Glad to hear you're better, Jen. I'm here at the World having a blast. Yesterday was my birthday and we watched Wishes from a boat out of the GF. I had reserved a birthday cruise and my DH surprised me with flowers, Asti Spumanti and a Mickey birthday cake on the boat.... I had 2 cakes My family was there with us and it was one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had. I'll post a trip report when I get back.... here's a few pix:
German and me after the boat ride, note the flowers he sent me on the left under the lamp

Haven't jumped on this thread in awhile, been busy planning my Nov. trip. I will be arriving in 44 days, Nov. 10. My Best friend and I plan on checking out the new resteraunt at Pleasure Island named "Raglan Road." :cool1: Hope its loads of fun like it sounds. Are any of you going after the opening date of Oct. 22? If so, let me know how it is! ;) Thanks!

I'm back and married!!! Here's pictures if anyone is curious:
http://www.photoreflect.com/scripts/prsm.dll?eventthumbs?event=0CQ70007
We did the Boardwalk thing, but due to a series of unpredictable events we just ended up at Jelly Rolls for the night. An interesting fact I found out there...they don't take the room charge and if you try to give them another charge as a "tab" to keep open, they supposedly charge you $100 and then credit you at the end of the night for whatever you don't spend. This is what I was told--however, I only had one charge for $76ish so I think maybe she just didn't want to open a tab for my party. We had a great time drinking coronas and singing to the dueling pianos.
The next night we chilled at the Big River Brewery on the Boardwalk--they were out of my favorite wheat beer but the southern flying lager was pretty good replacement.
At the wedding we had beer/wine and the bartender was kind enough to add his special vodka drink to our list--so then we opened a full bar!
Friday night we spent at the German restaurant with Liters of beer!!! HOLY COW!
The whole trip went so quickly and is such a blur...my favorite drink was the peach bellini at Alfredo's in Italy

WOW! :earseek: Great photos! You and your DH are beautiful! I LOOOOVE your dress! And even your bridesmaids dresses were beautiful! So...I know you answered this a long time ago...where exactly did you get married? Also, can we see some pics of the reception?
You know, i actually got choked up at the pics of you at the staircase at the GF. I will tell you why...
When I did the princess tea with DD last year at the GF, I took a few pictures of her descending down that very staircase in her beautiful princess dress. I told myself she will have that same picture wearing her wedding dress one day! (She is 6 1/2 right now...I know, I know...I need to get a life! LOL!)
Thanks you for sharing your photos...you started my day off with a smaile! :teeth:

Codie - I also loved your photos! Your photographer was very talented - I love all the detail photos (like the back of your dress, your shoes...) You looked beautiful, and the event looked magical!!
It also sounds like you did alright on your alcohol consumption - all around a GREAT wedding!!

WLL--We got married at the Wedding Pavilion at the Grand Floridian and then had the party at the Atlantic Dance Hall. It was perfect! There should be pictures of the reception in there...but who knows--I haven't made it through all 200 and some pictures!! I have some, if someone would PM me with how to post pictures...I will do so:)
My mom always wanted my wedding to be there since they built the wedding pavilion--when i first started dating my dh she went there and took a tour and got a video. I never planned on it until the two of us fell in love in Disney--it seemed the perfect place to say our vows!!
I found a new drink that I did not know existed while we dined at the Yacht Club Galley--you all probably know it, but it is a Red Zinfadel...very very tasty...

Hi Codie!
I did not look at all the pics yet...but I looked at the first few pages, a few middle pages, and a few of the last pages...and I never saw reception pics (I don't *think* I did...maybe they just didn't jump out at me... maybe I didn't look hard enough!)
*sigh* I was invited to a wedding at the Pavillion on Jan 2, 1999. Alas, I could not attend because my DD was born just 6 days prior to the wedding...I could not travel...and sure didn't feel up to partying. :guilty: I sure hope I get ivited to one again some day! I have entertained thoughts of renewing my vows with my DH somewhere on WDW property...but...I dunno...seems a bit cheesy!
You mean the red wine..."zinfandel?" yes, quite yummy. Try a Shiraz (aka Syrah) sometime. I bet you will like that, too!
So...do you think you will go to WDW for your first anniversary?

Well - time for me to say adios for a while! I'll be leaving for WDW tomorrow at 4am!! UGH! Hopefully my room will be ready so I can take a nap before the big meet!
I'll try to check in on Saturday with some details, but no promises. I'll be back with pictures on the 11th!
Take care!
Cheers!

My friends and I do this every trip. We usually start at the Contemporary's Outer Rim Lounge, then proceed to the Polynesian's Tambu Lounge before ending with a nice scotch at the GF's Mizner's Lounge, usually when the orchestra is in full swing. The return voyage is the most memorable of all.
If you're REALLY feeling adventurous (and your liver can handle it), you can start at Territory Lounge, WL's drinking hole, and then take the boat to the Contemporary for the beginning of your trek
Can someone recommend a drink at the Outer Rim and Tambu Lounge? Also, when does the orchestra play at GF? I would really like to hear it and have a nice glass of wine (probably not the same night as the ORL and PTL since two's my limit) :)
TIA,
Alice

Hi Alice! Many peope on the DIS recommend the "lapu Lapu" at the Tambu lounge. It is a yummy fruit and rum concoction served in a hollowed out pineapple. There is a picture somewhere on the thread, but I do not remember what page, sorry. I have had one and they are yummy. I also had a "Backscratcher" at Tambu. Delish!
I have not been to the Outer Rim, but I am sure someone else can help you. And I do remember the orchestra playing while I was at Mizner's, nut I do not know about times.
Have fun on your trip!

Just got back from 5 nites at SSR 1-br, 1 nite at RPR, and 2 nites at OKW Studio. Went to the lush meet on Friday and met several wonderful DISers. We had a great time. Here are a couple of pix... Dagny took a lot more and she had the really sophisticated camera.... I'm sure we'll post more as people come back...

WLL--I will try to get pics of the reception and post them:) I do like Shiraz and that is what the red Zinfadel tasted similar too--VERY good. I was very happy to find out we had a red Zinfadel in our wine cabinet at home!! (We've gotten so many gifts of wine in the past few months we just keep drinking them and doing our own wine tastings!) You should definitely do your VR at Disney--not cheesy at all...and you could do it intimately (under 20 people) relatively inexpensively. We will be going down for our anniversary, we are also trying to go down twice more before that:):)

You probably could go to Hawaii, but it would NOT be disney:) If you already have your room (like dvc points:)), the add-on is something like $2300 for up to 20 people for cake and champagne...not bad

Codie, you're making it hard on me to say no to VR at WDW... LOL I've been seriously considering calling them but I'm afraid of what they'll say it will cost... I wanted to get married at WDW but couldn't afford it and it would be so cool to renew our vows there... We do own DVC plus are annual passholders so I don't know if it would be a good deal for me.
BTW, congratulations on your wedding!!! I looked at the pictures and they look awesome. Your dress was absolutely beautiful (and so are you) and your DH looks very handsome. Best wishes for a long, happy marriage.

Hey guys, what a great time!!
Can't wait to do it again.
We certainly represented quite a few states.
Illinois, Maine, Georgia, Rhode Island, Texas, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa ( I know those are not states), Virginia, and Iowa. Sorry if I missed anyone.
Did you guys have fun at P.I.? I had an 8:30 Segway Tour scheduled or I would have loved to join you!!

Well - I'm *nearly* moved into the Dolphin. Actually, I'm sitting in the business center unpatiently waiting for my room to be ready!! I was SOOOO hoping to be in my room napping by now!!
ANYWAY - the meet was fun and it'd be great to do it with you all again! Thanks to the PI crowd for making my first visit a memorable one! For some reason though, when I took a few of my other lush friends the other night, no one laughed during the singing of Old McDonald!!! We also did the Monorail Drink-A-Thon, sans WL and the swanky GF. We were lucky enough to have Nicole as our waitress in the Outer Rim again and this time I was able to get a REAL Radiant Red Sunset - WITH the glow cube. It really does make the difference!!
Thanks again to all who attended. I'll post my pictures when I get back, can't wait to see yours Dagny. Looked for you briefly at Jelly Rolls Monday night, but seems I missed you.
Any Lushes interested in another WDW meet, I'll be back in June. And any Lushes interested in trying a Disney cruise - you'll find me on the Magic August 26, 2006.
Cheers!

Hmmm, no one laughed at Old McDonald, huh? What a shame... I am laughing right now...

You are going to have to tell me what you think about MNSSHP - I am not going to give anything away, but let's "review" when you get back :)

mikkiwikki, the Tag Fairies place a "tag" right under your screen name, where yours reads now "Earning my Ears." The fairies act when you least expect it and usually do it based on something you said that amused them. Also, the tags are usually in color.

Has anyone ever tried not making a sound while LOL????
Let me tell you - it hurts! I finally got back yesterday and just decided to push my work aside for a few minutes to check in with ya'll. Then, when I saw the postings, pictures, and new 'tags', I just about passed out from trying not to let my boss hear that I'm back and still not working!! Of course, it doesn't top being on the ferry to the Swan/Dolphin and having the entire boat stare at me while I'm crying from lauging so hard at a text message from my friend telling me that she saw "Cristy's lime green dress" in the Morocco pavillion!!!!!!!!!!!
Will try to get myself organized in the next couple days to post more about my adventures, a new use for the backscratcher, and a new coat of arms I'm thinking of making into an avitar. Oh and a couple pictures of someone from our little meet that I happened upon while she was in the World Showcase Player's little skit in the UK.
Cheers!
P.S. - My June trip will be sometime around the 17th. It's a trip for my nephew's 10th birthday and if any of you are going to be around, I may need some evening kid club recommendations!! Oh, and in August, I'll be there around the 20th for MY b-day trip, too before the cruise!!

Boy, I wish I could have joined you all! It sounds like a great time. I will be back in the World several days from June 26-July 18, but would love a meet from July 7-9... (The rest of the time I am taking my nephew for his 11-year-old birthday trip, and just can't see making him sit in a room while I celebrate!)
I just returned from my October 1-October 8th trip. I am in love with the Food & Wine Festival!! I hardly got to enjoy it at all, since this was a trip all about my 80+ year-old inlaws (and it was great for that purpose). They just weren't up to the seminars at all. I did get to enjoy the booths twice, and loved that the dining plan allowed the booths to be snack credits.
I also got to do a Lunch & Learn. Now that was fun!! One of the wines, a Cab, was delicious. Unfortunately, we learned that it is a $75 bottle. I even liked the dessert wine here, which is unusual for me.
I also really enjoyed the Walkabout at Australia. The wine guides were so charming - my 23 yr. old was smitten!
The Halloween Party was adorable. If you have never been, but are going, PM me for tips. I learned a few things about how to best "do" the party...
Since this was an inlaw trip, I can tell you that MUCH alcohol was consumed EVERYWHERE to survive the trip. I LOVE my inlaws, but it was exhausting and stressful...
I sure hope I get to do a Lush Meet someday. I'm not very hopeful, since I come from the opposite corner of the world! We should plan one for the next Food & Wine festival early. We could do one monorail run, and one run around the World... Maybe they will offer free dining again next year!

Glad to see you know about fans. And I can't believe people don't laugh at Old Macdonald.
Once upon a time I used to try to come up with animals to mention besides pigs or cows...but they know me and aren't ever going to ask me. Somebody, if you're ever asked, say a "snake."

Don't worry - they're on their way. I should have all pics, reports, reviews, stories, ext., ready for public viewing by next weekend, I hope!!!! Still just trying to catch up with life!!
Other animals are probably funny, but it's funnies when they they sing about the cows . . .
with a Moo Moo here and a Moo Moo there
here a Moo - there a Moo
everywhere a Moo Moo

lynn-You are so lucky! My Dh and I are actulally thinking of a quick, weekend trip during the first 2 weeks of Nov JUST SO we can do another PftS! It was that great! Really!
Dagney-I wish I would have seen you post before I left for my trip! :( I would have LOVED to try a $125 bottle of beer! The PftS was more than I even imagined it would be! PLUS...I got to meet mister disney and forever42!
I actually LOVED MNSSHP...did you not like it? Share what disappointed you, I am curious. We never waited more than 10 minutes for any ride (most rides 5 minutes) except Peter Pan's Flight which was 20 minutes. We got there at 4 pm, ate at CP (it was GREAT...I posted a review on the restaurants board) and we stayed til midnight.
luvthatduck-I also posted a review "bluezoo review + free Camp Dolphin" so check that out. You get free childcare for 2 hours at Camp Dolphin, but you must eat an entree each. They also do this at Shula's Steakhouse. We really enjoyed our dinner there. I had two "maytag martinis" with chopin vodka and blue cheese stuffed martinis! Yum!
Disneyholic-Your trip sounds great! I would love for you to PM me with tips for the next time we go to MNSSHP! I wish I could have done a lunch and learn. I am going to go online now and find out how much the South African Pinotage that I loved at PftS costs...I have a feeling I am not gonna like the price!
Ooo! I had my picture taken with Ming Tsai at the PftS! He was so funny and personable!
I also did a review of the FDP at HBD...it was awesome. We will eat there again most definitely!
I am now spoiled...BWV ROCKS! OMG...I sat my that pool and drank vodka/sodas till I actually WANTED to go down the Keister Coaster! wheeee!
POR was pretty great too, although a bit of a letdown after BWV...especially since we paid $125 a night for POR and $110 a night for BWV! But we loved the pool at POR (Old Man's island) and Boatwrights was adequate!
All in all, it was a perfect trip. Only sprinkled on us one time during fantasmic. Got to try several booths at the F&W Fest. DH agrees, we need to start planning our next Oct trip...not that we won't hit WDW once or twice before then! :wave2:

Cristy-Ok, I am going to have to INSIST that you go to PftS! Listen to me...it EXCEEDED my expectations. It was phenomenal. I do kind of wish we went with another couple, though.
While waiting in line outside the venue, I could tell my DH was a bit annoyed...wondering what I was getting him into. He was blown away by the experience. As we walked out of the venue just as Illuminations was finishing, he kissed me and said, "Wow, hon, you really know how to plan a vacation!" Made me feel so good!
I think I just called WDW Dine...actually, I probably called the 1 800 number and chose the "dining" option and booked it there. sooo worth the price ($95 per person!) I would love for you to go and give me a review!

For anyone who is mildly interested, you will find my recent 12 Day Solo Trip report here:
http://www.geocities.com/maine_jennifer/
Day 1 is the day of our Monorail Drink-A-Thon, complete with pictures.
Day 8 might be of some interest, too. Especially for TDC Nala!
Bit of a warning though... it is long, but it might entertain if you are so inclined to read the whole thing. It comes complete with pictures, the necessary personal ad, and my opinion.
I ran into some bandwith problems last night when I first put it out. Spent some time today rearranging things and hopefully it'll be ok. If you can't access it, try it again in an hour or so. If you have trouble accessing it, please let me know and I'll post the pictures seperately.
Any comments, suggestions, photography tips, notification of broken links or typos, would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think!
Cheers!

