Just got a call from all the lushes out Monorailing it tonight.
:sad1: They miss me, they really miss me!! :sad1:
I think they just wanted to rub it in that they're there having a blast and it's pouring rain up here in Maine. Did sound like they were having a wonderful time. :drinking1 :dance3: :drinking1 Even though TDCNala had the world's nastiest Mohito. (or something like that) Brings back SO many fun memories. LOL OK - that's it! By last call or cover charge I'm going to be there next year. If it were around Columbus Day weekend again, that would be PERFECT, especially since I'll be using most of my vacation time for the 15-night DCL repo in August.
<sigh> Back to writing trip note.
Cheers!
Jennifer
I got called too, at least they are thinking of us!

I've been too busy drinking at WDW. ;)
Really, my husband and I met up with the OP of this thread, Lynn, in December and had a great time, except for when my husband told the bus driver it was my birthday and he made the whole bus sing to me. :headache: Well, I guess that was fun for them, watching me want to crawl under the seat.

We start right at 11am here's the order:
1) Rose and Crown - yards of Stella Artois while checking out the shops or just sitting on a bench enjoying a tasty beverage. Boddington's for my wife (if she isn't expecting of course) and mother in law.
2) Canada - a Moosehead (and often times two) from the stand (they usually tap it for the day as we're there). It's early so no Off Kilter yet but we'll be back for more Moose later.
We get some fries for my 3 year old at the McD's stand - as my father in law says, "He's never seen a fry he don't like".
3) Mexico - margaritas for the girls but I go for some nice Dos Equis (this oftens turn into two as well) while sitting on a bench, going on El Rio Del Tiempo multiple times, or doing Kipcot with the little guys. The new Tequila Bar will be an interesting twist come Sept / Oct - I hate the "T" word.
4) Norway - in true Norweigan fashion we go for the Carlsberg beers (huh) unless it happens to be cooler and rainy, then the girls do spiked coffees from the Kringla Bakeri og Kafe. You can spot us under the cover of the Stave Church if its rainy or sitting on the wall outside if it's a nice sunny day.
Maelstrom and checking out the Helly Hansen and the other shops are a must so the drinking must wait as we enjoy Norway (yes we watch the movie).
5) China - by now the Dragon Legend Acrobats could be close to a showtime and if so, we have to watch it. Since we're sitting here it's time for a Tsingtao and maybe an egg roll. This typically turns into two beers as parts of the group wander into shops, the 360 surround movie and enjoy the show.
One more thing to note on China - the girls don't enjoy the Tsingtao and they're sort of in the bag by now. Hopefully they don't get Plum Wine that has become popular with them lately. Yeah they just did - luckily they are happy drinkers that typically make the crowd around them happier - we aren't annoying anyone even though we're a third of the way around and we started early and fast.
6) The Outpost - Casablanca beers for everyone. Don't walk by this without realizing that you're not truly drinking around the world if you miss it.
7) Germany - sometimes we'll do a wine flight but more often these days it's just a Lowenbrau or two and a pretzel. If we don't do wine the girls start drinking slower here, afterall we have a 3 year old so we can't fall over or anything.
Since we have a another little guy now (5 months), my wife can't wait to get back and be part of this again. She hasn't been able to enjoy the frosty beverages of EPCOT in a while.
8) Italy - this is tough. Almost all of us are part Italian but we aren't huge fans of the beers but will tough it out. Luckily we all enjoy the wine flights and that's typically what we'll do.
We've had plenty of beers and we started a while ago so we're sharing wine at this point - don't want anyone to think we're drunkards. We're feeling good but we have our little guy with us and it's been hours since we started. Spreading it out tends to control the levels of the buzz. It's a nice mellow one right now though.
9) America - good ole USA, it's time for a couple nice, simple Bud Lights for me and my father in law. The girls might have one too. we'll check out anyone that's performing at the Pavillon and usually take some time to go see American Adventure as well. It's nice to be home!!
10) Japan - here we go again. My wife and mother in law go straight to the hot Saki. This is where my father in law plays off his inability to hang and grabs a Kaki Gori to stall for a while. I go get Kirin from the Yakitori House and then get me and him another one when he's ready to start again.
Cali rolls are pretty good here so we might split some of them too while listening to the drummers. Good spot for a picture too - love the view from this spot.
11) Morrocco - finally, after taking almost all day to get around to here we can have a Tangerine Cocktail. This very often turns into two each. If you haven't tried this you can get them at the back counter of the Moorish Cafe.
Depending on what we've eaten thus far we might get some hummus too - it's pretty good here but then again, anything might taste good at this point.
12) France - honestly, not my favorite country in the World Showcase but there's some decent options here for a drink. There's the lemonade drink that my wife gets sometimes, a Royal Kir (champagne drink), wine flights or good old Kronenburg beers. I'll usually do beer to not cause too much more damage.
Note: not sure why I don't enjoy France since it has a great bakery, decent drinks, good wine, a pretty good movie and nice shops. I think it might be because we enter EPCOT from the Boardwalk / back entrance and sometimes we turn right at the bridge. As you can see, I like going left to the UK to start the insanity. I think France gets the raw end of the deal in my mind because of this fact only.
By now we're feeling very good (until monring). We've defintely drank a lot but are surprisingly in control. We have to be since we have our 3 year old there. He's had a great day too since we stop and do all the kidcot booths and go on all the rides, etc.
It's almost time for Illuminations and we've seen it so many times that a good seat doesn't really matter. I enjoy heading back to the UK or even Canada and watching from there. Since we're there we might as well fill those yards with some more Stella from Rose and Crown or go to Canada and get some more Moose. This is where we might get a shoot to see Off Kilter depending on the time.
This last drink it the best because we just had a great day and are all together watching a show that always makes me appreciate how lucky I am to have a such a great family.
We're defintely buzzed and happy but hey, it's vacation!!!!
The drinks aren't free but hey, it's vacation!!!!
More often than not this doesn't happen exactly as planned and we spend large amounts of time in certain countries, etc. This is really more what we used to do and looking back, it's pretty impressive. It's about the kids now (including my wife, sons, in laws :-) - whatever they all want to do is fine too. Luckily we all enjoy a beverage many times while at Disney.
Join us if you want - Sept 26th - Oct 12th of this year. We'd be happy to take some others on this Magical Trip Around the World - bring your drinkin hat!!!!!

