Just saw this ... had to share:
House from 'A Christmas Story' to become tourist stop
October 09, 2006 09:17 EDT
CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland house where the film "A Christmas Story" was shot will open as a tourist attraction November 25th.
Brian Jones has painted the exterior of the house and gutted the inside to match the look of the home where Ralphie lived in the 1983 movie.
Jones is still searching for a claw-foot tub and a pull-chain toilet to finish the 1940s look of the upstairs bathroom.
Jones also bought the house across the street, which will serve as a ticket office, museum and gift shop. There will be plenty of leg lamps for sale.

I was asked to clarify the 'Canadian way' we do things so here goes:
skunk = stinky animal
firefly = bug who's butt lights up
pop = pop (whether coke, pepsi, sprite etc)
shopping cart = grocery holder
grocery bag = thing you take your groceries home in
iced tea = always sweet
I am a 'regular' tea drinker and learned the hard way that down in the States you have to ask for 'Hot Tea' or you get Iced Tea
Pole Cat - no idea....a cat stuck up a pole?
Scrapple - sounds gross (sorry)
Definately 'Ask' not 'Ax'
Thing in the middle of the road is the 'median' but I have heard it called the 'burm' too.
Apparently we say 'roof' funny?? I have no idea - sounds right to me.
We definately use 'eh' alot, but don't dwell on it like some people do when they are making fun of us.
We love our Tim Horton's coffee.
Snow is a fact of life....Stephen you will have to visit!
Not sure what else we say funny or eat that is weird?
We have either all season radials or winter tires (winter tires get better grip).
Most of us speak English but know a bit of French. I have no idea about any Spanish other than what I have learned off Dora the Explorer 'euleme me!'
Anyone have any things they have heard about us which they would like clarified????? :teeth:

Plus I cant swim, so I have to at least pretend to be nice. :cloud9:

Good Afternoon All     ,
Sorry I was not on early but I woke up with a very nasty stuffy    nose :headache: :headache: :headache: and headache and to top it off DS has been very cranky :sad2: :sad2: !! Today we had Mommy and Me and Ds was not cranky for that for some reason. I started to prepare my dinner roasted veggies with pasta oil and garlic. Well I will be back on later to see what is going on!! Talk to you after dinner!!
Question: What are theses door signs for? :confused3 :confused3 ? The cabin door??
Jan: DH is alway picking on me because I say "ax" instead of asked. I have a NY ascent that what I tell him!!!
Kathy: That's great that you meet Pat!! I am glad that you girls had a nice time!! :grouphug: :grouphug:
Oh wow ... I thought the only people that said that were my cousins :rotfl2: That's scary :rotfl2: ! Although they pronounce it more like "yins"
Younz is a HUGE Pittsburgh area thing but only among the *ahem* uneducated. I don't mean to be mean but its a horrible local word that roughly translates to you-all but most of us unlearn it once we hit college. Another thing that Pittsburghers do is say 'n-at -- Aka And That -- at the end of every sentence. "I need to go to the store n'at"
Additionally, Pittsburgh people drop the "to be" in most cases - ie. "My hair needs washed."
I could go on..but it's too depressing.

Ok Shell,
you'd hear about it sooner or later.
Immediately after I went through the food door at wal mart I hear a lady call my name, I turned around just in time to have a big bear hug put on me, :furious: :furious: i hugged back as hard as I could, but couldnt break free. :goodvibes
As her arms pulled away she yanked my long hair, :duck: so in defense i stomped on her left foot where she had claimed to of broken her toe!!! :teeth:
Imagine the look on my face when It wasnt Pat, it was someone else who was calling a different kathy. :guilty:
After i composed myself the real Pat appeared, she was very friendly and helped me "Lift" I mean buy a few pieces of clothing for the cruise and some magnetic sheets for her door signs. :rolleyes1
We made a good pair, we may go into business together after today. We think a lot alike. :crazy2:
Then we decided to hog one of the benches so the old people couldnt sit there until we were ready to leave. popcorn:: We took our time too!!
Ok,now we will see who is the most gulable, the southerners or northerners?
Depends on how much of my story you believe.
Shell you wanted "gory" details, so you gottem!!! :rotfl2:
Sorry Pat, :worship: i had to tell. :ssst: Shell made me!!! :sad2:

Degrassi has been "teaching" me Canadian pronunciations! :thumbsup2 I think the most notable differences are "ou" sounds: house (hoose), about (aboot), out (oot), sorry (soary) - it's not an "ou" word.
Also - going to attend university instead of college; grade 9 or grade 10 instead of freshman or sophomore. Are those representations correct?
I'll see if I can locate my complete quiz. In the meantime:
We call them subs, drink pop, iced tea is unsweetened unless you add sugar to it yourself, the middle thing is a median.
I usually call the evening meal supper (at home), but we go out for dinner. When I was younger, dinner was the mid-day meal, but lunch was what we ate at school. Now I guess it's lunch all the time! Grocery cart, bags. We don't say "Da Bears" or "Da Bulls" like in the SNL skit! Guess we're too far from the city!

Lynn, even though I am southern born and raised I still am told I sound more like I am from New York. Its something about a New Orleans Accent, it ain't southern at all.
I also say axe instead of ask
We call that strip of land a neutral ground but it comes out sounding like neutra ground. Its even how we describe what side of a Mardi Gras float your friends will be on . Drivers side or neutra ground.
We also describe colors by places for example purple, when you tell some one about something purple its either LSU purple or KB purple( which was a drug store here that had a very bright shade of purple on its store front.)But this is from a town who wear purple green and gold together three weeks every year. :lmao:

Great story Pat & Kathy! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I laughed out loud! (nothing coming out my nose, though!)
Our phones aren't working today, so the phone company will supposedly come out by tomorrow afternoon.
I had a great day of shopping yesterday! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
******Warning guys: this is girlie talk -- no undergarments, just bargain-hunting survival stories! *******
I went to Marshall's (could be my new favorite!!!! :rotfl2: ) Found another princess dress for DD (as if Her Highness needed another), a coat, hat & gloves, and dressy shoes plus a $2 swim suit - all for DD!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
I also found my dress for formal night (Shell told me I needed to get something new! :lmao: ). It's totally different than anything I would ever buy (I usually go for the little black dresses.). This dress is kind of a shimmery sea-foam green floor-length dress. On the hanger it looked like it was for a 7-ft tall giant! But, my 5'5" frame managed to keep the hem off the floor, just barely, when on my tip toes! DH wasn't impressed with it on the hanger. :confused3 But it was a GREAT bargain!!!!! ;)
My best bargain of the day was at Kohl's! I went to get a 2nd big suitcase so we wouldn't have to lug so many bags. They were listed as 50% off, plus I had a coupon for another 20% off. So it should've cost around $80. Our total for everything ended being $63. Being the math wizard :wizard: that I'm not, it didn't hit me until we were in the car that something didn't seem right. Checked the receipt and noticed it indicated the suitcase had a clearance price of $29.99!!!!!! So I got what was regularly priced as a $200 suitcase for $30, and that's before the 20% off. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2:
****It's safe to read again, guys!******
I'm going to go run on the treadmill, prepare "supper" and get ready for DWtS!!!!!!!!
Have a great evening!

