cruise (we don't have many but figured we could pay for a part of it). It worked out great that we were able to use points for the two DDs and pay cash for DW and I. "PHEW" didn't lose those points, thank goodness and got a nice break on cash outlay. Even kept our onboard credit and at least part of the 10 percent discount we got from booking on board, even though we had booked a 4-day and had to change it to 7.
Trying this one without a verandah (per my trip report that I thought it was unnececessary) but now that push has come to shove, I'm questioning myself. We're on Deck 2 in a Cat 9. Maybe Santa will send an early present and we'll get upgraded.
Now I have to go back and read 136 pages of posts (yikes you people have been busy). And I'll be getting our info to Shell as well.
I really can't believe we're doing this again so soon. But WOW it's fun to plan it this fast. Now I have to hope we can get some things reserved when the never-cruisers have their chance. We were lucky on this last cruise to get Palo (twice) just by booking on board and I got 2 massages the same way.
Woo hoo and I guess we are now:

:wave2: Good evening fellow turkeys and nana heads.....boy have you guys been busy today.
Got home late from work, then with dinner and that clean up. I cant belive its almots 8pm already. Well we were brave today and let both dogs out together all day. We have been locking my DD dog in his cage when we leave for work. She always had him locked up while she was out and no problems. Well we would come home, he had chewed up everything in there and had this mess we had to clean up. So since they seem to be getting along OK we figured we can trust them. :smooth: Well thankfully DH got home first...one of the dogs had diarrhea on my kitchen rug. And either the same or other dog vomitted on my carpeting in my hallway. So we had thoes messes to clean up... :sad2: crazy dogs....
My toe is ok today. It looks worse...three toes are black and blue but it dosnt hurt that much.
Well you guys have a good evening....

Welcome, Jd99! I enjoyed your trip report and will be thrilled to meet you and your family in person.
Those cakes are FAB, Shell & Mutt! The roses are awfully good for a beginner - but around here, you sure wouldn't need instructions. Researchers go through cake like locusts in a wheat field.
Raining again today, but that's ok - it's supposed to be nice for our trip later this week.

both cakes were great!!! :goodvibes With 2 cakes and two of you that is one each, RIGHT?? Sounds like a good deal to me!!! :thumbsup2
Wendy,
It looks like we will just have a gusty rainly day here now, so that is good. We really need the rain and 40 to 50 MPH gusts are no sweat to me. Been through that lots of times. ;)
Shell,
you can take Kycha off the cruise list. She just posted on our next years November cruise and said they had to cancel this one and rebook on that one. so they arent coming this time. :sad2:
jd99, so glad you made it official!!! :woohoo:

Good morning everyone! It has started off as a bad day. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the small town police officers on the drive in to work this morning. Apparently, my interpretation of one law about passing another car, and his interpretation were quite different. :moped: Then, he added insult to injury by saying that he would normally give a warning for this infraction, but they were being required to hand out tickets today! :furious: I was not a happy camper!
Jeff: Glad that you and your family are officially joining us on this cruise! I can't promise that you won't be sorry, but I can promise that you will have a good time!
Mutt & Shell: My birthday is 11/3, I will be expecting a cake delivered to my door. Great work!
Kathy & Steve: Stay safe down there. Hopefully this thing will peter out and just be a good rain for you guys!
Have a great Tuesday all! Mine can't do anything but get better!

Hey Bob....Birthday and anniversary in the same month?? Cool, just like me and Woo... Our anniversary is Sept. 14th and my birthday is the 15th (that way I NEVER EVER forget it). I'll talk over cake plans with Woo....shes the mastermind!
Wow....our lil group sure has grown over the past few weeks and months...this is gonna be so fun. I have my board at work with the countdown and it gets a look, a nod and a bit of jealous disgust from everyone besides me.
Anyways...have a great day everyone....less than 90 days to go....woohoo!

If you are in Ernesto's path you are in our thoughts. Let's hope it just drops some rain and leaves.
Nothing exciting going on here today. We are gearing up for school to start next Wednesday  :cheer2: :cool1: :Pinkbounc Can you tell my feelings on that :)

OMG LINDA! Wow! :cool1: OK, now I have to change plans for CC and squeeze in some "personal" time with Capt. Jack! Step aside, Mutt! (but I still love ya!).
Denise, those dogs are too cute :goodvibes !! They have to be so fun! You can tell from the photo that they are spoiled babies!
Wendy, I'm right there with you on the Brad Pitt/Interview/bad boy/long hair thing!! :thumbsup2 Although, I will admit that my true guilty pleasure is actually Naveen Andrews. I have his pics plastered in my office, his pic is the wallpaper on my cell phone ... *sigh* ... the most beautiful man on earth. Bill and I have a rock-solid deal when it comes to our guilty pleasures ... if Naveen Andrews comes to our door and wants to whisk me away, Bill is OK with it. Likewise, if Ann Curry does the same for Bill, I'll wave good-bye and miss Bill terribly (but hopefully she'll have Naveen with her)! :rotfl2:
Kathy: My cake came to work with me (it's about 3/4 gone now) and Bill's went to work with him. Believe it or not, you actually get to a point where you just don't even want to eat anymore!!! Plus Mutt and I are having a weight loss contest before the cruise and those cakes would've ruined it for one of us (or both of us)! BTW, I took Kycha off the list. I was thinking ... since you've been here so long and know the other folks on the list that are not regulars, maybe you could PM them and ask if they are still with us? :confused3 That way we know the list is good.
Jeff, can't wait to get your info and add you to the bunch!! And you are actually a Banana Head AND a Wild Turkey!!
Kelly: The banana thing. Well, there was a certain person (not to mention any names Mutt) here that had an uncontrollable fascination with the banana guy. Soon enough, everyone else just seemed to pick it up. :teeth:

Welcome aboard Lisa! :welcome:
I know that several of us are doing the Golden Eagle Catamaran on St. Martin (morning sailing).
Also, if you are having late dinner seating, call your travel agent or Disney (whoever you actually booked with) and request PLA dining rotation. This is the rotation that most of us with late seating are trying to obtain. One of our members (Lampskies) is even going to try and work some magic and get us all linked together so that we are sitting in close proximity to each other, if not at the same table. Of course, you may want to review some of the pictures he has posted on here before you agree to that!
Woogal is keeping a list of all those who are on the ship from here. If you would like to be included in her list, just send her a PM by clicking on her name and she can tell you what kind of information she is gathering. We promise that she won't ask you for your credit card or checking account...at least not at first (she has a shopping habit). :rotfl2:

Good Evening Fellow Nana Heads and Turkeys!
Lisa - Welcome!. We are a fun bunch (of banana heads). Glad you're cruising with us. It's just me and DH Dave and friends of ours, Bob and Gitta.
Our excursion plans so far are: Sunny Liston tour on St. Thomas. Dave and Bob are going on the AM fishing trip at St. Maarten.
Shell - Love your cake decorating. I'm very, very impressed. I'm creatively challenged and appreciate fine art!
Mutt - Your cake -- well, guess I could say that I'm glad I was sober when I saw the photo of it. Who knows what I'd say after a few BBCs..... Just kidding, love your cake decorating. You have nice handwriting......
Kelly - maybe we can order a custom cake of the day on board.
JD99 -- glad you and DW made the decision to cruise again. Forget the guilt! Just enjoy. We used DVC points for this cruise. We've been members since 2001. Itching to buy more points, but Dave wants to wait a while. We'll see. Maybe if I buy him a Mickey Watch in Treasure Ketch, I can woooo him to add on more points.
All Adults -- don't forget to attend the crew talent show the Friday night of our cruise. It's a must see.
Everyone -- I am so darn excited -- almost at the 80 day mark. Can't believe that September is almost here. It's about time; we planned our cruise so long ago. All I know is that I plan to have plenty of fun, lots of laughs and 24/7 pampering on board.

Tonya, (favoriteslave) is ordering matching T-shirts for all of us who are interested. we will be able to find each other easier that way.
I dont think she has sent in the order yet, so you might PM her if you are interested in the info on this.
Shell,
I do know what you mean when you say you dont want to eat cake after decorating a few. Years ago I took cake decorating classes too. After the first week of licking my fingers with frosting :stir: I never wanted decorators icing again!! But the kids loved it.
I will try to PM a few people from the first of this thread and see if they are still around. I will let you know if I hear back from them. ;)
Well if the weather man is correct we will just have lots of rain and a few gusts around 40 to 50 MPH tomarrow afternoon. That would be great!!!
I will let you know what happens,
Denise glad to hear your toe is better. It's amazing what a little shopping can do for a person. :rolleyes1

Good morning everyone,
well I have lots of clouds and a drizzly rain this morning, by this afternoon we should have hard rain and some small wind gusts of 40 MPH. We need the rain, so this will be a good thing for us.
Some areas may get 6 inches of rain, they may have a bad problem, so I will keep my fingers crossed for those people. My oldest son is in one of those areas, so hope things go well for him too.
Things are pretty quiet here today, I still need to find out what excursions we are going to do, we are so slow this cruise about making decisions. Guess we have gone so many times we just are more laid back about it.
well have a great day everyone and if we dont loose power this evening I will check back and see what everyone is doing today.

JD99, I take my son out. For the last three years he has missed school on or around his birthday (November 25). He was at Disneyworld the first year and last year he was on the cruise (lucky dog). He will be 10 this year on the first day of the cruise. (even more a lucky dog, he gets to go the oceaners club)
Don't feel bad, think about what you are allowing them to see and experience. Nothing that they see or do could they experience in a class room.

Lynn - he really is adorable! Can't wait to meet him in person - my DD too - she just looked at his picture and thinks he's "soooo cute" (her words)
Of course they make babies cute so we can't help but love them even though they keep us up all night long ;)
Jeff - we took DD(10) and DS(7) to Disneyworld for a week this past May/June. They missed 4 days of school. They will be missing a week for the cruise. DH used to feel differently about it than he does now. He used to be very against it but we've realized that we NEED quality family time together and it's just easier and more economical during the school year-when not everyone is taking vacation at the same time. My DH works Loooong hours during the week so these family vacations are the glue that holds us together. We wrote a note to their teachers in May and we will do the same thing again. We requested work for them to do and the teachers were great about it. We will do the same this time. DS will be in 2nd and DD will be in 6th. Once they reach high school it will be a bit harder - but we'll deal with that when the time comes. SOOOOO in answer to your question - no, I don't think you're bad parents (because then I would be one too :)
It's cloudy and drizzling here today...just like yesterday...just like Monday...this is starting to get old. I think it's going to be this way the rest of the week. I hope everyone in Ernesto's path stays safe.
Kathy - I hope everything goes ok for your son.

Jeff, we are taking my DS 12 out of school we do each year but since he starts high school next year this is our last year doing so.
don't feel guilty there will be lots of bad parents on board :rotfl2:
Wendy
I was being a little facetious about the "bad parent" thing since I have taken DD out every year of school she has had so far. In K, we took her out a full week because we forgot - yep just forgot that we should probably take school into account when planning a vacation. As she was our first, we honestly didn't think about it until after she started school. But it was no biggie. Last year during first grade, she was out 2 1/2 days in the fall and 2 in the spring for two different vacations.
I agree completely that these trips are the glue for families. I own my own business and my wife works part time. DD8 is constantly on the go and DD2 1/2 will be soon. We travel 3-4 times a year. Some people collect antiques, some people gamble, some people save every penny for a retirement that may or may not ever come. We try to strike a good balance between planning for our future and having our fun now. I think we do a pretty good job of it. :sunny:
Now back to my original question - any 8 or 9 year old girls going? My DD8 is very social but sometimes shy in these kinds of "club" settings but will make fast friends with someone at the water slide line. Love to know that she may get a chance to make friends with someone who she will then see in the Oceaneer's Lab later in the week.

We also totally forgot DS would be in school when we booked this cruise. But...it is only JK, and in general I don't have a problem with taking kids out of school. He will actually be missing a full week and 2 days so we are really making a dent. Oh well....you only live once. It is WAY more economical too - and I really have no desire to travel to WDW in the summer with everyone else and their brother in the 120 degree weather
Jan - thanks ALOT for that info.....that's the kind of stuff I get excited about. Oh how lame my life is :rotfl:

Ooooh....tough situation, Steve. Money is always a dangerous issue. You have been married long enough to have a DS9, so you should have learned by now! :sad2: Is there a birthday (either her or you) or anniversary that you can claim the camera as a gift for you or her? The other alternative is to claim it is a cruise expense because you want to be able to capture all of the wonderful moments the family will be having. It isn't a gift for you, it is a gift for the whole family. (no comments from the ladies)
Other than that, you are pretty much going to have to use the quid pro quo approach and offer to let her buy something of a similar cost. Worst case scenario, you learn to use a different shipping address and keep it hidden until a "light" moment! :teeth:

We are taking DD5 out of kindertgarten for a week (I hadn't even thought about school when we booked.). DSS15 is booked for the cruise (he doesn't know it yet.) -- he just thinks his little sister is  when she talks about a Disney cruise!
We're actually waiting to see if he makes the freshman basketball team. Not that our priorities revolve around sports, but we'd hate to have him spend the season on the bench for missing a few days of practice. :sad2: (We'd also hate to see him "blow off" tryouts because of the cruise!) :ssst: ! Add us to the "really bad parent" list -- we're more worried about sports than academics! :lmao:
Runa -- glad to hear you're o.k. Hope the claim situation goes pretty smoothly.
Lynn -- keep those cute pictures coming! Can't wait to see him in person. :thumbsup2
Denise -- Happy Birthday, early! :bday: I turn 21 again on the 5th, so we can both pretend the long weekend is a party: :drinking1 for us!
Steve, I know you said -- "No Girls Allowed" -- but. . .in this situation, my DH would tell me I could go order/buy something that I really needed, too. (You better get ready to cough up some cash! :rotfl2: ) Good Luck!
Glad to hear Ernesto isn't doing too much in FL. Hopefully he doesn't regain strength.
Have a great night! :grouphug:

Steve,
here is a quote from my DH when he heard your delima:
I would tell my wife exactly what I did and if she didnt like it, she could lump it!!! Then when I regained consciousness with a lump on my head I would appologise and promise NEVER to do it again, at least until the next time??? :confused3
This is from a man who has been married 33 years and managed to survive several similar situations over the years, but just barely. :rotfl2:

Wendy - I'm not sure who the lucky one will be - don't forget I have a 2 1/2 year old traveling with me and she is VERY tempremental. So consider this a permanent "sorry" for any early morning yelling you hear coming from her dainty little voice. :rockband:

Let me chime in here. Tell her the story of what just happened to me. My digital camera was downloading my pix to my computer (from my recently completed Western cruise) when it burped and all the pix disappeared. Honest. I was sick. I have sent the memory card out to a data retrieval firm and if they find em I have to cough up as much money as the camera cost. If they don't I pay zero but I lose some GREAT pix and GREAT memories that I am not willing to part with. So...your new purchase is just to head off anything terrible like this ever happening.

By the way, I need some help. My digital camera arrived today that my wife didn't know I ordered! Mutt, TiggerKing, any GUYS out there got some helpful advice?
Women need not apply, this is strictly damage control.
If this gives you any indication of how my wife is, they call her the Angry Cuban at work.
Steve
OK, first off....'The Angry Cuban' made me snort :rotfl: :rotfl: I need to meet this woman :teeth:
Secondly - you post on a co-ed board specifically asking women NOT to comment - no wonder you are in this dillemma. Steve, Steve, Steve you need some serious learnin' my friend. As soon as you tell a woman she can't do something what exactly do you think is going to happen. It just so happends Woo beat me to the punch! :stir: In all likelyhood your oh-so-innocent DW is at work reading the DIS and thinking ways to toast your frijoles when she gets home for even posting such a request! :badpc: Now, remind her who wears the pants in your family (hint:HER ) and beg for forgiveness. I will be eagerly popcorn:: awaiting the outcome of this little discussion :rolleyes1 .

Good Morning everyone,
Well I am sure Steve and Pat will agree ,we got very little from Ernesto.
We had some rain, but no wind or lightning. It was kind of disappointing, I was hoping for a little more rain, Oh well, it is early in the season for storms.
Of course at Steves house there may of been some fall out from hurricane Esther?? He hasnt reported in yet!!
Pretty quiet around here today.
I will check back later to see if anybody has some exciting news to share!!
Runa, glad your ok.

Hi 3 Turners!!!!!!!! Welcome to our little group
Great pics Kathy! So, silly question - in the pic with your daughter and grandkids - are those her kids then?? She hardly looks old enough to have kiddos - the granddaughter and her could be sisters. Your Cpt. Jack looks a little emaciated....perhaps not enough Grog to go around? pirate:
Glad to hear everyone is well.
Dandy8 - if you have a pic pls post or send to woo - I would love Dutch to be able to see Jared before we meet either on the ship or at the Residence.
BTW - Dandy8 and fam and the Smiths (that's us :teeth: ) are staying at the Residence the night before the cruise (we'll actually be there the Thurs and Fri night but you'all will likely be enjoying your turkey and stuffing and whatever other weirdo things you Southern folk throw in there at Thanksgiving. Think of us as we try and find a Chinese restaurant or something LOL. Anyway.....is anyone else staying over the night before at the Residence or in Cocoa Beach? Maybe we could get together for a drink or bite to eat on the Friday night? I think I remember one other person considering the Residence and I think a few a the Radisson??
Time is really :hourglass which is great, but I still feel I have to figure out clothes, costumes etc etc. With DS starting school I am feeling a little frazzled....this is the first time I have ever had to pack a lunch for gosh sakes!! And with no peanut butter sandwiches these days I am at a bit of a loss. My lunch for approx. 8 years consisted of PB, 2 cookies and an apple. I'm been trying to pry out of DS what he likes to eat, but he changes his mind every 2 seconds. Oh well, I suppose if he is hungry enough he will eat what is given LOL.
Talk to everyone soon!

I've got a question for you guys about snorkeling. We've signed up for our first ever snorkeling trip. We'll be going to Trunk Bay at St. John. I googled the internet and I have to say the place looks AMAZING! I can't wait to see it. Anyway..since we've never snorkeled we don't have any gear. I know they provide it as part of the excursion, but should we consider bringing anything of our own? Has anyone had any experience with rented snorkel equipment?

I know they provide it as part of the excursion, but should we consider bringing anything of our own? Has anyone had any experience with rented snorkel equipment?
Kelly, there are two pieces of advice I can give you about snorkeling equipment on these excursions.
1) The only real complaint I have ever had is that one I used in Puerto Rico, the fins were very small, so I had to work a LOT harder than I do when I use my own equipment. This just means you may tire out a little bit quicker because you will have to work a little harder to move through the water.
2) Several people on the DIS don't like the idea of using a snorkel that has been in someone else's mouth. I trust that the companies used by DCL adequately clean their equipment before the next use. The company I used in Puerto Rico actually gave you a new (inexpensive) snorkel and allowed you to keep it when the trip was over.
If you have the resources to be able to purchase your own sets of equipment, that would be great (most places are closing them out right now), as long as you don't buy the $9 set at Wal-Mart. This is one area where you get what you pay for (this is the opinion of someone who has been a certified diver for over 25 years). But, you should be perfectly fine with the tour operator's equipment as well. DW and I will be brining our own equipment (once we buy her stuff), but since we don't have to fly, we don't quite deal with the same weight and space issues as most of youse guys (See Mutt, I can talk northern) :rotfl2: .
I just wanted to be sure you saw both sides (no offense intended, Mutt).

