We head down Thursday for the Drinking around the World, and I am resting up!! :drinking1
Anyone have a favorite "beverage" from the Food and Wine Festival??

robinb- I'm the blonde one, I think i'm wearing a pink tank top in Epcot. Dont you just love DVC? I'm extremely excited for the new pool to open at OKW! I saw some darwings of it and it looks just amazing!!
Disney transportation is extremely great. You always have a DD!!
THe last buses out of PI are INSANE! I've been on them a few times and the people are just crazy! One time as we were leaving we met some guys from Ireland who were so excited they jumped in the fountain on the way to the buses. Well as you can imagine this then started a new fad and everyone was jumping in the fountains. I imagine it made for an incredibly cold ride home.
I realize that this is "treason" but i was wondering if anyone had been to citywalk and if they could give me a comparison to PI?

Pixie, it's not treason... how do we confirm WDW is the best in the world if we do not try others? I was a Universal & Sea World passholder and when I started my business this year, guess which passes were not renewed and which were??? yep, WDW (the most expensive one) was renewed for the 3 of us.... the other 2 were allowed to expire without renewal (except Sea World for my DD7... my parents live 5 minutes from the park so I bought them and Cristy annual passes and now they go together while DH & I enjoy quality time at the Disney parks!).
Anyway, I've visited CityWalk a few times and can give you my opinion. CityWalk is a fun place, however, I feel is too spread out... I happen to like the layout at PI because it feels smaller and more intimate. You have to pay a cover to go into each club or you can buy a pass that lets you enter all of them. I can't give you opinions on all of them because, frankly, I've only visited the Latin Quarter. Usually, we go to PI for dancing, but when we're in the mood for latin music, CityWalk is the only place we can go (but I heard they closed it..darn). Unfortunately, PI doesn't have a latin club... and no, Bongo's doesn't count...
The one thing I hate about CityWalk is the parking. Let me tell ya, at 2:00 am in the morning, after dancing all night, the LAST thing you want is to schlep back to your car at Universal.... Even with the moving sidewalks, it's a killer... I prefer the madness of finding parking at DTD than parking at Universal...
If you want a change of pace from PI, give CityWalk a try.
pixiedust23
11-01-2004, 01:19 PM
Yes I went there once for dinner and I vividly remember the awful walk back to parking. But I was looking for a club comparison. As a 22 year old. I've only found a few of the clubs and PI enjoyable and was thinking it might be a different situation at Citywalk.

All I could think of was my lovely LOTW :drinking1 and how I was extremely glad I had found my people before fearing for my life and retreating from the dis boards forever! :scared:
BTW Lynn I am extremely jealous of you!!!

I agree WLL. Is our very own LOTW member Cantw8 doing us proud @ the world now? I have to wait until late June to go back. My friend is leaving tomorrow. I'm so jealous.

11-04-2004, 03:33 PM
Cantw8 is there now and I'm pretty sure making us very proud. Man am I jealous!!! Hopefully we'll get a full LOTW trip report!

Hey, can someone help me?
I started this thread and I need to add my Official LOTW and drinky guys to my e-mails.
How do I do that?
I certainly don't want to be left out!!:drinking1
Wow! We got kicked out! Something we said? J/K Mods.
I'd sing the theme song from the Jefferson's but most of you are too young to know who I'm talking about.
Looks like you figured it out lynn
lynn71092
11-04-2004, 04:52 PM
So you have to add the little drinky guys and Proud to be a LOTW on every e-mail?
Oh sorry lynn,
Let's see if I can help you real quick before my commute home. You need to go to user cp (at the top of this page, then go to edit profile, then signature and add drinky guy Proud to be a LOTW drinky guy.
hth, if not I'm sure one of the other lushes will be around soon,

Too funny. This thread has gotten huge!
Has anyone told any Adenturers Club stories yet?
The characters in here are so funny and later in the evening they get so naughty too.
My husband usually gets picked to go up on stage and usually ends up taking off some article of clothing while he's on it.
Lets just say he loves to be the center of attention and after a few Kungalooshes why not?!
We are going to Citywalk for the first time next month and can't wait.

You know, I had planned on going to the Adventurers Club for my birthday... right after dinner at Ohana's and my Wishes cruise. Of course, everything but dinner was cancelled when Hurricane Jeanne decided to pay us a visit. Then, I figured I would go the weekend we went for F&W and MNSSHP... but ended up at ESPN to watch the Red Sox/Cards game after F&W. I hear that place is lots of fun... especially after a few drinks... maybe next time... I'm visiting my parents for Thanksgiving weekend (15 min away from WDW).... hmmm... maybe DH and I can make an escape....
lynn71092

OK, I got the Proud to be LOTW in but I can't get the drinky guys in.
What am I doing wrong???????

Lynn-I wish I could help you, but I am extremely computer impaired. I got lucky and figured it our thanks to some other lushes. if you look at previous posts on this thread there is a "how to" guide.
Mac-What do you mean? I got to this thread via my email notification. They moved the thread?
Oh, and of course I know "Movin on up....to the east side...to a deeeee luxe apartment...in the sky hi hi...."

Maybe they will just keep bumping our thread from one forum to another and we will become known as the "elusive LOTW Club" that no one can ever find!
As for the adventurers club, I went there once, but we were looking more for a club scene. The place was virtually empty and the "members" were not extremely amusing (perhaps this was b/c of the night, lack of guests, or the mood my group was in). When we go to PI we would spend most of our night at the newer club all the way at the end (cant think of the name but they play pop music) and the beach/surf club. We couldnt go into any 21 only places b/c we had a 20-year old with us at the time.

I thought I was the only old fogie of all the LOTW's, you know the old lady sitting at the bar smoking (except I don't smoke anymore). Didn't think anyone else would know the song? :o
Oh, Mac...I see what you mean now...we are in "Theme Park Attractions and Strategies!" Funny, cuz I NEVER go to this board. And yet here I am!
Is that kind of like "Toto I don't think we're in Kansas anymore?" :teeth:
I like the idea of being the elusive LOTW's.
Adding my 2 cents, I have never been to the Adventurers Club and probably won't because my DH would never go to a place where he could be pulled up on stage to be embarrassed.
The 1st time we went to Prime Time he offered me up like the sacrificial lamb to our waiter. Still waiting for revenge.

I might be a youngen, but who doesnt know "were movin on up...to the east side...to a deluxe apartment in the sky"?!?! It's classic tv! Ok well maybe I haven't seen the show, but I def know the song and I think someone may have done a re-make of it. But the original song was def on our "pong party mix" at my apartment when I was in college!

OK, here goes, I think I did it.
ctrabada, can your parents adopt me so I can stay there too?
I'll bring my own beer and I don't eat very much. I'll also bring my own Disney decorations for my room. Or if they want me to pitch a tent in the backyward, that would be okay too.
(They don't live near any alligators do they?)

