While I have been posting on the WISH boards for quite a while, I haven't ever ventured over to the Journals. Nice place here! ::yes::

I am starting this journal because I feel like I need a place to put my thoughts out there, as I train for this half marathon, and I don't want to bog down the marathon training thread.

Let's see... a few things about myself
1. We moved to STL from Nashville in July. While I was *really* motivated to get everything unpacked, I have definitely lost my momentum. I worked my tail off for 3 weeks and the house is 'basically' done - just odd boxes here and there and decorating to do. I hate decorating. Probably because I have no idea what I am doing! :p
2. Right before our move to STL, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Bleck! What the heck?? Hind sight, which is of course 20-20, shows me that I had my first exacerbation in March 2000. 2nd major flairup occurred as we were closing our lives in TN. Gee - think stress has any affect on our bodies?!? ;) The MS itself I can handle. It is the treatment I am having difficulty with. I get my weekly injection on Sundays. It takes until Thursday to feel completely 100% again. Hopefully I won't be battling these side effects long!
3. Weight. :o Let's just say that 3000 milligrams of IV steriods over a 3 day period doesn't help a person trying to *lose* weight. A 21 pound weight gain in a week isn't normal but it won't go away now! Shoo, pounds, shoo! Where is that blasted Whoosh Fairy?? Oops. That probably won't get her to come and help me. ;)
4. Weighing most heavily on my mind... THE HALF MARATHON!!!! ACK!! I need to get my tail in gear. I have a training plan I am following, but, boy, oh boy, am I disappointed in my progress! I tried to walk 3 miles outside today and had to stop because I started having an asthma attack. Back to the treadmill for me, despite it being soooooooooooo boring! I hope I'm not expecting too much from myself.

Well, I feel better getting this all out. Happy Friday!

Tomorrow:
walk 30 minutes per plan
drink more water!

Welcome. I hope your asthma settles down. Try and keep the stress down, easier said than done I know since its not good for the MS nor weight loss. Good luck with training.

Thanks for the welcome and warm wishes, Wilderness! I appreciate it. ::yes::

Today I did my 30+ on the treadmill. I need to find something for my calves. I get into a good stride as I am walking but my calves start locking up and making things quite painful! I won't be able to walk 13.2 miles with that constant!

I am happy to report that when I walked today, my hips and legs didn't get numb. I only noticed a little tingling in the hip region after the cooldown, during stretches. That's awesome!! Maybe this MS is going to let me do this half marathon thing! ::yes:: :hyper:

I need to drink even MORE water. I guess it may be time to look for another pair of walking shoes, as well.

This evening I get my next injection. I am really not looking forward to it. My dh has to give it to me since my sister (nurse) can't make it over. I still have a huge bruise from last week's shot! Hopefully tomorrow won't be as bad as last Monday. DH stayed home from work, the side effects were that bad. Little by little, I am sure I will get accustomed to this. That, or I will start investing in Tylenol and Advil stock. ;)

Hi Terry! Welcome to the journal board. :)

You sure have been through a lot in the last few months! It sounds like you have a great attitude and have been handling everything really well. I love taking my walks outside and totally agree that the treadmill gets a tad boring after awhile. I'm sorry that your asthma has bothered you and kept you from the great outdoors. Until you are able to go back is it possible to watch tv while on the treadmill? Something to kind of take away from the dullness level? I'd suggest listening to music but even that doesn't help me too much when I'm on the treadmill because my eyes still see the wall in front of me. LOL For your calves you can do raises to help strengthen them. Stand on a step (front step of your house will do) with all but the back of your heels on the step. Slowly raise yourself up onto the balls of your feet, hold five seconds then lower yourself back to the start position. This is a great calve exercise. :) I hope you get to feeling better soon!

geetey
10-17-2004, 08:24 PM
Great idea, Michelle! I hadn't thought of trying to strengthen my calves more - quite the opposite. That may be just the ticket, however. ::yes:: I will try some of those this evening!

Our treadmill is buried in a room (post move chaos), so I am happy that I was able to dig out enough space to get to it and plug it in. It will be awhile before I can even move it somewhere to be able to see a tv! I do have the radio in there, but my view is less than stellar. ;) hee hee I see boxes, a twin mattress, window cross hatch inserts, shelving... some fun stuff!

Checking in.... my injection hurt really badly last night. DH thinks he might have gone too low on my leg so there wasn't enough muscle. IM's stink! Side effects are manageable today. I think I have slept through the worst of them. DH even woke me up during the night to take more advil. Poor guy - so worried, but so thoughtful.

Today is a schedule day of rest, so I am taking it. I like these days! ;) Tomorrow it is back to training!

Finished my training for the day. Woo hoo! I tried something new (after reading more of Marathoning for Mortals) and strapped on the heart rate monitor. John is right! As a newbie, I was training too hard. I slowly my pace and worked at the 70% max heart rate. Hopefully I am training my body for endurance and to use my fat stores as energy (as the book states) so I can go the distance in January!

Gotta drink more water. Ugh - definitely my downfall lately. I feel the need for caffeine so I opt for Dt Coke instead. :o

Terry, welcome to the WISH Journal board!! You're right - we're a very friendly and supportive bunch!! Glad to have you join us! :wave2:

I've just recommitted to my half marathon training. Yesterday was 2 miles and today is a rest day. I walk 2 miles Wed., 2 miles Thurs. and 3 miles on Saturday. Are you doing something similar?

Best wishes for your training. I know I'll be taking my albuterol inhaler BEFORE I walk outside soon. One of my asthma triggers is cold air! Taking it prior to exercise can prevent an attack for me. Don't know if that would work for you.

Might be time to spruce up that treadmill space! I know you've got lots of "stuff" in that room, but you can usually pick up a nice poster or 2 for next to nothing at KMart, Spencer's, etc. I prefer a nice beach scene with palm trees, sand and very blue water, but there are lots of choices out there. If you're going to spend time there, you may as well invest $5-$10 to make it more interesting! :p

Hope you have a fabulous Tuesday!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Hello Hello and Happy Thursday!

It is a glorious day because I walked *four* miles at the park today AND the Cardinals are playing in game 7 of the playoffs! WOO HOO!! GO CARDS!!! So, today was the long distance endurance part of my training schedule. While I had a lot of tightness in my calves, things definitely got looser as we walked. Whew! Michelle & I shared a Clif Bar - Black Cherry Almond @ the 2.5 mile mark. Not too bad. I definitely think the bar helped. I continued on at a good pace with no fatigue. Go ME! :jumping4:

Doreen, you are right. I *definitely* need to get that treadmill room cleared out. My dh needs to move those empty electronic boxes away and to their final resting place (he always saves the boxes :confused3 ). That will make a big difference for those rainy days. I am following a training schedule similiar to the one Amanda posted. In fact, I added my schedule to her thread, just in case someone wanted one with more cross training. My schedule comes from John Bingham in his book, Marathoning for Mortals. The book is excellent! He was 45 and overweight when he did his first marathon and he is passing on all of the tricks to the readers. I am confident his plan will work. ::yes::

We found a great path to walk/train on. Supposedly the complete trail is over 13 miles but it isn't all marked yet. As long as it isn't pouring, I think this will be my training spot until the marathon. :hyper:

I wonder if it is a good idea to take an advil 'just in case' for those aches and pains that are sure to arrive? Tomorrow is a rest day. The kids don't have school. WOO HOO! We are sleeping in!!!!!!!

GO CARDS!!!

:wave2: Terry,

I just wanted to welcome you to the Wish journals. I have to say I am impressed with your training routine. Do you do adequate stretching. It may help with the cramping. Since you are training for the marathon, maybe a poster of WDW would work for inspiration?
Keep up the great work.

Hi Beth! Thanks for stopping by! Wow - this Journal board is very friendly! ::yes:: Can I offer you a beverage? http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/food46.gif

I have been stretching after each training session. I think I might need to focus some additional time on my legs, especially my calves. They are fine today - after I took an advil this morning. Of course, the extra pounds I am carrying through all of this training certainly isn't helping my legs! :o

It was a day of rest today. Well, at least rest from training! ;) I feel good and ready to do my walking tomorrow, so I take that as a good sign. I feel very dedicated to this marathon training - perhaps I should take the time to focus on my weight as well. I started this process thinking I would let my weight take care of itself throughout the training (thought process being that I would lose some weight if I continued to eat well, but trained more) but my weight is up! ACK!  It sounds like it is time to start counting my food points again.

Today I told someone about my MS. It is the mother of my dd's classmate. They have had a couple of playdates and are on the same volleyball time. I like this lady. She is very nice and welcoming. It is definitely difficult to join a school in the middle grades and fit in. The kids seem to be doing great -- just not a lot of social opportunities for myself. Anyway, the mom is a cardiac nurse, so I figured she wouldn't freak so I told her. She didn't freak. I guess because MS is still new to my life, I don't mind talking about it. Answering the questions helps me see things more clearly. She was very cool about the whole thing, and now understands while I look like crap when I pickup on the kids on Mondays! LOL! MS isn't a dirty secret and I don't feel like treating it like one. Maybe that's why I feel like 'getting it out there'. http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/shrug.gif

Here's to a great weekend and another win by the Cardinals Saturday night!!!! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/boldred.gif http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/boldred.gif http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/boldred.gif

Hi Terry,

MS is definately not a dirty secret. I think it is great that you shared the info with someone. Obviously, she was a good choice. BTW, I'm a cardiac nurse. I hope this leads to you becoming good friends with her.

You are doing great with your training. Please remember that you are gaining muscle. Have you takien measurements? You should try to do that every 2 weeks or monthly. It has kept me motivated when the scale won't budge.

Take care,
Beth

BACK!

I missed a couple of days posting on the DIS. I guess I got too caught up in the World Series. :p Gotta love my Cardinals -- I just wish they had made a better showing in their past 4 games. I am still proud of them for making it to the Series though!

