Nope, post a picture. We have our costumes from last year. I have to get the rest of my famly hooked up though. There are 12 of us this cruise. My DSis calls me the Director though so I am sure they will dress however I tell them! :lmao: :rotfl:

I'm sorry to hear about all the rain Angie. I swear it is spring here. At 7:30 this morning it was 43. High today is supposed to be 56! :sunny: The puppy (ok so she's a dog, just barely) is going outside to play, get rid of some of the energy.
When we cruised the Wonder in December, nobody dressed up for pirate night. I guess I'll have to get with it and think of something, although I don't think it will involve blue body paint. :)
Nothing new here, Shaun goes back to physical therapy after school. Tomorrow after school we leave for the Iowa Games until Sunday night. We haven't decided if DS will stay home with grandma and grandpa and go to a jazz band thing or if we'll take him with us, depends on what they say today.
Hang in there Jordan pixiedust:

Angie, two of three in our time zone, said "spring is here!" I think they look to phil, willy, and another in Kilnberg, Ont. The two in Ontario say spring is here and phil in penn, says more winter. I like the Canadian groundhogs better. LOL.

"I enjoy sitting out on the wonderful deck 4 padded lounge chairs. But in the cooler months the evenings can get chilly. If you like to relax and listen to the sound of the waves even in the cooler temperatures, then bring a blanket down and snuggle up like I did. Several people who passed me commented on how cozy I looked and why had they not thought of that. I had brought a favorite travel-sized, down comforter with me-it rolled up quite small and was very light. It proved a much better alternative to the scratchy blankets provided in the staterooms. This was also the way I fought off seasickness on our last evening. My mother headed off to the stateroom and became more ill, while I went down to deck 4 with my blanket and felt much better in the fresh air."

submitted about a year and a half ago for the second edition, didn't make it in that time. So if you have submitted, keep up the hope!
My tip in the first edition was about the mickey bars hidden from us adults on the kids menu. That even if you didn't have kids sailing with you, you could still find a favorite theme park treat. I am lactose intolerant and had to have my *** server sneak me a mickey bar, PJ, head server, hunted me down as I was leaving and shook his finger at me, lol. Mickey bars don't count as milk, lol.

Hi everyone! Been busy the last few days and boy did I have a lot to catch up on here on our thread!!!!! :surfweb:
Are there any teachers on our thread? I need an opinion hopefully someone can help...originally DS was going to miss 4 days of school to go on this cruise. Well, the 06-07 calendar came out and the district changed the dates so now he'll miss 7 days of school! :guilty: Is that too much for a 3rd grader? I'm not even sure what the school rules are either, I wasn't worried about it for 4 days, but 7 is a lot more. Oh, and then they're off of school for 4 weeks after that! Previous years they've had 3 weeks, so 4 weeks is a surprise as well. What do you think? Honest opinions welcomed!!!

Hi Brack--You just send that warm weather up to Iowa. The weather changed this afternoon. Sunny and high of 60, all of sudden at 3:30 rain and down in the 40s. Who can complain for February?
Congrats on being published Penny. Can you believe no one in my family has ever had a mickey bar? I didn't know they exsisted until after our last trip. I think we'll make up for it this next trip. :teeth:

Lisa W.--It's hard to know what to do with the kids. This past December mine missed a whole week (5 days), went back for four, and then were off for 2 weeks for break. , DD is in 4th and DS in 6th. DD missed a lot of review days, she had tests before vacation. DS had semester tests a couple weeks after break. I feel that it is ok for the kids to miss. DD had a lot more "busy work" to do, lots of worksheets. We didn't get them all done and a couple of her teachers said it was ok, she didn't have to do them. Mine are missing 7.5 days for this cruise Wed afternoon, Thurs, Fri, and then the whole week. They'll be back in a week before two weeks for Christmas break.

Mark,
You're going to hate yourself . . . District of Columbia - as in Washington. Going there for a School Board Member lobbying effort with Congress. I will be there represnting the 16th district of Ohio.
Lisa,
I'm not a teacher - I can only tell you that from my experience with our son that 5 days was no problem. BUT, it all depends on the child. We took him out every year to go to disney or on the cruise from 2nd grade through his Junior year of HS. He graduated 4th in his class, and is in an accelerated 6 year medical program to get his MD.
Other kids may not be able to miss a lot of school. I guess we all have to make that call as parents knowing our kids. I know school is important, (I am a school board member after all) but so is time with your family - and traveling can be a HUGE learning experience too.
Just my 2 cents.
Hope you're feeling better Jordan. Stinks getting old, doesn't it?

