I am dressing up for pirate night. I have one outfit I wear everytime we sail. I love it, so much fun because so many others do it too!
Not sure about DH yet. He will at least have a pirate t-shirt on and the head bandana, we'll see about the rest. Our last cruise on the Magic at least 2/3 of the people were dressed up some way, shape or form!! Those who wernt all asked, How did you know to dress up?? They didnt know about pirate night. Obviously they dont read the Dis boards!
If DCL would let people know about this, even more would dress up and join in the fun!!!

Thanks for the awesome welcome everyone!
JanDave, we're staying pre-cruise either at POFQ or CSR. I'm having the most difficult time deciding. We've never stayed at either, so that makes the decision tougher. I originally booked POFQ then my dh & ds saw the slide at csr so we're still deciding. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm up for it. (We're staying at BC post-cruise).
I'm really looking forward to meeting a lot of you on the cruise!

Tiggerking, we had a great time and the cabin was awesome. The kids were a little frightened due to the bear attack while we were there but overall it was a grand trip.
Count us in on those linked ressies, do you think the dining staff will be able to handle all us Disers in one swoop :cool1: then again if the rumors are true we will be a cake walk compared to Lampy  LOL feel the love Lampy feel the love.....
hope everyone has a great weekend DS is having his party tomorrow and its Fear Factor this should be interesting

DH and I are booked at the POFQ for the 2 nights prior to the cruise. We have stayed there twice before and really love it. We love the theme and everything is just a short walk away. (we had a MUCH longer walk at the Polly to get the main lodge than we ever had at POFQ)

Hi everyone, just checking in again.
So are all the people that are linking up reservations just on the later dining rotation? Is anyone doing any linking on the early rotation? Not that I have it yet (I am on waitlist), but I am hoping to get it....last cruise it just really worked out for our kids. :teeth:
We kinda dress up for pirate night. I have some pirate shirts that we all wear, along with some hats and eyepatches, swords, and the bandanas they provide...I just bring a few for whoever wants to wear them.
We will be flying in on Thanksgiving day on the 23rd, and flying directly home on Saturday when the cruise is over on the 2nd. :sad1: I wish we were going to WDW for a few days afterwards like we did last year, but I guess I should get the kids back to school! LOL
It's coming up fast. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :teeth:

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. It has been a nice and relaxing one here. I pulled out the new Passporter last night and started reading it. Now, I REALLY need a vacation. I wish I could hop on a cruise today, but that isn't happening. I need a beach trip or something in the very near future.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Hi everyone....hope the weekends going well for all.
I think I'm finally getting in the groove of summer. My head has a sunburn from working in the yard, the side driveway has a mountain of mulch in it and I'm starting to think of what kind of peppers to plant. Fall really isn't so bad, is it??
Has anyone else been checking the local6 webcam....gimme a clue here, please?? I checked the site once and saw the dcl terminal plain as day...now I can't seem to find it. Maybe it doesn't like me. The other webcam at twopalms is much better to me. I caught some really good snapshots yesterday of the ship (if I understand the technology, the pics of the ship are courtesy of mutt, tyvm). Anyways...enough of my rambling, I still have a yard to cut and landscaping to do----if anyone feels the spirit to give me a hand, I'll supply lunch!
Enjoy, everyone...

Hi Shelly,
we have been :furious: with that darn local 6 web cam for several weeks. Most of the time it doesnt move. I just checked it 5 minutes ago and it was the same place as yesterday and the day before.
Two palms is working great, but you have to sit and wait to catch it going by.
I hope they get it fixed soon, I have read many posts of people wonderig about it. :confused3
Guess we need to send some :wizard: to them so they will get it fixed.
We who are addicted to DCL need to see the ships!!! :cloud9:
It is our fix to help us through until we cruise!!! :woohoo:
Tomarrow is May, we are that much closer to our cruise

Hi everyone,
we spent yesterday painting stencils of Mickey, Donlad and Goofy on our pool deck. They came out really nice and I did take pictures. Ater we get back from our 3 day cruise this week I will try to post them for you to see.
Hey Tiggerking,
Our room on the Wonder this week is 6634
Does that sound familiar???
I know it's the wrong ship, but I thought of you when I found out our room number. I'll let you know how it is, since the rooms are identical pretty much identical on the ships.
Hope everyone has had a great weekend!!!

Kathy, I will be looking forward to your report. Take pictures if you can to give DW and I an idea of what it is really like!
Cruisemutt: I was trying to figure out why your wife had a sunburned head. Seemed a little strange to me!
Today is puppy give-away day around our house. One of our black labs had 11 puppies. We posted the ad in the paper this week, and have already given away 3 today, and 3 to friends before the ad posted. Only 5 left to go. I will miss my babies, but I can barely afford to feed the 3 dogs and 3 cats that already live here! Yes, we are animal lovers. It is sad when you have to find someone to house sit for you to take a vacation, because to board the animals would cost more per day than many hotel rooms on WDW property!

Yeah, um ... I was wondering that myself. He's so jealous of my beautiful FULL head of hair. :rotfl2:
Tigger, if you were just THIS much closer, I'd take 2 of those beauties! We lost our lab mix last October (he was very sick but the absolute love of our lives!) and I'm ready for a new puppy or 2 in the house. Unfortunately, my Guido does not agree (and at 15 years old, he DOES have a say!).

Hi Cruisepals!
Just checking in to say "hey!" Such a busy time for me to start a new job. In these 10 days we have an Irish Dance (Feis) Competition, a Ballet recital, a 4th Grade Science Fair project and a 1st Holy Communion. All on top of my brand new part time job. :scared1: Can you say Mama Needs a Vacation?
I can't wait to get some time to go back through these many pages that I've missed and update The List.
Hope everyone is well and has a good week.