OK. I gotta say I love this. DH and I were looking for something different to do for our 10 year anniversary there, and this will be perfect. Thanks Monstahs Boys for posting it.
We'll have to do an abbreviated version since we're going to have to drop of the kids at the kids club for only a few hours and the head ache will not be fun, but it'll be worth it. And were leaving the next day anyway. :thumbsup2

Monstahs Boys, I just sent this to the 5 lushes I am going to WDW with in October, I love your itinerary!!!! My DH and I, along with another couple we're traveling with have been drinking around the world before, but the other couple has never experienced the joy and splendor of this quest. One of them actually asked me if we were serious!!
I especially like stop number 11 on your itinerary :drinking1

Hi luvthatduck! how have you been?
Monstah-I was reading your post and LOVING it, because I felt like I was right there. I could picture the countries and stops and it made me so nostalgic for WDW. And then i got to the end of your post and shouted at the computer..."OH MY GOD, THEY WILL BE THERE DURING OUR TRIP!"
We are staying at Y&BC Sept 28-Oct 2...I am not sure of the dates, but it is Saturday check in, Wed check out. We will have to hang at at least one of your stops. It is just the 3 of us, My DH, my DD9 and myself.:cheer2:

At least he didn't try to say that he drinks me under the table everytime we do this - ok ok maybe he does every now and then.
I'm glad everyone enjoyed the post and itinerary. We are quite proud of it ourselves. There's nothing better than a long day in the World Showcase with a (many) beer(s) in your hand as you take a leisurely stroll from place to place.
Wildernesslodgelover - we arrive at the BWV on Sept 26th and are staying a full 2 weeks (whoahhh). Maybe we'll see you there.
Bobump - have fun on your last day at ESPN the Weekend - watch those ponds. The pond story is another classic Disney story that will can wait for another day - but one directly related to the itinerary that was posted. I guarantee that no one else has ever done this while in Disney!!!

Ok, ok....I'll bite! What's the pond story? I am guessing it involves too many of the aforementioned beers and a tumble into water? We need to know!
I will PM you are the date gets closer, and we cab see if we are going to be in Epcot on the same night as you folks. Until then, happy planning!:goodvibes

Howdy Duck!:cool1: Well, I have a negative report on some drinks I had while celebrating my 40th birthday last week! We stayed at the Swan (I was very disappointed in the room, but that's for another thread) and we ordered some mojitos by the pool.
Rule of thumb when drinking...order from the bar and WATCH the bartender make the drinks. I know this rule...but yet my laziness got the best of me and we ordered from the poolside waiter. BTW, we have had MANY mojitos at this pool, and they have always been awesome.
We wanted doubles but the waiter suggested a floater. He warned us that a floater is $5, which was fair of him. But he said a double would just be a double charge for the drink (which we didn't ask how much the drink was...big mistake number 2.)
Sooo, we got our 3 mojitos at once (shared the last one) and they were awful...made with SOUR MIX! Did you hear that? SOUR MIX! I really need to "grow some" and learn to take things back that I am unsatisfied with, but I just have such a hard time with it.
We had some guests visiting us, and in the confusion, I thought DH signed the check, and he thought I did. The next day at checkout...there was a $67 charge from the bar. I requested an itemized bill. They add 18% if you don't sign out with the waiter (which is fine with me, I am a 20 percenter, and I am appalled and embarrassed that neither one of us tipped the guy, but we truly did not see him for a good 45 minutes and we forgot) but that means 3 (sorry azzz) mojitos were $57!!!!:headache: That just kills me. Plus, we had a thermos full of vodka back in our room, but were too lazy to make the trek back up there.
SORRY SO BLOGGY!
Oh, and we also had margaritas at luunchtime at ESPN. Basically $12 glasses of sour mix. I did not even drink half of it.
Duck-when is your next trip scheduled? It is coming up, yes?