Cheri,
great buy on the suitcase!!! :thumbsup2
Lynn, yes the door signs are for the cabin door. It is a fun way to decorate your door which makes it easier to find your room, especially late at night.
Most use a magnetic sheet and decorate it with disney or tropical stuff. Sometimes pictures of the kids too.
The doors are metal so the magnetic sheets work great.
I cant wait to hear everyone talking to each at the meet :rotfl2:
Maybe I should bring a tape recorder as well as my camera.
Hopefully by then we will all know the slang words from all over so we can understand each other.
It could get very interesting!!! ;)

Hey everyone....
Sarah....you're making me wanna go north....Tim Hortons.....mmmm.....that coffee was the best. (yep, better than Starbucks...better than Dunkin Donuts). I spent a few loonies and toonies there (sp?).
Jeff... I'm pretty sure youns guys say goom bands instead of rubber bands...ever heard the phrase Imp and Arn? I went to school in Pittsburgh and had a job after hours...the old fellas always talked about goin out for an imp an arn after their shift. A lil research and I came up with the translation of Imperial Crown and an Iron City Beer....was that accurate? Pete and Pats was the watering hole we went to on a few occasions...ok, a few more than a few....alright....we were regulars, ok????

Hey Carrie...did you grow up near Youngstown, by any chance?
Just curious....
Curiousity for you too, Bob...Soda? Soda Pop? Pop? Honestly, I have no idea what its called down south,....Hep a good ol' Ohire boah out hea.....
No, I've never been to Youngstown. I grew up in a rural area in Belmont County. I think we are less than an hour from Pittsburgh. Close enough to pick up "Younz" from the uneducated Pittsburghers. But far enough away that my city-phobic father never took us. The first time I was there was when I left for the Air Force at 18. I made a couple of trips to the Airport on visits home. And one visit to IKEA but that's it.
I grew up saying Pop, but now say Soda. My kids still don't know what their Mema and Grandpa are talking about when they say Pop.
I fell in love with the South when I discovered Sweet Tea. When dh was job hunting we considered moving back to Ohio (western side though). I had "No Sweet Tea at Restaurants" very high on my Cons list. Stirring Sugar or Splenda into cold tea is just plain silly. :stir:

OK, we'll have to compare accents when we meet in person. I have heard about (aboot) the 'ou' sounds but I swear I am saying them normally (meaning like everyone else) - you guy (youz guyz) will have to be the judge. We have University and College. University is generally a bit more 'higher learning' than College (and more $$). PhD, MD, BSc etc come from University while College often focuses on trades. I am not sure about the whole freshman softmore thing - we don't have that at all. Highschool is Gr 9-12 and then on to College or University. When it is HIghschool or College week on Jeopardy I am always confused as to how old the kids are because they introduce them as 'Junior' or 'Freshman' or whatever - no idea. Another big difference I think is emphasis on sports. Our cheerleaders in general are a bit of a joke - but some of your teams are unbelievable - and they start in like grade school for goodness sakes!! Our afterschool sports are not really all that huge either - not like your football teams. But (and it's a BIG BUT) almost all kids either skate or play hockey - it is definately a Canadian phenomena!! (OK, I spelt that wrong for sure!). Did you guys know our national sport is actually Lacrosse, not Hockey? Also - we invented Basketball (but try and tell our Raptors lol).

Oh Shell....Shell....Shell. :rotfl:
Unfortunately Rush for the most part are a bit of a Canadian joke. Now, they do have their fans, but they also are the butt of many jokes about Canadian stereotypes - like when about 10 kids, complete with lumber jackets and mullets pulled into the quarry swimming hole we had occupied this summer and were hanging out by their truck, drinking Blue (kinda low-brow CDN beer) and crankin' the Rush - just sad :sad2: buncha hicks.
If you want to hear some pretty funny 'downhome' Canadian music try searching for Stompin' Tom Connors on soulseek or kazaa or whatever - Tom is definately Canadiana (and pretty funny).

Gee, Sarah...for a joke, it seems like Canada took them pretty seriously...
November- Rush wins Group Of The Decade in Canada. They were voted the group who has made the most significant contributions to the Canadian music industry both domestically and internationally in the period 1980- to 1989.
December- Rush wins Mayor's Award at the Toronto Music Awards. This award is the most revered of all the Toronto Music Awards
October- Rush was honoured with the "Harold Moon Award" by the Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN). It is the most prestigious songwriter's award in Canada.
I'm willing to learn...are these bogus awards? Its not gonna change my mind, I still love their music...but I am curious.

Good Evening Nanaheads!!!
You know you're from/in Michigan ...
You bake with SODA and drink POP.
You show people where you're from by pointing to a spot on the back
of your left hand.
The only place in the world can you experience all four seasons in one day.
You know what a 'party store' is.
"Vacation" means going to Cedar Point.
At least one member of your family disowns you the week of the
Michigan / Michigan State game.
Your idea of a traffic jam is 40 cars waiting to pass an orange barrel.
Half the change in your pocket is Canadian....eh?
You know how to play (and pronounce) Euchre.
It's easy to get Vernor's ginger ale, Better Made chips, Sanders hot fudge
sauce, and Faygo pop.
You've had to switch on the heat and the air conditioning in the same day.
The movie "Escanaba in Da Moonlight" wasn't funny. You consider it
a documentary.
Your little league game was snowed out.
The word "thumb" has geographical rather than anatomical significance.
When owning a Japanese car was a hangin' offense in your hometown.
You believe that "down south" means Toledo.
Your idea of a seven-course meal is a six-pack and a bucket of smelt.
You know that Big Mac is something that you drive over.
You carry jumper cables and snow chains in your trunk.
You design your kids' Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
Driving in the winter is better because the pot-holes are filled with snow.
Your favorite holidays are Christmas,Thanksgiving, and the opening of
Deer Season, which you consider a National Holiday.
You learned to drive a boat before you could ride a bike.
You owe more money on your snowmobile than your car.
Your snowblower has more miles on it than your car.
Shoveling the driveway constitutes a great upper body workout.
The "Big Three" means either Ford, Chrysler and GM.
You think alkaline batteries were named after a Tiger outfielder.
Your definition of a small Michigan town is one that doesn't have a lake.
You define summer as three months of bad sledding.
The municipality buys a zamboni before a bus.
You have experienced frostbite and sunburn in the same week.
The orange barrel is considered Michigan's 'other' lighthouse.
Good Night!

As for potted meat, it is a canned luncheon meat made by Hormel. The best way to describe it is a spreadable version of SPAM. It is normally eaten on crackers.
I have to comment on the potted meat-I grew up eating this mixed with mayo on bread. When I took it to school all the kids would laugh at me and ask me if I was eating cat food on bread-It kinda looks like that :rotfl2:
Being from PA too...I have to agree with Jaimie on all of her observations!!