I have been keeping up with my training. ::yes:: I did my walking (40 mins total with warmup & cool-down) and cross-training for 30 mins. Today I did my 5 miles - whew - averaged a 20 minute mile but, oh man, am I sore already! OUCH! I have stretched twice but I can still feel it. I guess I forgot the "slow" part of the walk today. ;)

I went to see my MS doctor Wednesday morning. She says I am doing FA-Boo! Too funny. I don't think I am doing anything out of the ordinary - but I guess she sees all aspects of this disease. She gave the final okay for the half marathon (although she thinks I am crazy! LOL! ) and I have strict instructions to bring pics to the next appointment. She also gave me a prescription for Naproxen 550 mg. Dr Parks says this should help significantly with my headaches after my shots. I hope she is right because I feel a little uncomfortable with a 2x a day pill to pain relief.

Beth, thanks for your support. I *really* appreciate it! You are right - MS is not a dirty secret. Thanks for that affirmation. Cardiac nurse, huh? That is one ROUGH job! God bless you and yours for doing what you do. Nurses are probably one of the most underappreciated jobs around. I love love love my nurse in TN. We all miss Karen, but she has a Nurse Minnie pin to remember us by.

THREE CHEERS for all of the nurses in the world!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi Terry,

Great job getting those 5 miles in. I am so glad you doubled checked with your MD about the 1/2 marathon. That is very smart. I have to say that I am VERY impressed with your dedication to exercise. Many people use a chronic disease as an excuse not to exercise. You are a very cool woman.

Keep up the great work,

Is Halloween over yet?!?!

I love this holiday but I *need* to get this candy out the door! Hurry, hurry, hurry!!! Tomorrow shall be the beginning of a sugar purge. ::yes::

No training today yet. Dr Parks asked me to wait until after my shot to see if exercising helps relief symptoms. My fault, since I told her about trying that last week. ;) I didn't mind trying it last week because I know my advil and tylenol can keep things in check. This week   I have to try a new pain med - Napoxen 550 mg. I am very nervous because it is a once every 12 hours pill. 12 hours will be a long time to go, if this new stuff isn't effective. I understand Dr Parks' reasoning. My liver is being stressed by the Avonex and my Pravachol, so it makes sense to keep other stress away, if possible. My numbers were fine before starting the Avonex. Next week, I get it checked again - post Avonex.

V E R Y slow training yesterday. Slow strolling because my legs are SO sore. I have some pain on the back of my left knee and rest is the cure. I went slow slow slow and didn't even track the distance. Tonight will be light as well. I may just do Pilates since that doesn't put any pressure on my legs and it is cross training today.

Thanks for your encouraging words, Beth! You are a real sweetie. I agree with you. It does seem like a lot of people use chronic disease to stop exercising. I don't want to be like that. I would rather someone see me and say, "She has MS? Really???" I think regular exercise is one way to make that happen! ::yes::

Today is a day of rest for me. Whew. I did the 3 mile WATP last night after my injection. Ouch. I can always feel pain near the injection site if I exercise afterwards, but the doc wants to see if it helps minimize some of the side effects.

I have taken my second dose of Naproxen. No body aches anywhere. Still battling a headache :headache: but it isn't terrible. I would take 2 tylenol or advil, if I could, but I can't. Perhaps some caffeine will help. I guess I better hurry up and get some water in me then! :drinking1 Gotta finish at least 1 water bottle before a soda. ::yes::

The 3 mile WATP was tougher than I remember. I guess that what I get for going so long without it! :p It is time to kick one of the cross training session up to 40 minutes, so 3 mile WATP it shall be for a while.

Anyone know of a candy shelter where they take strays? We have some candy that definitely needs a better home! :scared:

CANDY CANDY CANDY! I want some candy!! ACK! :crazy2:  I am having some major cravings! This is day two of my sugar purge and OH MAN is it hard! I want some CANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :bitelip: :scared:

Okay, I thought typing that would help me feel better. Not yet. I did my walking today - 40 minutes in the blustery wind. Brrr.... luckily I had a lightweight zippered hoodie on over my shirt. I had on a ball cap as well, but definitely needed the hoodie to keep me warm. It was just right for today's weather. The walk was hard. :sad2: I tried a new path today and OUCH! The walkway itself was tilted so I was walking on an angle. My left ankle was hurting 20 minutes in, then my right knee started, then my left calf! Sheesh! I guess my leg muscles aren't strong enough to walk at a good pace AND walk on a slant. Last time at that park for quite a while! ::yes:: I AM proud of myself for finishing though! I even went a tad over 40 minutes.

DH came home in a foul mood last night. Work is overwhelming him and he wanted to know I would feel about him quitting, getting a lower job so he could be home more, moving to a different house and cutting back on our lifestyle.

:faint:

I have always supported my DH - that's why we keep moving around, but really! I mean we *just* moved into this house in July! The thought of having to pack all of this stuff up again makes me feel ill. The thought of all of the rooms we painted here - the work done - telling the kids -

:faint:

I am not 'about' the house. Or a job title. Or the kind of car a person drives. The clothes. Any of that. I didn't want to move here to begin with! I didn't like this house! I just can't imagine trying to 'undo' all of this. Hmm.... maybe I have just found the reason I want that candy so badly! :p

We shall see what tonight brings. I really hate for him to be under such stress and working such hours, but part of me feels like... it's his own fault! :duck: Corporate America Sucks! Don't let your children go into Accounting!

I believe I shall go try and kill this sugar craving with a Dt Coke! :drinking1 Until later! :wave2:

I will say some prayers for you and your hubby. If your husband is looking for a part time job where he can make his own hours and get paid daily, let me know. My DH has a part time job in sales and he loves it.

Thanks for your support everyone! I really appreciate it. Talking about things definitely helped. He went into work and talked with his 'former' boss the next day and he is hopefully that he will be getting some support soon. It is really hard to be the new guy (6 months for DH) who is supposed to fix things, when they decide to do a restructure, have your new boss be out-of-state, and just general chaos. DH is an overachiever (sounds better than workaholic) but the 11 hour days are getting to all of us. My kids are young but old enough to remember that we moved away from STL before so their daddy could be home on the weekends and at night. It is frustrating to see that same old cycle starting again, even though this is a different company. Have I mentioned how much I dislike accounting and retail? :p ;)

Tracy - thank you for your offer! I really appreciate it. DH is too young to be working PT (40).... or should I say our kids are too young for DH to start working PT! LOL! :teeth:

Sharon - I know exactly what you mean. It always helps DH when we talk things through. This was just such a huge bombshell (quitting) that *I* felt the need to talk about it! :hyper2:

Beth - I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has a hard time walking on a slant! I thought I was getting old. :guilty: (<--that looks like an old face, right?)

Back on subject. I flopped. Belly-flopped. Right into the bowl of candy. Ack! That mini-Almond Joy was calling my name. It's happy now. I am happy now. AND I have a huge bag to send to work with DH. ;) It is crosstraining today, only 30 minutes so I will be 2 mile WATPing later. DH asked me to wait for him. I gave him a 'curfew' of 7 pm or I would be doing it alone. I get too tired to do it after 9 pm.

This morning I took the kids to school and went to Creve Coeur Lake Park for my walk. It is my long day, but this is the 'rest' week, so my long walk was 3 miles. I was happy about that because it was 48º with high winds and a light drizzle. Now that I have finished, I am, of course, tired. My body is screaming for a nap. I suppose that's the MS talking. I may give in to a little one before I have to pick up the kids, but I also have a ton of laundry to fold.

Hi there. I just caught up on your journal. You have alot going on with just moving, husband overworking, getting kids adjusted to new surroundings/school and MS. You are doing a good job. Don't worry about the candy. You only ate one piece. Halloween, although cute/fun for the kids, is evil because of all the candy.

My neighbor has MS and says her arms ache. I need to ask her what she takes for the pain. I know I have seen her have warm heavy heating pads on her arms. I'm sorry for your pain and hers. You both have such positive attitudes about this. If your husband can't inject you correctly in the hip, make sure he does it in the flesh of your behind. Have the RN show him where is an appropriate place to inject. I also know someone who has just been diagnosed with MS that gets her shot on Sunday and also doesn't feel well until Wed. I didn't realize that the shot was so strong.

You are doing a great job on exercise. Hope you have a good weekend.

  Gosh, you guys are SO great!! Thanks for checking up on me!!

Things are going okay here. I have been having some significant pain in my leg/knee, so I took the prescribed time off. I don't want to cause an injury that would throw me out of the marathon, so I rested, rested and rested. I am doing a short walk today - to 'test' things and see if I can hanlde the long walk on Thursday.

Busy weekend. My dd had 2 volleyball games this weekend (only one more weekend to go). We had time to go to Mass and then meet some people for dinner. DH is trying to hire someone new at SAL. This family was in town from MN, so as a nice gesture we met them for dinner. I hope they enjoyed it. My kids were actually rather good hosts to their two children despite the age differences. Way to go, J & J!

Sunday we went to see the Incredibles at the last matinee, then it was time for dinner and the *shot*. Ugh. It was time for the outer thigh - ouch ouch ouch. I think we should take Dr Parks' advice and just skip the outer thigh for now. As part of our 'exercise experiment', I was not to walk after the injection. I know one thing now -- it helps to walk! It must really really help because I felt awful throughout the night and Monday, despite my Naproxen. Today I am still dragging but it is better than yesterday. Whew! I have to get a 40 min walk in today and I am confident I can do that. :) Funny how much easier it is to walk longer. Not even as boring. ;)

Wilderness -- thank you for your advice! I wish we could 'do my bum' but the nurses won't train us for that area because there is the chance of hitting my sciatica. The needle is about 2" long. My arms aren't 'meaty' enough so we can't use that area. The only approved areas I have are my thighs - tops and outer sides. The Dr said we could skip the outer thigh if I wanted. My sister said she would give me in the injection in my bum, if someone would mark the area for her. (She graduates with her RN in May.) We *have* to hit muscle. I hope your neighbor/friend starting feeling better soon. I have been told numerous times that it takes 6 months to a year to get past these side effects. I am in week 7.

