Make two loops. On the first, stop at the indoor bars (Outer Rim, Tambu, Mizners) then on the second loop hit the pool bars. You could make an afternoon out of it on a nice day.

Hi everyone! I'm at my in-laws between our two Disney sessions. We stayed 6 wonderful days at AKL and did the monorail tour on 12/18. We missed FINFAN since she came in pretty late pn 12/18 and were not able to hook up :(. I'm hoping that we can meet when we return to WDW on Monday.

We started our monorail tour at the CR and Outer Rim and hit the Polynesian right before Wishes. The Tambu Lounge was out of pineapples!!! so I only had a lapu and not a lapu-lapu. The good news was our drinks were discounted because of the lack of fruit. We watched Wishes from the beach and then ended up at Narcoossee's for drinks with flashing ice cubes. I have pictures, but I need to crop them and lower the resolution so they load quickly and I can't do that until I get home.

I hope that everyone is having a LUSH Holiday :).

This is my new favorite thread! People I can relate to!;) We're staying at BWV in Dec; but would really like to try the monorail loop for drinks on our kid free night. Our problem is getting ourselves back to our resort! BTW, you'll know us if you see us. We'll be the group of 12 drunks!
Sorry to sound judgemental, but I hope you don't let your kids see you wasted. :earseek:

dmonroe did say it was a "kid free night". Even if the kids see their parents a little tipsy from having an adult and kid-free good time it isn't the worst thing in the world! :earseek:

Robin-Sounds like a great time! How did you like the AKL? We absolutely loved it! I could spend my whole trip there and avoid the parks all together!

Lindsay-I am surprised that someone new to these boards would feel the need to hop on an established thread and be insulting. Sorry to sound judgemental....

DVCmember-Somehow I missed your post about the Primetime. I will have to check that out. I really want to check out Saratoga Springs Resort...haven't heard too much about that one...not as much fanfare with it's opening like other resorts. To me, the theming seems boring...but I know that might just be in my head...so I gotta see for myself!--Oh, and my little "story" about getting free drinks at WDW takes place at my beloved Territory Lounge. I was drinking sour apple martinis (I don't drink those anymore, too sweet) and we were having such a great conversation with the bartender. After I was done with my drink, I casually asked if there was any left in the shaker. (I always hate to watch bartenders overpour a drink in the martini shaker and dump out the excess.) The bartender gave me a sly smile and said, "Uh, yeah, sure...I have some left here" and proceeded to mix me a new, complimentary drink.

That sounds like my favorite bartender...One night I was there enjoying a glass of Pinot Gris and chatting with him about different wines and when my glass was just about empty, he poured me a new (full) glass of Chardonnay and said "Here, you've got to try this"...Now that is what I call Disney at it's finest...LOL

Without getting too personal...what kind of work do you do that allows you to stay at the WL on a regular basis? I assume they set you up at that particular hotel? That is a perk I could definitely get used to!!!!

LOL...yes, I had a change of heart about posting his name...you never know who may be lurking about on the Disboards... :bitelip: We've actually become buddies and he has given me some great restaurant recommendations in Orlando (outside of Disney). I've been to a few of them with clients.

I'm in sales and have many accounts in Orlando and one of my big accounts is Disney. I live in South Florida and so I drive up and spend a night or two in Orlando every 4-6 weeks (give or take) so I stay at WL...It makes dealing with Disney a breeze and while it is a little inconvenient to get from Disney Property to some of my other accounts, it is worth it to stay in such a great hotel...Orlando hotels can really be hit or miss and as long it's not that much more expensive (and sometimes even less expensive with AP/Florida Res rates) to stay there then I will...It's a beautiful thing  Plus, as a single woman travelling alone, it is serious peace of mind knowing where I am staying is a safe place...

I'll be there again in a few weeks for the marathon (with friends) and then I have a few meetings set up while I'm up there so I don't have to drive back and forth...when will you be there next?

Well, that is a great perk. And you are so right about being safe!

I will be there at the end of this month (Jan26th-29th) and then I think DH and I will go just the two of us in May to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary.

As you can see...I am in Weston...just west of you!

Well, I really regret not jumping on it back then...no WAY we can afford a lot now! My parents live in West Boca...west of 441, in between Glades and Palmetto Park Road. I know the area well! hello neighbor!

The answer to your first question is in a PM...lol

Yes, I have stayed at AKL once...ate breakfast at Boma...enjoyed it very much and went to a cooking class with my mom at Jiko's during the Food and Wine Festival...it was WONDERFUL!!!! A great class...To stay on topic, they had a wonderful wine paring with each course :drinking1

For all those who will be at WDW next week, I thought that it would be great to set up a time and place to meet. Since many of us have already planned the week out (even with the new EMH schedule change!), setting up a set time and place everyday would enable many people to get together. So, how does 3:00 every day at the R&C sound? I will be there on Tuesday with others to hoist a drink and "Toast our Troops" in respect of their courage and bravery.

Also, feel free to set up another time and place if you like. I don't mean to clutter everyone's schedule, but the more options available gives us all a better chance of getting together.

Hope to see you all next week!

Jim

p.s. I'll be easy to spot. I broke my toe last week, so I'll be the one limping!!!

I am in The World right now - hooray!! - and am planning to participate in the Monorail Drink-a-Thon on January 3rd. How does this "plan" sound?
1. Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge - 4:00 PM
2. Tambu Lounge at Polynesian - 5:45 PM
3. Mizner's Lounge at Grand Floridian - 7:30 PM
4. California Grill Lounge at Contemporary - 9:00 PM (for fireworks)

What do the experts out there think?? :-)

We stopped at three of the four lounges in early December. We found thought that the Territory Lounge had the best appetizers; the Tambu Lounge was really quite cozy and friendly; and Mizner's was quite crowded and difficult to find a table. If we were to do it again, we would start with the Tambu Lounge, then Mizner's, and end the evening at the Territory Lounge. Your only roadblock may be Mizner's at 7:30 P.M. :D

Ok, I got back from my Christmas at WL trip on Wednesday but have been totally out of commission with a bad case of the flu. Today is the first day I've been out of bed for any length of time.

My DH and I actually did the monorail drink-a-thon on our last night. Dropped DD7 at Cub's Den around 6 pm and took the boat to the CR. We had every intention of having a drink at the Outer Rim but felt really uncomfortable with all the kids lounging around waiting for Chef Mickey's. I'm not comfortable drinking alcohol around children (except maybe one beer or glass or wine) and I was in the mood for more of an adult atmosphere. So, in a whim, we decided to go to the Cali Grill desk and ask if they had anything open without a PS. They said they were booked but that we could go to the bar. We jumped at the opportunity and went upstairs. I was totally blown away by the view! We sat at the bar and had a great time with our bartender. We shared an incredible meal and drank the most wonderful wine (recommended by our bartender) who kept refilling our glasses at no charge.... wonderful man...

Then got on the monorail and went to the Tambu lounge. It was crowded but we found a couple of seats and had the lapu lapu. Didn't stay there long and got back on the monorail to GF and Mizner's lounge. We had some more wine (Mondavi this time for me... I forgot what DH had) and met some wonderful people. The atmosphere was great; the bartender was awesome and we had a wonderful time.

Our intention was to finish the night at Territory Lounge, but we got back around 11:30 pm and our generous bartenders had given us quite a fill so we were in no condition to continue drinking, so we picked up the little one and went to bed.

Next morning, ugh, not feeling good.... you see, we spent 2 nights at my mom's and she had a bad case of the flu, so between the very cold days at WDW (Christmas day was COLD and rainy) and the last night drinking, I guess my defenses went down and wham! I was sick, sick, sick.... We checked out on Tuesday but I was feeling so bad that we stayed one night at my mom's and came back home Wednesday... I've been in bed ever since, except for the doctor's visit on Thursday.

Overall, my best experience in the drink-a-thon was at the Cali Grill. I had heard many great things, but I still wasn't prepared for the view, the food and the service. Definitely a place we'd like to return to.... Mizner's Lounge was great too, very intimate and cozy.

Happy new year to all the lushes...and welcome back Cristy!

Sounds like a fabulous time! Did your DD7 have fun at the Cub's Den? I love the CG but have not been back there since our first family trip to WDW in 2000 (I think.) Funny, we loved our waiter and he kept refilling our glasses of wine at no charge. I think even the waiters pour out of the bottle there...as opposed to having to go to the bar and get drink orders filled. No liquor...just wine...I think...I am certainly not a CG expert. But now you have me thinking about a seat at the bar at CG one night! Sounds great!

I haven't been to the Tambu yet...maybe will try it this next trip. And I love Mizner's too!

I am so sorry you have been sick! It seems like everyone has been dealing with an illness the past few months! I myself had bronchitis, and now I have a terrible sore throat that will not go away. i was on anitbiotics but they did not help so I have a referral to go to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. I want to be 100% for my WL trip at the end of this month!

Well, feel better soon! thanks for your "lush report!"

We drank around the ENTIRE World!! We arrived home at 5:00 AM today - what a bummer to go back to work!!

Here are some of the highlights:

Non-drinking: Segway Tour!!! It is awesome!! We will definitely do it again!

We spent a little of every night we were at MGM at Dad's Lounge at the Prime Time Diner. We love that bar, and enjoy the bartenders. We decided to collect a set of twelve light-up icecubes, so we had some drinking to do (especially since we actually had to drink 13, since hubby gave one of our cubes to an adorable little boy who couldn't afford one - cube, not drink!)
On two separate nights we got a drink to go, and walked through the Osborne lights, glowing!

We did the Epcot Drink Around the World Showcase on one afternoon, sharing a beer in each country.

We had a GREAT time at the Dawa bar in Animal Kingdom. We showed up at 3:00, and staked a place at the bar. We drank through the first time the parade passed, and then took a breather for pictures when the parade returned. We met some really fun girls, and so ended up staying until park closing!

Our Monorail Drink-a-Thon was great! We started at the Territory Lounge at 4:30. Although we enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks, the nachos were awful - that 7-11 cheese sauce, instead of real cheese. It was disappointing, because we asked about the cheese prior to ordering.

Next, we hit the Tambu lounge at the Polynesian. We had delicious drinks and egg rolls. Yummy!

Mizner's was a BLAST! We met so many people at the bar. We really had fun. However, no appetizers as Citricos is dark on Monday.

We ended at California Grill. We arrived just in time for the fireworks. The view wasn't great from the bar, as people stood in front of us. The place is so busy, the bartender isn't as fun, either. I LOVED my steak flatbread - this was my favorite appetizer of the night. We ended up leaving the bar at 10:30 and BARELY caught our bus back to the hotel (Magic Kingdom closed at 9:00, so we were lucky to find a bus!)