Following Jan's lead, Bob hope you can back me up on these.
You know you are from New Orleans/ The South
Your sunglasses fog up when you step outside
You reinforce your attic to store Mardi Gras beads
Your ancestors are buried above the ground.
You walk on the "banquet" (sidewalk) and stand in the "neutral ground" (area of ground between a two sided street) "by ya mommas" (by your mother's house
Watching "Wild Kingdom" inspires you to write a cookbook.
You take a bite of five-alarm chili and reach for the Tabasco
You sit down to eat boiled crawfish and your host says, "Don't eat the dead ones," and you know what he means.
You don't learn until high school that Mardi Gras is not a national holiday.
No matter where else you go in the world, you are always disappointed in the food.
Your accent sounds nothing like Harry Connick, Jr's
Nothing shocks you. Period. Ever.
Your idea of health food is a baked potato instead of fries with your seafood platter.
You call tomato sauce "red gravy."
You "boo" the mayor on national television.
You cringe every time you hear an actor with a Southern or Cajun accent in a "New Orleans-based" movie or TV show.
You're walking in the French Quarter with a plastic cup of beer. When it starts to rain, you cover your beer instead of your head.
Hope ya'll get a laugh out of these

Several pages back, there were some posts about Spam. Dave likes to eat Spam (I say nasty). We were at the grocery store on Sunday and saw new Spam packaging. The container is now encased in a plastic container. Maybe to keep the smell from being detected???
Heading to w___k soon. :sad2:

Okay, just a little taste of "You Know You're From Georgia If..."
Sweet tea is THE drink. No questions.
You can identify Richard Petty Blue and John Deere Green in the paint store.
You can count from 1 to 88 by using NASCAR driver's names based on the car number.
You actually know what a "chigger" is and how to avoid it.
You refer to the Civil War as the "War of Northern Aggression".
You know that when someone says the "Redneck Riviera" that they are referring to Panama City Beach, FL.
When a waitress asks what you want to drink and you say Coke, she asks "What kind?"
"Ya'll" is a word.
Atlanta is known as "The City."
You know the difference between a hillbilly, a redneck, and a Southerner.
The one way to be killed in .5 seconds is to talk about somebody's mama or talk bad to somebody's mama.
Krispy Kreme dounuts are the only kind of dounuts you eat.
Fried chicken is a major part of your diet.
When the Goverment started telling people to stock up on duck tape, you were waaaaaaaaaay ahead of them.
On one side of the road there's Wal-Mart and on the other is a cotton field
You greet people with"Howdy, Whachu doin?"
You know what a 'dawg' is. (And you despise it!)
You know people who consider a six pack and a bug zapper quality entertainment.
The directions to your house include "turn off the paved road."
Your dog and your wallet are both on chains.
You still call the refrigerator the "icebox".
You call it a cold Christmas if you don't break out in a sweat in your new sweater.
Your whole town completely shuts down for 1 inch of snow or just the threat of snow
You know at least three streets named "Peachtree"
You don't know anyone who drinks Pepsi.
The last thing you want to do is give another driver the finger... unless your car is armored, your trigger finger is itchy and your AK-47 has a full clip.

Anyone have any suggestions for a great hotel to stay at in Clearwater Beach or St. Pete. I have been reading too many reviews and people either LOVE or HATE some of these places. Looking for any opinions from DIS folks who I know like at least one thing that i like (DCL). We are considering the Tradewinds Island Grand and Hilton Clearwater Beach. Also open to other suggestions...

Kathy....a rare question about the cruise. Me and the missus are relative "newbies" to this stuff. When do we get our docs? I've heard anywhere from 30 days out to some who don't get theirs until the last week. Any insights?
Have a great day...northerners, southerners, east coast west coast....you're all still the best in my opinion (don't go getting a swelled head Bob...I'm in a mood, ok?)

Okay, I'm not Kathy, and I don't have her wealth of experience on this topic, but on our last cruise, we received our documents about 2 weeks before the cruise. DCL sends them all out at the same time, but if you booked through a TA, the docs may be sent to your TA instead of you. Although it is exciting to get them, there is not anything in there that can be replaced at the port, especially now that you can do the online check-in.
As for the swelled head, mine never swells. I know I am the best, and that is that! :smooth:

Mutt,
tiggerking is right, about 2 weeks before the cruise they mail out the documents. some people have them mailed by their TA and they take a little longer, but you can fill out and print off documents on line now too. Then all you will have to do is fill out the Bahamas customs form. It is just one small paper and they have extra at the port if you need it.
some people leave for vacation way before their cruise and never get their documents, they can get them at the port to fill out if needed.
But check in is so much faster and easier if you fill it out ahead of time, plus they send you luggage tags to put on your suitcses before you leave them to be loaded on the ship. Again they have extras at the terminal if you leave before yours arrive.
Since we live so close we are always among the first to receive them. I will post when they arrive, Not to be rubbing in the fact I have them and you dont :rotfl2: but to let you know they are on their way!!

Shell, when we buy crawfish to boil they come in a sack then we purge them with salt, the dead ones are the ones who were dead BEFORE you poured them into the boiling pot( yes they go into the pot live ) these come out a darker color , than the bright red most are, so we know which ones were dead

3. You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.

Well DH is a very light sleeper so it keep him up till 2am and he got up for work at 5:30am. I did not hear a thing because I am so sleep deprived that I am out when I can sleep ;) ;) ;) !!!
Well I got home from the Mall about 2:30 and was pulling on the TV to watch Gernal Hospital and breaking news a Plane has crashed in an apartment building in the Upper East Side. It was so freaky to see the images because it was like 9-11 again. People were crying and running. Well they have ruled out terrorism for now. A plane with flying in between to buliding. Sounds weird to me!! It just something you don't want to see on the TV again after 9-11!!

A version of yankee swap could be fun. Those kinda trashy or risque things work well in a family or work group where you know the participants well, but . . . let's hold off on the junk - it's too much trouble to pack it, bring it, swap it, just to throw it out on the cruise, because nobody's going to lug junk home.
The other Disney fan website I belong to does a gift game with real gifts annually at Mousefest and a great time is had by all. It takes about 1.5 hours for 40 people.
How about bringing something from our state or local area? Bring one - get one. Then no one has to worry about collecting names or making sure the numbers come out even.

my 2 cents worth,
I think Linda's idea of bring one, get one is a great idea. It makes it so much simpler to do. No need to worry about names or finding out who the secret ant a is.
Just buy something, bring it, put on a table where ever we decide to do this and if you brought a present, you take a present to open.
Once we all agree on what type of swap this will be( with or without drawing names) we can then agree on a time and place to do this on board.
I would like to suggest it be a sea day so we dont have to worry about people on excursions.
I dont know where, there will be events going on in most of the public areas, perhaps by the family pool area. There are tables we could set the gifts on along the walkway , by all the pools with room for several people to gather.
It is just a thought.
I would love to hear some ideas of when and where from everyone else too.
I'm sure someone out there must have a good idea about this.
Speak up so we can make some decisions soon.

Sorry Linda -- I didn't mean bring junk (although I suppose that's the real meaning of Yankee Swap!)!!! I was meaning what you suggested much more eloquently -- bring one, get one. I've also seen versions where people can "trade" or "steal" items from others. But that's not a good way to start the trip!
I also like the idea of "local" gifts since we've spent so much time talking about our local things!

Forgot to add before:
We can either do the regional swap with a pre-determined family as long as the other family isn't from the same region. For example, Denise and I shouldn't have each other.
The 3:00 meet at the Promenade sounds like a good idea; that way we aren't adding a bunch of extra time commitments. (Not that we have anything planned.)

Evening all....
Ok my 2 cents worth.....
At our work xmas party...what we do is an ornament exchange...either nice or not....(nice or ugly ornament) our office staff strives for the ugly ones :goodvibes it keeps things going. Then whoever brings a gift, picks a number. So if 20 people bring one, number 1-20. Then we start with #1..they pick a gift. # 2 goes...they can either take a "new" one from the pile or take someone elses...if they take someone elses...the person who's ornament was taken, takes a new one from the pile. (i hope I explained that good enough). Its a lot of fun and a lot of laughs....I then take all my work ornaments and hang them on a house plant for christmas. Maybe we can do ornaments. xmas decorations are out now.... just a thought.
Lets see who gets voted off...I think Sara was better last night, but she still is not as good as some of the other couples.