Hi everybody, I know a few people here were hoping to catch this party. They posted the dates, and the weekend we disembark, the dates are only Dec 1st (we are at Castaway Cay) and Dec 4th (Monday). We were hoping to see the Christmas parade on Sunday Dec 3rd (based on previous years' schedules) so we booked our flight home for Monday. I think I may try and change our flight to Dec 5th. I really wanted to see the Christmas shows, it was the main reason we were staying a few days after the cruise (well, the few days in WDW were a definite plus, too!).

Well my son has surgery on his leg tomorrow so if everyone can say a little prayer that he makes it through O.K., I'd appreciate it. I'm really nervous because he has never had anesthesia before. He will still be in his cast when we go to WDW at the end of May, so he will be using a wheelchair. This is going to be a fun trip for me, pushing a 100 pound kid around in the Florida heat and humidity :thumbsup2. I'm going to need a vacation after this vacation.

I noticed this too and was a little disappointed. We were planning on going to MVMCP on Dec 3rd based on past year dates and I extended our trip to fly out on the 4th. I don't want to extend it to the 5th because I don't want my kids to miss an extra day of school. Now we are just going to do an extra day at the parks, which isn't that bad ;) !

Hi Andy and Danielle!
Your youngest and friend's DDs are my son's age - which I think is GREAT!! I was really hoping he could get to 'know' (as much as they can at this age) kiddos his age before the cruise. Mommy and Daddy would LOVE having to drag him out of the Club every night LOL! He is a typical 4 yo (birthday in Feb) - LOVES Dinosaurs (bit 'Rainman-ish' on the Dinos if you ask me, but whatever), trucks, hotewheels, being silly, talking about his butt, wiggling his butt, telling really bad jokes - I'm sure you've been there LOL.
Anyway - his name is Dutch. We are Sarah (me) and Stony (dh). Looking forward to hearing more about the youngsters cruising with you!
We took Dutch on the Wonder last Feb when he just turned 3. He really enjoyed the Club, and we enjoyed the whole DCL experience - really great for kids and grownups alike. I am thinking he will enjoy the Club even more this time. Last time he was just potty trained and I was really worried about accidents. He also was just beginning to play with others so the organized activities were a bit over his head. By the time we cruise he will be almost 5 and I think he will find the activities alot more enjoyable, and will really like meeting kids and playing together. Maybe we could plan some 'pre' activities so that the kids can get a head start on getting to know each other. That way, when we arrive we can just get them together and let them take it from there.
Some of us on the board have suggested linking ressies together for dining. I put my name into the hat - even though it is late seating. I am therefore REALLY hoping DS hangs in the Club so we can have a nice adult dining experience! If not, oh well there's plenty of chicken fingers on the high seas - but I think it is pretty likely he will take playing in the Club over sitting in the dining room any day! LOL
So.........WELCOME!!!!!! :cool1:
And Hello to everyone else. Sorry I havn't been on in a while - been SO busy at home and work. Anyway - exciting news - we bought a new car yesterday and I can go pick it up tomorrow - woohoo. DH works with cars so I have had 'second hand beaters' for YEARS - I am so excited....imagine, new car smell!!!!!! I got leather seats (heated for that warm tushie on a cold morning feeling too LOL!), 6 CD changer, sunroof, cool black colour etc etc. Anway - I'm really looking forward to picking it up (as you can likely tell! ).
I can't believe how fast time is flying - which is good for the upcoming cruise! Only 6 months and a bit to go :thumbsup2
Gotta go - riding lesson tonight and gotta pick up DS at daycare.

Hi Sarah, Stony & Dutch,
So nice to meet you. I think your son and ours would get along great. He is into all of the stuff you mentioned and his most favorite is The Wiggles. He always tells me he wants to be a Wiggle (he wants to be a wiggle that wears the color brown - don't ask me why he picked that but I guess he figures there isn't a brown wiggle currently)when he grows up. Hopefully we can all meet up the first day and say hello and get the kids acquainted. My son's name is Jared (he just turned 4 on 4/13) and my daughter is Hailey (6 1/2 - she'll be 7 when we cruise). We can't wait to go!
Congrats on the new car!!! Enjoy!

Hello Dandy8 & Andy & Disney Darling.
Welcome to the Board. I have FINALLY had a chance to sit down and update our spreadsheet. Whew! What a big group we are.
If there is ANYONE here who isn't technologically challenged like me and can figure out how to post this spreadsheet on a secure website so everyone can look at it at will, please send me a PM. On the last cruise, we exchanged the link via PMs so it wasn't published. Just not cool to post so much personal information in one place (although everything on the spreadsheet was from this board). If we can't figure that out, I can always email the sheet to anyone if you'd like to see who's onboard so far. Just PM your email address to me.