Sharon - we did see the Incredibles! Loved Edna Mole! "No Capes, Dahling! No Capes!!" Bob was great too. Heck - I enjoyed all of the characters, even Syndrome.

Beth - thanks for always checking in on me! I really appreciate your support.

Tracy - thanks for your continued support as well.

so why am I so relucant to post in my own? :scratchin

I mixed up my training schedule a little this week. I walked my long walk yesterday because it was predicted to be a beautiful sunny day, while today was said to be rainy. They were right! Yesterday the temps started in the upper 40s and ended up in the upper 60s! Today? Rain, rain, rain!! I am SO glad I am not out there trying to walk in this mess.

As I mentioned, I walked yesterday. 6 miles at Creve Coeur Lake. What a horrid walk. Have you ever had a walk so bad, you wonder *why* you are even doing it?!?! Oh man. Between mile 2 and 3, I wanted to cry. At the end of mile 4, I was using my cell phone to call my dh to see if he would talk me out of finishing. Ugh. I ended up doing all 6 miles. It took me 1 hour and 55 minutes. Man - my time sucks! I should be improving, but not this week.

I tried Gu and Power Gel this week. GAG! The Power Gel was the worst. NEVER again! :crazy2: The Gu wasnt' as bad, but it certainly didn't work for me.

I do like my new Coolmax socks. They worked well. :)

Today I am cross training (flopped with yesterday). I am going to do my Pilates dvd because my back started feeling weak towards the end of my walk. I need some core strengthening, obviously. ;)

Tomorrow is a day of housecleaning... er... I mean rest. ;) We hvea out of state company coming, so I need to do some straightening, vacuuming and bathroom cleaning.

Still not feeling very :sunny: about myself, even though I finished my walk feeling waaaaaaay better than when I started, so I will close here.

Guess what? I know about what you are going through with the MS. MIL has it and it has been her undoing. You, on the other hand, seen determined to manage it and not let it beat you. I am so glad that you are taking a positive approach. Anytime you need to vent, you let me know. I have heard diatribes form my MIL that would make a truck driver blush, so you can vent away sweety!

Hi Tracy! Thanks for stopping by! Together we understand what each other has/will be facing. I will definitely keep you in mind for a good vent. ;) :hyper2:

Beth - confession time. I didn't finish the cleaning. :confused3 I hate cleaning house. I shouldn't say that. I really don't mind cleaning the house. I just hate cleaning up messes someone else made and didn't clean up! (Kids! Men! What are we supposed to do with them?!? :p :teeth: )

No school today because of teacher meetings. We had parent/teacher conferences last night. I love my dd's teacher. She is really on the ball, very proactive in helping Jess with her learning disability, and very open and communicative. Love her! My ds's teacher - eh. She says his grades will be better next quarter because she didn't know what he was capable of and she didn't know him. Huh? Aren't grades based on performance? We weren't unhappy with his grades (A's and B+'s) but she made it sound like she held his grades down. Weird. It is only 3rd grade so no stressing over it! Anyway.... her attitude is very much one of 'if this causes stress, then I won't address it'. She 'lets it go'.
She marks that he has problems working in a timely manner, but has decided that rather than nag him about it (her words), she is just going to let it go.
I am not quite sure how this is going to help Jake. She couldn't answer if she thought it was a maturity thing - which would then make sense to kind of 'let go' since we would be hoping he would outgrow it?
I asked about him getting some phonics help since he has difficulty spelling a word when sounding it out. (His inner voice has a Nashville acccent so fin is spelled fen.) Since his Iowa Basic Tests were so high, she says he doesn't need help.

Okay - I am letting go now.....

Anyway, this morning Jake woke up with a fever and a cough. Fun. We haven't been to see a doctor here yet. DH just picked one out of the provider book when he filled out the paperwork, so today we are going to see Dr. Smith. Let's hope he is good! Ugh. Another joy of moving. ;)

Today *will* be spent cleaning house! Our company will be here around 4:30 pm. Jake's appt is at 2:30. Let's home we are finished in time!

This is a day of rest in training for me, but I might try a very very short walk with some speed drills. Work on form and length of stride, but only 20-30 mins of walking.

Here's to a Happy Friday!

Hi Tracy!

Before moving to STL, I was a sub for 1st - 4th grade. :wave2: I did 5th grade a couple of times, but those kids are taller than me. hee hee

Nope - Jake's teacher is not a first year teacher. I am not sure what her family situation is but I know she mentioned that if her daughter calls and needs her, she does have to leave the class (and building) to go to her. She seems to have a very carefree attitude. Definitely not what I am used to. I agree with you - despite Jake's scoring 92 CORE on his Iowa's, why shouldn't he get tools to help him? I am confused. Parents have mentioned that the 3rd grade teachers are considered very weak -- maybe this is what they mean.

Jake is holding his own. Dr said it was just a virus at this point. Whew. DH has the same thing but a step advanced. He pushed and got some antibiotics. Suffice it to say that my DH is the same as every other DH when he gets a cold. :crazy2: :faint:

Today was walking on the treadmill. Did my 5 minutes of warm up. 40 minutes walking. 5 minutes cool down. I don't understand though. It is SO hard to walk for those first 20-30 minutes. OUCH OUCH OUCH!! My ankles/calves are just killing me! Things will loosen up after quite a while and then I am fine. Anyone have any idea why this is happening??

Good afternoon, Beth! Thanks for the PD! I think I need it. I feel my sinuses acting up, but hopefully it is due to the big weather change, instead of getting that virus!

Yep - it was shot time yesterday. Weird stuff. My training nurse said we needed a half filled bottle of clorox for disposal of my needles. Okay - no problem. Well, this Sunday night, when we opened it to dispose of the needle, it HISSED!! The bottom of the bottle is bulging too! What's up with that?!?! Like idiots, we peeked inside. There was lots of black stuff (maybe mold?? - how can mold live in bleach???) in there, as well as the needles. We sealed the bottle up as instructed, with duct tape, and disposed of it. Not sure how we should proceed. I may just get a traditional sharps container, but everyone says they are very hard to dispose of when it is full.

Anyway.... I got my shot. Outer right thigh. Ouch on the plunge again. I am guessing this is something that isn't going to change. Afterwards I did my 3 mile WATP tape. Whew. That's hard still! I had a rough night's sleep. The naproxen just doesn't seem to be enough to get me through 12 hours. I took my second 550 mg at 6 am, but was still running a fever of 99º (felt higher) at 7:30 am. I slept the rest of the morning away and do feel better. I have a slight headache, so I am downing some caffeine in hopes that will help. No body aches, no more fever. Yeah! :bounce:

Tomorrow is scheduled to be a 40 minute walk so I will head to Fleet Feet afterwards to get my shoes checked out. Won't that be a big DUH moment for me if this is what's causing me so much pain! :o Live and learn!!

Here's to a GREAT WEEK, everyone!! Sending :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: and :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to all! :wave2:

I am surprised that mold would grow in a clorox bottle, but really anything can grow in a damp dark place. What do you do with the clorox bottle when you are done? Would it be just as easy to get rid of the sharps in a sharp container at a local hospital? I don't know the protocol on this. You are so brave accepting all this. My neighbor is just like you and I am in awe of her. She doesn't stop living her life, takes it easy when she needs to and is truly brave without ever complaining. I hear more complaining for the other neighbor for headaches. I know everyone's pain tolerance is different but really she is an inspiration. I agree with Beth though that you should very much take it easy when you are not feeling well and after your shot. You don't want to push too much ok? Take care of yourself.

Hi Terry,

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. I am not sure what to do about the needle. You might want to call the garbage company for suggestions. When you are on the treadmell, do you use an incline. That might contribute to the pain. It could be shin splints. You would need to slow down at the beginning, or take a break from the training. I have a feeling that you wouldn't be willing to do that.

I hope your Wednesday is going well.
Take care,
Beth

 Beth! You made me laugh and then realize you are probably right.

I wish I could say that I am warming up slowly enough (I take 5 minutes and walk very slowly before starting into my 'training' I start at 1.5 as the speed, and add .2 at each minute. I always walk on the lowest incline.), but maybe everyone is right and I need to slow down.

I got some new shoes last night. Heaven! Can you hear my legs singing? Yep - they felt that much better. After the sales person at Fleet Feet showed me the signs of wear on my shoes, I am embarrassed I didn't notice myself! Well, the tops look good. ;)

I some slight soreness, but no pain when I walked last night. It felt good. Except for one thing. I can't walk straight. :( I had kind of noticed I was walking 'to the left' but didn't really give it too much attention. Last night on the treadmill, it was obvious. I had to FOCUS to stay in the middle of the treadmill or steady myself by holding on to the bar. :(

Ugh.

I called my MS doctor this morning. I have to go see her Friday morning at 10 am. Before my visit, I have to go to the lab and get some tests done. CBC, urinalysis (sp?) and BMT. The nurse that called me back didn't know what BMT stood for but she said I didn't need to fast for this.

Double Ugh.

I know I have MS. The problem is I can't help thinking that before I knew I had MS, I would have dismissed this 'problem' - maybe blamed it on my sinuses - and moved on with my daily routine. Now, instead, I am upset. I don't feel like sitting through 2 hours of MRIs again (who even knows if that would be needed). I don't feel like changing meds and getting trained on a new one, much less have to deal with another med company. (The amount of stuff they send is :earseek: plus the phone calls!) I guess I deal better when I act like something isn't happening, which of course isn't dealing at all! :p

Ugh.

I do believe I work better in denial. I wonder if we will still be going to Chicago for Thanksgiving?

Now for a happier post...

Fleet Feet is a really cool store! You don't have to pick out the best shoes -- they do it for you. I liked now they watched my stride and made sure the shoe fit properly and worked for me.

A moment to brag -- my current shoes were GREAT shoes for me and I picked them out myself! HA! Pretty funny I thought, since I just fumble through Sports Authority usually. I tried on a new pair of those - walked in them - she brought out several other options to consider and Wah-Laa! I had new walking shoes. Rather painless for a person who hates to shop. :p I chose a slightly more cushioned heel than my old pair since I strike my heel when I walk.