Denise,
What you described about "taking" from others is what I had in mind when I incorrectly called it Yankee Swap.
Anyway, the more I think of it, the more I like the idea of getting something "generic" so we don't have to worry about someone coordinating who has whose name and keeping everything secret. So either an ornament or something regional would be a great idea.
DWtS -- poor Willa! I thought she had been doing quite well. Just don't quite see how Sara has made it so far. :confused3 :confused3 Of course, DH is chiming in with how popular country music is, yaddy yaddy yadda! :sad2: At least Jerry (Springer) is good for comic relief! :happytv:

Yes, "Taking" is what happens at the tagrel meet, all the names go in the hat. 1st pick draws 2nd name and so forth. We limit it to one swap per person - that is if someone steals your gift, you have to pick from the pile not steal someone elses, due to the amount of time it would take to steal steal steal.. Time will be the limiting factor if we choose 3 pm on embarkation day, because of muster. Of course we probably won't have 40 people either. (Kids in our gathering had their own swap earlier. This was just for the adults)
Sleep well, Friends.

Good Morning All     ,
Wow I beat Kathy this morning!! Well it's gloomy and rainy day!! I am going to dust and clean so I don't have to do this weekend!! My dad is a retired NYPD so he got a loss prevention job at Sephora so everytime I go to Mall in Rockland I go and say Hi. Well yesterday DS was soooooo happy :teeth: :teeth: to see his Grandpa that it made his day. He even called me and thanked me for being him to say Hi!! I thought that was nice ;) ;) ;) !!! Well last night I went to bed at 9 because I was sooooooooo tired and DH stayed up for Lost. Well talk to you later!!

I think Denise's idea with the oranment exchange and you try in Linda's idea and try to get one from your state to give. I think that would be cool!! Well that is my idea!!

Yep, Lynn you beat me!!
I have been on line for quite awhile but I had 24 e-mails to go through before I posted here this morning.
I like the idea that people have said about bring a gift, take a gift. $10 limit, and either an ornament or something from your region. That would really be easy and quick to do since we only have a short time to do this.
I think as busy as Runa is, that i would be selfish of us to ask her to put together names and such. Lets just keep it easy for everyone with bring one, take one. That makes it easy for anyone who doesnt want to exchange a gift too.
lets hear from everyone today about this because majority rules.
I dont want to put anymore pressure on Runa, she needs to be able to do her work and relax and enjoy the cruise.

I love the idea of some sort of gift exchange during our 3:00 meet!
If we decide to to the regional gift exchange, I hope that we DIScourage people from bringing some of those "tasty" regional treats that we have been talking about recently :scared:
One of the doctors I work with is from Bulgaria, and we are allways having to explain our New Englandisms to him. ;) (we spent a good 10 minutes in a meeting explaining to him how someone could "wrench" their back. "wicked" was another one that took him off gaurd)

Hi athene,
good to hear from you again!! It has been awhile.
For those of you who dont know, Athene is doing back to back 7 day cruises!!! She will be waving bye bye to us and smiling a we leave the ship!!!
Or thumbing her nose at us :rotfl2:
No she wouldnt really do this, I have met her and she and her DH are very niice people. ;) But I would do it if I were still going :rolleyes1
I know this because originally we were going to be doing this with her!!But had to change one week.
I wanted to let any Florida residents know they have posted Florida resident discounts for our cruise now!!! :yay: :yay:
I dont know how long they will keep them posted, so dont wait to check it out.
If you booked through a TA I dont know if you can get the discount or as big a discount a sif you booked directly through disney. It may interfere with the TA's money they make from the booking. So call and ask.
DH is calling about ours this morning. Looks like we will save about $2400.00 total for 2 rooms we have booked.
That will pay off our 3 day cruise next year and some of another cruise we have booked. What a blessing for us!!!! :cloud9:
Pat, call your TA and ask about it today if you can. I dont remember if anyone besides Pat and her family is from Florida, but I wanted to pass the word, just in case. :goodvibes

I think there are three or four families from Florida, but several are related, so that probably covers it, Kathy.
Yesterday, I started a master calendar of everything I have to do between now and Christmas. I';ll put "acquire two gifts" on it. Actually, in the airport, seems to be a good place to get inexpensive regional gifts, so that should be WAY easy.
Happy Day, All!

Good morning Banana Heads
Here's my proposal that hopefully incorporates everything we've mentioned here:
Every family buys one $10ish regional gift (can be a regional ornament) and brings it to the Promenade at 3 p.m. If you brought a gift, you put your name in a "hat", each person pulls from the hat to see which one they take home. People that live in the same area can re-pick (is that a word? :rotfl2: ) if they get similar (e.g. Cheri and Denise, or Kathy and Pat).
Now remember that we're all going to be chatting up a storm and enjoying meeting everyone, so it's going to be a busy time, plus, like Linda pointed out, it's limited due to muster. Therefore, I'm not sure that we'd have time for the white elephant (or whatever you call it in your region!!!).
To support Athene's comment ... NO red-eye gravy, NO turkey privates allowed as "gifts" :lmao:
What do you think? Does it need tweeked?

I LOVE SNOW!!!!!!
We use to live in Bend Oregon at the foot of Mt. Bachelor which is always covered with tons of snow. Several ski resorts there.
we had huge snow drifts a few times taller than me.
When the kids were in school I would go outside and make snowmen and ladies and babies, knit them some clothes for all the neighbors to see!!
Once we had a tall snowman ouside our house when we moved into town and it made the newpaper.
Of course I didnt have to drive in it!!!
OK, Shell I think you have it wrapped up very good. But i have one question??
When we bring the gifts are we suppose to sign a name tag so people will know who it's from or just let them guess by what is inside?? It might be fun to guess. Let me know, it may of been said already but I missed it somewhere along the line.

Steve,
if you read this before you talk to your mom,
go to www.*************.com
find disney cruises, then click on 7 day.
after that look in the dark blue strip on the right side of the page, way up at the top, it should say Florida resident rates, click there and then scroll down to our date and check it out. The discounts are listed by room categories.
Greg already called DCL and got us the discount for our rooms and they did honor the discounts, they just dont publicize it. The first lady Greg talked to told him NO we dont do that, but he asked to speak to her boss and he said Yes we do offer that rate right now and gave it to us. he appologised for the girl but said she was new and didnt know.
We have done this a couple times now.

3. Dead crawfish

5. Scrapple
6. Cleveland Browns anything
7. Rocky Mountain oysters

are you bringing the hat to put names in??
are we each responsible for bringing our name to put in?? I would think so.

My Nanaheads have been busy today!!!
Last I read this morning, the discussion was about a regional gift to exchange. Count us in. I assume it's one gift per person, not family, right? I'll let Bob and Gitta know, as well.
It's been snowing all day in mid-Michigan!!!!! :sad2: I looked out my doorwall (some of youse may call this slider) this morning, and there was snow on the deck and on the pine trees. Pretty, but not so nice this early in October.
Heading to Columbus Saturday morning. Any OSU fans out there who want to wage a bet for this weekend's game????!!!!
Jeff - What about the upcoming Pitt-WVU game???!!! Too bad they aren't playing on their usual Saturday after Thanksgiving. Watching the Mountaineers running down the field in Pittsburgh or Morgantown while we are out in the ocean would be a great event.
Go Tigers!!! :cheer2: So sorry to hear of the tragic death of the young Yankee pitcher.
Have a great evening all. I will go back and read today's posts later. Heading out to dinner (not supper).

It snowed almost all day yesterday! We (Dave) had to scrape snow off the car before we could leave the restaurant. At times, it was blizzard like out there.
Mutt -- Great -- I'll mark you down for a 14 pt spread. My prediction for Saturday is that I'll be buying you a drink the week of 11/25. Your team is #1 in the country. Have confidence.
Gift Exchange - as I understand it: 1 regional $10 limit gift per family to be exchanged at the Promenade Lounge at 3pm (possibly 2:45 pm if majority wants to change the time).
Denise - I like your suggestion of moving our meet time to 2:45pm. Time will go by very fast before we have to depart at 3:45 to get ready for the drill.