I may be too old to give an up to date answer but when our DS was in school we would take him out for vacations. Prior to going we would talk to his teachers so that they would know what we were doing. We felt that the time we shared as a family was as important as an education.
Our DS is now 33 years old (in March). He not only graduated from HS but also went to college where he graduated with honors and just this past year graduated with his MBA. He has a very good job. Maybe it didn't hurt him to miss a little school as he was growing up.
By the way he still will take time to go with us on vacation. This past year he and his wife went with us on the DCL and in December he went with us to WDW for a week.It worked for us. :thumbsup2

When we go the boys and are leaving on Nov 29 So they will have 3 days off for thanksgiving then back to school for two then well be there tell dec 16th. back to school for two days and then off tel the 3rd of Jan. So they will miss a lot of school but it will be worth it IMO. I will have one in 2nd and the other will be in 3rd, The teachers will have to deal with it. And I'm not taking homework with us. They can do it on christmass break. If they have tests oh well they'll have a million more before they get out of school. This is the first real familey vacation we are going on, besides trips to the ocean to see familey.

We took the kids and now the GKs out of school a week at a time with no problems in early Dec. They made up any missed work over Christmas Break. We used to take them to DL the last week of May also, but had to stop that when oldest DKS got into high school as that is just before finals. Not a good time to miss. We never had any issues with teachers or schools even through junior high. One DGS had an assignment to "bring his teacher something from the Caribbean"! :lmao: Difficult assignment, he bought her a little bracelet. That was his only make up assignment! 4th grade.

Hi, Tammi. Dennis was starting to feel some chest congestion again today, so he called and got a refill on the antibiotic - just to be sure. But he is feeling much, much better. Thank you for the good thoughts and prayers.
It did rain today. Really heavy last night. We expect really heavy rain on Saturday again I think. "Showers" tomorrow. Starting Sunday they say we will have several days with no rain at all. :sunny: :woohoo:

I didn't look at what the temp will be. It often gets colder when the sun is out in the winter here. That cloud cover keeps us nice and warm. We really have had a very mild winter as far as temperature. We have only gotten into the 30's one night...a clear night. :) Just lots and lots of water, rivers over their banks and the coast towns get really flooded in these wet years.

Thanks for the input everyone regarding taking our son out of school. I wasn't too worried about 5 days, but 7 seems like a lot (I'm thinking of how the teacher will take it). And I'm not worried about him handling it. He's pretty bright and can pick up just fine. Since those 7 days are the last days before the 4 week Christmas break, they spend several days of excitement, parties and celebration....they really don't introduce any new concepts since the kids are going to be gone for 4 weeks. So I'm thinking if there's a time to miss that's probably the best. :confused3
So, for those of you that have pulled your kids out, what exactly did you say to the teacher...I'm taking him out 7 days early because we're going on a Disney cruise? (Can ya tell I'm a novice at this?!?!) I'm thinking his teacher will be looking at me like, "you know he has 4 weeks off of school, why don't you just go then?" And I agree, that's true, but at the same time DH cannot get time off during those 4 weeks (aside for Christmas and New Year's Day), it's a super busy time for him at work and it's not wise to ask for vacation if you want to see your career progress, if you know what I mean. I guess I just say, that's the only time he can get off and family time together is important. Plus, going to see the ruins is educational, right?!?!
UGH!!!