Here's hoping Kathy has a great cruise. Why is it smoky down there? Are there brush fires? Sorry - I'm a little out of touch.
Thanks for the congrats on the car. I picked it up this afternoon. It's really neat - and NEW! It's a Mazda 3, black, GT with GFX and Luxury pkg. Now - don't ask me what all that means :) DH is in charge of the details. All I know is it is really nice looking, easy to drive and has a leather interior. We also got satellite radio free for a year in the car - so we'll have to see how that goes. I really don't listen to the radio that much. Mostly with DS in the car we were watching kids DVDs and documentaries about dinosaurs. I now know how to spell and say Carcharodontosaurus and Eustreptospondylus - which is a bit strane, but stranger still is DS knowing more than I do LOL. I imagine it will take me a while to figure out all the bells and whistles of the car, but as a Type A I am about 1/4 of the way through the manual LOL!
Danielle, I am going to tell Dutch about Jared and ask if he wants to post anything to him. I'll mention Hailey as well, but he is in a bit of an anti-girl phase right now. Besides, she is a 'bug kid' and probably wouldn't want to hang out with him anyway. Oh kids - gotta love em. :rolleyes2
So, things are good here. The weather is shaping up nicely. We've been around 20 for the last week or two. I think that's around 70/75 (Lampy - sorry your calculator was just to Einstein-ish for me to bother with right now :teeth: ). It's great to be able to get home from school/work and have Dutch playing outside while I get dinner ready. He wanted the sprinkler on tonight for goodness sake! And being the good mother I am I said 'what the heck' so he splashed til he was blue. I am hoping to pay off the last of the trip in the next month or so. Our dollar is SO good against the USD right now - around the .90 cent mark - which is great for us. When we first went to WDW we were around .65 cents. It makes a huge difference on a trip this big. I can't believe how time is flying. I feel like I need to get on things, but likely will be running around last minute. :rolleyes1
Well I better go and get dinner out of the microwave (sorry Martha). Talk to you all soon.
Oh...PA...the new car doesn't have a DVD player. Anyone but one of the portables to use in the car? Anyone have experience good or bad? The one in the minivan was built in to the ceiling, but the ceiling on the new car is too low, so I was thinking about one of the ones you hang on the back of the seat. Then we could also take it with us on trips etc.

Hey Everyone! I hope it has been a great week for everybody. Congrats on the new car Mommy!
It has been a great week here in Atlanta. Highs in the mid 80s and lows in the 60s. I am looking forward to the weekend, although it is going to mean cleaning out the basement. DW and I are about to start finishing our basement so that we can allow my oldest brother to move in with us. He is on disability and can care for himself, but really can't afford his own place. So, once we get part of the basement converted into a small apartment for him, he will be moving in with us. I am actually looking forward to doing most of the work myself, with the help of a couple of friends. Now, if I could just convince work to pay me to stay at home and work on the basement, I would have it made! :thumbsup2
As for going down, DW and I will most likely drive down on Friday. We do Thanksgiving dinners twice on Thursday, so I will need a bit of rest. As for the return, I haven't quite decided yet. I would love to come back and spend a day at WDW and maybe take DW to see La Nouba. I have seen it, and I think she would enjoy it.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Hi Everyone!
So how many of us are there? We have the early seating and are contemplating moving to the late since my parents and the other family we are traveling with are late and on the wait list for early. I'm afraid the kids will fall asleep in their plates if we do the late seating. On the other hand if we do the late they will enjoy the show better. Ahhh.....such dilemmas! I guess we will have to take naps.
We're flying in the day after Thanksgiving and staying near the port at the new Residence Inn. Anyone every stay near the port? Please let me know your experience and where you stayed.
Sarah, Your car sounds great!!! The kids would love to post.
FourfoxesinPA, Are you from PA? DH & I went to college there.
We're enjoying the great weather here in New York, Sunny & high 70s....just perfect!

Good morning E1!
So it's finally Friday, and yet another day closer to the cruise. My gosh, this is going to be a LONG summer!!!!
Bill (Mutt) and I are flying in the day before, and my parents are picking us up at MCO and we're staying overnight with them. They will bring us to the ship on Saturday and pick us up when *sob*:sad1: it's over. Seeing as my dad is one of those "it's-5am-time-to-get-up" kind of guys, for all I know the mutt and I may be in line to get registered at 7 a.m. (NOT!) ... you know, like waiting in line for a concert?!
Danielle, when we went last Thanksgiving with my family, there were 12 of us from 7 to 70, and late seating was good for a couple of reasons. It gave the younger ones time for a nice hour or 2 nap (which they needed IMMENSELY since they were on the go from the minute they woke up) ... as well as naps for some of the older ones (!) ... and they enjoyed the shows that much more. Plus we weren't rushed to get back to the ship at any of the stops.
Hey Ladies ... what are you planning to wear for "semi-formal" night?

Good Morning All -
Since its been raining cats and dogs here, we have been MORE than busy at work. (Soccer).
I thought I would write and answer some of the questions that are going around.
We are staying at the Radisson at the Port. We stayed there last year and DS loved the pool. We will probably hang out there until around noon (or they kick us out) I hate carrying my bag with me on the boat so I will show up around 1:00 ish and that I can deposit my bag in my room and so I can use both hands to start drinking with (J/k).
I bought a formal last year, its PINK (which is not one of my colors) but it looks good with a tan. I will probably wear it again. DH & DS had matching tuxes with pink paisley vests that matched my dress. If I can find a red dress, I will be buying and wearing that one instead.
Funny story about the dress: After Dinner I had made a b-line for goofy and lost my DH and DS in the process (had to get a picture), so I start walking around the ship to find them. I'm in the Aft Elevators and a man and his daughter get on. He says look - its one of the princesses. (Talk about being in an uncomfortable situtation.) I smiled and said, "just for tonight". It still makes me smile when I think about it.
Have a great weekend.

Danielle? Make sure the kids don't bite the hosts or the servers at the late seating...it puts such a damper on the evening (ask woo).