I couldn't resist when I found more Michiganisms:
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through18 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might be from Michigan.
If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March, you might live in Michigan.
If you have worn shorts and a coat at the same time, you might live in Michigan.
You know you're a true MICHIGANDER when...
1. "Vacation" means going up north on I-75.
2. You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.
3. You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching.
4. Down South to you means Ohio
5. A Muskrat is something you can eat.
6. Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new pole barn,
7. You go out to fishfry every Friday.
8. Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost.
9. Your doctor tells you to drink Vernors and you know it's not medicine.
10. You know what a Yooper is.
11. You know that UP is a place not a direction
12. You know it's possible to live in a thumb.
13. You understand that when visiting Detroit, the best thing to wear is a Kevlar vest.

Are we wrapping them and writing who they are from?? 2:45 sounds good to meet!!! Just have to make sure DS and DH are feed because they both get cranky when are not feed :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: !!

Denise, when you're done at your house, you can :drive: over to my house. :rotfl2: :rolleyes1 Actually, I've been doing housework this morning since I went to bed early last night.
I'm in for $10/family, regional gift OR ornament (could even try to incorporate Disney) - but no yukky foods :crazy2:,2:45ish at the Promenade Lounge. Gift is wrapped and labeled with givers' names. Those who bring gifts put name in hat and draw name of whose gift they'll receive (unless it's someone from their region and then they can re-draw if they want). Did I miss anything?
Signals @ 1:01 is the "unofficial" meet for anyone interested (or able to be there). . .

Sorry I've been MIA -
What did I miss????? I am going to try and catch up on my reading today. I think I have to go back almost 8 pages !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!
Kelly
Kelly,
The main things we've been chatting about on the last 8 pages are:
1. Weird foods we've eaten
2. Regional humor / phrases we say in our respective regions, etc.
3. What we're doing for a "gift exchange" on the first day of the cruise (instead of Secret Santa :santa: )
Warning -- don't be drinking or eating while you're reading about regional foods & humor -- you are almost guaranteed to snort out loud a few times! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Have a great time at the wedding -- adults-only time -- what's that????!!!! :confused3

Ok...so I had to add my state to the list....
You know you're from New Jersey when...
You don't think of fruit when people mention "The Oranges".
You know that it's called Great Adventure, not Six Flags.
A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter.
You've eaten at a Diner, when you were stoned or drunk, at 3a.m.
You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.
At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from.
You know what a "jug handle" is.
You know that WaWa is a convenience store.
You know that the state isn't all farmland.
You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey -there's the shore and you don't go to the shore, you go "down the Shore". And when you are there, you're not "at the shore", you are "down the Shore".
You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.
You knew that the last sentence had to do with driving.
You know that this is the only "New __" state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try...Mexico,...York, .Hampshire - doesn't work, does it?)
You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich.
You consider putting mayo on a corned beef sandwich a sacrilege.
You don't think "What exit?" is very funny.
You know that people from the 609 area code are "a little different". Yes they are!
The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or localbar.
You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.
You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers. (except for "the Parkway" and "the Turnpike")
Every year you have at least one kid in your class named Tony.
You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos opening credits.
You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of the mall.
You weren't raised in New Jersey -- you were raised in either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey.
You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the state.
You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamberger's and Orbach's.
You've had a Boardwalk cheese steak and vinegar fries.
You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.
You've NEVER, NEVER pumped your own gas.

Whew.....I'm finally all caught up.
1st - did you guys see that Sara quit DWTS and filed for divorce????
Regional food - Does ANYONE know what pork roll is???
The plane crash in NY the other day....my Mom called me at 2:50pm and said "what time is Don landing in Newark" (if you remember he was traveling this week). I say "why?" and then I turn on the tv and at that point all I know is that an airplane has hit a building in New York City. Don was landing at 3:00 at Newark airport - which is right by the city. There were some very tense moments as I waited for Continetal airlines to post that DH was on the ground because it took a while for the news stations to put out the information that it was a small private plane. I was probably more scared at that point in my life than any other time.
Gift Exchange - I LOVE the idea. Count us in.
Thanks for catching me up on everything. You guys rock!
I'll catch up with you all over the weekend.

Hi everyone HAPPY FRIDAY the 13th!!!
Anyone out there superstitious???
This is off our usually light hearted subjects but I wanted to say that I did get confirmation from DCL yesterday that on the Wonder they will No longer have a live house band. That means NO live music at the sail away party.
NO live music in Wave Bands club at night. They will still have a duo in the Pormenade lounge.
I think DCL is trying to save a buck at the guests expense!!
I know this has nothing to do with our cruise or any of you, but we have a cruise booked on 07 on the Wonder. We love the live music on both ships. If we wanted to sit and listen to a DJ playing CD'S we could of stayed home.
I have posted a thread on the main forum about this with copies of the letters I received from DCL if you want to read them. I think they are about post #10 on the thread.
So I am asking a favor from anyone who agrees that this is not fair to the cruisers on the Wonder to write DCL and tell them.
Here is the address: dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com
It will only take 2 minutes to do, just one sentence will get the point across,
simply state: we want our live band back on the Wonder!!
That is all there is to it.
I know DCL will listen if they get enough letters.
So far I have about 70 letters in 2 days but it takes about 300 to get DCL's attention.
Well thanks for listening even if you dont write.
The only changes on the Magic was the house band will break down and be the duo in the Promenade lounge and will be in different areas of the ship. I do not know if the Steel band will still be by the pool areas. they didnt say.
well thanks for listening to my complaining, but this is important to me as we really would be unhappy if we dont have a live band, we may even cancel the Wonder cruise. I dont want that to happen.
Ok enough of that bad stuff!!
it is pretty warm here today, NO SNOW just sun. :sunny:
No black cats crossing our paths today as we went on a walk. So I guess it is going to be a good day here.
will check back later,
Kathy

:sunny: afternoon all....
Well I am just about done with my housework. Needed as break, my back was really starting to hurt. I washed my kitchen and dinning room floors. dusted and vaccumed all the rooms, did 2 loads of laundry now the only thing I have left is to clean the two bathrooms and I'm done..... I had to stop and take a break, so when I'm done here I will finish the bathrooms....yea... :cheer2:
Kathy: I will write a letter to DCL, I am soooo looking forward to the sailaway party, that I think if they took that away...it would be just another cruise line. (& I'm such an expierenced cruiser.. :rolleyes1 ) But to me, that what makes Disney in a class by itself.
Well I will check in later.

When navigating a circle...never, Never, NEVER make eye contact with other motorists--apparently, that tells them that you are paying attention to their actions and gives them the "oke-doke" to ignore you. Do I have that correct?
You did forget to mention the driving hazards of "sku-hill" (sp? its been awhile) or as my bro called it Sure-kill expressway--I know, thats more of a Philly thing..and that most Jersey folk know the difference between the white horse and the black horse pikes. Believe it or not, I don't know what you mean... Sure there are lots of one-way streets, but other than that, left turns are okay...really. Now when you get directions from a Pittsburgher that's another thing altogether. "Turn left where the Arby's used to be and then a right on that road with no name before you come upon the new building where the new company is located and then park your car and walk two blocks and you're there." :-)
No one knows the names of streets here - it's all about landmarks..and better yet things that USED to be there!