Sorry about your bad experience at the Swan, WLL. We always love it there. Come to think of it, the drinks we had by the pool didn't bowl us over either.
I'm thinking April for our next visit to WDW. Gotta convince the wife, however. The kids and I don't need convincing! :lmao:

I had some similar experiences at the AKL pool bar. I was standing at the bar, but got distracted by my cell phone, so I didn't see Bob make my drink. I swear to you, there was NO liquor in there! So as soon as I sipped it back at my seat, I got right back up and brought it back, explaining my lack of satisfaction. After giving me a hard time, he made me another drink. I saw him make it, but it still was not very yummy.
A few years ago, I was at the OKW bar (gurgling suitcase) and I ordered a mojito. That too was awful and I brought it right back. The bartender explained to me that if I was used to fresh mojitos I would not like their version. It was made with Sprite and mint syrup. For all you true mojito drinkers, it should just be rum, sugar, soda water, and fresh mint....then you muddle. Muddle, muddle, muddle, YUM!
I say if you no likey, you bringy back! Drinks are just way too expensive to not get what you want...it's not like it's $1 draft night!

Same thing happened to us a couple years back at the AKL bar - they were using Monin syrup, ugh. We haven't tried ordering one since.
I have a similar $$$ story from the AKL bar from earlier this year - sat with a friend having a few drinks, and I tried the mango sparkler (mango puree and champagne), I'm not quite sure on the name. Of course, I didn't ask the price! DH gets the bill, I glance at it and FREAK out at the price: **$14** for a tiny glass of champagne with mango puree. It was MORE expensive than the most expensive glass of champagne!

Ummm...Forever42...WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN???? I sent you a PM ages ago, and your PM box was full. I want to resend. I met you and your fiance at a PftS a few years ago, and last year my DH and I were disappointed in the event. Got more pricey and, we thought, had less quality. I wanted to get your opinion, if you went last year. I will resend!
Pixiedust-I know you are right. I just hate that I have to ask, "How do you make your mojitos?"when I order. But SPRITE? that's just awful. Come to think of it, I think ours might have had sprite, too.
I make them at home (mojitos) with my own simple syrup, fresh mint and club soda. I do one thing, though, that is sacriledge...I use VODKA!

Life got busy I guess, eep! I've been trolling around the Cruise Line boards lately - we're FINALLY going on our honeymoon, two years late, on an eastern DCL this December. :cloud9: Oh yeah, we got married in '06 :)
I was waiting to see when someone would flip out :upsidedow
We went to two last year and we WERE disappointed in the price increase, of course. We were still happy with the quality, though - we DID miss Inbev and I've heard rumbling that they may not be at the PftS this year either.
We're still going this year though! One by ourselves and one with my brother, our father, and his girlfriend. And maybe one of those City Tastes.
And I went full vegetarian in the meantime, so this will be an interesting FWF!
What about you? Are you doing any FWF?
And I'm making a pitcher of sacrilegious mojitos next weekend for Labor Day - coconut mojitos! I always make them from scratch too (though I'm lazy and just muddle sugar with the lime and rum instead of making simple syrup), but I'm going to try coconut rum this time.

Well, the PftS I went to last year was the very first Saturday of F&W. I am starting to think that maybe that was *not* a "good one" because many people whose opinions I trust, including you, says that last years PftS was still good. I think we will skip this year (we went the last 3 years in a row...or was it 4?) and will reassess next year.
Is it my imagination,or are there none of the signature dinners held at various resort restaurants this year? Like...last year I remember something at Jiko, I think something at Citricos, etc. I did see a dinner event at V&A's for some super duper amount...was it $425 per person? Or maybe I am confusing it with the Bocuse d'or . At any rate, I don't have any great plans for any F&W events, I am sad to say. We are going to be with our DD9, and while we usually let her stay in a kid's club while we are at a PftS (which, at $11 an hour, really adds up!) but many of the events I am interested in are during the afternoon. Kid's Clubs aren't open then.:(
CONGRATS TO YOUUUUU on your wedding, and upcoming honeymoon cruise!:yay: I can't wait to hear all about it. And kudos to you for going veggie. While I am still a confirmed carnivore, my theory is that vegetarians are more "highly evolved" than us meat eaters. I would like to get there "someday"and i am interested how a fellow foodie is handling it. I think I would like to be a pesce/ovo/lacto-terian (LOL, sounds ridiculous) for a few months/years and then reevaluate after awhile. I'll let you give me the lowdown sometime on your trials and tribulations as a veggie!
Mmm, coconut rum! Sounds great, although you do know coconut rum, I believe, has less alcohol that regular rum. So, you may want to do half regular light rum, half coconut. Unless you like weak drinks, which many people do. When making drinks at home, I don't mind a weak drink...but when paying $18 for a mojito...it better BURN my tongue off!
You may like muddling...it does feel like you are "working" for your drink, which is somehow satisfying. But just boil a cup of water with a cup of sugar until the sugar is dissolved and then you can keep that for quite a few days in the fridge. Makes making mojitos a tad bit TOOOO easy, tho!

I think we will skip this year (we went the last 3 years in a row...or was it 4?) and will reassess next year.
Reeeeeeeaaaaallllly? We were at the same one, and considered it our favorite that we've ever been to. How bizarre.
Kid's Clubs aren't open then.:(
Yep, the $425 is the Bocuse d'or. Come on over to the FWF thread, we're discussing it all there. :) Looks like no Signature Dinners or EEs this year, so far.
Thanks!!! We didn't have a real wedding, just ran down to the Kissimmee courthouse then had friends and family for dinner at Jiko. We did it on Oct 27 to .. get this.. be in the thick of the FWF. ;)
And you know, going veggie was something I wanted to do for a long time, and DH finally said to me one night, "You're an adult, do what you want." It just clicked after that, silly me. Let me know if you need any help, and it is COMPLETELY possible to be a foodie and veggie at the same time.
PftS shouldn't be TOO bad, there's still wine and cheese and chocolate and wine and beer and carbs....and wine!
Now come on .. were you in my head an hour ago? I WAS thinking about how it would be weaker, and maybe I want to do half light rum and half coconut rum! I think that may be exactly what I'm doing.
Oh, I think that's my problem - I don't make the simple syrup because I need one more obstacle to keep me from regular mojitos at home. I already normally have club soda, a Costco bag of limes, and a mint plant on the porch.
I have these bikinis, see, and DH expects me to be wearing them on the cruise, and I still have 22 more lbs to lose, AND the FWF coming up and :scared1: So any calories I can shave right now, they go. :(

Oh geez...I don't know how to do multiple quotes!
That is very bizarre about the PftS! I am going to see if i find my original thread where I reviewed it and explained why it didn't seem as good to us. The thing is, DH agreed with me. There have been times where I have said something was not as good, and he has disagreed with me, and vice versa. We always RAVED about PftS and this was the first year we felt it was not as good.
We are going to be there for the fist weekend of F&W but this year the Bocuse thingy is going on that first saturday...so I guess it is a good thing we did not plan on attending PftS!
Funny thing is, I told DH I would like to do a sig dinner, and now there is none!
*sigh* wearing bikinis...yeah, I gotta wear one next weekend amongst a bunch of friends, including some super hot moms. Unfortunately, the wine and cocktails are the last thing I shave off. I know if I did, I would lose weight much quicker (more quickly?)
Did you become a veg to lose weight, or moral reasons, or any other reasons? Personally, for me, it would be moral reasons. I feel like an idiot saying that, because anyone that knows me knows I love a big thick medium rare steak and pork is one of my all time favorites, but I do think it is the right thing to do. I would just be concerned about getting the proper amounts of protein, especially if I go back to my strength training routine.

Oh geez...I don't know how to do multiple quotes!
Pretty easy! Just quote the block of text with the "quote" button. When you get the new window, go through the quote and find where you want to respond to an individual sentence/part, and right after that type in [./quote] without the period. Type your response, then right before the next part of quote from the other person, type in: [.quote] without the period.

Huh! We did another one last year as well, one of the later ones, and it was great - only "bad" part was that my little brother was there, which was nice, but he was a third wheel. ;)
We'll be going to two this year, and maybe a City Taste, so we'll see how it turns out.

I'm conflicted for that first Saturday - it's my birthday and the LAST day of the Adventurer's Club! Part of me wants to go to Pleasure Island for it, but I'm afraid its going to be absolutely nuts and a madhouse. Well, I'm sure it will be! The first Friday, DH's birthday, we'll be there after work with a friend and a group of her coworkers.
And yeah, DH and I decided we'd try branching out this year...nothing really to branch out into!
We'll have to meet up during FWF. :)
*sigh* wearing bikinis...yeah, I gotta wear one next weekend amongst a bunch of friends, including some super hot moms. Unfortunately, the wine and cocktails are the last thing I shave off. I know if I did, I would lose weight much quicker (more quickly?)
Yeeeeeaaah. Hence why I'm posting in this thread, huh? Wine and and such is the hardest for me as well - especially since I got into microbrews a couple years ago, now THOSE are calorie dense. I'm on South Beach again since it's always been my favorite way of eating anyway, so I've given up the starches, and cut down on the drinks, and the exercise (see below).
Moral reasons plus the ever-so-adult "yuck factor" term that I've heard people use. I've never really liked meat, especially red meat, so in the end it wasn't too hard. I transitioned through a Disney cruise and through Food and Wine Festival, which actually wasn't as hard as it might sound. I'm not veg-rabid at all, and DH chooses to eat meat every once in a while when we're eating out, which I feel is his decision. He IS wonderful in that he eats veg at home with me, and if I want to share something when we're eating out, he has no problem.
The protein is no problem! I've actually been lifting heavy since last May, the vast majority of that being veg. I did take a couple months off late last year (holidays+lazy), plus right after the Women Run the World 15k this past May since I hurt my hip. But DH and I lift 2-3x per week, and my deadlift is up to 175x5, squat is at 130x5, etc. My veg protein staples are: low fat Greek yogurt, 75% reduced fat Cabot cheese, tofu, soy meat substitutes, eggs and egg whites, seitan, beans+lentils, and protein shakes. I get between 100-160g protein on any given day.
Here's today:
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 1.5 oz 75% RF cabot cheese, 2 Morningstar sausage patties, 6 mushrooms, 1/4 onion.
Lunch: Paul McCartney's split pea soup (split peas, red lentils, onions, leeks, a little tomato, veg broth, butter), with some Parm and a lot of 75% RF cabot cheese stirred in for extra protein
Dinner: Channa masala with cauliflower added in, and I'm making a raita with LF greek yogurt. Since brother's coming in and he wants to go to the bar next door, I'm probably having a couple rum and diets, too.
Protein is around 100-110g there, I think.
The protein's a little lower because I had two bean dishes that have a little less protein than my tofu dishes. I made a Thai green tofu curry earlier this week, and I'm going to make seitan (wheat gluten) this weekend.
So I definitely get my protein! It takes a little work sometimes, but it's been very rewarding. The only annoying thing is that since my diet was very healthy before (albeit too high in calories+alcohol), I didn't lose any weight going veg.
I'm very wordy this morning!

Is it bad that I am too lazy to even type in the extra [quote] thingys? I am still on my first cup of coffee, so forgive me! But at least now I know how to do it. thanks! I have always wondered....:confused3
I think I will PM you, since we are getting woefully off topic. I can tell you know what you are talking about re: protein and strength training. I almost mentioned trying to get at LEAST 100g protein a day (when I train hard/lift heavy) but I didn't because so many people say, "ÖH, but the FDA says women our age need only about 50g protein!" I didn't feel like getting into the back and forth of explaining the need for high protein.
I am glad we started discussing this...I have been in a funk lately regarding my diet and exercise program, because just 2 years ago I weighed less, had more muscle and just generally FELT better about myself. I need to get back there. I have also considered going veggie for some time, I just worried about a) protein amounts and b) continuing my love of food and cooking and feeling limited. Sounds like you may be just the person I need to talk to!
i'll PM you later. Thanks!:goodvibes

Can I ask what time you're doing yours? We were supposed to do ours on the 26th but we might join yours instead if that's okay with you. The problem is I have a 8:00 am flight out on Sunday so I need to get started early.:drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

Hi again!
I am not sure there are truly "official" places on the monorail line. As long as you stop at each resort and have an adult bevvie, that's "counts!" I know a lot of posters on this thread love the pool bars during the day. I guess at night, you could go to the California Grill lounge, although I think that gets crowded???
I'll scope out the locations when i am there in Sept. My DH will be VERY upset about the OR lounge being closed...I think that might have been his favorite.
P.S....if you aren't properly sauced by visiting the GF, CR and Poly, (and at 3 drinks...who is?:confused3 ) don't forget to hop the boat from the CR and visit the WL. I LOVE  the Territory Lounge. So warm and cozy!

My wife and I are taking my brother, his wife, and two other couples in October for the food & wine and I thought it would be cool to do the "Monorail Crawl" while there, and everyone agreed. The way I have it planned is to hit every hotel off the monorail...and every bar in each hotel. Not sure if we will do this all in one sitting but maybe do an afternoon crawl to all the outdoor bars then head back to eat, maybe jump in the pool and recharge, then go out in the evening for all the indoor bars. No matter what it is going to be a blast with my family and friends.

Luv-Hey there! Thanks for reviving the thread! SOG was ok. I mean, it was a great value for what it was...it just seemed kind of "plain." I would stay there again...excellent location, just not very "Disney" like. Oh, and we did the buffet one night and it was truly awful. Bad food and also the tables around us were dirty our entire meal, stuff on the floor around us, etc.
Since then I have stayed at the SWAN for my 40th (didn't like it as much as the Dolphin, for sure) and drank way too many mojitos by the pool! Then, in September, we stayed at Beach Club and now I am SPOLIED! Again, we did the mojito thing by the pool.
We are trying to plan something for this Sept again. Our passes expire end of Sept and we won't renew for awhile. We want to get one more good trip in!
Hi Robin! That is too bad about the Catwalk...i hadn't even heard of it! We are not big MGM goers...although DD and I rode Rock N Rollercoaster for the first time ever and now she is addicted to it, so i see more MGM trips in our future!
Hi Lynn! The originator! How are you?

I got lucky this year - it seemed like opportunities just kept arising - like a conference in Orlando! Plus, I am writing a guidebook for Disney (adult Disney, if you can believe it, so the Monorail Crawl is research!!)
The crawl was awesome, but I have to admit, we didn't do any signature drinks. We did have a drink in the little bar in Trails End - it was SLAMMED because the NCAA tournament was on TV ( a double bonus for me!)
Then:
* at Wilderness Lodge - they have a pretty darn good Cosmo!
* at Polynesian - a mojito
* at Polynesian pool - a vodka tonic
* at Mizner's - a glass of sparkling wine
* at California Grill - a glass of red wine
So, nothing too exciting, but believe me, we had PLENTY!! Luckily, it was spread over 8 hours....
Sure was fun. I am already mourning the lack of any planned trips coming up. It FEELS like we will never go again, but it does seem like things work out in my favor quite often...:woohoo:
LUCKYBUG618 - Have a GREAT Spring Break! I am envious, since ours just ended. Wish we were just starting too! Wish I could join you on your Crawl, but I will have a drink with you from Seattle...

