Can someone tell me where would be a good place to relax, throw back a few coctails, and watch the game?? BIG bama fans here, and I will be extremely upset/ no scratch that/ it will kill me if I miss it. Any ideas?? And (just one more dummy newbie question) what is a LOTW?? Just wondering if I am one or if I could be a LOTW in the making! ;) Thanks...

LOTW = "Lush of the World" and yes, I think you are one in the making :).

I would suggest the ESPN Club at The Boardwalk resort. They have TVs in the *bathrooms*. Grab a place in the bar area since you'll be there for hours. The bar waitstaff are used to that kind of thing. The bar food is OK ... not great but OK. I watched a couple of Badger football games there.

Hi RobinB! So good to "see" you. we will be at WDW from Oct 29-Nov 4...any chance you will be around then?

Oh...ESPN Club. I am not a sports fan but even *I* reminisce about that place! Last night, DH, DD and I were playing the "If you were at WDW right now, where would you like to be" game and DH said ESPN...in one of the booths in the bar area with the TV in it.

Hi Baby and magic and punkin! Welcome!

hey, so no one has an answer to crzy4mk's question?

Hi! I'm going in mid-August for the start of the Free Dining plan with my family (sister's family, parents, etc) and then at the end of the Free Dining from 9/29-10/2 for the Ladies Only trip. We keep on missing each other :(. I'll be back again for my regular Christmas/NYE trip, but we're taking the summer of 2007 off from WDW because we're going to Japan in August instead (and Tokyo DL ;)).

Thanks! ESPN it will be. We are staying at POR, hopefully its not too far from there.

Planning on becoming an official LOTW-er while at Disney. I have read through some of the posts on this thread and gotten ideas of where to have a totti or 2, and certaindrinks I want to try, such as a backscratcher, Lapu Lapu and an Endless Summer. If there's anything else anyone can think of thats "really good", let me know, I will add it to my itenerary. I will almost surely try almost anything. As far as the countries in Epcot, do they mostly offer beer?
If so I can skip the extra curricular beverages there, I can't do much beer.
Thanks again, I am soooo excited about going!!
I saw the pics of when some of you guys met up, looks like you had lots of fun!
oh yeah, one more question, my favorite is a Mudslide. Any ideas on where in Disney they may make a good one? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but I skipped around a good bit.

There is a lot of good wine in the countries in Epcot if you are a wine drinker.

A drink that I had last trip that I am looking forward to having again is a Chocolate Martini at Raglan Road. VERY good.

Magicmirror - Before you go to ESPN Club, ask at POR whether they will show the game on the big screen in the lounge there. The lounge at POR is awesome, and they often show the games. They always made a big deal of Monday Night Football (RIP). If not, ESPN is always a great place to watch the game.

What are the beers that are offered in the "beer flight" at Biergarten? Had this last time and loved one of the dark beers! Not really a dark beer drinker, but it was awesome! I know you can get it in a larger size, but I'm not sure which one it was! It was the sweeter, smoother of the 2 dark beers. Can anyone help?

The Beer flight beers offered are: Lowenbrau, Optimator, Franziskaner, Dinkel Acker Dark

Ok guys! With the FREE Dining Package out, I am going to come in on September 29th or 30th and will stay likely through the 5th of October - so Jennifer at least we will have one night together, LOL. Looking forward to seeing you all again!

Also, if anyone wants a quote on the FREE Dining Package, email me at dagny@dreamsunlimitedtravel.com and give me your details (will need names of all travelers and ages of all kids to hold a reservation for you). If we can get 8 or more travelers in our group, we can make it a GRAND GATHERING and be entitled to some additional perks.... (ok I know, I know a shameless plug for Dreams but hey it works!!!) FREE FOOD? I am so there - haha!

Ok you all, I look forward to hearing from you :) :) :)

LOL! I love it!

I guess we all know the old adage: "Beer before liquor, never been sicker...liquor before beer, you're in the clear!"

I am not a beer drinker anyway!

Or how bout..

One Martini
Two Martinis
Three Martinis
FLOOR!

Martinis are like breasts.. One is too few and Three are too many. Observe the rule sometime. You will be amazed at how accurately it can predict debauchery.

Good one, pasty Irish! Although I had heard that one once before, and my DH said..."yeah, but what about FOUR breasts...now THAT is great!"

Or something to that effect..haha, men...so creative. :confused3

I may have already said this one previously in the thread, but it is an old wives tale that if you are ever lost and alone in the wilderness, you should immediately begin making a martini. At least 5 people will emerge from the brush to tell you that you are doing it incorrectly.

We will be at BWV 10/29-Nov 3...then WL Nov 3 and 4. But, I gotta say, if we do not get a good FL res rate, I will cancel my WL ressie. Hi PP!

TL...sorry, should have specified..."Territory Lounge" at the WL! Right next to the Artist's Point Restaurant.

Oh, trust me, once you have a blue cheese stuffed olive you will be spoiled. I started making them at home, but I got a little out of hand with my "martini hour" (I wanted to have them every day) so I had to back off a bit and now it is my treat when I am out for happy hour, or drinks and dinner.

Same with "Hangar One." I found a liquor store that carries it, but it is $40 a bottle so I decided to make that mt "only have it at WDW" vodka...KWIM?

Aloha!!

WOW!! Let me just say--I've been reading this thread now for about a week.....really wanted in on it, but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything before I jumped in.

Anyway, very cool stuff. I've enjoyed a cocktail (or seven) at WDW over the years--Drinks around the World (WSC); PI in the very beginning (anyone remember Zephyr's Rockin' Rollerdrome, and "Zappy Hour"?)--Tiki Drinks at the Tambu Lounge; etc. etc.

