We have never been to either and would like something that is maybe not too far into the park and kind of close to the Osborne Lights if at all possible....

any reccomendations?

It has been years since I have eaten at MaMa's ... I remember the flatbread pizza being good though.

Sci-Fi was "neat" but the food was a little pricey for what you got. I didn't hate this place like a lot of people do ... but it was your standard Bennigans / Fridays burger fare. Shakes were good.

I think I'd go with Ma Ma's. We mainly went to Sci Fi for the whole car experience thing.

I vote for Mama's it is one of our favorites and close to the Osbourne lights. The restaurant is quieter then Sci Fi, service is very good as is the food.

The Sci Fi is fun. You dine in the dark in cars while clips of old movies and movie commercials plays in the background. The food wasnt bad the last time we were there and we had a great waiter.

My wife and I have never been to either and had the same issue trying to decide where to eat on our MGM day. So we decided to do both on the same day of our upcoming vacation. Sci-Fi for lunch and MM's for the Fantasmic Dinner Package.

Have Fun,

Mama Melrose's is definitely worth it. Very nice atmosphere, great food, good prices. We eat there quite often. Never been to Sci-Fi, but highly recommend Mama's.

We have eaten at both and HIGHLY recommend Mama Mia's over the Sci-Fi. Though the atmosphere is fun here, the food is just so-so. Hubby is NOT a picky eater and he would not finish his meal, even though he was still hungry. Really don't feel it is worth the money. You can go in a look around if you want, especially if it is not busy.

Mama's is not the best Italian food, but it is VERY GOOD. We definately left full and satisfied.

You didn't ask, but the Hollywood and Vine Buffett has a wide selection of very good food. We went there in 2003 for the character breakfast, but arrived just before 11am and were able to choose between both the breakfast and lunch items. Pleased with both and the characters were a lot of fun as well.

Without a doubt Mama Melrose's has WAY better food and service than the Sci-Fi. We've given the Sci-Fi a couple of tries and it has never been a good experience. It's a fun place to see though, and I've heard that the lunch menu is better. For dinner though, Mama's is definitely better!

I would go with Mama Melrose's. We ate there this past May and really enjoyed it as part of the Fantasmic dinner package.

It may be that a lot of people are booking the Fantasmic dinner package at Mama Mia's and want to be done in time for the show. A 5pm PS isn't bad, though. Eat a late breakfast (10:30) or early lunch (11:00) and you should be ready for dinner by 5.

I love just walking around at MGM or sitting on benches and watching others walk (okay, after our first 3-4 rides on the ToT!!!) This park has so much to observe. The more I visit, the better appreciation I have for the Disney mind -- all the little details. Guide books & experts say you can easily do MGM & AK in one day or less each. Yes, you can whirl through, go on the rides, see some shows, and be on your way. But to really get the most out of a park, you have to 'stop & smell the grease paint' so to speak.

Hmmm, wait, this is the restaurant posting area, sorry, got into my 'enjoy the theme parks' mood again.

Which ever you choose, you will certainly appreciate the atmosphere - and isn't that what WDW is all about?

I would have to strongly recommend the 50's Primetime Cafe. This is a wonderful place to dine. The food and the service are great.