To my South Florida lush friends,
I hope that you are all safe after Hurricane Wilma. This was one scary storm... we were lucky and suffered no major damage, other than downed trees and a broken porch light. Although we were very lucky to get power back on Monday night, we still have no land line phone. Things are so bad in Broward County that even with power, it's almost impossible to find gas or food anywhere, plus driving is quite an adventure with most street lights out and so much debris everywhere.
We decided to drive up north to Orlando (we were coming on Friday, but moved it up to Thursday) to escape the devastation and we're staying at my mom's until we check-in on Saturday to BWV. We had a half tank of gas and had to fill up in Ft. Pierce... even that far up north we still had to wait 30-40 minutes for gas...
To all my other lush friends, please pray for everyone in So. Fla. We are resilient and are used to these kinds of storms, but it still causes a lot of problems when a major storm hits. Thankfully, our state is very well prepared and relief efforts are underway. Although they didn't meet their expectations to start relief efforts within 24 hrs, they are working out the kinks and making some progress. Florida Power & Light is restoring power to thousands of customers per day and it's expected to have restored power to most of Dade County within 2 weeks and Broward County within 4 weeks. Let's just hope they can do it sooner so we can all get back to normal.
WLL and ahhhhhhhhh!, I hope you are both safe and sound. WLL, I know you were in one of the hardest hits areas (right next to us) and I hope that you didn't suffer damage and that you and your family are ok.
If there are any other South Floridians who post here, please post as soon as you can and let us know how you fared after the storm.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
10-28-2005, 09:50 AM
Im so glad to read that you're ok, and making the best out of this situation! :3dglasses Our power returned yesterday so we're alright in that dept. No home damage (minor roof stuff) but there are tons of trees down and our perimeter fence is down as well. Just a lot of clean up stuff on our end. It is pretty mad driving around right now, Im trying to stay off the streets and have been only going out when necessary. My cousin was thinking about taking a quick vacation to WDW since her power is out, but they just got it back and might end up staying...I was hoping they'd go so I can catch a ride with them! :)
Anywho, I hope WLL is doing ok as well...I look forward to seeing her reply here. Everyone please take care! :)

I am HERRRE! I am HERRRE!
Thanks for checking on us, Cristy! I am glad you are doing well! You too, ahhhh! yes, that was SCARY! At least we had cool weather after the storm, so I survived without power pretty well. Believe me...I was PUSHING to go to WDW...but we had just been and we are TRYING to conserve $$$!!! Luckily, my parents (who live in Boca Raton and still do not have power) have a beach house in Melbourne that we all fled to on Tues and just returned home today. I cannot complain about hanging out at an oceanfront home with family, so I will zip my lips ...although we found out that MANY friends of ours headed up to WDW, and I did feel a twinge of jealousy. I am curious to hear how the crowds were, so please report, Cristy!
I was even trying to get my DH to go to PftS with me on Sat night, but he talked me out of it. Melbourne is about an hour or so away, but we decided that going to PftS and then driving home was NOT a good idea.
So I now have power and cable and running water. Oh...and a bottle of vodka! LOL...I was so PIZZED I didn't stock up before the storm! Had to drink DH's maker's mark!

Cristy, Ahhh, and WLL - So glad to hear you all are okay and doing well! My SIL and BIL live in Mirimar and they came up here Tuesday morning after they lost power and water. SIL just had a baby last Tuesday (the 19th) so they couldn't be without power and water.

Jen, I just got a moment to read your trip report. Good stuff ! I laughed all over again which means we certainly did have a blast!
I am up for it next year, who is with me?????
WLL: Ok, now that you have done MNSSHP..... I don't know how you could stand that freaking song, Boo to You!!! I kept waiting for the music to change with the scene only to find myself at the end of the parade stuck with that awful song in my head. The parade wasn't nearly as wonderful as the one we saw in 2003. Where were characters like the gang from Toy Story and Stitch? (I did love the Haunted Mansion float and the Pirates float though). Oh, what was that.... a huge commerical for Goofy's candy at the end... gag! :rotfl:
Glad our South Florida friends are doing well......
C: Did you get more points yet??? I know who I am begging when I run out ;)

10-31-2005, 08:00 AM
Hi Aidensmom! yes...enough already!
Dagney-Ok, I must be out of it...I do not even REMEMBER the song! LOL! And since this was my first MNSSHP, I have nothing to compare it to. I LOVED the parade! And I am NOT a "parade type person." I loved the headless horseman at the beginning...my DH is still talking about how cool that was. And I like those guys with the shovels that made sparks. We really enjoyed the whole evening. My DH and DD are still in awe of the "Hallowishes" fireworks show...especially at the end when you are surrounded by the fireworks. I, personally, prefer regular "Wishes' because I always get a little teary eyed in the show. I find it very emotional, whereas Hallowishes was just "Halloweenie."
Our seasonal passes expire Nov 19. :sad2: We decided to wait to renew them.

Hi, guys, I'm back....
Jen, I haven't had a chance to read your trip report... I really want to get to it but I have to borrow computers to post here and don't have the time....
Dagny, I did add on 120 pts but have not sent the paperwork back yet....
We went to MNSSHP on Sunday, 10/30 and it was sold out but all the rides we went on were walk ons.... loved it. I really liked Hallowishes but was not impressed with the parade... last year's was so much better. This time they bundled all the villains into one float... the one time a year they can shine they get relegated to one little part of the parade now.... Last year they had a lot more villain floats and felt more like Halloween....
I will post pix later, I'm trying to upload them.
WLL, I didn't do PfTS because we didn't want to spend the $$$$.... I haven't been able to work for 2 weeks and I'm self-employed, so no worky, no money and DH just started today and I think he'll have to take a whole week without pay. I just couldn't justify it, but I will make plans for it next year.
ahhhhhhh, we stayed at BWV and really liked it. The bartenders at the pool bar were fabulous. One of them, Ty, made me a drink called "Hurricane" to get over my Hurricane Wilma blues and it was very yummy! When I asked him what it had (after I drank it of course) he said rum several times.... We kept hopping from the hot tub (it was cold!) to the slide to the hot tub.... it was fun.
For F&W, we didn't do as much as we have in past years, probably because I was somewhat frazzled (had only 1/2 tank of gas and there was no gas anywhere... finally was able to fill up after a 30-min wait in Ft. Pierce... I was running on fumes). When we checked in, they offered me a handicap-accessible room right away but I declined and decided to wait for a regular room. We left our luggage in storage and walked to Epcot.
France: Vouvray (this was fabulous, loved it)
Spain: Tried the $8 sampling tour of 5 different wines, one white and 4 red. All good
Barley & Hops Market: Sam Adams Black Lager (excellent); BBQ Beef with New England Cornbread (excellent); Samuel Adams Chocolate Cream
Stout Cake (too chocolatey for me, but DH liked it)
Italy: Baked Ziti Carbonara with Pancetta (good)
Germany: German Weinkraut and Sausage (very good); Traditional Apple Strudel (very good); Lowenbrau Oktoberfest (excellent). Alexander, the CM selling pretzels next to the German booth kept talking to us and teaching us German words, he was great.
Australia: Did the walkabout. Wines were very good.
China: Pot stickers (very good) and Tsingtsao beer (good).
And by that time, I was tired and called to see if our room was ready and it was, so we headed back to collect our luggage. We unpacked and went to the pool.
Overall, it was a great weekend escape.

Hi Cristy! thanks for the trip report...i would LOVE to see some pics! i really enjoyed BWV,,,which room did you stay in? we were in 3133 which was waaaayyyy down the hall, but it was nice to be next to the stairwell and that much closer to the MGM walkway. I spent a few days at that pool bar, also. Mainly stoli/club sodas, though. I actually went down the keister coaster myself!
Can't believe you got another 120 points! how many does that take you up to? I am jealous!
Did you have a hard time getting into BWV? I thought it was hard to get a room there during Oct due to it's close proximity to Epcot and F&W Festival.
I here ya about the cash thing. I hope you do PftS next year, I want to hear your opinion.