According to the school board handbook it is legal to take the kids out for educational travel...which this is. Last year we were fine...7 days excused by the principal. This year since DS was in 1st grade I made sure that he got all of his class & homework for the time we would miss a couple weeks before & he finished it all before we left. He also took the spelling tests that he would miss ahead of time. We did a travel journal & I submitted a letter outlining everything that we would do one month prior to us leaving. The 7 days the kids were out are unexcused & we got a letter that was ccd to social services. Whatever! :rolleyes2 The kids are alloted 15 days to miss before their promotional status is questioned. If they ever tried to keep DS back...heads would roll all the way to the school board if necessary. :rolleyes1 OK, calming down now. ;)
We will either be out 7 or 8 days for this trip. Ideally, it will be 8 so that we can spend Thursday at MK & then enjoy the resort & DTD on Friday. That will depend on how many days the kids have missed for illness before the cruise. I want to leave enough days for the 2nd half of the year so that it doesn't become an issue.
BuzzBoyMom
02-03-2006, 08:26 AM
Well I'm pushing the envelope big time!!! We'll have our kids out for 6 days for the cruise (leaving Friday) AND THEN - I'm a bad enough mom to want to stay in Floriday and visit parents the week after the cruise...which would mean the kids might miss another 3-4 days depending on the school calendar. Mind you, these 3-4 days are Christmas week...when our school is practicing the school Christmas play and having Christmas parties. So - bring it on....am I a bad mom?!?! I definitely would not do this during the regular year, but not much seems to get done around the holidays in our school.
Now - in another 3-4 years, we are planning a trip to the Great Wall of China! My son wants so bad to walk the Wall. It is his dream (yes he is 8!) But that's gonna be a 2 week trip for sure!
So - I'll be known as the mom who values time with her family vs. the rigors of school. I definitely respect the work and my kids will have theirs done!! But...

Okay, well I'm not going to worry about pulling him out for 7 days and I'll be willing to do whatever they want him to do to make it up, so to speak. I really don't see a lot of learning occuring in holiday school parties and holiday shows, so I'd like to see them argue the point with me. I did find out we have 12 days before their promotion is questioned.
Thanks again everyone!!!

I spent the day at Disneyland/DCA. Actually, we walked in then out of DL; it was too crowded. We went to DCA and rode TOT, Soarin and California Screamin. We spent alot of time just sitting since my back isn't quite right. TOT and Screamin were not the best rides for my back :rolleyes1
I had an allergic reaction to something on Friday and had welts all over my face, scalp, neck and arms.....I think it was the mix of meds. So I stopped taking the stuff for my back. Man, this has been a rough week...but nothing a little trip to DL couldn't solve.....

Well, good morning everyone.
I'm in the airport waiting for the first leg of my flight to DC - actually going through Atlanta, then on to Reagan. Of course the weather took a turn for the worst here again today. Why can't it be in the 40's when I am leaving? Freezing cold again, blizzard -like wind, and just enough snow to make the roads bad for bad drivers.
DD made me feel terrible when I left - crying, made me take a photo of her with me, etc.. Boy, are little girls different than boys! At least she is different then my son was . . .
Lisa, tell Mike I'll try to get in touch with him Monday or during the day Tuesday.
Enjoy the Superbowl everyone. Being a Steelers HATER from waaaaaaaay back, I will be hoping for a Seahawks win.

Busy weekend for us. We went to a club in Portland last night for dinner and a dueling pianos show with Sweatpea (DD), her DH, his family and our other DD (10 of us). The occasion was Dennis' BD and also Sweetpea's FIL BD. This place will do all they can to humiliate the BD folks for a tip. The bigger the tip the more complete the humiliation. We came up with 40 bucks for the tips for the two of them. It was good. :lmao: :rotfl2: Only problem was that Dennis is still not up to par and so did not enjoy "performing" for all of us as much as he would have if he were completely well. It was fun though.
Today is, of course, Superbowl at Sweetpea's. GO SEAHAWKS!! :cheer2: She bought some Corona for me and Coors original for Dennis. :teeth: She is such a good kid! ;)

John, I remember when I was 12 my Daddy left for 2 weeks. I would not even say goodbye to him. I stayed at a friend's house the night before he left. Now, it hurt him I know, BUT my reasoning was that if I didn't see him leave I could just pretend he was just at work. :confused3 He worked rotating shifts at the time and when he was on evening I sometimes wouldn't see him for days. Kind of worked, but... :sad2: Yep, little girls are very different than the boys and they love their Daddys LOTS.