Woogal, you are on at Signals. I am really hoping that my bartender is back for our cruise. I never had an empty glass, unless I wanted one.
We had a 8/9 year old at late seating. He did well. Most evenings I had to pull him out of the pool at 730 so that he could get dressed for dinner. Having dinner with Mom and Step-Dad was the only thing he was required to do during the day. He talks daily about our servers and was crying when we left Breakfast the last morning of the cruise. (so was MOM)

Welcome Andy and Danielle!
Bon Voyage, Kathy!
We're a party of two, arriving in Florida on November 17th, we hope. We're bringing a pair of Disney Virgins for Thanksgiving week, then putting them on the plane home on the way to Port.
It seems as we age we prefer time for dinner to settle before we go to bed, and even on a cruise, we're larks rather than owls, so we've chosen early dining, although I would like the latest of the early times. WE'd be happy to link - if there's anyone who doesn't mind 'middleaged with no kids' at their table
What to wear to dinner. . . I have a set of comfy velvet clothes - pants, jacket, shell, skirt and (dress if I can fit in it) and will wear some combination of those. I know on the western the rotation to want is PlaPlap to get Lumiere's on Formal night. What is it on the eastern? Edited to say I guess that is eastern . . . I wonder where I ate on the western?
Sorry, I forget what the other questions are - Knew I should have written them down before I started answering. You'll find I can't remember twice round a broom handle - including names.:( I might as well apologize now!

Danielle: We're staying at the Residence as well! Looks like the kiddos can meet up ahead of time - nice!
Jared: Here's a picture of Dutch on CC last year - pretending to pick his nose!! What a goose!

OK - on second look I would say he is, in fact, picking his nose. :sad2:
We are currently on early seating but, as I've already mentioned, would love to link ressies on the late if we can manage it. DS is young enough that if that doesn't work for him we can just feed him from Goofys/Plutos and the buffets. He doesn't eat much anyway - and definately nothing 'weird'. If memory serves, he had mickey pasta with no sauce at every meal on our Wonder trip.
I'm always up for a bevvie or two, so we may well join you for the 1:01pm Signals rendevous.

I think the 3rd night. It depends on the rotation of course, but all other nights have 'somthing' going on in the dining rooms - ie pirate night, formal night, cpt gala etc.

This is our 6 sailing with DCL and we had early on our first in 2000. I have to tell you, if you have the 5:30 seating you are REALLY rushed to get back from your excursons, get showered and dressed and to dinner......whenever there is a post asking "early or late" I reply with a story......on our 03 Eastern we had just got back from our excursion, I went to the bar had my mug filled and casually strolled down to the internet cafe to check on the DDs when I heard all this racket, it must have been Mom, Dad, Kids and Grandparents running down the stairs yelling at each other "hurry up we're going to be late......AGAIN!" That's when I decided late is the way to go.......Now remember.......You have 2 time zone changes while at sea on an Eastern also......so 5:30 is 3:30 Port canaveral time and 8 is 6....FYI.