What a GREAT trip - I am so sad to have no other Disney trip planned!

BTW...why don't you start planning another trip now? Even if it has to be a year away...just do it! One of my new year's resolutions is to ALWAYS have a WDW trip planned!

robinb-I saw on another thread you got the DDE card! Good for you! you are gonna have so much fun using that! I have it in a prominent place in my wallet and it makes me smile every time I open my wallet and see it!

No DDE card yet. I'm waiting for the next trip. I wish I had it last month ... we would have saved a boatload! My DH says ... only one trip to V&A pays for it. Gotta love that man. Except ... all my pictures are on his laptop somewhere in downstart illinois. I'm hoping to move them tomorrow so I can write up my DATW trip report.

DisneyaHolic23: We also did the Segway Tour. Ours was on 12/30 and it was a blast! I want one now ;). Did you notice that your feet and legs hurt after the tour? That was the only thing I didn't expect since you are essentially standing in one place the whole time. I put my pin on my vest and had a number of CMs come up and talk to me. We did take it easy on the drinks the night before since we figured we needed our balance! :moped:

Hey, by any small chance...do you know the room numbers that are in the "bear face" section of the WL? I want to request a courtyard room with the view looking STRAIGHT OUT to the lake...you know what I mean, right? I may have to post that question on the WL thread...so no worries if you do not know the answer!

Have fun and have a drink for me! DH and I are not going out to dinner OR drinking any alcohol til we get to the WL! That makes us look forward to the trip even more!

Yes, I am doing the marathon...thanks for the luck...they will have beer at mile 22 or 23...hello carbs!!! LOL :cheer2: :drinking:

LOL! I don't THINK so! I have a feeling you can really rack up a bill at TL! LOL!

So do you mean that your room's ENTRANCE door faces the lobby? So then what does your balcony face? Just curious... I have never had one of those rooms...I am wondering if they are standard view (and what exactly IS a standard view there?) or woods view or what!

Hey, hey, hey now...just cause I spend a lot of time at the bar doesn't mean I'm drinking...LOL... I'm petite and I don't want to be falling off any barstools!!! :earseek:

I usually nurse a glass (maybe two - depending on time) of wine before dinner and then a Bailey's or two (maybe some Port or Ice Wine) after dinner...by that second Bailey's though I am usually pretty happy...LOL...depends on the mood...

As far as the rooms go...Yes...the entrance door faces the lobby...on one side (and I'm sorry I don't remember room numbers), the balcony overlooks the different gables on the roof and in the distance I could sort of see the guardhouse and the "driveway"...on the other side, I had what I would call a woods view with the MK in the background, I didn't have a clear view of the castle but I could see Space Mountain...if I looked down, it was a maintenance kind of loading-dockish area...honestly though...the view is never my priority (although quite nice when I get a good one)....

Just to clarify...I don't do this every night...I couldn't handle that!!! This is my TL routine...

And Pixie...Since you are a fan of Ice Wine...perhaps you should graduate from white Zin ( lol - did I mention I was a wine snob?) and move on to a nice Pinot Grigio?

:moped:

You have echoed a couple of things I felt throughout the tour: I DEFINITELY want a Segway. I can't think of any practical purposes, but I want one!!

We both noticed our legs got tired. Prior to the tour, we had thought it would be a great gift for Ron's dad, as he has circulation problems. Now that I've done the tour, I know he couldn't stand like that.

We also planned ahead, and did very little drinking the night before the tour. I just wanted to feel top-notch.

What time was your tour on the 30th? We did the 9:30 tour on the 2nd, and noticed that the 8:30 group finished up about 5 minuttes early. Our tour went 10 minutes over. I was wondering if that was true in general, or just on our day.

WILDERNESSLODGELOVER: I LOVE your idea of starting to plan my next trip. I certainly never stop reading the boards for ideas, so I can start compiling my next trip... :wizard:

robinb, What is a DDE card?

WLLover, planning my next trip is always a must when I get back from WDW... I already have my birthday trip planned, but I did that in November, so now that I'm back I'm thinking of my next trip... I'm not sure when yet, but I gotta make up my mind soon... btw, I cancelled my membership at LA Fitness and have been going to Curves since early Dec... I love it!

pd23, for most of my youth, I hated, and I mean hated, wine; I decided to learn to like it, so I first started with wine coolers, then white zin, and then graduated to real wine. Now I'm proud to say that I like and appreciate a fine wine. It took years, but I did it! I still don't like white wine though... maybe cuz my dad only drinks chardonnay and that's way too dry for me... I had a pinot grigio once and liked it so maybe I just need to try other varieties. My preference is a cabernet or merlot. My DH loves ice wine and port but they're too sweet for me.

Cristy,

The DDE card = Disney Dining Experience. It costs $50 and gives you 20% off most restaurants and bars in WDW. It used to be available only to FL residents, but now AP holders can get it too: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=708258. Best of all, it's 20% of your whole bill. Including alcohol! That means a Lapu-Lapu only costs $8 ;). One evening at V&A and the card is paid for.

Cristy-RUn, do not walk, to the nearest phone and order your DDE card! I almost hate to tell you about it, cuz when I finally found out about it I was LIVID that no one told me about it before! It is good for parties up to 10 people, plus gets you free valet if you are dining at a resort. Plus half off entrance to Pleasure Island. There are a few other perks that are escaping me right now. BTW...Curves is great! L.A. has been busy lately with all the resolution folks...bummer for me!

Thanks for the info on those rooms, Aisle. For some reason, the view is very important to us. Yet another reason we like to go during Value season.

Yes Disneyholic...it makes these boards more fun to come to when you know you have a trip looming on the horizon!

LadyArcher- Welcome! Any information you need on alcohol in the world you can just ask the lovely people on this board, together we know it all!

Cristy- I'm not a big red wine fan. I dont like to drink anything unless its cold, so that is a HUGE problem for me! I've found that I do enjoy reisling and ice wine, b/c I do not like dry wines, but love sweet ones. The whole sweetness thing is why I love white zin. Honestly when I go to bars I see a lot of younger people drinking it. Maybe one day I"ll grow out of it, but hopefully not before I'm 23!

pd23, to each her own... you like what you like and that's allright... hey, that rhymes! look at me, everybody loves a martini... that is, everyone but me... I just can't get into them... and beer is my drink of choice, but most people think that's so not classy... hence my learning to drink wine... I still love beer though...

One little caveat--If you ask a cast member if they know about the Drinking Around the World game--as my friend and I did back in 1999--they will look at you as if you are nuts! Which, by the time we got to China (or was it Japan?) we were so plastered we thought we were nuts too!! The millenium parade began and we just sat down and let it pass...

Any ideas for an Epcot RESORT drink-a-thon? Lots of folks have done the World Showcase, but how about Yacht & Beach Clubs, Boardwalk, Swan, and Dolphin? Does each resort have nice lounges for a leisurely beverage?

Doug

Oh, what a great idea--yeah, you could totally drink around the boardwalk...There is a seperate lounge in each the Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, and Beach resorts, plus there are several restaurants/bars on the boardwalk...hhmmmm, very interesting...

where do they have fiesta margaritas? Mexico? Or somewhere on the monorail tract? Since this seems to be the page of lushes, what is everyone's favorite drink at WDW at where can you get it?

My favorite drink at WDW is the fiesta margaritas in Mexico or the Heffeweisen (sp?) at Big River (light beer with lemon)..

Not a WDW drink topic, but last month I went to DL. We thought there were plenty of places to drink in CA but we couldn't find any. So we passed the winery there and noticed they had tastings.

So my brother and I did a port wine tasting. It was very interesting and was paired with three different kinds of blue cheese. It was a very nice break from the Christmas crowds. Definitely should be a must do for any lushes who go to DL.

Cast:
Robin -- Me ;)
David -- My Husband
John -- College Friend, Fellow Disney and Science Fiction Fan & DVC Member
Michelle -- John's Wife, Fellow Disney and Science Fiction Fan & DVC Member
Barb -- Friend and Disney Newbie!

We scheduled our Monorail Drink-A-Thon early in the trip while our friend Barb was visiting and the crowds were low. Our girls, all of whom have been to WDW many times and know the place like the back of their hands, went into the MK for an evening of fun while the adults rode the rail.

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/OuterRim1.jpg

We started off at the Contemporary around 8:30 PM and went to the Outer Rim.

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/OuterRim2.jpg
Robin, Barb, Michelle, John, David

All of us, except for David ;), started out the evening light knowing that we had a long night ahead of us. Barb and I had wine, Michelle a coffee drink, John a Sam Adams and David a strong silly tropical drink. Our bartender was very nice and took our picture. She told us we were not the first to drink around the monorail ... I'm sure some of our other lushes had been there before us :drinking1.

We hopped the monorail for the Polynesian and the Tambu Lounge.

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/Tambu1.jpg

I love the Tambu Lounge, but it was really busy when we arrived. Our bartender was brusque and we were disappointed that they were out of pineapples for Lapu-Lapus. We had the drink without the pineapple and were charged about $3 less. I'd rather have the pineapple. We all had Lapus and they were very good!

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/Tambu2.jpg

We had to beg a waitress to take our picture. The first "cousin" we asked said yes, but had someone else so it. So much for 'ohana. The cousin who took our picture was from Wisconsin ... no wonder she was nice! We took our drinks in our to-go cups and headed for the beach. We got there just in time to watch Wishes from over the lagoon.

More on the next post due to image limitations!

Those Lapu-Lapus (or just a Lapu in our case) packs quite a punch. We were feeling no pain as we traveled the "highway in the sky" over to the Grand Floridian. We admired the ginger bread house and peeked into Mitzners. Dead and boring. We followed our original plan and waked to Narcoossee's.

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/Narcoossees1.jpg

Narcoossee's was also slow, but I enjoy the atmosphere and the bartender welcomed us warmly. The bar is small, with only about 8 seats. If we started at Narcoossee's I think we would have enjoyed our drinks on the wraparound porch. But ... it was chilly and we were happy to park our butts :teeth:.

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/Narcoossees2.jpg

I had some silly tropical drink, David had cognac (he should have gone to Mitzners!) John had a frozen milkshake-type drink, Michelle had a chocolate martini and Barb had a silly tropical drink with a glowing ice cube. Gee ... my memory fails me here. I wonder why.

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW/Narcoossees3.jpg

We tried to find glowing ice cubes for the rest of our trip and struck out until the very end. We finally found them at the MK on NYE in a giant soft drink for $10 (2 cubes) and the drink cart at MGM right outside of the SciFi Diner.