OK, y'all are making me jealous now (and thirsty ... it's Friday after all..)!! I've only been to WDW twice, both times without kids, but I didn't get to drink all the cool stuff you guys did! First time was with DH back in 1998 and I'm sure he stuck to boring old beer (sorry beer lovers) and I probably drank wine with my dinners. But we didn't do many bars - probably because it was our first trip there and we needed to get through all the rides and shows!
Second time was a few weeks ago when I went with girlfriends. These girls don't really drink much (a glass of wine on a special occasion only), so I was the only one sampling wine at F & W, and the only one who tried a margarita in Mexico! As for going to bars, forget it ... we were so pooped by the end of the day (I was with 2 newbies, so again had to do everything in the parks), all we wanted to do was get in the car and drive home (it was a 40 min drive each time to our friend's place). So, been to WDW twice and never been to PI or Boardwalk!
Next trip is around 2007, and I'm really hoping my parents will come too so that DH and I can venture out without the kiddos a couple of nights and really have some fun. Having said that, 3 or 4 drinks will knock me flat, so it'll be tame fun compared to you lot!
Cheers!

I did it!!
I'm official now!!
Woo-hoo!!!!
I guess we do actually belong here, it is a strategy after all! Choosing where to drink on each trip.
Welome bajanswife, I've been to your island it is a beautiful place! One of the prettiest islands I've ever been to.
Congrats lynn!

I have a question, not necessarily Disney related but I though my LOTW might be able to assist. I'm looking to drop about 10 lbs, but I refuse to give up my lush-ness. Any lo-cal drink ideas? I'm not really a beer fan, but if it had less calories than alcohol or wine I could deal.
Also the another night I had an amazing martini (vodka, passion fruit juice, and peach juice) which I highly reccomend that you all try! :bounce:
Good Luck PD23. It's a battle I'm fighting myself. I think wine & things like whiskey actually have less calories than beer anyway.
But I think you need to stay away from the stuff your mixing with it. I think you need to use diet soda's instead of fruit drinks/lemon mix ect....

To keep it low-cal:
Be wary of beer. Regular beer is about 200cal for 12oz. Guiness is your best bet for low-cal beer. And stay away from thos malted drinks like zima or coolers
Wine is pretty good. It's about 65cal for a standard 4oz red wine
Liquor is good with vodka being the best. 60cal for 1oz. The problems with liquor. Don't drink the creamy stuff. Something like Bailey's or amaretto can be 160-240cal for 1oz. Be careful about what you put in your liquor. Fruit juices are sugary, and can turn a nice lo-cal vodka into a diet buster. Juice is usually around 100cal for 8oz
You could also just drink enough so you throw it all up later. Although I've heard that doen't help you lose weight.

I like getting "hammer-hawked" with the best of them, but I don't get to Disney World enough to want to be drunk when I'm there. I'm trying to stay up and take in as much as possible during my trip. Sure a beer here and there, but if I'm not coherent, I'll forget my trip! I get greased at home when I'm wishing I was at Disney :-)

Gauisrex-Hmmm, I thought Guiness was "super high" in calories. I need to check that out, cuz my DH loves it but I remember hearing how many calories it had so now he stays away.
PD-I also fight the battle. I do like Capt Morgan rum with club soda and extra lime!
Also, dirty martinis are a good bet!
Mac-We are not THAT old...I am 36..how old are you? If you do not mind me asking! :)
pixiedust23
11-05-2004, 01:51 PM
Vodka is actually my drink of choice so I guess that works out nicely. However I usually put it in juice, which is i guess bad. I'm just not so sure of how vodka would taste in ginger ale or 7-up or something like that.

Just jumping in here....instead of the fruit juice, you might want to try mixing the vodka with freshly squeezed lemons and sugar for sweetening (aka lemon-drop martini). Even with the sugar it still has less calories than fruit juice or mixes - one teaspoon of sugar is only 4 grams and 15 calories. :D

Hi everyone. So nice to see this thread suddenly appear on the board. My DH and I are right there with all of you. Every trip to the World must include what I like to call Drunken Band Day. We spend the entire afternoon bouncing back and forth between Off Kilter and British Invasion Shows, accompanied by frosty-cold beers from our host countries. DBD is now our favorite day at the World!:D We're not actually drunk, of course...just very happy!

For those of you trying to keep the calories (and carbs) down, you may want to try Vodka and club soda with a squeeze of lemon or lime. That's my drink of choice!! It's VERY refreshing!
Great thread!!!
Okay, I think you guys may be the ones to ask this question....Disney Quest, do they serve drinks there? My friend and I are taking our kids there as part of our trip (I've never been to DQ) and I was thinking that after having fun, my friend and I may just want to sit and relax with a drink while the kids play over and over and over.....
Thanks! Kim

I dont recall there being a place to get alcohol at DQ, but I was only there for a short period of time on one occasion so I could be wrong. BUT...you are right near many of the restaurants on the WestSide, PI, DTD, etc that do have liquor. Maybe they'll let you "take it to go" which some park restaurants allow...not sure what the open container laws in FL are.
But to all the newbies: Welcome to the Lushes of the World Board!:wave2:

As long as you stick with the Guiness Pub Draft stuff, it should be 125cal for 12 oz which is pretty good for real beer.
Luvmyfam3,
PD is right according to Deb Wills site here's all that are listed for drinks in DQ.
Beverages
Coke, Sprite, Diet Coke, Root Beer, Iced Tea $1.50/$1.75/$1.95/$2.75*
*Souvenir Cup refills $1.00
Coffee and Brewed Decaffeinated $1.50/$1.75
Hot Herbal and Black Teas $1.50
Fresh Lemonade or Orange Juice $2.50/$2.95/$3.50
Bottled Beverages $2.95
Bottled Water $2.50

Good to know before the fact!
underdesea- Just love your DBD tradition.
Hi everyone, Welcome!

Another suggestion for a "diet" drink... one of my favorites is vanilla flavored vodka (Absolut or Stoli or whatever) and Diet Coke. As long as you're used to drinking diet soda it's the best! Tastes just like a vanilla soda.
wildernesslodgelover
11-06-2004, 08:36 AM
Gaiusrex-My DH was very happy to hear that! I just told him and confirmed it for him by looking it up last night on a beer website. He was alwasy told Guiness has the most calories and the least alcohol. It looks like it has about the same calories...and about the same alcohol content! I think he will be ordering it more often now!
Yeah, the vanilla vodka/diet coke suggestion is a good one! Yum!

