Dining with 1yo eating machine

Sorry, guys if this has been addressed elsewhere, but search doesn't seem to be working today.

How do they treat kids under 3 for fixed-price meal options? ie. non-buffet meals.
Will they bring a plated meal for my ALWAYS hungry little guy, since he's not paying? Or just little tidbits off the menu, say tofu or rice, or fruit? I know I had to make a PS for him at all of the restaurants that required deposits, so does that mean that if I order him a child entree, he has to pay the child price? I feel a little dumb about this - but this our first time at the world with a little one. A WHOLE new world!

Under 3 is free at buffets (as you're already heard) but pays for whatever they eat everywhere else.... So if you order a child's meal for your son you will be charged for it. This is true of sit down restaurants and counter service. You could just let him eat from your plate for no charge but sounds like he eats enough that a kids meal may be the way to go.

What about the character meals and package dinners?

At the buffet character meals, he is free. Ask your servers to be sure at all others.

I am pretty sure they are free at fixed price meals, but anything ala-carte you would pay for what you order,

MY dd will be one and she will be sharing meals with myself and my dd6 - we may order a side dish of something for her if they have something suitable.

That is correct, under 3 eat free at buffet meals and sitdown fixed price meals(Wispering Canyon at WL, LTT at MK, Princess Story Book Breakfast at Epcot, etc).

At any other sit down restaurants you can either have your little one eat off your plate or order and pay for a meal off the children's menu.

The portions at most WDW table service restaurants tend to be quite large. Unless jr. eats like a horse, you should be able to share with him without going hungry.

they do a tofu side order, but I would expect you would have to pay for it

Yes, *all* the pay one price, fixed price meals (buffet, family style, and pre-plated meals) will be free for your under 3 babe, but any thing you order al a carte at a counter service or sit down restaurant, you will be charged for.

We recently (last week) returned from our wdw trip, and we too have a one year old who eats anyhting and everything we put in front of him. No way could we have shared our plate with him, we would have starved! Anyway we did end up buying him childrens meals at various places and most of the time he ate most all of it so we didn't mind the extra expense. But yes it is nice at those places which don't charge for the little ones, especially when they do tend to eat like a horse.:)

At the rainforest cafe we ordered pasta that both of our kids (4 & 1) just LOVED. I can't remeber how much it was, but the serving was HUGE! We also ate at Cinderellas royal table where he had grilled cheese and I think fries? But my favorites were the ones at our resort POFQ where he could get goldfish crackers instead of fries and applesauce too. We have in the past (Dec) ate at the Princess Breakfast in Norway where it is (or was?) served family style and they just keep bringing it to the table, and your little one would not be charged there. There was a wide variety of fruit and muffins,etc as well as eggs bacon sausage pancakes. Also in April we ate at the cCrystal Palace for the pooh CB where it was equally as delicious with different offerings such as breakfast lasagna- this is a buffet. That's about all I can recall right now, although I have heard that the Trails End buffet in Ft Wilderness is a great deal for your money, if thats a concern.