Just curious. Am I the only bad parent taking my kid out of school for this cruise or are there others like me :rotfl: Any 8 year old girls by chance????
Taking a child to explore new places, experience different cultures on the islands, meet people from all over the world? Miss 4 days of spelling words and math facts? Count me in as a bad parent too!
Our daughter, Meredith, turns 8 on October 29th. She'd love a friend to see in the clubs and around the ship!

Hi 3 Turners!!!!!!!! Welcome to our little group
Us Four Foxes are also at the Residence Inn the night before. Drinks and/or food always sound good to us! But, not sure what time we'll roll in....

I'll chime in about the snorkel equipment. We went on excursion in Mexico and they provided the snorkel, fins and goggles. The equipment they provided was clean and neat, just a little old. I myself went and got all the equipment from a local scuba store. They made sure it fit correctly, that I knew how to use it and also let me come to their indoor pool and practice. So if you want to feel totally at ease in the water (which is really important), bring you own stuff. They sale backpacks that carry one set of fins, goggles and snorkel so that you can carry all of 'your' equipment with you. Remember this is just my humble opinion.
PLUS, an added bonus, when you have your own stuff you are more easily recognizable under water. I had yellow fins and when we would all go out, I was the only one with yellow fins and my Husband and child always knew where I was.
Have a great Friday everyone, we are headed to TenKiller this weekend where they have a snorkeling/scuba dive site. Should be interesting.

OK, so what's everyone doing on St. Thomas?
I've been to St. John in the past and want to take the family over there as it is so beautiful. We are always "do it on our own-ers" but I am not comfortable with the ferry schedule so we want to schedule an excursion. Anyone have any experience with the Disney excursions? They all seem to be in the same price range.
I haven't thought about St. Maarten yet but, due to the kiddies, have ruled out Orient Beach. DH was there back in his single days and said there is a part of the beach that family can go to but it's not guaranteed that you won't see a topless sunbather. We'd rather not have "that talk" with DS while on the boat! Anyone thinking of a Duck Tour?

The only downside on bringing your own snorkeling equipment is the weight. Some of the airlines only allow 50 pounds and those fins are heavy. Remember, all of your liquids have to be checked, not carried on, so planning your weight will be important.

Mornin' every one.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend. My wife's oldest daughter is getting married tomorrow (I'm my wife's second marriage, and of course, the ex's whole family is going to be there) so I'm at like DEFCON 4. The camera thing was a minor lapse in judgement, but I have learned to mind my own business and keep my mouth shut. But hey, at least I can take pictures for Esther, right?
Kathy- know what you mean about the ants, my neighbor and I keep running them back and forth between our yards, you just can't get rid of those things.
In regards to the snorkle gear. Wife and I went to Grand Cayman for our honeymoon and snorkled at a shipwreck. We did not bring our own stuff, and when we got on the boat to go out they reached into a bucket and started handing the gear out. I don't know if there was cleaning solution in the bucket or not and that was enough for me...I'm bringing my own!

Hey Steve, you DESERVE the camera as a reward for what you have to go through this weekend! :thumbsup2
I have to tell you a story about fire ants. I did the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia in 1997. One of the people I ended up riding with was an educator from Kansas. So, two other guys and myself set out to teach him about all things Georgia. We explained to him about the gnat line. Of course, he didn't believe that until we crossed it. But, we got a kick out of the fact that when we introduced him to fire ants, this 40+ year old man sat there with a stick playing in the mound like a 4 year old! We cracked up! :rotfl2:
Well, I am actually going to be able to leave the office early today. I have the Mustang with me, and the top is down for the drive home!

Dandy8 - if you have a pic pls post or send to woo - I would love Dutch to be able to see Jared before we meet either on the ship or at the Residence.
DutchsMommy, I will send to Woogal soon.....I'm still going through photos to find one of the 4 of us. It's me & the kids, Andy & the Kids, the kids by themselves......I didn't realize that we tend to neglect the family photo. Turns out we're probably going to get to the residence around 8:00pm the night before the cruise (we land in orlando at 6:30). Unfortunately I was using award tickets on southwest and they didn't give me much of a choice on flights for that day so we got stuck with a 3:30pm flight. Hopefully we can meet and say hello that evening.
What time is the best time to get to the ship the morning of the cruise?

Ok, Ok ... I'll be the one that asks ... what the heck is a gnat line and what's the deal with playing with fire ants with a stick? :confused3
Well my sleep was interrupted last night, and I guarantee that none of you will ever have this experience! As you know, we live in Akron, Ohio. At about midnight last night, I was sound asleep, but was actually awaken by a very loud humming ... it only took me a few minutes to ID the sound without getting out of bed. The Goodyear blimp was coming back from the Browns game and it sounded like it was about 4 feet above my *&#$& house!! :sad2:
Steve, you have no excuse now to not get me those photos for the list. Get to it!
Jamie, we're doing an non-Disney island tour on St. Thomas that includes shopping and beach time.

Danielle,
we try to arrive at 10 when the port opens. ;) We like to get an early boarding pass so we can get on the ship right away!!! we want every minute we paid for !!! I am a greedy person.
After you check in they do have lots of seats and small TV screens with cartoons playing for the kids to watch :happytv: and the big kids like me. :rotfl2:
There is a small obervation deck you can stand out on and look at the ship. It is a nice picture spot. there is a cut away model of the ship to view too.
many come later around noon, but we like to get on and have lunch, explore the ship some, and check out our room at 1:30, which is when they let you go to your room. We want every minute we can get on the ship. :Pinkbounc

Well it is a beautiful sunny day here in the Chicagoland area.....although today is supposed to be the best day out of the weekend, so I better take advantage of it today.
Question on passports. Our local post office is holding a passport fair. I know I have read where it is taking 3-5 months to get passports back. However, for an extra fee of 60.00 they will expedite them. My question, do they take and send the original birth certificate along or do you keep the birth certificate? :confused3 I don't want to give it up then have nothing when we cruise. We are in the "thinking" stages of this. I tend to lean toward, we dont need it now, so wait until we get back then go and apply.
Well have a great day everyone, I have to get some work done now.

Hey Denise....I'm not sure if my experience was typical or not. I got my passport in April of this year and they told me they needed my actual birth certificate. As far as the timeframe, I opted out of the extra expediacy charge... my passport came in a little over 3 weeks... I was amazed that they did it so quickly. The only thing I did to make the ordeal go a little quicker was getting my photos before hand at Wal-greens. That speeded things along and it was cheaper than having the gov't folks do it. I do know that the requests for passports have gone up significantly since it will be manditory to have them to travel in the near future so maybe you'd want to consider trying to speed up the process. I guess that would be your call. Hope I helped ya out.