WOW!!
I go away for 3 days and I come back and see your son has arrived!! :cloud9: That is fantastic!! Please keep us posted and when your up to it, how about posting a picture of this future cruiser??
Well we are back from a great trip.
we got off to a stressful start because of the brush fires burning near the coast. Our usual route was closed due to the smoke, so we started our alternate route and it had a closed road too. NO detour signs were posted, the radio station that is suppose to give road reports according to the signs along the highway at 1300 a.m. had nothing at all, so we were not getting any help. we just kept heading towards any town we knew was on the beach. After lots of confusion we saw a couple of cruise line buses and we saw people in them so we just followed the bus to cocoa beach area, then we were ok. we usually get to the port around 10, but this time we arrived around 2:15. Everyone was running late and the terminal was very busy. Luckily it didnt take too long. I ran to the room to dump the carryon bag and DH headed to the buffet which was suppose to be closing but people were lined up out the door. I headed for the promenade lounge for a cruise meet with fellow disers at 3 p.m.. It was a great meet with very nice people.
Lots of them had been having the same problems with the smoke as we had.
after the safety drill it was time for the sail away party. :woohoo:
High Frequency was playing and they did a great job. There was a good crowd, but not packed as it usually is, the ship was not a full ship this time.
It was never crowded accept the first day at the buffet for lunch because everyone was running late. so after several minutes of dancing, singing and screaming it was time to watch us pull out. We left about 15 minutes late, so it was easy to find a place to stand, a lot of people were leaving to dress for early dinner by then. We stayed on deck for a long time as we pulled out.
No dolphins this time, but lots of pelicans and one bald eagle swooped over the deck. I did wave at all of you on the two palms camera as we went by. Did you see me? :rotfl2: I was thinking of you :rolleyes1
Anyway we had perfect weather the entire trip. We learned the Charles Marshall Band is no longer with DCL, so any big fans out there, I'm sorry but he wont be back. Our ship made a few funny sounds as we traveled along. we found out later that one of the propellers had got damaged at a previous trip to CC. It had been checked out by divers, but cant be fixed, it must be replaced. So they couldnt fill some of the rooms on deck 2 as it was really loud and the crew quarters on deck one were terrible at the one end of the ship for noise. Dont know when it will be replaced. For us it was a quiet background noise, not bad at all.
They have a new smoking policy too. On the outer decks there is still No smoking by the kiddie pool, but all the rest of the open decks are non smoking on the starboard side and smoking on the port side. so any adults who want to be near the adult pool can sit on the starboard if they dont want the smoke. At the family pool you can sit with the kids on the starboard side and no smoke too. same on deck 4. The signs are small so it will take alittle time for people to notice this.
All the shows were awesome, as usual. Food was excellant.
Pirate party was done a little differently than the last 2 I had been to. But it was still fun and the fireworks were great.
The new Navigators are terrible. Tiny print, times were worng about half the time so we missed things,so did others. The spreadsheet layout just was confusing and we didnt likeit at all. Most we talked to didnt like it either.
Tiggerking, tell DW I did take pictures of the room which I will post later this week.
We spent a lot of time in the promenade lounge listening to Don and Tommie perform. They are friends of ours , so we always stop to enjoy their music when we connect on board. They are excellant performers and such nice people. The stores actully had a few new things this time too. I guess we go so often that it seems like it never changes, but it does.
This trip was the first time we ever got to meet Captain Henry. He came over to us in the promenade lounge one evening and introduced himself and visited for about 10 minutes before leaving. Of course this is the one time I dont have my camera with me!! :confused3
The night shows were good too. Lots of yummy late night snacks by the clubs .
In Nassau we just shopped around. The straw market had been redone since we were there last May. Someone said it had burned down a few months ago. It is still a big white tent, but it is taller and the center isle is large enough you can easily walk down it, even with a stroller, The next row in either side is wider than it use to be then the rest are tiny and cramped, like it use to be. They have several new things this time, I was pleasantly surprised and the quality of what I got this time. Then DH and I looked at t-shirts and hats. Bought a shirt for cruisemutt, then walked around to the pirate museum, but they were lined up to buy tickets to go in, so we skipped it since we had done it before.
We went back to the ship and relaxed to the island band playing by the family pool and saw some characters greeting the kids. I was constantly running into fellow dis board people and hearing all the fun they had been having. I really enjoyed that.
At CC it was HOT!! great weather to go swimming!! Beaches wernt crowded though, but the ship wasnt full, so I'm sure that had soemthing to do with it. They have a pirate scavenger hunt which we did. It did take about an hour and some of the answers were very obscure, but we managed to finish it and get our treasure afterwards. It was fun. Then we rented bikes and rode both the trails on the island. The new trail is 5000 feet long. It has 2 places to park your bikes, but no benches to sit and nothing to see. It is just for riding on. It was a very good smooth, wide path. It was so hot that after a late lunch at cookes BBQ we went back to the ship to cool off in the adult pool while most people were on shore. afterwards as we were heading back to the room a woman who had been swimming came up to us with DH's ID which he forgot was in his pocket and he had lost it in the bottom of the pool. That could of been a diaster to loose that!!
All in all it was a great trip. we mostly went with the idea to destress after moving and a job promotion, so we didnt do excursions or race to do everything on the ship. although I did watch the ice carving which was great. he did a dolphin this time which I hadnt seen before.
we did leave a few mickey bars for everyone.
Once we got off the ship the smoke was worse than when we left . So we just drove hwy 1 down to titusville and came inland. All the roads around were closed or cops were there closing them as we drove by. I hope people who are traveling to the port the next few weeks know about this because they dont have any signs up on which way to detour. If you just flew in and rented a car this could be a terrible problem for you.
well I am tired, if I think of something else I will post it soon.
hope everyone had a great weekend, I know we did.
Oh, almost forgot, we did book another 3 day or next april too. :thumbsup2

Kathy: Glad to hear you made it to the cruise, albeit a bit late, and that you had a great time. Of course, how could you not have a great time? I told DW about the pictures and we are looking forward to seeing your pictures of the cabin and to hear your thoughts on it.
Wendy: Congrats on the new car. I like the appearances of those Saturn Vue's. DW and I keep talking about a new car, but neither of us wants to go back to making car payments again!
We had a great weekend. Weather was a little off on Sunday, but on Saturday we were able to clean out the basement and get the grass mowed. A great accomplishment for both of us. It is nice to actually be able to walk through our basement again. We are hoping to start finishing out the basement very soon.

Kate and Danielle, thanks for the :thumbsup2 on Dutch. He's a handful, but it's fun....never a dull moment as they say LOL.
Kathy - welcome back - glad to hear you finally made it onboard! Is it common to have fires down there at this time of year? I have actually never heard of that before and thought FL was a fairly 'moist' state :teeth: Seriously....I always think of the central states as being really dry - like our Prairies up here and FL kinda like Ontario (but warmer of course!) where we go through a few dry spells but nothing major. Is it just this time of year, or could we be in trouble in November? I would be one of those stuck in a rental car, pulling up to the Arch in St Louis and wondering how the heck I missed the turn-off for the Port
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Weather is looking really nice up here for the next few days. Talk to you soon

Hi Dutchsmommy,
yes this time of year brush fires are common. We are at the end of our dry season. The rainy season starts in June. But this year we are having a drought so it is much worse than normal. We had a big brush fire near Sea World yesterday. It is finally under control, but the smoke was horrible for the people who were there.
We had rain this morning but not enough to help with the fires.
Hope everyone is having a great week!!!

Hi,
Did anyone see the Today show today? They had a segment on the new Freedom of the Seas ship. It was very interesting to see the pictures of the inside of the ship. Just curious if any of you have any thought on the largest ship on the seas??
It looks like our rain has already left the area. but it did seem to help some of the fires, so maybe people wont have such a hard time getting to the ship after they cut down the dangerous trees today.
Anyone doing anything special this weekend??
We are putting up wallpaper borders in a couple of rooms and the upstairs hallway. Sunday we may go to WDW for mothers day, but not sure at this point. I havnt been feeling too great today,so I'll see how I am on sunday.
Any moms out there go special plans for mothers day??
Enjoy the weekend everyone,

I'm sorry Shell, but that is just one of the cutest pictures I had ever taken of the puppies and just felt I needed to share. I promise not to post any more pictures of the pups unless specifically requested.
Bill: BTW, since it was YOUR wife who suggested the drink buying, don't you think it would be appropriate for YOU to buy? I am confident that Lampy would agree with me on this!

