Has anyone really got a free ipod or is it just a trick for you to sign up to their mailing list. My daughter swears this is true and you can get one for free. Me I think they don't give anything out for free so what's the catch. I know you have to get five friends to sign up with you so this might be hard. But do you really get a free ipod. But on a more realitic note- where would be the cheapest place I could buy a mini ipod. Do any of the Black friday sales have them.
This is what my daughter wants for christmas, please help me save some money she only wants the apple. (I really don't want to buy her a different brand because she is a really sweet girl and we won't buy her a cell phone or her own TV so I firgured an Ipod i could do. Thanks, Gina

It is legit (if it's the Gratis one) They covered it on CNN and there Wired did a big story about it. I have some links saved somewhere. .. who knows where in this mess of links I have, LOL.
It's just tough to find 5 people, I've been trying awhile. I decided once I get back from vacation I was just going to get a few Visa/MC gift cards and give to friends/family in other households to complete an offer so that I don't have to feel bad about making them trust it enough to use their own credit card to sign up.
If you know 5 people that you can convince to do referrals for you quickly, then you may be able to get one by Christmas. . . or at least let your daughter know it's on the way.

I just bought a mini ipod for my DD from www.apple.com for $229 plus shipping. Click on the educational link. You can also get one from www.amazon.com with free shipping for $249. You can get the ipod engraved if purchased from apple. Now I'm busy buying accessories for it!

If you don't mind refurbished (meaning it was probably a returned or open box item that has been reconditioned and tested to perform like new according to manufacturers specs) you could try bidding at compusaauctions.com. I got a 15GB white ipod for $141 and they do auction the minis (pink and blue seem to go for the most $$$).

I went to the apple site and education link and it says you have to work at a school. Do you and do you have to prove it to purchase? Thank you.:earsgirl:

I'm in graduate school and every time I've purchased from the Apple Education store, they make me fax a copy of my ID, class schedule or pay stub (I also teach). So, yes, you have to prove you're eligible.

I just put in the info for my DD's school and it went right through. I wasn't asked to fax anything. I was told all students were eligible for the educational discount.

Yes, I walked into the B & M concept store with my union card, paystub, and work ID. (I work at a middle school). They only asked for my Work ID.
I was able to buy the 20 g for $269. The mini is $199, and the U2 one is $20 off.
You wont see it on Black Friday. Apple never goes on sale. However, you may find reconditioned/returns on sale at the B & M store if you have one in your market.

I bought my DD's mini through apple.com, educational link and it was $229. I had no idea it was $199 at the apple store! The mini is sold everywhere for $249 so $199 is a bargain!