Good Morning from soggy/wet and windy New Jersey :sunny: Ernesto is packing a ton of rain and wind and we are in the midst of it right now. DD and I are supposed to be heading out to an all day outdoor Christian youth event right now - NOT! I'm hoping the weather improves as the day goes on but right now it's not looking promising. I'm trying to look at the positive side and I'm thinking we can get a ton of stuff done around the house today (now I just have to convince DH of that :rotfl: )
How's everyone else doing?
Dutchsmommy - we are DVC members at the Beach Club Resort and also at Saratoga Springs and we love it. We've only been members since 2003 - with our first stay using our DVC in 2004. We like the flexibility of the points system - for instance..we stayed for 8 days at the Beach Club back in May/June and we are going to use a night before and after the cruise at Saratoga Springs in Nov.
If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me and I will be happy to share whatever info I can. Not that I'm biased or anything, but I would recommend it!

Basically in a nutshell the DVC works on a points basic. You buy "points" at a resort and you use those pts to purchase your stay. The amount of pts you need per stay depends on the time of year you are traveling...busy season costs more pts...less busy, less pts... and also the type of accomodations you are looking for - studio, 1 Bdrm, 2 Bdrm. The newer resorts costs more to stay at than the older resorts. If you purchase thru Disney you will be buying points at Saratoga Springs Resort - the newest resort. Disney is not a lifetime membership - again the different resorts are for a different length of years. I think when we purchased the Beach Club is was for 39 years, but Saratoga Springs is ours for I think 50 years.
Please feel free to PM me if you have specific questions you would like answered.

Denise,
I checked with DCL and you don't need Passports for our cruise. As of 2006 you needed it for Mexico and Canada. As of 2007 you need it for to go anywhere. To help you feel better my sister when you Mexico for Spring break and got a Passport and got her BC back. It took 4 months to come after giving it on at the Post Office. All you need for our cruise is your BC and Photo ID. Hope this helps!! I looked into back in April.

We are also DVC at the Beach Club. We even used some of our points (that we were about to lose because I messed up on "banking" them for next year) for part of this cruise and it brought the cost down a good deal. We generally do a week at BCV in the Fall but this year we are going on the cruise instead, thus the banking. We bought a resale from one of the Timeshare resellers (but not the one that is promoted on the boards) Had a very good experience . It was quite easy.

Happy Labor Day To all you   ,
Happy Labor Day!! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. We went to a BBQ yesterday and today we are getting stuff together for the cruise. We went to Babies R US to get DS formula and diapers and ofcourse I saw very cute outfits that I had to get. In Babies R Us they had travel size shampoo and lotion so we bought it for DS for the cruise!! Well I am off to do DS wash :laundy: :laundy: :laundy: and then Walmart to get afew things. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!!
J&C Mom and family: :welcome: Aboard :welcome:

:welcome: J&C's Mom to our merry family of Banana Head misfits!   Don't listen to anything my DH (Mutt) says ... I never do!! :rolleyes1
Well it has been a lousy weather weekend here! Cold, overcast and drizzly. :sad2: Very unusual for us this time of year. I feel bad for LindaBabe and Bruce who are here in Ohio this weekend. Certainly isn't the kind of 1st impression I'd like to give of where we live!! Kathy, please send some :sunny: up here, if you would!
Renee: Sounds interesting ... can you post some more details on your ideas for secret nana/turkey?
I sent a PM to Lisalisa and J&C's Mom about the cruisemate list ... and I finally got Danielle & Andy's pic :cheer2: !!! We still need STEVE's pics, which should be easy to get now that he has a new camera! Will update the list tomorrow at work and e-mail it out.
My pirate costume is about 95% complete, and Friday night I got my cocktail dress for semi-formal night (god bless JC Penney's and their ultra-last-chance-clearance-rack!!!) :teeth: Denise, I'm right there with you about the fun part is all the planning and checking your outfits. I'm confirming my jewelry picks for each outfit, too! :thumbsup2
Talk to you all later ... have a great day!

:welcome: J&C's Mom. Glad to have you aboard with us!
Denise: The official DIS meet is going to be at 3:00, but no location has been decided. The "unofficial" DIS meet I believe has been arranged at Signals at 1:01. :drinking1
Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day! DW and I worked our tails off on Sat., so we did a whole bunch of nothing yesterday. Heck, we barely got up enough energy to go out and buy food for the animals! :dog2: :cat: :fish: Today we are going to go out and do a little bit of shopping for stuff and food. I am making New Orleans BBQ shrimp for dinner tonight, :stir: and then we will sit around and watch some college football! :cheer2:
Have a great day everyone!

Ya, I was wondering the same thing, where and when are we going to have a meet for all of us, including the kids!! I get dibs on hugging Our newest little cruiser :cloud9: first, ( with Lynn's permission). :goodvibes
Lets hear a few ideas from everyone about meeting. :confused3
I'm sure we are all open to ideas on the subject. ;)
I will put my two cents worth in from my past cruises.
what worked best for our cruises was meeting the first day at 3 p.m. in the Promenade lounge.
Here is why we decided on it there.
1. First day: People are not involved in activities yet, accept checking into the clubs and nursery.
2. 3:00 P.M. : People should be on board by now and had time to check out their rooms, kids clubs, had lunch and we had a hour before the safety drill to chat. Later everyone is busy with activities on board. :Pinkbounc
3. Promenade Lounge: It was air conditioned, no activities in there yet, so we had the entire lounge to ourselves, lots of table and chairs to get comfy, plenty of room for the kids to move around and get aquainted without being in the way of other guests trying to get around the decks, bar available for those who want a drink, easy location for even first time cruisers to find, no loud outside noise to make it hard to have a conversation with each other.
That is my 2 cents worth of experiences. :rolleyes1
Ok, now you guys speak up with your experiences so we can make some definate plans to meet. I know some of you adults are having a meet at one of the bars too, but this is a family meet that we are suggesting for now,
so speak up, lets hear from you guys!!! This meet is for all of us. :grouphug:
Leta get some ideas floating around and make a decision soon, :thumbsup2

Hey Kathy ... since you are the most experienced DCLer by far, do you think if you contacted DCL/Castaway Club they would help us organize something and perhaps give us a specific area of the ship to meet?

i got a few takers on the secret turkey....i was thinking that we leave small gifts or notes for one another at their staterooms for the week and then at the end at our last cruise meet perhaps we reveal ourselves. we could all decide on a price limit for sure. or also we could just get one gift and give that the first time we meet although i dont htink that would be quite as fun! if anyone has any other ideas let me know! thanks!