WLL, yep, I sure added more points cuz the deal was too good to pass up and I don't have enough (total 350 now)... as it is, I would like more but can't afford them right now and want to wait until the next property (strong rumors about north wing at CR). I booked my BWV studio about 6 months ago with points so it was not difficult; actually, they didn't have the weekend I wanted available (I believe it was the weekend before our stay) so I settled for that one.

I know what you mean.... we were pretty close to the elevators & lobby, so I'm not complaining either. So far, I've liked every room I've stayed in except one, it was our WL concierge... that one really sucked... ugly view and solid wall balcony... it was awful and so not worth the money... after that, I learned not to stay concierge there and my last courtyard view was amazing. Going back this Xmas and staying at the VWL. Can't wait!

WLL, I was not impressed with WL concierge at all... and we had stayed the prior year at the AKL concierge and we were blown away. That made WL's one even more of a disappointment: terrible balconies, no lounge, food selections were so so.... I'm sure it has improved now with their new lounge but I still wouldn't do concierge there. I've heard of people staying concierge but requesting a different floor and getting it, so that could be a possibility. I love the WL but will never do concierge there again, even with the new lounge. I would like to try Poly's concierge next, but that one will burn a hole in my pocket so it'll have to wait. My pockets are still healing from my DVC add on :earseek: and will be for a while...

Hi Cristy! Glad you posted!
My Thanksgiving was great. I saw that show, hosted by Raven, that you mentioned. Now I really want to go at Christmastime!
I am a little bummed right now, I made a ressie at WL for the last weekend of January...but FL res rate was $195 a night with tax and everything (woods view.) That is way too high, I am used to paying around $140 a night in Jan w/ a FL res rate. DH and I discussed it and I cancelled it the next day. I would love to rent points again, but we cannot get away on a week night, and weekend points are just too dang high!
On a happy note...I do have my next Oct trip reserved at BWV! Renting points from the same gentleman...we want to duplicate our last Oct trip....it was the best ever!
So, you are checking in on Christmas Day? What a great way to spend the holidays. I am pea green with envy! Please take lots of pics. Will you be having Noche Bueno at your parents?

WLL, yes, we're checking in on the 25th but we're actually driving up on the 23rd. We'll have Noche Buena at my parents on the 24th (I'm bringing the roast pork, plaintains and moros...I have to make the puertorrican eggnog, "coquito," as well... yum) and then we're all having Christmas Dinner at Cape May Cafe on the 25th. We can't wait.... we were so excited yesterday while watching the show we just couldn't sit still.... we kept hugging each other and jumping around... such a silly family....lol.
I decorated my Christmas tree this weekend (while drinking Sangria) and I'll post pictures soon. I still have to finish the rest of the decorations. DH hasn't put up the lights yet.... sigh... he was supposed to do that this weekend... I usually build a village as well, but I don't think I'll do it this year. I started just too late. My DD wants to do it, so maybe I'll do a mini one with only 2 or 3 houses, just for her.

Hi everyone, I had just been thinking about how it had been a while since anyone posted on this thread. I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was great!
I met a couple of friends at WDW the day after Thanksgiving. We went to Big River Grille for dinner and split the beer sampler among the three of us while waiting for a table, and then we all had a glass of our favorite with dinner. I think mine was called something like Winter Magnolia. Then we went to Jellyroll's and had a great time.

Cristy-Sounds like a great plan. OMG, I LOVE cocquito...even more than egg nog or the Cuban version ...think it is called "Creme De Vie" or something like that. Cocquito has coconut in it, yes?
Last night, we were watching that show and DD started whining, "I want to go back to Disney!!!" Her Bday is Dec 27, and we are planning a gymnastics party for mid January...that will probably set us back $300 or more. A lightbulb went of in my head...I may give her the option of going to WL with her cousin (he is the same age as her) for a weekend, OR her party. Is that mean? The reason I feel it is mean is because I feel guilty, I guess. I "REALLY" want to go to the WL! I wouldn't feel so guilty spending the $$ if I knew we were taking some of the money allotted for her party...KWIM?
My DH said to me the other day, "I wish we were walking into the lobby of the WL right now!" I said, "Awww, honey, you miss WDW that much?" And you know what his response was?
"No, honey...I miss what WDW does for YOU. You are always so huggy and lovey dovey when you are there. I can just tell you are completely happy there."
Guess it shows. :confused3 :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc
Anyway, I can totally picture you guys hugging and jumping around. I promise you, we would be doing the same thing if we had a trip planned in the near future!

WLL, coquito DOES have coconut, not to mention a good amount of puertorrican rum!!! I have to go out and buy the ingredients so I can make it this week. This drink needs to "marinate" for several days before it's ready for drinking, so I need to make it now so I can start the "testing" this weekend ;)
RobinB, I LOVE the new picture of your little girl! How much she's grown... she's a little lady. I was looking at my itinerary and we have ressies at Chef Mickeys on the 29th at 7:10 pm. We could meet at the lounge before that... my only plans that afternoon were the DVC merry member mixer at 3:00 pm and maybe a round of mini golf.
Aidensmom, I love Aiden's pix in front of the tree... wow, he looks big! Did you tell me he was four years old? I was in Orlando Thanksgiving weekend but did not go to the parks... that weekend means shopping for me and that's exactly what I did... wow, I was wiped out at the end of the day... more than when I go to WDW... go figure!

I just wanted to pop into this thread because today I really need a disney fix! I had a terrible day at work today and am sitting here with a glass of Vidal Blanc wishing I was at Territory Lounge at the WL. :flower:
Our next trip is very close, Jan 28 at OKW. I heard the Gurgling Suitcase was a good pool bar, how about any other? This is our first trip on points as new DVC members and we are bringing our DS down for the college program.
Thanks for letting me vent. Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Lindamary!
Don't be down! :sad1: You are drinking a glass of wine, you are new DVC owners, you will be at WDW in a month...and your son is going to be in the Dis college program? Sounds like life is pretty good! :cool1:
I have stayed at OKW one time. The Gurgling Suitcase is fine...but it is no Territory Lounge! I just LOVE :lovestruc the TL! So perhaps I am a little biased!
You will have a great time...January is such an awesome time to go to WDW! I *MAY* get a chance to be up there that weekend also...crossing my fingers that it works out!
Come visit us any time!

WLL - I didn't actually go to any of the parks that weekend, just hung out at the resort and Downtown Disney, so not sure of the crowds there. DTD was quite busy though, so I would guess the parks were pretty crowded too.
Ctrabada - Yes, Aiden is 4. I had thought about doing a little shopping in Orlando that weekend too, but just couldn't get myself to fight the Thanksgiving Weekend crowds.

Thanks WLL, I do feel better today. I have to stop letting my job get to me sometimes. Thanks for the kind words!
I hope you got the Disney fix you were looking for!
Between family time, work time, and volunteer time the last 4-5 days, I've had very little DIS time. I'm hoping that will change a little at this point.
Now, on the upside, my last major deadline before our January WDW trip is done as of Thursday at 7:30 (much too long for a work day but its over now). Friday was cleaning up all the little things that accumulated at the office while I focused on preparating for the Thursday presentation. DW and I polished off a bottle of wine Friday night with dinner, after we excused the kids from the table.
The rest of this weekend has been birthday party city with DW and I driving hither and yon. DW just got back from picking up DD6 from the last one. Looks like I'll need to continue this later as we appear to be having an impromptu play date; DD6 came home with two friends.
I'm looking forward to a night during our trip when my mom can watch the kids, and DW and I can hit the lounge at the Poly followed by a walk on the beach...Well, if not this trip, we'll have to think of something for the trip next December for our 10+1 anniversary at the Swan without the kids; this will be our first trip alone together since the arrival of DS.

Hi, everyone!
Pixie dust to all who need it!
I actually need some... I just came down with acute bronchitis... ugh, I feel terrible... and my DH just burned the chicken soup he was making me... yes, now you know you CAN burn soup! So my house smells like smoke and I decided to close myself off in my office to avoid inhaling and starting a coughing fit!
Just counting the days.... 12 til we go to Orlando, 14 until checking in to VWL...