I test drove the shoes last night on the treadmill. They feel like winners. They said to wear them several times and I can bring them back if I encounter any problems or don't like the fit. I even got some free samples of Gu. It seems I was starting with the 'hard core' flavors. Hey - I like fruit! The Just Plain is much better. I haven't tried the vanilla or chocolate. I do know tangerine or raspberry will not cross these lips again! :crazy2:

Tonight we are going to see National Treasure. We were able to get an invite from Disney Visa for the free screening. The kids are very excited to see a movie before ANYONE else. LOL! I thought it looked like a good movie and always jump at the chance to see one for free. :teeth:

I am skipping my traditional crosstraining and going to do my Pilates DVD instead. You can't fall over when you are already lying on the floor. ;) I felt like I need some core strengthening anyway, so this will work out well.

Happy HUMP day everyone!

Thanks for the support, everyone. I really do appreciate it.

Tracy. Your enthusiasm made me giggle this morning. Thanks! Maybe I should take you with me when I have to shop! I could pick up things and say.... What do you think? You give me the yea or nay, and I would be good to go! :cool1:

My dh found some interesting information in the medical section of the marathon packet.....
NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen (Motrin and Advil), Naproxen (Aleve) and Ketoprophen can affect the body's electrolyte regulation systems especially sodium, and increase the risk of hyponatremia.
Nausea can be a sign of dehydration or over hydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Dizziness.... general tingling are more concerning and greater precautions should be taken.

Well... as we all know, I am taking some major Naproxen! And was instructed to follow with Advil/Tylenol as needed, after the 1st 24 hours. Maybe that's why I am feeling so bad?? I have been using Gu and Powerade to help but maybe it isn't enough? Maybe too much? I have been following the Marathon for Mortals guideline. Exercise under 1 hour - water. Exercise over 1 hour - Gu w/water or Powerade. I am bringing this packet with me tomorrow, so the doctor can read it. Hopefully she can check my levels and make sure I am okay.
What though, may I ask, is Gu?
Michelle, (I am quoting the web site here...)

GU is a convenient, great tasting carbohydrate gel formulated to energize before, sustain during, and aid in recovery after training and competitions. Made with a unique blend of ingredients, GU provides: complex carbohydrates for sustained energy, amino acids to maintain muscle protein, antioxidants and muscle buffers to aid with recovery.
Each packet contains
100 calories
40g Sodium
35 g Potassium
25 g Carbs

My explanation? It's like slurping not-so-yummy icing from a foil packet.

Forgot to mention National Treasure!

We were able to see this movie last night, thanks to Disney Visa. I was surprised at the security at this event! They told us at the beginning that the extra security was to prevent any bootlegging of the film. All cell phones and pagers had to be turned OFF (not just to silence or vibrate). If they saw any light coming from a person, you would be immediately escorted from the theater - no questions asked.

The four of us really enjoyed the film. I was pleased with the way Disney handled this film. It was completely appropriate for my dd and ds to see (11 and 9). In fact, they were so entralled #1) they want to see it again and #2) they would like to go to Washington DC to see the places shown in the film -- Washington's Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian, etc. etc. etc... WOW - good flick AND it made my kids want to learn something about history?? FOUR http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/icon14.gif here!

Now about the MS. We all would love to deny that there is a problem with our health. You know that you have MS, so it is VERY important that you pay attention to what your body tells you, and notice the little things. It is better to over-react and catch an exascerbation than it is to ignore it and be so weak that you can't function. I'm glad you are going to the MD to get checked out. I know it is a pain, but there are too many people who depend on you. Please keep us posted. If you haven't noticed, we have a tendancy to worry.

Take good care of you,

Thanks for stopping by everyone! :wave2:

I had a long day at the doctor's office. I am not sure what ended up happening - maybe I was being squeezed in? - but I had to wait over 2 hours to see Dr Parks. Ugh. I read every magazine they had.

I had my labs drawn before my visit, and she had all of the results, except one, before I left. Kidney, liver functions are fine. Blood counts are good. No infections. Only one surprise. My blood pressure was elevated. Okay - more than elevated. It was HIGH! YIKES!! The first time it was awful, but she blamed it on the wrong cuff. It was 204/120. After switching cuffs for a better size, it was 156/90. What the heck?!?! It was normal in June - even when I was in a full blown episode.

Everything else went okay. She said she could see the 'problem' in the left leg but that it was hard to detect because it is so small. I have an Rx for steriods but I am not to take them unless I get worse, and after I call her. She gave me the okay to continue training but I have to follow up with my primary care doc about the b/p. She said she would be checking into the NSAIDS and their effect on electrolyte balances, and she will call me if I had any problems with mine (that was the one test she didn't have results from).

She said she believes my problem lies with.......

Stress

Dr Parks says stress could be the cause of my flare-up, and my high b/p, and that I need to address that.

:scratchin How do I go about not having stress right now? Different city, different home, different schools, MS.... I thought I was handling things okay but it seems I must be internalizing. DH and I had a long talk tonight so we can work out some strategies. Maybe I should look into yoga. That is supposed to be good for MS as well.

Off to bed I go. Here's hoping for a good weekend for all!

If anyone knows anything about high b/p, I would love to hear about it. I am scheduled to walk 7 miles this weekend, but don't know if that is a good idea right now.

:wave2: Hi Terry,
When did the doc. take your blood pressure? Maybe you were nervous about the other test results (if it was taken before she gave them to you)? Do you have a way to monitor it at home for awhile? Wow, was that was a lot questions ;) . I'm hoping you can work with your primary care dr. to get it under control so you don't have to worry about it.

Is tomorrow your shot day? I'm going to say a prayer for you tonight that it goes as smoothly as possible for you. Take care of you.

Hi Terry,

I have another questions for you. What was your caffiene intake before the reading? Caffiene can DRAMATICALLY raise BP. People blow it off, but it is true. You won't be diagnosed with hypertension until you have 3 high readings. Stress could certainly contribute to the hypertension. I think you should check into getting an automatic BP cuff. Youcan check it on a regular basis. The other thing is tthat many meds can cause an increase in BP. If you PM me your list of meds, I'll look into it for you. On the plus side, hypertension is now controllable, and you have caught it early. Exercise, weight loss, and yoga will all help decrease BP, IF you actually have high BP.. Remember, 1 reading doesn't make you hypertensive.

I'm sending:wizard: for your shot today. I hope it is less painful today.

{{{hugs}}} Terry

I'm glad that your visit went well other than the BP and I am so sorry that it is giving you a problem. I would agree that it's probably stress. Now you're probably stressed because the BP reading was high! :(

I think yoga sounds like a great idea! I do some yoga moves in my therapy exercises and they make my back feel sooooo good. ::yes::

I hope that you get to feeling better soon, mind and body. You are in my prayers.

Gee, I was busy posting on everyone's journals, when I realized I had missed my own.

Last night we went to see my neice in a production of Godspell. The Christrian Ministry group at their church put it on, so it was small scaled but I was so impressed! Nikki did a fantastic job! That's quite a voice she has!

Today was spent doing laundry, laundry, and oh yeah, more laundry. For school, my ds had to create a boardgame based on the animal facts book he read this month. We were both really pleased with the result. We even played it as a family several times. Anyone want to know a monkey or ape fact? ;)

From a health standpoint, I took the Saturday off from walking. I wanted to give myself a chance to wrap my mind around what's going on, before taxing my body with more walking. To answer some questions...

Val, my bp was taken after my lab work was done - lots of fun bloodwork. I am never too excited to being seeing the doctor so you have a point.

Beth, I didn't have any caffeine before the reading, because I was drinking water. (Not a coffee person) Once you mentioned it though, I realized I *have* been drinking a LOT more Dt Cokes than usual, and all with caffeine. I used to purchase Caffeine Free and have just gotten out of the habit. I will be switching back asap!

I will be monitoring my b/p from home. Can't get more relaxed than that. I will also call the primary doctor tomorrow. Promise!

Good Morning (okay - I know it is afternoon)!
Just reporting in to let everyone know I feel good! I mean GOOD! No headache. No bodyache. Not too shabby and a very nice and welcome change!

I did walk after my shot last night. I decided to read a book while walking on the treadmill (and holding on to the rail). I walked at a super slow pace, had an interesting book, not so good music on the radio station, a big water bottle, and a part of a CLIF bar. After an hour, my dh came downstairs and asked when I was going to be done. An hour!! I told you it was a good book. ;)

Maybe it was the longer distance and the slower speed. Maybe my body is adjusting (finally) to the Avonex. Maybe it was because the shot was on top of my thigh. Maybe it was because I slept until 10:30 this morning. ;) Whatever the reason I am taking it! My head is a little foggy so I will be taking the day easy.

Just wanted to share my good news! :hyper:

Hi Sharon!
Yes, a change in holiday plans for us. We were supposed to be going to Chicago for Thanksgiving, but because of my 'stuff', we are staying here for Tday. It looks like the family will becoming over here! So... 2 parents, 2 sisters (with 1 boyfriend), 1 brother, 1 SIL, and 3 kids, plus my 4 adds up to a pretty big crowd for a quickie dinner. My mom is bringing the bulk of the food - we are just changing locations. ;)

I finished that book so I need to find another one if I am going to get my miles in on the treadmill. It is such a boring way to walk! :tilt:

I just need to look up 2 more meds, and I'll PM you, but it probably won't be until Mon because of the boards being down. Have a fabulous Thanksgiving filled with laughter and love.

I don't know if you like mysteries, but a new James Patterson/Alex Cross book is out. I highly recommend the series.

Thanks for the Thanksgiving greetings, everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to all! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/mgpilgrim.gif

Guess what happened here today?? I know I know... for some this won't be a big deal... for my kids it was HUGE!