Hi everyone,
We have had an exciting day here today, my sister works for American Airlines and they are often able to get great deals on last minute cruises so today for the fun of it she called and we are now booked on the Wonder sailing June 1. we were leaving on the first for a week at WDW any way so we decided at that great rate we couldn't pass it up so we shall start our week off with a cruse with the mouse. :cool1:

What can we do for pirate costumes? I have NO imagination.
mom x4,grandma x4
05-16-2006, 07:52 AM
Pirate Costumes:
I have seen so many different ones it's hard to describe. If you google pirate costumes and look at some of the pictures it will give you some ideas. I did that and it really helped a lot.
I have seen jeans cut off about knee length, then cut up the leg about 8 to 10 inches and left with a ragged uneven look. sandals and knee high boots. Some pants had vertical stripes and were cut the same way as the pants. Long vests ( to bottom of hips) again cut a jagged edge around the bottom of it. Sashes around the waist are very popular. Black or brightly colored striped sashes around the waist look great. You can just buy a small piece of material and hem the edges and you have a sash. No need to worry about straight seems. Nothing is perfect on pirate clothes. Men and women both with white shirts, long sleeves, puffy type sleeves and ruffles on the chest. I saw several men with black jeans on for the pants. I few had captain Hook costumes on. I saw a father and son with matching hook outfits. They give you a pirate bandana at dinner to wear too. I have a silver medallion necklace I wear that is the coin from the Pirates of the caribbean movie. I got it at WDW for $10 last year. I saw lots of bulky beads too. I have a skirt that is tan color with layered uneven edges I got at K-mart for $10, long sleeve white shirt, tan vest, tan boots with metal buckles a bandana, medallion necklace, a sash that is brown leather with a metal skull and crossbones on the front, and an eye patch. That is what I wear. hope that helps some. Also they have face painting on the ship and lots of kids have eye patches and a scar on their checks painted on which looks great too.
You will see some people who ordered entire outfits from costume shops on line. They look awesome, but I know they are a bit much for my budget. Although when its not close to Halloween you can get some good buys on line, but most have a NO return policy, so watch carefully.
Myself I would head for the thrift store to get some cheap clothes you can cut up, I did that for a couple of things and it worked great. Rips, tears and stains are all ok, so that makes it easy. I read one lady said her family would never throw out their old clothes, so she took them to make the pirate outfits. That got rid of the old clothes and made the costumes as well. Now they have to get new clothes because she cut them up for patches too, so they couldnt wear any of them again. she was very cleaver and sneaky too. A true mom!!!
Well I hope this has given you a few ideas. I'm sure others will have some ideas much better than mine.
Have a great Tuesday.

The weather here in Georgia has been awesome over the last 2 weeks. We have had some showers to deal with, but for the most part it has been highs in the low 70s/high 60s and lows at night near 50 degrees. We have had the windows open for almost 2 straight weeks now with the AC turned off.
Now, for some of you, that may seem cool. To me, it seems like heaven! And, the dogs have been loving it too. Black dogs tend to attract a lot of heat and get warm awful quick, but our two have been having a blast playing outside. Plus, it has kept them from seeking out the creek to get cool! :thumbsup2

What in the world is a fluffernutter sandwich?! Is that some kind of southern thang???!!! I tried red-eye gravy a few weeks ago when I was in Raleigh. Talk about BLECHHHHHHH! :scared: And the worst part is ... I actually asked what is was before I tried it. Shell, you pooooor sheltered child. Red eye gravy is perfect with country ham, a little bit over your grits (you do know what those are, don't you?), or with a biscuit for soppin (that means to dredge your biscuit through the juices left on the plate after the food is gone)! :stir: Sounds like Lisa and I need to meet you and Bill for breakfast at a Waffle House in Florida to introduce you to the finer things in life.
As for a fluffernutter, that is by no means a southern only thing. A fluffernutter sandwich is made with marshmallow creme (fluff) and peanut butter. It is a stick to the roof of your mouth, sweet shot of sugar rush!
Geez, you mid-westerners have to got to realize there is more to life than buckeyes, corn and beef! And by the way, which Cavs are you talking about? Cleveland or Univ. of Va.? :rolleyes2

Nope, not a southern thing. My kids love these and eat them often. But they'll eat marshmellow fluff with anything.

DW gets mad at me because I can sit there with the jar of fluff and a jar of peanut butter and a spoon. I do fluffernutters without the bread! Maybe that is why I have my own jar of peanut butter at the house!?! :confused3
It is also good on cereal bars! Peanut butter is good on anything! In the words of my father "Man cannot live on bread alone, but give him a little peanut butter and he will be alright!"

OK Bob, let's take these comments one-by-one, shall we?
1. Yes, I do know what grits are ... I have mine with butter and Equal (that should make any southerner's skin crawl!). I have instant ones in my cupboard right now, but as we all know from My Cousin Vinny: "No self-respecting southerner would make instant grits".
2. Soppin' ... we cultured northerners call that Delicately Dunking ... and we don't do it with anything that incorporates "ham drippin's and coffee" as the 2 major ingredients.
3. Waffle House, huh? I want to go to a Biscuitville!
4. "Buckeyes, corn and beef" you say? HA! You're so wrong! You forgot about pierogies, kielbasa, and pork & sauerkraut!
5. There are other Cavs in the world besides the ones that are up 3-2 against the #1 seeded Detroit Pistons in the NBA playoffs??? Well I'll be darned ...