Lynn, it's funny, but my parents have been adopting my friends for several years now... lol... you know in Star Trek with the Borg: "resistance is futile" ... so I have "assimilated" most of my friends into Disney fans.... what can I say.... I have a gift... :earsgirl:
So I keep bringing them over to their place... between my father's cooking (and good wine), my mother's hospitality and our Disney enthusiasm, we win them over every time!
Now, when my DH and I announce we're going to Disney, our friends are the ones to ask us if they can come too! I especially like when we come to F&W and leave DD at my parents.... I only get "adults" night out when I go to Orlando.... (not that we don't love spending time at the parks with her... but DH and I need our time together too :smooth: )

MAC3, just run around with me, I can find something to laugh about all the time. No need to wait until next week.
I have a feeling that if I take the right pictures I just might finally get tagged by the TF. I sincerely cannot believe that I have not written anything silly enough to have not caught their attention. On the other hand, they might be afraid of engaging what might seem to be a very disturbed person. (grin)

Hello everyone! Just checking in after I changed my signature once again to include the LOTW logo :).
I'm planning my NYE trip to WDW. The only problem is that we're going to the MK on NYE. No alcohol! But ... we're staying at the AKL which has my one of my favorite bars on property, the Victoria Falls Mezzanine Lounge. They make a mean martini there :). I also love the AKL pool bar. I had an awesome red-white-and-blue frozen slushie drink there one hot July day.
What are your favorite resort bars and why?
OK Robin now I'm confused (What's a LEDC?) Congrats on the NYE vacation.
I can only dream, too close to Christmas and I'm not organized enough to pull it off. We are goin tubing in NH (yeah that's sort of close) NOT!
Anyway, my favorite bar is the Gurgling Suitcase @ OKW, I think because of the atmosphere. I really feel like I'm sitting somewhere in the Carribean (well if they could make that water a bit bluer)? It's small but cute and the bartenders are great!

robinb-Your post is PERFECT TIMING for me cuz I will be sitting at that VF lounge on Saturday night (the 20th) drinking martinis. I am SO looking forward to it!
So far, my favorite lounge is still Territory Lounge at my beloved WL. It is so cozy. I like it for the same reason Mac like the one at OKW...cuz I feel transported to a cozy lodge in the pacific northwest.
Mac-I have never been to OKW before...never even set foot on the property! I am going to have to check it out. I just made resses for the second weekend in January for a birthday trip for my DD. We could only get resses at that ASM which I am a little disappointed in. Anyway, the CM did have a studio in OKW for $169 a night which I was considering. Have you stayed there before? I just feel like, as a native floridian, I would rather stay at a resort with a different theming. I have that tropical theming every day! Which I am not complaining about, BTW!
Hello SG! hey, what is "tagged by the TF?" I have heard being "tagged" mentioned on these boards before and I am not sure as to what it is in reference to. Thanks!
pixiedust23
11-08-2004, 08:01 AM
"Tagged by the TF" means that a tag fairy went ahead and put that in SG's profile. Tag Fairys are responsible for all the tags that are in color.
As for the low cal drinking, when I went out on Sat night I was diong well for about one drink. :drinking: Had the vanilla diet coke, but then I couldnt take it anymore. So I ended up with cranbery and vodka, a chocolate cake shot, and some shots of goldschlager...YUM! O well I guess we can't be good all the time...plus I'd rather have fun then be super slim! :bounce:

Ahhh, PD23.... you just reminded me about one of my favorite drinks (aside from beer, of course).... vodka, cranberry juice and a splash of orange juice. I know it has a name, but I forgot..... yummy....
I really haven't visited any of the resort bars because we usually stay with DD, so we don't indulge when we are with her. That's why F&W is such a big event for us... we ask Mom & Dad to take care of her and just drink away.... And our trips to Disney are usually short, a weekend here and there and about 5 nights in Sept for my birthday, so we really don't stay long enough to "settle in"... But I will definitely try the Monorail Drink-A-Thon when we go in Thanksgiving... except then I'll have to drive home to my parents.... hmmm... maybe I should try to make a ressie during Christimas... (yea like I'm going to find an AP rate if I call now...).
robinb
11-08-2004, 08:52 AM
MAC3,
I also like the Gurgling Suitcase, but I think it's a little small. Almost an afterthought. I do love the pictures of other DVC'ers on the walls and you're right, the bartenders are very nice. LEDC = "Liberal Elite Drinking Club" :).
WLL,
We love OKW! It's such a relaxing resort. The studios are 376 square feet and have 2 double beds and a wet bar which has a sink, a microwave, a toaster and a refrigerator. There is a small porch with 2 chairs and a small table. It's a condo-type resort and you can park right in front of your unit. The disadavntage of OKW is that it's pretty spread out.

Ive stayed at OKW as well. I really do love it. It's more of a Key West theme, then just a Florida/tropical theme. Plus they are putting in a new slide at the pool, which looks amazing. Might be one of the best at WDW. Being DVC we only stay in studios now and I love the convenience of the mini fridge and the toaster/microwave too! It's jsut so great. Esp when you go out to eat you know youre not going be able to ever eat a full meal, they are just so large so you can bring it back to your room, put in the fridge and reheat when youre hungry! This was huge for us, being 3 girls in early 20's (it really helps to save money). It makes it worth going to an expensive restaurant b/c you can get two meals out of it.
As for my favorite drink at a resort, they made an incredible vanilla mudslide at the BC. THAT is by far my favorite drink ever. Its your basic mudslide with vanilla vodka in it. SOOO GOOD!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:
robin- I agree the gurgling suitcase is way too small (now is the perfect time to make it a bit bigger) but not much because if they made it too big it would take away from the island type theming.
WLL- You may be a tad disappointed in theming because of where you live, but to tell you the truth I loved the WL and that's about all we see around here is Pine trees (not to mention we are campers to....) Give it a whirl and see what you think.
As robin says it is sooo relaxing you'd forget you are on Disney Property (if it wasn't for Disney buses coming & going) I think that says alot for a resort and if that doesn't get you the size of the units will. But wait until they finish building the slide.
We usually get a 2 Bdrm (then ask friends or family to join us). They are the largest on property. The condo atmosphere is awesome too you truly feel like you own your own place there.
I've never heard anyone report that they were disappointed with it.

I'll have to print this thread and take it on our Jan. trip. We've done the Epcot 'Drinks Around the World' thing and we usually hit the Poly at least once when leaving MK for another park, but the Monorail Drink-a-Thon sounds like a must-do, probably some night before the fireworks.

PD-Thanks for the TF explanation! And boy did you have fun! I do not know HOW you can mix all that stuff and not get sick!
Thanks to all for the info on OKW. It sounds like something I will want to try....although I do like walking through a lobby to get to the rooms. I have actually resigned myself to stay at ASM in January cuz I am thinking about all the $$ we will save, although I really want to try FQ one day. But all the moderates are booked (at least for FL res rates! :( ) The January trip is a short one and really ALL ABOUT my DD, since it is her Bday trip. This trip coming up at AKL is gonna be the REALLY FUN trip!!! MONEY is NO OBJECT that weekend! LOL! I am exaggerating just a wee bit! LOL!

Add another vote for the Gurgling Suitcase as a favorite resort bar--although my DH and I are biased, since we own at OKW. But the bartenders there really are the best. We really feel like we've come home to the World when we check in, drop off our stuff, and then settle in at the Suitcase for a Welcome Back beverage. It's so relaxing, and really gets us into the Disney spirit. It's also a nice way to end a day of park-hopping. Our license plates are even hanging above the door...
We also enjoy the Territory Lounge, but haven't made it over there the last few trips. It does have a great, cozy, transporting feeling.
Sigh...now I'm wishing I was at the World right now...

