They are saying 3 weeks. I would say you have about a 50/50 chance it will be open. Popeye's gets you completely soaked though, so you might just want to stick with Dudley Doright that trip. You get pretty wet on Dudley but Popeye gets you wetter than if you had just jumped into the water with all your clothes on. A little cold for late November.

Where do you find out this info. I went to the Universal Studios site and it makes no mention of this planned refurbishment.

I am quite disappointed as that is our favourite water ride at IOA!

Let us know,

Oh no!!! I hope it's back up by early December. I don't care if I have to shiver my butt to the lockers for my change of clothes, I am NOT missing Popeye due to cool weather!!!!!

You will all find me in the restrooms near Popeye blow drying me and my children! LOL!!!

I get some of my information about refurbishments from ioacentral.com The ride attendents at Universal and IoA post there and let us know. Also I have one son who works at Universal and another son who works at IoA. A few weeks ago I let everyone know when Jaws was going down for repairs and also when it was back up again. I wish Universal would list refurbishments on their page but they don't so I try to give everyone a heads up.

Thanks a bunch!

I will definitely check out that site.

It's funny, when Top Thrill Dragster opened at Cedarpoint, there was daily updates on whether it was running that day. Cedarpoint also lists what rides are open for business so to speak, I wish Universal would show its clientele that type of courtesy!

Thanks again,

Thanks for the info phantom! Please continue to keep us updated.

Hey kenneyjo!

Isn't Cedar Point awesome! I have to get back there and try Top Thrill Dragster. The day I went I was too busy with Millenium Force and didn't end up having time for Top Thrill Dragster. :(
NEXT TIME!

I hope all the major rides are up and running in May. Perhaps I lucked out the last two times as all my favorites were operational.

From March through August, very seldom will anything be closed as it is the peak season.

Thanks! That certainly makes me feel better.

I guess the only ride that was down was at Disney and that was Dinosaur. It certainly wasn't a big deal, but you do look forward to going on your favorite rides.

What would cause a ride to be closed at other times of the year besides refurbishing? And if rides are down, how good are the parks about getting them up and running quickly?

All of the rides go through refurbishment even though they aren't broken down. It mostly includes painting, cleaning, etc. General maintenance is done nightly.

They try to schedule these refurbishments when the parks aren't as busy. The water rides are usually done in the winter time. Jaws was done during a peak time as they were having some mechanical problems.

They don't close rides unless they are being refurbished or have a problem with them.