Ok Shell I got one for you. I was just out running an errand and the radio station I listen to is giving away tickets for a Def Leppard concert coming up in Nov. Journey will be with them.
As someone on this board said earlier it's a good thing I wasn't drinking, I would have had Diet Coke (that's REAL Diet Coke)coming out of my nose.
They will be playing in the TD Waterhouse ARENA, that's where the Magic play, so you can let Mutt know, that not only do us Southerners drink sugar in our tea, we can pack an arena full of Def Leppard/Journey fans.
By the way did you ever wear him down enough to go see them?

:rotfl2: Well Steve, I lost that battle. But it was a honorable fight to the end. You see, Bill eventually explained his rationale to me in terms I could understand:
Def Leppard/Journey tickets for 2 = 21.75 vodka-based drinks on the cruise. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2/woogal/DrinkTooMuch.gif
Well, as you can clearly see, I didn't stand a chance with that kind of logic coming at me! And honestly, the night they were here, they were performing at our outdoor concert venue and it was a cold, drizzy night so I suspect that it wasn't all that pleasant being there.

Kathy - I will see what I can do to help you out with your Wonder(ful) band request.
Finally got through that CPR/First Aid class. It took much longer then I expected. I do the infant cpr classes also. Glad that that is behind me, for another year anyway.
Today is the anniversary of my daddy's death. It really hit me when I had to write the date. :sad2: I never thought about it being FRIDAY the 13th.
Shell - I think it was you who said that you don't think of FL when you hear Miami. Well, guess what...we don't either! In fact we think of it as another
country :) Mt Dora is about 45 - 60 minutes away from us. In fact, they have a large craft show each year that we go to.
Hope you all have a great evening.

Conspiracy theory: It's all fixed!!!!!! Did everyone notice our very own Kathy the rabble-rouser getting everybody up in flames about the quality of entertainment on the Wonder over on the main board? All I can say is 'YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!'
So, with this new job comes a WHOLE LOT of new work. I am defiantely feeling the pinch. I am worried I have so much to do for the cruise and no time to do it in. I looked at my ticker and it's only a month and a half away - YIKES!!!!!!!!
I suppose we'll make it come hell or high water and I shouldn't stress about the small stuff but I just want everything to be so nice and that involves tuxes and Dockers for DH (2 things he has never attempted LOL) and hoping that DSs summer clothes still fit - not to mention hoping my formal and semi formal stuff still fits LOL. Oh well, when you see the ill-fitted grumpy looking family drinking Export and telling everyone to take off eh you will know how my prep work went LOL.
Anyway, all is well here - DH is on his way to Chicage (hi to all our Illinois friends  ). He is driving so I hope the weather holds for him. There is some car show thingy down there so hope all goes well. DS and I are holding the fort with DD (dear dog) this weekend and it is supposed to be COLD so we'll likely spend a fair amount of time indoors. Maybe I could drag DS to the Mall to get our regional-non-food-ornament-Disney-influenced-under $10-piece of junk but not junk for the Yankee-but not Yankee-stealing match at 3pm-no 2:45pm-no 1:01 at Signal-no Promenade-CALGON TAKE ME AWAY :rotfl:

Morning all,
Bill i dont know for sure, the "Host" has deleted a few of my posts when I tried to mention this thread to someone too. There is NO PM messaging there either. I thought about posting my e-mail addrress, but I hate to go that public with it, maybe we should create a new e-mail just to give him and ask him to send an e-mail to one of us because we want to tell him something that we cant post here. Maybe he will respond and then we can tell him?? Does that make sense to you??? I will tell you that I dont know how to set up an e-mail address, my DS did mine, I am a computer "Dummy"!! But if you tell anyone I will deny it!!! So it is up to you if we try this or else I have to wait until DS comes around to help me set up an address, which i can do but it will be a couple of days. let me know what you think??
Tiggerking,
Your right, Minnie is the BOSS of the house, but the other guy is the Boss of the work, which we need to buy all the milk bones, and chew sticks for minnie. She wasnt too happy when we got home because she could smell their 2 dogs on us, she looked at us as if we were traitors or something??She will be especially happy with us this morning as we are heading to Petco to use their self serve BATH!! NOT her favorite thing!!!
Sarah,
Ya that was me on the forum, I posted here briefly about it too!! I am afraid if they get away with it on the Wonder, they will soon do it on the Magic. I love the live music, so I wont let it go down without a fight. I may not get it back, but they will know how I feel.
I posted it on 3 different cruise boards and have got a great response from people, plus I posted about it on upcoming Wonder cruises hoping people will complain when they fill out their comment cards on board as well as e-mail DCL about how they feel.
This sweet, kind, passive granny can turn into a nastyTasmanian devil mighty fast when crossed the wrong way!! I havnt had a good "tussle" in awhile.
The funny thing is, I know I am the only person to write DCL and ask if these rumors were true and they responded to both letters, so they have to know I am behind all of the letters they are getting from people. They may put my name on the "Black" list. I am going to check out my room for ****y traps really good once we board. Maybe Tiggerking will change rooms with me, we are neighbors on board?
Jan, have a great trip, and be sure and spoil those grandkids rotton while you can!!

Good Saturday Morning To You All,
Today I am feeling alittle better but not 100%.DH is painting the hallway because we are our house on the market when we get back from the cruise. We want something bigger and a nice backyard for DS to play!!! Well today I am going to Sam's Club and Babies R US for formula. I love the new Sam's Club Click-N-Pull. You go on the Sam's Club website and order everything you need and when you go to Sam's Club you chart is all ready and all you need to do is pay. It is great for me with DS. Today I am making 2007 calenders with DS pictures for both Grandma's, Aunts and me!! I think that will keep me busy for awhile!!
Are we doing Disney or Regional ornaments for the gift exchange!!
Jan: Wow your Tigers are on Fire!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Have a good trip!!
Denise: When I shop now too it is always for DS and DH!! I learned that I need to treat myself once in awhile to something princess: princess: princess: !!!
Linda: You are too funny :rotfl2: :rotfl2: !! You got all you paperwork for the cruise already?? Lucky :teeth: :teeth: !! I did all that I can on-line last week when DS was napping!! Have fun scrapbooking for the Cure.

Gee Kathy, I hope Disney dosn't blacklist ya!! :rotfl:
Well I at this time actually dont know what my plans are for this weekend. Right now Wally is still sleeping but there was talk of him going for a ride on his bike with a couple of friends. However, the weather isn't that warm and he may not go. So if he does go, I think I will take myself shopping, I need a few more things for the trip. If he dosnt go, most likely we still will go shopping as he still needs a suit. Either way, I will be spending some money today :goodvibes .
Well I willl be back later. Going to get going and get a few things done around here while it's still quite.

Good Saturday Morning, Banana Heads
Just back from the gym ... a cold walk today as it was probably around 40 and quite windy on my way there and back. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2/woogal/coldbanana.gif But like Cheri, we'll be in the 60s starting Monday, which is much more seasonal.
This weekend is one of the saddest of the year for me ... I have to start winterizing the flower beds, which means cutting down and discarding all my once beautiful but now brown and dead annuals and perennials :worried: Plus just over the last few days our leaves changed dramatically and starting falling and blowing everywhere. For those of you bragging about "oh, it's sooooo hot", I say http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2/woogal/2725.gif.
Sarah and Linda: you 2 had me laughing so hard at your descriptions of the "plans" for the meets and gift exchange :rotfl2: . Lynn, I think we agreed on regional gifts.