:) Good Monday morning. Well its raining. So this is supposed to be all day rain and into tomorrow. Yuk....
Lynn the toe is getting better. Still hurts but I can walk much better.
Now I know this is my first time cruising. We will be wearing our T-shirsts on saturday correct? So if you really think about it, wont our first meet up be at the terminal? :confused3 But I actually agree with Kathy, I think 3pm at the Promenade should work very well. We can sit and chat in a relaxed area. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Runa: It does sound interesting but a little more info would be helpful.
I have to also admit I am not making nor bringing any pirate outfits pirate: . I have no talent on making anything and I am one not to really getting dressed in costume. sorry.....I know party pooper!!!! :sad2:
One more questions and I know that this has been answered about a week or so ago....at what time do I make my reservations? I am central time...so what time do I need to be on the boards?

It's a rainy day here in Northern IL. We had pretty decent weather Saturday & Sunday, so I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
I ran a 5k (3.1 mi.) race in Rockford on Saturday. They gave money to the top 3 male and female finishers. I was fourth. :furious: Could've used some $$$$ for the cruise. Now we're spending the rest of weekend catching up on household projects.
Kathy -- I like your idea about a 3:00 meeting in the Promenade Lounge. :thumbsup2 Count us in!

I think meeting at 3:00 at the Promenade Lounge sounds great also. DH was reading posts with me and he thought that made a lot of sense too. However, we plan to be a part of the ADULT meet if the kids are at the club :drinking1
Runa - secret Turkey/Santa thing sounds fun. My only question is how safe is it to leave things outside of staterooms without having them taken? Maybe you could search the boards and see how others have done it.
We have another beautiful sunny day here in NJ. DH and I are going for a bike ride shortly and then a bar-b-cue today at the in-laws.
Have a great Labor Day everyone.

Welcome J&C's mom - another PA cruiser! I love it! We're from Lanc. Co.
Count us Foxes in for the 3:00 DISmeet at Promenade.
I think the threat of having things taken is a problem (Secret Banana). On our last cruise, we had someone take all of our Disney clingies that we have stuck on our door. I'd be afraid to leave anything outside. :confused3
I HAVE OFFICIALLY STARTED TO PACK!!! I know it's a little early but we have a very old house (1894) without a lot of closet space. So, we do the up and down to the attic with each seasonal clothes change. Today, I was taking many of the kids' shorts/tee shirts to the attic and just threw all of their Disney stuff on THE pile. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes :Pinkbounc
We've decided to visit a park once we get off the boat but can't decide between MK and Epcot. MK is open until 11 and Epcot until 9:30. I know MK is always busier on Saturdays but do you think it will be that crazy that time of the year? What's everyone else doing (the ones that aren't flying home on Saturday?)
Thanks (think it was Tigger) for posting the docking info. for St. Thomas. It looks like "Anchorage" means we dock in Charlotte Amalie rather than Haverwhatever. That should put us closer to the ferry for St. John so we might just do it on our own. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to catch the 9 o'clock ferry and thought the next one at 11 would just be too late to bother. I guess I'll have to play around at cruisecritic.com and read up on Anchorage at Charlotte Amalie.
Hope everyone has a nice holiday. We're "putzing" around the house, gearing up for a crazy week. DH has to travel to NY, I have to fill in at work for another employee who is on vacation to Scotland and we have a wedding rehearsal on Thursday/wedding on Friday. DH is the officiant so it's just a little hectic.
Can't wait for Saturday to watch the ND/Penn State game. Go IRISH! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey, I'm in for whatever the group decides on the meet-up on Saturday.
OK, I have a question for those of you in my "age range", i.e. those of us that were teenagers in the 80s. Def Leppard ... yes THE Def Leppard ... is coming on the 12th to perform a concert at our local concert pavilion :cool2: . Now, I say, we HAVE to go and see them. Mutt says ... uh, no, I'm sure I can find something better to do that night! C'mon gang, don't you agree that this is a mandatory night out?! Wendy? Bob? ... Bueller? Anyone? Anyone? :confused3 POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME! :rockband:

Jamie, your right MK is the busiest on saturdays, however the time after thanksgiving and before Christmas is not very busy at the parks. It is actually one of the slower times of the year. Mostly locals will be there. If you use the fast pass system you should be ok at MK.
Shell,
Yes, Go to the concert!!! :rockband: We go to every "OLDIE" concert we can!!!
As old as some of the musicians are, they may not be around if you wait another year!!! :rotfl2: Just kidding, but their voices could go in another year. Just trying to give you some reasons to go NOW!!!

Today we actually took out the suitcases for the cruise :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: !! I was very ecxited ;) ;) !! Kathy, 3 o'clock sounds really good to us too. I wanted to get DS feed and down for a nap when we board so 3 works for me!! It will just be a rush to make it to Singals at 1:01 pm.
Kathy: Ofcourse you have my permission to hold DS :cloud9: :cloud9: .
Denise: Glad the toe is better!! I don't have a pirate outfit either so don't feel so bad :thumbsup2 !!
Runa00: Great Idea with the Secret Santa :santa: :santa: !! I think leaving outside the stateroom is a great idea and I don't think someone would take it. This is want we did at my job for Secret santa. The first 5 days were little gifts like lottery scatch-off and candy etc. The big gift was a limit of 15.00. It's an idea for you!! I hope it works..

Shell: Tell Mutt this is one area I won't side with him on. One of the first 2 cd's I put int he convertible was Pyromania! :rockband: I would be there in a heartbeat, given the opportunity!
Runa: The secret Santa/Nana sounds like a great idea. I have seen several threads where cruisers used the 2 or 3 pocket holders (they called them fish something because they hung on the fish outside the cabin) and they would leave cards and little gifts for fellow cruisers. Since we are cruising during school, I honestly don't believe we will have as much of an issue with kids running wild on the ship. Maybe Ron and others who have cruised during this time can comment.
Those Packing Already: You crack me up! :lmao: I will probably pack on Thursday night after we finish dinner with DW's family. It will take about 20 minutes. Of course, I don't like buying clothes, so I don't have a lot. If I packed now, I would be in dire straits for stuff to wear to work!