I have 6 months to exercise just to come close to Ron in the bestest legs contest so I'm gonna steer clear of all that stuff til the cruise.
Honey...baby...darlin (not you Bob!) We need to stay humble about the cavs...we have NOT won yet. You KNOW how cleveland sports are. Easy does it...hope and pray, its good for the city.

Hi,
Glad to hear all is well at your house. 3 weeks already, it doesnt seem tha that long to me.
What I do for pictures and keep in mind I am learning and a newbie at this.
Once you down load pictures on your computers go to www.photobucket.com and make yourself a family photo album there. Once you do that you can post pictures. I had to struggle with it a lot, but others on this thread helpe dme with hints on how to do it, so if you try and dont understand the directions, tell us what point you are at and someone will be able to talk you through it. It may not be me though I am still learning, but if I can do it, so can you!!!! When it comes to computer stuff I am about a smart as a stick in the mud!!!
I sure hope you can figure it out because I would love to see some pictures of the wee one before he starts college!! Ha! Ha!
Have a great weekend and please dont hesitate to ask for help with the pictures!!!

I hope that everyone is having a good weekend. The weather here went straight from early spring (70/50 h/l) to August (87 degrees right now). It is beautiful, but dang that is hot when there is no water around (I need some beach time).
As far as the edumacation, do I need to be prepared to teach a class on Southern 101 when we meet up? I am sure some of you need to learn about the finer things in life that only the south can provide! I promise that I will leave out the chitterlings (or, as pronounced properly, chitlins) :stir:

Well it has finally stopped raining here ... after what seemed like 2 straight weeks of continuous rain. It's about 60 (below average) and Bill is tilling the garden as I write. He added another 40 sf, and I bought 12 roma tomato plants, 6 banana pepper plants, 3 habenero pepper plants, 3 red hot chili pepper plants (I have named them Anthony, Flea, and the last one is JohnAndChad), celery, lettuce spinach, carrots, peas and green beans. So we have a busy summer ahead of us. :sunny:
I just can't wait for my southern-fried edumucation. Hmmm ... I'm guessing Chitlins and Biscuits 101, Introduction to Talking with a Twang, and Civics: We Coulda Left Y'all, Y'know. :lmao:

Frost advisory...IN MAY?? I guess the good news is its supposed to be 85 by Saturday in NE ohio...so the garden will get planted. What do you plant in your area? We do cucumbers, romas, banana peppers, carrots and such. Its not a big garden so we're kinda limited.

Weather here has been crazy. We were having great normal spring weather when all of a suddent this weekend it has gotten really cool - maybe 10 degrees above freezing. And yesterday I was volunterring at a Horse Show at the barn where I ride and it was gale force winds, rain that turned to hail/sleet and freezing - NOT pleasant!! Oh well, today is a holiday Monday for us (I think yours is next weekend?) so DS and I are getting ready to go to the zoo - hopefully the weather is better today - it's still cool right now but sunny so fingers crossed it will stay that way!

I will never forget the first time I saw this old timer eating it at a dinner in PA. I had to ask one of my PA friends what the heck is that guy eating. Not picking on Andy here, but this phrase is what gets me about some foods. If someone tells you a food is "an acquired taste", it means that the first time you put it in your mouth, you will gag and want to spit it out. Then, after eating it hundreds of times, your taste buds will be so numbed that they can't pick up the flavor of anything anymore! :rotfl2:

Tiggerking,
I think an aquired taste means it was fed to you as a little kid and mom and dad made you eat it, so eventually you just got use to it!! Like peas and green beans!! I was lucky and had a dog that whoofed things down so fast he never tasted what he was being given. So my plate was always pretty clean. My dad was a farm boy, he loved pickled pigs feet, head cheese etc...Lucky for us kids, mom was not a farm girl and she intervened a lot a meal time!!!
we had a monte carlo, but it was in the mid 70's and we loved it!! Never had a new one. Sorry I cant help you with that one, but I will ask DH if he knows anyone at work that has one. He knows lots of people in his line of work.

The Mutt and I learned a long time ago that we don't trust nor buy domestic cars! We just traded in both of our Camry's over the last year for a Solara (his) and a Rav4 (mine). Do yourselves a favor and go find a nice Toyota, which will last 10X as long and be virtually maintenance-free. Even if it has over 50K miles, that's equivalent to about 20K or less on a domestic car. Now aren't you glad you asked??? :thumbsup2
acquired taste n.One that is unpleasant on immediate experience or is likeable only after being experienced repeatedly ... or with enough wine in your system so that you forget what you're really eating. (That's how I came to eat escargot in Paris ... after a few glasses!)

Well, DW and I currently own a 91 Accord (204,000 miles), a 96 Accord (176,000 miles) and an Explorer (180,000 miles)! My motorcycle has the lowest miles of any vehicle we own (it only has 2800 miles). I love the Toyotas and the Hondas, and DW REALLY likes the Solara convertibles, but I REALLY like the look of the new Monte Carlos. Consumer Reports actually rates them pretty decent for a Chevrolet. We will see what happens. I emailed a low-ball offer to the salesman this morning to see where we stand. I think we are overdue for a new(er) vehicle, but as stated before, I am extremely cheap and have to find the right deal!

HEAD CHEESE!!!!! I've seen it in the deli case and wondered if anyone actually ate it. Kind of scary.....I guess you can't knock if you don't try it!! I think if I did I would pull a Kellie Pickler (American Idol Finale) and gag and spit it out. Andy went to lunch with a friend who is turkish and he came home with some leftovers which included this strange type of meat. He told me it was pork so I tried to eat it (notice I said tried) it was terrible. He then proceeded to tell me later on that I was eating toungue. Never again!! Another acquired taste....
Andy never told me what was in Scrapple I need someone to let me know.....or do I want to know? :confused3
Back in '99 Andy was waiting for his company car to be delivered so they rented him a monte carlo for a few weeks in the meantime. It was a beautiful car.....lots of power, loved it!! I'm sure the newer version are really nice!

