Maine_Jennifer, it is an excellent camera with lots of neat features (great optical zoom, B & W, sepia tone, panoramic mode, etc.) I highly recommend it.

THANKS! I actually went and bought it on Saturday. I was tired of looking around, I've always been happy with my Canon, so I just said, this is it. Now, I have to get a battery charger and recharge batteries and a couple more memory cards.

Cheers!

60 days to my first Monorail Drink-A-Thon!! Woo Hoo!!!!!

oh - I haven't stopped by here in a while....with my quest on losing fat and getting a hot bod I am laying off the vino 'til our October trip....(or keeping it to a minimum)....;)

I will be doing a Monorail Drink A Thon in December as we are staying at the Poly and no need to be driving anywhere!! I can't wait!

HAhaha I always try to do the same. It just seems whatever I loose, I end up gaining double after a trip to Disney :earboy2: But hey, isn't that what vacation is for? :goodvibes

Oh oh... GO CANES!

This whole thing seems kind of silly when compared to your loss. That was a really nice page/memorial. Sorry for your loss.

Total 'Noob' question, but I'm always keen to learn -

"What the HECK is "LOTW"????!!! "Lush of the World"? "Like Other Tequila Whatzits!?" "Liquor Often Tires Wife?" "Lush on the Wagon?!" I've searched but I can't find out if it's a moniker I would be proud to emblazon on my personal internet jacket - or NOT! This thread is HUUUUUGE!!!!

Curious minds need to know! 'Cuz I expect I either HAVE BEEN an LOTW in California for sometime - or I am soon be one in Florida.

Let me 'splain:

I am a long time Disneyland go-er, once-AP, current-CM, Tiki collector and very experienced at making the 'laps' at DLR (Ask us about: the Lost Bar, Napa Rose, Uva Bar, Paradise Cove, Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, The Lobby Bar @ Paradise Pier Hotel, House of Blues or the hotels across the street from the resort) PLUS the DW (former CM) was a frequent patron of the Neon Cactus. (All of you older Disneylanders will know what and WHY that is of import because it was perhaps the FIRST "serious" watering hole at any Disney Resort, but I digress....)

. . . my DW posts here as . . . ."handbag lady". Which I find very scary. (I always expect to find her posts next to a cartoon dumpster)

well.

We're off to WDW in less than 30 days and as a childless adult couple in our late 30's / early 40's we very much enjoy, errmmm.... "adjusting our mindset" while on vacation. I've been to WDW 3 times, the DW2 times - but that was - 3 or 7 years ago (depending on who you talk to - DW 7 years, me 3).

We have planned a grand circle tour of the lagoon via alcohol & monorail - but I'm trying to figure out the best SPOTS and best DRINKS at each location (and by BEST I mean coziest and / or most unique rooms and / or kick-brainiest concoctions). My DW is more of a Bass / Guinness / Boddington's / or girly martini type - I'm more of the scotch (Laphroaig / Islay scotches) or serious Tiki concoction type (Scorpions, Suffering B@$+@rd$, Navy Grog etc.).

And if anyone wants to meet up between 08.07 and 09.01 somewhere along the wavy way . . . . . . ?!?!?

DVD CM - Yeppers, you've got it right! LOTW = Lushes of the world. :sunny: I can't help you out too much with different drinks because I am a beer/wine/dirty martini girl, but for places definitely go to:
Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge
Outer Rim at Contemporary
Mizner's at Grand Floridian
Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian

And after you are done at these places, go over to the Boardwalk and end your evening at Jellyrolls, the dueling piano bar. :)

A little OT:
Laphroaig! The necter of the gods! My DH and I made the pilgramage to Islay on our 1st anniversary. We stayed in a B&B next to Lagavulin (sp?) and took the sheep laden one-way road to tour Laphroaig. I really must go back!

Back to the topic. As for beer, the vast majority of the WDW bars have the same selection with the most exotic being Sam Adams. You can get Bass, Harp, Guiness, Boddington's, half and halfs and black and tans at the Rose and Crown in Epcot, but that doesn't help you on the monorail. Perhaps the beer drinkers on the thread know a little more.

The good news is that girly martinis and "Tiki" drinks abound. The Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian is the place for "Tiki" drinks (well, duh!) Here is a picture (taken a few years ago) of my favorite drink there called the "Lapu Lapu":

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LapuLapu.jpg

And ... how about them Tiki gods?

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/Tambu2.jpg

I personally like Narcoosee's as my Grand Floridean stop (for the view of the MK), but Mitzers is the place for girly martinis and scotch.

As for the Outer Rim (at the Contemporary) or the Territory Lounge (Wilderness Lodge), I'm sure you'll find something to drink. You can also ask on the 2nd floor of the Contemporary if you can grab a drink up at the California Grill. They might let you if it's not too crowded.

And if anyone wants to meet up between 08.07 and 09.01 somewhere along the wavy way . . . . . . ?!?!?

Is this right?!?! You're going to WDW for 3 weeks?

DVD CM
08-02-2005, 05:08 PM
D'oh! Thanks for catching that typo robinb.

That should read "08.27 through 09.01". We're leaving WDW 09.02 but we haven't received our itinerary yet to know if we'll get much play time the last day.

Gee - I WISH it was 08.07 through 09.01!!!

Okay I'm taking notes everyone. Tambu Lounge was the only definite that I already had on my agenda. . . . now adding Outer RIm, Mizner's, Territory Lounge etc.

You went to Islay!??? How cool is that?!!!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Hi all!!!! I've been absentee for a long time and have no time to catch up on the last 25 pages of posts that I have missed...forgive me!!!! I need opinions...
I am FINALLY getting married and we are doing it at Disney!! :):) Our wedding is on a Thursday, I arrive on Monday morning and my fdh is coming Tuesday night late. Tuesday night early we are doing a NIGHT OUT! It was going to be girls only, but now it is anyone "in town"...here is where I need the assistance...