We left Narcoossee's and headed back to the MK to pick up the kids and take the bus back to our resorts. We had been in constant communication with the girls by GRMS Radio and cell phones. We met them back in Fantasyland and we all rode Dumbo and the Carousel before heading home.

A good time was had by all. :cool1:

LadyArcher- You can try Saki in Japan, but please be advised that it was served hot and not such the great idea to drink in humid FL weather! To be completely honest my suggestion is just to go there and walk up to the stands, fast food restaurants, and into the shops and see what CM's recommend! They were really great with us when we were there!

Warning: I suggest before you start your tour of the world, make a dinner PS. You're def gonna be hungry after and this way you remember to eat and dont have to wait as long! O and also make sure you have plenty of water back in your room for the next morning! :drinking: You're going to need it! Unfortunately we had vodka in one of our water bottles, there was a little confusion the next morning in desperation caused by dehydration as I'm sure you can imagine...overall not a pretty site! :crazy2:

And good luck...it really is fun! :cheer2:

I had kinda a funny, embarrassing moment after spending the afternoon in Dad's Lounge at the 50's Prime Time Diner on my recent trip:

I made it into the hot seat at Millionaire!!

When the host asked what I had been doing all day, I told him I spent the day in the lounge! When I lost (at the 16,000 level), I stepped off my chair and didn't realize there was a little ledge there, and so stumbled a bit. My husband said he made jokes about being in the lounge and then imitated me tripping several times!! Yikes!!

Another funny part of the situation is that when I first got called down, they asked me who I was with. I said my husband was up in the audience and pointed. There he was, on the big screen, pointing a camera at me to take a picture. They made a huge joke of how you aren't allowed to take pictures, and there he is, caught on the big screen, pointing a camera. He truly didn't pay attention when they gave the instructions at the beginning of the show, and so was not deliberately ignoring instructions.

It was all pretty darn funny! :earboy2:

I really like Germany's Biergarten. Good stick to your ribs comfort food. We also like Teppanyaki Steakhouse in Japan. It's a Japanese Steakhouse like Benihana where they cook your food on a grill in front of you. I am not a huge fan of Rose and Crown in the UK or Marrakesh in Morocco. I can take or leave Le Cellier in Canada or Chefs de France in France (good good, but too expensive) and I have never been to the sit-down restaurants in Mexico, Italy or China. As for counter service, I like the egg rolls in China, the Yakatori House in Japan. the Patisserie in France and the Fish and Chips stand in the UK.

Here is a list of menus so you can see if anything catches your fancy:

It really does make me laugh when I think of it - especially when I picture my husband on that big screen with his camera!!

The question I missed - and it kills me, because my daughter knew the answer EASY - was "In what city did the Backstreet Boys meet?" So obvious when I think about it!!

The crazy thing is that the next night I would have made it in the hot seat again, except that a winner has to wait 30 days to be in the hot seat again (I've never made it before, and now I make it twice in one trip!), and I knew ALL the answers without using a lifeline up til the 16,000 level (where the contestant also missed...) Of course, had I been in the hot seat, those easy questions wouldn't have seemed so easy!!

LadyArcher- I love San Angel Inn! Very good, but if you're looking for tex-mex this is not the place for you. This is real Mexican food. Be prepared if you go to Beirgarten in Germany depending on the size of your party you can be placed at a table with other people (I also personally don't enjoy German food, so had an awful time whenever the family forced me to eat here). I enjoyed the sit down restaurant in Italy, but the tables are VERY close together! I have heard wonderful things about Le Cellier, if you like steak. And as for sit downs in China and France I havent eaten there in many many years, but I do remember enjoying Nine Dragons in China.

No - it was Orlando!! A couple of them were Mouseketeers!! If I had thought that through, I might have been successful. My choices were Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, and some other city. Lady Archer- A chocolate martini has chocolate liquor (I've only ever seen places use Godiva, but I'm sure there is other types as well). I think there is also vodka in there and they drizzle chocolate inside the glass. For a little twist on the basic chocolate martini you can have a milky way martini. If I remember correctly its' chocolate liquor, vanilla vodka, and coconut rum. (I'm unsure if it really is vanilla vodka, but I believe it is). Anyways, reeeeeeeally good! They serve them at Houlihans, if youre looking for a place to try one! Get one as dessert after dinner!

DMB- As for other people mouthing their overbearing opinions at me, that's fine. They'll get me heated and I'll dish back 2x. Esp on the topic of alcohol, when I know I have all my lushes here I can come to! :cool1:

DisneyAholic~ Why can't I ever get a work related trip to Disney, hmmm could it be because I teach school and alcohol isn't allowed on school functions?

Ok...to put an end to all the curiosity around my silly ole member name...it is from an old inside joke and it sounds like my name

Really, it's not all that mysterious...lol :smooth:

Whew! I finally read through all 500-something posts! I have a question about the limit on drinks: Do they only allow 1 drink, or is it 2? This is per restaurant/bar/stand? Does this limit apply only in the parks, or does it apply in the resorts and throughout all of WDW?

robinb

I think the limit is 1 drink per person in all Disney bars. The other people don't have to be at the bar when you order, but the bartender needs to actually see the other people drinking. I think this may be a Florida law.

I dont think I understand your question. Are you asking how many drinks you can buy at a time? I know they gave me and my friends a hard time about only getting one drink at a time to make sure we didn't give them to anyone else who couldnt techincally be drinking them (we were only 21 at the time). However if you're clearly an adult I dont think they would give you too much of a problem. As for limiting the amount of times you come back to get more drinks, we were NEVER limited. Disney makes a ton of off alcohol! Esp at the pools! Well I guess if you were falling down they'd prolly stop serving you, lol but other than that, they're motto is: drink more, spend more!

For example, if I went to San Angel Inn and ordered a margarita with dinner, finished it, and ordered another... this is allowed, right? They won't say "you've had your one drink ma'am, now get out!" hehe.

I was (and still am) kind of confused by all of the many different wordings of this.

Fla law is one drink per person when you order.

so's if three of you in your group want something alcoholic, there
needs to be 3 people of legal drinking age there when you order... It does'nt
have to be the people drinking, just three legal adults for 3 drinks.
Getting multiple drinks for example during dinner is just fine.....
Every state has different liquor laws, and few are as confusing initially as
Florida...

It is most definately FL law. sigh.

Thank you , thank you, thank you...I am quite proud!! :cool1:

And sadly, no, "M" is no longer "working with the company" and that was the official word  However, one of the waiters told me (on the sly, of course) that it was pretty mutual....Anyway...they replaced him with another "M" so don't be confused...it is NOT the same guy!!

I had a great room at WL by the way...(Got a "marathon/frequent guest upgrade" - lol - room 6143 - inner courtyard view - I was over looking the pool and the lake and I could see the Geyser go off from the balcony...2 Queen beds by the way...no bunk beds...but it really was lovely.

princess:

I stayed in 6143 the very first time I ever stayed at WL (and the only time as a regular guest--now i stay in villas) and it was the PERFECT view and room. Awesome!

I am taking my first solo trip from April 4-7. I've never gone alone, and it isn't my idea of the best way to do Disney. However, I have a business trip in Tampa the weekend before, and my 22-year-old daughter is flying out to join me in Orlando for the weekend following my solo trip, so I thought I would lay by the pool for the week and work on my Disney travel guide.

However, I wouldn't be against getting together with other Disney revelers for one outing. It would be fun to get a small group together for one foray during that week. Anyone interested?? :drinking1:

DH23- I would LOVE to go. Unfortunately for me its not an option. But Im sure you'll have a great time. You can go eat wherever YOU want, wake up when YOU want, lay by the pool all day, order fun frozen drinks, and actually enjoy yourself!

DH23-Pixiedust is right...you will have such a relaxing time! I will let you know if it is a possibility for me as the dates near...but I doubt it..DH and I our planning to "MAYBE" go for our fist trip without DD to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary in May.

Just wanted to share my trip with all the lushes. We arrived at WL on Wed, Jan 26th. We had a woods view room but got upgraded to CY. Our room was on the 5th floor and looked straight out to the pool and the lake. this was the best room we have had to date. After unpacking...we went down to the pool. It was nice and empty due to the slight chill in the air. I got right into the swing of things by going to the pool bar. The bartender there was a sweetie. I felt guilty getting a drink at 2 pm and made a comment that I was only having one. He reminded me of that when I went back for a second! LOL! I think the drink I ordered was a "lumberjack." It was a fruity rum concoction and he was generous with the Myers Rum! My DH had some vibrant green tequila drink...a real departure for him...as he is a beer or whisky guy. I had my latest issue of "Gourmet" magazine and sipped my drink and just absorbed the atmosphere. I almost got a tear in my eye I was so happy. :flower:

We made a PS when we went back to the room for O'hana. We have never eaten there. It was good...they bring you appetizers and sides and then come around with skewers of pork, turkey, meat and shrimp. I had a Lapu Lapu while waiting for our table and then had a Back Scratcher at the dinner table. I do not usually drink sweet, fruity drinks so I was actually feeling a little gross at this point. The Back Scratcher was another fruity rum drink, but it had a Jack Daniels Floater. Who comes up with these mixes? We had a table right at the window and enjoyed the view and food.

That night we went to EMH at MK and rode a zillion rides with no lines or waiting.

Thursday ate breakfast at WCC...all you can eat. Went to AK and really enjoyed it. The Tarzan Rocks show is phenomenal. Put DD6 into the Cub's Den that night and had drinks at the TL...I had a dirty martini with the most delicious blue cheesed stuffed olives! I had another at dinner at the Artist's Point. We had the $47 Chef's selection...soup, salad, entree and dessert. Excellent.

Friday went to the Perfectly Princess Tea Party at the GF. My girlfriend also attended with her DD. After, she and I went to MK while our DHs went golfing. That night the four of us and our kids ate at Palio in the Swan. It was really good.

Funny story...as we were getting ready in our hotel room for dinner at Palio...I ran down to Roaring Forks to get some wine for me and beer for DH. As I walked to the register with my chardonnay and Heineken, the CM called over a manager. The manager informed me that they cannot sell two alcoholic beverages at a time. I explained one was for my DH and one for me...they were two different items! She was very understanding...she even remarked that you can buy a six pack at the mercantile...but she said she was not allowed. Just then a woman behind me put her arm around me and said the the manager, "I'm with her...the beer is for me...ok?" of course the manager knew that she was a stranger just helping me out, but she allowed the CM to sell the two bevs to me. I thought that was cute!

Saturday had breakfast at WCC again. that all you can eat breakfast is a value at $9.69! We did the DVC tour at SSR and really enjoyed it. They give you $100 Disney dollars just for coming in and it is a very low pressure sales presentation. It was fun and interesting.