I haven't stayed at WDW in quite a while, but I had a bunch of time under my belt when I last left.

Anyway, I've enjoyed living vicariously through ya'll, and still keep up with my drinks, if not my WDW (for now). Hopefully, I'll have something to add from time to time...I feel like I know ya'll now, after reading through all this! :teeth:

One other thing that may interest some: If you like the Poly, and/or the Tambu Lounge, there's a huge "Tiki" subculture out there as well that shares the love of cocktails and Disney stuff with this thread. Interesting reading, if anyone is interested. I'm guessing it's taboo to post another web address here, but if you PM me, I can point you to the Tiki folks.

Hi Scott and Welcome! I think you are allowed to post other sites here...I am pretty sure...don't want to get you in trouble or anything! :smokin: I would be interested in seeing that. So, are you a Poly Lover? Do you have a trip planned soon?

Aloha again!

Thanks for the welcome, WLL!

OK, I checked the FAQ and it is ok to post other links, so here goes.

www.tikicentral.net

Some stuff will be interesting to some of you, and some of it may not be. It's a quirky bunch; I mostly lurk there, as there is some fascinating reading. There are a number of Imagineers and other Disney Design type folks on there.

Either search the site for "Disney", or check out the "General" and "Tiki Drinks/food" categories to start with.

And no, I don't have a trip planned at the moment; just recently, though, I've really started jonesing to do a Poly trip. I only ever stayed there once, for one night, and it was great. I've spent many an afternoon lazing by the pool, though (when you could still pool hop), hanging at the old pool bar, or just enjoying the atmosphere there. Another (long past) trick we used to do was park in the lot there (again, before security was as tight as it is) and take the boat to the MK. Much easier and shorter lines than the Main Lot/TTC/Monorail or Ferry.

We did do DL last April, which is always a blast. DL is just different enough from MK to make me feel like a kid again (I've spent A LOT of time in the MK).

I'm dying to try Bleu Cheese Olives in my DM, though, WLL! I've heard of them before, but never got around to trying....my DW isn't so hot on Bleu Cheese, but then again she's not much for DM's either....much more a Cosmo or Appletini kind of gal (or Blue Martini, or Absolut Hunk....we went through an experimental Martini Phase--I've got a little Martini Glass/Cocktail shaker fetish ;) )

Anyway, Thanks again for the welcome, and I hope you enjoy the Tiki!

Chat at you soon!

OK, let's geek it up a bit.... :rotfl:

Everybody weigh in with their most memorable Disney Drink. It could be the drink itself being extraordinary, an event that accompanied it, or some other special memory....be creative! Include as many details as you can.

I'll start--I actually have 2:

April 1995: Celebrating a special occasion at the California Grill. There weren't any fireworks scheduled, so we booked around Sunset time. It was my first time there as the CG--we had come up on occasion to the old "Top of the World Lounge" for drinks before, but this was a new eating/drinking experience. It was an especially big deal for us, as CM's, since the CG is kinda pricey!! ;) Anyway, the meal was wonderful, but the real highlight was a dessert wine we had along with Souffle's! (orange and chocolate, if I remeber right). The wine was a moscata (and was perfect!) to go with a pefect meal, and a perfect view, on a perfect night. Very nice.

I'll save my other one for after some replies.

Well, I hate to repeat myself, but my FIRST EVER Dirty Martini was at Mizner Lounge at WDW in...ummm, I wanna say maybe 2003? geez, I wish I could remember what trip it was. that was the beginning of an era for me. my "DM era!"

The little lounge right inside Jiko is where I had my first taste of Hangar One vodka, if I remember correctly. That is now my "WDW Vodka of Choice" since I do not want to spend the money to buy it when at home ($40 a bottle) and very few restaurants and lounges carry that brand.

You were a CM? I would like to hear more about that. Was it fun being a CM? I never saw "Top Of the World" lounge. I was not "into" WDW until 2001. I am a late bloomer, I suppose. Kind of sad since I have lived so close all my life. Now I am OBSESSED! When we watch "WISHES" I stare into my DD's face (she is 7 now") and not only do I get all choked up, but a tiny part of me is PISSED at my parents for not taking me to MK but once or twice as a child! LOL! :rotfl2:

hey, I mde my ADR for CG for 7:20 on Sat, Nov 3. WISHES is supposed to be at 9pm. I should have no problem getting my table, right? I am afraid some people will "camp" at their table until 9 pm.

My other ADRs I made today (just humor me...you know how you just wanna talk about WDW all the time when you are in the planning stages?)

Sandacastle Club for DD to stay at Sat night while we go to PftS

Mon-Crystal palace at 5 pm, then onto MNSSHP!

Friday morning-CRT!!!

Friday evening-Hoop de Doo revue!

Sat night -Cal Grill

Sun morning-Chef Mickey's!

I need to make sure I get a night at Boma in there, too! I want to try Biergarten, I have never been. It is hard to fit everything in, even though we will be there for 8 nights!

I had a feeling yours would be a DM!! :teeth: I've seen Hangar One Vodka before, but never tried it. I'll keep a look out. :3dglasses

Being a CM was an amazing experience! I really loved every minute. You get opportunities you would never get otherwise; OTOH, while it's still special, WDW isn't quite the same as it is when you're a guest. Plus, it's somewhat limiting financially. Put it this way--I don't regret one minute of working there, but I also don't regret leaving.

Your ADR's sound fun! I think you and your DH/DD would enjoy the Biergarten! It's lively and festive, there's beer, it's WSC! How can you go wrong?

Lapu Lapu's for everyone! pirate:

Well, I hate to repeat myself, but my FIRST EVER Dirty Martini was at Mizner Lounge at WDW in...ummm, I wanna say maybe 2003? geez, I wish I could remember what trip it was. that was the beginning of an era for me. my "DM era!"