OK, I'm stumped. What's LOTW? I figured when Gaiusrex called me that, it had to be something good, but it's Monday and I can't decipher it.
Bill From PA
Hi Bill
LOTW= Lushes of the World.
A Self proclaimed title we all gave ourselves. I think you'd fit comfortably in this club. I remember the picture of you standing at the bar in England that was in your siggie before and well now your siggie has you with a refreshing beverage too.
Yes Yes I think you belong here.

11-08-2004, 06:25 PM
Oh yes, Bill...do join us. I can tell by your picture you will have a lot to add to our conversations!!!
Ok, guys...ya got me dying to check out OKW! Are the restaurants any good there? It is just a resort I do not hear much about, so I never considered it. I love a place with friendly bartenders.
I am sipping a cab sav as I type..but I am recuperating from a rough weekend. There is Hard Rock Hotel and Casino nearby and I LOVE going to the bar there! And ya wanna know why? I kinda feel like I am at Disney there! I guess it truly is more like a Universal type resort...but I definitely feel like I am in Orlando on vacation! I had several Capt Morgan and club sodas there!

Excellent, kindred spirits! (pun intended) Perhaps someone can recommend an early afternoon pit stop in AK. We usually bolt out of there around noon after a snack at Pizzafari. We're eager to try something a little more upscale with choices other than Bud.

WLL, I love the bar at the Hard Rock too!
Robin, you were right! I got an AP rate for the WL from 12/25-12/28... WOO HOO!!!! my 4th trip to WDW this year!
We are soooo excited... and it's perfect.... I will do my Monorail Drink-a-thon starting and ending at WL.... ahhhh....
Now I need to figure out where to have Christmas dinner.... usually my father cooks but I want to take my whole family out for dinner and save him the work.... it would be a really nice treat for them since they are so wonderful and, being retired, cannot afford to go out to eat at fancy restaurants... for my birthday, I invited them all to Ohana's and we had a terrific time (even with Hurricane Jeanne almost on top of us... a nice bottle of wine took care of the worries... plus DH and I had beer waiting in our room ;) ).
WLL, since you love the WL so much, do you recommend Artist Point? I'm not sure I would want Whispering Canyon for Christmas Dinner....
robinb
11-08-2004, 07:04 PM
ctrabada:I knew you could :). I had Christmas dinner at Chef Mickey's one year. It was a blast and they had Lobster Bisque as one of the soups as well as other special offerings. I think Artist Point would be a more "reserved" dinner, if that's what you're looking for. Here's a list of Christmas dinner ideas from All Ears: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/men_christmas.htm
pixiedust23:The Grand Villas at OKW are awesome! We stayed in one last New Year's Eve with another family. There were only 7 of us in a unit bigger than our house!
wildernesslodgelover: I'm not wild about Oliva's at OKW. It's just okay, IMO. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.
Bill From PA: The Dawa Bar over in Africa is the place to go for a nice drink. I like their rum-runner type drinks there.

cristy-I cannot believe you are going at Christmastime! yay for you! I must say, I do NOT recommend Artist Point. That said, I must say I have only been there once and since we were not impressed we have not been back. Since then, however, I have read so many great reviews of the place that we may give it another try. I just felt that for the money we spent, the food was average. Now, again, before I get flamed by anyone, I realize the place may have been having an off night. But I also did not find the atmosphere very cozy. then again, we were sitting right where you first enter the restaurant. Maybe we should have asked for a table in the interior of the restaurant.
I have said this many times on the board...I think the one weakness of WL are the restaurants. I do not care for WC, either. But boy, do I love that TL! Heehee!
Have a great time!
robinb-yeah, I gotta say I have not heard Olivia's even mentioned very often.
Bill-I have heard others on this thread mention the Dawa bar robin mentioned, so that must be the place to go!

I really do enjoy Artist's Point. WLL I think you might have just had a bad experience. My parents love it so much that they go out of their way to eat there every time they are in the world! I actually think this would be a great place for Christmas dinner b/c it has that wintry lodge feel. However that being said I'm sure it will book up quickly!
Have we lost our good friend AHHHHHHHH? Or is he perhaps currently in the world proposing?

My husband and I have recovered from the intense Animal Kingdom heat many times at the Dawa. We've found the bartenders to be VERY friendly!
However, I didn't know one could watch the parade from the bar. How long should I arrive ahead to get a seat? (Not that passing time is a problem!) Is the view good from the bar seats? I am going at Christmastime this year (we were supposed to be there THIS WEEK for Food and Wine, but had to cancel last minute - my son got called to Iraq, and was leaving while we would have been in the World). It looks like they have transferred the Christmas parade to Animal Kingdom, so I really want a good view.

wildernesslodgelover: I was also going to say that I didn't like Artist Point, but I am in a very small minority so I kept my mouth shut (I know, hard to believe ;). It comes up as people's favorite again and again. We went twice, had the signature dish of planked salmon and came to the same conclusion you did. Not worth the money. A place that I thought was worth the money was Narcoosee's over at the GF. We tried it for for the first time in August and loved it. Plus, if you time it right you can view the MK fireworks from the deck with the drink of your choice.
DisneyaHolic23: I'm sorry to hear about your son . I hope he stays safe. I just went to Disney's web site and it still shows Mickey's Jungle Jammin Parade for Christmas week. I'm not sure the bar would be the best place to watch the parade because of all the people standing in front of you. You can always grab a cocktail and walk with it :).

We ate at Citricos at GF and absolutely loved it. That and Jiko are tied as our favorite restaurants (so far) at WDW.
Disneyholic-Tell your son I say "Thanks" for what he is doing! :)

Have a great time! Hmm ... good point about liquor and boats. We were planning to start and end at the WL because we can park there easily. Maybe we'll start at the CR instead. We can walk there from the MK busses or get a 2 hour parking pass. I think we'll start at CR, boat to WL, boat back or maybe take the bus to the TTC, walk/monorail to the Polynesian and end up at the GF.
Why don't you get a drink at Narcoossee's? You can take you drink out on the balcony and watch the castle change colors or see the fireworks if you time it right. Just make sure you don't stand in front of someone who's eating inside. We had some very rude people block our view of the FW and they were not even guests of the restaurant!

Cantw8, those fiesta margaritas are awesome! That was our last drink at the F&W and it capped the whole event quite nicely.;)
My only plans for Dec right now are: dinner at Boma's on 12/25, Monorail-drink-a-thon (haven't decided what day) and just enjoy the Xmas decorations around the world... I know the parks will be packed so I don't plan on doing many rides... just walk and enjoy the decorations and ambiance...

See we've all found a home. Or maybe we can call it a halfway house.
Welcome back Cantw8. You trip sounds like it was a blast! Did you happen to run into a group of 4 drunks from Massachusetts in your travels anywhere? My friend is down there right now with her HS friends.