Steve....they WERE on VH1 Inside the music....has-beens. And I had a friend with three fingers....couldn't even give me a ^5--one armed drummer??? Gimme a break.
Wendy....you're one of the few that has a lil influence over me (southern drawl and all...)---but NOT THIS TIME. Tell dh to pack and get to ohio for the show.
Kathy...the old coots have survived since the late 70's,....I dont think they're going ANYWHERE! They're like styrofoam cups....they just don't go away!
Bob...oh, Bob...why hast thou forsaken me....dear friend. I'd sooner go see a panther thats not hearing-impared. If someone could just give me one REAL reason to go....I mean, I wouldn't mind going if just to scope out some of the groupie chicks but most of them have walkers or can't sit close to the electronics because their hearing aids and pacemakers would get fouled up.
I hate shar-pei spandex!!
Wendy...the doghouse thing may be in full effect by morning...e-mail me and I'll give you directions for your hubby.
Doghouse again? Sleeping with Guido again? I always wake up with straw in my butt....phooey...its gonna be a long dark evening.

we're in for the 3 p.m. meet. That was the exact time and place on our August cruise...though we missed it (we were early then had to cut out and never made it back). Now that we have a clue about that first day craziness on the ship, we can set our priorities accordingly and DEFINITELY make the meet. I think I joined the thread too late to hear about the adult meet. Not sure when it is...but you can probably count me in - if DD2 is not in Flounders, you get me or DW (or we can take turns) but not both at once.

Good day to all :wave2:
Raining cats and dogs here in PA this morning.
Fourfoxesinpa: we are from Chester County-about 8-10 miles from the Lancaster county boarder-near Gap, PA Is that close to you??
Gonna try and stay warm-and stay on my diet!
Okie :)
Greetings everyone.
Another cold gray day here in Pittsburgh. Ready for some Magic. Busy week of work ahead - I am an independent PR consultant/writer and have a bunch of clients on fire right now! Also am making a final decision on a new car - as early as today - as my lease is up and it's time to make a change. I always go into this process thinking it's fun and wind up being happy it's over. A couple of choices to sort through today and then it's new car time..and it's over.
A cruise question for those who have done Eastern b4 - How painful is the early morning St. Thomas stop, especially for those of us who have little kids. How does it work? Does everyone gather in one place? Do they go stateroom to stateroom? Are you divided up as in the tender process and go to one of several spots on the ship? Also, I've read conflicting things about the time of it - everything from 5:30 a.m.(Eeek) to 7 a.m. (not so bad). When does it really occur? TIA and Happy Tuesday that feels like Monday!

Now I am starting to get a little nervous about this trip. I really need to know when karaoke night is. If you guys are gonna be singing love songs, I soooo what to be there......!!!! :lmao: :rotfl2:
Well have a good day and I will check in after I get home....lets keep these pages turning...remember 3000 by our cruise.

Greetings everyone.
TIA and Happy Tuesday that feels like Monday!
jeff
I am interested in this too.......I thought I read somewhere that it is the morning after pirate night (late night).

Jeff, I can answer part of your question. Based on what I have read on trip reports, everyone gathers at the theater. The Customs Officials will essentially go row by row and look at everyone's information, and then you are free to leave. It does occur REALLY early, as soon as the ship docks. No one is allowed to go ashore until the entire ship has been cleared. For those with early excursions, they will be cleared first. You can go in your pajamas (and many do).
And Dandy, it IS the morning after Pirate Night!

Happy Tuesday morning!!
We had a great long weekend! It was nice having an extra day, we took total advantage and did NOTHING!! It was awesome!!
Sunday morning I got up early and made my palo ressies for cruise week 2.
I was able to get high tea, so DH is happy :thumbsup2
I think a 3pm Dis-Meet in the promenade lounge is a great plan.
We met there on our last cruise and it worked really well. everyone should be on board, have eaten lunch and had a little time to unpack and unwind...
DH and I watched the DCL special on the travel channel.... (for like the 10th time!) I wish they would update it, but its still fun to watch!

Is this a one shot deal, another words, if you ain't there, you ain't goin, or is it something that occurs throughout the day. I probably have the same dilema as Jeff, a 9 year old, a 25 month old and a 10 month old.
Also, what paperwork do they look at, the same stuff you need to get on the boat, birth certificates, DL's?
This process does not sound fun.

Steve: It is a one shot deal, but not in the way you are thinking. NO ONE is allowed to leave the ship until EVERYONE has cleared customs. From what I understand, other than the getting up early part, it is a pretty painless process. You just show passports or birth certificates.
Hopefully, Kathy will chime in with a little more information soon.

OK, I thought that was true about no one leaving the ship until everyone was cleared, but what threw me was why they let excursion people go first, if everyone has to be cleared what difference does it make the order that they are cleared? That's more of a rhetorical question, I was just confused as to how it's done.
Thanks,

Sorry to tell you sleepy heads that when we went last month it all started at 6:30 a.m. On a previous cruise it was 6:00 a.m.
If you have a morning excursion, you will be the ones to report to the WD theater first. Your entire cabin must be present, with photo ID and birth certificates or passports, people from outside the US go to one of the clubs, dont remember which one. They have a CM that will be at the end of the rows and will tell you when to get up and walk down by the stage and show your stuff to the custom agents. Sometimes they will ask you a question about where you were born or your birthdate. Then you are off!!
it really is very quick once they get started, unless someone doesnt bring their documents with them, that brings everything to a dead stand still.
They will have coffee, juice and a few pastries near the entrance to the theater for you if you want , which is nice and you will be checked in as you enter the theater. Nobody will be allowed off the hsip until ALL rooms have been accounted for. They will stamp your hand too and if you dont have a hand stamp, you wont be let off the ship, so you cant sneak off if you dont go through customs, you wont get off the ship!!!
YES, it is after Pirate night, bad move on DCL's part in my opinion.
If your still confused just PM me and I will try to make it a little more clear for you.