I realize I am such a monorail crawl poseur, because I never mix up my drinks! If I start with red wine at the first stop, I will be drinking red wine at every stop. Same with chardonnay, or mojitos, or vodka sodas. I do love a good dirty martini, but have found that is doesn't work when making more than 2 or 3 stops maximum! That's just too many dirties.:scared1:
I don't drink cosmos often anymore, but you MUST try the cosmo at Blue Zoo at the Dolphin. Best cosmo I ever had....a little different than the norm.
I have been disappointed with the mojitos on WDW property lately...at the Dolphin is was a mix of sprite and sour mix. (I know technically that is not a WDW resort, but just sayin'!)
An adult guide to Disney, you say? Hmmmm...I am trying to think if I have any suggestions. My DH and I have gone twice sans child, both times for our anniversary (8th and 10th.) I can't say i know of anything that you probably don't already know. We did the Epcot Segway tour, dined at V&A's...hmmm...I will try to think of something to add to the book!
I will say, you should (and you probably already are doing this) have a section about the kids' clubs on property. Every trip we make, we put DD in a kids' club at least once. She has been going since she was 4, and we have actually tried almost all of them, I think. Sandcastle at BCV (her least favorite) Cubs' Den at WL a few times, Simba's Cubhouse at AKL a few times, Neverland at Poly, and her all time favorite that we keep going back to...CAMP DOLPHIN. Miss Thelma has been working there forever and is so well known, great with the kids, etc.
Anyway, I think the camps tie in with your "adults" theme because even if you can't get away without the kiddos, you can at least steal away for a few hours! Oh, Camp Dolphin gives you 2 hours free if you dine at BZ or Shula's.
Just wanted to throw that out there...feel like I am contributing in some way! I love Disney with and without my little princess, so your book is a great idea. Please make sure to let us know when it is finally done!

You are awesome!! Thanks for the idea! Since we are now empty nesters, I didn't even think of adding information on the kids' clubs. However, when we went with my brother's family, I did do some research on them. I will be sure to include a section.
That is why I am writing the book in the first place. Every guidebook has like a paragraph on all of my favorite times to be in The World (Christmas, Food & Wine, etc.), so I decided to do an entire book on the special stuff beyond just rides... I am doing a chapter on each special event, and a chapter on adult Disney.
We were just there for our 10th anniversary, so we did both the Segway and V & A. We really love the Segways - this is our sixth Segway tour, including the Fort Wilderness one, which is really fun, and a non-Disney Segway tour in Celebration. It was really fun - and cheap! The tour guide takes you all over downtown Celebration.
Anyways, thanks tons for your contribution idea for the book. I really need to get it wrapped up!!

excellent idea for a book. So many people that I talk to have NO IDEA that you can go to Disney World 10 times and have 10 different vacations. We get the Fl Resident Seasonal Passes, but we always let them expire and lapse and go to WDW and do things outside of the parks, with and without or 10 year old DD. There are a few rides I enjoy, but the rides are the least of my concern when I am there! Too much else to do. I can't wait to do another Segway tour, the Celebration one sounds fun (and the word "cheap"is alluring, too!)

Where have all the LOTW's gone?

Join us if you want - Aug 28th - Sept 13th of this year. We'd be happy to take some others on this Magical Trip Around the World - bring your drinkin hat!!!!!

I can't believe this thread has all but disappeared - I used to look forward to daily updates from you all. Since I don't get to go as often as I would like, I lived through your trips!
Just planning for an upcoming trip in December (Finally! Hooray!!), and MUST try the Monorail Drink-A-Thon again - it has simply been too long!
I did find a really cute Drink Around the World Showcase passport online - it is FREE with a small shipping charge. The site is DrinkAroundtheWorldShowcase.com; I ordered for our December trip, and will let you know how it goes. I made my own (as I reported long ago on this thread) and was excited to find one already made up and cute. :thumbsup2

Wow, glad you revived the thread. I was quite a regular...cannot believe it has been 15 months since my last post! It was April of 2009 that we purchased the home we are now in. It is a fixer upper in a neighborhood I always dreamed of being in but never thought I could afford. We are enjoying the process, but alas, the budget has taken a hit and WDW trips are fewer and farther between! We went to WDW in Sept 2009 (we always take a fall trip, do MNSSHP and F&W) and stayed at BCV. Went again for a non park trip in May, stayed two nights an AKV-Kidani. Looking to rent points again for our fall trip...but it is really going to have to be on the cheap, as money is tight!
I will check out that passport, sounds so cute! How is your book coming along?

ok this will be our first monorail drink a thon what are the normal stops
Leaving from the Poly so will stop at Tambu and then?
What bar is at GF and CR?
After that do we take a cab to AKL and WL which would be the more efficient way to go WL first or AKL? What about the lounge at CSR?
Also how late are the lounges open in Sept?
TIA

Have you considered staying offsite? There is a special offer through All Ears that you get 3 nights in a 1-bedroom at Sheraton Vistana Villages for only $199 ($225 with tax): http://allears.net/acc/faq_villages.htm . We booked it for our August trip but canceled it because we're doing free dining instead. I know staying offsite is not conducive to drinking around the world ... ;).

So, while they are not monorail resorts, they are MK resorts, so I always start at Fort Wilderness around 3:00 PM. I like their little bar, and sometimes we sit on the porch while we have our drink.
Then we boat to Wilderness lounge and have an appetizer and drink (the lounge opens at 4:00). Sometimes, when we are really committed, we do the pool bars too!
Then we boat to the Contemporary and jump on the monorail. We do Tambu lounge, then Mizners (GF), and try to end at California Grill (Contemporary) for fireworks.
I've never added AKL -- hmmmm.... :lmao:
Shockingly, I've never been in the lounges when they close. Since we always time our ending with fireworks, that is our only concern. Then we bus to downtown Disney (unless MK is still open), to take a bus to our home resort.
Have fun!!! :drinking:

I certainly understand the budget stuff - our business has taken a hit during the economy downturn, so we've also been staying close to home (last time we went was in July, 2009 - I don't think we've ever had a full year between trips since I started my book!) I sure am looking forward to our December trip - love the lights so much!
My book is still moving forward, but slow-going. I had planned to run the marathon in January, but my sister had hip-replacement so we are waiting til January 2012. I think that is my last event to review... In the meantime, still working on Halloween. :hmghost:
Looking forward to this thread taking off again - I've missed you all!