Here's some pixie dust from me and my best wishes for your speedy recovery.
I haven't quite reached the point of burning soup, but I have messed up hard-boiled eggs. :rotfl2: In my defense, I personally can't stand them and did not know that you had to put the eggs in the pot first rather than drop (and crack oops) them into the water. :rotfl:
On my front, I need to go check on DD6, DD8 and friends who have found a package of super elastic bubble plastic, which I loath. Is that stuff toxic or what? I shouldn't complain too loudly as DW has agreed to clean up any incidents involving the goop.
I wonder if we have a bottle of wine in the house that DW and I can split over dinner...

Welcome David and family! :wave2:
That is great that Grandma will be travelling with you, so you steal away for an evening! The most popular drink at the Tanbu is the "lapu Lapu...a fruity rum concotion, served in a hollowed out pineapple. I also had a "backscratcher" there, and it was delish...and POTENT!
CRISTY! Guess what???? I JUST WENT TO A WALK IN CLINIC TODAY AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BRONCHITIS! OMG, what a conicidence! I got the Zpack of anitbiotics to take..how bout you? I actually have DD spending the night at my parents tonight...they will take her to school in the morning which is very nice of them, as they live in Boca and her school is in Davie! Man, I feel like total crappola.
I had bronchitis last year...almost EXACTLY a year ago...first week of Dec! That was my first time contracting it, and from what I understand, it can be recurring. :confused3
Ummmm...can we drink while taking antibiotics????? :p

David, thanks for your well wishes and I hope you found the wine bottle tonight.
WLL, I get this darn thing every year (one of those things that stick with you when you're an ex-smoker... your lungs don't quite recover... I quit 14 yrs ago and I still get bronchitis every year). Well, after my burnt soup incident, I had to settle for canned clam chowder... My doc gave me a prescription for the Z-pak but said not to take it unless I did not feel better in 48 hrs... he had a feeling that it's viral, not bacterial. I dunno, I actually do feel better, but I'm not sure if it's thanks to all the cough medicines and inhaler he prescribed. Which walk-in clinic did you go to? Is there one in Weston? I go to the one on Sheridan & Dykes where the Lowe's is located.

Welcome dandee00! Wow, driving from Canada... what an adventure! Actually, my family and I drove from Miami to Canada many, many years ago... I think I was around 10 years old. We saw the Niagara falls from both sides and stayed a few days in Toronto. I'll never forget that trip and how beautiful Canada is... I would love to visit again.
I'm actually thinking about taking a trip at the end of January/beginning of February but I haven't nailed a date yet. A cousin from Texas will be in town for business and it's my DH's bday, so what other excuse do I need? ;)

Welcome Dandee! Jaunary is such a wonderful time to visit WDW!
Cristy-Dayum!...wish I would have read your post just 10 minutes ago. That tip makes sense...I should have waited. I just took the first dose after my second helping of soup. I wondered how this doctor knew if it was viral or bacterial. I just want to feel BETTER so I did not quiz her...she said Z pack...I ran and got Zpack!
You know, I was vomiting today (sorry if TMI) and I thought that was weird, as I do not think that is a symprom of bronchitis. Well I told the doc that all I had taken today was a prescription cough med prescribed that LAST time I had bronchitis. She said, "You know that has codeine in it, right?"
Well, the ligh bulb went off in my head...I had not eaten anything..and did not follow the directions. It says to take 1 tsp every 4 hours. Well, I JUST SWIGGED IT OUT OF THE BOTTLE! No measuring for this lush! Once in the morning, and once a few hours later (not even 4 hours.) No wonder I was vomiting, had the shakes and the sweats! It took me all day to finally feel better!
Last year I went to the clinic that you mentioned. It was $150. The one in Weston is over $200. This clinic was in Coral Springs, only a minute or two off of the Sawgrass and only $69 (they do not take insurance) and is run by a husband/wife team. It was spotless and friendly.
I *do* have health insurance. We pay, for our family, $650 a month. It never covers ANYTHING...really sux!
The coquito will keep, won't it??? What a bummer!
Hope that clam chowder satisfied you. Funny how, when you are sick, only soup will do!
Here's hoping we are BOTH better by Friday afternoon! :teeth:

WLL - Thanks for the advice on the lapu Lapu; I may have to give it a try. DW has an aversion to rum, so we may have to find a different beverage for her, maybe the backscratcher you mentioned if it's not rum based.
Sorry to hear you're under the weather. I hope you get well soon! We had a similar sinus/throat/brochitis type illness run through the family starting about a week and a half ago with DS getting it last and symptoms ending Friday; each of us had a mild fever the first couple days. Between the crazyness at the office, illness last week and b-day parties all weekend, DW and I will be spending a good portion of this week trying to get things back under control.
Cristy - We did have another bottle hiding in the fridge. All we had was a bottle of sweet, white with bubbles, but it worked. I was at the store but could not buy anything else (no alcohol purchase on Sunday in Fulton County, GA :(). I hope you recover quickly as well!
Back to work so I can fund the upcoming disney trips...

I think your DW will not like the Lapu Lapu or Backscratcher as they're both rum-based. But they have a South Pacific Cosmopolitan and a Maui Rita that sound delish and with no rum!

tsk! tsk! tsk! You shouldn't have any antibiotics left at all! Take care of yourself and see a doctor! It might just be viral and in that case the antibiotics won't do any good. Or, it might be bacterial and in that case the few pills you have left over won't knock it out properly. I wonder if it's the same infection ...

Hit that Zpack, baby!
Yes, definitely hit the Zpack!! Thanks to Zpack I was able to do the Monorail Journey in September and meet some great people! While I still wasn't 100%, 90% was good enough. Never did use the refill she gave me (yes I was that sick that I was prescribed a refill). Lots of sleep in days, lots of wonderful sunshine, and more alkeehol cooked the rest of it out of me. :p
Guess what . . . you know how some folks mentioned meeting up again in October??? Well, since I really liked that idea and enjoyed the mid fall break, I canceled my 7-night DCL cruise to take a long weekend at WDW in October and one in December. That means starting in June, I'll be going to WDW every other month for nearly a year! Woo Hoo! :cheer2:

Thought I'd share this with my fellow LOTW members!!
Tequila Christmas Cake
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 large bottle tequila
2 cups of dried fruit
Sample the tequila to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the tequila again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup...just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy.
Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
Pick the frigging fruit up off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity.
Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.
CHERRY MISTMAS!!

I found the recipe quite enlightening. :rolleyes1
We did not have any tequila on hand, but I substituted a box of chocolate truffles DW had "accidentally" purchased at a silent auction - "I just put my name down to get the bidding going." :rotfl2: There were several chocolate filled cordials in the basket along with the truffles.
I can say with the voice of experience that there was a very pleasant glow after my attempt at cooking, not quite the kick of tequila but a very certain sense of chocolate satisfaction...DW assisted in this particular attempt.
We may try again tonight with the rest of the truffles. It's Sunday again. I need to find some candidates for county office who will ditch the "no sale on Sunday" restrictions...
BTW, the chocolate basket was not the only item she "got the bidding going" on.... :rolleyes2
I HOPE ALL THOSE UNDER THE WEATHER ARE WELL ON THEIR WAY TO COMPLETE RECOVERY! :wizard:

I also wanted to post that I FINALLY got to meet Cristy! We met nearby and I had a chardonnay while she had a Killians...and our DD's played just a few feet away at a play area in the center of the mall (we could see them from our seats, of course.)
She is just as sweet and lovely in person as she is on the boards. I know many of you have met her, so you know what I mean.
It was fun to chit chat w/someone about WDW that actually has a lot of knowledge on the subject. She pulled out her Palm Pilot and we reviewed her ADRs...made me soooo jealous that she will be there in just a few days.

