I was thrilled to get a great AP rate at the AkL but am shocked by the airfare. Travel dates are 11/20/01 from Newark to Orlando and From Orlando to Newark on the 25th.The prices that I was quoted are more than double the resort and other expenses. Any suggestions on where to search for better airfares.

That Sunday after Thanksgiving return flight is what's killing you. I'd change my return date, if I could. Otherwise, good luck, the best you can do is keep checking everyday...but don't wait too long as flights for that weekend fill up fast.

RAV - I live pretty close to you I'm sure (Westfield)! I have the SAME problem! So here's how I'm solving it (I was actually gonna DRIVE down - wanna split the tolls? lol) try this:
http://www.jetblue.com/

You'd have to fly outta JFK instead, but to me the price is SOOOOO worth the drive up there! (What, an hour drive from Newark, and save - probably - hundreds??)

Try it & let me know how it goes!

Hey RAV - what rate did you get for AKL anyway???

If you cannot change the time, maybe you can see if the train will help. Thanksgiving price is crazy. Try Jetblue.com, flying out of JFK instead. If you can leave Nov 19 nite, that's $50 cheaper per person. Also see if you can fly out from LGA, Islip (long island) or even Philly.

ADAMAK - HEY, that's where I'm from - CHILLTOWN - lol. Just moved here to Westfield last year.

I know RAV, you'll think I'm nuts at this point, but I just checked Air Tran too - http://www.airtran.com/ - you can leave from Newark for less ($200 RT) BUT you have to stop in Atlanta, so I guess you can decide. Non-stop from JFK $255, or stop in Atlanta leaving from Newark for $200?

(Guess I'm gonna have to sleep on that one.....)

you would be so much better off flying Jet Blue than Air Tran. if you are flexible enough with the 2 ny area airports try JFk!

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I had in fact checked out these options. Airtran via Atlanta came in with the lowest fare, but long lay over, Jet Blue is only 108.00 less than Continental, and the car to and from JFK would cost more than that. Our son is now in middle school and doesn't feel comfortable missing too many days. It really limits travel dates, and puts us right in the middle of the crowds.

P.S. The rate we had at AKL was the AP rate.

RAV, I'd pull the kid and bring him home on Monday. One day of middle school will not make or break him. Tell your son that I missed 18 days of school my senior year at Villa Walsh (in Morristown) and I got into Princeton, so he can lose the one day at Westfield Middle School (or Pingry?) for the sake of Disney and Mom and Dad saving a few hundred bucks. Wishing you a happy trip.

This must be the un-official NJ Thread! No, I meant RAV, what was the price??? $150, 160 or what?

Thanks!

We're going 11/20-11/26. The extra day was much lower airfare, plus your chances of being bumped on Sunday, the busiest travel day of the year, are very, very high. We paid $198 r/t EWR to MCO non-stop on DL.

You can also look into flying out of PHL. I'm in North Brunswick, and it's only 15 minutes further, and a much nicer airport. Often the flights are much less, and parking is about half the cost.

Hey everyone....

Well, I checked prices w/Airtran for leaving Sunday (11/18) & returning 11/23 (day after Thanksgiving).....(EWR to MCO) The price was $200 Rt (as stated before) - but coming home on Friday was ALOT cheaper than coming home on Saturday (almost $200 cheaper!). The flight leaves EWR at 8:50am & arrives in MCO at 1:50pm (or something like that) - I didn't think that was so bad. Same for Friday, leave at like 4:30 & return around 8:30. Just an FYI!

And hey, I'm going to Jenks Thursday nite to see the Nerds!! Anyone going??? lol :bounce:

Rav.
Cab ride from NJ to JFK is very expensive, but if you can manage to get into Manhattan before taking the cab, that will save you much money. $30 one way anywhere from NYC to JFK.
I don't know where in NJ you're in, but if you can get to the NJ PATH cheaply that's $1.50 one way per person from Newark NJ... That's how I usually fly out of JFK. It's really not that bad.

This is definitely a Jersey thread. :)

If I may make a suggestion --

Do not fly out of LGA over Thanksgiving! I personally think that airport sucks (and it's only 10 miles away!), and a report came out this week that rated it one of the worst airports in the country. More than 30% of the flights to do not leave/arrive on time. Picture how efficient they are on a busy holiday.

Geez, I just checked JetBlue for the flights from 11/20 - 11/25 ... $400 for one person?? How do their "Get Together" fare work?

Southwest is offering $298 RT on those dates out of Long Island Slip.

I don't know how the "get together" fares work, but I know when I put in 2 people (or more since 2 friends have joined the trip) it was only $200. Is no one else going with you? If you are traveling w/someone convince them to fly with you!!