Robinb-Not to sound like a snob...but I really, really, REALLY don't want to stay off site. I actually go to Orlando for other things..I have relatives there. They always say..."why don't you stay with us, we are only 20 minutes away from WDW!." I decline, because staying on property *is* going to Disney for me. I swear, it is not really about the parks for me. When our passes lapse, we do non park WDW trips...always staying on site.
The more I think about it, the more I realize I am NOT being snobby...I don't want to stay at the Hyatt Grand Cypress or any fancy hotel near Disney...I *NEED* to be on Disney property....for reasons I cannot quite explain.:confused3
Your DD is growing sooooo fast! Mine too. *sob* Is your starting middle school this fall? I just can't stand it. I am sad that she has NO interest in the Princesses anymore. I will admit, I see families with little girls dressed up, ooohing and aaahing over everything, and I am a wee bit jealous! My DD would like to venture over to IoA soon. It's killing me!
You know what else is killing me? That she is considered an "adult" and buffets and character meals. She did not even eat her money's worth at the kid's price. Now it kind of makes me rethink booking the buffets (which I LOVE...Boma is my favorite for breakfast AND dinner) because it is not worth it.
disneyholic-looks like our big fall trip has been downsized...looking at renting points to stay in an AKV studio for 2 nights only. We have done MNSSHP *EVERY* year since my DD was 4, so it is a non negotiable tradition as far as I am concerned!
I like that little bar at FW, too! And the Territory Lounge at WL is one of my favorites.
bluejasmine-You are very adventurous, adding AKL in there! I will say...that is a VERY nice lounge (Victoria Falls.) Have a great trip and report back to us!

OK have planned out how we are doing our drink a thon.. We hit AK one morning at RD then head over to AKL for late CS lunch(dont care for CS at AK) and over to Victoria Falls, bus it back to AK and take the bus to WL after that boat to CR, monorail to GF and finally ending at our home resort the Poly Tambu lounge and the our CL Lounge for snacks and cordials..
May try and find out how much taxi is from AKL to WL to cut some of that travel time instead of having to take two buses.. Anyone have any experience?
WIll defanitely report back on our drink a thon!

* at Polynesian - a mojito
* at Polynesian pool - a vodka tonic
* at Mizner's - a glass of sparkling wine
To me , that looks like a quality crawl!
"To crawl, or not to crawl? That is the question!

I wish I could help...but I do not mix drinks. Whatever I start with, I finish with! So, as much as I like margaritas, rum punches etc...I find (for me) I cannot drink more than a few or I will get SICK! I either drink vodka/club soda with lime, mojitos, dirty martinis or wine. Now, if I have a vodka dirty martini (or 3) I will sometimes switch to a vodka/club.
*sigh* I just LOVE the Territory Lounge. Just love it! I also love Mizners at the GF.
Have fun!

Hey - just found out that the site that has the Drink Around the World Showcase passports (www.DrinkAroundtheWorldShowcase.com) now have a personalized passport for the Monorail Drink-a-Thon! They look pretty darn cute, and are free except for shipping and handling... Will definitely enhance our upcoming trip! :thumbsup2

ooooh! Thanks for sharing that. Can't use it this upcoming trip, unfortunately...but I am sure we will use it in the future!
8 more sleeps til I am in THE WORLD! DH, DD and I are staying at The Dolphin for 3 nights. We are going with another family (not as into cocktails as we are, but that's ok) and doing MNSSHP the first night, Epcot and Biergarten the next day...and the following night our DD is spending the night with them in the camper at FW while DH and I enjoy the inaugral Swan/Dolphin Food and Wine Classic! So that night, DH and I *will* be getting our "drink on!"

Have an awesome time - that sounds like a great itinerary. Be sure to post about the Swan/Dolphin Food and Wine Classic - I've been wishing I could try that, but it is a long jaunt from the west coast!

Thank you! Yeah, there is actually a few threads on the restaurants board, and also resorts...some of us are a little concerned because it is open to EVERYONE (I didn't know that when I booked it) and while a wristband for unlimited tastings is $50 (we will have a wristband, but it is basically costing us $10 each...we are paying $149 a night at the Dolphin, but the night of the classic we are paying $169 and getting 2 wristbands) we then found out that anyone can walk up and buy tickets for items (for instance, the 3 oz filet from Shula's will be 4 or 5 tickets).
One of the reasons we don't do Party For The Senses anymore is it got really crowded (and more expensive...and we felt lesser quality items) ...I don't do F&W Fest for the same reason...I hate to wait in line for a tiny morsel of food. It's bad enough at a buffett, but at least at a buffet you can pile your plate high (geez, I sound like a pig, don't I?LOL)
Also, it will only be 6 restaurants (all from the S/D) and they will each only have ONE item. You can have as many as you want...but I was hoping for a little more variety.
Of course, there will also be unlimited booze, so I will definitely get my money's worth!!!:yay:

here is the link I was looking at. Check out the pictures.