My maid of honor and I once tried (a long time ago before we knew from LOTW that it was a sanctioned activity) to "drink around the world" at Epcot countries. Originally the night out was going to be at Pleasure Island...but none of us are big dancers and at my bachelorette we started reminiscing about drinking around the world and I mentioned to my maid of honor that LOTW has also sanctioned a mono-rail-a-thon! I would rather not force people who want to participate to "waste" a ticket to drink around the world. So my question is: Do we do pleasure island or do we do the mono-rail-a-thon? And depending on your answer--what course of travel do you recommend? I would like to start somewhere with cheap fast food and then just all drinking after that? Any suggestions?? :):)

OH--one more thing to keep in mind...My guests are coming from either the epcot area resorts (Swan, boardwalk, beach club) or coronado springs, or ASM...so I need a convenient to get to starting place...

lynn71092 & Aidensmom - I've plastered that "invitation" everywhere I can think of, so we might have company. :teeth: It's amazing that with a thread of over 1,200 posts, people still haven't heard about a Monorail Drink-A-THon! :sad2:

Cheers!

Just wondering if we have any more people joining us. I am looking so forward to this.

I have a TON of 'maybes'. A few couples, a few solos, a few that live not too far from Orlando that may stop down. I think once it gets closer and we can decide on a time and make definites that we'll have more people confirm.

This is going to be so much fun - what a way to start a vacation!

Cheers!

Hi, everyone! Just a few weeks without posting and I had to read like 6 pages!

maine_jennifer, I really, really want to join you on the LOTW meet on Sept 30... but we're leaving on the 29th.... I'm trying to convince DH to stay until Sunday on the excuse of going to Universal Studios with our DD8 who has never been there... I'll keep you posted... this is a delicate diplomatic negotiation that requires much finesse and skill....

DVD CM, welcome! I am also a beer drinker but the selection at the resorts is not really that good... that's why I love the F&W festival. You can get Boddington's at the Rose & Crown in Epcot. The best tiki drinks, as other posters have said before, can be imbibed at the Poly's Tambu Lounge. The Lapu Lapu is wonderful but I've heard good things about the Backscratcher. I believe someone posted a picture of it here somewhere....

robinb, I was thinking of having my birthday dinner in Sept at Narcoossee's. I have a birthday Wishes cruise scheduled out of the Grand Floridian and thought that dinner at Narcoossee's would be a cool way to start the evening... Is the food there good? Oh, and btw, I loved the smiley letters! I must get some!

Mr. Disney, a warm welcome to you too!

Codie, I would suggest the monorail drink a thon rather than pleasure island. Or you might want to consider a Boardwalk drink a thon... ahhhhhhh highly recommends it as well. I'm sure he can give you a lot more info. You can start at ESPN where you can eat at a reasonable price and then continue down until you reach Jellyrolls or the Dance Hall.

Skyhawk, the "experimental ice cubes" are plastic ice cubes that light up. They have different colors and you "tap" them on and off. They drop them in your drink and make it glow. They're really cool.

My 80+ year-old inlaws decided just recently that they want to see what my DH and I enjoy about Disney World, and asked that we book a trip with them! We are going to the Food & Wine Festival!!

My question, to all my fellow lushes: This is my first trip to the Food & Wine Festival, so what FREE things do we HAVE to do? We have signed up for a Lunch & Learn, and tried to get a pairings dinner (all were sold out!). However, I want to also just explore the various offerings/attractions. What should we plan to do? How long does it take to do the F & W right? I know we will have to do it again, since we are taking two seniors in scooters this time through, but I couldn't be more thrilled!! :teeth:

P.S. LOVE the signature letters, RobinB! I'm green with envy. ::yes::

Hi Codie! I am so excited for you. To this day...I wish I would have gotten married at WDW...or at least honeymooned there! I think the suggestion of a Boardwalk drink-a-thon is a good one! I agree with you, you do not want people to have to "waste" a ticket to get "wasted" at Epcot! LOL!

Disneyholic! How cool! I am still trying to talk my parents into going to WDW with us. They cannot figure out what attracts us time and time again. I cannot give you any great recommendations as this will be my first F&W Fest. The only "special" thing we are doing is Party For The Senses on 10/15. What dates will you be there?

Hi Cristy! I have missed you! You did a great recap!

Ctrabada--Great idea for the Boardwalk-a-thon. Most of us are staying there and I wanted to end at JellyRolls anyway...so that would be perfect!!! And I love the brewery there on the boardwalk also!! OH YEAH, I am SOO excited...now the question is, do you hit the brewery in the middle or save it for the end...you know, liquor before beer, never fear...beer before liquor, never dicker...is that right?? I always screw it up!! I think we might skip the ADH because that is where the wedding reception is...probably should save it as special, right?? Thanks all for your thoughts!!

Yes, the food was very good. We had the PEI Mussels to start. I love mussels and these were delicious. I think my DH had the chowder, but I didn't try it as I am allergic to oysters and clams (but mussels are OK, go figure). I had the Ahi and my DH the Wahoo and I probably ended with the Creme Brulee, even though it wasn't plain. We were seated front and center at the windows since it was our anniversary. The view of the MK was spectacular. We watched Wishes from our seat and some very wide people parked their butts right in front of us on the deck just as the fireworks started. I rapped on the window and motioned them to move and they looked at me like I was the rude one! They didn't appear to be fellow diners, but passer bys that thought they would snag a primo view for the fireworks. I had a primo view (on my anniversary) of their very wide butts. Ohhhhh ... it's been almost a year and I am still peeved at those people!

We're eating at the California Grill (on the Free Dining Plan) for our anniversary this year. No deck for lookie-loos. If I get a good view, I'll have it for Wishes too!

BTW, you must tell us how the Grand is! Have a ... grand ... time!

Is the brewery still open? I sure hope so. I'm staying at the Dolphin on Saturday, August 27th through Sunday Sept 4. I'll be "alone" the first 4 days/night - so plan on doing a little bar hopping as a solo. I'm 40ish, and love to perch at the bar. Any info on the brewery or any other solo drinking tips would be appreciated. Thanks....

williejs, the brewery is still open. ahhhhh frequents the place quite often. I plan to visit it on my next trip. Other great places to perch at the bar are the Cali Grill, Tambu Lounge and Mizner's. I heard that Blue Zoo at the Dolphin has a cool bar too. Have fun and please post your lush report when you get back!

I have read all (or at least the vast majority) of posts on this thread and I've got to say that you all seem like a great group of characters.

We are planning a couple of trips to the world, but probably won't have any time for the monorail route. We will be down for the F&W Fest though, and I'm excited about that. Our DD(3) will be with us, so we are not going to spend too much time at Epcot. I'm also looking forward to the beer sampler at Big River because we usually go to the Big River in Chattanooga TN whenever we visit.

Have any of you gone to F&W with a pre-schooler? It will be a challenge to keep her entertained I'm sure. Maybe DW and I can take turns watching her this year. I'm thinking next year we may invite one of our siblings with us so that we can have a night or two out alone (how weird would that be?). Seems like forever since we've been out on a "date" lol.

There's plenty to keep your 3 y/o entertained at Epcot during F&WF!! They have a cute play area for the little ones - there's a maze, play area, and activities led by CM's. Also, each country has the Kidcot Fun Spots where your daughter can create a mask. The kids enjoy meeting other children at the little tables, plus the interaction with the CM's.

There are also many character meet & greets. The Character Caravan is so much fun; plus your daughter can meet characters at each of the countries. I know MK will always be the favorite for families with young children, but there's so much for all ages at Epcot!

Have a wonderful trip!!!

When are you going to the F&W fest? If you are going to be around on Sept. 30, several of us, as I am sure you have read, are doing our own little monorail drink-a-thon and would love for you to join us!

We aren't taking our son, who is 4, with us for our F&W trip, but we took him to Epcot just a couple of months ago and he really enjoyed it. Make sure you take your DD to the Crush (the turtle from Finding Nemo) show in the Living Seas pavillion. It is excellent for kids that age.

Guess what airline I WAS flying with!! UUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!! I haven't a clue what to do or where to start looking! :headache:

I hate traveling to the airports, but the only other one close by has airfare at over $175 more than what I was paying!!! :eek: Grrrrrrrr - I'm going everything I can to make sure I'm there for the LOTW meet - but keep your fingers crossed anyhow!

Thanks for the drinks all!

Well, I spent most of the day working on this, but good news is that I'm all set and not spending any more than I would've with the original flight.

Bad news is that I have to leave from NH, a 2 hour drive each way and they're both early morning flights (I wonder if they start serving that early???) AND I have to spend an extra night at WDW. Oh wait, that part isn't bad news, is it?? :smooth: Between the low Southwest Fares and even though I'm spending an exta night at a hotel, I'm not spending any more than what I'm being refunded from the other flight.

Monorail Drink-A-Thon - here I come!!

I have not had time to read all pages of this thread, but I have read enough to know that DH and I are definite members of the LOTW Club!! We won't be there to join the "BIG" LOTW meet in late Sept...unfortunately!!

We will be there to celebrate our first anniversary :love: the weekend of Sept 17-19, so if anyone wants to do a mini-meet let me know!! I am still trying to decide what our plans are for each day, so any suggestions would be appreciated!

I've never been during Food & Wine (and was starting to wonder if I ever would get to go!), but SURPRISE, we get to go the very first week of October. I simply can not picture the event in my mind.

Help me out, Lushes, please... What FREE (or almost free) events must we take advantage of? I've heard something about Australia & wine tasting, and free scotch somewhere?

Thanks, all, for your wisdom! :worship:

Disneyaholic - In addition to the Australian wine tasting there is also a free Sam Adams beer lesson (the history of beer, and you get some free beer) at the American pavilion. We didn't get a chance to do it last year, but this year - for sure!

Hi Lilly, WLL, Mister Disney, Aidensmom, Lynn, and Lglblonde! :sunny: Hope everyone is starting the weekend right! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Totally unrelated to Disney, but if any of you are ever in Juneau, AK you *must* go to the Alaskan Brewing Co. Brewery (http://www.alaskanbeer.com/). We just got back about a week ago from fishing in Alaska and on the way to the fishing lodge and on the way back we had a day in Juneau. The first day in Juneau we hit up the brewery. They give free beer tours and free tastings all day. Their tastings are not in wimpy little glasses either - I think the glasses were 4 ounces...and of course I had to try all 6 beers. Hehe! All of their beer is made right there in Juneau and it is yummy. My favorite was the Smoked Porter. Before they brew the beer the barley/malts are smoked (just like how you would smoke salmon or something like that)....it gives the beer the best flavor ever.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
As usual, Im soooooooooo jealous! I was tinkering with the idea of making it up there for the Sam Adams tasting/class. I looooove Sam Adams, and their seasonal beers are the best! I hope to get a super detailed report on this. :3dglasses
Ahhh - I will definitely report back. :) I agree with you about their seasonal beers. Their summer ale is my favorite! :sunny: Last year, we happened to be strolling by the American Pavilion right after the tasting/lesson started, so we got to see and hear some of it, but we were just a bit too late to participate. This year, we are going to find out the times in advance and make sure we are there.
Had to bump us up!!!
Please help.....Dh and I arrive late on Friday Sept 16 and leave early afternoon on Monday Sept 19. I have 2 day hoppers for each of us from our honeymoon. The only definite plan we have is our 1st Anniversary Dinner at California Grill on Sunday the 18th.
Here's the dilemma -We really want to do the Monorail (and more) drink and eat-athon. I can't decide whether to use our hoppers for just a few hours at the parks, when I know we will spend most of our day travelling around the world sampling the bars/restaurants.
Okay, the biggest problem is that I can't possibly imagine being at WDW and not go to any parks!!! Please please please...Has anyone done a trip to the World without actually going to a park??
Hi everyone! I finally made it through this looong thread, and I would like to join the LOTW. As a recent college grad, I have plenty of drinking experience! :drinking1 A couple weeks ago, I went out on a work night with some co-workers, and had such a rough morning the next day, that 2 of us spent some time in the "quiet room" at work recovering!
DH and I will be at WDW for our anniversary the same time as the LOTW meet, but we have a fireworks cruise scheduled for the 30th. I'm sure we'll have a couple drinks that night anyway! Last year's trip DH couldn't drink, so I know he plans to make up for it this year at the F&W fest!
On our last trip, (Boardwalk/Contemporary) we didn't do any parks. Just bar/lounge hopping, pool, going around different resorts...all that good stuff.
All of that occuipied all our time we didnt even have a chance to hit up Downtown Disney.
So yes, we've done Disney without hittin up the parks. :3dglasses Besides, it was too hot and crowded.
damgi- One of best trips by far was the one we spent solely at the resorts! We finally got to do the actual monorail drink-a-thon (many times over) as well as the boardwalk drink-a-thon which is tons of fun thanks to jellyrolls. We spent the 4 nights eating fabulous dinners, playing games and relaxing in our room, watching the fireworks from our balcony wiht champagne, playing air hockey in the arcade :teeth:, hitting up the pool and jacuzzi at wild hours, and doing some resort hopping. It was such a great trip! If you're going with kids I wouldn't suggest no parks, but if its just adults (adults who have already experienced the parks) definitely do a no park trip! There is so much to do just around the resorts. If you get bored then check out pleasure island or downtown disney. :goodvibes
Pollito916- I asked for a white chocolate martini at Citricos and surprise! they made me one. It was also clear and amazing! I enjoyed it more than the ones made with the godiva liquer. All the cream and heaviness weighs me down, but this one was just perfect :goodvibes
No - being proper lushes, 4:59 pm really means you'd better be there at 4:59 pm so we can get our behinds on a stool and a glass to the lips before 5:04!
Course, we'll still welcome late comers, but they're the ones missing out!!
maine_jen, add me to the maybe's, along with DH. My problem will be the fact that we're moving from SSR to RPR on the 29th and we'll be taking our DD8 to Universal for the 1st time on the 30th. So, we'll need to finish with the park, shower, dress, drop DD off at grandparents and drive to WDW by 5 pm.... I don't think I can make it...
We have very good friends who live in Miami Springs....we called today, knowing they are without power, to ask if they need anything. Ok, who has stayed at POR? Just wanna know what ya'll thought of it I was going to stay at POFQ for the last two days of my stay in Oct, but couldn't get a FL res rate. Gtr one for POR, though. I am thinking I will like Alligator Bayou section as opposed to The Mansions, simply because I prefer the rusticness of WL to the frou frou GF...whaddya think? Also, anyone know if the slide is good? My DD was excited about the slide at POFQ, but I cannot seem to get a good look at the POR slide on Deb's site. Anyone know anything about the River Roost Lounge at POR? Isn't that the one where some guy entertains?
Sorry for all the questions...just getting PUMPED UP for the trip!
WLL, last Sept we stayed for one night at POR Mansions due to a reservations snafu (we were supposed to stay at POFQ but due to hurricane Jeanne, they moved people over and, well, it was a mess). Although I was not happy about what happened (it was late at night and I was tired), I did go for a walk around the resort. And although I saw it only at night, I found it to be very beautiful. The pool slide looked really cool. I think you'll like it.
Aidensmom
09-02-2005, 08:28 PM
WLL - we have stayed at POR twice, once in the Mansions and once in Alligator Bayou. They are both really nice sections, but I think I like Alligator Bayou a little bit more just because of all the trees and foliage.
The slide is good, at least me and Aiden thought so.
We sent Aiden and MIL to bed one night and spent about 4 hours in the River Roost Lounge. There is a guy playing piano, and he takes requests, and is quite entertaining, we enjoyed it. It is a fairly small lounge however.
Thanks for the quick replies, my lush ladies!
Cristy-Good to know you could still appreciate POR even with your snafu. Thanks so much for the pictures....it does look beautiful. Your upcoming itinerary sounds PERFECT! Happy (early) Birthday! What a great way to spend your special day (and adding a few days on either side! Yeah!) You are like me...I kind of like to have an idea of what I am doing each day, or else I find my vacation gets away from me and nothing gets done. I just love "meeting" someone else who goes to WDW and really enjoys all the amenities. My friends all think I am crazy, and sometimes I doubt my sanity...but when I come to this board it makes me feel better...I know I am not alone!
Aidenamom-Well, I will let you know if Ava (my DD) likes the slide! Honestly, she has not met a slide she doesn't like, I just want it to be as good as the Keister Coaster at BW that she will be enjoying for 5 days! I like the idea of a small lounge, as long as it is not crowded. I believe I heard that kids are allowed in the lounge...do you know if this is true? We are having two child free nights during our 7 night stay...one to do PftS, and one night we are going to Blue Zoo and letting DD stay at Camp Dolphin. I don't want any more kid free nights other than that, so I am hoping she can go to RR lounge with us.
ENJOY (and Happy Birthday!)
09-03-2005, 01:10 PM
WLL & Disneyaholic, thanks for your birthday wishes. Thanks to DVC, I will be able to afford things I couldn't do before because I had to save for the resort... I just hope that no hurricane comes to crash my trip like last year.... Last year I spent my birthday in my POFQ room (22 hours) while Jeanne passed through... We still had a great time, but a lot of my plans were gone with the wind (pun intended)... but, being a South Floridian, I know it's a possibility and I deal with it....
I haven't decided what to do at Universal yet, mostly because there's really not that much to plan there... I'll probably wing it... the parks close early because of HHN, and I'm not taking my DD club-hopping, so other than having dinner at one of the City Walk restaurants or going to the movies, there's really not that much to do for us. We'll go to the parks during the day, try to go to the lush meet, and probably rest in the evenings.
MHF--I will be trying the Bellevue lounge, inside the Boardwalk Inn, for the first time on my next trip. Someone said they are known for their wide selection of single malt scotches. Can't say I know this for fact, though. It is not an exciting lounge, just simple and elegant. You could go to Epcot from there...I love the Rose and Crown but I don't know if you are asking specifically about scotches. My Dh likes a good scoth every now and then, but that night he was drinking Crown Royal! :cool1:
kocar-Good idea! Seeing Xmas decorations will be a GREAT EXCUSE to go from resort to resort. And while you are there...of course you MUST get a refreshing beverage!
Cristy-Have you eaten at Emeril's at Citywalk yet? I would like to try that place...I just never want to "cheat" on WDW and go elsewhere! Now that I am thinking of it...we NEVER go offsite for meals or drinks. We just may have to branch out a bit.
Hi Disneyholic! :wave2:
huey-heehee...gazundheit!!!
ctrabada
09-03-2005, 05:22 PM
WLL, I haven't eaten at Emeril's, but we ate at Emeril's Tchoup Choup a couple of years back for my birthday. It wasn't the best experience... To make a long story short, we were a group of 8 adults and I did not get to eat my dinner because my steak was cooked wrong (I asked for medium, they brought me well done), everyone had finished eating, and my steak was nowhere in sight.... and when I told them to forget it cuz I wasn't going to eat it 1/2 later, they were not pleased. We did not get even a free coffee for the inconvenience (oh, my sister who ordered exactly the same thing did not eat either due to the same problem). So, 2 steaks cooked wrong, on my 40th bday celebration, no replacement for a while, and no real effort to make up for it. I even emailed them when we got back and did not get even an acknowledgement. That was when I stopped watching Emeril (I was a huge fan), stopped buying his products, and will not go eat at his restaurants.
wildernesslodgelover
09-03-2005, 05:43 PM
Wow, that sux! What a disappointment...you would NEVER expect that from such an upscale place. I bet if Emeril knew, he would be PIZZED! It would be bad enough on a regular night...but on your 40th Bday? Sorry that happened! BTW...i refuse to eat a well done steak, too! Especially for the ridiculous price I am sure you paid for it!
You are like me. We used to go to Max's Grille regularly...the one here in Weston...do you know they give THREE FOR ONE drinks??? And I mean good drinks...I always got Ketel One dirty martinis. For $9.25 you got THREE drinks! But I digress...we were treated SO SHABBILY there the last time we went, and the food went very down hill...we REFUSE to go back. So I know what you mean. Too bad...I saw the Food Network special on the opening of Tchoup Choup and always thought I would want to try it.
UGH! As I'm sitting here catching up on the posts, my very expensive sick cat is licking her wounds. When I came home from an afternoon at my brothers house I find my cat limping pretty bad. Ended up having to take her to the Animal ER and spent $400 of my WDW drinking/eating money on a "couple of stitches". Yes, I giggled when she said that. All I could think of was Lilo & Stitches. Anyway the bill came to $350 plus had to pay for the gas up there and dinner for me & my dad while we waited for them to fix her up and a follow-up at her vet in 2 weeks. Thank goodness he went with me or I would've lost it. You brave people who have miniature humans to take care of, I salute you. My furrty baby is enough worry for me!
Guess I'm going to have to get an extra job or something to build up my drinking/eating reserves. Thank goodness my brother is having a party tomorrow, I need beer!!
Cheers!
Maine_Jennifer - Glad you kitty is going to be okay! I completely relate to losing it when it comes to the furry children. I couple of years ago our oldest cat, Sam, had a kidney infection and I had to take him to the emergency vet....I was a mess!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yay! 5 days until we are back at the mouse house. :) I had a Downtown Disney drink-a-thon all planned out, but it pretty much revolved around Raglan Road being open. Raglan Road is going to be open until later in September so I think we are going to do a monorail drink-a-thon instead. Here are the plans:

Park at Contemporary
Ride boat to Ft. Wilderness and visit Crockett's Tavern
Take boat back to Contemporary, visit Outer Rim Lounge
Take monorail to GF, visit Mizner's lounge
Take monorail to Poly, visit Tambu lounge
Take monorail back to Contemporary....

I know WL is left out, but we go to the Territory lounge almost every single time we visit WDW. We really wanted to go to Ft. Wilderness (DH has never been there before) so WL got moved off the list. :sunny:

Maine_Jennifer, I'm also glad to hear that your fur-baby is OK. My kitty broke his leg 5 years ago (the dog bit him) and it cost almost $900! I know how a "couple of stitches" can really add up.

I believe I heard that kids are allowed in the lounge...do you know if this is true? We are having two child free nights during our 7 night stay...one to do PftS, and one night we are going to Blue Zoo and letting DD stay at Camp Dolphin. I wouldn't call the River Roost a small lounge. In fact, I think it's pretty big. The piano guy that Aidensmom is talking about is "Yehaa Bob" Jackson and he is *great*. Here is his web site (TURN OFF YOUR SOUND FIRST!!) http://www.yehaabob.com/. You can see his schedule and some pictures. He is usually at Port Orleans on Wednesday-Saturday from 8:30 - Midnight. His show is very entertaining in a goofy sing-along audience participation way. Also, the River Roost accepts the DDE card :).

Yes, it is 100% child friendly. Bob does a lot of kid specific songs, like "Head Shoulders Knees and Toes" and the "Hokey Pokey". He encourages kids to come up and sing and dance (in fact, he pretty much demands it, LOL) on many songs. He put togther a conga line when we were there and most of the audience was dancing around the lounge. It's a lot of fun!

PS: I have a nice picture of a bunch of kids, but my FTP connection to my home page is broken so I can't post any new pictures now.

so my week is over and i'm back home :sad2: ...
had a great week, with the exception of those pesky thunderstorms ... got stuck on the indy speedway when the skies opened up on friday ... literally stuck, as one of the cars in front of me shut down and we had to wait for someone to run out and turn it back on ... we were soaked to the bone by the time we got off ...
didn't get as much drinking in as i would've liked, but then again, spending $ on drinks would've cut into my shopping funds :rotfl: ...
didn't make it to the monorail resorts (is there ever enough time to do things when you go to WDW??) ... did make it to the BW on our first night - had dinner and the beer sampler at the brewery (loved the burger, not so keen on the beers) - strolled the bw and killed time, tried to make it to jellyrolls, but we were too tired so we went back to the hotel ...
failed to drink much at epcot either cause i was too stuffed - even something as simple as a burger and fries is just way too filling, the portions are huge! - had a bass from the UK, white wine in italy (it was sweet and i LOVED it, but i neglected to get the name - any ideas what it could've been?) and a fiesta margarita from mexico as we watched illuminations ...
we had fun at PI - 8trax was waaaaaay too crowded (and the crowd seemed a little too old for us :goodvibes) -- went to motion and danced a bit - it was fun, young crowd, top 40 music -- stopped in BET soundstage - empty -- stopped in the beach club - handful of ppl there, seemed like most of them were drunk, lol -- and my sister and my friend loved mannequins - lots of boys who weren't into us :rotfl: but we danced a bit and it's good i wasn't drunk cause you have to be careful getting off that moving dance floor, lol ...
as for jennifer's request - raglan road looks far from done ... it's got the frame up and some of it was covered in insulation, but it looked like there was still a lot of work to be done ... i don't know how often they work on it, but it looked the same to me all week ...
i still have some unpacking to do ... it's almost like if i delay it, my vacation's not over yet ;) ...

The bartender right now is Tim. Kind of a stiff, really. Has an "I'd rather be somewhere else" thing going. Not his fault, very few customers. WDW is a ghost town today. We stayed at mk until 1:00, everything was a walk on.

Jamie-Sounds like a great trip. I always have grand plans and I never have time to do everything. I cannot drink alcohol when I am full. It just doesn't appeal to me. I need to get to PI...won't be this Oct trip, though. I have NOT been to PI...weird, huh? That is so funny about getting stuck on the indy speedway in the rain! Guess it wasn't funny at the time, though! Thanks for the trip report. Nope, don't unpack, just open up a beer and stay on the DISboards and it will be like you are still at WDW! LOL! :teeth:

So much for a designated driver. I hope no one gets drunk enough to try to drive the monorail themselves. :rotfl2: :

jamienyc, welcome back! I know what you mean, I never get to do all I want to do when I go.... as it is, I'm thinking of slightly revising my itinerary to see if I can fit a few more things in.... but then, I don't like to plan every minute because we also like to improvise... I'm sorry to hear about your mishap at the Indy experience... I've been thinking about getting that for my DH on his birthday but I've had some misgivings because he's not that good at driving stick... I hope you had fun anyway.

gcurling, that's too bad they had no Amber Bock and the bartender wasn't in the "mood", but you're there and that counts for a lot! And at my new favorite resort, too (sorry WLL, but Poly trumped WL on our last trip, thoug I still love WL).

Veterans of the monorail drink-a-thon, I need your help! This Saturday, DH and I will embark on our first official monorail drink-a-thon. Sure, we've drank around the world (showcase), we've drank at Jellyrolls, we've drank here, we've drank there....but never an officla monorail-drink-a-thon.

We are planning to visit: Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and the Poly.

So, where should we leave our vehicle? I was thinking of leaving it at WL. We could start there, then take a boat to the Contemporary, then monorail around, end up back at the contemporary, then take the boat back to WL. Does a boat run from WL and the Contemporary? Does our plan make the most logistical sense, or is there a better way we should do it?

Thanks!!! :sunny:

wildernesslodgelover
09-07-2005, 07:32 PM
hello my dear MegMeg!!! :wave2:

The only thing you may need to consider is that the boat from the Contemporary to WL stops running at a certain time...I *think* it is 10 pm but now I cannot remember. So...if you are going to do your drinkathon eary it should not be a problem. Just keep in mind that the CR boat DOES stop running at a certain time...I am just not sure what that time is. Other than that, your plan sounds DIVINE!!!! :cool1:

Can't wait to hear a complete trip report! Take lots of pics...especially of POR and you with a dirty martini!!!!! :teeth:

Nerdy Minnie - You and Ahhh are coming up this weekend?! Seriously?! Definitely keep me posted. :sunny: Maybe we could meet up at Jellyrolls! We are leaving Friday around noon-ish, so report back before then! :) Can you give a re-cap of the Boardwalk drink-a-thon (i.e. the places you visited)....that sounds fun too!

WLL - hey dearie! Thanks for the scoop on the boat! As far as I know we are planning on going early-ish, so we should be okay. If it turns out to be later though maybe we'll park at the contemporary and do all of the boating right away. That is, park at CR, boat to WL, boat back to CR, and then get on the monorail. I will be sure and take lots of pictures....both of POR and of me with a dirty martini. Heehee! :)

Nerdy Minnie-I am so jealous! I can't stand it! Hey...do you think there is ANY chance you two could come to WDW the dates we will be there in Oct? Oct 9-16th. I bet you two would LOVE PftS...we will be there Oct 15 (Sat.) We are planning a "grown ups only night" on either Sun or Mon night of our stay...gonna hit Blue Zoo for cocktails and dinner! Join us!