*sigh* then we came home :sad2:

ell, thanks for letting me relive my trip. I cannot wait to go back!

I know I will have a great time, even alone (meals are the parts I am not looking forward to as much.) I do have my daughter's arrival to look forward to, and I just signed the two of us up for the Segway tour during her weekend.
I just thought I would see if anyone was around that week, as my hubby is kinda shy and would never be up for a meeting. I'm shy, too, but feel good about taking risks. So, if anyone ends up being around, let me know!

I have a question about the DVC - I have always wanted to do the tour. I know I will buy someday. Does everyone get the Disney Dollars, or did you have to "wrangle" the deal when you signed up? How did you sign up - at one of those little stands? Thanks!!

DH23-In your room is a white envelope that says "Invitation." I think it is in every room at every resort. In that, it says that you will receive 100 DD for going on the hour long tour. I then contacted the little DVC desk that is in every resort. The guy was friendly and knowlegeable and thru him I booked the tour for noon on our departure day. Our tour took closer to two hours, but we asked a lot of questions and really took our time. At the end of the tour, when you receive brochures, a video, etc....your salesperson will give you your $100 as a thank you. Then they lead you to an ice cream parlor (after you pick up any kids you may have left in the kid's club...they can play in there for free while you are touring ... our DD had a BLAST!) and you get free ice cream! This is premium ice cream, too. I got coconut and put chocolate sauce and nuts on it. they have a bunch of flavors and we each got one and sat in the cute room and watched a little choo choo train go round and round. Then the van picks you up (whenever you are ready) to whisk you back to your hotel. Or, if you want, you can stroll over to DTD and have a van take you back to the hotel later.

The only issue you may have is supposedly if you are married...both spouses must attend the sales presentation. Now...they don't ask you, but I think they may have your info in the computer when you give your name so they may know you have a DH who is not on this trip.

I have another question for my solo trip:

Where, in all your lushy opinions, is the best place to get a drink and watch the fireworks? I am trying to decide between California Grill and O'Hana's.

I was thinking of eating at O'Hana's and then getting a drink and heading down to the beach for the fireworks. Do they pipe the music on the beach?

(By the way, this is for when my daughter arrives, not by myself! ;) )

I can't tell you if they pipe the music in on the beach at the Poly...i bet someone else can help you with that! But that sounds like a great idea to me...getting a drink at the Poly and going to the beach. I think CG is getting too crowded. I don't know if you can see the fireworks from the bar at CG, and getting a table during Wishes is difficult and if you CAN score a table, I am sure a dinner should be ordered, not just drinks (don't know if you wanted to dine or not.)

i really enjoyed my Lapu Lapu at Ohana...served in a hollowed out pineapple.

LOL...even if you WERE alone...I wouldn't think it was a bad thing to have a Lapu Lapu and watch the fireworks by yourself! Sounds like heaven to me! :flower:

Yes WLL,

The countdown timer sure has taken it's time. But in 5 months I will be able to have my first Fiesta Margarita (after not having one for over a year) I think that's deplorable!

I also can wait to try out a few new things I have learned from you all. Also that great new slide @ OKW (and sitting by the Gurgling Suitcase too)!!!

Talk about the best attitude adjustment ever!

Welllllcommmme Hommme Mac! :flower:

I am so jealous...you get to call WDW "home!"

We will one day, I promise you that. But after crunching the numbers and adding some stuff up...we decided that pre paying for our vacations (which is basically what DVC is all about ) is not something we can justify right now. It is a smart thing to do if you have the money...but we are going to wait just a bit. We are going to look into buying a VWL resale as opposed to buying SSR ...*sigh* ... it is all so confusing and we have been losing sleep over it!

Anyhoo...if the codes come out...DH and I are gonna go for our 8 year wedding anniversary...gonna stay at PORFQ for 2 nights...that will be in may. Maybe I will have my FIRST "Fiesta Margarita" then. Can you believe I have never had one?

So,,,since OKW is only a DVC resort (right?)...can I sit at the Gurgling Suitcase? I have heard it is a great spot. But I guess I have to be a guest, or the guest of a guest. Too bad....I might have to rent some points just so I can check it out!

Robin is right but it sure is well themed as far as being a small hole in the wall place in (the keys). But something about draws me back time and again. DH & I make sure to sit there every time we're there just for the memory I guess.

But we also want to try the place in the WL (I seem to have missed that last time there), and since we will have a few days @ POR before the outlaws come to join us we are going to sit around that Muddy Waters Pool Bar (I love it there) we walked over to that pool once when we were staying at POFQ.

Want to try the Bloody Mary (they claim to be spicy!!!!)

Anyway WLL, you're right you'll take the plunge when it fits into your budget. We consider ourselves fortunate enough to have been able to buy in. Just wish we had looked into it earlier.

Hi Robin!!! I see what you mean...it is probably a great place to toss one back if you are staying there, but maybe not worth the drive if that is all you are going to do on OKW property.

Mac-You are going to have to give me a full report on your opinions of POR. I see you have stayed at POFQ...why are you staying POR this time? Whcih one would be better for a romantic getaway? I am a little iffy about staying there, but since it will be just DH and I, we figure that boat that takes you to DTD will be invaluable! I have NEVER been to Pleasure Island. Anyone have any opinions on PI? Oh, and you MUST go to the TL at WL...so far, it is my favorite WDW br...and not just cuz I am a WL lover, either. It is very cozy there. then again...I have not been to every bar on WDW property...which is something I plan to achieve soon!

DH23- You could also dine at Narcoosees or just grab a drink at the bar and stroll out onto the deck for WISHES. They do pump the music there and it is a GREAT view!

MAC- while youre down there I would love to see some pictures of the new slide at OKW, so if you dont mind taking a couple pics that would be suuuuuuper!!!

WLL- I'm not a fan at all of POFQ. It's extremely small and I dont really enjoy the theming. I do however love POR or as I know it Dixie Landings. It's much more romantic. If you're looking for romance I would suggest staying in the mansions. We always stayed in the bayou b/c its a fun place for kids. As for the resort, I think you get more variety in terms of food at POR and the pool area is MUCH better. The slide at FQ is a child slide, while there's a hot tub and an adult slide at POR. Both have access to the boat to DTD. However I do recall the boat trip taking quite some time! :hourglass
Now I've spent some time at PI and really enjoyed myself, but I think it all depends on what youre looking for. We liked 8-tracks: a little bar with room for dancing that plays 80's music. We also like the beach place, the trendy pop music place and the BET soundstage. They were good places for dancing and pretty much the closest we could get to our usual NYC party atmosphere. We tried the adventurers club and found the actors to be much more of an annoyance then entertainment. As for manaquins I've never been there and the idea of a rotating dance floor while drinking makes me think I might have made the right choice. Unfortunately now anyone with a parent can get onto the actual island and you just need a wristband to get into the bars themselves, so I imagine there will be no more jello shot girls wondering the streets. And I think you might have been able to walk with you drink outside, but I can't really recall if you could or couldnt....my memory is a little hazy for some reason...

Thanks PD! It is so funny...I am getting SO MANY conflicting reports on POFQ and PO (DL as you know it...LOL!) I can use the amenities at both, right? So how close are the two resorts? Since this IS a lush thread...tell me about the little lounge there. Do POR AND POFQ have a lounge? Also, is Boatwrights worth it? Looks like a place we would eat breakfast, but maybe dinner go elsewhere.

DH and I are not into "nightclub" type places. We would like a bar that we can just sit at and be mellow. I know they are gonna build an Irish Pub at PI...wonder when that will be ready? Maybe we should just skip PI and hang out at the bar at HOB or something.

*sigh* if codes come out, I think we may just go back to the tried and true WL. the thing is...i really DO want to try other resorts. We'll see. thanks for the tips.

Yikes! So much to reply to ... so little time ;).

MAC3: A lot of people love the Gurgling Suitcase for the exact reasons you mention. You are not alone! I personally wouldn't make a special trip, but it is a nice stop if you're already visiting OKW. I will probably visit it more now that the main pool has a slide (yippie, from my DD). Perhaps we'll even pool hop on our next trip. We have a studio booked at BCV. That'll be a first ... leaving Stormalong Bay behind to swim at OKW :rotfl:.

pixiedust23: I love POFQ for the very reasons you don't! I love that it's small and it really does remind me of the French Quarter in NO ... without the strip clubs ;).

WLL:I like the pool bar at POFQ and I really like the bar inside. It was very quiet last summer. I like POR too. I love the bar there when Bob Jackson is at the piano. He does goofy sing-alongs ... a little like Jellyrolls but totally G-rated and kid friendly. His schedule can be found here (but turn down your sound before for take the link!) http://www.yehaabob.com/. We try to visit Bob Jackson even if we don't stay at POR/POFQ.

PD23, I will gladly take and (with the help of someone not as techie challenged as myself) will post them. There were some posted on Deb Wills site. IMHO, I think it's a bit odd looking but, I'd much rather have the slide than not!.

WLL, I will let you know about POR. We have stayed @ POFQ before and did enjoy it. I found it to be romantic. Well if you could call it that with the girls around but it had a quaint charm to it (excluding the serpent ). We did go over POR to swim (although the girls don't remember) but DH & I certainly remember sitting @ the Muddy Waters Pool Bar. I really liked that place.

I will definately try the TL this time (really don't know how I missed it last time???? :confused3

I choose POR to get me one step closer to staying at each Disney Resort (hopefully I can accomplish it in this lifetime). The girls wanted to change to POP but DH wants a Hot Tub on site ???

I don't get how anyone can get in a hottub in Orlando in July????

robinb you are correct, if your there it's a definate hang out. If not (not worth the trip) Although from what I've read about that slide I bet OKW becomes quite popular. Where is Bob Jackson? POR or POFQ?

Thinking of trying Le Cellier & Ohanas, can anyone comment? We usually eat @ ESPN, Prime time & Sci Fi....

Steved - welcome to the thread and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials

WLL-I've stayed at both POFQ and POR (although POR only for one night and then moved to POFQ). POR is beautiful and very romantic. An evening stroll through the grounds with your DH would be very romantic for your anniversary. The pool looks better than POFQ's, though my DD7 absolutely loved it (then again, she didn't try POR's). POFQ is much smaller and very quaint, but it does not have a sit down restaurant like POR. The rooms were the same in both, other than a little difference in colors and such. The one thing that I loved about POFQ was that the buses pick up and drop off there first, so you will have a higher probability of getting a seat than if you stay at POR (which has 3 or 4 stops). Now, the buses are shared between the 2 resorts, which can be a drag, but POFQ has the advantage on the transportation. I don't know about the DTD ferry because it was closed when we stayed there last year (hurricane Jeanne blew right through during our stay and the ferry did not re-open until after we left. The 2 resorts are close together so you can easily walk to the other one. I've heard Boatwrights is really good, but I didn't try it.

MAC - I can't wait to use my DVC points (I close on SSR in March). I've reserved for my annual birthday trip in Sept but I'll see if I can slip a weekend in before then (though I better get on it soon or I'll find no vacancy!).

I'm bummed because I'm going this coming long weekend and can't find any room at WDW. It's completely sold out. I'm lucky that I can stay at my parents nearby, but I wanted to stay inside the magic.... oh well... my fault for not making reservations earlier.

I love both Le Cellier and Ohanas!! Le Cellier has really good cheese soup, and the sourdough breadsticks that come with every meal are delicious. This is one of my favorite Epcot eateries.

Ohanas is my husband and daughter's favorite place. There is plenty of meat - I always find it a little dry, but I still enjoy the place immensely. I love the won tons in the first course, and the pineapple and caramel. It is also a great place for firework viewing, and if you have little kids, there are lots of activities for them throughout the meal.

Can't wait to visit both again!! :goodvibes

Hello again! Nice to see some renewed activity on this thread! :cheer2:

Mac-I went to Ohana for the first time ever in january and I was pleasantly surprised. I was not overwhelmed by the food, but it was pretty darn good. I enjoyed our seat, right by the window. The wings were good, as were the little wonton/dumpling thingys they give you at the beginning. The rice was just "eh." The meat was a little on the dry side, but I like my red meat medium rare and of course they do not serve it like that! The shrimp was good, but I got tired of having to peel them, and they were messy. DH was happy...very thrilled with "all you can eat meat" and DD did that coconut race thing, and I was drinking a lapu lapu and then a back scratcher (check them out on the drink menu) so we were all happy!

I do want to try Le Cellier...maybe on our anniversary trip! Although if codes do not come out, then we will probably go elsewhere. Maybe Naples (FL...not Italy...LOL!)

Have fun Iluvdmb!

Cristy! Where have you been, missy? Did you see my "trip/lush" report a few pages back on this thread? check it out. We ALMOST purchased at SSR. I thought about you the whole time and even used you as an example to my DH...told him I have a friend who is an accountant and crunched the numbers and said it was a good deal. Actually, I did not have to "sell" him on the idea...we just don't have the $$ sitting around at this very moment. Also, we are debating on whether to get a VWL resale or buy SSR. So I am hoping DVC is in our not too distant future!

As for the POR vs POFQ battle...the buses are NOT an issue as we will probably not go to any parks...with the exception of Epcot MAYBE to do dinner. I want ambiance and a nice pool and a nice lounge and a sitdown restaurant. But again...no codes, no go! :sad2:

Sorry you could not get a room inside WDW. Maybe you can check again when you get there. But have fun anyway...i am sure you will! :earsgirl:

MAC - I can't wait to use my DVC points (I close on SSR in March). I've reserved for my annual birthday trip in Sept but I'll see if I can slip a weekend in before then (though I better get on it soon or I'll find no vacancy!).

I'm bummed because I'm going this coming long weekend and can't find any room at WDW. It's completely sold out. I'm lucky that I can stay at my parents nearby, but I wanted to stay inside the magic.... oh well... my fault for not making reservations earlier.

I understand your frustration about not having a ressie. But Welcome Home just the same. Ironically I'm always in the negative as far as points are concerned.

Thanks for all the replies on Ohanas & Le Cellier. According to our party (and after viewing the menus) I think we had made the right choices and after talking with you all I'm sold.

IloveDMB,

If you try them before us please let us know your findings.

Nice to see everyone up and lushing again & WLL,

I'll be sure to check those drinks out personally!!!

Hello LOTW!

Im sorry for not coming any sooner, and unfortunately I have to keep this one quick and simple. The trip in December was Ahhh-mazing. I can't give a full review just yet, but I have to say I suuuure love the Polynesian...everything was just wonderful as usual. Since that trip, she came to visit me in January and attend my brothers wedding. The day after the wedding, we did what any other sick Disney enthusiast would do...take a trip to Disney World! We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn (again) for two nights (its definitely my favorite resort) and it was simply awesome. A couple of weeks later before her flight back we decided to indulge ourselves in Beach Club concierge (it was the only thing available with the AP code) and now we're planning our next trip for May.

Anyways, thanks for all the best wishes people have left on the board, and once again Im really sorry I couldnt come on any sooner :p.

Ill try to get pictures up SOMETIME in the near future! :)

'til then, take care!

ahhhhhh!

I have missed you! Glad you popped in to say hello! I have never stayed at the Poly "OR" at BW so I would love to hear what you liked about each resort! I also want to hear about what and where you ate and drank!

We may be going in the beginning of May...so let me know your dates and maybe we can meet up somewhere and do a shot! LOL! :teeth:

Oh really??? I think we're doing the third week of May (3 resorts in 1 week and hittin up starwars weekend...nothing beats star tours after a few shots of tequila)

Let me tell you, The Poly and BWI are my favorite resorts...BWI edges it a bit because of the location, but they are great. I will probably send you a private message with the details.

ill be around a bit more, but not as much...good to be back :3dglasses

Welcome back, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! we really missed you! I will probably also hit the world the last week of May, I usually go for Memorial day weekend, so maybe you, WLL and I could meet (which is weird cuz I think we're all South Floridians, right?). Please don't forget to give us details on the whole engagement thing... we've been anxiously waiting for the details!

MAC & IloveDMB, you'll really like Ohana's and Le Cellier. We have done Ohana's twice and have really liked it, and I've never gotten a table by the window! I just like the whole atmosphere and some of the food is really good... not everything, but heck, I am not that picky... ;) My DH and I went to Le Cellier a few years ago and really liked it; the steak was fabulous and so was the cheese soup. Now I'm thinking I should make a PS for this weekend.... yum.

Hi Cristy!

Well...I am SUPPOSED to go in the beginning of May. Our anniversary is May 3rd which is a Tuesday. I kind of want to go the weekend BEFORE our anniversary cuz isn't there some special celebration starting May 5th? I am "trying" to avoid the crowds. I made my ressie anyway...for POFQ for May 6-8th....but a water view room is $185 a night (with tax!) I am sorry, but I guess I am spoiled...I am used to paying $130 a night for WL. there is no way we will stay at POFQ (or anywhere in WDW) if codes do not come out. Last time I stayed at a mod (CSR) I paid $89 a night. That was what I was looking for on this upcoming trip!

I think we will do Boatwrights for Breakfast one morning, Boma one night for dinner...and then one more dinner is up in the air. probably somewhere in DTD.

Welcome back AHHHHHH!

As for the rest of you lushes I am quite jealous of you and all your upcoming trips. I don't see any trips in my future since I'm taking out a loan to finance going back to school to get my teaching certification....being young and not knowing what you want to do until after you graduate isnt the best feeling in the world, but at least i've got a plan now, unfortunately it doesnt involve any vacations for the next couple years... :sad2:

Sorry PD, but it DOES sound like you have your priorities straight! Even though it is not "fun" you are doing the right thing. Maybe you should start planning a big trip for when you graduate...or when you get hired...or something! Just to have it to look forward to!

I forgot...where are you located? Just trying to figure out how far away (geographically) you are from WDW.

I'm about 20 min outside NYC in NJ. I figure maybe I can go for a spontaeous long weekend if the airlines have special deals or something like that, but it's hard to book DVC far out b/c you can only book a certain number of months ahead of time. but i shall live vicariously through you all!

:confused3 Don't know if this is the right place to post this question. DW and I have taken up the habit of escaping the MK for adult bevs at the monorail resorts. So far we like the lounge outside of Ohana's the best; lapu lapus, coupla coronas, daiqs, you get the idea. Do any of the lounges have a snack or appetizer menu. I should probably know this, but the memory goes first you know.

Each of the lounges on the Monorail Drinkathon have appetizers, although Mizner's Lounge at Grand Floridian doesn't on Monday and Tuesday (at least those were the two days when we were there in December - the appetizers come from Citricos, so on the nights Citricos is closed, no appetizers...)
Here is my humble opinion on appetizers:
The Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lounge didn't have our favorite choices. We had the nachos, and the cheese was like 7-11 cheez whiz. We loved Polynesian, at the Tambu Lounge - there were several delicious offerings. We had the egg rolls, and they were incredible. At the Grand Floridian, Mizner's, there were no appetizers the night we were there. At the California Grill at the Contemporary, we had the most incredible Flank Steak Flatbread. I dream about that flatbread! :cool1:

This thread is totally foreign to me  I never even imagined doing a drink a thon in WDW! Of course I travel with two little girls. I don't drink well, but visiting the different "establishment via monorail sounds like fun. Would it be worth spending $20/hr for babysitting?

wildernesslodgelover
02-19-2005, 12:16 PM
fam-Hello and welcome! How old are your kiddies? Cuz I always have one night each trip that is "mommy/daddy" night. We put our daughter in one of the kid's clubs. She has stayed at Simba's Cubhouse (at AKL) and Cub's Den (at WL) and she loves both places and begs to stay there! It is $10 per hour and they get dinner there, also. It opens at 4:30 and i "think" stays open til midnight (we have never left her there that long!)

So now I am realizing maybe that is what you meant by "babysitting." Since you have 2 kids, it would be $20 an hour. Kinda steep, but might be worth it!

Here's a tip for anyone going during the Food and Wine Fest. At Rose and Crown they do an internation beer tasting. They give out free samples of 5 or 6 different beers (Stella Artois, Lowenbrau, Boddingtons, Bass Ale, other I forget).
When I say samples it is a 12oz of each beer so 6 beers in total. Now here are the secrets. ;)
1) Book days before or go as soon as WS opens since it fills quickly.
2) If you are in a large group sit 2 at a table since the give a bucket of beers per table. (Better to share with one person than 3) :)
3) Don't be afraid to swap beers you don't like for ones you like with other tables.
4) There are bathrooms right across the street. (You will need them)

My wife and I have done this the past three years. One time we went so many times in a week that we became friendly with the people running the tasting. :teeth:

Here's a story of true love. My wife now (girlfriend in this story) went to disney for the first time in 98. We brought rum into epcot in a water bottle. :rolleyes1 (Helps make the Coke taste good.). While we were on Horizons (miss that ride) in scene where you are in front of the big screen showing earth and things spinning. We were passing the bottle back and forth doing shots. Went on the ride 2 more times to do the same thing. It was then that I new I was in love.