Hey, it's great to hear of everyone's trips and live vicariously through your fun! My DH and I were just discussing the Cat Walk Bar the other day. Does anyone remember this? It was a cool little bar upstairs from the Brown Derby at MGM. We always stopped there for a break from the crowds, and the bartenders were the best. Plus they had a great beer selection--that's where I was introduced to the Unibroue family--ahh, La Fin du Monde and Blanche de Chambly--two of my favorites. And we can't get them in our state. I really miss the Catwalk...

Unfortunately, I heard about it a little too late! So sad. I hope they reopen it eventually. It sounded like a great place to take a breather.
Unibroue Family? :rotfl: Is that pronounced UNIBROW? I've never heard of them. I'll have to look to see if they sell that around here and try it.

MAC3: Unibroue is a Canadian-based brewery. Their beers have high alcohol contents (for beer), but they are *so* good. I think they sell several types at the Canadian pavilion. I saw on another thread that they serve them in the restaurant and, at least during Food and Wine, at the Beavertail cart. Definitely check them out if you can find them in your area--yumm!
Boy, I'm such a freshman for someone my age!
Thanks underdesea for that explanation. Looks like DH & I have some catching up to do!

Woo Hoo!! I'm *HOME*!!!!
Our last WDW trip for awhile (since PAP's expire in Dec.) is coming up quickly, so might be a year or two before we go back. I wasn't all that excited about it since this will be our 4th trip this year, but now I'm looking forward to ending our marathon Disney year with a big *bang*!:drinking1

Hi neighbor! (well, sort of!)
Twins + singles= twingles
I have one set of twins (b/g), and 3 singles (g/b/b). But at the time I joined this board, I only had 2 singles, so total of 4 kids. I've since had the 5th child, so I really *should* change it to "momtotwinglesx5. But I'm too lazy.
Clear as mud?

Ok, so here's my plan for a monorail drinkathon with dh. Tell me if you have any better ideas:
1. Bribe dd16 to stay at hotel (Contemporary) with ds2. Provide them with food.
2. Take 3 middle kids (ds8, dd8, & ds4) via monorail to Poly and deposit at Neverland Club.
3. Proceed to Poly bar for :drinking1
4. Monorail to GF lounge for :drinking1
5. Monorail to MK--catch boat to WL. Dinner at Artist Point and :drinking1
6. Boat to Contemporary--(do NOT go to room!)--go to Outer Rim lounge (or Cali Grille lounge?) for :drinking1
7. Monorail to Poly for :drinking1 and then pick up kids at Neverland Club.
8. Monorail back to Contemporary. Put children to bed and go to sleep!

I think dinner at the Polyn's 'Ohana might be more fun.
but yes Artist Point is very romantic.
if you want to - take a walk along the beach between the GF and Polyn.
try to arrange your drinking schedule to be at the Polyn when the fireworks are going off at the MK - yes I know you are staying at the Cont - but I like the fireworks from the beach at the Polyn.
boy 5 drinks in one night - you are a very STRONG woman - plus 5 kids.....are you are staying in one room - or did you get two?
momtotwinglesx4
11-12-2004, 01:13 PM
Gaiusrex -- I know, I thought about that. But I'm thinking that might be a *good* thing, lol.
spiceycat -- no, we needed two rooms for our family size. Five drinks are too many? Hmmm, I was thinking it might not be *enough*!

Hi all...was away doing crazy life stuff...I REALLY need to board the monorail D-A-T today as it looks like our long awaited Christmas/first Holiday to ourselves no In-Laws allowed/trip is in serious jeapordy. DH got word on his department RIF...thought we were safe, but it is not to be. I can't even fathom telling the kids. I am hopeful we will still make it, but the I refuse to say the "C" WORD...(CANCEL, THAT IS) Postpone is the way I am dealing with it..but I have such awesome rates for WL/Dolphin...I have to go and see my brothers band play this weekend to get my mind off of it.
WLL...I am in Chicago...a completely misplaced person. My folks are in Naples and my oldest brother is in Cape Coral...maybe with DH job woes we will chuck it all and head down there blind!?!?! Kinda hard w/a freshman and 5th grader tho. The Fins have def. raised my blood pressure these last few seasons. It made my day to see Whiney-Wanny get the boot. He still gets a nice $$$ due to his contract. He has a place in Naples...jsut hope I don't run into him .H e did enough damage, tho I think he perfected it up here in Chicago...the guy could never make up his mind who his Quarterback was gonna be 'till like, 5 minutes before game time. He should stick to looking like a german shepard and running his hand thru his hair. It's what he does best. Hey, they can only go up from here, eh?
Momtotwinglesx4...(o.k. I need to condense that to MTTX4:p )GREAT PLAN...however, seeing as how th CR has the best arcade on WDW property..send lots and lots of cash along....and refillable cups for the slurpee machine...hey, they need their liquid refreshments as well ;) as for #8...I may be going out on a limb here, but the kids may be putting YOU to sleep! :teeth:
Man...we just HAVE to hang on to this trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy TGIF all!!!!! Cheers!!!!!!!!

Interesting there are a few regulars on this thread who have only one child...and they are daughters, too.
Finfan-Like I said, I do not follow the Dolphins at all, so I cannot agree or disagree with ya! Ok, let's just say I agree! LOL! If I were you, I would NOT move to South FL, but the west coast is beautiful. My DH and I are trying to get out of South FL...we like a slower paced life and if we can move his business we will head up the coast a bit. I gotta say, I do not like Orlando to live, either. Please don't flame me, anyone! JNHO! My cousin lives there and I have spent a lot of time there and I just don't like it...reminds me too much of Miami! LOL!
Ok, here's hoping you do not have to do the "C" word.
Momtotwnsglesxs4-Sounds like a GREAT plan...although I am one of those people that do not like to drink alcohol after I eat. Once I eat, I am DONE.
I was going to start a separate topic on this, but my question seems to fit in with this thread, so I hope you all don't mind if I join in: I've been wanting to try 'Drinking around the World' at Epcot; however I don't really care for beer and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for some cocktails to try at the various countries. We had dinner at the Rose and Crown one evening a few years back and had some cocktails there but for the life of me I can't remember what I had. It was good though! :D

Hi KimR and welcome! Unfortunately, I'm not the expert on cocktails... I'm one of the beer experts on this thread, but the one drink I can recommend (cuz I've had it) is the fiesta margarita in Mexico... yummy! I'm sure other lushes can steer in you in the right direction in the other countries. My DH loves the ice wine in Canada... it's very sweet (it's a dessert wine) and different but very good.

11-12-2004, 05:09 PM
Hi Kim! Welcome! I consider myself a "cocktail" expert...but can't really help ya...but I am SURE we can get some recommendations from the other lushes. I am not that familiar with Epcot. Plus, I do not "mix" drinks. if I start with a certain cocktail, that is what I stick with. I know, that is boring...but it keeps me from praying to the porcelain god! LOL!
Where is Ahhhhhhh when you need him?