It snowed! ALLLL day! That wet slushy snow... the heavy stuff. We, of course, had to go out in it. ;) My ds shoveled the driveway (even though it is supposed to be in the 40s tomorrow), my dd cleared the deck so we can take the dog out. We also made a snowman, only to find out that it freaks out Scamp and now he won't 'go' out back! LOL! Dumb Dog. ;) He's lucky he is so cute. http://smiley2000.free.fr/gif/divers/div_076.gif

I am done cleaning house for tomorrow. Just have some laundry to finish folding and that just might wait until tomorrow morning! I also need to walk tomorrow! 4 miles - looks like I will need a REALLY good book for the treadmill, because I am not walking in the snow!

Beth, I will check for those books at the library. I love a good mystery. Have you read any of Janet Evanovich's books? That's what I just finished. Very funny! I love them! It isn't often that a book makes me laugh out loud, but the Stephanie Plum novels do. :teeth: Thanks again for checking those meds for me. I really do appreciate it!!!

My daughter is fighting a bug so she wouldn't have gone out even if there wasn't a trip. Rather than hear any crying from her about "how unfair it is" they all stayed in.
Glad to hear your kids had a fun day out in it. Your dog sounds cute!

Good Morning Everyone! oops.. Good afternoon! hee hee
Okay - so I have been up for only a little while but I am FEELING GREAT!!! :cool1: oh yeah! :cool1: Yep - last night was shot night. It went okay. I think we may have had a dull needle this time. Quite the prick on insertion but it was okay. We had company so I didn't get to walk right away -- only got 20 minutes in on the treadmill but today it feels like it must have been enough. Yeah!

Thanksgiving was nice. We had a full house with people coming and going. Thursday we had 14 people here. My kids really enjoyed sharing a holiday with family (and not having to be the ones driving somewhere!) and getting to hang out all day in one place. Friday we had friends in from TN - YEAH! It was so good to see them and get to visit and catch up on things. Saturday was decorating day. With some help, the Bomb (that's what my dh calls the Christmas tree he found at Kmart 2 years ago) is up and decorated. We are missing some things - like my cruise ornaments, the tree skirt - but they have to be here somewhere! Just have to find out which box they were mistakenly up in by the movers. Some other house decs are out, as well as the bathroom, so I am getting there. We don't have an electric source outside, so I am not sure what we are going to do out there. :sad2:

Today is a day of rest for me, so no walking. I do have to take the kids to the orthodontist however. I am hoping to get through the rest of the day without any more Naproxen. Wish me a headache free afternoon! :headache: :wizard: :D

LOL, Beth. I am sure I will have a headache once we get a bill. This orthodontist hasn't billed us once yet since we started with him! ACK! Let's hope it is because we are under new insurance and have coverage, not that he wants to hit us after the holidays. ;) Actually I was trying to show a headache, and then pixie dust making me happy. Not so good with the smilie message game.

My day finished up well. I didn't need any additional Naproxen (just 2) and even went to the grocery store after the orthodontist! That's big stuff for me, considering how I was feeling several weeks ago. ::yes:: The kids and I even went to Bath and Body Works after homework was finished, so I could grab some of their 5 for $10 soaps while they were still on sale. :jumping4:

Yesterday's rest was good. Today is 50 minutes of walk. I have put off the inevitable long enough. The rain isn't going to stop. I shall just count this walk as good practice for the marathon in case there is rain that day! Yeah... that's the ticket!

I did 2.4 miles in 50 minutes and was able to increase my pace as I went, which is good news. I had to hold on the whole time. I think if I could have let go and walk with a longer stride, I could have gone even faster!! :hyper:

Hi Terry,
I just finished your journal. Thanks for posting in mine. I give you credit for training for the half marathon, especially as the weather gets colder. I hate the cold, but I will persist. By the time spring comes, we will be used to our workouts and can enjoy them more.

I'm a nurse too, by the way, actually a nurse anesthetist, but, like Beth, I worked as a cardiac nurse for many years. Your poor legs. IM's are so painful there. Maybe a little walk after the shot would help the pain by moving the blood around and distributing the medication quicker.

If your B/P is elevated, you could get headaches too. Exercising too strenuously will raise your blood pressure, so I think your plan of easy walking for longer distances is better. As you get healthier and your aerobic capacity improves, so will your blood pressure and your cholesterol and lipid readings.

I can't remember his name, but there is that talk show guy who has MS and he swears by his exercise routine. I read his book and he is in great shape, but says there are days where he just has no interest in exercise, but forces himself to do it because it has helped him so much. Montel Williams, that's his name, my son came up with it just now.

Anyway, good luck with your training.

I only have a moment before taking my son to his first basketball practice but I wanted to report this part of my day.....

I was ROCKING today!! WOO HOO!! Today was my 8 mile walk. I tried a new trail - it was a bust because it was an actual *hiking* trail - with hills! STEEP hills! I didn't get very far before I decided to need to go back to my typical walking path of a 4 mile loop.

It was cool/cold and very windy at times, but.... I finished 8 miles in 2 hours and 14 minutes!!! That time includes my warm up, stopping at the van to get a new water bottle, blow my nose and grab some tissue, and picking up and putting my radio back together! Over half of the last mile was walking straight into a terrible wind (I was at 2 hrs 2 mins at 7.5 miles). I am SO excited!! Before that last .5 miles, I had a 16.26 mph pace! Including that last section, I maintained 16.75 mph pace!

Some things I noticed
.... I had a full Black Cherry Almond Clif bar 25 mins before starting (this will probably end up being my breakfast on THE DAY). Every 30-40 mins, I had another 1/2 bar. For the last 30 min push, I sucked down a Vanilla Bean GU. Not sure if GU gave me the kick I needed. I was feeling pretty tired but that wind was a huge factor. I will have to try GU again because it is easier to carry (smaller).
.... I was walking alone and having a radio made a HUGE difference! DUH on me for not bringing one before.
.... (this is terrible BUT it worked for me) PASSING people helps! LOL! This was a first for me. I am the one typically getting passed. Today I passed THREE people!! Granted they were all 15-20 years older than me.... I didn't want to catch to someone and then end up walking next to them in uncomfortable silence, so I would get close, pick my moment and GO FOR IT! I didn't want to pass them and have them pass me back, so I kept the speed on for a nice little distance and then resumed my usual pace. I see this being a huge tool for me on THE DAY. I will just pick a body and say, I am going to pass that person!

It's all coming together!! All of the hard training is paying off! (Can you tell I am a little excited? )

From a health standpoint, I had my annual ob-gyn visit and my blood pressure was 122/78! Oh yeah!! Now THAT'S more like it!!!! I am a happy camper right now!

I hope everyone is having a good day! I will try to get journals later this evening when we return from practice. Love Ya! Mean it!! :)

WTG! Terry,

I am so impressed with you today. That was an awesome walk, and you've figured out some strategies for the marathon. I am also really happy to see your BP is completely normal. I haven't forgotten you, but I need to look one of the meds up at work. I can't get the info from home on it. Th other meds are all fine. I am still leaning towards caffiene being the culprit for that abnormal reading.

Hello Hello!!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! I get a smile on my face from your wonderful words. :)

Jean! - Hi and welcome! Thanks for posting in my journal. :) It is so nice to have another nurse in the house. Let me just say right now... Thank you for all you do! If you ever have any suggestions on how to make IMs more comfortable on the leg, I am open! I really need someone to come and mark my 'bottom' so I can add that area into my rotation. The trainer nurse said she can't train us there but it is a good spot.

Beth, I think you are right and caffeine was the culprit. Yesterday she took my bp twice and got the same reading. I was very happy with those numbers. :) And believe me, today IS a day of rest. I do believe my muscles would be protesting quite loudly if I decided to exercise today! :earboy2:

Michelle, you had me laugh! I was getting on with my bad self! LOL! So funny that I am excited about passing people. Who cares that they are older! They were still moving targets. ;)

Tera, I don't think I would be trying to walk for more than 2 hours straight (unless I were at WDW :earboy2: ) if I weren't training for this marathon. I prefer the elliptical machine. I can go for miles and miles on those. I am definitely missing our gym in TN. It was a fitness center at DH's old job. AWESOME place! A full time trainer, lots of great equipment, beautiful set up and only $16 a month for spouses ($8 for him). What a deal! I would go after I dropped the kids off at school, so the place would be deserted. Who thought I would ever be missing a gym??

Today is a day of rest for me.

Jessie has her first basketball practice tonight. Jake and I will watch for a little while and then leave. It is hard watching practices without running them. It feels very strange to not be coaching, after coaching so much. Last night I had to bite my tongue during Jake's practice. The coach didn't run any ball handling drills - kind of a basic thing when you are starting basketball for the first time ever - but I managed to stay back. I am sure he has a plan. :bitelip: Can you see how much I am struggling with this? Ah, well, it was to be expected. We are the new people at the school.

Sometimes, being the new kid stinks - even when you are an adult. :earboy2:

Hi MeMe!
Sunday was a crosstraining day for me. I did the 3 mile WATP to get my scheduled 40 minutes done. We moved from Nashville, TN to St. Louis, MO in July. Still trying to adjust to some of the changes.
Yes, I was a basketball coach. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it! I was pretty darn good too. The kids had a blast, learned their essential skills, learned to 'think' on the court, had good records and still wanted to play. (Listen to me, patting myself on the back. ) I have received a couple of cards from old players. It is nice to know they miss me, but hard that I can't be there. Unfortunately the kids feel the same way. They are enjoying their new coaches, but I guess it's better when it is your mom. (They don't special treatment, but they do feel like they had the 'inside' scoop on new plays, etc.)
Okay, I know it is time to 'let go'. Just still having some difficulties with that.

What a crazy weekend!!!

Our madness started late Friday night, when we discovered that the humidifier (in the furnace?) was flooding the basement! ACK!! Water soaked carpet. Stains on the carpet from furniture and the refrigerator. Ugh Ugh Ugh. The entire basement was finished by a previous owner and it had the nicest carpet in the house! Saturday involved an entire day of dealing with the home buyers protection plan (their furnace guy turned on the humidifier), the service company, a water removal/restoration company, insurance company, claims adjuster, contractor, carpet company.... What a mess. Who knows how things are going to work out, but my treadmill is down there in that wet mess! (This is throwing my allergies for a REAL loop!)