Greetings all.
It's been a rough week in the jd99 house. DD2 1/2 has pneumonia (for the second time) and thus neither DW or I have gotten any sleep. She is on the mend now but geez what stress...plus I had to attend a fundraiser a few nights ago on no sleep and DW couldn't come because DD2 1/2 was still coughing a bit too much to leave her with a babysitter..even grandma.
Today DW and DD8 are at the mall. All DD8 wanted for her eighth birthday was a day at the mall with mommy -- and NO little sister! Can't say I blame her as the little one is beyond a handful on mall trips. We were very spoiled with DD8 who was well behaved in all social situations, a great restaurant kid, a great airplane kid and never got sick. Take the complete opposite of all that and you have DD 2 1/2.
I think I need a vacation. Good thing I have two coming up. Heading to Tampa/St. Pete a couple of weeks before the cruise with a buddy for the Pitt-South Florida game. :drinking1
Hope everyone is having a great day and that your college teams are winning (mine won last night 52-7 vs. the Disney Hometown team, UCF). That is, unless there are any closet penn state fans out there.. THen I'm afraid I have to tell you I'm saying "Go Blue" today and I don't mean the Nittany Lions. :rotfl2:

well it was a quiet day around here today.
we got Minnie her bath, bought DH some clothes, then took Minnie for a 2 mile walk, and fixed biscuits and gravy for dinner.
Not very exciting but it was a nice day.
Lynn,
Think of this tooth as practice for you, he has MANY, MANY more to come in.
I dont want to be discouraging, but this is only the beginning!!!

:) Evening all:
Wally and I have been talking about the gift exchange and he did bring up some good points (shhhh...dont tell him that I said that) :rolleyes1
When we do our christmas ornament exchange, this is usually a total of 19 people. It takes us a good 1- to 1 1/2 hours to do this. So we were thinking that instead of doing this on the first day with just about an hour to get this done, why dont we do it like Sunday...sea day? We can meet when everyone has nothing planned and do the exchange. If you think this may be getting to complicated, then we can just keep it for saturday afternoon. This was just a thought..
Kathy, questions for you....November, when we sail....5pm do you still have daylight or is it dark out? We turn our clocks, so this time of year for us, 5pm its dark already. Just curious.
Well did not leave the house all day today. Wally got up very late, then decided to cut the lawn, I pulled the garden apart....then he wanted to go out to dinner, but I just didnt feel like it. Then we checked the lottery number and guess what????!!!!! He won 250.00 :wizard: so he was very excited, but we still stayed in. So now plans are getting up early tomorrow, going to breakfast then do some shopping. Hope thoes plans pan out.
Have a great evening everyone.....Oh has anyone gone into cruise trip reports and seen the sail-away video on you-tube? It was soooo neat.....I just cant wait :bounce: I am just warning everyone that when that horn sounds, I will probably start crying..... yeah I know, I'm a huge sap... :teeth:

I'm sitting here listening to the Nebraska/Kansas State game on the radio broadcast via my computer. It was available on Pay-Per-View, but we've been without phone service since Wednesday despite 2 calls to their repair line. (We need to have an active phone line to order PPV on our satellite.) :furious: :furious: Then someone from Verizon called me (on my cell phone) today at 2:30 (our service call was to be between 8:00 & noon today) telling me there had been a cut cable so they wouldn't be out to fix our phone until tomorrow. :furious:
Oh well, I'm saving $29.95 -- Shell how many drinks is that??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Kathy, YOU GO, GIRL! That's what us old ladys are made for - righting the wrongs of the world - crusading - wearing red hats with purple dresses - etc. I'm going after the park management for un-emptied trash cans and dirty bathrooms. I ALWAYS write letters or email or call when something isn't the way it's supposed to be. I SAY GOOD FOR YOU! Disney's bottom line will thank us, in the end!
Lynn, I didn't "get" cruise documents. They're right there on line waiting for you to fill in at your leisure! Hope you feel better, babe.
Shell, I'm sure your end of the ship is just as nice as Kathy's end.

I'll probably have to do a bit of shopping today -- nothing fun, just essentials.
As far as the gift exchange -- I think it may be easiest to keep it on Saturday at 2:45 even though we'll be a bit rushed. By Sunday, it might be too hard to find a time that fits EVERYONE'S schedule. Here's a suggestion -- once all names are in the hat, we'll draw names, distribute gifts and everyone open at about the same time, instead of one at a time while everyone else watches. We'll probably have a chance to show off our gifts before it's time to head to the muster drill.
What do you think??

Howdy everyone,
Just got back from Magic Kingdom. It was a great day to be there. It was around 80 and a nice breeze. There was a lot of people, but not crowded for MK.
They also had a special short parade with a patriotic theme which had characters, a marching band and a lot of guests who were picked to be in it. Some were waving flags, others had hoops they were spinning around and stuff like that. The kids were especially excited to be in the parade down main street. At the end they gathered and had a sing along before they all went off to enjoy the park.
It was a part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration.
We found DH a new pirate shirt to wear on the ship too.
Now my feet are pooped and I am ready for a rest before Minnie realizes it is time for her walk.
I will check back later, I see the bananas have returned with a vengence today.

I too vote for 2:45pm Saturday. I am really bad at remembering things (without my computer dinging at me LOL) so keeping it simple is great with me. I actually tried to get a few things together this weekend for the cruise. So far we have Pirate 1/2 done, tropiclfragilistic (do they even still have that??) anyway, one of the casual nights done (yes the dreaded matching Disney-wear) and formal night pretty much done. All ressies, tickets, trasnportation, excurrsions etc are booked. NOw I just have to concentrate on finishing up getting clothes together and I think we are set. Oh..and contacting Shirley for a basket for DS. I am sure I will think up a few more things pending, but so far things seem pretty OK. Oh year, and of course the last minute haircut, pedi (oh those Canadian winter tootsies need it LOL) and other assorted unmentionables given the male contingent on the board. :rotfl:

I actually wish i was yellow colorblind - those damn bananas are making me NUTS.
finished 15 perpetual calendar books and 8 disney Autograph pages in 15 hours of the 18 hour crop yesterday. Then I was brain dead, and had to go home. It's amazing how much faster one can get places at 5 in the morning with no traffice and at 9 pm on a Saturday night.  : Evening all: This has been a very quite day. I did get all my things together for packing and have them layed out in the spear bedroom on the bed. My little piles...swim wear, sleep wear, sea days, dinner ware...etc I think you get the picture  Thats just my stuff, DH has not even began to think about it. So we usually start him a week in advace and then end up running and doing clothes shopping for him. Even though I have been bugging him for months if he needed any new clothing  . I even have all my luggage pulled out, :thumbsup2 , but hey, I'm not excited about going!! :rolleyes1
Well my DS was supposed to be home all day and helping me complete my signs. He was up and out of the house before 9am and didnt get home until 8pm tonight. So I am watching the amazing race and he comes down, asking if I want to work on my signs.... :confused3 No, I was wanting to do them this afternoon. Oh well, I will pin him down this week and have him help me with them. :)
Well everyone have a great evening, talk with you all tomorrow.

Howdy everyone,
Lynn, purple is my favorite color too!!!
Sarah,
Geoff is a man and his family that are cruising with us on this cruise. they posted on CC and Bill and I both post there on a thread looking for more people to join us.
We want Geoff to come here to post so he could meet everyone, but on CC if you mention the name of any other cruise board they will remove your post immediatly!!! Then they post a stern letter warning you that you cant do that there.
So Bill has sent Geoff an e-mail address to try to get him to write to it so Bill can then tell him about all of us here on the dis boards.
Boy that sounds complicated.?? But if it works we may have a new family joining us here, which would be great.
well got lots of house work to do today. So I'd better get to it, I will check back later!!!