Kim,
I am here to help! I do NOT drink beer, and I drank at the countries in Epcot. We came in the back entrance since we were staying at BCV, at got wine, wine in morrocco, sake in japan (however i highly reccomend against this as we did not enjoy hot sake in the humidty of FL), wine in china, wine in norway, some type of specialty shot in germany and italy, and of course margaritas in mexico (I got mango and loved it, but most people on this board like the fiesta margarita as it is all the flavors layered on top of each other). Sorry I realize this is out of order but I hope it helps. We skipped America b/c well we live here its nothing special and we never made it back to the countries past France. What I highly suggest is just going into each country and they will have a fast food place or cart that sells alcohol. Just ask for the specialty in their country and tell them you dont want beer. Also sometimes you have to go into the gift shop (I think this was the case in either Germany or Italy). Lots of people do this however and you will have no problem at all, and the CM's are def willing to help you out!
O yes and most importantly...ENJOY!

Hi Kim,
Sorry I can't help you out; I've had mainly beer or wine in the WS.
Speaking of beer, I have my souvenier half-yard beer glass (plastic) from the R&C pub here at home from a couple trips ago when we drove down, so packing it wasn't an issue. I think I'll take it with me this trip, but we're flying. Would it be considered a weapon if I put it in a carry-on bag?

I've drank around the World Showcase MANY times. Although we usually partake of beer in each country (let me tell you, Norway is a KILLER! We always start at France - however, my husband won't go to France because of the war: Don't get me started on how it doesn't hurt France at all! - so by the time we reach Norway, we've had quite a few. They goad you, "You don't want a girly beer, do you?" My husband always looks at me pleadingly to order the 32 oz beer because he doesn't want to be girly!!)
sorry, I digress!
...but, to get back on subject, there is a delicious lemon liquor in Italy that I really enjoyed a shot of. Non-beer drinkers should definitely add it to your list!
pixiedust23
11-13-2004, 06:28 PM
I had the lemon liquor in Italy. Very very good! And I'm a shot girl so I should know. Some people think b/c I say I"m a "shot girl" i'm an acoholic. This is when I must explain there is a diff b/w an alcoholic and a lush and that i am the latter!

Disneyaholic, don't worry, your DH is not the only one who feels that way! I pretty much feel the same, but when it comes to Epcot, well, I have to admit I indulged in France...
WLL, you're going to love AKL! We stayed there 2 years ago for my birthday and absolutely loved it. It's soooo beautiful and you'll feel right at home because the "feeling" of the resort is somewhat similar to WL... probably because it was designed by the same architect. We loved sitting in our balconies with coffee (morning) or a glass of wine (late afternoons) to watch the animals. Bring binoculars!
PD23, don't let anyone take "shots" at you (get it?.. please forgive me, I got up at 6:30 am today for no apparent reason so I'm not quite sane). Alcoholics don't know when to stop and I'm sure you do!
wildernesslodgelover
11-14-2004, 09:13 AM
Cristy-LOL..."shots"!!!! Hey, thanks for the AKL excitement! I am sooooo excited and the more I hear the more excited I get! That is what I love about these boards. When I talk to my friends IRL (in real life) they kinda say, "whatever" cuz they are not into the Disney Magic like all of us! Thanks for the binocular tip, although we have a pool view room, I know there is a chance we may get upgraded, although I will be perfectly happy with a pool view, especially if it is anything like the courtyard view at WL!
Geez, that was long, run on sentence!
ctrabada
11-14-2004, 09:59 AM
WLL, the pool view at AKL will be very different than the one at WL. The pool at AKL was made to resemble an African watering hole, so it's not blue... it looks more greenish (don't let the color fool ya, it's just as clean as the other pools!). The surroundings are not lush like the WL, but a lot more subdued with more browns and reds in tone. I thought it was very cool and different and I loved the zero entry pool. My DD loved the slide (and so did we ;)) It's a totally different experience, but with the right attitude, it'll be unforgettable. We stayed concierge and let me tell ya, it was incredible! That's why when I stayed concierge the following year at WL I was not at all impressed. The concierge at WL is really subpar compared to AKL's. But, I'm returning to WL (this time courtyard view) and made reservations at Boma for Xmas dinner. That way I'll get a little of both!
wildernesslodgelover
11-14-2004, 11:27 AM
Hmmm...you got me thinking about upgrading to concierge at AKL. If we can get it for an extra $50 a night...you think we should do it? I have heard elsewhere that AKL CL is btter than most. I am not sure it will be an option cuz I expect it to be a bit busy. Plus, we will be out of the room Friday most of the day. the Saturday we plan on hanging around the hotel....although we do not have a PS for breakfast yet. So maybe we COULD get some use out of it. Sunday a.m. we have a PS at Boma's.
Don't mind my ramblings...I am just thinking out loud here. I get so excited talking about it and thinking of my options, ya know?
I am looking forward to the zero entry pool. I hope it is not too cool next weekend...we were planning on spending all day at the resort and going swimming.
ctrabada
11-14-2004, 11:37 AM
If you can upgrade to concierge for $50 GO for it. They have this awesome capuccino machine.... plus juices all day... you would save on breakfast daily and if you can manage to be there from 5-7 you can partake in excellent african wines (when we stayed there, we planned our days so that we could be back for the wine ;)). I checked in on my birthday and shortly after going to our room, someone knocked on the door... the concierge staff sent me a cake, balloons, a birthday card and a bottle of wine! my dad was with us and we all 3 sat on the balcony drinking our wine and watching the animals... priceless...

I know WDW will be there for us at a later time, it's just that this trip was just falling into place REALLY nicely...great room rates, airfare wasn't too terribly bad for Dec., DH anxious and actually kinda involved in the planning a bit...choosing the hotel and a few PS....getting AWAY for the Holidays (HUGE) Even the part about getting most of the kids gifts out of the way early will go up in flames as a lot of them are WDW related, and I just can't have them opening those after taking the trip away...so returnig great stuff at great prices to join the mad dash of shoppers...uuugghhh..no offense, but I was enjoying being a step ahead this year. At least ahead of what I usually am. O.K. Tomorrow...paging Mr. TOMorrow...is another day. actually it's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!! My pinky is officially out thank you very much...Lush/Lushettes...PARTY ON!