LOL! :rotfl2:

Hey I made my ADR for CG for 7:20 on Sat, Nov 3.

Hey there....

Thanks for sharing your ADR's. We went to CG on Dec 1,2005...We had ADR's for 7:30pm, but we were about 30 mins. late. We decided to stop off at Epcot and do Soarin again...the wait was 90 mins long. We waited and rode it....We booked it to the CR and made it there about 8pm. They took us right up after checking in at the 2nd floor. Or was it the 4th floor? Well, whichever. Dh and I sat at the bar had a martini and got seated about 25 mins. later... We got a window table. We got up and when to the observation deck. The restaurant was busy but not Over crowded. It was awesome. One of the best experiences we've had at WDW. We are going back Oct 1st. Can't wait. You should be fine. Don't worry. You have a really good adr.

BTW, I never went to WDW as a child. Ever, not even once. I'm so glad that we can take our girls. We've been there with them 3 times and plan on going many , many more times.

OT, Are you the one who is planning the DisMeet for Allentown, Pa? Just wondering, if it's you or someone else.

Can't wait to try the DM w/ the bleu cheese olive.

deetman-Yes, do try the Hangar One vodka. It is yummy!

POOP ( can call you that, right? LOL!) It is nice to read about your CG experience. I am also confused as to whether you check in at the 2 or 4 floor, but I am sure I will figure it out that night! I am crossing my fingers for a window seat, but I am prepared if that does not happen. We ate at CG once, back on our first trip in 2001. It was Dec and VERY slow, as it was after the tragedy. It was our first trip to WDW with our DD who was only 4. We had an awesome window seat, but honestly, I did not appreciate it as much as I would now, because I hadn't really planned much, didn't know what to expect, etc. Well, our waiter came to our table and asked if we "knew of any little girls that would want to start the firewroks this evening?" I was not familiar with this tradition, and I am not sure they are still doing it, as I have not heard anyone on these boards mention it.

They had DD go to the podium and I thought it was just "fake" but they swore that by her pushing the button it really does send a signal to start the fireworks. To this day, I am not sure that is true, but they did a great job convincing us and that made it even more magical. They made a big deal out of it, it was kind of ceremonial, and DD got a certificate and everything. A few months later a friend of mine went to the CG and her DD got selected to do it.

Nooo, I don't have anything to do with the DIS meet in Allentown...sure wish I could go! Is Lou Mongello going to be there? I ADORE his trivia book and already have the second one on order from his site.

As much as I wish I would have went to WDW more often as a child, it is kinda cool that it is "our" thing as a family. My parents are VERY active in my DD's life, I couldn't ask for better grandparents, but they have no interest in going to WDW. I don't think they understand about the shops, restaurants and beautiful resorts (although I have explained a zillion times.)

Thanks for the CG encouragement! I will report back (although we have a looong wait...185 days! :()

My parents are the same way! I TRY to convince them and they just keep saying, why Annual Passes, why do you go back so much, what is there to see that you haven't already seen!
For us it's like those folks that walk the mall. We enjoy just going there and walking around! Stopping for a margarita in Mexico and more walking.

I booked my parents 2 nights at the Polynesian in July for their 47th Anniv., so we'll see if they get the Dis bug. I'm hoping!! :thumbsup2

Hi JSM!

Yup, my parents ask me all the time why I am going back to WDW. They are not really into travelling too much, so at least they don't bug me about trying new places, like some of my friends do. They just can't understand why we go a few times a year to WDW...they can't imagine there is "that much to do" there!

Sure you can call me Poop. I am paslea_pooh, pooh for short. DH is hooP (pooh spelled backwards), so on the board we frequent, they call us POOP.

Yes, Lou Mongello is gonna be there. So is Deb for allears.net. and some other great folks. This is the second or third year I believe. I'm not sure if we'll go. We are reasonably close to the meet.

I've never ever heard that about the CG. I'll ask around and see if anyone else had that experience. That sounds awesome.

Everybody weigh in with their most memorable Disney Drink. It could be the drink itself being extraordinary, an event that accompanied it, or some other special memory....be creative! Include as many details as you can.

Good question!

I'm going with the infamous "Backscratcher" at Tambu Lounge (TL? lol) at the Poly. Had a real wooden back scrather in the drink! Lots of good alcohol too!

Wifey (pooh26) loved her Lapu Lapu (thanks for wishing us one in every post Scott, lol). So many to try.....:thumbsup2

I'll add one...
My most memorable (and also my fave) is the pina colada at the poly. It was my 1st drink at the World when I turned 21 (not on my bday but a few weeks later). We were having a huge party all around the world and we went to the tambu almost at closing. I was given a free drink (the colada) We were playing a game of truth or dare and the 2 really cute bar cm's started playing with us (we were the last ones there) and somewhere during the game I ended up getting a kiss on each cheek from them (at the same time) and when they got off work we all went partying in o-town. ;)

OK, 2nd one for me.

Summer, 1991. I'd heard from some other WDWCP friends from back home that Narcoosee's had YARDS of beer! Not a big deal to the normal human, but to a very impovorished CM, it sounded pretty damn good on payday (Thursday). I got my roommate (also not quite of age) to follow me over there after work one day. I was feeling flush with new money, and it was a beautiful day. Cold, crisp beer in a yard glass was just what the dr. ordered!! We enjoyed the mid-afternoon, and my good friend and roommate rode my motorcycle home (letting me drive his car). It was a good thing.

Very refreshing, and a memory I'll never forget.

I couldn't convince my parents of why my WDW obsession was healthy, so I decided to take them for a weekend at the Poly on their 33rd Anniv. It was spectacular! They had a great time, enjoyed every minute of it. We took them everywhere and even made them ride some thrill rides. They were convinced, although no where near the insanity that I live through. :3dglasses

We have done the world showcase "booze-tour" :drinking1 a few times... (too many)

Here is my World Showcase touring/beverage plan:

Canada - We always start in Canada and have a few beers. Moosehead & LaBatts. I tried this Bloody-Mary type drink with Clamato once (Don't try this one on the one day tour), but mostly beer.

UK - Guinness is a must, even for non-beer lovers. Now, here's where I get myself in trouble. I know that I am only on stop 2 of 11, but Guinness is kind of like Lays Chips... I can't have just one. I down some fish & chips to tone down the Guinness

France - I'm not a wine drinker, but this is France after all. When you go into the little "Bakery" type place, ask them for the "house" wine, they gave us several glasses and it was pretty good.

Morocco - There was a Moroccan beer that was very good. I can't remember the name, but we had more than 1 and struck up a friendship with the guy serving... yes he was from Morocco.

Japan - Sake, Sake, Sake. I spent about 3 weeks in Japan when I was in college and fell in love with sake. Go to the lounge, get some snacks and sake. Hot or cold, sake is worth the hangover.

By this point you are feeling pretty good (we always are in control and most times have had a designated walker/tour guide to make sure everyone stays in control).

USA - Here we normally take a break. We have a few Sam Adams, then take a rest in American Adventure.

Italy - Here's where you separate the drinkers from the pretenders. The Bellini is a must. This is one of those drinks mom warned you about. It goes down smooth and you can't believe you are drinking alcohol. Don't get stuck here. This happened to us once and we woke up the next morning sleeping by the animatronic cave man in Spaceship Earth! :dumbo:

Germany - Back to beer. There are too many to try so just pick one or two and don't look back. Spaten Optimator is a fav, but experiment. Also, this place always seems like a giant party: , maybe it's the fact we are all feeling good, but this is always a difficult place to leave.

China - We normally just get a Chinese wine (after German beer it would be unfair to drink beer from China). It is refreshing and gives you the "energy" to finish the tour. (Side note - at this point you should stay away from egg rolls, sauerkraut or any food from Norway unless you want to leave a giant sized mousekeeping envelop filled with "apology" bills the next day in your room.)

Norway - Carlsberg, enough said. I also agree with another poster. Ride the boat in Norway, trust me, you will think you are on Space Mtn with a "Where the Wild Things Are" theme!

Mexico - There is a reason why we end in Mexico. Canada really does not have a place to sit outside and drink. Grab a margarita and a table at the cantina and toast to a job well done.

I agree this is not for everyone and I don't think you have to drink to enjoy yourself. But if you enjoy a variety of adult beverages from different countries this is about the only place.

Enjoy!

ahhhh-Thanks for sharing those pics! It looks beautiful...and not that crowded? How were the crowds? The castle is soooo pretty. What is different about Space Mountain 2? How was the food? You and Minnie are the coolest couple.

I will definitely check out the DLP boards, I never really thought to do so.

Brutus-Hello and welcome to the thread! Haha, you have quite the touring plan there, dontcha? I could NEVER mix all those drinks up...i gotta stick with beer OR wine OR hard liquor! Haha, I guess I am just a "pretender" and not a true drinker, although my DH will tell you otherwise. That is funny about the apology envelopes for the room...ewwww!

Hi to aidensmom! :wave2:

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
05-13-2006, 12:23 PM
WLL - We went on a Tuesday and there were absolutely no crowds. The only crowded area was Fantasyland (where the parents take all the children). All the queues were no more than 5-10 minutes. And in the evening (around 6ish) the crowds were even less! When we rode Thunder Mountain (which is awesome!) they just let us stay on the train to ride back to back since there was no queue.

Unfortunately, we couldn't take many pics because we were having problems with our camera. :(

Space Mountain 2 is an awesome spaced theme version of Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster...except its better than RnR! We probably got on SM2 atleast 7 times...

We didn't eat in the park, we ate at the Disney Village. It was ok, but as you'd figure its pretty pricey. We didn't realize there were some cheap eateries in the train station. doh! Oh! but we did drink wine and beer there...(ofcourse! :teeth: ) and it was great!

Err, if you read the above post you'll see that I already answered that question. :3dglasses But it's ok, I skim through posts all the time. Queue lines were about 5-10 minutes tops. This is actually a favorite bar for me - DH and I spent hours there once, meeting tons of fun people! It is a great spot to watch the AK parade, since the parade passes the bar twice. I always have a drink and stay back at the bar the first time it passes, and then move to the route a few minutes before it returns, because everyone leaves after the parade passes. The bartender can tell you exactly what time it will come back by.

I leave a month from today for a 25 day Orlando trip (part of that is convention, which pays my airfare.) I plan to do some power drinking!! :cool2:

I don't know about a specific drink, but my DH and I always spend a few hours in the Tune-in Lounge at the 50's Prime Time Diner. We've enjoyed the energy of the place, the bartenders have been there forever, and sometimes entertainment comes in off the street. The various punches are pretty good, if you like sweet. You get a glowing icecube - hubby and I had to drink 12 on one trip so that we could have a full set of the cubes!! :thumbsup2

The missus and I did a drinking fest on out honeymoon in 97. The monorail has 4 stops. Three of the four have places with booze. One of the four is 99.9 percent dry -- there is only one place to get booze and its pretty hard to get in. (Plus, you probably wouldn't want to go there if you've been drinking heavily at the other 3.)

If you're talking about getting plastered, disney resorts are pretty expensive places to buy drinks, and if you're visibly drunk you can be refused admittance to the monorail.

We party our tails off at Disney. I usually only have a drink a couple of nights a week at home, but at Disney, we usually keep beer/wine/vodka, etc... in the room + drink beer/wine at the parks from lunch onwards everyday. MK days are when we "dry out" lol - since they don't sell alchohol there. We are going with a a couple of friends next week who have never been. Time to introduce them to a little thing I like to call the Epcot Shuffle - fastpass - 2-3 world showcase beer stops - ride - fastpass - repeat...

DH and I are in our mid forties. We consider ourselves professionals when it comes to drinking. Meaning we can have a few here and there and be just fine. As opposed to the amateurs. You know the ones I mean. Turned 21 like 5 minutes ago and need to get those 21 shots in. And they never turn invisible. This in no way implies that the younger crowd is like that. Just a few. But then again I have seen some our age who I would still consider amateurs. You know them too...... :rotfl2:

Anyway we will be in WDW the second week in September. Please let us know if we in any way start acting like amateurs. :drinking1

Yay, luvthatduck! You have plenty of time to plan! I am getting happy just thinking about DH and I "adults only" anniversary trip in May, for our 10 year. I have did the "Country Crawl" at Epcot during our Christmas '01 vacation. It was a blast and can be accomplished in one day. For a price each country can give you a sample drink (smaller drink portions and less than regular price). That way you can 'crawl' to each country without literally crawling back to your hotel.

Wow, really? I've never heard of this. Can I just ask at any of the country's bars?

Saturday (10/16), the crowds were crazy at MK. My DH really did not want to be at WDW, anyway. Midday, we needed a break. I made a deal.

We hopped on the monorail and went to the Contemporary's Outer Rim Lounge to have a few beers and watch part of the Auburn Game. (I have no idea who they were playing).

My husband was "tickled pink" the rest of the night and did not complain one bit after that!

Good idea.

Yes, us husbands really aren't that hard to please really. :teeth:

Usually just a few drinks and access to a football game is all it takes. :thumbsup2

Heh heh heh. I'm celebrating my 21st birthday in WDW. This thread is giving me so many ideas. I actually have two nights to celebrate my 21st. The night we get there, the 12th.. but after midnight. So technically it's the 13th and I can be legally served alchol. And then the night of the 13th.

The only thing is we're arriving in the evening on the 12th so we might be a little pooped.

Heh heh heh.....

Slightly off Topic, but there's a place (or was, anyway  ) at Crossroads in LBV called Jungle Jim's. It's a themey, touristy sort of place; loud, very decorated, BIG, HUGE portions of bar type food, and some CRAZY drinks!!! There's one called, ironically enough, the Jungle Jim. The slogan, on the menu, the wall, and the napkins, is "....after three, you become invisible." So here's the Disney Tie-in (aside from being in LBV). Each night of the week, a different drink was/is on special (in 89/90, it was about $2.75 each, and these are SERIOUSLY big drinks). Therefore, Disney Wages being what they are, it was quite the poplular hangout for after hours Cast. I spend many a night there after work, back in my WDW days. Check it out, if you're into the whole "off property" thing. Jungle Jim's (http://www.jungle-jims.com/)

wildernesslodgelover -- I will be forced by DH to go to Universal next year (2007) for a couple days (MY BIRTHDAY I INSISTED MUST BE SPENT AT MK!!!). You said you didn't like it ... are there good places to drink so I can forget I have gone to the "dark side?"

.... definately no monorail drink-a-thon there!!! and then we have to drive ALL WAY BACK TO HOME (WDW).

Hey, glad to see how long this LOTW UNITED support group has been here. There's a "beers around the world" thread too ... much newer but very interesting!

Last time I was at the world, we didn't do a monorail drink-a-thon but we did do an Around the World. For those of you who havent heard of the game it's your basic college drinking game where you go from one dorm room to another. Each room has its own specialty drink, and you basically drink yourself around the world or the dorm. This however works EXTREMELY well at Epcot. Two of my friends and I did this, and I should warn you it really needs to be split up into 2 days if you intend on drinking at all the countries or take an entire day to do it, because no one wants their children exposed to the "college atmosphere." However very fun and each country features specialities beers wines and liquors from their homeland :drinking:

and for reference sake the drinks ranged from $3-6 (this was a year and a half ago) so coming from NYC I think it's really quite reasonable

I thought I was the only one who did this!!! I call it Beers of the World though. Been doing it since 2000. Best deal is the 1/2 yard at UK. You can get it refilled for around $7.00 and you can bring the glass back in another day and pay the refill price. Great Deal!!!!!

 Hi Everyone! I am not officially a member of the LOTW Club but I have lurked on this thread since before our 2004 trip! Someday I hope to be a card carrying member!

Anyway, I can't seem to get the search to work and I have asked on just about every other board I have ever been on and can't seem to find the answer. I'm thinking maybe this might be the place!

A while ago, I read a post from someone about doing the Beers Around the World Tour. The post was complete and detailed directions about how to accomplish this including times to be in each country, which drink to have, where to stop for a snack and what to have all so you could finish the tour in about a 10 hour time period. I thought for sure that I saved it to a Word document so that I could bring it on our upcoming trip. DH and I would love to do this on our "adults only, anniversary trip."

Thanks for any information you can give me that might point me in the right direction! Hopefully, when we return, we can earn our membership cards in the club! :drinking1

Happy Birthday, Snwflkscts! Have you ever been to Universal? You may like it, if you are into "rides" and stuff like that. We are not...DH and I don't really like rollercoasters. I know a lot of people who love US and IOA, so maybe you will, too. The thing is, even my DH, who is NOT a Disney Freakazoid like I am, said there was no "magic" there. There truly is something special about being on WDW property. I haven't quite figured out what it is Disney does that makes me (and a zillion others, apparently) feel that way, but it is the reason I have no desire to go off property while there!