MegMeg-Yes, it might be best to park at CR...just in case. I am an early night partier myself. I truly am a "happy hour" kinda gal. My DH and I like to be in bed by 10 pm or so...does that make us old fogies? :confused3 Oh well...as long as he and I are on the same wavelength, that is all that matters! :love:

WLL, what's PftS?

Our costumes for MNSSHP (we're going Oct 30) arrived! DH is going to be Capt Jack Sparrow, I'm going to be a pirate wench and DD8 will be a punk pirate. We had a little "dress rehearsal" and we're so excited! DH has agreed to wear makeup (just black eyeliner). This is the first time I put on a costume in years! Here's a pix of us last year:

Cristy-Great Pic! We are doing MNSSHP on Oct 13th. DD insisted on being "Kim Possible" and we already got her costume at the Disney Store. Now we just have to jazz it up a bit. I am still deciding on what her dad and I can be. I have never been "into" Halloween. This is the first year I actually care about finding a costume! Oh, and PftS=Party for the Senses. $100 per person and unlimited wine from different wineries, and unlimited "sample portions" of foods from chefs. Entertainment by some Cirque Du Soleil Perfomers. It is a F&W Fest event at Epcot! I am so excited!!!!

Meg-Yeah...good to know I am not getting old just yet...if you young 'uns hit the hay early, too!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ok, plans have changed a bit. We're going this Sunday (11th) til Monday. So unfortunately we wont be able to meetup on Saturday night. :(

However, we will be partying it up around the World all day on Sunday and ending up at Jellyrolls in the evening. So (1MegMeg) if you want to meetup then, that'll be great!

We're staying at the Boardwalk Villas again, you guys have no idea how excited Meli and I are! :3dglasses

Cristy - I can't take it any more!! Please don't be offended, but I HAVE to ask! Is your DH just happy to be with his family or a proud Star Trek geek? I'd be a proud Star Trek geek this Halloween, but you'll NEVER catch me in one of those spandex body suits even if they make them large enough!!

maine_jennifer, I almost fell off my chair laughing at your question! Actually, his costume was just a pair of black slacks plus the Star Trek shirt, so it was a comfortable and easy costume. He actually looked very distinguished (and to answer your question, he was both happy to be with his family and a proud Star Trek fan!).

WLL & Meg, you can add me to the list of early birds. Since I have to get up around 5:30 am every morning, I am usually in bed by 9:30 pm. So, I'm already "conditioned" to go to bed early, even on vacation (though I try to go to bed a little later, like at 10:00!) :earboy2: My DH, on the other hand, is the opposite... makes it for interesting vacations.... I go to bed early and get up early.... poor DH has no choice.... but he has learned to follow my lead and go to bed early when we go to WDW cuz he knows I'll wake him up bright and early whether he wants to or not!

And count me in on the early to bed, early to rise group. I absolutely HATE it though!!!! :crazy2: But since I have to leave my house at 7:30am, 5 days a week, there is no other choice. The things I do for health insurance and Disney vacation money!

Wheee, what a great weekend! POR is wonderful (I think I love it even more than POFQ), the crowds were low, and we had an awesome time!

Checked in around 3pm on Friday in the mansion (Oak Manor) section of POR, our room looked out into the couryard and river - couldn't have asked for a better view. It rained so we hung out in the room for a bit and then rented a paddleboat down at the marina.

DH on the paddleboat.

In the evening we headed over to the BW for dinner at Big River Brewery and an evening at Jellyrolls. Before dinner we played the hit-the-lobster-in-the-pot game (we play it everytime we go there) and this time we got 3 lobsters in so we won the large prize. Whoohoo! We picked the big dolphin.

Saturday we went to Epcot for a few hours and rode Soarin', The Land boat ride, Mission Space, Universe of Energy, and Test Track all in about 2 hours. No crowds! It was great! We had a late lunch at the Yorkshire Co. Fish and chips place at England before we left.

Saturday evening was our monorail drinkathon. We went to WL, CR, Poly, and GF. Whew!

On the boat from CR(where we parked) to WL. The weather was great!

Did they put the blue cheese stuffed olives in? So tell me...what drink did you have at each stop? What was that you were drinking at Mizner's? Did you eat along the way?

I am so happy to hear you loved POR. I can't wait to see it for myself.

Meg Meg - The photos are GREAT!! I do agree that photos tell the story oh, so well. I, too, want to know what you drank at each stop.

We only have 19 days until we leave for a week at the World. Since we are taking the 80-year-old inlaws, we won't get to do the Monorail drinkathon. :sad2: We will, however, definitely make a visit to Jellyrolls and the Comedy Warehouse. Plus, we should get enough to drink at the Food & Wine Festival!!

WLL - Heck yeah they were blue cheese stuffed olives! Yum! :) lol! Yeah, we get carded alllllll the time! Most of the time bartenders/wait staff are really cool, but every once in a while one of them will give us a menacing stare, like we are trying to drink underage or something....we just happily show them our ID. Hehe! Oh, yes we did eat along the way....just some appetizers at TL and Outer Rim. :)

Disneyaholic - You will love Jellyrolls! It's sooo much fun!

Okay, here's what we drank where....

Territory Lounge - Me: Dirty Martini; DH: Pepper Pine Cone (AKA bloody mary)
Outer Rim Lounge - Me: Domaine St. Michelle Sparkling Wine; DH: Space Monkey ( I think that's the name....it's a alcoholic ice cream drink)
Tambu Lounge - we shared a Malibu Mackaw - Yum!
Mizner's - Me: French Martini (had chambord, vodka, and pineapple juice...I think); DH: Coco-tini

hi Disneyholic!