Sunday was shot day and then I did the 3 mile WATP tape as my crosstraining since I couldn't go down to the basement. It is easier to WATP down on the carpeting! I was pretty stiff when I finished. I am doing okay today... bigger headache this time, but no body aches, and my fever is dropping. All in all, not too shabby for 1 pm! :)

Here's hoping for a dry week so I can do all of my training outside. I don't have anywhere else to go!

I just can't imagine what a pain that was to have your basement flood. I hope that you are able to get everything worked out and back to normal as soon as possible.

Well, I made it through most of the journals, but not my own. LOL!

Not a whole lot to report at my end. I have been spending my time dealing with all of the insurance stuff due to the basement. I hope we can get the stuff down there ripped out quickly because I am definitely wheezing and developing a cough. I've got to stay healthy! The holidays and the marathon are coming up!

Beth - thanks for checking those meds for me. I am glad to read that I am not taking something that could affect my blood pressure that way. Once I get back on my losing trend, I hope those BP numbers get even better. :cool1:

Happy Friday everyone!!

Ah, Monday, Monday. What a day.
Another injection day in the tubes, and another recovery half way done. I tried taking my 2nd naproxen at the 10 hour mark, versus waiting for the 12 hour mark and it seems to be helping. I guess if I stay in front of the med headache, I am better off.
I walked for an hour last night after my shot. WATPing upstairs, since dh has discovered a lot of black mold in the basement from the water. He has been cutting it out and removing it, but some was even in the insulation! No wonder my allergies have been off kilter! There is one more big slab of drywall to remove, and the area should be cleared. DH says he can tell a difference in the smell already so it was worse than we originally thought. Ugh.
I continue on with my marathon training. Today is a day of rest but this week holds my longest walk yet! I hope I can maintain a good pace for this long walk - it will be telling of my ability in January! Now, let's hope for some warmer temps. Not sure how I will walk in wind chill temps in the teens! Brrr brrr brrr....

Have you ever just wanted to SCREAM?!?!?! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/icon_angry.gif

That's how I am feeling today! What's the saying about the best laid plans.... http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/icon_banghead.gif Our furnace went out again. It started screaming (literally sounded like there was a cat caught in the vents last night starting @10 pm) and then the heat stopped. It was 53º in the house this morning. Even the dog was shivering.

We had to call the Home Buyers warranty plan people again. They said we had to wait until this morning. I called this morning. Insisted they NOT send back the crew that didn't fix it last time (and flooded the basement). Another deductible gone. I believe the furnace is fixed now. The guy was here over 2 hours - had to leave and get additional parts, etc etc... I just wished it had been fixed LAST time. Plus all of my plans for the day were ruined. Being the warmest day of this week (a whopping 43º) I needed to get my 10 mile walk in today! I didn't get in my walk, didn't get any shopping done and have a really tight chest and dry cough. Ugh. I am sure I will have to go into the doctor and get something to get my breathing back on track.

I am simply frustrated with life right now. Sorry for the vent! I know things could be worse - the furnace could STILL be broken!

We are off to basketball practice -- no time for journals right now. Hopefully later! STAY WARM, WISHERS!!! :grouphug:

And like a phoenix, I am trying to rise from the ashes.... ;)

Sharon, your guess was right. I have been sick. I was puffing on my albuterol every 3-5 hours, 2-4 puffs at a time, just trying to make it through the weekend without a visit to the ER. I guess between the moisture in the basement and then the lack of heat, my asthma couldn't take anymore.

I went to the doctor today - got a nice pile of rx's and some prednisone. Watch out marathon training! I can probably walk 20 miles now! Hahahah :teeth: Okay - so the dose isn't that high. ;)

Got my shot yesterday since I didn't have a fever. It was on the side - typically a horrible injection site, but the dart was completely pain free! Wow! :earseek: That was a first. Still some pain with the plunge - that can't be avoided - the medicine has to get in there. I walked for an hour afterwards - 30 minutes of walking and then the 2 mile WATP tape. Took my 2nd pain pill at 5:30am and I have been GREAT all day!!!! I am so happy!! No lingering headaches, no body aches! This is awesome!! It looks like the 60 minute workout might be another key.

Plans for this week - finish Christmas shopping, wrap presents, plan out Christmas menu because the party is over here again (I warned everyone that this trend will not be continuing - gotta spread the love and open those doors ;) ), get the cooktop installed, fold laundry... So basically the same ol' same ol'.

The weather is cold here but it is supposed to get even colder by Thursday so I hope to get my long walk in tomorrow (if the lungs are up to it). I would love to do it outside but I need to see if I can breathe this cold air that well.

Thanks for checking up on me, everyone! I hope to get around to the journals and get caught up soon! :grouphug:

This bit of Christmas humor was sent to me by a good friend. Enjoy the chuckle! I know I did. :teeth:

Subject: Christmas Eating Tips

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table
knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave
immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt
scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You
can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it
has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into
an eggnogaholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have
two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy.
Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed
potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car
with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your
eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other
people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's.
You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the
time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while
carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted
Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near
them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of
attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind,
you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if
you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have
three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory
celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or
get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.

Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Hello WISH friends!!

The fun of the Money Pit (that's our house) continues. I am sure, at some point or another, it will become impossible for another thing to break around here. Instead of spending yesterday finishing up Christmas items, I spent hours cleaning the house from the dust. Our cooktop (which has been down to 2 burners for 3 months) arrived yesterday. The countertop had to be cut for it to fit. Despite covering the openings and taping things shut, the dust managed to spread nice and thick throughout the kitchen, dining room, family room, pantry. I have lost count of the loads of dishes. Good thing we are using paper plates tomorrow. ;) hee hee

I am continuing with my prednisone. No wheezing! Very little coughing! YEAH!! :cool1: I am loving that!!! ::yes:: Especially after yesterday!!

Tomorrow we will have 17-18 people over for Christmas. A bigger crowd than Thanksgiving! I think I am ready. I delegated a lot more of the cooking this time, so that will help. Having more than 2 burners will REALLY help!

The temps are still too cold to go outside for training. The treadmill is still out for me. I am going to try and do some back to back WATP tapes - just to get the time in, so my muscles are used to working continuously. I really want that medal!

When I signed up for this marathon, it was just as something 'fun' to do. (HA!) As I have gotten into training, I realize that there is a lot more required to do something like this, than just 'go'. I have a much better appreciation for everyone who follows their exercise routine - whether training for an event or simply training for life. After this whirlwind year of moving and being diagnosed with MS, completing this marathon means more to me than I dreamed it would.

Soo..... let me close by saying THANK YOU to my WISH Journal friends! I really appreciate each and every one of you. Whether you are a regular poster or just occasional, the words of encouragement and support found here is awesome! DIS WISHERS are the BEST!!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US ALL!! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/papanoelaa.gif

Christmas was wonderful here... first time in 7 years we spent the actual day with family. Typically we are piling into the car the day after Christmas to drive 6-9 hours to get to our families. 20 people... lots of food... lots of fun... definitely a full house.

Sunday is my injection day and I have to walk for an hour afterwards, but I decided to 'go for it' and did 11 miles of WATP. I used the 4 mile Super Challenge - did that twice and then rewound and did the final 3 miles for the third time. I know it isn't the same as walking on the treadmill or outside but with my treadmill out of commission and the weather too cold for my prednisone (only 2 more days of that!), this was the best option I had. I finished 24 ounces of water, 12 ounces of Powerade and felt strong at the end, except for the leg lifts. (The leg that gets the shot is always weaker several hours following.)

Sunny: thank you for your support! I appreciate all of the support everyone has given me. Can I carry your name on a lime green Mickey head during the marathon? I didn't give Beth a choice -- she is coming along for the walk whether she wants to or not! hee hee All of the WISHers will be there with me - either in person or in spirit! Anyone else want to sweat with me? Just let me know!

The Money Pit? I made that "knock it down and start over" suggestion today, but DH wasn't buying it. Hmmm... I wonder why not? ;) He is on a Mold Mission and slowly the basement is being taken apart and put back together. As much as I hate having to do all of this, it is right to try and get as much done as we can before the new carpet goes in. Thank you State Farm for spurring this latest project. I am sure there will be more fun stories to come! We already found a dog's chew toy hammered to a stud behind some drywall, insulation and mold. Fun stuff!

Only 2 more weeks before the marathon, then I will be returning to my focus on my weight loss (gotta get that moving again!).

Happy Holidays to everyone as they wrap up 2004 and prepare for 2005! :grouphug:

LOL, Michelle! No promises there! My dd asked me.... how would I feel if I went to the marathon, walked and came home straight? I told her, if my body hadn't changed shape with all of the training walking, I didn't think it would happen in WDW! It's a magical place but not THAT magical! :earseek: (I really stress that I am doing this for HEALTH reasons, versus weight.) I think she is worried that I will look different when I return, but I assured her the same Mommy will be back. :)

Did my walking yesterday and lots of shopping with my sister. We bought the bulk of the things we need for the trip. I even found a sports bra to fit! :earseek: Tomorrow morning we are going to do a 'test' run. Getting up early, dressing, going to walk (definitely 10 miles for her, I am thinking 8 for me since I have done a long walk already) and then come back and see how our bodies recover. I had to do some tweaking of my outfit, since temps are higher than I anticipated. Gotta get that worked out before we go too!

Eating - focusing on good eating habits: fruits, veggies, good carbs and proteins. Nothing new, no big changes. Drinking lots of water and sipping my powerade, to keep my body hydrated, per the Penguin's instructions. ;) I think I might be ready!!

I went to Home Depot yesterday and got some more Mickey Heads! It looks like Beth, Tera, Sunny, and Michelle are coming for a ride. ::yes:: If anyone else needs a lift, just let me know!