To answer you question...I did not partake in any adult beverages while there, we were only there for one day. I am sure that you will be able to find something good, and if you do, please report back. LOL at "the dark side!"

vsimeone-Make sure to report back when you complete your 10 hour tour! That sounds fun! I am not a beer drinker, so I can't really help!

I *love* Jungle Jims! My favorite drink there is the TARANTULA
(Rum, tequila, vodka, gin, sweet & sour, Sprite, pineapple juice, triple sec and grenadine.) and boy does it pack a punch! I also really like their burgers and the fact that you can get them with beef, chicken or veggie. The downside of Jungle Jims v/s a Disney Drink-A-Thon is Disney transportation is not included, LOL! I can drink one Tarantula, but I can't finish a second and still drive.

Hey Gang!!!

Yep, Robin--the Tarantula is a monster!!! Yum! They're all reasonably tasty, though....plus the whole invisibility thing... :rotfl:

WLL:

It's technically still "on property"--in the Crossroads Shopping center, across from Hotel Plaza Blvd? Where "Goodings" supermarket is? I'm sure you've been by there; maybe just didn't see it.

To be clear: JJ's isn't really a Disney Caliber experience; more like a poor-man's version of Rainforest Cafe--but it is a neat spot with big, STRONG drinks!! pirate:

I had a hard time finding this thread! I thought the mods deleted it or something. I went to WDW in Oct and had a great time. Did PftS, it was as wonderful as always. I was called on stage for the HDDR...was dressed as a can can dancer and had a speaking part...thank goodness for the unlimited chardonnay or I would have been freaking out! We had great dinners at the HBD, Portobello's, Boma, ESPN and we tried Biergarten for the first time and LOVED it! We also had great breakfasts at Cape May and WCC and Spoodles. Did Fantasmic, and MNSSHP on halloween (too crowded, that was a mistake! never again on Halloween.)

We stayed at POP the first night, and were very disappointed. We won't stay there again. I mean, it wasn't horrible, just not worth $120 a night. I guess if we got it for a lot less (like $75 a night) we would consider it, but I think those days of low rates are over.

Stayed 5 nights a BWV on rented points and it was awesome as always.

Were supposed to stay 2 nights at the WL, but checjed out a day early...we changed rooms twice and didn't like any of them. The construction going on did take away from the resort a little, plus, this is the first time we were PAYING for a CY room, and we had the worst views ever...just was not feeling the "magic" as usual at the WL! Again, when we paid $130 a night a few years ago...well, that was ok. but we were paying $270 and sorry, but that is too much to not be THRILLED, ya know?

Anyway, I don't mean to sound negative, it was a great trip. We are now planning our child free May trip...10 year anniversary! I already have my ADR at V&A's! :Pinkbounc

Hope to see some of you lushes around.

I know it's been forever and ever since I posted last. Life just gets in the way.

I know it's been a while since this was posted, but I spent some time at Classic Concoctions at PC in October. Had a great bartender and he told me they were doing a standardized menu for all of the bars, lounges, etc., for the Year of a Million Dreams. :sad2: Most places still have their unique signature drinks, but you have to ask for them.

Had a great time in October but I really missed meeting up with everyone!! Not sure I'll make is this year either. I'm doing the Pirate event in May and possibly a repo cruise in '08 so other trips will be slim to nill. :sad1:

In December, my cousin and I did a fireworks cruise on 7 Seas Lagoon. We left from WL and made a stop at the Territory Lounge first. After about an hour, we each got Hot Cocoa with Baileys & Amaretto to go. It was SOOO cold that night. While we were waiting to board, we made an excuse to run back to the "bathroom" and grabbed another "to-go" drink. Did I mention it was cold?!?!

Anyway, I'll be heading to WDW on Thursday for a week and I am determined to get a fiesta margarita this time. Each time I've gone, I've never hit Mexico at the right time or temperature.

Cheers!

Catherine - too funny. After I posted this, I didn't check in again until today. It's too bad I won't see you at the AC in March. :( I won't be going back until late May. Darn Western Repo. Not sure I'm going to make it to DL before the cruise those. WDW keeps calling my name.

Beth - sorry I missed you!! AND the margarita line!!! I never made it over to that side of WS. December is looking less and less unlikely so I *might* be able to make it for the 3rd Annual LOTW Monorail Meet in October. Woo Hoo!!

No, but you'll see me and Amy both there in May (if you want to admit you know me) unless I change for the Star Wars weekend. I don't know if I will. I know a lot of folks going on the May weekend so I may just suck it up and skip Star Wars if they don't do it in May. I don't know that we'll see anything funnier than the dog-butler and Pirate Dog Man though.

I want to make it to the third meet in October but I may be going down over the weekends of October 5 (that is the first weekend in October but also Columbus Day weekend), October 12 and another arrival on Halloween, so I really doubt that I will get to go on the last weekend in September.

Yup - mine is 22-28. My dates are set as I'm doing the POTC Adventure on 7 Seas Lagoon event 22-25, then staying for the weekend. If we're all there we HAVE to do something. No "ought to" about it. Though Catherine is right.... nothing can beat the dog butler and pirate dog man. LOL But that is the great thing about the AC, there is always something funnier just around the corner. Sometimes literally.

Catherine... I will always admit that I know you. It's more fun that way!! Besides, there may come a day when you won't want to know me.

Hi Luv! Ohhh, how I love Boma and also HBD! I am awful at giving suggestions as what to drink where, cuz I always get my dirty martini, vodka and club soda or chardonnay everywhere I go. Actually, a martini at HBD might be nice, kind of an ode to old Hollywood and that era, right?