As some of our other lushes discovered, I have a somewhat sharp tongue (hence my lovely tag from the tag fairy)... but thank you very much for the compliments. I thought you were very sweet and lovely too... People, this woman is gorgeous, and so is her daughter.
I went to the doctor again and he prescribed stronger antibiotics, another bronchial inhaler and lots of rest so I can be healthy for my upcoming trip. And of course, I'm writing this from one of my client's computers, cuz I'm supposed to be working.... ;) Yes, I do work at this ungodly hour so I can leave early and spend time with my DD. Left the corporate world behind to do consulting so I could watch her grow instead of just watch her go to sleep when I came home late every night from work... less money but more fulfilling so I can't complain.... thanks to this I've been able to visit WDW more often than before... I hope I never have to go back to corporate America...
OK, now that I'm rambling, I should just go back to work! Talk to you all soon!

Looks like I may not be able to hit Tambu for a drink on this trip. Last Saturday I ended up in the ER for neck/shoulder/arm pain. They thinks its either a pinched nerve or a herniated disk; I won't know for sure until they analyze the MRI data taken yesterday.
In either situation, however, the doctors gave me a green light to go on the trip as long as I'm careful (no attractions with neck injury warnings) and I pop the prescribed meds as needed. The meds have big warnings against combining with alcohol. :(
I'd still be up for trying to get together with anyone whose around. The meds will have me sufficiently toasted to fit right in. :)

Tigger...how was your trip?
Thanks for asking! Between catching up at work and appointments with doctors and physical therapists, this is the first chance I've had to get back to the DIS boards. :(
We had a great trip! I have to say the worst part of the trip on my neck was the drive down and the drive home. I pretty much played it very conservative in the parks. I wore a neck brace the entire time we were in the parks. I was also on my muscle relaxant and narcotic pain killer for the entire trip.
We stayed at the Poly GVC. The concierge CM were absolutely wonderful, and the chefs in the lounge were great about DD6's peanut allergy. When we arrived, we found that the IPO/concierge folks were able to land us a breakfast for 6 at CRT, which we had requested but could not get a confirmed ADR. DW then did a full revamp of our ADRs with CM to work the breakfast into the schedule. The weather was kind to us, so almost every day of the trip we had an afternoon break at the pool.
We did not make it to Tambu or the beach for my B-day, but we did see the Wishes fireworks from the lounge with the kids in PJ's. I was buzzed significant portions of the trip from the narcotics, so any kind of alcoholic beverage would have been a big no no. Given the current treatment plan for my neck injury, it looks like it will be at least four to six weeks before I'm off the meds either because that plan worked sufficiently well or because it didn't and I'll go for the surgery option.
During our stay, we visited MK, MGM, Epcot (me, DM, and DDs) and AK (DW and DS). With the my oldest at 8.5, we had no problem spending the bulk of our time in Fantasy Land in MK. It's a Small World was just as good the 4th or 5th time as it was the 1st; of course, that may have been the narcotics talking. :rotfl2: We did some mild rides in Adventure Land - Magic Carpet and POC - without any problems. My mom tooks the girls on Splash Mtn while I sat that one out. She had to buy the picture to prove to the folks back home that she actually rode it. :)
At MGM, we did the shows for the most part. I sat out with DS when everyone else Star Tours (height requirement again). We then did a three way split at MGM after lunch where I took DS, DW took DD6 and DM took DD8.5. DS and I wandered around meeting characters while DW and DM took DDs on other rides and shows.
DM and I did Epcot with DDs while DW took DS to AK on our last day in the parks. We did a few low impact rides, and then hit world show case for lunch and touring.
Our last morning, DM headed for the airport early in the AM, and the rest of us said a final goodbye to ::MickeyMo at the 'Ohana character breakfast. Click thumbnails below for larger version.

Our next trip looks like it will be in December. That one will be just me and DW for our 11th anniversary. We may do a short trip in July as we will be driving down to Tampa for DW's grandfather's 90th birthday party.

"I'm going to Disney World"
Next weekend!!!
Finally got fed up yesterday afternoon and since I had to spend the last 45 min at the Switchboard, I spent some time online and booked my trip. With the AP rates out (bye bye best rate!! :flower: ) and a decent airfare, I'm outta here next Saturday. Will be flying out right after I take my nieces to Disney On Ice, then spending 9:30 pm Saturday to 7:00 am Tuesday at WDW!

Hi Nezy and Welcome!
That is the beauty of the monorail drinkathon...it is totally up to you! If you go at night, the pool bars will be closed.
I REALLY, REALLY love the Territory Lounge at the WL! It is right in between WCC and AP. It is so cozy and rustic. The pool bar at the WL (Trout Pass) is also good!
The Poly has the Tambu Lounge, next to Ohanas. I am sure they have an awesome pool bar, but I have not been *WLL making mental note to try Poly Pool Bar next trip*

Hey Pooh- Can you have one FOR me as well? We were there a week and a half ago, and I could not drink anything with the meds I was taking. :(
Did you like CRT?
WLL- I liked the pool bar at the Poly the trip before my most recent one back in 11/03. I had a Pina Colada that contributed nicely to the atmosphere - viewing the castle sitting pool side while DDs then 4 and 6.5 were swimming and the older one was hitting the volcano slide.
As to CRT, I was a little disappointed in the food; I seem to remember it being much better the last time we ate there. The princess interaction was pretty good. It was the morning of my b-day, so the server brought a card that each of the princesses signed as they visited our table. Since the reservation was also tagged with our 10th anniversary, we also received a pair of souvenir champaigne flutes, which was kind of neat. Here's a pick of DW and me (sporting my twin b-day and magical moments pins) with Snow White.

I posted a review over on the restaurants board with a few more details.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1002190
As I mentioned in the review, we may be done with princess meals for a while. Our DDs were a lot less excited this time around than when we did either CRT or Akershus in the past. Of course in a few years DS may want us to start up again... :rotfl:

Speaking of tips, how are the bartenders. Do they subscribe to the bartenders unwritten rule "buy 3 get 1 free"?
We are leaving Friday for the weekend-can't wait. I am going w/ friends who have never been to WDW, so this will be a good way to tour!

LOL nezy...i do know of that unwritten rule, but I have not had much luck at WDW with that one. I remember being at the TL once, and I had two martinis, paid the tab and of course left a nice tip (I am a former waitress.) I then casually asked the bartender, "isn't there a little bit left in the shaker?" He smirked and said, "Uh, yeah...there is a little bit left" and proceeded to mix me up a new one, no charge.
I am going to porvide a link for my #1 WDW tip...be right back...

In Dec we were hotel hopping while my sister was getting wedding pictures taken at every hotel's Christmas tree! We went to the Poly pool following the wrong bride (from a distance they all look the same, lol!) and got drinks there. They weren't great, and I wasn't nuts about the ambiance. When we went into the REAL bar(next to O'hana), the bartender asked where we got the drinks, and when we told him he took each and every one of them and dumped them out and made us replacements. He said, "let me make you a REAL drink!" We were stunned. The replacement drinks were awesome! I wondered how he knew the drinks were no good and IF he did know, why something hadn't been done about it?