John - Be thankful you are only gone a few days. We took DH to the train station today. DD cried herself to sleep on the way home. :( DS on the other hand is completely indifferent to DH being gone. I also sent you Mike's phone number up there.
I wont be watching the game tonight. If I am not sleeping I will be watching the last episode of Strong Medicine and Missing. That probably wont happen since DD has been kicking me in the ribs for the past three nights after she has crawled into our bed. :rolleyes2

Hey Everyone--
Back from our long weekend away to the Iowa Games. DD had an awesome weekend. We weren't sure how she'd do at her first state competition, she ended up with a 3rd, two 4ths, and a 7th. She was very excited. We're all VERY tired. It was in Dubuque which is 4 hours away. We got home about 6:00, and picked DS up who had stayed with my parents. It's very quiet here with no dogs, I go pick them up from the pet resort tomorrow am.
Sounds like everyone has had busy weekends. Jordan, get to feeling better soon. Vanessa, your DD is sooooo cute. I agree with Lisa W. she looks so sweet and innocent, it makes me think about having another baby. The last time that happened we got our puppy. :)

I booked and paid for our 11 days at wdw on friday, threw D.U. now after all the places I want to eat and all the things I want to do, I think I need to stay longer. :cool1:
I think I'll ask the school wed about how many days we have hear before they whine about it. I am in the class's helping enough that they wouldn't say anything to me, but the district might send a letter. The boys will miss 13 days. Oh well. We will be going to Mexico three times, Japan, Canada (big deal to us- we were just there last weekend again) Italy, China, U.K., France, gee where have I forgotten. how can they (the school) compete with that. If they want to call DSHS let them, I will need a vacation after this trip, and then they goback for two days and are out for three weeks with me, but they will have lots of work to do.
I am going to the big city on tuesday to go luggage shopping. Love to eat at real places like chilis. That is were we will be eating dinner at mco.
Well better go check the other threads. Gotta buy new laptop so slowwwww. :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

Hi Everyone!!! Remember me?!! To say I've been busy with our carnival would be an understatement.
First things first - hope everyone is feeling better. Sounds like lots of ills and sadness. I do hope you guys are all doing better on this fine Moday morning.
I guess we're in this lull of beyond the initial booking excitement and not quite at that point of really making plans for the cruise yet. You guys have been quiet on the chatty aspect. But I personally appreciate that b/c I thought it would take me days to catch up on the thread. So - thanks for not being sooooo chatty.
As far as my carnival ... well, it is done. That event has aged me like you wouldn't believe. From my very rough and quick counts, I'd say we made about $6K for the school. We had about 600-700 people come thru. I learned a lot. But for new coordinators, I say we did rather well. Lots of people came up to me on Sunday at church and told me they had a great time.
Of course - since every good deed doesn't go unnoticed....get this - so we go into church on Sunday and when we come out...we see that someone has hit our car, took my driver's mirror off and left without saying anything. We were parked on a public street, not the church lot, so who knows who it might be. But - I was so mad. Nothing you can do - filed a police report and now have to spend my week getting it repaired. Yuck.
Okay - that's my life in a nutshell.
Take care!!!! It is good to be back! K

Our hit and run has a $300 deductible. :sad2: I know X2! Both times I was in the car. The first time I pulled over thinking she would too, but she just took off. I was so shocked I did not get the liscense number. The last time Dennis was driving and when we were hit I jumped out of the car and ran after the "lady" and got her liscense number, called the police who said "oh well, you have insurance, right?" GRRRRRR. :furious: Then our insurance company located the person, but after a few months sent a letter saying the debt was "uncollectable", sorry for the loss of you deductible.

Karen--Welcome back to board. Glad the carnival went well. Sorry about your car, that stinks.
Angie--I used to be a die-hard NFL fan, I quit watching a few years ago. I've never liked the Pittsburgh coach (Phil Cowler?) and never forgave Mike Holmgren for leaving Green Bay, but I would have rather seen the seahwks win. I guess there is always next year to look forward too. Congrats on 2100! Of course you guys were chatty today, I was gone. I had to go get the dogs today, and finish b-day shopping for Kaitlyn.
I think the first thing I'll do when we get on board is hit the free pop and ice cream and sit on our verandah. But, Lisa is right, there is so much to do like decide whether I want a smoothie or a daiquiri. :rotfl2:

The more I look at the overseas cruise the more I think we should save our money....for when the girls are older and we can spend a week over there before or after the cruise. It just seems so outrageous!
Thanks for looking at Haley's photo! I had to show her off..in the one picture she is on my knees...she kept crawling over to me and that was the only way we could keep her still! It was an adventure!
Not much going on this week...work...work...work....we are having her party on Sunday so clean house time! How did you save money if you already purchased the insurance???? I don't understand. Once we buy the insurance, that is it. Did DCL let you cancel the insurance & refund you? WOW!
I called and they said you can cancel up until your last payment.