Thanks Kathy. So, we go down there at 6:30, get "checked in", they dismiss us all once everyone is accounted for ... and then we can do whatever we want until we choose to leave the ship, correct?
Also, when we get on the ship, will there be a problem with sending formal wear to get pressed in time to get back the next evening for dinner? I asked Mom if she wouldn't just mind too much ironing all of our stuff before they take us to port. Apparently, she WOULD mind ... :duck:

Hi Banana Head/Wild Turkeys! You have all been busy these past few days posting. I was in the Detroit area spending time with my 17 month old GD and Alyssa, my goddaughter who has Down syndrome. (By the way, she has cruised on the Wonder twice!)
First of all, WELCOME 3Turners and J&C's Mom. We're looking forward to meeting you. It's me, DH Dave, friends Bob and Gitta.
Kathy: Love the pics of you and your family.
Anyone staying at SSR the night before the cruise? Or somewhere close by? Perhaps we can plan a meet Friday afternoon/evening or Saturday morning before we leave for port. Let me know.
Ok, what's the "other board"? Cruise critic? Just curious!!!
I purchased Pirate shirts through disneystore.com for the 4 of us. That's about all of our costume, in addition to the bandanas given to us at dinner.
Shell -- I can't remember -- Are you and Mutt taking a tour with Godfrey or Sunny Liston? We're touring with Sunny with a 9am pick up at the ship. We toured with him last year and had a lot of fun.
Besides all the good stuff other possters have mentioned at the port, there are characters at port. I've seen Chip and Dale, Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse. I've got a great pic of Alyssa and Minnie Mouse taken at the port.
Dutchsmommy and U2Pixies - we are DVC owners. We first bought 180 points at Hilton Head in 2001, then an additional 100 points at SSR in 2004. We plan to buy more in a couple of years. One reason we bought DVC is that we can deed the points to our kids. Potentially, our great-grandkids can vacation with the points we bought. My kids think that's a great inheritance. On board, DVC reps will be hosting an informational meeting and meet one-on-one. Plus, they will offer incentives. It's worth the time to attend. My DH can tell you in about 10 minutes why DVC is so great. We've referred lots of cruisers to DVC. No incentive for us, but it's a great vacation tool.
I'm all for meeting at the Promenade Lounge at 3pm for the same reasons Kathy posted. I've met there for 3 cruises now and it works out real well for all.
RunaOO -- Your Secret Santa idea sounds interesting. DIS friends of ours will be on the 11 day Wonder and they are doing a secret cruiser.
Jeff -- Everyone has to go through customs at St. Thomas or none of us get off the ship. Arrival times at the theater are staggered. You will receive notice of your time. I've done this twice and last year's customs inspection went smoothly and quickly. Many kids and adults are in their pjs.
Denise -- I will keep your daughter in my thoughts as she is serving our country in Iraq.
Well, I have to get back to work.
Have a great day, everyone!

Jan- we are staying at Saratoga Springs the night before and the night after. We made reservations for the Candlelight Processional in Epcot the night before the Cruise. We are eating at Teppanyaki in Japan at 5:45 and then we are off to the 8:15 Processional. I would think that there would be some way we can meet up before heading to Port. Maybe breakfast or something?
Uugghh - I was worried about having to be at the Promenade lounge at 7:15am for our excursion in St. John...now I find out that we will be meeting somewhere else even earlier :sad2: Yikes. Oh well...we're not going on this cruise to get any sleep anyway!
Can anyone please tell me why I can't get the song Photograph out of my head!!!
See you later-

For some reason on our last cruise I totally missed the customs/immigration thing on St Thomas day when we were planning for it. I was totally suprised. The line at 7:15 when we went streched out to the atrium area. It was crazy. Then when we got into the theater we had to sit in the seats for another 10-15 minutes. Not a big deal, I was just suprised that I missed knowing about it after combing the disboards daily for the year before the trip.

Yesterday was a not so good day. I didn't feel well all day. I think it may be the client where I am at now. They put me under a lot of stress! But, today and two more and then it is the weekend again.
We sold our tickets on E-bay for the Ga. Tech vs. Notre Dame game. Let's just say that one sale almost paid for my entire season ticket package! But, this weekend we will be in the stands. Three more home games in the next 3 weeks! I LOVE college football! (Hey Mutt, we need a football banana)
Have a great hump-day everyone!
I love college football (but even more so basketball) too. I have season tickets for U of Pittsburgh football and hoops. I was at the Pitt-UVA game last week (which the good guys won) and everyone in the stands was scoreboard watching the GT-ND game. ND is among the most hated teams by Pitt fans (PSU #1 of course) so the cheers were loud througout while GT was hanging on. I got home in time to watch the end. Too bad the jackets couldn't pull it out. Not sure who GT is playing the day we leave Port Canaveral but Pitt ends the season that day with Louisville in a potential big game if both teams perform as expected this year. Hoping I can see a piece of the game onboard somewhere.
I forgot to mention that we got one of our Palo reservations even though we didn't even book this cruise until after the 90 day deadline, so I was pretty happy about that. We did the brunch on last cruise, so we are looking forward to dinner this time (Sunday night). Hope to be able to book brunch once onboard as we were able to last cruise.
Have a great day everybody. I am faced with a day filled with conference calls and meetings - a rarity these days so I'm not even dreading it! :goodvibes

We will be playing our biggest rivalry of the year the day we embark....University of Georgia. I doubt if I will see the game. Since it is being played at UGA, it will probably be an afternoon game. ABC normally picks the game up, but we will just have to wait and see.
So, who will you be pulling for in the ND vs. PSU game this weekend?

:bday: (Belated) CHERI!!!
Jan: We are going with Sunny on St. Thomas (Bob and Lisa will be there, too), 10 a.m. pick-up as the boys didn't want that much shopping time!
Can anyone please tell me why I can't get the song Photograph out of my head!!!
Kelly, just think ... Bananarama. There, that should fix it good ("It's a cruel, cruel summer ..." :rolleyes1 ) For Christmas last year, I put together a special custom 80's mix CD for my 19yo nephew (who hates 80s music) and put only the worst we could find to fully represent the 80s ... Bananarama, Cinderella, Journey (c'mon, it was "Open Arms"!), Missing Persons, Twisted Sister, Adam & the Ants ... there were some that even I couldn't listen to :sad2: !! The funny part was that it got passed around his dorm and all the kids were listening to it!
Ron: Thank you, thank you, thank you for St. Thomas customs info! That was perfect! When do you have to link the ressies for dinner for us? And hey, I didn't realize you were buying the first round!!! Thanks, Buddy! http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2/woogal/2444.gif
Cheri: The official Fantasy Football season started yesterday (wish I could say that I'm into college ball, but it just hasn't grabbed me). I'm really happy with my picks for the season ... got the #1 ranked Chicago Bears defense, QB Tom Brady (Bill's cousin is the head coach of the Patriots so we have a special affection for them!), RB Randy Moss (there's a Raiders guy for you!), K John Kasay (he did well for me last year), TE Tony Gonzales ... well, I'm not going to bore you with my entire line up :rotfl: But it is so much fun, and keeps me off the streets and out of trouble for a few months :teeth: !!
I will relay this to him...however, your not in for a treat as he can not sing. :rotfl2: After he hears this he just may cancel the cruise.... :rotfl:
AW! C'MON WALLY!!! We want to hear that velvet voice of yours ... so what if it's crushed velvet!! :lmao:
