We will be at WDW December 11-17 and would like to do a dinner show one night. Have any of you been to both the Hoop De Doo and Dixie Stampede and if so, which one did you like better? I would also be interested in hearing from anyone that has been to the Dixie Stampede Christmas Show. It will be me, DH, DS, age 22, and his girlfriend, age 22, and DD, age 19.
Thanks!

We haven't been to the Christmas show yet, but are going on Christmas day. My sisters go to the one in Pigeon Forge, TN every year and say it unbelievably beautiful. We have been to both HDD and DS. The shows are very different, so it's difficult to compare them. We love both of them, but considering the ages of your group, and the fact that you would be seeing the Christmas show, I would recommend DS. If you need more specific info. on either show, I would be happy to try to answer any questions you may have.

The Dixie Stampede is Dolly Partons Dinner show. It is located just off I-4 very close to the Downtown Disney area (near Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine...if you are familiar with the area at all). Here is a link to the web page: http://www.dixiestampede.com/
As for the original question, I agree with tarheelmjfan
Hoop and Dixie are very different so to choose one or the other is difficult, but we LOVE them both. I would say Dixie Stampede just because it is the christmas show and it is really beautiful. Those are my two favorite dinner shows, I would go to either one in a heartbeat, can't go wrong either way...
Just a side note so you don't get caught (as they never mentioned it to us at the Dixie Stampede)... If you go to Hoop gratuity is included in the price of your ticket. If you go to the Dixie Stampede it is not so you will need to bring cash for tips (we never carry cash and got caught in an akward situation as we did not know this...most dinner shows include it).

I vote for Hoop De Doo.
Another thing to consider is that Hoop De Doo offers beer and sangria in the admission price (if that matters for you).
Dixie Stampede, just my opinion, is an okay show but on the cheesy side. Also, you do not want to sit too close as we had someone next to us have to receive new food due to the horses kicking up what we hope was "dirt"....

I just received my tickets for DS in the mail today for the Christmas night 6:30 show. We are a group of 10 and and thought that the DS show seemed like an excellent place for Christmas dinner-both fun and meaningful. Last time we went to HDD was probably 10 years ago, and, although we liked it, so far we haven't had the desire to return. We have seen the regular show at DS, but never the Christmas show. And, just another thought....if you haven't already made reservations for HDD, it may be difficult to get a decent (or any) seat at this late date. If you are interested in DS, orders placed prior to Oct. 27 for the Christmas shows receive a discount of $7 adult/$3 kids. :sunny:

CherylDan,
We feel the exact same. We've been to DS twice, and can't wait to return for Christmas. Although we really enjoyed HDDR, and actually always stay at FW, we have no desire to return anytime soon.
Question, did you have to request that DS send your tickets in the mail ahead of time? I ordered our Christmas Day tickets more than two months ago, and the money was taken out of my checking account the next day. We haven't received our tickets in the mail. I just assumed that we would need to pick them up at the ticket window, when we get there. Should I give them a call? By the way, we also have the 6:30 show. See you there! :teeth:
donmil723,
Sorry to hijack your thread. :o

tar,
I called them because I received an e-mail that said to pick up my tickets by 12:00 or they would be cancelled (they were not pre-paid). Since we won't arrive in Orlando until later in the afternoon, that would not work for us. So, I called back to inquire about pre-paying by credit card and having the tickets mailed. I also asked at that time about the early discount, and received that. They were very helpful, and the tickets arrived about 3 days after I called.
We will be the large group acting silly...give us a wave! LOL :sunny:

We were at the DS in June. In case you do not know, there is no silverware and you eat with your fingers. No one told me, and I was not a happy camper. I asked if they had silverware I could use, but the answer was no, that I could have brought my own.
I did not care for it as a previous poster said they thought it was cheezy. but that is my opionion. i was really dissappointed as I thought Dolly Parton would put a much better show on that what we saw.

webmomom was there in June. I am sure she did not see the Christmas show which is the one being asked about. I have heard only great things about the DS Christmas show.
We went to the HDDR last year (7 of us) and while it was kind of cute we are in no hurry to return.

Thanks everyone for your advice and opinions! After talking to everyone in my group and because (1) we already have our HDDR ressie and (2) can always go to DS at Branson, MO, we have decided to go to HDDR this time.
I really appreciate all the helpful replies! Thanks again!