So, I'm sitting here missing the Disney Magic where I went to beer tastings were every other day, drinks were available at everywhere and pool CM's walked by at just the right to bring you another. Not to mention the hour of free bahama mamas as a "sorry for missing castaway cay". Then, I come across this thread and I must say this has to be the best thread ever, though I haven't gotten through the 40-something pages yet.

Would someone please give me a brief list of the Monorail Lounges and the Epcot Resort Lounges to hold me over until I actually get a chance to enjoy the whole thread. (And if there are signatures drinks for each place, too, that would be great!)

TIA!

OK ... here's my take on the Magic Kingdom Resort Lounges :drinking1.

Leaving the MK on the Monorail ...

Contemporary Resort
DIS's Own Contemporary Page (http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/Resorts/contempdining.htm)

Outer Rim Lounge -- Located outside Chef Mickey's. Large windows overlook Bay Lake and the ultra modern furniture is more comfortable than it looks. This lounge can be a bit loud because of it's proximity to Chef Mickey's. I would recommend a drink with a glow cube in it. It goes along with the "contemporary" theme and it gives you a toy to play with the rest of the night. Here is a menu: (warning, UK site) http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/menucontor.html

The Sand Bar -- Located next to the pool. Note, the bar was under construction as of 12/2004. A snack menu can be found here: http://allearsnet.com/menu/menu_sand.htm

The California Grill -- Located on the 15th floor the California Grill provides a beautiful panoramic view of WDW and the Magic Kingdom. The bar is against an interior wall, so you'll need to turn around or go out on the observation deck for the view. You must check in on the 2nd floor to access the California Grill. On busy nights you may not visit the bar for a drink and the bar is sometimes used for dining.

Next ... the Polynesian Resort

robinb,

Can you just go up to the CG for just a drink? Before prime hours..... I know I did it once. But the next time we tried it there was a private party going on. I wasn't sure if they had a bar area just for having a drink.

pixiedust23

Mac, I'm fairly sure you can go up to CG to grab just a drink. I think your last situation was special b/c the entire restaurant was probably rented out, I don't think that is a normal occurance.

Welcome maine-Jennifer! I am glad Robin could post such informative stuff...I was just gonna say "Outer Rim at CR, Bar at Ohana @Poly (don't know the name of the bar) and Mizner's at the GF!" So we both got a lot more info than we planned for!

BTW...I would suggest starting your drink-a-thon at the WL...at the delightfully cozy Territory Lounge. Then take a boat to the CR, drink there, then get on the monorail and go to Poly and GF! heehee!

Welcome maine-Jennifer!

Thanks! I've read about 22 pages of this very long thread, so I'm about half way caught up to the present. Most of my drinking is done on vacations, or out of necessity at family gatherings. My last trip was a 7-night cruise on the Disney Magic. I went with my nephew 15 who could wander off on his own and a group of online Disney friends. We had planned drinking outings in Cozumel, many late nights in Rockin' Bar D, and spent the last day of the cruise thoroughly enjoying the hour of FREE BAHAMA MAMAS(WooooOOOOOOooooooo). There was no way any of us were getting scurvy on that voyage!

Anyway, as I was going through the thread, here are some comments I would've responded with earlier, had I known about the thread before now. It's kind of long, but hey - this is a long thread anyway!

From PAGE 3

Hey ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! – The brewery sampler pic was great. Reminded me of the beer tastings on the ship last month. Will definitely have to make a stop there sometime.

From PAGE 6

Yeah, I know it's only 10am, but it's cocktail hour somewhere in the world!!!!!
On the Disney Magic, it starts at 9am.

From PAGE 7

on our last trip (at the boardwalk) right before we went to the pool (around 11am) she was preppin her drink: 3/4 rum, 1/4 coke...
That's how a wonderful CM made my Malibu & Diets on the cruise!!

From PAGE 9

Here's my F&W trip report (like I said before, my DH stuck to wine and I did the beer run).
Thanks for posting. Looks like I'll end up at WDW during the F&W fest and I'm not a wine drinker either. No offense to anyone here, but I've always felt that wine is for sissies. ;)

From PAGE 10

BTW, the beer with the lemon is usally a hefe weizen beer. These are wheat based, light (in taste not calories) beers served ice cold with a wedge of lemon. Great summer beers as the go down smooth.
I think this may have been one of beers at the beer tastings, or maybe it was just one he was talking about. Don't really remember the names of all of the ones we tried.

From PAGE 19

Any lo-cal drink ideas?
Like the others said, stay away from stuff with juice!!! I stuck to mostly Malibu and Diets and while I drank more than I do at home, which isn't hard to do, I still lost 4 lbs on the cruise.

PAGE 19

Guiness is your best bet for low-cal beer.
Yes, it also has a lower alcohol % per volume, more calcium than milk, loaded with flavonoids (which are antioxidants - had to look it up. Don't remember the explanation, but remember the word FLAV O NOIDS!) and has other stuff like vitamin Bsomething.

Is there a seat avaiable at this bar? How did I miss this thread? It's only 650+ posts long.

My personal favorite spots in the World are:

Big River Brewery - Great, fresh beer at reasonable prices. We went mid-afternoon and the bartender tried to arrange a tour of the brew works for us after we mentioned that we brewed our own beer. Unfortunately, the brew master was unavailable. Next time for sure!

Dawa Bar ar AK - Not the best beer, but it's big and cold and the band is fun.

Rose & Crown - I cringe at the prices, but can't stay away.

Norway - A cold Ringnes beer from a fetching, friendly Scandinavian (insert a vision of your gender preference) can't be beat.

Who's round is it anyways!

Bunsen-welcome! Hehe, my DH was kind of mesmerized by the CMs at Norway. Our waitress was about 22 and adorable. I didn't see any hunky guys there... :sad2:

Maine-jen-Well...I AM a wine drinker...but no offense take! :goodvibes Now, I gotta say...I do not waste my time with Malibu cuz it has a very low alcohol content. Gotta drink twice as much to get buzzed! At least that is what I remember. Is that still true? Just like these new "light" bacardi products. Yes, they are half the calories...AND HALF THE ALCOHOL! :confused3 I was so excited when I first heard about the light bacardi products...but I'll just stick with my vodka...Hanger One served at most WDW resort bars! It's the best! I ahd my first dirty martini made with hanger One at Mizner's at the GF...what a grand memory...the start of a beautiful relationship! :lovestruc

LOL!

maine_jennifer
02-24-2005, 02:59 PM
WLL - LOL

As for the Malibu it is only 24.0% (48 proof). But I had to choose something like that - I didn't want to puke or pass out. See, we ended up with 4 days at sea instead of just 2 and those days at sea with my new friends were sometimes very long!!! :rolleyes1 Especially the last one when we found out that we weren't going to Disney's Private Island - Castaway Cay. Once the announcement was made that we couldn't dock, and we'd try again in an hour, I went to get breakfast, after all it was 9:15am. Well, one of these great new friends came up to me and slamming his fist down, "I'm ready for a drink of the day!" I slammed, my fist down and said, "Me too!", not expecting him to go get them. Well, 5 minutes later, I had - what turned out to be - a nasty apple madras with my bagel and cereal. LOL We thought from previous cruisers remarks that there would be free booze at some point. And after the announcement was made that our second attempt didn't work either, we found out that at 2pm there would be a whole hour of free bahama mamas! Must say that the DCL wasn't skimpy on their drinks at all!

Will definitely have to try Hangar One in October. Vodka used to be my thing, but the juice I'd mix it with started to bother me.

Thank DB...I am familiar w/Gordon Biersch but did not know that!

maine-jen-I would prefer free booze to docking at Castaway Cay (I think?)

I really like vodka with club soda and lots of lime. The dirty martinis are great cuz they are low cal...in the sense of they are pure booze and a splash of olive juice. If you like salty, you will like dirty Martinis. I used to be strictly a "cosmopolitan" gal but those are too sweet...same with an apple martini. They are good if you are just going to have one drink.

I also must HIGHLY recommend Capt Morgan and club soda w/lime. very refreshing and not as sickening as with coke.

Yes. My tip ... don't! Hard liquor bottles would probably be OK wrapped up in clothes. But beer ... I wouldn't do it. The holds are not pressured or heated the same as the regular cabin. Just stop at a grocery store on your way to your hotel. If you're not staying a place with a fridge, you'll want to pick up a styrofoam cooler anyway to keep the brewskis nice and cold :).

Nope, couldn't get tickets. All the shows around here featured Bruce, not DMB. I don't prefer Bruce, but I would have gone anyway. But do you know how hard it is to get Bruce tickets in the NJ vicinity? Damn near impossible.

While I like lime with my captain and diet, I don't like the diet coke with lime. Definitely not the same!

Hey, I can add my experience!! LOL, I pack liquor to go - but according to the airline website, carry on luggage!!

I pack a bottle of wine, champagne, and a liquor (Gran Marnier - its cheaper to buy at sam's club than at a liquor store - $23 a bottle! can be $4 - 6 a snifter shot) I use a big bag to carry on, and of course check my luggage - I guess you could say I had my priorities!! :cool1:

Nothing wrong with that eeyore , can I get an Amen!

AMEN! Hallelujah!

miss mouse-You two will have a blast. I am sure your BF will love the WL...my DH loves it there...it has more of a "macho" feel to it than, say...the GF. Congrats on graduation!

My favorite drink at the TL? that's easy. I get a vodka dirty martini (the TL did NOT carry my beloved Hangar One vodka, unfortunately) usually with grey goose and I ask for blue cheese stuffed olives. That is heaven for me! But they do have specialty drinks there. I remember sitting by the pool drinking a fruity rum concoction...I "think" is was called a "lumberjack." Not sure, cuz DH had a bright green tequila drink at the same time. I know ONE of our drinks was called "lumberjack." Anyway, the pool bar is fun, too!

DH-Hoping someone can give you better insight than I. i really did like the Victoria Falls lounge at the AKL. that is a great resort to walk around and check out.

I am planning to visit several other Disney resorts on this trip - places I have not really explored. I am looking for your wisdom - which resort bars should I visit?

Might help if you list some of the places you're planning to visit. Course, I can be no help, I don't spend enough time in the resorts to bother, but I'm sure if you list some places, someone can help you.

I am really open - I haven't planned my days yet. I thought I would plan the resorts I visit by the advice I get here. I do know I am having dinner one night at Trails End, so I will be at Fort Wilderness, and I will be having lunch at Boatwrights once, so a visit to Port Orleans is definitely in order. Oh, and I have a PS at Olivias, but don't even know yet which resort to which I am traveling! :confused3

Thanks all, for your help!