My DD and I took an impromptu trip to MK a few Saturdays ago, just for the day. We rode a few rides, ate at Crystal palace (it just about KILLED me to not have a glass of wine with my meal) and then rode over to Epcot for a bit. It was really cool to be there on a spur of the moment trip.

As for drinks, I again had a Safari Amber at Boma's, a Chardonnay and a Merlot at the California Grill, a Sunset something-or-other at the Tambu Lounge, and a tall, cold and most welcome Kirin Ichiban at the Japan pavillion at Epcot.

Oh and Margaritas, lots of Margaritas, :goodvibes

It was a great trip! We had those 3 days in the middle where it was upper 80's, but those were our pool days!

Boma is our favorite resturant. We prefer buffets when the food is something we can't get around Columbus (and African certainly qualifies, lol) and Boma does it best. Great Kenyan AA coffee in a French Press pot too!

Hey, Happy early anniversary. We used our 20th (this July) as one of the excuses to go to WDW! The California Grill gave us a present:

Enjoy!
Does anyone remember the 911 shot in Germany? It had 3 different liquers I think.

The monorail goes through the Contemporary, but it also goes to the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian.

We have done the "drink and shop-a-thon" where we stop for a drink at each resort's bar, and also shop their shops.

It's a lot of fun. It's a nice break from the hustle-bustle of the parks.

We had an EXCELLENT trip. We really loved the Dolphin, especially for the price ($159 a night, FL res rate) and we have another trip planned for F&W Fest. We sat by the pool every afternoon, and drank mojitos every afternoon! Our only disappointment was at Blue Zoo, which used to be one of our favorites.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1445223

We tried Flying Fish for the first time and loved it. I highly recommend the Segway Tour at Epcot.

We have always loved Boma, for breakfast AND dinner. This trip was no exception, although I was disappointed in my bloody mary. Not a drop of booze in there!

Hey WWL:

Sorry you had such an awful experience at Bluezoo. It's one of our favorites as well and actually plan on going in a couple weeks. I don't think we've ever made reservations there until the day we plan on eating there. As a matter of fact, I can't remember a time that they were over the top busy. That being said, I'm disappointed in the service that experienced. I can't stand going out and being able to actually hear a server yell at the kitchen staff or vice versa, the sure sign of a dead restaurant. We're still planning on going and hoping for the best. Although this might be a long shot, I was wondering, do you recall the oyster selection that Bluezoo was offering? I know the culinary world is now flat and you can easily order oysters in the dead of summer, shipped in from farms and colder climates, but I find that the selection can sometimes be pretty limited in June/July. I'm simply hoping for a nice variety.

wildernesslodgelover
06-13-2007, 12:33 PM
Hi L.O.G.!

I am anxious to hear your report. I see Peter Pirate (whose reviews I usually agree with) was at BZ just recently and he said the food and service was excellent.

I don't recall the name of the oysters or where they were from, but I am pretty sure it was not a choice, they just had one selection. I know the rule of thumb is to not order oysters in a month without and "R" in it (May-August) but then I read somewhere that is not actually the case anymore, as you said. I figured since it was only a few days after April, it didn't really matter. They tasted great, but were teensy tiny. Now...maybe an oyster conoisseur would know just from reading the menu that these particular oysters (where ever they are from) are small. I can say, though, that I have never seen oysetrs that small myself!:confused3

I also chalked the poor service to the fact that the restaurant was *so* slow. I remember when I waitressed many moons ago...the busier you are, the better service you give. Things flow better, the kitchen runs more efficiently etc.

Please post your review! If we hear a few more good ones, we will consider going back. Also, I hate to keep harping on this, but if you sit in the lounge area, please listen out for the scraping of the barstools on the floor! I promise you, the first time you hear it you will smile and think of me! OR...curse me for bringing it to your attention!:rotfl:

Is it a special occassion thing only, and what restaurant is it located at? Or, if I completely misunderstood the whole post, just say "Hey Shark, wishful thinking!" :lmao:

Hey, Shark! You can get beer samplers at Big River Grille on the Boardwalk or at Raglan Road. There may be other places. My DH is looking forward to the whiskey samplers at Raglan Road! Enjoy reading all the back posts to this thread!

I know it's not "fine beer" but I found a pumkpin beer the other day and it was GOOD!!!! Had the slightest hint of pumpkin with cloves, nutmeg and allspice... who'd a thunk it! :thumbsup2

Hello everyone! I'm in Narita airport in Japan waiting for my fight to Beijing. Nothing like a little catch up on the DIS while I sip Sapporo Beer in Northwest's Executive Lounge. Better yet ... the Beer here pours itself! You put the beer glass on a little tray and push the button. The tray tilts and the beer comes out one spigot. When the glass is *almost* full, the other spigot finishes it off with a 1-inch head. Perfect!

Anyway ... I also have a Disney related story. We went to Hong Kong Disneyland for my DD's 8th birthday. We had dinner over at the Disneyland Hotel at their character buffet. On the way out I stopped by the lounge to ask for a drink stirrer or a condiment sword (or whatever those are called!) as I collect them and use them in my drinks at home. Anyway ... there was no one at the bar, but that didn't stop me and I helped myself to two of the drink stirrers. I can't wait for have a drink when I get home and I can use them!

Does anyone else re-use their Disney drink stirrers at home?

Ahhh I'm home. I love reading these posts as I drink my 4th glass of wine. I'm a bartender in New Orleans. (Read: I'm a professional drinker) My roommate is a chef (Read: He's a professional drinker, although he is passed out in MY bed at the moment) I'm working my way through a bottle of Bazzini Barbera at the moment. Inexpensive Italian table wine at its best. Thanks to the guys at the wine store for suggesting the first case--hey 12 1L bottles for $80 what a bargin! I love drinking. I love Disney. I love drinking at Disney! Although, when at the World I'm usually to tired to have more than a few and always want to be able to get up in the morning. Lets see it 3:11 I have to be to work in exactly 12 hours . . . plenty of time . . . lets have another glass.

