Resort fee?

We will be staying at the Royal Plaza Hotel for 1 night before checking into OKW the next day. When we made the reservation, they said that there would be a $7.00 resort fee. Does anyone know what this fee is for? We will not be using any of the hotel's special services as we will be checking in late afternoon and checking out early the next morning.

Basically, it's a way for hotel companies to squeeze more money out of their guests by adding on charges which don't show up in the base price. Some will even charge a resort fee and still charge you for local calls. Some add on an "Energy Surcharge" ... I paid an extra $3 in Illinois on Tuesday. In addition, these extra fees are all gravy for the hotels since they don't have to pay commisions on them to travel agents. Personally, I think that they should just raise their rates and be done with it.