Happy BD to everyone I missed too . . .
Vanessa, we are having Sophia's party on Saturday . . . Princess party with all the little girls from her Kindergarten class.
Lisa G. - Had dinner with your DH tonight in DC at the Capital Brewery and Restaurant across from my hotel here. I can vouch that we only had ONE craft made brew each! Nice to see a familiar friendly face, and he is looking forward to you and the kids visiting soon. :teeth:
I did not meet with my Congressman (actually his aide) until 5:00 today, so I visited the National Mall / Smithsonian and toured the National Museum of Art (Cezzane exhibit - GREAT), The National Archives (Declaration of Independence and Constitution), Natural History Museum, Air and Space Museum, and even had time to get to the top of the Washington Monument! I had my WDW feet on today! While I did not do indepth touring of any of the museums, I got to see the things I really wanted to see. DD would have LOVED the Museum of Natural History. The best part . . . Admission is FREE to everything - an unbelievable wealth of history and amazing things in such a relatively small area. I did'nt even get to three other places I wanted to see!
Washington is so cool!:cool1:
Flight tomorrow at 6:30 am, so I need to pack, and get to bed soon.

I guess that is because it is part of a package. Once you purchase the insurance outright from the company you are just out the money if you cancel the trip before final payment.

I called Access America and spoke with a very very very nice lady who allowed me to change the policy I had to a AAA version. She even back dated the policy to cover all preexisting conditions.
This follows the "it never hurts to ask" concept.
The only notable for anyone else considering doing this: the medical transportaion (I read it as a medical evacuation cost) was significantly lower with AAA than their website version. So if there is any likelihood that you might have to be evac'd from an island, you might not want to purchase the AAA.....BUT ask them the difference.... the very very very nice lady mentioned something about a 2005 version vs. a 2006 version. So the policy coverage might have changed in 2006.

In the mean time, we'll keep busy with our new pool project. Pool company, landscapers, concrete people, construction guys....my backyard is one big mud pit right now. Has anyone ever tried to keep 2 boys out of a mud pit?!!! NOT EASY!!!!

10 MONTHS!!!! This is an exercise in patience. I'm not patient. :) We booked our last cruise three months before we went, and that seemed like waiting forever.
Good luck keeping the boys out of the mud. My DD would do anything to have a pool at home. The last few summers we've had an above ground pool. It was one like Wal-Mart sells that are the big blow up kind but we bought the biggest one they made directly from the company. It worked good but this past summer we weren't home enough to keep treating it and messing with it, then it got a hole in the bottom so it's gone now. DD wants one of the current pools or an in ground pool, so she can practice swimming at home. Somehow the cost and the fact that we're in the middle of Iowa doesn't make an in-ground pool seem logical.
Where do I find the amounts for what the Disney insurance covers? I'd like to check into getting the insurance somewhere else.
My laptop is going psycho on me so it's getting sent in today for repair :headache:  :headache: :badpc: We just got it in October. It just freezees up and doesn't work. It's never been a day without virus protection. They kept saying "It's a software issue", I reinstalled everything yesterday, and guess what? It's not a software issue, now they'll look at it. We'll be down to one computer for 10-14 days. OUCH!

ROFL! :) The second time we used it the rep asked for our AAA number & wouldn't let me get it. I questioned her because the cruise we were going on in a month had that same coverage & I was told that we didn't need to belong to AAA. Well, then she tried to tell me that our current coverage was null & void & we needed to pay for another policy...or the difference in cost between the two. I was so upset that I hung up on her. I called back when I calmed down & asked to talk to a sup. The rep asked if she could help & I told her of the previous call. She said that person was wrong & booked our next cruise with the AAA plan. :)

Gosh Lisa, maybe you got the very very very nice lady that I spoke with.
I kept waiting for them to ask for my AAA member number, but they never even asked. Hmmm...