Meg-I figured you would get carded often. You look so young and innocent. HA! We on this thread know the TRUTH! LOL!

Gosh, I thiink I would get sick if I drank that mixture of drinks. That last martini you had looked yummy! What time did you start your drinkathon, and what time did it end? Did you eat anything afterwards?

1MegMeg
09-12-2005, 12:59 PM
Jen - Unfortunately, yes the Space Monkey is fairly banana-y and chunky. I had a taste and could definitely taste the banana. I didn't have any chunk issues in my taste, but a couple of times DH commented on a chunk getting stuck in his straw.

WLL - Our drinkathon was around 4 hours long, which is probably why I didn't get sick. lol! We spent a wile at TL and when we got on the boat to go back to WL it was going to Ft. Wilderness first, so we had extra time there; then at the Poly we walked around outside for a while and once we saw the sign for the walkway to GF we decided just to hoof it over rather than get back on the monorail. Extra time allows for the alcohol to adequately digest. Hehe! Also, we (purposely) ate a late lunch at England in Epcot so we weren't super hungry for dinner. We had appetizers at TL and OR and that was more than enough for us to eat. By the time we got to CR and rode the boat to WL it was around 7pm and we were back in our room a little after 11pm. Innocent? Ha!! Yes, you all definitely know the truth! :sunny:

All our points are used up and I didn't want to borrow, so we decided to pay. We stayed there last Christmas and loved it so decided to stay there again this year.

Hello, my fellow lushes...

My DH asked me tonight about what we were going to do this Xmas and I replied that I had not planned anything yet (other than going to visit my parents in Orlando, but no Disney)... so he says "why don't we go to WDW?" Well, you know I ran to the computer to find out what codes were available and called reservations and booked 5 nights (12/25-12/30) at WL courtyard view!!!! I can't believe it.... I'm in a daze....

I, also, am very envious!! I LOVE Disney World at Christmastime. It truly is my favorite time of the year there. Our goal had been to get our credit cards to this year, prior to Christmas, and celebrate with a trip to the World at Christmastime (thus removing our zero balances! :rotfl: ) Alas, we are not quite there - in fact still a bit off. Our trip to F & W didn't help! I will dream about Christmas at Disney next year... :cloud9:

ctrabada - Have just an amazing time!

Cristy!!! I've been miserable all morning with a cold, then I had a cup of tea to help with congestion and it took away my voice!!! But thanks to your news, I'm excited about WDW again! My WHOLE family wants to do a Christmas vacation in 2006 and the cheapest we've come up with so far is WDW!!!

LOTW Meet in Two weeks, 6 hours, 5 minutes!!

Great prayer Bill!!! Hey, I've got awesome news - On the spur of the moment, we've decided to do a quick trip in January during the Marathon weekend. Can't do the Lush thing until after our race is over, but then I'll be sipping a few Stella Artois' at R&C!

Thanks, everyone... I love WDW in Xmas but we had never stayed onsite during the holidays (when we went, we stayed at my parents) and last year decided to go for 3 nights and had a great time. We really don't go for the rides because it's too crowded, but we like walking around and visit the other resorts just to see the decorations. WL is definitely my favorite for that time of the year. Right after we checked in last year (12/25) we came downstairs, bought some hot chocolate at Roaring Forks, and sat down on the rocking chairs in the lobby just soaking it all in... it was wonderful (plus it was too cold and rainy to do anything else ;)).

Apparently, my DH enjoyed it a lot too because he told me to book 4 nights this year and, just as I was about to give my credit card info, he told me to book 5 nights!!!! You don't have to tell me twice! :rotfl2: He even wants to go to the Candlelight Processional, and he's not religious at all!

OK, I've been thinking about my upcoming Christmas trip and decided to change my ressie... Don't worry, WLL, I'm still staying at WL, but decided to change it from courtyard view to a studio in the villas. It was only $29 more per night and I'll get a kitchenette... I figure the extra cost will pay for itself by saving in breakfast alone! Add a quick dinner and/or lunch (salad, sandwiches, microwaveable food), and we can save a lot more...

SO . . . I just updated the "fun 'adult' meet" thread on the Adults & Solo traveler's forum. We've got 19 definites!!! WOW. So, I asked there and I'll ask here - not sure if ya'll think it'd be too geeky - should I bring name tags???

Cheers!

Hmmmmm, Maine_Jen... that's quite a dilemma.... I personally hate wearing name tags... I'm geeky enough as it is to then add a "Hello, my name is" :rotfl:

Same here!! I guess it's just the obsessive planner in me. I've just come from working at a wedding, so maybe it'll wear off. I'd make nice Disney name tags, but I'd would be the LAST one to put it on!!! :earboy2:

Name tags = geeky. Really geeky. I hate name tags.

On the other hand, stating both your name and your screenname to everybody who wanders in = pain in the posterior.

Not sure which way I come down on this one yet. Maybe I'll just print out a copy of the towel animal thing on sticky paper and wear that.

Heck, maybe everybody ought to wear their avatar.

I don't care much for nametags, but I have to admit they would be helpful with this many people, especially after we've had a few drinks.

Well, I finally gave in and went to see a Dr this morning. I have a sinus infection and bronchitis. Antibiotics for 9 days should have me cleared up *just* in time for the meet on the 30th! I sure hope so because I STILL don't feel like packing!! Anyone want to drive to Maine and do my laundry and pack for me???

I'm glad you went to the Dr., Jen, cuz it could have gotten worse and that would've ruined your vacation! My DH was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago and I made him go too... he also had bronchitis plus an eye infection. He finished taking all his medicines and is now healthy and ready to go in 2 days!