How about an Island Sunset and/or a Backscratcher if you make it to Tambu.
Done the Backscratcher thing - twice. Not a bad little drink. And the backscratcher comes in handy for opening the lower drawers at PC. Been thinking of making up some sort of coat of arms with my two souvenirs, but just too lazy.
If your at Scat Cat's, I've wanted to try the Sassagoula Swamp Water

Hey guys! I should have joined this thread a lot earlier since I, uh.. quite enjoy my drinks at Disney. :teeth: I don't think I go to Epcot without stopping for a wine or a beer.
Anyway, I'm usually the one giving this advice (evidenced by my sig :) ), but I'm kinda stuck on what to do for dinner on Saturday. FH will be between business trips and has class all day, but we're going to sneak in a park evening (probably Epcot) and have no idea where to go. We've done most of the "big" places and all of the World Showcase. We're open to everything, CS, bars, sitdowns, park, resort, whatever - probably not any place that doesn't take DDE and not V+A - but we're going in three weeks anyway! :Pinkbounc
Oh, and I'm asking here because of the like-minded-ness.
Big River Grill, we haven't done and sounds interesting. Anyway, any thoughts? We're apprehensive about trying the bars again for dinner since it was terrible at the Tambu Lounge with the new menu :(
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=940142
Check it out!
I think of you and this every time I go to PI :teeth: I tend to be more of a wine/beer person in restaurants since I'm not terribly familiar with a lot of cocktails unless there's a pretty list in front of me. Do you have any suggestions for things that can be doubled?
brivers222, my standard "drinking around the world" goes like this:
Canada (Le Cellier) for lunch, wine/cocktail/beer, whatever mood I'm in
UK: Strongbow, Guinness, or Bumblebee (Long Islands are terrific here, though)
France: red wine, champagne, or beer
Morocco: Tangierine Cocktail - best deal for your dollar at Disney, drinkwise. They usually put about 4 shots worth in, and it's $6 (shhhhhh)
Japan: Samurai at the lounge - plum wine, vodka, lime juice
US: haven't done this since I started drinking beer, but I suppose a Sam Adams
Italy: red wine or limoncello
Germany: wheat beer or wine
China: not much of a choice here, usually go with Tsingtao because the plum wine is syrupy
Norway: Viking Coffee over ice
Mexico: skip! Bad beer and worse margaritas. Have a second drink somewhere else.
I choose what I'm in the mood for at the time. I don't have an issue mixing wine/beer/liquor, though, and I know that some do.

Hi Forever42! Yes, you should have joined this thread a long time ago, but we are glad you are here now! It was so great meeting you and FH (future husband?) at the PftS last Oct! DH and I are planning an identical trip to our Oct trip..., Oct 29-Nov5 this time. You know, i thought of YOU just two weeks ago...one of my PftS glasses broke! I treasure those glasses, and it was on the same day my wallet was stolen and my credit cards used, so I was feeling awfully low (hence the using of the wine glass.....drowning my sorrows.) Really pizzed me off...I remember you said the Reidel ones they gave a few years ago broke easily...well, this one did, too! :sad2:
Have you ever eaten at the Tangerine Cafe in Morrocco? I love Marrakesh, but I keep meaning to try TC.
As far as doubles go, I love vodka and club soda. With a lime. I also like Capt Morgan and club soda with lime. I always ask for it "on the rocks, with a splash of soda" cuz, well, what can I say, I like to taste the booze in there! I wonder if you ordered a frou frou drink (say, a pina colada or dacquari) and asked for a double (meaning a double shot of alcohol, not a doubling of the actual drink) if the same pricing would apply. Maybe you can try it and report back??? :thumbsup2
Honestly, I have not gone to BRG cuz I have heard negative things. And I am pretty sure you cannot use DDE there. I think if I went there, I would stick to something like a burger. I do believe ahhhhh likes the beer samplers there. I think there are pictures somewhere on this thread of he and his fiance drinking them.

Had a great weekend at WDW this past weekend. Will post a link to my trip report when ready. Drank only rum & diets, but anyway...
Had the best burger at WDW I've ever had at Big River Grill on Monday. It was amazing!! I went at around 1pm and had no wait, it was pretty slow, so maybe that had something to do with it. They do have the beer sampler, though I, once again stuck with rum & diet. Also had a side caesar salad, which was a good but not the best I've had at WDW. When I was there in October, I was was on the Dining Plan and had the chocolate cake which was just great!!
Cheers!

Forever42, I ate at BRG back in November, and I thought it was very good. I had what was called something like "Cherry Crusted Chicken".
WLL - DH and I have eaten at the Tangerine Cafe, we thought it was very good, some of the best counter service food in Epcot.

I was thinking Raglan Road since we still have one of those Clear Channel GCs left.. hmm.
WLL, I'm sorry to hear that about your glass :( I haven't broken mine yet, but maybe that's because my pint glasses have been getting a better workout. :teeth: I'm glad you're coming back during the FWF! Maybe we'll get to run into each other again. :)
And the doubles thing, that's my aunt's favorite, a vodka and soda with a lime, I'm not a big fan :P I've tried an LIT doubled but they won't ;) I tend to stay away from things on the rocks because I feel like.. hey.. I have this at home, why don't I just go home and pour myself some? I'll play around with it, though. Also, WLL, if you like the taste of alcohol, have you had the Zombie at the Polynesian?
Tangierine Cafe is one of our favorite CSs at Disney as well - Sunshine Seasons is beating it lately, though. At Tangierine Cafe, the food is always fresh, hot, and healthy to boot! And definitely try the Tangierine Cocktail over at the pastry counter! I can't recommend it enough.
We haven't done BRG because of the reviews, either. I just got a job three weeks ago, though, so we're able to be just a little more free with money. :) The prices aren't TOO bad, though, even though they don't take DDE, and that beer cheese soup has always sounded interesting...

Zombie at the Poly...hmmm, must check it out. I do not usually like to drink booze mixed with fruit juices, cuz I tend to get sick. I will only do it if I am having one drink, two maximum!
Yes, I am very bummed about my wine glass. my Dh made fun of me, cuz as I drank my wine, I would gaze lovingly at it. That was our first ever PftS and we just loved it. My DH was skeptical, and now he is SOLD on it.

For anyone who might be interested, my weekend trip report is up on my website:
http://www.queenofthefreakinuniverse.com/2006_January.htm
Was pretty cool because on Sunday, I went to the Outer Rim to watch the NFL Playoffs and our fun server from October, Nicole, was my server again. Did just as great as October, so it wasn't a fluke. There was a point when there were a ton of "little boys" doing play by play of the game. She asked if they were all mine! LOL Uh, NO!!
Oh, and I bumped into Amy at the Adventurer's Club the two nights I went. Was pretty funny sitting there relaxing, when someone sits forward in their seat and I recognize someone sitting on the other side of the room. Quite a cowinky dink!
I'm thinking about talking up the kids clubs to my nephew so he'll ask to go to one some night in June so I can head. Does that make me a bad Auntie??? He already wants to do the Pirate Cruise, so I get two hours free, but that's at 9:30 in the morning!!

So - Dagny brought up that we need to save the first of October for another meet. Sounds good to me and I know it's wicked far away, but I'm just curious if anyone is planning on it and what weekend you're planning on? I know, I know, I just got back and I'm already planning ahead. Well, I'm not really planning and locking in dates, but just curious. With changes at work, I've decided to cut my trips to long weekends this year to fit more in. Which means I'm only going to be able to make it for one weekend in October.
Not looking for definites, curiosity is getting the better of me on a Sunday morning with no coffee.

Hello! I have a few questions for my adults only trip next November, and this looked like the place to get answers! (Keep in mind that DH and I are diehard beer drinkers, but I am willing to step out of the box this trip for a mixed drink or two... or three...)
Question #1- The Monorail Drinkathon- The Grand Floridian is a beautiful place and I enjoy going there to look at Christmas decorations, but it seems a little "proper"... how comfortable will we be waltzing in to throw back a few? Is there anything "unique" about the lounge that makes it a "must do"?
Question #2- We will not be eating at 50's Primetime, but were thinking about stepping in the lounge for refreshments. Can you do this? Is the lounge worth it just for drinks?
TIA for any opinions! This is a great thread!