:rotfl2: For some reason, every time you write that, it makes me laugh. It really conveys how "nice" she was.
Yes, the DIS is what helps me get through the wait! Our last cruise was booked like 20 months before and I thought I'd never make it. This one was a little better...I think 18 months.
Well, right now I'm sitting here reading the DIS with a pint of Ben and Jerry's "The Gobfather." Okay, I'll defend myself by clarifying....there was only a tiny bit left when I pulled it from the freezer (thanks DH!) and I didn't want to dirty a bowl since I figured I'd polish it off while enjoying all your posts.......mmmmm, yummy! :p

The fires in CA sound scary, you guys out there stay safe.
DH had to go to Orange County yesterday and he said he could see a portion of the fire. He said the ashes were everywhere in OC, and that's saying something...it's a huge county! We lived in the Laguna Canyon area in '94 when they had those huge fires. I'll have to admit, that was the most scared I've ever been. I remember driving down a street near our home and I could see huge flames literally on every ridge I turned my head to look at. It was terrifying. We had the car packed up and then encountered grid lock where all you could do was watch the flames. I don't ever want to experience that again, although where we live now, it's a possibility...we basically back up to an ecological preserve called the Santa Rosa Plateau....there's lots and lots of flora there. Eeek!

Good morning everyone!!!
I hope everyone is feeling okay. Lots of sickness going around in my office.
Jordan - hope you guys are okay out there. I can't imagine what it is like to have fires close by your house. You are in our prayers.
Speaking of fires - a friend of a friend asked me if I had any clothes for a family who's house burned to the ground...nothing left. Mom, Dad, 2 kids. So, I sent emails to all my friends, went home that night and you wouldn't believe all the clothes that we got together in 2 days. The response was overwhelming.
One of my friends responded with this verse - 1 Peter 4: 10 -- As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. And I just think about how true that is.
So many give so unselfishly - whether helping a neighbor, saying a prayer for someone in need, always being a friend. And here on the Disboards, it is so nice that so many people seem to care so much about each other - from wishing each other a happy birthday...to asking about a sick family member...
guess I'm just saying thanks!! Thanks for spreading the love.
Not sure why I feel so sentimental this AM...maybe I'm just so darn grateful for everything in my life!!

The cost is $43 per person, $40 per child under 12. I have asked for a date when we need to give him a head count & how he processes payment. I am so far behind on this thread!! I have been soooo busy since we have gotten back from the cruise (feel free to ask any questions). Taking three classes isn't helping and neither is the Girl Scout Cookie sale!! 10 new girls so I had no idea how many cases to get and I have had to go back twice to get more! At least this year youngest DD doesn't get into the cookies without asking like last year. I had to count the boxes everyday just in case! :rotfl2: Plus there is dance, basketball games and practices, Little League meetings.....
I hope everyone gets over whatever is ailing them. Me and 2 DDs were very sick when we got back from the trip. Mine lasted for nearly 2 weeks! It was really just a cold, but I couldn't kick it!
Last night was very exciting! DD 11 was in her school's spelling bee (5th and 6th grade). This is her third year in a row being in it (they have one for the 3-4th grade school also). Last year she was out the first round misspelling restaurant. And we own one!! :lmao: Well, this year she actually WON!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: She was shaking afterwards she was so excited! Her teacher actually went out during her lunch break to get er flowers today. She was so sad that she didn't make it, but 2 of her other teachers, as well as her teacher from last year, were there. She now goes to the county level on March 3rd. We'll have to study this time, but I don't think she really wants to go much farther. It's the National Scripp's one that you see on TV. She isn't nearly that good! :rotfl: But we are very proud of her.
Life seems to be more back to normal so hopefully I will be around more... :smooth:

The 4th edition of PP DCL should be a up for pre-order soon, we got out tips submission release forms last week, for the special needs books they came out about 6 weeks before printing.
They are really good about looking forward to what will be happening with DCL and any surprises/ annoucements ( :stir: Europe,) will be updated on line, so you can add them to your current book. The last edition came out in May 05 and there was an update in August 05, not bad. Amazon says April 9th, so close to that date.

Agree that we will very likely have lots of fun when Penny is around. I'm thinking a meet with Jordan and Penny attending will be lots of fun.

I guess that I wasn't the only one who was busy last night. :) We didn't get home from dinner until almost 10 pm! :scared1: The kids had a blast playing with their friends. I crawled into bed with DD & made myself stay awake until the US team paraded into the stadium...then turned off the TV. Everyone slept in until 8 am!!! :)
The weather is yucky this morning...dreary & raining. :( I have laundry to catch up on & a house to clean. Have a good day everyone!