Happy New Years!!!

Good evening WISHers!! Just enjoying a lazy day at home, which is a good thing after yesterday! My DSis and I walked 11 miles yesterday as a trial run. We woke up at 5 am, put on our walking gear, headed to the trails just to discover it was TOO dark to walk! LOL! Neither of us were comfortable walking through the woods without any light, so we waited for some light and did some stretches. Hey! It is just like the marathon is going to be!

When we could see a little, we took off and walked 10 miles in 167 minutes with an additional mile of cool down. I had a good walk, despite TOM joining me. We both have our outfits worked out. Food and water are under control. Fanny pack is ready. We are READY!! :jumping4:

Yesterday evening I was sore, but iced up and kept moving slowly. Today I stretched more and feel much better! I guess moving around MGM Sunday night is going to be slow, but moving around the airport will be fine! Rats. ;)

Erin,
There is no way I am leaving the WISH journals after this marathon! You ladies have been here with me during my training, and I would miss each of you so very much. I will be shifting my focus to weight loss and continued exercise (might incorporate yoga for my MS). ACK! We leave on Thursday!

I still haven't started packing BUT the Christmas decorations are coming down. Slowly but surely. It feels weird to start taking stuff down now - we always wait until the Epiphany - but I don't think I could handle coming back from the marathon to a house full of Christmas, so down it goes. The tree is empty - now it has to be disassembled and put back in the box. Does everyone take their tree apart? We always have, but my mom says I should just cover it, and put it in the basement. Wow - that would be easier! Never had a basement to do that with. Not sure how I feel about it either. Thoughts? Opinions??

I got my shot last night and WATP'd 4 miles with my sister. I feel hung over today so not terrible, but not great. TOM is here so I am not surprised. I have noticed I feel worse when it is TOM and shot time.

It has been a chore trying to get everything coordinated for leaving. Isn't it funny how my dh can leave and it requires no effort on his part, other than packing. I leave and I need to create calendars and spreadsheets with practice times, game times, phone numbers, etc... I guess men will never be as organized as women!

School starts tomorrow. It is going to be hard getting up early again! My body has been craving sleep and I have been listening to it. Unfortunately that means we have all been getting a late start each morning! I love to sleep.

Hi Terry - Sounds like you have a lot to do still. Take your time and remember to breath :earseek:

We use to always keep our tree up till Epiphany too (it's my birthday), but I find over the years, after New Years Eve, I am SO ready to get it down. I've actually thought of the "putting a bag over the tree", but its not that big of a deal to take it down and DH puts the box up in the attic (we also have a basement that holds all the decorations)

Well atleast your TOM is now and not in 5 days  I hope your all done with that when you get there so you can enjoy yourself :earboy2:

And NO, men will NEVER be as organized as women :cool1: My kids went back today and that alarm at 6:15am was a VERY rude awakening :earseek: :earseek: Good luck tomorrow

:cloud9: Ahh, sleep IS a good thing, isn't it? :earboy2: At least you didn't have to send the kids back yesterday. . .it was a rude awakening for DD when her alarm went off at 5:40, let me tell you!

I say that if you have room in the basement, put the tree away FULLY ASSEMBLED and just cover it with plastic. Bring it up next year, plop it in place, and let the decorating fun begin! As long as it's dry down there, you've got no worries. We always take ours apart--we just don't have the storage room.

Have a good day, Terry. Hope you're feeling better today. :D

I decided we are going for the Put the Tree Away Assembled plan and guess what? It won't fit down the stairs! LOL! Oh well. It was a thought and now I know it won't work.

I spent sometime this morning checking out Target clearance deals (holiday stuff is 75% off now) and found some items for Jessie's classroom store. Containers of Legos - 99 cents. Stuff by Hilary Duff nailpolish sets - $1.24. Small metal lunchboxes filled with sour gummies - 99 cents. I also found some fleece throw blankets for $1.99. I bought several cream ones. I use them in a basket for the teacher's Christmas present. Add some microwave popcorn, a movie box of candy and a Hollywood video gift card - done! Pretty nice gift for under $15!

I am trying NOT to take a nap today, so my body will be more prepared for travel and the marathon. Of course, I WILL be napping after that long walk! :earboy2: Just have to get back into the early to bed, early to rise routine. I better get back to list making/packing!

Isn't it amazing what we moms have to do in order to go away for a few days. Of course, my DH doesn't EVEN pack his own bag when going for a weekend with the guys!! I get the last laugh though - the other men all make fun of him for that! :rotfl:

Hi Terry,

I was going to warn you about the tree. My Mom had no problem getting her tree down the stairs, but broke the top of it bringing it up the next year.

You are going to do great this weekend. I'm sure that DH will be able to chauffer everyone without a problem. It is his problem this weekend.

If I don't get back here before you leave. Have a great time and good luck. I'll be :cheer2: :cheer2: for you.

for me to post about the marathon.... For those of you who haven't jumped over to the WISH boards, here is a copy and paste of my post...

Hello WISHers!
We returned Monday evening from our weekend at WDW but I haven't wanted to post until now. I guess I am still dealing with my feelings about the Half. I was one of the WISHers caught past the 10 mile mark.

I was surprised by how things were organized as well. I think the event could benefit from a staggered start from each corral, with a pause between each one being released, in order to help with congestion. It took us 17 minutes to get to the start line. Those 17 minutes cost us the opportunity to pass through Magic Kingdom, see the characters, get a finish line photo. I am still very sad and disappointed about this.

We were caught in the mess in Epcot where the poor gentleman suffered a heart attack. There were 3 medics working on him and the ambulance was rapidly approaching, but we later heard he didn't make it. (This has not been verified however!) The area this happened was in Epcot, after you leave World Showcase and head towards the road. There is the merge of the Half and the Full and then a tight area with a very small grassy median in the middle of the walkway. The man was in the grassy area.

I am a slower starter (but did the first mile too fast) but got to a 15 minute mile pace by the end of mile 4. We had a 13 min mile, an 18 min mile, then 15-16 min miles. I was cooking at 15 min miles as we hit mile 7 on.... Even that late into the race, we were weaving in and out of people moving ahead. We passed Karen (Karebear) before the 9 mile marker.

We hit the 10 mile marker at 8:50 am - add our 17 minutes of time from the beginning and we had 57 minutes to finish. We were at the very front of the people getting stopped. In fact, one lady bolted and just ran off. We should have followed instead of stopping to listen. We thought perhaps a train was coming. We were SURROUNDED by Team In Training people, Training to End Stroke people, as well as many others. There were a lot of coaches caught as well -- all believing we were on pace. (I still know I was!) We were told we could NOT continue because GUESTS were preparing to enter the park and there wasn't room for us.

After a lot of discussion by the coaches, they were going to send up back 3 miles so we could finish by retracing. Nope - they had already cleared those areas and there were quite a few Full marathoners. The coaches are still talking with the Disney people. A Training to End Stroke coach kept passing through the crowd, telling her people to keep moving because we WOULD be allowed to finish. Finally a 'big wig' guy arrives - says he is sorry for the mistake. We will be taken to the finish line and will get our medals. Water is distributed by the sheriffs present.

After a very unreasonable amount of time, 1 bus arrived (for 300+ people). Again, it was obvious that this was not a planned sweep spot. We had passed the buses at 10K and the 9 mile mark. As a group, we felt we weren't being credited for the time it took to cross the start line. I do not know what happened to those who went on the bus. The gates were reopened and we were told to walk to the monorail. Get to the monorail - they have no idea why ALL of these people are trying to get on the Express Monorail to the TTC. Finally we get to load. (Being at the front of the crowd at the gate and walking, DSis and I rode in the front with the driver.)

We arrive at the TTC and are told just to walk to the Finish area. Get to the Finish area and are told we are not allowed in the Finish area!! Go to Information - told they don't have the medals - why are you here? Finally we are allowed to walk to the Finish area where the food/drinks are. We received our medals, chips are removed. We have to run to catch the buses with our belongings from this morning. As we are heading back towards the buses to take us to Epcot to the resorts, one of the volunteers tells us we better hurry or the bus will just leave us there. Okay - that comment had me steaming! Like we hadn't been "hurrying" all morning!

Once on the bus, one of the fellow half participants (it was her 3rd Disney marathon - she claimed she will never set foot on Disney property again after this, and is a Florida resident) noted that according to her monitor we had walked 16+ miles. It was after 11 am.

Again, it has taken me a while to be able to post about this because I am SO disappointed. I *did* train long and hard for this event. Even though I was on pace, I was not allowed to finish. My medal feels tainted and I don't have a whole lot of pride in wearing/displaying it. I am sad. I doubt I will ever be back for the marathon.

On the other hand, we had a great weekend at WDW! I got to meet several WISHers, which was great! Tower of Terror still rocks! Magic Kingdom is still a magical place. Pop Century was much better than I expected!

Well, that's my story....

So, as you can see, the marathon wasn't quite what I had hoped for. I am discouraged and disappointed in how things were handled. A refund of $$ won't help. A medal doesn't help. I wanted to cross that finish line to prove I could do it!

The heat and humidity were very hard on me. I know that didn't help things, but my sister and I were doing a good job of watching our watches and making sure we were on pace, once we crossed the start line. My biggest tip to ANYONE thinking of going to the WDW marathon. PUT THE EARLIEST Finish time you can without having to prove it. That would move you up in the corral assignments - getting you closer to the start line. Those minutes would have made the difference between us entering MK and finishing, and getting stopped. We both put the last time because we felt it was the most accurate and fairest. We should have gone with fastest time available and too bad for the people behind us.

Obviously I still have some resentment to work through! :teeth: :charac2:

Life continues as normal now. Monday night we arrived back in STL to some REALLLLLLY cold temps. I had to get my shot on Monday night and it was easily the worst injection ever. I don't think those overworked muscles were too happy something entering the area. I did walk for 30 minutes afterways to help with the side effects. I feel great now, except for some soreness in my hip. Not quite sure what I did, but I have been icing the area.