Hey I have an idea for the gift exchange. Still have our get to gether at 245 on the first day, but only draw names and put our cabin number on the piece of paper. Then during the cruise, give your present to the customer service desk and ask them to either send a note to the room about a package being at customer service or have them deliver it for you. You would still have to fess up on the note on the present, but it would make for some interesting dinner conversations. Did you see what I got today? etc.
For the fund. , , , . who do we appreciate.

How about then delivering it ourselves to the cabin number we draw? We can hang it on the fish - I've always looked forward to Fish mail!

I still need to finish my door signs too.
Hey Bill,

Hopefully Geoff will answer you soon. They are a big group and I would love to have them join us. Maybe I will drop a post there later today and encourage him to write to the address you gave him.

Kathy, I'm actually getting to design of our door signs ... amazing, huh? Of course they're not the quality of Mutt's hand-drawn ones, but I think they're cool nonetheless!
Gotta make arrangements for a business trip to AZ and NM in a couple of weeks. That will hopefully make this time waiting for DCL to fly a little quicker. I sure hope so.

Good afternoon all!
Well, I am thoroughly entrenched in the throngs of South Georgia. I am in a little town called Nashville (yes, Ga. has one as well). There are a total of about 5 restaurants at which to dine for lunch (not including McDonald's and Subway). Look it up on Google Earth and you will see that there is NOT a lot around here! And to boot, my hotel is almost 40 miles away due to an agricultural exposition going on in a nearby town (one of the largest in the US).
Woo: You don't have to kill the bananas for me. I actually love to eat them, I just hate seeing 300 of the little buggers dancing before my eyes! ;)
Also, Woo, believe it or not, I don't remember that song. The only song I remember from Twisted Sister is "We're Not Gonna Take It"! :rockband:
Well, back to work now. Have a wonderful day all! Less than 6 weeks and counting!

Lynn, thanks for coming through for us with Woo's hair!!! I used to be able to do DD's hair reasonably well, but since she was a moving target, I always had an excuse if it was messy!!!
Shell -- love the newest Ralphie quote!! Also, did you ever see the video for "I Wanna Rock"? It had some of the people/characters from Animal House. That fact that I can clearly remember it is a bit sad! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Gift Exchange -- I could be wrong, but I think part of the reason we went away from "Secret Santa" was that we were afraid someone might take gifts left outside the staterooms. :confused3 :confused3 I vote to keep things as simple as possible, but I'll go along with whatever everyone else decides. :thumbsup2
Off to Rockford to do a bit of shopping (I didn't go yesterday). DD needs more things for school -- there's always something!

Hey all, just checking in so you don't completely forget about me. We have been extremely busy. The new floors are being installed this week, so we've had to pack and move furniture and things out of the way. I didn't realize how much work it was going to be. But they got a lot of the Pergo wood floors in today. So they might be able to finish sooner and I can start redecorating like I want. We bought a new computer desk and chair. It's a roll top and should look very nice.
I still have done nothing to prepare for the cruise. But I do have several questions. I don't have time to ask them now but they'll be coming soon.
We have decided to put the dog in the kennel while we are going. (if she is still around) She has been doing quite well, but the tumor is growing extremely large. I may have to take her back and have it checked for another infection. We were going to leave her with my MIL, but I just don't trust her to be responsible for all her meds. And I don't want her making any major health decisions. So we will board her, but she won't be happy about it.
Well, need to run. We have to have the TV moved before we go to bed.
Adding to the count: (15)

Linda- Here is what I have learned about the time-suck at work vs. what you can really get done when you are planning for yourself. As a corporate VP muckety muck, i spent most of my time in meetings, on mindless conference calls and dealing with personnel issues. I'm not sure how I kept up my skills for the past seven years, really. Over the past year while working for myself (tomorrow is the first anniversary of my striking out on my own with my consulting business) I have found huge chunks of time to think and do. I work half has much, make twice as much money and am a different human being - more relaxed, more fun and I have more time with my family. My conclusion is that corporate America has sucked the life out of all of us who are a part of it and that's why we have spent so much time bored while in our offices.

Good night all you nanas & turkeys!
Lynn, pixiedust: maybe this will help you feel better. Also, I forgot to ask if you've ever tried baby Ora-Jel for for DS when teething. I use it on DD when she has canker sores or other mouth owies. Seems to work well (I tried it myself! :thumbsup2 ). It may help numb his gums for a while so he (and you) can get some sleep.
Kathy, send some of that nice weather up here to us as well! It was a gray drizzly day -- at least there was no frost! Unfortunately, Mutt's picture looks quite familiar. :sad2: Hopefully we won't see that scene for several weeks. Also, glad to hear you found a Minnie-sitter! One less thing to worry about.
Linda -- I'm sure the "crime rate" on the ship is pretty low, but perhaps it's best not to take any chances. I've heard reports of disappearing door signs. . .
Carrie, sounds like you are very busy! I'll bet it's exciting to redorate on such a large scale! :cool1: Hope your dog keeps hanging in there. It's so hard to deal with a sick pet. Our beagle had cancer and had to be put to sleep about 3 1/2 years ago. :sad1:
Jeff, I know what you mean about going into business for yourself (and therefore using more problem-solving / thinking skills). DH and I used to be high school teachers and coaches. We figured out that we worked 52+ weeks' worth of time during the school year. Long story short -- we're now in a situation where the harder/smarter we work, the more it pays off. Plus, we aren't so burned out by May that we HAVE to have a summer vacation. We have yet to regret our career change (and yes, we work together!!!!).
I bought DD's pirate outfit tonight -- pretty basic -- just a POTC t-shirt with Orlando Bloom on it and some funky capri's. Both on clearance -- saved enough for a drink or two at dinner, Shell! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Well, looks like the Bears might get their first loss tonight. They just have not played well compared to previous weeks.

Jeff, your analysis was right. Corporate America drains any sense of self. It's so sad. (Bill? CAKES CAKES CAKES!!)
Cheri: Nice job saving for cocktails ... keep up the good work, and meet me in the bar every chance you get :lmao: Oh hey, I don't remember the video for I Wanna Rock too well, but I know we can probably find it on You Tube! Bob, I'll bet if you search for it, you'll remember it, too.
Catch y'all later
I have it in writing and now in my post so that he can't edit it out! :cool1:
Being relatively new to this group, I guess I should be proud :confused3 that I was the one who got Bill and Bob to agree? :rotfl2:
Good morning Banana Heads

Cake decorating, Bill? If so, you have a winner because Corporate America and Cakes together brings out the best part of working - the afternoon Cake Party "Get well, get well soon, we hope you do get well..." For all Seinfeld fans on the board...

Jeff: I don't know if I would count that as one of my finer attributes! Also, you and I are going to have to spend some time talking on the cruise. I know it is dangerous to let two consultants talk, but if we can talk work for a brief period, I would like to hear about you going out on your own. I have a client who actually wants he and I to venture out together next year. I promise not to ruin your vacation! :rotfl2:
Woo: It is funny you and Mutt should mention the cake decorating business. I have thought about opening a dessert cafe many times just so I could spend the days baking! If I were not in consulting, I would most likely be a chef. Even thought about entering Food TV's "Next Food Network Star". That would be a blast! Of course, my absolute dream job would be to travel the country eating at restaurants and reporting on what I find (kind of a Marc Decarlo "Taste of America" type thing). But, alas, no one wants to pay me to do that! :rolleyes1