LOL Robin! My pinkie was out the WHOLE TIME! I got class, baby! LOL!
Ok, I am BACK! If ya wanna read my AKL review (which is RIDICULOUSLY LONG...I mean, I am embarrassed at how long it is) check it out on the Resorts board. My review of Boma is on the Restaurants Board.
IF anyone here can provide a link on this thread I would really appreciate it! I tried to figure it out but I am at a loss!
Also, I would love it if someone would explain to me how to post a pic. I also looked for a way but could not figure it out. Just PM me if you will! And explain VERRRRRY Slowwwwly...as if you are talking to a drunk...er, *ahem* lush!
We got to AKL Friday afternoon and we ate at the counter service restaurant, Mara. It was excellent! I had a split of an African chardonnay (can't remember the name, sorry!) and I had a delicious African Stew in a bread bowl! Yum!
That night we stopped at VF for a cocktail before heading out to Epcot for a PS at Akershus (Norway.) I had a Hangar One Dirty Martini and DH had Makers Mark (bourbon) on the rocks. the plan was to ride the bus to Epcot and have a few drinks at Epcot before dinner. well, we had a REAL BUZZKILL situation at the gate that took 30 minutes to resolve. Long story short...I had upgrade my FL res 4 day Park Hopper passes to Seasonal passes in July. I did it by phone and I was mailed vouchers. well, fortunately because I had vouchers the KNEW I had paid for an upgrade, but they could NOT find me in the computer system. I had people in line behind me sighing and getting annoyed (I don't blame them) and I actually had tears in my eyes at one point as they called one manager after another to try to resolve this situation. then we had to walk to a different area, the whole time my poor DD is being patient and my DH getting more and more pizzed. I made him leave and let me handle it, because he was starting to act like a jerk...and my DH is NOT like that usually. we were just ready for our next drink!
FINALLY, it got sorted out...and in our favor, too! Our original Seasonal Passes were gonna expire Jan 13th ...but now we all three have SPs that are good til Nov 19th, 2005! They just issued us new ones right there for being so patient! YAY!!!! So it paid off!
Well, at this point it is almost 7:30 so we go straight to Akershus and i have (I NEED) a DM and DH has another bourbon...actually, I think the waitress was confused and he got a Crown Royal on the rocks. he then switched to beer after that. the food here was GREAT!
Saturday we lounged by the pool (again, please see my AKL report) and DH and my cousin's hubby (they live in Orlando and came to hang out with us) had beers by the pool. They ordered 2 beers from the pool bar which totalled $10 (plus tip, too.) While they were drinking them a CM came up to my DH and was talking to him quietly...I thought we were in trouble or busted for having guests. But he told my DH that if you go into the gift shop you can get a 6 pack of Bud, chilled, for $9.60! What great advice! My Dh said he was never so happy to pay $9.60 for a 6 pack in his life!
that night DD went to Simba's Cubhouse for a few hours and DH and I drank at the bar at Jiko, then moved to VF. I had DMs and he had MM at both places. I had a delightful buzz at this point!!! We ate at Boma for dinner...what an awesome restaurant! I had ANOTHER DM w/dinner and DH had a beer.
Next day, we left the park early cuz it was WAAAYYYY TOOOO PACKED! I mean, ridiculous! We went to the GF via monorail and ate at gasparillas (counter service) and I had 2 splits of chardonnay (Alice White...Australian...very good.) I caught a nice light buzz for the drive home (DH drove, of course) and I was SO SAD to leave!
But hey...i got my seasonal pass til Nov 2005...so i can plan plenty of trips between now and then, right??????

WLL- Great "Lush report"! I'm so glad to hear that your seasonal pass issue was worked out. Usually if you can manage to keep your cool during those situations, where they have made the mistake, they will reward you in the end. So thankfully you managed to send you husband off! As for posting pics, they need be posted somewhere else on the internet first (Shutterfly, snapfish, yahoo pictures, webshots, etc). Then when posting you will see a bunch of grey buttons above your text box. One says "IMG" Click on it. Paste in the hyperlink to your picture and Voila!

My husband and I were talking last night about our upcoming Disney trip. He wanted to know what I was looking most forward to. See if you can note the same pattern he did:
1. Segway Tour
2. Monorail Drink-a-Thon
3. Watching the Christmas parade at the Dawa Bar in AK
4. Having a drink in the 50's Prime Time Diner Lounge
5. Making a goal of having a drink in every resort on property.
6. Strolling through the countries in the World Showcase, sampling favorite beverages
7. Enjoying the fireworks from the bar in California Grill
8. Pleasure Island Comedy Warehouse
9. Jellyrolls
10. Hanging out with hubby.
Yikes - maybe I do have a problem!!

If you're hanging out there in the afternoon...go, get a drink and chill out...if you're there about an hour before the parade, there are often acrobats performing. Very cool with lots of energy.
You can see the parade go by...and then all the people will follow it to the front of the park. Then about 15-20 min later...the parade comes back to Africa (Harambe) via the walkway to Asia...and most of the crowds are gone, so you can mosey over to see the parade up close. :)
enjoy!!

WLL, I'm glad you had a good trip. Thanks for your report. I'm looking forward to my Christmas trip and trying some of the stuff we've discussed here.
Finfan, I hope everything works out for you and your DH!
I'm off to Orlando this weekend to celebrate with my parents, sis and brother but I doubt I'll get a chance to stop at WDW. It's ok cuz I'm staying there in Christmas for a few days, plus I booked my first DVC ressie for next Sept (my bday).
Talk to you all soon!

Well, the wife and I had every intention of doing the drink-a-thon, but our ***** were thououghly kicked. The timing was perfect; the whole family ate dinner at Cinderella's Castle; we watched Wishes from the bridge to Tomorrowland; We walked back to our rooms at the CR by 7:45p; the kids fell asleep soon after. We had Nana & Grampy in an Adjoining watch the kids as we slipped out to the Outer Rim for the first stop on our Monorail Drink-a-thon.
After I had a Bass ale and she had a sour apple martini, we were exhausted. We dicide to have another drink at the bar and head back to the room and have a drink. I never anticipated how much two little girls could kick my butt during the day. Well, in a couple years, maybe I'll have to carry them less, and I'll get the wifey to follow me around.
Consequently, I did get a pic of our drinks at the Outer Rim. Maybe I'll post highlights later.
Just to forewarn the rest of you planners. Toting around little children will tire you out beyond your expectations. I can usually handle a good deal of alcohol, buit after 2 or 3 drinks, I was ready for bed. I guess kid'll do that to ya. :D

The adjoining room thing w/Gma and Gpa is a great idea. DH and I are gonna have to do that sometime. My DD loves the ki'd programs that are at various resorts, but that really hurts the wallet.

Well, aren't we a quiet little bunch this weekend? Hungover anyone?
We spent the holiday in Orlando but did not visit the parks (I spent most of my time either eating or visiting malls... I really love the malls there).
The Florida Mall has a mexican restaurant next to Burdines that intrigued me because they call themselves "Salsa, Taqueria and Tequila Bar" so of course I had to try it! Anyway, I did not have tequila but shared a pitcher of Sangria with my sister... yowzi! They mix the fruit juices and wine with some brandy... delicious! Their chips and salsa were really good too... so was the guacamole... actually we all liked what we ate... the dessert was awesome... fried banans with pecan ice cream... yum!