Hi Beth!! Welcome to the home of the lushes. :sunny:
Regarding the drink-a-thon - definitely hit up Mitzer's lounge at the GF. Their drinks, especially the raspberry martini, are yummy and it's a very relaxing cozy atmosphere. In fact, I might have some pictures from our drink-a-thon...if you scroll a few pages back you should be able to find them, it was Sept 2005.
I've never been to Prime Time for just drinks, but I don't see any reason that you couldn't stop in to just the lounge area. Heck, if you're at MGM and the mood strike for a drink, I say go get one. Hehe!
If you and your DH enjoy beer I *highly* recommend going to Big River Grill & Brewery at the Boardwalk. They have 6 or so different beers that they brew and they are all yummy. You can get the sampler and try them all and then pick your favorite. I know the restaurant has gotten some negative/so-so reviews, but DH and I personally love it. We've never had a bad meal (one time we had so-so service, but that was only one time out of the many times we've been and the so-so service was more that our waitress was inexperienced) and the beer is fabulous.
Let us know what other questions you have! When in November are you coming down?

Thanks for replying and the warm welcome MegMeg! We will be there from the Sat. after Thanksgiving until the next Sat. The first night we are staying at the Dolphin, so we can check out the Boardwalk and eat at Shula's (beer and big fat steaks...yum :thumbsup2 )... and then we are moving on to Pop or CSR. I am sooooo looking forward to this trip- I can't wait to check out the nightlife this time. I was having a hard time convincing DH that we could do this "adults only" and have a blast, and then I told him about the monorail drinkathon... the rest is history. ::yes::

What a great thread! It looks like there has been several mentions of a heavenly margarita at Mitzers and also Tambu Lounge ? DH and I aren't going until November, so I need to research very carefully to find the most worthy margarita in the world..
MegMeg I agree with you on the Big River Grill...great spot for good beer. love just relaxing and people/boat watching on the boardwalk.

weathergirl, I'm a HUGE margarita nut, and I've been trying margaritas around the parks and resorts to find the best. So far, the best has been the classico margarita at the Maya Grill at Coronado Springs. It's shaken and served martini style, and has a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and alcohol.
The ones at Mexico in Epcot, both the CS and the TS locations, have been the most dismal margaritas I've had in or out of Disney. :(

Well - since I posted that I applied for a position in another dept. Would mean a step up, a raise, but *might* not be able to get time off first weekend of October. :( Will have to see how it goes, but will hopefully get some October time off. Even if it's just a long weekend.
Dagny - I canceled my cruise. Wanted to be able to do an October weekend and December weekend and didn't have enough vacation time to do those and the cruise. So, I canceled it and my deposit refund paid for a long weekend away when I NEEDED it two weeks ago. Don't have to worry about pennies, too much. I have my full-time job - and 3 'when I have time' jobs. If I get the promotion, I'll quit 1 of them and keep the 2 fun ones. Will take any good luck pixie dust people have laying around. Not sure I'll get it, but should hopefully hear about it by Friday.
Oh, and I had Nicole as my server at the Outer Rim on that trip. You can read about it here:

My hubby and I NEVER miss a stop (or three) at the Tune-In Lounge at 50's Prime Time Diner! On one trip, we made a goal of drinking enough to get a dozen of the glowing ice cubes - we had to make two trips on our last trip to get 12 cubes, but we did it!! We really enjoy the offerings, and like both bartenders quite a bit.

Hey guys, we finally did go to Big River Grille for lunch on our (cheaper) "Valentine's Day" day out at Epcot last Saturday, and had a GREAT time! The view, food, and service were all terrific, but I was most impressed by the beers!
I had a seasonal stout, which was poured off a cask, and served at the *correct temperature* - how about that? I also tried the red ale, which was pleasantly hoppy and nothing like any other American type red ales that I've had.
I'm dying to go back again, I just wish they'd take DDE :teeth:
Btw, we never walked inside, just sat outside. Is there a bar inside, that we could just sit down and have a couple drinks without taking a table?

Ive been lurking the boards here and there...:)
Yes, you read right! Im going to Spain for spring break (13 days) and out of that, Melissa and I are going to Paris for 4 nights. We're staying at the Holiday Inn at Disneyland Paris because it has such a ridiculously good rate and its pretty easy to get to the center of town using their transportation services. So we're doing the parks for a day or two and the rest of the time will be spent in the city. :3dglasses

The food was *definitely* yummy. All we had were the beer cheese soup and the honey dijon sandwich, since we were heading over to Epcot for the rest of the day. But sharing both filled us, the sandwich was enormous and juicy, and the cheese soup was more of a thick spicy jalepeno cheese soup - didn't taste any beer. Mike and I think it's just as good as Le Cellier, just different.
Mike just said we can head over again soon since we can just sit at a bar. :) I can't believe that I've heard so many bad things about this place, since we enjoyed it so much.

HEYYYY - Dagny! I turned down that job so I'm about 90% sure I can get whatever time I want off for October. Are we talking first weekend of F&W Fest or the weekend before Columbus Day? I know, I know - there's PLENTY of time. Except that the 180 day window for ADRs opens up in 2 months. Woo Hoo!
So, something more pressing. I'm busy trying to plan my August b-day trip. Gonna splurge and go for a deluxe. Narrowed it down to Poly & CR. Which has the best pool bar???

I LOVE the ones at the Rose+Crown Pub at Epcot. They don't taste like the alcohol at all and are terrifically strong.
I'll have to try the ones at the Boardwalk, but the ones at the Pub have been my favorites so far.
And the Pub made me a black velvet last time we went, yay! Guinness+Strongbow, that was a good drink.

Right now, I'm looking at arriving late on the 5th and leaving on the 9th because it would only cost me one vacation day as we get Columbus Day off. Hopefully we can get something together because I will need it! My parents are tagging along this trip - long story. But I've already told them that I'm most nights I'll be taking off after dinner and they'll be on their own. My poor mother looked so scared when I said that. Last time my father took her out of the state on vacation, they ended up having to get dinner out of a vending machine because everything in the area was closed and it was only 6pm! I also have them convinced that to go to MNSSHP they have to dress up. LOL Thought that would scare them away, but it didn't work!
Cheers!

Hey guys, tried the LITs at Raglan Road last night and they're excellent - very strong and no alcohol taste, and no sour mix. I really think I don't like the ones with sour mix as much. Unfortunately they're a bit more than at the Pub in Epcot, $9. Ouch. Glad we were on the last GC from Clear Channel.
You know, that's the third time we've been and we really just can't get into it. There's a place here in Orlando that's a little closer called Fiddler's Green, and the food is better, cheaper, and they have a better selection of beers (25).

Hi Forever!
Thanks for the report...I rarely order LITs, but when I do, I also prefer no sour mix...blech!
I will have to try Raglan and see for myself, but I am making a mental note of "Fiddlers," even though I never cross WDW property lines when I am on vacation. I guess a lot of people are like me...when I go to WDW I do NOT leave property for anything! I mean, NOTHING! It doesn't even cross our minds. Funny, huh? So I will probaby suck it up and may too much for mediocre food and be happy. LOL. :teeth:

I was just thinking about this the other day. I always tell people that I don't keep going back just because it's Disney. Yeah, I enjoy Disney as much as the next person but it's not THE reason I keep going back. So, to back up my talk, I have decided that one day on my August trip, I'm going to grab a ride on a lynx bus and just ride around and <ack> see what's beyond the pixie dust gates.

Just found out the Alabama/Auburn football game will be the 18th, the day we arrive. (ROLL TIDE!!! :cheer2: ) Can someone tell me where would be a good place to relax, throw back a few coctails, and watch the game?? BIG bama fans here, and I will be extremely upset/ no scratch that/ it will kill me if I miss it. Any ideas?? And (just one more dummy newbie question) what is a LOTW?? Just wondering if I am one or if I could be a LOTW in the making! ;) Thanks...