After I have a few glasses of wine, I am sure I will be gutsy and stagger up to the Blue Zoo booth and order 5 of those appetizers. Seriously, if I have to wait in a line longer than 3 people for THAT tiny thing, I will not be happy! DH and I were going to this and considering it dinner, but we may have to rethink that. Then again, he could just get 4 of those filets and call it a night.
I am just hoping that since the S/D is a convention hotel, they will have thought this through and they understand crowd control!
Sorry so chatty...that's how I get right before a trip! I love the planning and thinking about *almost* as much as I love the trip itself!:lovestruc

[QUOTE=lark;6709766]The monorail has 4 stops. Three of the four have places with booze. One of the four is 99.9 percent dry -- there is only one place to get booze and its pretty hard to get in. (Plus, you probably wouldn't want to go there if you've been drinking heavily at the other 3.) QUOTE]
I'm just curious which is the one place that you are talking about?

I *think* it was discussed later in the thread that lark was thinking of Club 33, which is actually in Disney LAND, not World. But I am not sure and I don't feel like looking thru all the posts.
Also, The Monorail has 5 stops...right? Including the TTC? MK, TTC, CR, Poly and GF. TTC is pretty darn "dry"" too!:goodvibes

Hi again Lynn! Hi Dagny!
Ok, quick trip report, mainly booze related for this thread.
Thursday-Checked into Dolphin, room 6082, nice view of the fountain (which wasn't running, because the bottom of the fountain was the stage for the band that played for the 1st annuals S/D food and wine classic) and the lake and ToT in the distance.
Had a few vodka/clubs in the room and on the way to MK, where we did the MNSSHP. Got back to the room at 1:30 a.m.
Friday, met friends at Epcot and did all the fun stuff there. Not too crowded (although certainly not empty. Got a FastPass for Soarin at noon, said come back between 5:30 and 6:30...Yikes!) Had an Oktoberfest beer at Germany around 3pm, then a Kirin in Japan, then back to Biergarten for our dinner reservations and the beer flight. Park was SUPER busy after 5pm. I mean...if it had been that busy when we first got there, we would have left. Crazy busy!
Saturday visited our friends at Ft Wilderness...wow, I am in love with that place! Now I want a camper! Anyway, guys hung out at the pool, girls did a canoe ride. Left DD to spend the night there, and DH and I went back to our room at 4pm to get ready for the Food and Wine Classic, held on the "causeway"between the S/D.
I won't do that event again, although maybe next year they will have the kinks worked out. A wristband for unlimited tastings was $50 (and boy would I have been mad had I paid that!) but we basically got them for $10 each. I had the teacher's rate at the Dolphin, $149...but on that night we paid $169.
Anyhoo, we started at about 6 pm. The line for the 3oz Shula Filet was literally 60 people deep. The sushi was chilled, I hate cold sushi, reminds me of supermarket sushi. Ketel One had a booth and I was so excited, but they did some novelty cr@p where ther made a "chocolate martini" into little frozen balls, like dippin dots ice cream (if you know what that is.) I waited in line for 15 minutes and ended up throwing it away.
Best booth was the Sqaure One Vodka, where two bartenders were having a showdown. The girl bartender's drink was the best...I love drinks w/savory herbs. Hers had rosemary and some other herb...and something sweet (sorry, I can't remember) and while it was good, it was a sample size.
Finally, DH and I looked at each other and said, "Lets go to a lounge! I just wanna relax and drink and eat!"
So, about 6:45, we went to Il Mulino. I had a great cocktail...something that usually comes w/gin, but I subbed vodka. It had thyme in it (again with the savory herbs in cocktails...I love it!) and some strawberry something. DH had a mojito. 2 drinks...$28! I have the TiW cared...but still...dayum!
Went to BZ, had apps and a hibiscus mojito.
Sunday was an early lunch at Portobello at DTD and spicy bloody marys!
Anyway, sorry to be so chatty...just wanted to relive the experience a bit! Maybe the F&W Classic at the S/D will be better next year.
Have a magical day, everyone!

Dagny-I just love the Swalphin! Yeah, sounds like there will be some celebrity chefs there next year. Thing is, they leave it open to EVERYONE! So, if you pay $50 for a bracelet/wristband, you are waiting in line with someone who wants to pay a few dollars for a sample for something and then go on with their evening. There are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out.

Any of the L.O.T.W. going to be there next weekend?
Beth and I are going to start at the French Quarter pool bar (Hi Shelly), then take the boat to DTD and stop at the Margarita stand, then grab the bus to the monorail and do our resort hopping before crawling, i mean heading back to FQ.:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1

Ohhh, wish I could be there, lynn! Will you please report back here after your trip with a review...and maybe pictures??
We just booked a cabin at FW for May...going with another family, requested a cabin next to their RV. Also have DVC points rented for a 4 night stay at BLT in Sept. I only have a few more hotels (Poly, GF, CBR and AS) to achieve my goal of staying in every resort at least once.

I have been so busy - I haven't been on the boards for months, and when I jumped in to ask a question, I found some great responses on this, my favorite thread!!
It was good hearing from you all - wish I had an upcoming trip, but I do get to go for Thanksgiving this year! Wish it overlapped with F&W!