Good morning! We we have had :sunny: all week and it has been wonderful! We did have some pretty hefty winds with it yesterday, but :sunny: even with wind is welcome here!
We are heading up to Washington State this afternoon to help celebrate my DSis and DBIL 40th wedding anniversary, which was on Feb 9. Today is also DD #2's birthday so the family will all be together to wish her well also. :grouphug: She tells me she is 34 today.....but that cannot be possible. :confused3 She was just learning to ride a bike a short time ago, no wait that was a car....Gosh, somebody is getting OLD!! :teeth:

I just ordered the DOI Princess tickets for next weekend!!! We are on the lower level, at the end opposite the stage. I can't wait to see the kid's faces when we get there. :) I am also very glad that we are not going into DC this weekend...we may not have gotten out with the blizzard moving in. Hoping that it is all cleared up by Friday. :) John, I bet that you are also glad that you are not heading out there tomorrow! How is DD feeling now?

Yes Lisa, I am glad . . . they have no idea how to handle snow there in DC, just like the Carolinas!
Sophia is feeling fine. She went to Chuckie Cheese with her cousin and aunt today. We are getting ready for Sophia's BD party tomorrow - a princess party at our house for her and the eight other girls in her K-garten class.
Tonight the kids from her class perform at halftime of the HS basketball game.

Already did that this afternoon. :) DH said that it was still raining up in DC but he expected to wake up to the white stuff. DD is upset that daddy has snow but it wont snow here. (Don't tell her that my prayers are trying to keep it that way. ;) )

It is the princess show. The kids have never been to anything like this. :) The closest city was Charlotte. DH being in DC is a plus for this. ;) I wish that we lived closer to a metro area sometimes. I really want to take the kids to see the Nutcracker without a weekend trip.

We are headed back up to Washington State today to help my sister deal with some issues with our Dad, who is in a rehab center since Nov (was in the hosp. from Aug to Nov) and our stepmom. It is a 2 hour drive up so we will be gone all day again. I did tell Dennis we HAVE to be home early enough to get at least one load of laundry done. Either that or he will need to stop and buy me some new undies. :teeth: :lmao:
Have a great day everyone. Still :sunny: here. The weatherman did use the s word (snow) as a possibility next weekend. UGH. They REALLY don't know what to do when it snows here. Oregonians refuse to use salt on the road no matter how thick the ice and there simply are not enough snow plows to take care of anything but the very major roads. I just stay home when it snows. :teeth: I'm old enough and have enough leave on the books at work to do that.

Did everyone have a great weekend? We got about 4-6 inches of snow. Enough to be pretty and have fun. DS and I went sledding. I love those inflatable raft-looking sleds. THEY FLY!!!!! We had such a good time. But I'm ready for the snow to go away so we can get our pool project underway. Too many contractors and schedules to coordinate. I'm not having fun!
This weekend was so exhausting that DH and I completely forgot about dropping the car off last night so we can get that mirror fixed. Ooops!!! Guess we will reschedule. We usually don't forget stuff like that. But DH was in bed with the flu all weekend and I was running ginger ale and toast to everyone in the family. That's probably why I couldn't stay awake for Grey's Anatomy.

Oh - and I've started my initial planning for my door signs. We're going with some friends who have never been on a cruise and I'm hoping to make a sign for each day and secretly put it up on their door.....Disney magic!!!

Hey all--
It has been quiet here, only two pages all weekend. I wasn't home all weekdend. Saturday, after I slept until 8:30 , I finished up my Sunday School stuff. Then it was off the state women's prison to do Girl Scouts with moms and daughters.
Yesterday was the qualifying swim meet for state. DD qualified in all five of her events. DS didn't qualify but didn't try real hard either, he was just out for a casual swim yesterday. He said that he didn't have anyone he was trying to beat (other teamates), the clock isn't a motavating factor for him like it is his sister. Only three more meets in the season.
We got home around 5:30 and unpacked everything. DH made a fire and we were getting set to watch the olympics, but DD found Cinderella was on the Disney channel so we ended up watching that. It put us in the Disney mood.
Mark--I was excited this morning when I turned my computer on and the count was less than 300 days. YEAH!!!
Karen--Hope DH is feeling better and that the rest of you stay healthy. I keep thinking I need to start on my signs but I'm waiting for inspiration to hit me (I might be waiting awhile!).
Hope everyone has a great day!! :sunny:

Morning everyone!
Can someone who has cruised in December before tell me what to expect as far as the water temp at CC?
We've only taken one other cruise before (Sept '05) and the temperature was really hot! Gorgeous, but hot.
Will it be too chilly to snorkel? :cold:
Thanks.