I am looking for your wisdom - which resort bars should I visit? Are there any specialty drinks at any of them that I should plan to enjoy?

Personally, I like the Victoria Falls lounge in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's on the 2nd floor and overlooks Bomas. It seems to hang in the air as it is one floor below the main lobby and one floor above the restaurants. It is very open and airy with comfortable chairs. We like to get to the AKL early for our PS and catch a drink there. I also like dirty martinis there, but mine is made with Bombay Sapphire gin. There are plenty of public viewing areas for the animals, so you could easily spend an hour exploring the resort before your cocktail.

Another place that looked really interesting was the bar at the Todd English's Blue Zoo at the Dolphin. We ate dinner at the restaurant in December (only so-so food, but the service was great) and thought the bar looked like a great adult hide out. It is very modern looking and retro at the same time. This restaurant really belongs at the Contemporary!

Yes. My tip ...

ETA: Welcome :).

If you are flying in, take Happy Limo for your transportation--they provide you with a 15 minute grocery store stop for free!!!! I LOVE them!

WLL- The WL really is beautiful, I figured it would give my BF a great impression of Disney; besides, the more he likes it, the sooner we can go back!! :teeth: We are going two days after our college graduation; it'll be our first vacation together, and he hasn't been since he was six, so most everything will be new to him!!

The lounge at the WL is the Territory Lounge, right? The last time I was there I was underage, so it wasn't important to me :p What is your favorite beverage there?

Miss Mouse--I had a similiar experience with my boyfriend. I had just taken the bar exam and needed to get away. I took him down there and he hadn't been to WDW since he was 9. I was SO nervous...If he hadn't LOVED it, I think we would have been in trouble:) But he LOVED it and now we don't go anywhere else...we're currently planning our WDW Wedding!!! :cloud9:

Hi Codie! Did you see my post a few pages back...I did the DVC tour and we were SOOOO close to buying in. I know we will eventually, just don't have the $$ right now. :( I hope you do get married at WDW. I wish I would have looked into that, but when I got married 8 years ago, I was not "into" WDW. I was invited to a wedding there in Jan 1999 but I had my baby (DD now 6) just days before the wedding and there was no way I could make it! Makes me sad, cuz I don't know if I'll ever be invited to another WDW wedding. Guess I have to start planning my DD's! LOL!

I also ate dinner there and stopped at the bar at the end of the night. I had a dirty Grey Goose (The only thing the French are good for) martini. The drink was excellent and very large. If I remember correctly it was 7 or 8 bucks. Not too bad for great atmosphere, vodka and size.

That is good to know, blackliliy. I would be afraid to go there to have a drink cuz I would have been sure that a martini at Blue Zoo would cost a lot more than that. So I will put that on my "to try" list!

ETA: Try that Hangar One Vodka made in the good old USA...California, to be exact. They don't carry it everywhere, but I was amazed at how many places in the World have it. It blows Grey Goose away!

YEAHHHHH! My boyfriend, whoops, I mean fiance, finally picked a date for the wedding and we took an emergency trip to Disney last weekend to pick the location of our wedding. We will be getting married at the Atlantic Dance Hall. We are so excited to bring all our family down to disney for the wedding. We enjoyed quite a few drinks on our trip as a result of all the planning...
I had a Blue Bay Bomber (think that is right) at Narcosees...I think the bartender made it wrong. It was supposed to have malibu rum and I think it just had regular rum--I wasn't a huge fan. I had an Irish Red brew at Big River on the Boardwalk--very tasty, especially after our 2 hour fishing trip. AND the best drink of all was the Endless Summer at Wolfgang Puck's--downtown...I drank two and was begging for a third before our meal came!

Yay Codie! Congrats on setting the date! :Pinkbounc May I ask when? You can PM me with that date if you would like.

Ok, dumb, dumb question coming...is Atlantic Dance Hall at Boardwalk? :confused3 Why am I not familiar with it? Any pics I can see of the place?

OK..the most important question...WILL THERE BE AN OPEN BAR AT THE RECEPTION??? LOL...inquiring minds wanna know! :rotfl:

What is in the Endless Summer? Did you enjoy your dinner at WP?

I still have my ressie at POFQ ..now for our actual anniversary, May 1-3 (Sun-Tues.) But we are trying to rent points at a DVC studio. Our first choice is BWV...but apparently there are NO studios to be had Sunday night at any DVC resort except SSR and OKW. So we are thinking OKW (10 points) rather than SSR (12 points.) Any opinion on that? But if we can get BWV for 11 points a night, we should snatch that up, yes?

I'm also interested in the contents of the Endless Summer!

So, I'm finalizing plans for my solo trip in...17 days!! Can't wait. If anyone can give me advice on specialties to drink at any of the following places, I would be very interested. These are the places I intend to visit:

Wilderness Lodge pool
Olivias
Spoodles
Trails End
O'hana
Chefs de France
Cape May
Jellyrolls
Prime Time Diner
Sci Fi Diner
anyplace at Epcot
anyplace at Animal Kingdom

I am actually getting excited about a solo trip. Originally, I was feeling some trepidation, but I have received a lot of support from the Boards! I had originally planned to only go to the parks a couple of times during my solo days, awaiting my daughter's arrival. However, with encouragement, I've decided to purchase a seven-day expiring park hopper, and go to the parks for at least a short time every day. After all, I only added a couple of bucks to add days, if I went expiring. Pretty decent deal.

I welcome any advice for my trip!! I will be there April 4-10 (but alone April 4-7). :earsgirl:

Hi DH! I am not really "into" specialty drinks. I usually stick with my usual Dirty Martinis or chardonnay. But I did have a delicious rum concoction called a "lumberjack" at the WL pool bar (Trout's Pass.) I hope Stewart is tending bar. He made a great drink!

I love the lounge at AKL (Victoria Falls.) I really liked the little snack mix they have there. It is called snack mix with "afritude" or something like that. Went really well with the drinks.

have fun and I hope you post here with a full report!

So happy I found this thread. I am planning my sisters bachelorette party from June 23 - 27th. There are nine "girls" planning to attend, so I think a drink around the World or a monorail marathon would be appropriate! The date is September 1st!! And we haven't totally decided on the bar, but no cash will be accepted! The atlantic dance hall is on the Boardwalk between the Boardwalk and Yacht Club sort of in front of swan/dolphin. There are pictures (but not very good) at the disneyweddings.com site. I called WP's and asked for the recipe for endless summer...it was rum, watermelon pucker, peach schnapps, grenadine, and pineapple juice (I might be missing something there but I think that is it.)...we LOVE eating at WP's--we eat there every time.

BWV is the best but after that OKW is very nice and well worth the trip. I haven't stayed at SSR, but it should be very nice since it is all brand new. WE went over there for the grand opening and it seemed very, very nice!

Let me know where you land!!

I wish I was "into" WDW when I got married...I would have gotten married at WDW or at least would have honeymooned there. Speaking of honeymoons...what are your honeymoon plans? Will you hang out at WDW? Maybe you should pop over to Disney's Vero Beach resort?

So apparently you love WP. I never think to eat there, becaue there is one 5 miles from my house (at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise) so I just don't think of that place when I am on vacation. But if we end up at OKW we may spend one night at DTD and we will be lookig for a place to dine. I am still crossing my fingers that we will get a studio at BWV. We are on a DVC wait list.

Please enjoy the planning stages of your wedding. They go by so fast. And don't lose sight of the fact that your WEDDING DAY =the day you marry the person you love. Of course you want everything perfect...but your wedding...like marriage...will never be perfect. So enjoy it as the "first day of the rest of your lives" no matter what!

Thanks for all the advice! As of right now we are doing the ceremony and the reception at ADH. We might end up having too many guests to do the ceremony there--and then we'll do it at the BW convention center. Either way I am so excited! :flower: It's funny that you reminded me that no matter what may happen the important thing is that we'll be married at the end of the day--HE tells me that every day!! :love2: can you tell how stressed I appear to him? ;-)
Our honeymoon will be spent at the Beach Club Villas. There's essentially no "extra" cost for us to stay there and we don't need a car with the new Magical Express we don't even need a shuttle from the airport! So we are excited :Pinkbounc I don't think we are getting a video professionally done but we will have someone designated as camera man:)

I can't believe how much time I just spent reading this thread (drink in hand)!!!

I have always felt strange getting a beer in the parks at Disney (though it has never stopped me), like I am the only one drinking one, but the resorts and DTD are a different story. Because we usually go for day trips though, we haven't had too much of a chance to try too many places out at the resorts. We are going to have to try some of the suggestions here next time we go without DS, sounds like so much fun.

I just found this thread and I think it 's wonderful! I am a lot older than you guys, but I think drinking and eating around the world is the best. Three years ago, my husband and I got to take our first trip without kids. Our friends thought we were crazy, going to WDW, when we could go anywhere else. We had a blast. It was in May and hotter than normal. On the first day, a Saturday, we lasted 90 minutes in the heat and crowds at the MK and hopped the monorail to go to the Contemporary for an early lunch and for a beer, etc. Got back on the monorail and off at the GF where we stayed until 4 p.m. enjoying the liquid nourishment there. Then off to EPCOT! Our favs are the Rose and Crown and the champagne by the glass in France in one of the shops. There is nothing like watching Illuminations while drinking a glass of champagne and eating a fantastic pastry.

My last two trips I have met my daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters there. I plan my trips so that I arrive before they do and leave after they do (they are close enough to drive; I have to fly). I always begin and end my trips at Mizners at the GF. The CM there, Christa, is delightful and always recognizes me. I feel like she's a good friend.

Have a blast -- whatever you all do! It really is the best time. Staying on site, having so much available, and not having to worry about drinking and driving or how you are going to get home.

First of all, Welcome to the DIS and the thead :).

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/LOTW.jpg

We may be older than you think ;). I am often surpised at how older or younger someone is In Real Life (IRL) after "meeting" them on the DIS. I am even sometimes surprised when some one turns out to be a different gender. I can think or 3-4 people right off the top of my head, "Granny" over on the DIS boards, for instance, is a man.

I happen to be old enough to be a grandmother, but my 5 year old keeps me young :flower: . I am certain that some of my fellow high school graduates from the class of 1978 have grandchildren :).

Young or old, you're only as old as you feel. And, if you feel like having a drink at WDW you're welcome here!

Cool! I'm not the only one! I graduated in '76 but am traveling this summer with my ds (only18) for his graduation present from me. I'd like to do a little sampling around the world, but he's too young to join me. What to do... what to do? :scratchin

Well, I promised a review upon my return. I had the most marvelous time! I spent four days alone, and then my daughter flew in and we shared another four days in the Happiest Place on Earth (made even happier with a few well-placed beverages!)