YES! I do! I have some from the GF, and one from HBD at MGM. I stick my Maytag blue cheese stuffed olives on them when I have dirty martinis at home. Which I swear is not that often...SWEAR!:guilty:

I cannot believe you are in Japan right now! What an incredible trip for your family. I am awful...my DD (who is also 8) just went on her very first plane ride to CA this summer. I hate flying, and I am a former flight attendant.:rolleyes1

Please post a trip report when you return. Any plans to go to WDW in the fall? We will be there Sept 28-Oct 3!

I have never been to Trader Joes. I do have a question though, do they serve their's warm or cold?

I dunno, I just buy a 6 pack and stick it in the fridge.

I was at the Territory Lounge on the 12th and they wouldn't make me a North Flight martini (first time that's happened)... for any specialty drinks you had to order from the standard menu where they put that syrup crap in everything.

Just found this thread. OMG I thought we were the only family that spent more vacation dollars on drinks than food!!! One Labor Day weekend a few years ago my sister and I decided to have a drink in every resort on Disney property. I don't remember a lot that weekend. Except meeting Chris Berman in the ESPN bar. Exactly how do I become a member of this LOTW club? I have drank my way around the countries many times. We always start in United Kingdom with the half yard of Bass. Skipping Canada for now because we can get Molson here in MI. Then on to Mexico for maragritas. Then on. We plan our vacation around the F&W Festival. Please let me join your club. Our next trip starts in 42 days and I am more than happy to have to suffer through an ritual while there to join :)

Aha...I finally found the place where the LOTW hang out. My DW (tacomaranch) has been posting about my exploits on the boards for a while, and I finally signed up so I could share some adventures myself.

We'll be at WDW in 20 days. Looks like I'm going to miss the 'official' drink-a-thon, but I figure I can go it alone, and maybe pick up some castaways along the way!

Okay now, I'm totally new to this disboard thing... and have been over on the 'adult and solo traveler' thing... but make no mistake...I'm a Disney fan thru and thru...

Now... I will be there 10/4-10/11... possibly solo (for the first time) ... OR with college roommate:woohoo: . I was planning on being part of the Drink-A-Thon... and bringing a cast member friend with me:yay: . I KNOW the roommate and I will fit in... esp. with that NOLA person... I grew up on the gulf coast and drinking in NOLA is its own rite of passage...

But what is this about being part of a club and initiation rites and such? Should I be putting my name on a list somewhere?>???? Sign me up!

Oooh, I would love to be part of LOTW. Hubby and I have been regularly dropping into the Disney bars for years.

I don't remember much of my 21st B-day... only that it was spent Drinking around the World. Heck, it was a tradition for the college kids at UCF near Disney!

Well, now we are older, wiser, and have a higher tolerance. :rotfl:

I think Our favorite places to relax after a long Disney are at the Contemporary and at AKL. This trip we will be trying the Poly for the first time. Of course, you haven't really had fun at these places until you have started looking up drink recipes on your blackberry and handing it off to the bartender for them to make! :lmao:

my mom and i returned about a week ago, and one night when it was raining and we felt like getting some shelter, we went on the monorail drink-a-thon!

we were staying at the poly and wanted to end there, so we started at the GF. well, actually, we started at epcot with a peach tea w/peach schnapps from china. mmm mmm.

once we returned to the poly, we hopped the monorail and headed to mizner's. there, i had a pomegranite splash, and i just don't remember what my mom had! some sort of martini i think. i should have written these things down! that's the important stuff to remember, right? anyway, we were very pleased that they provided us with a bowl of nuts for the 2 of us at our table. nice touch.

next stop, the outer rim at the contemporary. here, i had a raspberry iced tea (like a long island, but razz, mmm) and my mom had...again, drawing a blank. oh well, we chatted w/the bartender a bit, then moved on our way.

so our last stop was our home, the poly. we went up to the tambu lounge and i'm pretty sure i got a captain's mai tai. i could be wrong, as this wasn't our only time at the tambu :drinking1 . i'm almost positive that my mom had stephen make her a tradewinds. she asked for something special, and that's what she got! she loved it, but i thought it tasted like her suntan lotion smells (uh, i hate coconut, so that'll do it!).

we had a great time on the monorail drink-a-thon, and also all around the 3 parks that have alcohol in them :cool1: . good times, good times :thumbsup2

Okay, after drooling over my keyboard at the delicious sounding beverages, I must say I NEED to be a part of the LOTW!! My DF and I are staying at the Polynesian from December 27-January 3. This will be his first time, and I've already had to use the lure of alcohol to convince him he will enjoy it there! Now, after reading this thread, I will have so much more to offer up! :hyper: :drinking1 We are both SUCH lushes, that I know we'll fit in perfectly here! :cheer2:

Just got a call from all the lushes out Monorailing it tonight.

:sad1: They miss me, they really miss me!! :sad1:

I think they just wanted to rub it in that they're there having a blast and it's pouring rain up here in Maine. Did sound like they were having a wonderful time. :drinking1 :dance3: :drinking1 Even though TDCNala had the world's nastiest Mohito. (or something like that) Brings back SO many fun memories. LOL OK - that's it! By last call or cover charge I'm going to be there next year. If it were around Columbus Day weekend again, that would be PERFECT, especially since I'll be using most of my vacation time for the 15-night DCL repo in August.

<sigh> Back to writing trip note.

Cheers!
