Okay just read a thread on Sci-fi and everyone was saying the food is just awfull and the worst food in the world. Have a PS in Feb. because the kids wanted to go last year and we didn't have time. The reason the kids want to go is because of the atmosphere. They won't stop talking about sitting in a car and watching movies. The kids are 7,5,3. Have we made a really bad choice? Are PS is for 2:15 so we have enough time to eat and then watch the parade and be ready for fantasmic at 7:00. I was going to eat the steak on a bun with onion rings because it sounds good and the kids will likely eat pizza or nuggets. Husband isn't sure but reading all the bad reviews he is going to flip and wonder why were going here in the first place.

Help anyone

On our trip this past summer, we went for the first time. The kids loved it. The food was good - not great - but good. The atmosphere was great. I am glad that we did it.

I think that everyone should try it once. Go for the kids and the atmosphere. Go for lunch, stick to burgers, fries and shakes.
I doubt that you would be disappointed.

Well, the burgers are "prefabbed" you know those psudo kind of looking and tasting burger and the rest of it was just okay. I also found it to be very pricey for the quality. The atmosphere is pretty cool, my kids had fun and didn't even notice the food much, they didn't eat it either, but they didn't complain, I think they ate the fries and milk shakes.

I would say go and try it, if you don't like it, well cross it off your list. you never know, everyone has different taste, you may be pleasantly surprised. It is worth going once just to try in my opinion.

PS, I love how you know exactly what you are going to be eating in February, now THAT is planning, lol.

the food isn't the greatest, but it's not bad. the Corn Cheddar Popcorn soup was actually pretty good. Going for lunch is a great idea, still get the ambience but not for a little cheaper. It'll be fun, the kids will have a great time and you'll be too busy with them to notice the food

We've been to Sci Fi twice and enjoyed it both times! Both times we went for lunch and had burgers, onion rings, fries, and shakes - the kids love it and the food was pretty good. DH and I split a burger , with a shake , frys and Orings it was more than enough. To me it is fun and a good place for lunch - I don't think I would try dinner there though. It was pricey but eating counter service anywhere at WDW is pricey too.

We like the Sci-Fi and eat there often. The milkshakes are wonderful!

Stick to the burgers & fries (basic) items and you'll be fine. The atmosphere is great. We go every year just for that! My DD loves it.

We can't go to MGM without our trip to the Sci Fi. We love the atmosphere, and I admit the burgers and fries and shake are good. My dd loves the frisbee you get with the kids meal (extra $$ of course, but hey we're on vacation and she does use them).

I agree with everyone else, burgers for lunch is best. Our dinner was terrible and I thought it was way overpriced. They have fun glow in the dark ice cubes for the kids drinks but they are also very pricey, I think $6? although, it still glows and it's been about 2 months.

We went for dinner and I had the best steak I have ever had there. My 7 y/o recently asked me to "make arrangements to eat there again" the next time we go to Disney. (Little does he know we are going soon! Check out my timer!)

My suggestion would be to eat somewhere else and to go there for coffee/drinks and dessert. That’s what we do every time!

Ate there for lunch in May 2003 and had great food. Hubby and I split a burger and a small salad (the salad was really good) and the kids had some kid of kid type food. The atmosphere was really fun and it was a great place to cool off.

Thanks for all your help. Husband saw the answers and thinks it is still okay to go. He said we'll stick to sharing a meal and give the place a chance. We'll let you know if it works out okay in Feb.

The reason I choose the meal already is I heard from somewhere else that the steak/cheese sandwich is good, and I figured I couldn't go wrong. But I have to admit I plan things right down to a tee except the parks. I know what day were going where and that's it. When we actually get into the parks, I just go with the flow.

We eat at Sci Fi each trip. I like the salad (it has little chuncks of blucheese in it). The kids meals are no more than anywhere else. DH and I share a meal (I also like the bbq chicken)and a salad and enjoy the fun atmosphere! It is really a one of a kind experience. We still have our ice cubes too! Enjoy!:teeth:

We "discovered" Sci-Fi in 2001. We're hooked. Great burgers, fries, and shakes. The atmosphere can't be beat. It is always on our list of eats.

We ate there in 2003, we didn't care for it. DH isn't very picky, but on our trip last month that was the one place that he said "no" to. We prefer 50's Prime Time to Sci-Fi. It's alot of fun & I think the food is better. However, keep in mind, everyone is different, try it, if you don't like it - don't go back.

Sci Fi is the only place my kids say we "have" to go to on each trip. DH & I always share the steak sandwich. Last time he also got a bowl of chili. The kids had the hot dogs. We have always enjoyed the food.

Here's a picture of my HALF of the steak sandwich:

I thought the kids ice cream was enough to share and it was pretty cheap:

Here we are on our last trip. We think this place is fun.

Just a word of caution, I don't remember the food too much because my 8 yr old son just really wanted to get out of there. The darkness and some of the movies scared him a little. He asked me not to take him back there. He doesn't have a problem with the dark rides (i.e. Snow White, Peter Pan) but for some reason this restaurant gave him a bad feeling. He really liked playing in the car in front and was excited when I told him we'd be eating our lunch in a similar car, but when he got in there, he didn't like it.

We had lunch also at the Sci-Fi and had a good time. The kids really liked the idea of eating in the car and watching a movie. The kids had hot dogs and fries and my husband and I slipt a club or turkey sandwich. It was fine for lunch.
Next trip we may try and experience another restaurant at MGM for lunch. You have to try it at least once. Enjoy and have a good time.

Sci-fi is a don't miss on our list. It is a little pricy, the food is not the best, but not bad either. Portions are large. Only thing we really disliked was the shakes, too much chocolate, almost like drinking pure chocolate syrup.
If you have small kids you should know that it is dark and they play old (50's?) monster movie preview type stuff.

I ate at Sci Fi back in 1995 and have not eaten there since. I have been in MGM over 10 times since then and refuse to eat there. It was horrible.

I have eaten there several times and loved it each and every one.

I tend to think the people complaining are people who do not like "boring" food like burgers and fries.

If you are looking for gourmet, or Victoria and Alberts type fare, Sci Fi is not it. They serve plain old burgers, fries and shakes. Yes, it's expensive but so is everything at WDW. This place is very diner-ish.

I prefer this kind of food over V&A's etc. myself. I have very simple tastes.

I think the place is very kids friendly, but very little ones may be afraid of the darkness.

My kids love it. We always go at lunch and honestly, I thought the burgers were pretty good. We like the milkshakes, root beer floats and sundaes.
