We leave for WDW in 19 days and we have been so extremely excited but now we are a little concerned.:(
My brother-in-law and his children came for a visit this past weekend as they wanted to visit us before we leave on our very first "big" holiday and our first time to WDW.::MickeyMo
Just heard from my sister-in-law and they just found out that their little girl has hand, foot, and mouth disease and was contagious while they were here for the weekend!! :scared1:
She thinks its funny :laughing:but I don't really see the humour :mad: and am really concerned!
I know I shouldn't be mad or upset :guilty:as they didn't know when she was here, the thing that's upsetting is that they said today they had heard it was in their daycare before they came and my sister-in-law's a pharmacist and had heard where she worked that quite a few kids in their area had caught it!!
The virus is spread through the air or by touch and the incubation period is 10-14 days and if they do get it they can be contagious for 1-2 weeks and possibly be sick for 7- 10 days!!:eek: How sick the kids get varies as well---I'm sooooo worried it's unbelievable!
I know its premature to worry :worried:but we've paid for everything already, were planning on driving the 31 hours just to experience Christmas at WDW--now I'm worried because we won't know until the last couple of days before we go--I feel like crying:sad1:
I guess the one positive thing about all this is that I was stressing (in a good way though:teeth: ) about how much I had to pack, etc. and this definately makes me think about somethin else;)
Thanks for letting me vent---I just needed to tell someone--didn't want to talk to DH about how it worries me as he might think I was blaming them!:(

My daughter had it when she was little. I had never heard of it and to this day (10 yrs later) this is the first time I had heard anyone else having it. I started to think my Doc was out to lunch. I really don't think its that common or contagious...no one else in the family nor her friends caught it. Never heard of anyone else at her school having it either.

She was never sick at all. She just had spots on her hands and some canker looking sores in her mouth and throat....I recall the Doc giving her a kind of a mouth wash to gargle with. I recall it being abit uncomfortable for her but it didn't stop her at all.

Our niece is fine with it, not sick but has sores in her mouth and a fever. Their other child had it last year, caught it at daycare.
My friend's twins had it and they were so very sick because the ulcers had gone down into their throats--they wouldn't eat or drink because it hurt so bad!

"What is hand, foot and mouth disease?
Hand, foot and mouth disease is an infection caused by a virus. It can occur at any age, but is most likely to affect young children. It usually occurs in the summer and fall.

Hand, foot and mouth disease is usually not a severe illness. It may cause:

fever
headache
sore throat
loss of appetite
lack of energy
small, painful ulcers in the mouth
a skin rash
The skin rash consists of red spots, often topped by small blisters. It usually appears on the hands and feet but can affect other parts of the body as well.

The virus that causes the infection is found in saliva and spreads from person to person through the air or by touch, as do cold viruses. The incubation period (the amount of time you have the virus in your body before getting sick) is about 10-14 days. A child may be contagious for 1 to 2 weeks after getting sick. It is not related to the virus that causes diseases in animals.

There is no treatment for the infection. Antibiotics won't help it go away faster. It may last for 7 to 10 days. "

I just don't want "it" this close to our holiday--especially because it can affect children so differently! I'm selfish I know--sorry