Here's what I had:

* A wonderful glass of Pinot Noir at Spoodles with dinner;

* A sinfully wonderful milkshake with Baileys (and a glowing cube) at Sci Fi Diner;

* A couple of beers at Rainforest Cafe;

* A beer at Trails End (someone asked if they had beer - YES!);

*A pina colada at the Wilderness Lodge pool (way too sweet);

*A yummy Turtle Crawl at Olivias;

* 2 Bailey's/Amaretto coffees at the Comedy Warehouse (should have avoided the second coffee - I told an embarrassing story to the comics, which was made into a song!)

*A glass of sparkling wine at the Grand Floridian Tea;

* A Malibu MaCaw at 'Ohana's - pretty good, a bit sweet;

* A glass of red wine at Chefs de France;

* A Grandma's Picnic Punch at 50's Prime Time Diner;

* A couple of beers at Jellyrolls (I was disappointed to find that they serve no coffee - I was craving a coffee drink rather than a beer!);

* And, of course, I had a beer in each country (since I was taking it slow, it took me two days while I was alone, with one beer to finish when my daughter arrived).

Other highlights -

**I love the grounds at Pop Century. It was the first time I stayed in a value resort, and I really loved the energy. I spent six hours at the bowling pin pool one day.

**My daughter and I did the Segway tour. It was wonderful. I have done it once before with my husband, and they have improved it since then (which is hard to do, since we loved it then!)

**I got into the Hot Seat in Millionaire (sadly, right after the milkshake - I could have probably thought clearer without the shake). I missed on the 64,000 question - darn if it wasn't a chemistry question! I had to phone a complete stranger, and she had no idea either.

**Simply getting to spend three full days with my beautiful daughter in such a magical place. It was heaven!!!

Ah, back to work. Time to dream about another trip - I get to go to Disneyland in June, but it just isn't the same! I think I have 16 months til my next Disney World trip, unless something wonderful happens... :sad2:

Poohbear-Responded back to ya... :wave2:

Disneyaholic-Thanks for the trip report! I love the pool bar at WL! I have never done the segway tour but would love to...glad to hear it is even better! Did you like Spoodles? I ate there a few years ago and enjoyed it, but have heard mixed reviews lately. I have been hearing great things about POP century...I will have to give it a try one of these days!

Schweet-Looks like your DS will be sipping sodas while dear old YOU catches a buzz! LOL! Think of it as a chance to give him a lesson in drinking responsibly! :rotfl:

Miss Mouse-Honestly, I cannot give you good advice on how to get to AKL from the WL. You may have to get to a park and take a bus. When we stay at WL we always focus on the WL, FW, and the monorail resorts (we take the boat to GF and then have access to POLY or CR.) Even though we have a car with us, we try not to use it, and we also avoid buses if we can. On our next ttrip, if we stay at OKW we will focus on DTD and if we get BWV (we are on a wait list) we will focus on Epcot and the Boardwalk area. Please report back and let us know how you like Boma!

Grandmamouse-Welcome! I have fond memories of Mizner's...that is where I had my fist dirty martini...and that is now my "signature" drink!

Hello to Robin and Eeyore...and LOL, Bill!

That milkshake sounds amazing!!!! What was in teh turtle crawl and the malibu macaw?

The milkshake was nummy (but really small, for $9.95).

Turtle Krawl - Coconut Rum, Spiced Rum and two White Rums, with Pineapple, Orange and Key Lime Juices $7.75

Malibu Macaw - Malibu rum, melon liqueur blended with fresh pineapple and cranberry juices $7.75

I went to Spoodles twice on this trip; however, don't take that as a sign of particular special enjoyment. I went once for dinner (not my favorite) and once for breakfast (loved it! They have a breakfast pizza on whole wheat crust that is, in my humble opinion, to die for!)

I just realized that I didn't indulge in a drink at Petals bar at Pop - what was I thinking???

Codie and Disneyholic-Ok, crossing Spoodles off my list. It is between Flying Fish, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Kimono's, Portabellos (we ate there once, it was pretty good, but I try not to repeat restaurants if I can help it or unless the restaurant is phenomenal. We feel that way about Boma and Jiko.)

Honestly, I cannot truly plan until I know for sure if we are staying at OKW or BWV. If we stay at BWV I am sure we will be eating in the world showcase...and drinking too!

Definitely want to try FRESH for breakfast, I keep hearing great things! :Pinkbounc

I have eaten at Yachtsman Steakhouse - VERY good. One of my favorites, if you like steak. Flying Fish is better for seafood.

I've eaten at Portabellos for lunch, and thought it was good; however, we don't do much pasta anymore, so found the menu more limiting.

FRESH is delicious! We really enjoyed it last February, just after it opened. Hopefully, it will only be better!

I've ALMOST eaten at every restaurant except for a few resort restaurants. I'm trying to get them in now. My husband is a picky eater, so sometimes it is hard to find places he likes. He says nothing at Disney World is exceptional - I disagree. I think I enjoy eating almost as much as I enjoy drinking! :rolleyes1

I know, I know... I leave for a while, then come back, then disappear... you get the picture. I'm sorry I've been away. I've been totally swamped with work (did I mention I'm an accountant? and though I don't do taxes, my clients still need their books closed so they could file tax returns).

Anyway, I did manage to go to WDW for a few days during Spring Break. We ate at Akershus and, well, it was fabulous. DH says it's now his favorite restaurant. We drank Grolsch; a bit too bitter for me but very crisp. DH loved it. We stayed at ASM and liked it, but I prefer Pop.

We're going back for Mother's Day weekend (what better present for moi??) and staying at the Poly. I stayed there way back when there were only 2 resorts on property... yep, the 70's.... and I'm trying to figure out where to have dinner on Mother's Day. Any suggestions?

A member of the Class of '75 here! 30 years ago...

My son (22 yo) was with us in January for the first time since he reached legal drinking age. We had promised drinking around the world but that never happened for some reason. However, we took him to Jellyrolls one night along with my 25 yo niece. They loved it! DH and I left around midnight. We paid the tab at that point which was well in excess of $100.00 and told the young ones they were on their own. They planned to take a taxi back to OKW. DH and I walked the Boardwalk, sat and watched the lake, then I sat by the pool while DH played in the arcade.

The kids stayed at Jellyrolls until it closed for the night, a little before 2am. They said they didn't have to pay for many drinks. There was a large group of businessmen who had taken up most of the tables in front of them. They kept getting Ben and Caroline drinks when they were ordering their own. The kids were surprised when we were still there to give them a ride home. I played designated driver with only one drink when we first got there (a 32 oz Sex on the Beach!). Gotta love valet parking that late at night!

It was fun taking Ben to some of the places he has heard us rave about. I wish Howl at the Moon was still open as we found that even more fun than Jellyrolls. We also had some drinks with him one afternoon at Margaritaville, and dinner and drinks at Pat O'Briens, both at City Walk. We got a chance to see what that college education has done for him -- made him quite the party animal!

Cristy!!!! Welcome back! I was just wondering about you...where you went and what you are up to these days! I am SO GLAD to hear a favorable review of Akershus. Were the princesses there? DH and I ate there about a year ago and absolutely LOVED it...they had the cold salad bar with all sorts of meats and pickled things...then you could order as many items off the menu as you wanted, one at a time. When I heard it was going to be all character meals, I was so disappointed. So tell me a little more about your experience there.

dvc member-That is a cute story! I can't wait til my little girl graduates college and I can take her out for happy hour or something like that. I still have not been to Jellyrolls but I keep hearing so many good things, I need to check it out.

Hi all, we'll be at OKW 4/22 for 8 nites. DW, myself, and 4 18yo boys. Any recs for drinks or a possible drinking "route" in this area? Hi nj! We will just miss each other, as we are checking into OKW on May 1st!

This is my first stay at this location, so i really am not to familiar with it. I know there is a cute bar at the resort called "The Gurgling Suitcase" that I plan to have at least one drink at. Other than that, I guess you best bet is to do the monorail drinkathon, or go to the World Showcase and drink around the World there.

Let us know , whatever you decide to do!

ETA: DUH! I just remembered...you may want to take the boat from OKW to Downtown Disney! You can go to Pleasure Island, or have drinks around DTD. Just make sure to find out what time the boat runs at night...don't want to get stuck there! LOL!

WLL,
It was not a character meal. I think they started a few days after we went. I tried almost everything in their cold buffet and loved it. My dd7 LOVED the smoked peppered mackerel (go figure! I was, like, HUH????). I think we tried almost everything in the menu. The salmon was fabulous. My DH had the venison and braised lamb and liked it, but I'm not into gamey meat. The poached cod was dreamy and the horseradish mashed potatoes were great (and I don't even like horseradish!). I also tried the pasta, but I shouldn't have.... it was obviously in the menu to satisfy finicky diners who don't like to experiment... it was bland, bland, bland. Oh, and I almost forgot! The meatballs!!!!! yummy! For dessert, I had the lingonberry tart... all I can say is... wow... it was great. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and would gladly return.

Poohbear,
I was thinking Germany too! Let me know what you decide... maybe we can actually meet!

Thanks Cristy...then you had the same experience we had. I absolutely LOVED all the things you mentioned. Now I want to know if it is worth it to go back. I want to know if the menu has changed a lot...guess I need to do a search on the boards.

We did a mini "Drink around the Vacation Clubs" last October, starting at the Gurgling Suitcase at OKW. We were the only ones there. The bartender made some great drink recommendations and it was fun to look at all the memoribila on the walls. We then took the water taxi to the Saratoga Springs resort. We sat at a table by the On the Rocks pool bar for a couple, then moved inside to The Turf Club bar. Again, we were the only ones there. It is such a beautiful room and sooo relaxing. The bartender here had a list of drinks that they were getting ready to switch over to. I selected one off the list which turned out to be basically Sex on the Beach with a different name. This was my husband's first time to SSR so we explored the entire resort as well.

That is all bars we hit that day, but you could then walk (stagger?) or take the boat to Downtown Disney and continue! Have a wonderful time!

Well as much as I'd love to join the 'monorail drink-a-thon' I guess we'll just have to have our own drink-a-thon at Epcot. I can see it now:

First waltz to Canada and grab a ice cold beer, then hop over to England for half a yard of their finest, bounce over to France and check out their wines, stroll over to Japan and toss back a couple of Sake's, wander down to the good ole USA and have some of our domestic product, walk a little slower over to Italy for some of their wonderful selections, weave to Germany where I already know the beer servers by name, stumble over to Norway for some beer by a name I can't pronounce, crawl to Mexico for a margarita...and repeat :):)

Ahhhh...life is good ;);)