From Wikipedia:
Composition
Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, eyes, heart, liver, bladder, and other scraps, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are discarded, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush. The meat, finely minced, is returned, and seasonings, typically sage, thyme, savory, and others, are added. The mush is cast into loaves, and allowed to cool thoroughly until gelled. The proportions and seasoning are very much a matter of the region and the cook's taste.
Commercial scrapple often contains these traditional ingredients, with a distinctive flavor to each brand, though homemade recipes often specify more genteel cuts of pork, with a consequently blander taste. A few manufacturers have introduced beef and turkey varieties.

Hey everyone. Happy 6 months...(wow, that felt good....DW :rolleyes1)
Great analysis of scrapple Bob. There are even more unsavory ingredients that go into scrapple but what's ground up in New Jersey, stays in New Jersey. Hope everyones having a great Thursday~

First off, we now know that Ron has WAY too much money and needs to buy the drinks (3 boats?). ;)
The car talk is that I am looking at buying a 2003 Monte Carlo SS, and I was curious who could give me any feedback. It sounds like you are the right person! I will drop you a PM, if you don't mind answering a few questions.

OK, first off scrapple=barf :stir:
The things you learn on these boards - I have never in my life heard of scrapple - and now I know why. I was thinking it would some kind of nice scrambled-up apple type dessert...WRONG!!!!!!!!!!
Lampy - DH has a lot of toys too - man's perogative I suppose. But then again, I ride horses so while not truly toys, they are my hobby. DH is planning DSs 'first car' already - and DS is 4!
All is well here - finally getting some nice weather after a long weekend (our holiday Monday was Victoria Day, this Monday past) of near freezing temps and at the horse show I was at on the weekend torrential rain and sleet/hail - NICE, gotta love Canadian spring lol. But...it's supposed to get up near 80 on Sunday with humidity so we may have to hit the splash-park for the first time this year :cheer2: Everybody put on their sunglasses in anticipation of my white-as-only-a-tue-Canadian-can-get legs!!
I'm happy we are down to the 6 month mark :woohoo: Can't wait to meet everyone in person. Gotta go put DS to bed - talk to you all (or y'all I suppose) later. :wave2:

Andy went to lunch with a friend who is turkish and he came home with some leftovers which included this strange type of meat. He told me it was pork so I tried to eat it (notice I said tried) it was terrible. He then proceeded to tell me later on that I was eating toungue. Never again!! Another acquired taste....
:rotfl2:
I never told you it was pork. I told you to guess. You guessed pork and I didnt confirm or deny
It was actually Sheep toungue. Most people from Turkey dont eat pork for religious reasons.
I ate it at lunch and my friend ordered for me in turkish so i didnt know what i was eating either, And I had to eat it. He was paying for lunch and I didnt want to offend him.
I still get a laugh out of that story. :rotfl:

DH and I are car shopping tomorrow.
We have not bought a car in 9 years, so I think it's about time.
We have put 180,000 miles on our dodge stratus in that time, and things are starting to break... :confused3
Oh well, DH has had his eye on the PT Cruisers since they came out, so now he can have his car. :sunny:

Happy Long Weekend everyone!
DH and I are heading to Morgantown, WV tomorrow morning and will return to mid-Michigan Monday evening. We are visiting our DS, DDIL, and two angelic grandchildren. Our plans almost changed as my DD (in Michigan) was having some contractions Wednesday evening. When she goes into labor, I'm taking care of DGS who is 2. DD is due in late June; this baby will be grandchild #6!
Six months from now (Sunday, 11/26) I hope to be seated at dinner, followed by an evening at Rockin Bar D or Promenade Lounge.
Love those BBCs; can't wait for my "nutrition" juice.
Kathy: I've never watched American Idol, Desperate Housewives, The Office, etc. I seldom turn on the TV, but when I do, I usually watch the cable news shows.
I am a bookaholic though. I'm almost done reading James Patterson's 4th of July.
If anyone is driving or going to drive this weekend, have a safe trip.

We were the same way, and unfortunately with Delta you have to book your skysaver tickets almost the day that they become available (like 331 days in advance), since they limit them per flight so much. And bad news for us, we did not know we were going on this cruise again when they became available, so it was a major pain....we are going to cancel our credit card with them because we are always getting shut out. It's getting old not being able to use the tickets we rightfully earn.
Are there any younger kids traveling with any of you besides Dutchsmommy? I have a DD12, and a DD10 that would love to email or correspond with other girls close to their ages. It makes it more fun for them. :teeth:

I am glad to hear I am not alone for not seeing American Idol. When a neighbor says somerhing about it and i say I never watched it they look at me as if I were crazy!!

My girls are through having kids now, so we are stuck at 4 GK's. The boys arnt married and are NOT thinking about getting married and adding to our awesome 4 some. I really dont want to rush them, but I hope someday they will make a contribution, while I'm still around to enjoy them.
We have had some more brush fire problems in central Florida. :sad2: The main road to the port was closed on friday again, not sure about saturday. Yesterday we had another brush fire that closed some main roads, but it was near Kissimmee, so it didnt bother the routes to the port. No injuries or lossod houses so far :goodvibes

Eventually my boys are both moving back to Oregon to live. That is our home state, we will eventually get back there too. Colorado isnt that far from Oregon, so who knows??? :goodvibes I'm sure stranger things have happened!!