Has your DH decided yet? Are you going? Inquiring minds want to know :earboy2: .
I was away from the boards for Thanksgiving and then they were down. It's hard to find this thread because the search feature is off :(. I enjoyed a couple bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau with my turkey on Thirsday. Sam's Liquor, a store in Chicago with great prices, was having a sale this weekend. Buy $100 and get a $10 gift card to use in January. We were very low in our scotch collection and, boy did we add to it last weekend! We bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Red as a light "swill" scotch, a 12 year old Highland Park, a 10 year old Laphroig cask strength (yum, our favorite), a 12 year old Glenfarclas, a 12 year old Glenmorangie Port Wood finish (I also like the Sherry finish) and 13 year old Glendronach. I also bought a bottle of Hungarian Tokaj (said Tok-ai) which is a sweet wine for my DH's birthday and we were short about $20 for another $10 gift card so I picked up a bottle of Veuve Clicquot which is chilling in the fridge for that special moment ;).
My credit card said **ouchie**!

cristy-Next time I visit my cousin in Orlando I think I will be hitting the FL mall. I just found out they opened a store that is my favorite makeup...Bare Escentuals! I can only buy it on the internet, and they also carry it at "Ulta" makeup stores, but that is in Orlando, too! So I can't wait to hit a store that is full of the stuff! From what I understand, the FL mall is not too far from WDW, is that right?

The Florida Mall is about 20 min from WDW and it's a wonderful mall. You can look at all the stores at www.simon.com and do a search for the malls in Florida. This mall has Nordstrom, Burdines, Sears, Saks, Dillards & JC Penney as anchors. It's really big.
Another good mall is the Millenia Mall which is about 10 minutes from the Florida Mall (on I-4 go east to Conroy Rd and it's right there). This one is more upscale and has Macy's, Bloomingdale's & Neiman Marcus as anchors.
But don't forget the outlet malls! Premium Outlets is just 10 min away from WDW and it has really good stores.

ctrabada: Yes, things have been quiet. I realized that with 34 days to go before we hit WDW, I am woefully out of shape to perform my LOTW responsibilites. So last Wednesday, I began my training in earnest with about 20 of our good friends. I won't scare anyone with gory details, but anytime you start the night with Guiness, switch to Glenlivet, and then wrap up with Jaegarmeister, the results aren't pretty!
robinb: I'm really impressed with your selections also. I have never tried Laphroig cask strength, but I will now. Sam's is a great place to buy quality spirits.

If you're looking for a specific wine, why don't you call them? Wine lists are rarely published because they can change more often than a regular menu. Especially for reserve wines.

Does anyone know if any of the Disney Bars/Restaurants (Wilderness Lodge, in particular) have a corkage fee if I bring my own wine or champagne?

Just an update about the corkage fee...
I was at the Territory Lounge this evening and I asked the bartender about the corkage fee...he says that occasionally, not very often, people do bring in their own bottles of wine and they will open them for a corkage fee...he did not remember what the amount was and I didn't push him to find out but it sounded like one of those things that they would do if you asked them to...
And since the bartender and I have become buddies, I don't think it will be a problem at all for me to bring my own bottle from my "collection"...

I just read through this verrrry looong thread (well most of it anyway). MY DH and I thought we were alone in thinking of Disney as a party place but can see that we are surely not! Yes, this is the 50's Prime Time Cafe in MGM. It is NOT dark and cozy. Fairly bright and, at times, very loud and crazy. It is right next to the waiting area for people waiting to be called for their table. But you can belly up to the bar with your back to the craziness and feel like you're in your own little world. I don't remember any specific drinks but there were some very good specialty drinks. I had one fruity drink with lots of different liquors in it that had some TV oriented name. We said to the bartender that it was a lot like an Alabama Slammer and he said that's what it really is!
Last trip down in October, we did a DVC crawl! We were staying at the Wyndham that trip but still had to get a taste of our DVC! We went to the Gurgling Suitcase at OKW for a couple of drinks. Then we took the boat the Saratoga Springs Resort. We had a drink at the poolside bar and then went inside for another one at the Turf Club. That is a beautiful and classy place with a great billiard table and TV. We were the only ones there in the afternoon.
We are also firm believers in tipping your bartender well! Here in upstate NY we don't get many buy-backs (being an insurance person, I know the insurance companies prohibit that!). But certain bartenders will sure charge less. We were out a couple of weekends ago, I ordered a shot of cuervo and a diet pepsi for me, and a crown royal and a beer for DH. It was $8.00 from Tim, one of my favorites. The next round was from one of the other guys almost double that.

I have been away from this thread for a while and I was missing you all! I am subscribed to the thread and I would always get an email when someone posted and I haven't received one in a while so I thought the thread had died.... today, I came back to the boards with every intention of reviving the thread when lo and behold, I see it's been busy! I guess the subscription has a time limit....
I am frantically packing because we are on our way today to Orlando. We'll spend 2 nights with my parents and then 3 nights at WL. My DD7 doesn't know we are staying in Disney.... he he he... Christmas night we are having dinner at Boma's.
Being hispanic, Christmas eve is a very big night, and to help my dad out (he's the cook in the family), I'm bringing the roast pork, rice and black beans and plaintains from Miami so he won't have to cook... well, except for dessert.... and I'm also bringing a nice bottle of Robert Mondavi Reserve cabernet to celebrate. It was a very, very expensive bottle, but I figure we have much to celebrate this year and we should just indulge this one time.... I love Mondavi, but I've never drank the expensive wine from them, so I assume (and hope!) that it'll blow me away.
Looking forward to our monorail drink-a-thon this weekend, if we can make it... my mom has come down with a really bad case of the flu and I'm not sure she'll be able to babysit... if not, we'll do it next time.
I wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I hope ahhhhhhhhhhhh comes back engaged!

I AM ON AN ANTIBIOTIC FOR 10 DAYS AND I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO DRINK!!!!!!! :charac2:
How will I get through the holidays, I ask? Especially with the in-laws??????
*sigh* I have had a nasty sore throat for quite awhile, so I guess I gotta do whatever it takes to get better!
Cristy-We are doing Noche Buena at my IL's house on Xmas Eve. I am bringing the Tres Leches...made from scratch. Did I tell ya I am an awesome latin cook..especially for someone who is pure gringa!? Tell me how that wine is...I drink Mondavi, too, but never the expensive one. I have seen it at the store and always wondered if it was worth the extra money. I have always been happy with the Kendall Jacksons...chardonnay, cab sav and merlot. I know they have a pricier line but have never tried it. I like wine a lot, but I am certainly no conossieur (can't even spell it! LOL!)
Have fun at my favorite place...the WL! We will be there Jan 26th-29th!!! Make sure you rub Humphrey's Nose! That brings you good luck and ensures a return visit! (I just found out about that superstition recently on this board...but I love it!)
Hope your mom is feeling better...so that she can enjoy the holidays and you and DH can PAR-TAY HEART-TAY! LOL!
We can't wait to hear a full trip report when you get bacdk!
PD-Merry christmas to you, too! Have a drink or two for me, k??? :earboy2:
ahhhhhhh-I am getting worried! I PMed you...please check in!!!

Yep, we have done it a few times. Usually we start at the Contemporary, as it is the 1st stop after the MK, and we all know there is no alcohol in the MK. We to to the Outer Rim and have a drink. After leaving there we ride to the Polynesian, stopping briefly, of course at the TTC. At the Poly, depending on the time of day, we have a drink either at the Pool bar or the Tambu Lounge. After leaving there, we head to the Grand Floridian and again, depending on time of day, have a drink either at the Pool bar or Mizners. Once we get back to the MK, we are primed to go!