I am giving myself this week to figure out a plan for the year. I have a followup visit with my MS doctor on Friday, then Monday I will start back to exercising and start my way of eating plan.

 , and more  Terry! I guess because it is Disney, I just don't expect to read about this kind of stuff. They are supposed to be at the forefront of Customer Service. IMHO, this leaves a very big black stain. Shame on all of them. And if you don't send this report to Guest Relations, I hope someone else does. They should hang their heads in shame.

Terry, I am SO very proud of you. You overcame a lot to accomplish your goal, and I think you did accomplish it!! :jumping4: I can understand why you feel your medal is tainted, but you earned it sweetie!!! :cheer2: Be proud of yourself and ashamed of whoever made this crazy decision to not let so many finish. I do think Disney owes a bunch of you a sincere apology.

Terry,
I have tears on my cheeks for you and the others caught in that confusion. I am so angry they did that to you. You really should send a letter. You could just cut and paste your post as it is. They really should know how much they wronged you and 300 other people. I know a refund would not erase the bad, but geesh, they really should try to make it up to you all.

Actually, your post is very nice. If it was me, I think my post would be banned from the board :earseek:

Thanks Sharon and Sunny for your support! I have to post a picture of the 'string' of Lime Green Mickey heads I wore in my ponytail. My DSis took a picture the night before. I wrote everyone's name on a Mickey head and then tied it into my hair so everyone rode with me! :) It was too hot to carry you all in my fanny pack -- you guys would have DIED from the heat and humidity!! :teeth:

I may draft a letter of complaint. I just don't think it will help anything. This is the first time this happened. The course is being changed for next year (haven't heard what the exact route will be). I think Disney thinks they 'fixed' everything by giving us official medals. I have been lurking on the Runners World forum and those people don't care about medals, certificates or anything, except their time! I guess I am just accepting that this marathon isn't staged for people like me -- trying to get fit, training for a goal, WANTING a picture with the characters or in front of the castle, and getting that Donald medal -- but for long distance athletes who are competing with their previous time, or trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon or something like that. I guess I am thinking that my expections may have been too high. Who knows... Basically I guess it is really a race that just happens to be held in WDW and not a WDW race. Does that make sense?

It's going to be hard to talk about the new puppy if I keep getting filtered. ;) He is a real cutie. BO weighs in at 4 pounds, is completely black except for a tiny white beard under his mouth. Very cute. Imagine a sh*tzu with pug eyes and that's what he looks like. I took a picture and will post it when I get it back.

Boy - settling back into routine is hard. I feel like I am getting pulled one hundred ways and no one is giving up. The basement is a bigger disaster than it was before I left for the marathon. The bathroom has been gutted (Dh decided this?), there is a lot of debris scattered throughout, and lots of drywall that needs to be repaired. I think, reasonally, it will be a couple of weeks before we can even start painting.

This 'short' week feels like it is going to be a crazy one. We have DH's BIL coming in from out of state for a combo visit/business trip, Scout meeting, tutoring, 2 basketball practices, 3 basketball games, etc, etc,. DS won the Pine Derby races last Thursday so now he has to go on to the District race! He was SO happy to finally have a winning car. I hope he isn't too disappointed at Districts.

I have decided to go back to WW Flex points, until I can spend some time going over South Beach. It wouldn't be fair to me or the program to start it half-heartedly, so I will go back to what I know can work until I am ready to try something else. I need to fit in some exercise today since Monday was my 'off' day.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

My neighbors have two sons that are also into that whole thing and I believe they have races this coming weekend.

Good decision on holding off on the South Beach until you get all the information. Maybe the flex is what you need to through things around a bit.

Have a great day!!

Hi Terry,

The puppy sounds very cute. As for the filter, well I got filtered for posting a recipe with ****ake mushrooms. And I will again.

I'm so glad the doctor's appointment went well. It is always a relief to hear that things are ok.

Don't worry about delaying the beach. It will still be there. Good luck with the renovations and your schedule.

Take care,
Beth

Terry, that's so cool that your son won his race!

The basement sounds like a real project! Good luck with it! :faint:

I think it's a good decision to do what you're comfortable with until you can get more info on SB or anything else you might like to try. ::yes::

The puppy sounds absolutely adorable, I can't wait to see the picture! Maybe you can feed the ****zu some ****ake mushrooms! :earboy2:

Sounds like your week will be a busy one, I hope it's not too crazy!

Don't forget to watch BL tonight! :jumping4:

Terry just do one thing at a time and I'm sure you will tackle the mountain of stuff ahead of you. I agree with your decision to stay with Flex until you have the time to dedicate learning the SB plan and to form a plan of action for it. Otherwise you may become frustrated with it altogehter.

Have a great day today!

Hi Terry,
It was so great getting to meet you (ever so briefly) at Trails End!

I think the decision on waiting to start a new program until you have the time to really jump in with both feet is good. I know I dont' do well when I try to do something like that before I'm ready.

Hi, Terry. I'm just getting caught up on your journal and just now read your post re: the Half. :guilty: I'm so sad. I have to tell you, though, Terry--you're one classy lady. I don't know how things went that day, but here in your journal you've presented this whole thing with a great deal of grace and integrity. I'm sure you were so, so disappointed and angry--I know I would be--yet you're holding your head high. You trained for it, you walked it (and miles more). Terry, you're a winner, hands down.

Happy to hear about your puppy--a cutie, right? Enjoy! Have a good weekend. Oh, and just my 2 cents. . .I'm doing a weird kind of combo--trying to incorporate a lot of SBeach while counting those points to help with portion control. Hey, it works for me, maybe someday it'll work for you? Regardless, you'll find your way when it's the right time.

Yikes! It's 11 a.m. I've got to hit the hay before DH is up at 5 a.m.

Hugs,
Erin

Hello everyone! Thanks for checking up on me! I haven't gone AWOL or anything... just really really really tired. If I am not chauffering someone somewhere, or doing some specific task, I seem to be napping. Every time I have sat down at the computer, I get too drowsy to read the DIS so off to the couch I go for some dream time. http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/sleep.gif My body is trying to tell me something, so I am sneaking in those naps when I can.

With all of the sleep, I feel like I am floundering in the WW area. I haven't started journaling my points or pushing the water like I did during the training. I guess I am just pampering myself this week, just not sure I need it.

I am going to take this weekend to get my ducks in a row, take my measurements :scared: so I can get back into WW mode and get to the business of SHRINKING this body!! ::nod::

PS: The puppy is fine! It is so fun to watch him (BO) play with our 3 yr old Westie, Scamp. Scamp has a ton of energy and loves running and chasing BO. I promise to post a picture as soon as I get them back from Target - which should be Tuesday afternoon.

Hope you get to feeling better. I too have been extremely tired and can't quite figure it out. Must be the body adjusting to all this good stuff!!

Just wanted to say  and thanks for all your :cheer2: :cheer2:

You are a great encouragement to me!!

Hello WISHers!
I should really start posting in my journal before I trying to hit all of the journals because I keep running out of time to get all of my posting done!

My week hasn't gotten off as I had hoped. My ds started not feeling well on Saturday night, was up thru-out the night getting sick (poor thing), started with a fever on Sunday and was still running a temp of 100.2 Sunday evening so no school for him today. He was SO disappointed he had to miss his basketball game. He even begged to go and just sit on the bench but I couldn't knowingly allow him to expose everyone to his germs. :/

DD started not feeling well on Sunday. She hasn't had to the stomach virus portion but feels and sounds awful so SHE was home today as well! It is close to their bedtime and I think Jessie is fine to return to school tomorrow - she just has a lot of congestion to battle. Jake still doesn't have his appetite back, so I am not sure about him. We will see how he does overnight, but his temp hasn't broken 100 since last night. 99.8, but not over 100. ;)

I got my injection last night as scheduled and then did my walking. DH did a good job, but I had a lot of burning in my leg while walking. It lasted for the entire hour.

Anyway, the day was spent taking care of the kids, so no Me time today. It is a scheduled day of rest so not getting the workout time wasn't a problem. I just followed my WW from habit but didn't get measurements or weighed or the journal started. I think a food journal really helps me because I can look back at the weeks that work, and the ones that don't. I will be using fitday.com as well, since it is such a great tool!

Well, off to try and catch up on journals! Hopefully I can get to everyone tonight! Thanks to everyone who has visited!! :love2:

Hi Terry,

I'm so sorry to hear your kids are sick. Its so hard on a Mom to watch her kids suffer, plus no "Me" time is really tough, too. I hope you don't catch it next!

I'm having trouble keeping up wtih the journals and posting my own, too! Its great fun, but time consuming. I always worry that I missed some one, too.

Take good care of your family and hopefully some "Me" time will be available soon.

It's funny how much time it can take to try and get to everyone's journal, isn't it, Sundie? I try to get to everyone, but if someone else posts, while I post, then my list gets out of order and I can easily miss someone! Plus, we are getting a LOT more traffic on the Journal boards these days! ::yes::

My DS' appetite still isn't back to normal but he doesn't have a tempurature and says he feels fine. He was anxious to get back to school because his turn to celebrate his Half Birthday is upcoming. That and the thought of all of the extra homework that comes home from just 1 missed day was motivation for him. :earseek:

DD says she still doesn't feel good. She is definitely congested, but no fear and no tummy issues. She is just tired. I am not sure if it is the pre-teen-ness making her tired, or if she is still trying to fight something off. She is typically up and going as soon as her alarm goes off. She was in bed before 9 pm but took a mini-nap in the car on the way to school this morning. I am keeping the phone close by, just in case the school nurse calls.

DH is gone until Thursday night - traveling for work. He has to go to Minneapolis to the corporate headquarters for some meetings. I don't envy him the COLD temps! Since it is just the kids and I, I can make sure they get to bed on time or early, so they are recharged and healthy for our trip to Nashville this weekend. :)

Off to get more water and see if I can hit a couple more journals before the after school chaos begins! Besides, Michelle might have another Nakies story! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/naughty.gif
